New "Lucky Child" Content!
While I haven't written anything in the LC-verse recently, my friend saxophoneliz just published a short story about Kurama and Kei!
For those of you hankering for new "Keirama" goodness during my hiatus, I can't recommend this one-shot enough. It's incredibly sweet, showcasing the lovely emotional intimacy between NQKeiko and Kurama against the backdrop of a dance meetup.

hi hi!
what's the most random ship that you know of in lc? the most popular seems to be keirama, ive seen a fair share if jin x kei shippers (dont blame em) some (either) kuwabara sibling x kei as well as minato x kei
.... hmm. Lemme ruminate.
Keirama is ABSOLUTELY the most popular. Keijin is def up there as well. If Jin were around more, I'm sure he'd be ranked higher, but a lot of people liked the Keijin ship and I was super happy he endeared himself to readers in so short a time.
Keiwabara seems rarer, but it has its diehard shippers, and I love them for that. Same with Keizuru. All of these ships would have to happen after the end of LC though due to age gaps and whatnot, but I still like them!
The Keinato ship took me by surprise when people first started mentioning it, but that ship has grown on me a TON over the years. But it's a loooooong way off from being possible.
I think the weirdest ship (to me) is Kiei (Hiei x Kei) or Keisuke (Yusuke x Keiko). Not because those ships aren't valid, because all ships are valid, but because I have Hiei and Yusuke so firmly locked into a brother-ish mindset in my head. Basically any time someone says they ship Hiei x Keiko in particular, I think, "Wow, but he thinks of her like a mom! Really??" I honestly LOVE hearing about that ship, though, because it shows how differently people can interpret a story, and I think that's super cool.
A rarepair for the story I kind of appreciate is Keito (Kei x Kaito). Occasionally people mention that one, and I alway smile when they do. Same with Keikina (Kei x Yukina). Keiko has such a crush on her, and if Yukina were around more, it'd be a hard one to ignore.
SUPER rarepair is Kei x The Beautiful Suzuka... they flirted for like two seconds (mostly from his side) and their battle of wits over breakfast was fun. IDK if anyone ever said they shipped this, but it's my secret favorite rarepair LOL.
As for the most random? I think someone once said they could see an enemy-to-lovers thing happen between Keiko and HIRUKO, which made me laugh (but I love that trope, so I didn't hate the idea as much as you might think). They might've been joking, though.
Ships Not One Has Suggested But I HATE the Thought Of: Keienma (Kei x Koenma.... JUST NO), Keigome (Kei x NQKagome.... SHE NEEDS A BESTIE).
IDK if anyone has mentioned others but that's what comes to mind, haha

i think i might be the only person who wants kei to not end up with anyone purely because i love kei and tom 😭😭
any time kei mentions tom or thinks of him, my heart just 💔 it's so sad pls
keirama is so cute but keitom (??🤣) wins my heart completely :')
D'awwww, that's very nice to hear!
You'll get to see more of Tom in the next arc, for what it's worth. Kei has a lot to think about in terms of love and relationships, and it's all more complicated that anyone (least of all Kei) quite realizes yet.
I'm hoping the ending I have planned will make everyone happy in their own ways, though. Can't wait to share it with you. <3

😅 What's a story or scene you've created that you're a smidge embarrassed exists?
Entire stories I wrote waaaay back (especially ones from when I was a teen) fall into this category!
I get embarrassed thinking of every single Keirama scene in Lucky Child, to be honest. I don't think I'm embarrassed of the writing of anything I've done recently, but any and all of the romantic scenes in LC feel incredible self-indulgent, so that's probably the biggest thing I'm embarrassed by!
(The one with Youko during the Dark Tournament is the worst offender here, HAHAHAHA)

“Keirama Xmas” Status: 19k Words & Counting
Well I’m glad I decided to split the Keirama Christmas story into three parts, because Part 02 is 10,000 words long, bringing the story’s total word count up to 19k. And Part 03 isn’t even CLOSE to done yet. 😬
But I think you Keirama degenerates (said with all affection) are going to enjoy what lies in store in this one, because DAMN do I need a trip to the dentist after writing that sugar-sweet shipping. DAMN!

A VERY Long One-Shot or a Three-Part Story?
Next week I’ll be releasing both Lucky Child chapter 118 and the Keirama Christmas story I mentioned in my last update.
I completed LC 118 earlier today, and I have completely outlined + written all the dialogue for the Keirama Christmas story.
But, uh... the combined outline + dialogue for the Christmas fic is already at 9,500+ words.
Long story short (irony)... this fic is going to be MASSIVE once it’s complete.
So here’s what I’m wondering. Would y’all rather read ONE MASSIVE ONE-SHOT on Christmas Eve, or would it be better if I broke this up into three smaller (but still pretty meaty) chunks?
If the latter, I’d probably release one on December 23, one on Christmas Eve, and the final on Christmas Day just to space them out a little.
I didn’t think this would be quite so long (story of my life) so my initial plan of releasing it all on one day might be a bit... overwhelming. Smaller, spaced out chunks could be easier to read.
Anyway. All thoughts appreciated, if you’ve got ‘em. And happy holidays!

Asking for the Keirama fans... what colors were the flowers Kurama brought in chapter 117?? I remember flower meanings were significant in previous chapters. By the way, excellent recent chapter!! Can’t wait to see how Keiko’s powers continue to develop!

