Day 3
This morning we were determined and set out to eat some Varanasi Butter Toast...but it was already too late and all the sada makhan and rabdi was sold out. (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥`)
After some consolation, we then set out for Kalabhairava Mandir where the picture is from. On the line to the temple, a butterfly rested on our maalas. The inside of the temple was so cool; we even got to ring a bell at the entrance! I thought I wouldn't be able to reach it, but in the end I did it😌
Tumblr media
We started feeling hungry again so we decided to have Kachori for breakfast. It was SO good! We bought Longlata from the restaurant we ate at and it was also really tasty.
Tumblr media
That's all for today! We were tired so we didn't do much in the evening. Our flight back home is tomorrow so honestly, this is not too bad either.
See you next time~

Prompt (optional):   I'd love a closet femboy trope with them slowly gaining the confidence with their partner to show themselves to the world as they wish to. Like confidence building and tenderness and maybe steaminess. Specially a femboy who doesn't have a traditionally "femme" body and therefore has that extra layer of insecurity. And maybe their partner could like painstakingly learn sewing for them as a surprise to gift them their dream clothes when they cant find their size or body specific cuts in the stores or are just too shy to go in said stores.
(Oh friend, I hope I did this prompt justice because I have never attempted this type of story before. I hope you like it and I did try my hand at giving you something steamy, let’s see if I succeeded).
Relationships: Bheem x KalaBhairava
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Internalized Shame, Toxic Masculinity

Bhairava was quietly admiring the scenery around him as he followed Bheem through the forest. His…lover? Partner? Something else? had asked him to accompany him for two nights away from the village. At first Bhairava had hesitated, knowing the village already suspected the pair were more than the friends they claimed to be, and the last thing he wanted was to make life harder for Bheem.
It had been happenstance, stumbling into Bheem and a few other men from the tribe as they were trying to fend themselves from the Nizamate’s guards. And though it had been a while since Bhairava had taken up arms, he had quickly joined the foray and helped them drive the guards back enough to manage an escape into the forest. Bhairava himself had only been passing through the area, so he had decided to just keep moving instead of finding a place to stay the night.
But the universe must have been determined to have him meet Bheem properly, because only a couple of days later, it was Bhairava who was being ganged up on, and Bheem who came to his rescue.
That encounter had been a few months ago, since which time he had accepted Bheem’s offer to stay at their village.
A little over two years since he had left his past life behind.
It had been hard leaving Mithra behind, but her father had been adamant, and with the Britishers at their borders, Bhairava did not want to make trouble for him. Since he had left, he had wandered from city to town to village, picking up the odd job here and there to earn enough money. He stayed for a few weeks before shifting again, too afraid to put down roots.
Every day since his self-imposed exile began, he had felt himself closing off from the world, doing things in rote, retreating further and further into his shell. Until he had met Bheem.
The other man…he was breath taking. In his strength. In his knowledge of the land. In his kindness.
In his softness.
But he was still undeniably a man. With large hands, and broad shoulders, with an easy strength and an open heart. He was capable of being the fiercest warrior Bhairava had ever seen in battle, but then could turn and gently tend to a baby bird’s broken wing, nursing it with patience till it was ready to fly again. Bheem had feet that knew the land he was born in, and the land knew him back, revealing itself to him like to no other. Bhairava had watched him climb trees like he could fly, construct nets with knots strong enough to capture elephants, and wrestle tigers into submission till they scampered away.
The whole village loved him. And he loved them just as fiercely. Bhairava had ached to be belong to the circle of people Bheem cared for. He had also been envious about how comfortable Bheem was in his own skin.
Bhairava had been taught that softness was weakness, and had been forced to learn the lesson the hard way.
But he was weak.
He had to be, because there were always these…feelings.
Longings.
Things that no soldier, that no man should ever feel.
He should have been happy with his military prowess, with his natural talent with the sword and other weapons. He should have been cocky over the fact so many women admired him openly, and laughed at the crude jokes made by his fellow men.
And yet.
None of that had appealed to him. He had not wanted to want. Rather he wanted to be wanted. To be something to covet. Something less…something else.
He had wanted that so fiercely the strength of it seemed to nearly bowl him over some days. He did not understand why, or where these desires came from. But he wanted them so badly.
The clink of bangles stretching from his wrist to half way up his forearm. Earrings that hung heavy, hair that brushed beyond his shoulder blades. Flowers that he could tie into his braid, the soft cloth of saris brushing against his skin. The jingle of anklets with his every step, mehendi on his hands and feet. Kajal for his eyes. Necklaces, rings, beautiful delicate things.
