This is pretty minor but I really appreciate that Star Trek Lower Decks has an explicitly queer lead with a canon girlfriend. I also appreciate that while her relationship isn't a major focus of the show, several episodes explore the relationship with no room for misinterpretation, as well as discussing things like her commitment issues. Older Star Trek shows have had queer main characters, Jadzia Dax comes to mind with her on-screen kiss, but it was rarely more than single-episode affairs or minor mentions. The consistent relationship is very refreshing. Lower Decks might get away with more because it's seen as a smaller series.

An episode where Mariner has to make a life or death command decision as a lieutenant and ends up having a break down where we finally get the full story of What Her Deal Is and what her trauma block is in terms of moving up in rank (bonus points if Ransom is the one who helps her work through this)

A B plot where Rutherford is jealous of Tendi and T'Lyn's friendship

A confrontation between Mariner and Jen where it becomes abundantly clear that Mariner is not actually over the whole Star Base 80 situation, but she's so worried about losing her friends and mom again that she's taking all of her frustration out on Jen instead
