AYCE dimsum

1st of its species in Edm .. AYCE dimsum @ Top One.

Located on Whyte Ave, this restaurant used to be a Korean/Japanese fusion place.

I came to this place for lunch on a Tues in mid-February. To be exact, I came on Feb. 13. From my knowledge, a lot has changed since my visit. Therefore, I will only be sharing my experience here (maybe at the end I'll share what I heard from my coworker's experience, which was 2 weeks after mine).

Okay, 1st off. I got this picture menu. I think this was suitable & useful.

The 2nd piece of paper. Also laminated, this is the ordering sheet. It has the table number as well as the check-out time. When they 1st opened, it was 2hr limit. When I went, that became 90mins; however, the lady said bcos it wasn't busy, they gave extra 20mins, which was 110 haha still not the full 120min but. .. that's the most you could get :P

Their system was actually very efficient. When I heard AYCE dimsum, I had assumed it was the traditional 'pick up whatever you want' from a communal area with steamed dishes. That was NOT it, at all.

So what did happen was. .. we filled out round 1 on the sheet. The staff lady would take the sheet into the kitchen & prep the stuff (& bring out the items as they're prepared). Once the order is complete, they will bring back an empty order sheet.

Of note, there were some minor ordering details. ..

I'm sure you see the wastage fee in the upper right corner. Keep that in mind.

& also, the lady told us that during busy times, tables of diners can only max 5 items per person per round of ordering. For instance, if you have a party of 2, during busy hrs, the 2 of you can order max 10 unique items (doesn't matter the quantity of each one; they only care about unique items). The reason for this was to ensure every table gets something, & the kitchen isn't just prepping your order.

Took some time to see the back. The interior is same as before when it was the Korean/Japanese place. (I've been here once)

I don't know much about their hot pot but it's by weight & only available during dinner service. The AYCE dimsum service, at the time of my visit, is available all day (till they close). Of course, you can't order both kinds of service at your table. Everyone has to only do dimsum OR hotpot.

The standard: shrimp dumplings & the siu mai.

The siu mai was good; decent size, flavour was good. Freshly steamed. The shrimp dumplings - not so good even though also freshly steamed.. The dough/wrap portion was kind of stiff. The filling was alright though.

Ribs: good. Looks sad but you can always order more. I didn't eat chicken feet.

Xiao long bao was mediocre. I think you gotta be reasonable for certain things. For AYCE where I expected to just grab from a table, these were freshly steamed when the order sheet comes in so I felt it was decent. Also, the lady said they order from a supplier for most things so . .. I mean, it's not really the restaurant, it's the supplier. I think the xiao long bao is better than the store-bought frozen ones but lacking compared to other places. The beef ball, I didn't have bcos it contains the dried mandarin peel stuff, which I dislike in meat balls.

Pan-fried rice rolls. Okay, this was good as is but misleading in terms of what the name suggested. Pan-fried rice rolls should have a bit of the umm. .. well, evidence of pan-fried-ness lol these were pan-fried but VERY slightly. They lacked the crispy edges. But, like I said, flavour was good (just simple soy sauce) & the rice rolls were soft, so I don't particularly have anything to complain about. Just. .. didn't match what I expected.

Now this one is the steamed plain rice roll. This was legit like the Cantonese stuff that I've had in the motherland, which was pleasantly surprising. This kind of plain rice roll is essentially a large sheet & it steamed/scrunched up like this. Unlike the typical steamed rice rolls you see in dimsum restaurants in Edm (the ones that contain some sort of filling, whether it's BBQ pork or beef or shrimp). I REALLY liked this! It had no flavour on its own but it comes with peanut sauce. Each table also has chili sauce & soy sauce so you can customerize your 'flavour'. I chose the ribs juice from above & soy sauce.

Deep fried shrimp wontons: 10/10!

The curry squid. .. okay, they brought out a 'cold' one in error. They were really nice about it when I told them that it was cold.

