"So I've seen people complain about the popularity of non-canon ships (Spirk, Garashir, Marinler, etc.), saying "why can't shippers accept that those two are just friends and will always be just friends?"

Well, let me tell you that if the two actors' characters share more chemistry with each other than with their canon love interest(s), then people are gonna ship it. If the two characters share lots of scenes together in the show (and also in tie-in media like games and comics) then people are also gonna ship it because it gives shippers more content for fanfics and fanart. Very few people are gonna be interested in one-episode canon crushes.

I think a lot of people complaining about the shipping of non-canon ships are completely missing the fact that the point of shipping is not to win a competition, but to just have fun (though being canon is always a nice bonus ngl). Also, and I'm not saying all detractors of these popular non-canon ships are like this, but I wonder if there'd be less demands for platonic relationships in popular ships (which also already exist in less popular ships too btw) if both members of said non-canon ships were both white and/or m/f pairings. Just my two cents.🖖"

"r/lowerdecks is a fun subreddit for the most part, but I'm pretty confused about all this talk about rabid marinler shippers on the subreddit. Because from I've seen, whenever a marinler shipper posts their fanart or promotes their zine, they're met with rude comments condescendingly telling them that they need to accept that mariner and Boimler will only be friends, totally missing the point that shipping is for fun not competing for canon. Hypocritically, the same "you need to accept them as just friends" argument is never for other main character ships like tendiford and boi'lyn. (I've also seen some ppl use the "just friends" argument against t'lyndi and mari'lyn which also rubs me the wrong way.) I feel like I'm being gaslit by the subreddit."

I am decidedly neutral on the topic of Beckett Mariner's romantic life, to the point where I could not care less about who she ends up with (if anybody) as long as she's happy...

but the concept of her ending up with Boimler of all people after the string of hotties and badasses she's managed to ensnare is objectively funny, and it gets funnier the wider your definition of 'ensnare' gets.

Amina Ramsey, Jennifer Sh'reyan, Jack Ransom, T'lyn (arguable but I like the idea), a string of bad boys, girls, nonbinary babes, and Bynars... and she goes for the raisin boy with the sand allergy.

Not me trying to stop being upset about how little Boimler and Mariner interaction we got in season 4 of Lower Decks by reminding myself how little we Plance shippers survived on in the VLD days.

Honestly Marinler is such a peak example of all the tropes tumblr loves in a couple and you KNOW if they were an m/m paring this site would be ALL over them. Y'all gotta open yourselves up a little you're missing out on one of the best annoyances to lovers ships in modern television.

Okay, I know they haven't gotten a lot of on screen interaction this season, but Mariner literally talks to other characters about Boimler every chance she gets. Like "Oh he grew a mustache once. Hey check out this selfie he sent me. Ugh I have to get away from Brad and his new boyfriend, they're so annoying." Girl you are not subtle.

I don't necessarily think Marinler should be Lower Decks' end game but if it is they absolutely better have them confess to each other with a "Beckett you almost make me believe in luck" "Bradward you almost make me believe in miracles" type situation

hi! i think it's time for star trek and animation fans to unite once more, because paramount+ has chosen to remove star trek: prodigy from its library as a tax write-off. lucky for star trek fans, star trek is a 57 year old IP with fans all around the world, so we're hoping as much support as possible will get the show saved, since paramount is planing to sell the show to other streaming services! please consider watching prodigy (illegally if you must, since it was removed from p+ by now) and spread the word for support, it's a real gem of a show! #savestartrekprodigy

Can you recommend any Marinler oriented Lower Decks discord servers? Or is there a good space for Marinler on the Lower Decks fan discord you have pinned? I see a lot of Marinler hate, and I don't have the bandwidth to engage with that in Lower Decks spaces.

The main Lower Decks discord server (the one at discord.gg/lowerdecks) is pretty much the online capital of Marinler! It has the largest shipping channel and lots of content that never got posted anywhere else.

I wouldn't be recommending it on my blog otherwise.