Things that didn’t belong to him.
Things that could never belong to him.
Thoughts that could condemn him.
Thoughts he has stamped down and buried and drowned and set fire to. Yet they keep coming back up.
He had never dared share these desires with anyone, knowing it would not only lose him the respect of everyone he called a friend, but also an outcast.
He had become an outcast in the end, though for very different reasons. But, well, now he had much less to lose. He had started to indulge in his desires. Little things. A set of pearl earrings instead of his plain gold hoops. Delicate glass bangles that barely fit through his fist. And once. Just once. He had bought a sari, a soft thing of the palest pink, with little flowers woven along the border. He had lost the nerve to do much beyond draping it over his arm. But oh, even that had felt… Bhairava shut his eyes as a frisson of want ran down his spine, biting his lip.
He grunted when he bumped into Bheem, the other man wrapping a large hand around his elbow. Bhairava liked that too.
It had scared it at first, the way he had felt about Bheem, about what he wanted from the man. What he wanted the man to do to him. How every touch sent shivers down his spine, and left his skin tingling like it had been burned by sunlight.
He had liked how even though they were almost the same size, Bheem was just broad enough in the shoulders, with hands capable of holding his entire waist, and thighs that were thick as tree trunks. All together, just enough to make Bhairava feel small. And safe.
No one had ever looked at Bhairava as someone who needed to be protected. And granted, he was still capable of putting up a fight, or of showing off his strength. It was merely that Bheem never demanded anything of that sort from him.
He always accepted Bhairava as he was.
Even after he told the other man about his past.
Even when he confessed he cared for Bheem in a way that wouldn’t be welcome, so it would be best if he left the village.
Even when Bheem found his small treasure of trinkets, and Bhairava had not had the heart or courage to lie about the items as not being his.
Not just accepted either.
No.
Bheem had woven him a small length of flowers we had presented to Bhairava with a blinding smile, saying it was for his hair. It had felt like he couldn’t breathe, the way the simple act threatened to bring Bhairava to his knees. Or another instance where he purposely goaded Malli into a challenge about improving her designs by using Bhairava as a model for her mehendi. Or like last week, when in the dead of the night, with only the sounds of the night animals around them, Bheem had quietly asked if Bhairava would prefer to be called something else. He had even asked Bhairava if it was that he felt he was a woman, that there were people born whose souls accidentally ended up in the wrong bodies.
But that was not it. Bhairava was a man, and he liked being a man.
He also happened to love soft things, pretty things. Delicate things. Things that would not be associated with blood and war and death.
Time and again, Bheem had done things to ingrain into Bhairava that he was fine just the way he was. That he was not strange or less of a man or disgusting for what he wanted.
"You have been lost in thought the whole walk Bhairava, everything alright?” Bheem asked, eyebrows furrowed in concern.
Bhairava nodded. “Yes, sorry Bheem, I was just thinking.”
Bheem raised an eyebrow. “About?”
Bhairava smiled softly at him, wrapping both his hands around Bheem’s forearm and squeezing. “How fortunate I am to have met you.”
Bheem’s smile turned sheepish as he looked to the ground, and scratched his head. Clearing his throat, he said. “Right. Well. I am happy to have met you too. Now please, go inside the hut and keep our bags down. There is a pit in the back to cook, see if you get the fire started. I will search for some more food and firewood. All the food is in your bags, so no need to open mine.”
Bhairava was curious about the indirect way in which Bheem was telling him to stay out his things but shrugged Bhairava nodded and entered the hut, a small circular place with a simple cot in one corner, a small nook filled with cooking supplies in the opposite end, and a flimsy divider to change clothes behind. Outside, to the back of the hut was the pit, still full of burnt and dried wood. He cleared it out, replacing fresh wood from the small pile stored against the wall of the hut. He collected some dead leaves, throwing them into the pit as well. He retrieved the flint stone by the pit, striking it once, twice, thrice before the spark caught on the leaves and a decent fire started to form. Bhairava went into the hut, gathering a couple of the cooking pots and started on a basic curry from the vegetables they had brought from the village.
By the time Bheem returned, he had finished the vegetables and the rice was also nearly done. Bheem hummed approvingly and motioned for Bhairava to move aside. Bheem set down a new pile of firewood, as well as a couple of game birds he must have hunted. “Wasn’t sure if the food we brought would be enough to last us till tomorrow, so I thought I’d get some extra meat.”
Bhairava grinned and sat cross-legged across from him, watching as the Gond man expertly skinned and prepared the birds before placing it over the fire.