The hot "ready" one; I give .. 8.5/10. Honestly, I think it was actually good to realize they do steam things fresh. Like that 1st dish of curry squid was literally... not ready.

Round 2!

Pan-fried shrimp cake & chiu chow dumpling. I don't like this kind of dumpling so I didn't commit to any lol the shrimp cake was not bad. It had a lot of shrimp but also a lot of vegetables. I've never had shrimp cake like this before.

Pork + century egg congee. This was delicious!!

Wonton in chili oil. We ordered 2 just for trying purposes but got 5. We would've kept it if we liked it but ended up sending 3 back into the kitchen (didn't want to pay wastage fee when we didn't even order that many). The wonton was good but the sauce was not. I had imagined it was like. .. a diff chili oil. This was chili oil mixed with red vinegar - it's a northen Chinese thing, I later found it. Had that Szechuan numbing spice in there. I just wasn't a fan but. .. maybe you will be!

Wings were kinda dry but pretty good; flavour was 'original' haha ie: salt. Spring rolls = no good. They were the grocery store frozen kinds & contained mushy vegetable inside.

Soy sauce chow mein. GOOD! Freshly made & you can smell the wok-smokiness.

Eggtarts . .. 8/10. Others have high standards for egg tarts but for me, my biggest thing is the filling. Not the amount, not the ratio with the crust . . just the flavour & texture itself. I dislike egg-y ones & ones that are too sweet. This was not bad but the texture was not as smooth as I would have liked it to be. May have been over-baked. But otherwise, the crust was okay. I also dislike flaky crust lol & this one wasn't very flaky.

Coconut jelly. It was alright. Refreshing, that's for sure.

Osmanthus jelly & mango pudding. The jelly was really not my thing. The texture was weird! & I generally don't like floral-y things. The mango pudding though. .. 10/10!

Alright, so what my coworkers experienced. .. they also went on a weekday for lunch, when it wasn't busy but they were given a strict 90mins. It was enough for them so they didn't mind. Plus, they didn't like the food so they were looking forward to leaving :( they had a smaller menu (like maybe 33% smaller than mine) that was presented on an iPad with some items being unavailable, which made the list even shorter! They also said they paid more than $23.88/person. Altogether, more expensive with fewer food options & strict time limit . .. & 'bad' food. Now I feel terrible for recommending. But hey! When I went, it wasn't like that =(

Dear Jealousy

Suki wondered if she never noticed it before or she did but choose not to. In five years of being together with Sokka she never felt jealousy towards girls surrounding him even to those who openly flirt with him. But as they all say there's always a first in everything and tonight is the first time she ever felt jealous. She can't understand why she feel this way, him mentioning her name stirred something inside her. Maybe it was because she find it weird that he spoke so fondly about his co-white lotus agent or maybe it's how his eyes sparkle as he talks about her.

"It's been so long since we actually have a dinner date, and since were not both busy, I figured we should take the chance and explore outside the Royal Palace." she remembered him say. Sokka just came back from a white lotus mission and asked her out in a date for it will soon be their sixth anniversary.

The night was turning out perfectly fine. Sokka brought her in some carnival. She enjoyed the different rides that they tried but her favorite is the ferris wheel, she find it so romantic watching the sunset with Sokka while he kissed her as their gandola stops on the top for a bit "I missed you so much, Sukes" he told her after breaking away from her lips. There's a flash of longing and something akin to hesitation in his eyes as he said those words but she quickly forgot about it as he kissed her anew.

They wandered in the streets of the city's capital and check out some shop until they stopped in front of a perfume stall. He start searching for a certain scent, he then picks up one bottle and open it slightly she was close enough to him to know that it's a jasmine perfume. The fragrance is oddly familiar to her, it feels like she already encountered it somewhere until a realization hit her as she stood there watching Sokka paying for his purchase. There was no doubt that the perfume Sokka bought is similar to what his white lotus partner often use.

