By the time you got home that morning, you were completely exhausted. You dropped your bag by the front door, not caring where it landed. Then your boots followed quickly after, just like your bag not caring where they ended up. Walking over and throwing yourself over the back of the couch, pulling the blanket down over you as you went. You just let the couch swallow you up. As you were on the cusp of falling asleep, your phone starts going off. You shift to pull your phone out of your pocket, looking at the screen before answering it.
“You better be dying or dead.”
“Well good morning to you too Sunshine.”
“Jamie, it’s not a good time right now.” You let out a sigh. “What did you need?”
“I was going to see if you wanted to get breakfast before both of us went to work. I also wanted to see how the night shift went.”
“Oh, it was great.” Sarcasm was dripping from your mouth.
“Wow. Really?”
“Well, if you call getting myself suspended great, then I had a grand ol’ time.”
“Wait, are you serious?”
“Jamie, I’m tired and I don’t want to talk about this right now.”
“Well either you come with me to breakfast willingly, or I will come into your house and drag your ass out kicking and screaming. What’s it gonna be?”
“I hate you, and I want my key back.”
“I know you do. Yeah, good luck getting the key from me, you will have to pry it from my cold dead hands.” He let out a laugh. “I’ll be there in about five minutes to get you. So, hurry up.”
You hung up the phone, grunting as you got up from your couch and throwing your blanket down. You quickly went to your room to change out of your work clothes. You knew Jamie wasn’t joking when he said he would drag you out. He has done it before; he will do it again. You changed into a pair of joggers and a FDNY shirt just to mess with him. You were pulling on your socks when you heard your front door open and Jamie yelling.
“Y/n!” There was a slight pause, before you heard him stumble and curse. “Son of a bitch. Y/n, why didn’t you pick up your damn shoes. Y/n! Don’t make me have to come find you.”
You just laid back on your bed, closing your eyes and rubbing your hands over your face. You heard footsteps heading towards your room, they stopped in your doorway for a second before they came to a stop in front of you.
“You are not wearing that to breakfast.”
You open up your eyes to see him pointing to your shirt. You just closed your eyes and let out another sigh.
“Then I’m not going.” You crossed your arms like a child who was pouting.
You heard him walk away for a second, thinking you had won. Which was a short-lived dream when he came back, he pulled you up into a sitting position, causing you to let out a squeal and open your eyes. Only to have him pulling a hoodie over your head.
“Jamison! Stop it!” You struggled against him, to no avail. Once it was on you looked up at him, with an angry pout. “I am not a child.”
“Then quit acting like one.” He laughed at you.
You stood up and walked out of your room towards the front door. As you did, you looked down at the hoodie. It was Jamie’s old Harvard sweater that he got when he had gotten accepted. He lent it to you one day when you forgot your jacket, and it just never found its way back to him. He never asked for it back, so you just held onto it. At this point if he did ask for it back you wouldn’t be able to give it back.
The two of you left your house and got into Jamie’s car. There wasn’t much conversation, just comfortable silence. You were tired enough that you had started dozing off on the way. Once he pulled up to the curb of your favorite breakfast spot you were completely out. Jamie got out and walked to the passenger side door, slowly opening it not to wake you.
After all of these years, you really should have known better than to fall asleep around Jamie or any of the Reagan siblings for that matter. Jamie leaned in slightly and started screaming and shaking you. Your eyes shot open, screaming yourself. You looked over to see Jamie laughing so hard as you are clutching your chest.
“You’re an ass.”
“Oh, that was so funny.” He got out in between laughs.
He was hunched over with his hands on his knees, not caring that there was quite a few people staring at you. You got out of the car and pushed Jamie, knocking him on his ass.
“Hey!” You stood there just looking down at him. “You just assaulted a police officer ma’am.” He was up in a second.
“You have been a police officer all of two seconds.” You cocked your eyebrow at him. “Besides you wouldn’t arrest your best friend.”
“Are you sure about that?” He was right in your face, trying so hard not to smile.
“Yep.”
“How so?”
“I have friends in high and low places buddy. You don’t want to mess with me.”
“You’re such a dork.” He smile breaking out along with a chuckle. “Come on, let’s go eat and talk about how you got suspended.” He threw his arm over your shoulder as he pulled you into the diner.
Diana greeted you as you both walked into the diner.
“If it isn’t my two favorite troublemakers.” She had a big grin on her face.
“I’m not the troublemaker, she is.” Jamie pointed at you as the two of you sat down.
