Trilobozoans (also known as triradialomorphs) are some of the more enigmatic members of the Ediacaran biota. In the past their unique three-way-symmetrical body plan was interpreted as linking them to groups like sponges, cnidarians, or echinoderms, but currently they're considered to be their own weird little phylum with uncertain evolutionary affinities, classified no more specifically than "probably some sort of early eumetazoan animal".

Lobodiscus tribrachialis is a newly-described member of this mysterious lineage. It lived in warm shallow marine waters covering what is now Southwestern China, and with an age of around 546 million years it's currently the youngest known trilobozoan, extending the group's time range by several million years.

About 3.7cm in diameter (~1.5"), it had the characteristic trilobozoan disc-shaped shield-like body, with a central depression surrounded by three triradially-symmetric lobes with branching ridges and grooves.

Its body would have been soft but fairly rigid, and it's not clear if it was capable of moving over the seafloor or if it had a more static lifestyle. Like its relative Tribrachidium it was probably a filter feeder, with the grooves on its surface directing water flow towards the central depression – and this surface ornamentation may also have been covered with cilia that actively caught and transported suspended food particles.

High Contract Rates

This exhibition is fairly successful since many exhibitors received new orders on the first day, and the incessant orders were witnessed in the follow-up two days. The overall satisfaction of the exhibitor is rather high, and even large booths were preordered.

Many exhibitors told us that the ITCPE is an expert stage and they harvest fruitful contracts. They praised that it is an established exhibition; hence, they get lots of new orders, and they will continue to be the attending companies.

Steamed pot chicken with herbs 土锅鸡 - tu guo ji I ate this at a restaurant named 江川三道菜 - Jiang chuan san dao cai (3 dishes of jiangchuan) which is a popular place with a few restaurants around Kunming. Underwater City: Unveiling The Secrets At The Bottom Of Fuxian Lake

A mystery lies scattered on the unexplored bottom of Fuxian Lake, stretching out through Chengjiang County, Jiangchuan County and Huaning County in Yunnan Province, about 60 kilometers to Kunming City, China. The lake is rising 1,720 meters above sea level and encompassing 212 square kilometers of land.

The deepest part of the lake descends 157 meters; the Fuxian Lake is the second deepest freshwater lake in China.

One day, Geng Wei, a specialized diver, accidentally found a strange phenomenon under the lake, in form of stone materials including flagstones and stone strips with thick moss above them, could be seen.

According to an ancient local legend, a city-like silhouette under the lake from the nearby mountains can be clearly seen on a fine, calm day. To find out if there is something hidden in the calm waters of the lake, a Chinese submarine archaeology team stationed in Fuxian Lake carried on surveys and with advanced use of detectors, discovered lots of blocks scattered on the lake bottom, stones that formed a wall seen on a sonar display along with various flagstones.

High stairs appeared in front of them and flagstones covered with moss seemed to reveal an ancient sunken city. The team members found the scope of the site under Fuxian Lake was extremely big, and the traces of construction were everywhere along with earthenware.

Could the underwater site be the ancient city of Yuyuan, which disappeared mysteriously many hundreds of years ago?

Was the site under the lake the city recorded in The Book of Han (Hanshu), a classic Chinese historical writing covering the history of the Western Han Dynasty, 206 BCE-9 CE, that once recorded that Yuyuan City was north of Fuxian Lake?

After several days of observation, sonar scans and analyses, experts estimated the scope of the area is between 2.4 square kilometers to 2.7 square kilometers, and the site was possibly from the Warring States (475-221 BC) to the Eastern Han Dynasty. However, in order to find a more exact time, they had to find a subject that could be used for carbon 14 testing.

Additionally as reported, eight main buildings were found all under the water, including a round, colosseum-like building with a 37 meter wide base and a gap to the northeast and two large high buildings with floors, similar to the Mayan pyramids. One of the large, high buildings has three floors, a 60 meter wide base and lots of small steps linking the floors. Another is even larger, with a 63 meter wide base standing five floors (totally 21 meters high). A 300 meter long and 5 to 7 meter wide rock road connects the two buildings.