She have so many question running in her mind that time. She didn't even notice that they're already in front of a necklace stall not until Sokka gently put a rose pendant on her. "I'll take it," he told the merchant as he hand over some money before turning to look at her once again with a smile and said "It looks good on you" she blushed at his words. That is the second time that night all of her doubts and worries were diminished.

After checking out shops they went to a dimsum house. The ambiance and people working at the restaurant were great and most importantly the food they serve was so good. She exchange stories with Sokka. She told him all the event he had missed and how she's faring as the head of Kyoshi Warriors as well as the Firelord's bodyguard while he enthusiastically told her the adventures he had gone through on his missions. She felt a little glad that Sokka didn't mentioned anything about his partner not until she asked him something she wished she never did that night. "How did you know about this place?"

"Azula" the mentioned of the princess' name was enough to break her inside. "Remember last month when we cameback from a mission but no one is there except for the guards and servants because you and the Kyoshi Warriors went on a meeting with Zuko at the Republic City?" she simply nodded. "Well, I kinda pester her to tour me at the Capital which she did, and I get hungry after the tour so she took me here she said that this was the best dimsum house in the capital and she's right!" he continue rambling happily as he stuffed his mouth with dumplings. Her thoughts are running wild, she wants to ask Sokka if him and Azula also went to all those places they went tonight, the idea of them doing the things they did first sends a rushed of jealousy that Suki was trying to suppress for a long time.

"How about you Sukes did you like the food here?" Sokka's voice break her train of thoughts and brought her back to reality. "Yeah, Azula's right the food here is delicious," she replied smiling before taking a bite of dumpling. There's a bitter aftertaste lingering in her mouth as she continue to eat and she's sure it's not because of the food.

JULY

July, my birthday month, though it ain't making any different. The month i travel a lot, month that I nervously waiting as I knew would experience many new things.

July 2nd

This day, i wanna do a lot of things in my bucket lists. Watching elemental, I heard it being a good romance cartoon many people could relate. I asked my friends previously if anyone were interested, but i was being impatience, i wanted to do it immediately, so i ended up waching it alone. Not a big deal for me tho. After watching the cute movie, I eat my legendary high school dish chicken katsu noodle, also alone. At this point i must be looked very sad and lonely. But I really value my time and other's too, I don't have to wait for other when i could comfortably do it mysef. Others don't have to enforce themselves do the things they actually doesn't really interested in and spent money on it.

The-me-time day hadn't end yet. After having dinner, I went to watch artjog, anual art exhibition, the biggest and most famous one. I bought bundling ticket for exhibtion and theater stage. It would be my first time watching profesional theater performance, I was really excited. There were a lot of paintings and installation, but i was in a rush as the theater was about to start.

The artists were really cool. I could see their talents, their passions, and when all the staff were being called at the end of the performance, i was really moved. It's how art were made.

july 3rd

My birthday. Nothing different. There's no birthday present, just a little dimsum-as-a-cake surprised from my workmates. Thankyou, I really appreciated it.

July 6th, 7th I'm lucky my hometown is such a cultural city. It has a lot of culture related events. Like today, i was casualy scrolling my instagram and found an event, an opening of Kotabaru Heritage Festival, there would be a dance and orchestra performance and later, walking tour and photography exhibition. All was free, of course I won't miss it. That part of the city is realy familiar to me, my junior and senior high school located there. It's fun to know more abot its history.

July 8th First out of town trip. The closest one, 2 hours distance. It's only me and my long time close friend. First, we wanted to go by train, but then she offered to drive. That's a better idea, better moblity and these day the trains were so packed.

We don't really had a plan. We had the list but we went anywhereour moods lead. First stop, to fill our stomach we visit cute small coffeshop. The coffee was good, my friend said. I am not a coffee person, i ordered matchalatte and it was decent. The croissant was tasty also, I'm not a fan of croissant but I really like that coffeshop has.