“What? I am not. You are a hundred percent the troublemaker out of the two of us.”
“No, you are. I’m not the one who got suspended.” He had a big grin on his face.
“What!?”
You gave Jamie the dirtiest look you have ever given anyone. You could feel her eyes starring you down, and it is not a feeling you want to have. Ever since you were young, Diana has been a big part of your lives. The two of you would come in here quite a bit with your families or even just each other. She practically watched the both of you grow up.
“Dude. Why would you say that in front of her?” You whispered harshly. Your eyes haven’t left Jamie’s, in fear of what would happen if you looked over to Diana.
“Y/n, what happened?” You looked up at her slowly, with a shy grin on your face.
“I punched another paramedic in the face.” You said quietly before looking down. “Then I slammed him into the back door of the truck.”
“Woah! What did he do to piss you off?”
“Why would you do that?” She asked while hitting you in the arm.
“Ow! We had a call for a car accident right at the end of our shift. He wanted to take a child away from his mother right after it all happened. He was going to traumatize that poor kid. Then he had the audacity to bring up my mother, then I flipped out on him. I punched him in the face and slammed him up against the back of the truck. Then I got suspended, and I can’t return to work until I take an anger management class.”
“Well then he deserved it.” Diana put her hand on your shoulder. “You don’t do that to a child, and you sure as hell don’t bring up someone’s past trauma.”
“What’s going to happen to him?” Jamie questioned you.
“Tyler texted me earlier saying that he was suspended for a day or some bullshit like that. I don’t know, I’m just hoping I never have to work with him again.”
“That is stupid, he should have to take a class on how to be a decent human.”
“That is absolute bullshit.” Jamie rubbed his hands down his face.
“Yeah, but it is what it is.” You just shrugged. “Can’t take it back now. Then again, I don’t think I would if I could.”
After that, Diana took your order and left the two of you to talk. The two of you sat there for just over an hour, before Jamie had to head into work. After paying and saying a quick goodbye to Diana, the two of you left. Jamie walked around to the driver-side of his car, while you looked around at the busy street. Somehow you aren’t as tired as you were before. You need to clear your head on the early morning events, and there was really only one place you could do that.
“Hey, I think I’m gonna walk.”
“What? Y/n you look like you’re going to pass out. I’m not gonna let you walk home.” He gave you a look like you were crazy.
“I’m fine Jamie. Plus, I’m not going home just yet.”
“Where are you going?” He came back around and stopped in front of you.
“I need to think for a little while, so I’m gonna go visit my mom.” Jamie quickly pulled you into a tight hug.
“What’s going on in that head of yours?”
“I don’t know, I just need to talk to her.” You stood there for a moment longer before you broke the hug.
“Alright, come on. Go to work.”
“I can drop you off.”
“No, I’ll be fine. Besides, you don’t want to be late on your first day, do you?”
“No, I don’t.” He looked at you, with his signature smirk.
“What?”
“Nothing. Look, text me when you get there and…”
“And when I leave, and then when I get home. Ya’ know sometimes it’s like she’s still alive and is just using you as a vessel to make sure I’m okay.”
“Hey, I’m not that bad.” He looked at you like he was a little offended. “I just want you to be safe, I would still be doing this if she was still here.”
“I know. You have been protecting me since we were seventeen. Hell, maybe even before that and I was just too stubborn to notice.”
“Yeah, you were.”
“Hey!” You went to hit him in the arm, he was quickly able to dodge your hand before it made contact. He moved to the front of his car. “Get out of here, before I personally call the commissioner and tell him that one of his officers is causing as scene instead of going into work.”
“You wouldn’t.” He narrowed his eyes at you.
“Try me.” You pulled your phone out of your pocket, holding it up and waving it back and forth.
“Umm… Y/n?”
He pointed to your phone; you gave him a confused look before looking at your phone.
“Speak of the devil.”
You quickly looked back at him before answering.
“Hello, Commissioner Reagan.”
“Y/n, we have talked about this. Call me Frank.”
“Sorry Frank, how are you?”
“I am doing good. How are you?”
“Funny you should ask because I was just talking about you.”
“Oh, to who?”
“One of your officers, who is bound to be late for his first day of work if he doesn’t leave me alone.” You had a smirk on your face, while Jamie gave you an annoyed look.
“Can you hand the phone to Officer Reagan.”
“Sure.” You walked over to Jamie. “He would like to talk to you.”
He slowly took the phone and put it to his ear.
