She went by many unkind names, but responded to Clarice.
Her voice would lure men into the watery abyss, which was just fine by her - she didn’t quite see the appeal in them otherwise. It was a way to pass the time, to toy with them a bit, though she could never bring herself to really doom them. She was just curious. There was a lot about their world that she would never know, confined to the sea as she was with her finned tail instead of human legs.
Until one day, she began singing to a man on a boat that was pushing off near the shore. Her voice didn’t affect him like it was supposed to. He didn’t melt at the sight of her, nor follow her into the water, though she was sure she had his full attention. He looked her over and then, grimacing, drawled: “Mind keepin’ it down?”
Clarice snorted at that unexpected reaction. What then? His attraction lay elsewhere?
On that, at least, the siren could relate.
His name was Jason and Clarice was intrigued. He kept coming back and didn’t seem to mind her so long as she didn’t bother singing. For his part, he didn’t try to hunt her, didn’t bring a whole mob to chase her from the bay - just stayed focused on fishing, it seemed. She waited for him atop a large rock, and before he called it a night, would try to get him talking.
One day, he brought another man on the boat with him, but Clarice left the guest alone. Needless to say, her curiosity was stoked even further.
“Now you hafta do something for me,” she told him the next day, smirking all the while. Sparing the friend couldn’t just come for free, after all.
Jason adjusted his cap and wiped sweat from his brow, asking what she wanted.
“Bring me something from your world, hotshot. Something I haven’t seen before.”
And the small, rectangular thing he tossed her crinkled in her hand, silver reflecting sunlight. Her long nails made short work of the wrappings and soon the siren was enjoying her first piece of a thing called bubblegum.
“What’s this good for?”
“You chew it. Can blow bubbles.”
It tasted sweet - strange to Clarice. “Food?”
“Wouldn’t swallow it if I were you.” He cocked his head at her, assessing, deciding to take out his own stick from the pack. “Happy?”
“Maybe,” Clarice answered as she chewed with some difficulty, though the gum eventually became softer than the rectangle it had started as. “So who were you with?”
“A friend.”
“Mhmm.”
She rolled her eyes as he grinned and blew a small pink bubble, different from the ones she usually saw in the sea. She demanded a lesson and Jason did his best to explain, grinning and giving her shit when she didn’t quite get it right away. Even as the flavor faded and her jaw began to feel sore, she confidently gave it her best go, tail flopping delightedly at the first signs of success.
“How about I try it with two?” She pushed, imagining the bubble that would make as she held out her hand expectantly. Jason clicked his tongue.
“Listen, I’ll already be hearin’ an ear full from Rach when she finds out I nicked it from her purse...”
Rach? “Who’s she?” Clarice did her best to sound bored. “Another friend?”
“Different kind. But yeah.” Jason leaned his chin on his crossed arms, giving a lopsided smirk. They had spent enough time with one another that he could see right through it. Too much time maybe, Clarice thought, though it was her own fault.
“You wanna meet her?”

Hannah Washington x Jessica Riley
1. You're telling me MIKE wrote that letter? Nah, it was Jess 100%. The whole time, through the whole game, it's just her pushing her feelings down, down, down, focusing on a hot boy to try and forget about the buff nerdy girl she hurt so badly a year ago. Even the prank can be seen as a way to deal with her feelings, pretending to fill the role of a helpful friend to Emily and making Hannah hurt to hopefully forget how she feels. She didn't think it would backfire so badly. Beyond the prologue... Man. Hannah being so fixated on Jess specifically, making her so hard to save, not because Jess orchestrated the prank, but because Jess broke her heart. In a "prank didn't happen" AU though these two would be kinda goofy and cringey and so lovesick. Trust me.

We all make fun of Jason's height in reference to everyone else, but he's the same height as Salim. When Salim calls him small, he means his overall physique, because Jason has the slightest build out of all the men.
Jason's built more like a runner, while everyone around him looks like they spend hours on the weights everyday. There's a reason Merwin told him he could teach Jason a thing or two on the bench.
Do with this information what you will, for I have already won.