Then we walked for little bit to Pura Mangkunegaran Palace. That palace is still functioning as residential house. My imagination flew away imagining how it was living as a nobleman, having the freaking huge house. The tour must be conducted wit a guide, and the guide war realy helpfull and informative. But they missed informing the history how this palace or kingdom (?) was form, and what's the difference between it and the other palace that Surakarta has. We looked up for that information while having dessert at the oldest ice cream shop in town. It's very famous, full of people. I wonder were they all tourist or there were some locals. Its nostalgic taste but not really special.

After the coffee, light meal, and dessert, we then heading to another famed food stall. We oredered take away so we won't coming back home empty handed. We had our late lunch almost dinner at small cute ocal steak. everything here is cute and small. The place were decorated with a lot of vintage items, a little bit random, here and there, but still cute. The food were great too. Not a fancy kind a steak, i think it was fried. But really tasty.

July 10th Asian Badminton Junior Championship. If there's a Badminton event held in town, of corse i should watch it. Young athletes working hard for dream, how can my heart not moved

July 16th After a long time, i join the weekend jogja walking tour again. I registered myself a lot, but then in the morning, i was overslept. Since my sister was home, I finally came to the tour. It's a tour of chinatown area of the city. Not much left but the story and history stayed to be told. We wanted to try the old bakery there but it hadn't open yet even after the tour ended, we had lunch and came back.

July 19th

Because of Greta Gerwig, i'm being #teambarbie haha. Second cinema this month. This time I have friend acompany me. As expected of Greta, it doesn't have to be explained. I really like it, the jokes hit me right. A lot of underlying meaning, a ittle bit too much i would say.

July 25th-28th

The very exhausting and worrying, make me nervous trip finally came. It's 4 days business trip to Bali, with car. I get dizzy easily so i'm afraid i would get motion sicknesss. Thanks god it didn't happen. actually I don't really remember how it went wkwkwkk. All I remember was I really tired and that I promise myself I woud comeback to bali and had enjoyable trip, my kinda style trip.

July 30th

This the highlight of the month. RADWIMPS CONCERT!!. I had been manifesting for about four years. Still tired from the Bali trip, i wasn't really excited at first. And also I came alone, so i'm a bit worry. I traveled solo quite often,but never to attend a concert. I literally just arrived, entering concert, jumping and singing and walking back to the inn quickly. Watching concert alone not bad, but being with friends is more fun. Inside the hall it was like magic. Wow i was reallyyyy happy.

July end. What a month. Somehow it felt restless. and I'm writting this post in a university library where i should doing my thesis. My biggest homework in life for now. Soon my post will full of library picture, me working hard on this reasearch. And by the end of the year, post about thesis defense presentation. Aameen :"))

[07 Casey Summer]

Casey had no idea why he was doing; he didn't really understand much of anything he's been doing since his mum passed away. Things were a strange blur. It felt like he was stuck in place, while everything around him moved on, changed. He didn't like the feeling. But he figured, maybe he just needed a change too, and he'd feel better. Yeah, totally how that works.

It's why he was starting simple; his hair. That was easily fixed if he hated it. Shame he knew approximately fuck and all about it. He was smart enough to grab a box of red hair dye but, that's as far as his knowledge went. Good thing he had a daughter who knew a lot more about this than him.

Stopping at her room, Casey briefly knocks, before letting himself in. He notes the mess; one day she'll clean it - Casey will be sure to play the lottery that day,

"Dimsum, I need t' ask yer somethin'," Casey asks, glancing down to the box in his hand, "How d' yer add red streaks t' yer hair?"

Summer luckily some may say, had never be to a funereal before the one held for her grandma. Go through all the motions that came from it. Sure they still had time with her before it happened Summer asking to go every chance given, sometimes she went by herself just wanting to try and soak in every last minute with her grandma that was left. But didn't matter if those minutes span into hours, days and more. When the time finally came, it was still too soon. Summer thought funerals were meant to help with the whole saying goodbye of someones death. But it didn't help Summer in the slightest. When she would tell her grandma goodbye before during visits and such? that was different because she was there to say it back to her. Summer sighed as she was looking over the copy of the funeral program she had kept for herself. Looking at the image of her grandam on front. Listed under was some basic information to summarize her life. Summer didn't like how short it was. Felt like it should have more to it then a few sentences. Felt like it should be bigger or have more pages even.