“There should be some banana leaves inside, can you get them?” Bheem nodded in the direction of the hut.
Bhairava stood up and retrieved the leafs, sprinkling some water on both before laying them on the ground. Bheem laid out the food they’d prepared and they ate in quiet contentment, exchanging quiet stories from their past week and what their friends were up to.
By the time they finished their meal, evening had fallen, the thick canopy covering the sun’s light far quicker than outside the forest. They cleaned after themselves and entered the hut, Bheem lighting three of the oil lanterns inside. He took the largest lantern and hung it from a hook at the center of the hut Bhairava hadn’t even noticed.
The light cast the hut in warm shadows, and Bhairava sat down lightly on the cot, wrapping his arms around his knees.
Bheem turned to him with one of his signature beaming smiles, further warming Bhairava. “So, are you finally going to tell me what we are doing up here? Or was it just an excuse to be away from the village?”
Bheem laughed, “Nothing nefarious, bangaram, I just thought you’d feel more comfortable doing this where we couldn’t be interrupted.”
Bhairava blushed even as his brows furrowed.
“Do what?”
Now it was Bheem’s turn to smile shyly. He cleared his throat and went to the large bundle he had been carrying on the way here, unwrapping it and retrieving a smaller bundle. “I thought you would like to dress the way you always wanted. It’s not much, or anything fancy, but I still think you will look beautiful in in.” Bheem confessed as he placed the open bundle at Bhairava’s feet.
Bhairava’s breath hitched at the sight of the treasure within. His pale pink sari, a pair of simple string anklets with colorful beads tied together, four wooden bracelets and a small metal ring with a floral design. Earrings, of glass beads in the same shade of pink alongside his purchased pearl earrings, and a small lidded pot with kajal.
Bhairava looked up at Bheem with wide eyes, tears blurring his vision.
“Bheem… this...”
Bheem enclosed both of Bhairava’s hands in his, pressing a light kiss to it. “Come on Bhairava just try it.“
Bhairava blinked rapidly to dispel the tears, and with trembling hands reached for the bundle.Bheem nudged him towards the screen at the back of the hut.
Bhairava removed his clothes, each breath a laborious effort. When he was down to his loin cloth, he pulled out the in-skirt for the sari, sliding it up his feet as his throat filled with a lump. His fingers trembled too much to tie the knot, causing him to curse. Bheem knocked on the screen, “Would you like some help?”
Bhairava couldn’t speak, just grunting.
Bheem entered, looking at him adoringly. He cupped Bhairava’s face, caressing away the tears that were streaming down. “Bangaram, no tears.”
He reached for the strings of the in-skirt, pulling them tight and tying them after a nod from Bhairava.
He next reached for the blouse he had asked Loki to help him sew in confidence, a task that had resulted in more pricked fingers than when he had accidentally put his hand into a pile of splinters.
Bhairava chuckled wetly. “Where on Earth did you find this blouse?” he asked as Bheem held him slide his arms in before turning him to face him, pulling the blouse closed with the hooks sewn in.
Bheem’s ears reddened as he ran a finger beneath the slleves to make sure the fabric wasn’t biting into Bhairava’s skin. “I asked for Loki to help me make it.”
Bhairava’s hands wrapped around Bheem’s wrists. Bheem looked up, finding Bhairava gazing at him as if he weren’t real.
“Is it comfortable?”
Bhairava nodded. How could he explain that the feel of the cotton felt both so unfamiliar yet so right, the way the cloth hugged war-begotten muscles as though they were a noble woman’s curves? Or the way the fabric felt like a luxury he didn’t deserve?
Bheem stared intensely at him for another few seconds before turning to get the sari, unfolding it till the fabric tumbled into a heap in between their feet. Together they worked to drape the sari, Bhairava nearly crying as he looked down to see the pale pink cotton he had never worn before shine against his skin.
Bheem pressed a soft kiss to Bhairava’s forehead. “Finish with the rest, I will be waiting outside.”
Bhairava bit his lip, willing his heart to stop thundering so hard in his chest. He curled his fingers into a fist, clenching till the fingernails bit into the meat of his palm, and when that didn’t work, he leaned against the dirt walls of the hut, breathing deeply and purposefully to bring himself back to normal. When he blinked his eyes open after the exercise, he ran his hands over the folds of the sari, unable to stop the wide smile that split his face. He reached for the jewellery Bheem had collected for him, bending down to tie the anklets, then the bangles and the earrings. He combed his fingers through his hair, untangling any curls so it hung long behind him. He finally took the kajal pot in hand, and used his pinky finger to dab at the thick ink before bringing it to his eyes. Without a mirror, he had to rely on just his sense of touch.
