Black women STEAM characters on the big screen owe a lot to a heavily diminished and disrespected canon character in the BLADE MCU--Dr. Karen Jenson.

“ Blade debuted in theaters in 1998, becoming the first Marvel Studios film and kicking off what would become the juggernaut Marvel Cinematic Universe. At that time, superhero movies were rare. Daniel Ricciardo's Business Ventures- Primer?

I realized there's a lot of us who don't know all of Daniel's little business ventures that he's quietly been working on. So I've put this together- I too wanted to know if there was anything I had forgotten about. (I'm not sure if someone has done this before? I haven't seen it come across my dash.) Also good for fic purposes- I liberally used Blue Coast and DR3 Wines in one of my last stories

Blue Coast Brewing Co.

Started in 2017, its a brewery owned by Daniel Ricciardo, Jenson Button, Natalie Pinkham, Karen Minier Couthard, Tiffany Cromwell, Eugene Laverty, Thor Hushovd, Andreas Mikkelson, and Noah Wyle. They call themselves the Original Bluecoasters.

Their brews have won awards.

Ricciardo Kart

Started in 2015. They provide karts for 6 different categories.

Which goes hand in hand with the Daniel Ricciardo Series or DRS that kicked off in 2019.

The series runs for 8 weekends around the UK throughout the summer and they crown a champion at the end of the series.

DR3 Wines x St Hugo

I was surprised to find out that the first DR3xSt Hugo blend was from 2014. He'd said in an interview that he didn't want to just put his name on something- he wanted to be a part of the whole process.

Goods Way and Lafayette

Goods Way is a bar/speakeasy owned by Ben Lovett from Mumford & Sons and Lafayette is the live music venue attached to the bar. Lafayette is owned by both Daniel and Ben

Daniel has also spoken about being an executive producer on a potential 'Entourage' style F1 Hulu series. There was also talks about him acting- which I'm sure has since been tabled since he's back on the grid.

Outside of his ventures, he has a fair bit of personal sponsors; OKX, Optus, SeaDoo, GoPro, Beats by Dre, EA Sports and Thorne.

Our little Money Badger is doing well for himself

I'm sure this list isn't exhaustive because he seems to like to have his little bitten cuticle fingers (adorably affectionate) in a bunch of things. So I'll update as more ventures get released I guess

What if! Single Momma Seb with multi pups. Like taking care of twin little toddlers Charles and Maxy, and baby Mick while pregnant with little Lando! Seb being busy trying to open a snack for little Charles and Maxy to share at the park. But they get grumpy and are whining and little Mick is swaddled against his chest squeaking. (Happy squeaks) when another mother scolds Seb and tells him he's a bad mother. And that he's obviously not parenting his kids right. When she sees his bump she sneers that he should of kept his leg closed. Thats when the alpha swoops in and makes her leave. And Seb just burst into tears while Maxy and Charles hug their momma and Mick looks so worried. The alphas tries to calm Seb down, and he also opens the boys snack lol.

Oh pllss! Momma seb just having a nice day in the park with his chaos twins, little baby snd the pup in his tummy and everything is going great. But he can't get the packet of snacks open for the boys and they get fussy, but Seb is holding a happy squeaking Mick close with one arm so he only has one hand to open the snacks.

The Karen getting annoyed and snapping at Seb and seb feels horrendous because he was just trying to have a nice time with his babies. And then the Karen even tells.him he should have kept his legs closed... pls Seb had all the pups by donors, or some adopted and it just hurts a lot hearing that.

Alpha Jenson swooping in and scaring the Karen off and then just wordlessly taking the snack and opening it for the little toddlers while Seb sniffles and tries to calm himself! The pups leaving their snack foe what it is when,they realise momma is sad and instsntly hugging him! Even lando in seb's tummy kicks softly in support! Jenson gently calming seb and telling him he is doing wonderful tho!