How can you really capture all one person was in just this one piece of paper alone? She wasn't the biggest fan of the photo they picked for it either didn't 'feel' like her grandma either. Laid out on her bed, program held up in the air above her thinking of how many things shes still wanted to ask and talk to her grandma about. Summer could talk for ever enough for three people she heard pop's joke before. But, not even Summer could cram in every conversation she wanted and needed to have with her grandma. She just felt hurt now. Not the kind you walk off in a hockey game either. It was hollow.

The faint knock on her door dose snap her out of her mind as she hums a little and lowers her program down to her chest before look to the side of the door. A few silent blinks looking towards her Dad right now. Casey wasn't hiding the pain of the loss as much as he seemed to think he was. But more than Summer was aware of she just offers a smile and swings her legs over to side of her bed. Swift motion to help set her to sit up right as she did. Gently setting her program to the bedside table. The only thing in her room not half hazard throw into the mess it always was. And would be.

"Dimsum, I need t' ask yer somethin',"

"Yeah?" Summer asks with a tilt of her own head a slightl frown tug her smile down. No one could blame Casey for how he was these day's. Summer was sure the days she had to go through what he was would be hard as well. Course, she wasn't excatly in the mood to fully explore that thought shifting her thoughts back on to the small little things. How her Dad's voice was just off these days, the sadden look that filled his eyes, the way he carried himself was so different as well. His sadness was heavy and clear. Summer noticed how he looked at the mess in her room sure he always tossed out a 'clean your room' not that anyone understood why. It wasn't going to happen after all.

"If it's ta clean my room, I 'hink the bed and closet are to full at 'his point." Summer makes a mention of because that was her way of cleaning her room. She was just trying to lighten the mood a little as she started to kick her feet. Maybe it's just because shes with her Dad so much but it's so easy to feel how low and heavy his mood has become these days. Maybe working a faint smile or laugh would work? Uncle Mikey always said smiling and laughing was the perfect cure. Please be right for once.

"How d' yer add red streaks t' yer hair?"

She tilts her head further as the swing to her legs come to a stop a moment "my hair?" She reaches up to play with a strand of red at the moment. She been doing the streaks longer than the blue black she started desperately to stain her hair with. "Well I jus' get the junk from the corner store and -" Summer slwoly let's her words fall off her tongue as something click.

Moving to stand uo on her mattress as she sets her hand son her Dad's shoulders. Pushing down on them as she struggles to try and peer over the top of his head. Casey was sturdy enough for the sudden act of Summer inspecting the top of her father's head. "Jeez Dad ya gettin' all Grey again? Old age ain't takin' it easy uh?" Summer questions before moving to hop off the side of her bed assuming she has the right puzzle pieces in her head. "Last week they had a sale so I got extra! We can cover up your grays real quick."

Summer suggests hopful in tone and her gaze she has fixed on her Dad. Because well they been so down and they haven't hung out much, all the funeral stuff doesn't count. Besides Casey felt not fully here lately. Summers sure it's just grief maybe but.

"I mean I only got 'he course but we could match it'll be fun an' I won't tease ya 'bout your grays even!" She threw in a little bargaining chip not that needed it, Casey was a massive push over when it came to Summer and she knew it. As she took hold of hus wrist with both her hands and started to tug and pull for him to follow her. "Come on I wanna try and get it done before pops gets back we can surpise 'im."

Summer seemed to get her Dad to go along with her plan. Having him sat on the kitchen floor due to height as she was stood behind him taking care of his hair, making sure she got a good covering on every sliver section she found helped the red stand out more too. Section it all off so she could make it wasn’t all choppy. sure it be clear it was a home dye job but she was determined to make it look nice as can be.

