When I was little there was a line of teeny tiny 4 inch fashion dolls called Glamour Gals that were popular for a couple years in the early 80s. I was obsessed with these dolls made by Kenner and their competition from Mattel called Dazzle Dolls (the Dazzle Dolls were a bit of a cheat, as they used the super pretty and popular Superstar Barbie and Steffie face molds and were effectively just tiny Barbies).

Anyway, this past weekend I found a treasure trove of early 80s tiny doll goodness and have been playing with them nonstop every since.

First are these two Glamour Gals showcase cases, one full of Glamour Gals in full on 80s fashions and the other with Dazzle Dolls also showing off their 80s style:

Also came with the Glamour Gals Party Place, which I wanted desperately as a kid but my parents never bought it for me:

It had the awesome living room with fireplace, a patio with pool, lounge chairs, and grill, and a rad 80s styled bedroom:

On the subject of gendered toys, I am reminded of Janine Melnitz.

This is the first action figure for Janine in the Real Ghostbusters line. They clearly didn't know what to do with this. Ghostbusters is for boys, right? But Janine is a woman! Does that make it a girls' toy? Because boys don't play with toys of women, so it must be a girls' toy, so it must be pink, and, um, what do girls like? Hair? Brushing hair? Got it! So the gun will be a hairbrush! Phew!

The thing is, as a little boy I had loads of RGB toys, and I loved this toy. I particularly loved the little purple ghost with the pink hair. You could comb its hair, or wrap other figures up in its hair like a tentacle, or ruin it by getting a sweet stuck in it so you had to give it an impromptu haircut.

But I look at it now, and I can see the desperate confusion on the faces of the boardmembers at Kenner while they tried to work out how to navigate this impossible gender quandary.

Jurassic June Day 5 - Velociraptor (JP1) ____

Heres the dinosaur for day 5 of jurassic june, the Velociraptor from JP1! If you saw my prompt list you might be confused cus the indoraptor was day 5s prompt, but i decided to change it at the last minute to the JP1 raptor instead. This raptor wasn't in my prompt list and i thought it'd be a crime to not draw it, so yeah i added it in.

But theres a slight twist with this one, I added the Kenner electronic velociraptor in the background! look i've been wanting to include more references to the 90s JP kenner toys, and what better way to do that than add another raptor thats colored like one of the toys?

I'm only doing this for dinosaurs that appeared in groups during the JP1 film, aint no way I was gonna do this for every single JP 1 dinosaur cus that would take too long lol

Quick Shot

A very quick one today. Busy season is still upon us, unfortunately.

And we're also in the middle of an algorithm slump over on Insta - with our posts getting recommended less than usual, and engagement down as a result.

So what better way to combat that than posting something that traditionally doesn't do great!

But I don't care. I love these little figures. And the bootleg-inspired colorways on these Universal Monsters are right in my wheelhouse.

These toys scratch a similar itch to mass-retail Sofubi for me - simplified designs, creatively designed, and fun colors - the purest example of what makes a toy.

Full disclosure- I hate the way these pictures came out. This was from the last shoot I did before I bought the new lights I showed off back on [May 26th] - The lighting in my apartment gives my shots this awful green and yellow tint.

Usually I can combat this with creative lighting angles and post-processing. But this one wouldn't budge. And all the digital editing on the world couldn't save it.

But now that's a thing of the past. Two multi-colored fill in lights have made this prices so much better. I can't wait to show those new shots!