He closed the lid, placing the ring on his other pinky, as it was too small to fit any of his other fingers. He ached to know what he looked like.
Before he stepped out, he took another calming breath, running a hand through his hair, tucking the locks behind his ear. He moved forward, hands falling forward to clasp themselves at his front.
Bheem seemed to have been laying on the bed, because at the sound of Bhairava coming from behind the screen he had sat up, and was now looking at him with a wide open mouth.
Bhairava’s smile hesitated, and he gathered the courage to say the words. “What…what do you think?”
Bheem was quiet, sliding off the cot and walking to him, holding out both bands, palms up.
Bhairava swallowed, and placed his hands on top of Bheem’s, giggling nervously when Bheem squeezed his hands. “I think you look like a forest nymph who has come to enchant me. But more importantly, what do you think? How do you feel?”
Bhairava exhaled shakily, “I…it feels…so good. It feels right.”
His face felt flushed when he opened his eyes, and Bheem was looking proudly at him. Bhairava couldn’t contain it any longer and threw himself at the other man holding him as tightly as possible. Bheem grunted but held them steady, burying his face in Bhairava’s hair. “You are missing one last accessory though.” the Gond man finally said.
When Bhairava leaned back to look at him questioningly, Bheem pulled him to sit on the bed with his back to him. He gathered all of Bhairava’s hair and managed to do a simple braid . Then he pulled out the last thing from his bundle, a small paper ball. When he unwrapped it, the room filled with the scent of fresh flowers, and Bhairava’s breath left him again. A half-foot long string had been tied with alternating pink and purple flowers, which Bheem now straightened out.
“May I?” Bheem murmured.
Bhairava nodded, turning slightly to give Bheem the most access.
Bheem plucked two small pins from somewhere, and gently pinned the flowers on either side of Bhairava’s head, so they fell in a slight ‘U’ shape.
“Perfect.”
Bhairava couldn’t stop the choked noise from escaping as a single tear escaped from the corner of his eye, but Bheem shushed him. “Come on bangaram, you’ll make the kajal run.”
Bhairava laughed wetly and leaned back against Bheem, tilting his head against his shoulder and blinked rapidly until his vision cleared.
“There we go.” Bheem said as he tucked Bhairava’s hair behind his ear, looking at him with twinkling eyes.
Bhairava grabbed his hand, pressing a kiss to his rough palm, heavy with callouses. “I love you.”
Bheem seemed to glow as he took in those words, a giant smile cracking his face in half. He turned his head to press a kiss to Bhairava’s forehead. “You are wonderful Bhairava. Or should I call you my priya?”
Hearing that feminine endearment being used in relation to him made Bhairava’s soul feel ready to float in the sky.
“I would like that.” Bhairava replied softly.
“My priya.” Bheem repeated, kissing at the corner of Bhairava’s eye.
“My bangaram.” The other eye.
“My Bhairava.” A soft, barely there graze of his lips over Bhairava’s.
Bhairava turned in Bheem’s arms, tangling his fingers into Bheem’s curls and pulling him back in, turning the kiss into an open-mouthed one.
The pair collapsed back on the bed, and the feeling of being pressed down by Bheem’s weight sent a thrill racing to Bhairava’s loins.
Bheem seemed to notice because he smirked devilishly and hitched Bhairava’s leg over his hip, settling into the vee of Bhairava’s thighs. He wrapped his hands around Bhairava’s delicate ankles and caressed upward, dragging the sari and in-skirt along until they fell in a heap around Bhairava’s waist. Bhairava arched his back as the delicate touch seemed to leave a line of fire in its wake, and his body yearned to be born anew in the flames.
Bheem took the opening to press kisses from Bhairava’s neck down, kissing his Adam’s apple, the hollow at the base of his throat, his collarbones. He pulled back enough to tug at Bhairava’s sari questioningly. “We shouldn’t wrinkle this, no?”
Bhairava blushed again, sitting up to help Bheem unwrap the sari, dumping it on the floor beside them. Bheem pushed him back down by the shoulders, this time kissing the back of his ears, the junction where his neck met his shoulder. He didn’t try to remove the blouse, instead kissing of the fabric in a way that had Bhairava biting down on his forearm to stifle his cries.
Bheem tutted disapprovingly. “The whole point of being all alone is you don’t have to hide, my priya. Let me hear you.”