"See now you an' I can match even more be like we did it on purpose, oh! I can get a mask and we can take photos together like that too!" Summer has been chatting away and away with Casey well they waited for the dye to process before having to wash it out. "Ya should let me borrow more of your clothes then we can go all put on the twinsy" Summer contuined on to talk and talk. Things she normal would hate and cringe and calling embrassing, but Casey wasn't talking, so if she kept talking, maybe he would?

Hearing the sound of the window opening had her moving over to peek over towards Raphael climbing on through the window. "Aw popd ya back too soon." She fakes a pout but gestures him to come over anyway. He'll tease Casey like always and Dad will be a bitch back. "Check it out pops!" Summer says presenting Casey to Rapphel soon moving to sit next to Casey on the floor. "Ain't done yet but once he's done well be all matching with red." She beams woth taking out her phone and holding it up to take a picture of the two of them together. "It'll look betta once done." Summer contuines on chatting away pretending not to notice.

Not to notice Casey not talking, and to not notice that Raphael seemed just as concerned himself. When he didn't out right tease Casey for doing this. Raph walked over slowly pulling over a chair from the kitchen table to sit near the two of them.

"Jeez she talk ya into it 'hat easy?" Raphael finally spoke up. And summer tried to not notice the lack of a response to follow. Raph went and slightly nudged Casey with his leg. Casey saying something thought he try it out but there's not really emotion to the words. Summer dose risk a look up towards Raphael who share her stare a moment before he jist slams his hands to Casey's shoulders. Playfully rocking Casey back and forth. "Ya know ya too old for that Case, trying to act younger now?" He teases just faintly.

Summer hopes it's enough for at least an annoyed expression. She really wishes grandma could have stuck around just a bit longer, for her Dad at least.

Dine-in dimsum @ Emperor’s Palace feat. hiking photos

Recently went for a hike near the beginning of the staycation. .. Here are some pictures!

After the hike, we went to Emperor’s Palace for dimsum. I was starving despite having a large breakfast :P This was my 1st dimsum outing since the pandemic. I’ve been wondering what restaurants did with the dimsum carts. On the day we came, which was a Tuesday, they did not have the dimsum carts around. Simply by order form/check box sheet. Bcos I don’t frequent this place often, I don’t know what they did before the pandemic. Pretty sure this was my 2nd dimsum experience here.

Anyway, onto the food~ I managed to take pics of MOST items, so here they are.

The classics - pork dumplings & shrimp dumplings. They were huge! But also they were pricey! The shrimp dumplings were $2/each =/ Yikesssss... ! Is this the market price for shrimp dumplings nowadays???? The dish was $7.95. I liked both but personally liked the shrimp dumplings more. The pork dumplings. .. diff places have their own flavour/ingredients for the filling. I prefer the ones that my mom gets- it’s from a ‘wholesale’ type of place that supplies frozen spring rolls & some dimsum items to dining establishments. I sorta grew up eating those & they’re so good! I think these ones here at Emperor’s lack the fatty pork that I like. I know it’s gross but this one was mostly lean pork so texturally, it’s just not the same. & the flavour isn’t as good - ie: ‘weak’ MSG lol!

Fried taro dumpling & shrimp rice rolls. I didn’t care so much for the taro dumplings. I was never a fan growing up; I’ll eat it but it’s more for the “have a piece of each” type of mentality for variation. The shrimp rolls were alright. Perhaps bcos we came at a slightly after-dimsum hour ~1pm, the rice roll portion felt slightly old (& thus slightly hard). It’s not as soft as it should be.

I ordered this mainly for myself bcos I love curry squid! Such a rip-off bcos there were so few pieces in it. Nvm the appearance, there was just so little quantity. Taste was good though!

Also a rip-off for what.. . almost $13, I think? For 8 VERY small & soup-less Shanghai dumplings, aka xiao long bao. If you didn’t know. .. this particular type of dumplings is known for the burning hot soup that’s inside the bouncy skin dumpling. The insides were dry & no soup. Tbh, I think store-bought frozen dumplings are probably better. The filling was meh & little quantity as well.