Carbon-14 dating of some shells attached to blocks they were 1750 years old, which means the site sunk during the Han period. However in the Tang Dynasty, there were still records about Yuyuan City remaining on land.

Therefore, the lost city was not Yuyuan, but rather the ancient unidentified structure of the under-lake construction, could represent the remains of the ancient Dian Country – a country with a high level of civilization that after 86 BC – mysteriously disappeared.

Fuxian Lake is a very large body of water – is still unexplored, so various legends have prevailed for more than 1,000 years and unfortunately their credibility cannot be confirmed.

According to one story mentioned in “Cheng Jang Fu Zhi”, a book in the region of Emperor Daoguang, a horse-like animal lived in the lake. Its body was pure white with red spots on its back. Sometimes it rapidly flew out of the water. Was this strange animal perhaps a vehicle which modern ufologists today call – uso (unidentified submerged object)?

China starts favourite, India as underdog, in Nations Cup

Even as sports activities await resumption post-COVID-19 pandemic, chess is the only discipline where all the leading players continue to make their moves in online prize-money events.

The much-followed $250,000 Magnus Carlsen Invitational ended on Sunday with the World champion winning his signature event and collecting $70,000 in the richest prize-money online competition.

From Tuesday, the richest online team tournament begins with the FIDE Chess.com online Nations Cup. Barring Carlsen, almost all the leading men and women players from four countries, one continent and a “Rest of the World” combination will be on view.

India, seeded five, will be a rank outsider despite fielding its strongest possible combination of Viswanathan Anand, Vidit Gujrathi, P. Harikrishna, B. Adhiban, K. Humpy and D. Harika. The presence of former World champion Vladimir Kramnik as an advisor to the Indian camp brings in some added interest in the team’s progress.

In the words of Vidit, “When the world of sports has stopped, it’s great that an event of such a magnitude is taking place. I have immense respect for Kramnik, and it will be great to work together! The field is extremely strong so it’s not going to be easy at all. We could be the underdogs.”

China is an obvious favourite but given the format, any team looks capable of upstaging higher seeded rivals.

The event follows the double round-robin format, with the two leading teams battling for the title in the “Superfinal.”

All matches involve four boards, represented by three men and a women player. The rapid time-control is 25-minutes plus 10-second increment per move.

China, the rating favourite, with Ding Liren, Wang Hao and Wei Yi, also gains from the presence of Hou Yifan, the strongest woman player in the world. With Yu Yangyi and Women world champion Ju Wenjun as reserves, China clearly has the strength to go all the way.

Second seed Europe has Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Levon Aronian and Anish Giri as the three leading men along with Anna Muzychuk on the fourth board. Garry Kasparov is back in the mix as the captain. Aronian returns to his first competition after the death of wife Arianne Caoili in a car crash in March.

Vachier said, “I’m very excited for the tournament and to lead team Europe. Obviously, I’m also very happy to see Levon return to play and hope we put a great performance.”

Russia will rely on the flamboyance of Ian Nepomniachtchi, the speed-chess skills of Vladislav Artemiev and the experience of Sergey Karjakin, with Aleksandra Goryachkina being the top woman.

But USA begins as the proverbial “dark horse” with Fabiano Caruana, Hikaru Nakamura, Wesley So and Irina Krush forming an intimidating combination.

The Rest of the World has the potential to slow down any serious title-contender. Teimour Radjabov, 16-year-old sensation Alireza Firouzja, Baseem Amin along with former World women champion Mariya Muzychuk can be expected to cause a few upsets.

As Radjabov said, “It’s a try, an opportunity for online chess. Certainly, it’s different than over-the-board chess. But in this situation, we have to try our best and have some chess events online, of this scale. See how it plays out. Generally, it’s very exciting.”