Bhairava’s voice seemed to function independently from him as Bheem’s next kiss to the top of Bhairava’s abdomen had him groaning unrecognizably. He tangled his fingers in Bheem’s hair to keep him there as Bheem worked to cover every inch of his midriff in his kisses, gasping when he sucked at the skin hard enough to bruise.
When he felt satisfied with his work, Bheem pressed one last biting kiss right below Bhairava’s belly button before sliding back up. Bhairava caught him in a kiss that had them tangling closer together, till not even a breeze could pass between them. Bhairava let Bheem pin his arms beside his head, looking up at him with blown pupils, flushed cheeks, and red, swollen lips.
“If only you could see yourself, priya, “ Bheem spoke with a growl that had Bhairava’s eyes shuttering close as electricity raced through all his nerves, leaving him twitchy and squirming. If only Bheem could see himself, bare chested and hairy, with muscles as large as his head, and tattoos that Bhairava wanted to bite. Those giant thighs spreading his legs open, the strength just barely held back. Eyes that glinted with a primal lust that seemed ready to devour Bhairava whole.
Bhairava whined, incapable of words while under such an intense stare. While in his head Bhairava knew he was roughly the same size as Bheem, and of equal strength if need be… in that instance, in the hut in the woods, with only a couple of oil lights to provide them light. With the incessant brushing of the in-skirt against his thighs, and the fabric of the blouse skin-tight. With the unignorable weight of each accessory Bheem had gathered for him, and the scent of the flowers in his hair half drugging him. With Bheem himself caging him in and holding him down.
Bhairava felt small, and soft, and capable of being bruised.
He felt delicate.
And he felt ready to be eaten.
“Bheema, please….” Bhairava whimpered as he arched his head, begging for a kiss.
As Bheem launched himself to partake in his feast, Bhairava finally felt that small voice that had been shaming him for these desires shut itself off, unable to stand against the love of his Protector.

Translation
Salutations to Lord Kalabhairava, the supreme lord of Kashi, whose lotus feet are revered by Lord Indra, king of the devas; who has a snake as his sacrificial thread, a moon on his head and is very compassionate; who is praised by Narada, sage of the gods, and other yogis; who is a Digambara, wearing the sky as his dress, symbolizing his free being.
Salutations to Lord Kalabhairava, the supreme lord of Kashi, who has the brilliance of a million suns, who saves devotees from the cycle of rebirths, and who is supreme; who has a blue throat, who grants us our desires, and who has three eyes; who is death unto death itself and whose eyes look like a lotus; whose trident supports the world and who is immortal.
Salutations to Lord Kalabhairava, the supreme lord of Kashi, who holds the trident, mattock, noose, and club in his hands; whose body is dark, who is the primordial Lord, who is immortal, and free from the diseases of the world; who is immensely mighty and who loves the wonderful tandava dance.
Salutations to Lord Kalabhairava, the supreme lord of Kashi, the one who bestows both desires and salvation, who has a pleasing appearance; who is loving to his devotees, who is stable as the god of all the worlds; who wears a golden belt around his waist with bells that make a melodious sound when he moves.
Salutations to Lord Kalabhairava, the supreme lord of Kashi, who ensures that dharma (righteousness) prevails, who destroys the path of adharma (unrighteousness); who saves us from the bonds of karma, thereby freeing our soul; and who has golden-hued snakes entwined around his body.
Salutations to Lord Kalabhairava, the supreme lord of Kashi, whose feet are adorned with two golden sandals with gems; who is the eternal, non-dual Ishta devata (god who grants our desires); who destroys the pride of Yama (God of Death); whose terrible teeth liberate us.
Salutations to Lord Kalabhairava, the supreme lord of Kashi, whose loud roar destroys the sheaths of creations (meaning the delusions of our mind) of the lotus-born Brahma; whose very glance is enough to destroy all our sins; who gives us the eight siddhis (accomplishments); and who wears a garland of skulls.
Salutations to Lord Kalabhairava, the supreme lord of Kashi, who is the leader of ghosts and goblins, who bestows glory; who frees the people of Kashi from their sinful and righteous deeds; who guides us on the path of righteousness, who is the most ancient (eternal) lord of the universe.
Salutations to Lord Kalabhairava, the supreme lord of Kashi. Those who read these eight verses of the Kalabhairava Ashtakam, which is beautiful, which is a source of knowledge and liberation, which increases the various forms of righteousness in a person, which destroys grief, attachment, poverty, greed, anger, and heat – will attain (after death) the feet of Lord Kalabhairava.
- Kaalbhairav Ashtakam by Adi Shankaracharya