Deep fried shrimp wontons. This place is very generous with their shrimps, I tell you! I loved these. The picture speaks for itself - golden exterior & loads of minced + large pieces of shrimp inside.

My FAV: the XO sauce pan-fried daikon cake. This has gotten smaller in size. ... . significantly. This was $13.95 o_O super tasty but. .. really not worth the price.

So that was my 1st dimsum outing experience in over 3 yrs. BYE!

大家好! Feeling a little more recharged, I took 4 new photos. It's a far cry from the usual 16 - 20, but better than at the start of the block leave; I was exhausted at the time and didn't feel up to it. Moving onto the catch up with LL, I'd asked her to recommend somewhere for authentic ma la when we caught up and she ended up taking me to.......... the same place I went to for ma la tang! 😅 We shared 2 hot and spicy bowls of goodness.

Where I was most excited to visit was a food hall at a local supermarket, similar to Meidi Ya and Donki. Emboldened by my first bus ride in 20 years which I detailed in the last post, I got on another bus to the mall where this food hall is situated. After alighting, I got lost because there was construction in that area and many of the walkways were boarded up 😅 After several twists and turns, I finally made it into the mall! It was quiet on Monday before noon, just how I like it.

Onto the brightly lit, organised and very clean food hall, which rivals Meidi Ya and Donki for a pleasant no-frills dining experience. I headed straight for the small selection of sashimi and sushi, paid for my meal and sat down at a bench to eat. The fish was very fresh and they didn't stinge on the salmon, plus the price was quite reasonable at $24.75 for the meal. I'll visit again probably early next year when I clear the 5 days of leave which I carried forward to 2023. Off for some local coffee!

Sitting at the brightly lit cafe with gorgeous art and cheerful colours, I reflected on 2022. I had a massive burnout this year and it wasn't fun. Girly catch ups with YL and Grace were called off because I was still too mentally exhausted to talk up a storm. Plenty of rest and focusing on leisurely activities I love partially restored very depleted energy levels. Whilst not totally back to my old self, I was able to meet Mrs T for long xia yi mian (lobster noodles) and dimsum.

2022 has been challenging so fingers crossed that 2023 will be better. I'll share about seeing Mrs T again and, also, she shared with me how to estimate my transport costs. I didn't know that hopping onto public transport can be so affordable whilst I'm having fun supporting our government's push towards green living! More about that in the next post. 下次见!

i had come back from asia, it was a month long trip. i remember feeling excited because mike was finally moving back to Toronto. after 1 brutal year of commuting every other weekend, he was back. i remember him looking for a new job. i remember moving to random places with him to live. and then i remember randomly one day or one night he turned to me and said he wanted to break up, and i remember the walls coming down in that room. i remember begging him not to, i remember asking why. i remember letting him still stay with me until he found a new place. i remember running one time from dundas and spadina home because i didn’t want to miss him. he was a couple of blocks away on the phone. i remember getting dumplings with him weirdly, i remember not letting him leave and he said he’d call the police haha. i remember when this all happened i had just had dimsum with his mom. i remember his mom comforting me and i was confused.

i remember working at the ex and i remember how low i felt, crying washing the dishes, crying when i was home. i remember taking that edible and fucking myself up. i remember seeing angelique and she told me he had someone new, i remember finding out he was bringing her to the ex. i remember wanting so bad to run out and seeing who it was. i remember then trying to wish him the best, thinking that i just wanted him to be happy. i remember sobbing at dundas square. i remember that bus ride i had where i found lilsitu’s instagram, i remember the photos she posted. i remember how one of them was dated when we were supposed to be together. i remember calling him and confronting him about cheating.

i remember meeting with him again, and this is after i think i found out they moved in together. i remember asking him to leave her, obviously he said no. i remember drunk calling him after one of these dates i had.

and i think that was the last time we spoke. i think i had sent a really long text and left it off there. i think about all that now and it doesn’t mean anything. i mean i guess i just feel sorry for myself, for the pain and anguish i went through but there’s no more hurt and however mike thinks of me now, if he ever does, i dont care if he thought i was great or not.

i hope one of these days i can feel the same about alex. i hope i can look back and it was just a story that came to an end. i hope i look back and feel nothing towards him, not love, not sadness, no pain.

