cry of mann thoughts/analysis so far, pre-finale

idk exactly what cry of mann is about but as I’ve been watching here’s what I’ve been thinking: possibly about WWI/industrial revolution? also need to look up when phones were invented because that might explain their confusion about it. “The War” sounds very WWI-ish. Because their last names are Mann, I feel like it means that they’re metaphors for some part of mankind, pretty obvious after Gergiev’s speech about destroying “Mann”.

Jouglat obviously being a soldier, Courtney being something to do with industry, invested in keeping the war going, Jack being…. I don’t know, an artist obviously idk what he really means about the world, if anything. Tank Mann possibly being a god figure, patriarch who leaves after creating trains, meaning creating something industrial that changes the face of the world (guilty absent god?). Gergiev is a devil created by industry/war, sees the evil of industrial revolution and decides humanity/”Mann” should be destroyed. possibly why it’s Twin Peaksy since David Lynch have dealt with similar themes. Frank is Faustian character idk what else.

calls into question whether Tank Mann or Gergiev are truly all good or all evil? their confrontation will probably be final confrontation but who knows? we’ll see. I’ll edit this post-finale. oh also argument for WWI is also stronger because tanks came into military use in WWI. 

issues with this idea though is that WWI began in 1914, first steam powered railroad journey took place in 1804, industrial revolution was about 1760-1840. oopsie :)

i’ll revise this later. i also wanna read what other people’s theories/meta are. i have some other more disjointed thoughts but i’ll add later maybe after the finale