TIME FOR ME TO GIVE BE ANNOYINGLY EVASIVE HAHAHAHAHA—
Ahem.
First of all, here’s where the flowers are mentioned in chapter 117:
So canonically, I left the colors ambiguous. This was intentional because right now, NQK is confused by Kurama. He’s acting strangely and she has no idea why. The flowers are 100% intended to be a clue as to Kurama’s hidden emotions, but I didn’t want the specific meanings to be completely obvious at first glance. Kei is confused, therefore the reader is, too.
Yes, I perhaps put WAY TOO MUCH THOUGHT into the flowers here... but that’s just who I am, I guess. XD
I don’t want to name what colors those flowers are just yet. Buuuuuut here’s the thought process that went into the selection of those flowers.
I first consulted a hanakotoba list or two and chose flowers that possessed meanings relevant to the scene. (Hanakotoba, of course, is the language of flowers specific to Japan.) Based on these lists, I picked irises, carnations and chrysanthemums.
Then I looked a general “language of flowers” list that wasn’t limited to hanakotoba/Japan. This list had more options/colors that provided additional nuance to consider (which I did, heavily).
Looking through those lists will give you a window into my considerations when choosing those flowers. Some of the meanings might be contradictory until you learn the specific colors of that bouquet! Other meanings might be kind of vague. But the confusion you experience echoes the confusion NQK experiences, so how’s that for art imitating life? XD
I’ll reblog this in a few weeks with the exact colors, once her questions about Kurama are resolved.
I WILL, however, tell you that the carnations’ general meaning (the one that isn’t color dependent) is relevant, and that the carnations are striped. The iris’ general meaning is more important than their specific color, and the color of the chrysanthemums is meant to be ironic in light of Kei’s (and also Kurama’s) emotions.

Oh shit headcanon, the reason Shiori started dating kuwabara senior is cuz her old bf kept canceling dates on her a prime example is the Christmas date he cancel before kurama " suggest" he come . Shiori realised the other guy just isn't her type and now she with another dude -that I am 100% on board that ship- who clearly makes her happy.
I WAS HOPING SOMEONE WOULD MAKE THAT CONNECTION!
And yes, that’s pretty much exactly the thought process that went into Hatanaka’s behavior when I was writing “Keirama Christmas.” Since LC is from NQK’s strict POV, I never really got the chance to show how Hatanaka fell out of Shiori’s good graces. This fic presented a really perfect opportunity to explore just that, especially once I nailed down its place in the LC timeline.
I hinted that things weren’t going well with Hatanaka in LC during the New Year’s Eve chapters, which fall just a week after the Keirama Christmas fic. I kept it brief, but...
Basically Hatanaka cancelled on her again at the last minute, and twice in so short a time just kind of sucks (especially since Hatanaka is the first person she’s dated since Kurama’s father died). And then she met the very chivalrous Kuwabara Sr. and saw what a great guy he was, and the rest is history.
Kurama actually has himself to blame a little bit for Shiori dumping Hatanaka, btw. He’s the one who tells her “You deserve to be treated well” when Hatanaka cancels in the Christmas fic, so when Hatanaka cancels again on New Year’s Eve, Shiori remembers that and says “Enough is enough! My son was right and you’re not treating me as well as I deserve.”
Anyway, I’m so happy someone put all of that together. XD Thank you for your eagle eyes and for writing our your thoughts here! You da best.

Team Filthy Keirama Degenerate right here 😂 thank you so much for this! I am left with warm and fuzziness love fluff. 💕 I had no idea what kind of Christmas themed plot it would be, but it was full of emotion from beginning to end! Truly an art!
I’m so glad you liked it, truly. Like, I started off wanting to write just pure fluff, but... I think to appreciate fluff, you need a little bit of contrasting material? Like in cooking, you need salt to bring out other flavors, some bitter to make the sweet taste all the sweeter. In the end I kept seeing opportunities to explore Kurama better as a person and to contextualize Shiori’s dumping of Hatanaka, not to mention Kurama’s father’s influence, and I couldn’t resist. Thank you for being on board and open to all of these additional details aside from the general concept of Christmastime Keirama!!! This was truly a pleasure to write and I’m so thankful I got this chance to bring it to life. <3

I love that keirama is possibly the most popular ship in LC and yet we've all come together tonight to dunk on Kurama's boyfriend qualities anyway. The duality of the human spirit.
I just CACKLED, anon.
Now that you know my true feelings for this bishi, do we still ship us? 😂 To be fair, I have never hidden that Kurama is my least fav of the main four YYH guys... the chemistry was a shock, I swear! Especially since I apparently think of him as a yandere... O_O

Dude when Kurama fit his finger over Kei's fingerprint in the planter, I found it so .....sexy?? I guess? In that understated but still swooning Jane Austen kinda way. I know you had to write some of this fic peeking thru your fingers because I def had to read it that way! Incredible work as always! Merry Christmas!!
I was actually pretty proud of that bit, so I’m happy it’s standing out to people! And yes, I did write that bit from between my fingers; how’d you know?? XD
Random bit of reflection: Sometimes I feel like my writing is a bit too heavy on the internal monologue, and that bit of writing was me trying to get across how he was feeling without him literally spelling out “I think of Kei like X” for the audience. When I edit my original stuff, I tend to strip out a lot of the internal monologue that’s so characteristic to my fics, replacing it with smaller bits of description. I need to do it more, but it takes time in editing I don’t really have when updating week to week.
ANYWAY. I’m proud of that bit and I’m happy it stood out enough to merit an ask about it. XD Thank you so much for the kind words and have a great Christmas!