My voyage in Paris

We came to Paris on July 7 and have been doing many things here. On the first day we came, we had food at a neighborhood that looked like Marseille. We had dinner at Master Poulet. We also had a waffle and milk tea at the nearby Pearls and waffles. Walking through this neighborhood made me feel like I was in Marseille.

On the next day, we went to the Quartier Asiatique. We tried some Asian food from this neighborhood. We walked to the Place d’Italie. We passed by a coffee and tea cafe called T.Kawa, and we stopped to get some unique coffees from them. It was only one euro. I was thinking about a quotation that could apply to learning languages. It was about keeping questions in your mind so that you can find the answers to them later. I think that quotation applies well to learning a certain word or certain phrase in another language. After the Quartier Asiatique, we walked to the Place d’Italie. Then, we decided to visit the Sorbonne. We found two campuses for the Sorbonne. We went to the main campus that has the iconic building. Then, I needed to head back to have my tutoring classes.

I have a note about Wifi in England and France. It is very easy to find wifi everywhere. Most shops or cafes that have wifi just require you to give them your email, and then you can connect to the wifi for free.

On the next day, we went to the Sacré Coeur. To get to the subway, we took the avenue d’Ivry to there. We arrived at the station nearby but had to walk up to the Sacre Coeur. We had lunch at a dimsum Chinese place.

On our last full day in Paris, we went to a restaurant near the Louvre to eat lunch.

jkt-bdg trip

I've told you I wanted him to come here so we could be together 24/7

he did.

he had a workshop to attend at BDG for 3 day till 25 June, then in the evening he went by shuttle to JKT, stayed at my room. his intention was to attend GRII church.

26 June - I woke up first. he's quite hard to got up the bed. after church, we roamed around the church, went back to my "dorm" cause I have deadline. in the evening he went back to BDG

27 June - I had my final thesis exam. he in BDG had a task to met "the final boss". it went well for him, thank God. and I "temporary" passed the exam. still had alot of revision. at 1 pm booked a shuttle for 5 pm going to BDG to meet my qt. arrived at his hotel, he was still with his uncle but not more than 5mnts he's arrived already. went to his room. then we planned to watch movie Everything Everywhere All at Once at 23paskal at 21.30. after that went back to hotel, clean ourselves and slept.

28 June - I woke up 4 am cause I could hear the next room's alarm. Samuel didn't wake up. after few minutes the alarm still going. it was just vibration but I could heard it so clear. tried to sleep again. woke up at around 5 am idk why but opened my eyes samuel just wokeup winding his shirt cause he felt hot. closed my eyes for 5 mnts and opened again, saw him picturing me with his phone. but I couldn't care less, couldn't open my eyes and talked, so sleepy. so i went back to sleep. woke up at 5.30 am. couldn't sleep again till day. got bored waiting for him to wake up. after waking up, we decided to go to nearest dimsum place for breakfast then went to circleK for mineral water. after that went back to hotel. samuel had food coma so he slept, i wasn't food coma or sleepy, but i know if i slept i won't be woke up soon cause i didn't had enough sleep. just how my body works. and yes, we both slept from 12 pm and i woke up at 4 pm :) he didn't wake me up. he said he watched youtube with high volume to woke me up but it won't work for me. i woke up cause my mom called me. after that we went to pvj for ice skating, in which he actually kinda good and i was just keep falling and injured lol

before ice skate, i brought a sweater from uniqlo to protect my arm and elbow if i fell, ate at kfc, then skate. after skating, we went back to hotel. we ordered takeawa capcay, white rice, and crispy fried squid while planning our activity for the next day.