Elle Peterson as Karen, Sissy Spacek as Alice, and Charlize Theron as Josie are three generations of Aimes females in North Country (2005). Josie is based on Lois Jenson who began work in the coal mine in 1975 and filed her first lawsuit in 1988 after 13 years of harrassment. Her case was settled in 1998.

Application for Immortality, part four

Jake wouldn’t let me talk about it on the subway or walking on the street. That was frustrating. I was bursting to talk about it. When we got to my place and I shut the door, I started to tell him everything I was thinking: Was this some sort of joke? How did I come up with that picture and that Kurdish phrase? I didn’t know a single word in Kurdish! And what was with the fountain pens? And so on.

“Where’s the letter?” he was blunt. I went to the table and found, not my Application, but another envelope with that perfect handwriting that said

Paige Willoughby.

I picked it up. It was sealed and there was an object in it. I looked at Jake. “Sit down,” he said in a tone of kindly authority that I’d never heard him use. So I did. He took the envelope from me and sat next to me.

“Paige, this is real.” I must have looked puzzled and opened my mouth to speak. He held up his hand to stop me. I did. “Immortals are real. Except that they are called Nga Matekore.”

“What?!” I said. Again he held up his hand.

“This is a lot to take in,” he said. “I know that. I know you have questions. But let me explain some things first.” I nodded.

“It’s interesting that you mentioned languages in the Application.”

“You knew about it?” Again, I interrupted.

“Yes,” he said. “I’ll get to that in a minute. Nga Matekore is Maori for The Immortals. Each Matekore speaks his own native language. One gift given to Matekore is hearing another Matekore speak his own language and understanding it, even though he has never learned that language.” He paused. “You OK?”

“Yeah.”

“So language was a factor in your favor when the Matekore elders were considering you. There was quite a lot of discussion about you applying because you weren’t supposed to have an Application to begin with. That was for Karen Jenson. She had already been vetted as a possible Matekore. When she died suddenly, the courier wasn’t told and delivered it anyway.”

“But she died months ago.”

“Yes, she did. Time in the Matekore world is quite different than the linear time that we know. But back to the Application. Once you started to write on it, the elders knew about it and decided that it was better to let you keep it for now. It’s a good thing that you came to me with this, because I already know about Matekore and I can help you, if you want to continue.”

“What if I told someone else?”

“The Matekore have dealt with that successfully, but it requires a lot of coordination between Matekore and trusted anthu, and has sometimes caused the munthu considerable stress. It’s not the way they want to go. It’s better to avoid that situation altogether.”

“What does ant-oo mean?” I asked.

“Oh, sorry. There’s just so much to tell you. It’s hard to know where to start. Anthu means humans. Munthu means one human.”

“I need to write this down.” I started to get up.

“No doubt, but not yet.” I sat back down. “When you finished the Application and put it in the envelope, you submitted it. The elders met and talked for quite some time. Actually, argue would be a better word. It was rather heated at times. Several were willing to seriously consider you for immortality, but others weren’t, saying that you weren’t selected for consideration and therefore, shouldn’t even be discussed. Their decision was to meet with you and question you themselves before even considering your Application. Even that was controversial. You have to understand that a candidate never gets to the Matekore world until after acceptance of the Application. You are the first munthu to be invited to do so.”

“Ever?”

“Yes, ever.”

“But me? Why?” I put my hand on the center of my chest, a gesture I had always done when I was feeling something deeply. In this case, I was feeling honored and unworthy, at all once.

“Because several elders, including David, stubbornly advocated on your behalf.”

“David is Matekore?!?” This was getting to be too much.

“Yes.” He smiled. “A minority of wamuthu priests know about Matekore. You look pale. Do you want to lie down?” I nodded. He put his arm around my shoulders and took my hand. “It’s going to be OK. I know this is shocking. You’ll process all this, but it’s going to take some time.” He took me to my bedroom, took my shoes off, and tucked me in, even though I was still fully dressed. He knew what he was doing. I didn’t think that I would be able to sleep, but I fell asleep before he turned off the lights.