“Hello.”
You watched as the conversation unfolded. Jamie was just nodding his head and saying “Yes, Sir.” Soon he handed you the phone back.
“I have to go brat. Text me, call me if you need anything, okay?” He pulled you into another quick hug before heading to get into his car.
“I will. Bye.”
“Bye.”
Once he was gone, you quickly turned your attention to your phone.
“So, what’s going on Frank?”
“Well, I was just wondering how you were doing this morning.”
“You talked to Rourke didn’t you.”
“I may have.” You rolled your eyes.
“Frank, I really don’t want to get into this. I’m sure you got all of this information from Rourke but, Ryan pissed me off and now I’m suspended until I take an anger management class. It happened and now I have to deal with the consequences of my actions.”
“I know what happened, I’m still wondering how you are doing. Which you still haven’t answered by the way.”
“I’m fine.”
“Y/n, I have known you long enough to know when you aren’t telling me the truth.”
“Frank, I appreciate you checking up on me, but I am not one of your kids that you have to check up on when something pops up, okay. I’m a big girl, I can take care of myself. I have been doing that for a long time, longer than you probably realize.”
“I know that. You are a strong person. I just…” You cut him off.
“I have to go. I have things that I have to deal with. I will talk to you later.”
“Okay. Bye kiddo.”
As soon as you hung up the phone, you felt like a complete ass. Frank has been there for you more times than you could count. He was just being the friend to you that he always has been. This is the man that helped you get through things when your own father couldn’t. He welcomed you into his home and his family all those years ago and you just threw it back in his face.
“Fuck.”
You haled a cab, then you made your way to the cemetery. When you found your mom, you sat down next to her. You pulled your legs up and wrapped your arms around them. You just sat there for a little while not speaking.
“Hi mom. I really fucked up big this time. I got suspended because some jackass decided that it would be a clever idea to take a child away from his mother right after a car accident. He also brought up you and I lost it on him. I’m honestly surprised that I held back. Then I got a call from Frank, he was just trying to check up on me and I took it out on him. I know I shouldn’t have but I did.”
You had tears forming in your eyes, threatening to fall at any second. You looked up to the sky, before leaning back to lay on the grass. You laid there for a little while just talking to her about other things that were going on. You also tried to figure out a way to apologize to Frank. After a few hours of sitting there, you said your goodbyes to her and got up and went to get another cab.
You had the cab drop you off at a store, so you could pick up the ingredients for your mother’s cheesecake, that you know Frank loves. When you got everything home, you got to work. After it was finished baking, you let it cool while you lay down on the couch to take a long-awaited nap.
When you woke up you had quite a few missed calls and unread text messages. Most of them were from Jamie, which you should have expected since you didn’t text him when you got to or left the cemetery. There was also a couple of missed calls from your father and a text from Erin.
You decided to get the more unpleasant phone call over with first.
“Hello?”
“Hi dad.”
“You wanna tell me what the hell is going on?”
“Excuse you?”
“Y/n, what did you do at work?”
“Ya’know, I had a shitty night, thanks for asking.”
“Seriously, that’s how you’re gonna act right now?
“What do you want me to say? Huh. Do you want me to tell you that I got suspended because some asshole thought it was a good idea to traumatize a child, then bring up my past trauma because he fucking felt like it? Is that what you wanted to hear?”
You were met with silence, which didn’t surprise you at all. Ever since you mother died, he has only ever called to complain or yell at you.
“Y/n…”
“Don’t. Don’t even pretend that you care. I know where I stand in your life. I wasn’t able to help or save mom and now you blame me every chance you can for her death. So why don’t you just stop pretending to care about me. You leave me alone; I will leave you alone.” You hung up the phone, not wanting to deal with him anymore, the sad part is that no matter what if he needed help and called you. You would be there for him, even after all the shit he put you through.
You sent a quick text to Erin, saying:
Y: Sorry Erin. I had a rough night; I was sleeping it off when you texted me. I’m doing okay now. Thanks for checking up on me.
Then you texted Jamie.
Y: Sorry, I’m home and I fell asleep.
J: That’s it…
You have been MIA for five hours and all I get is I fell asleep.
Y: Jamie please don’t do this right now. I already feel like crap. Please don’t make it worse.
Instead of getting a text back, Jamie’s face popped up on your phone. You stared at it for a second before picking it up. You stayed quiet and waited for him to talk first.
“Are you okay? What happened? You seemed to be doing better at breakfast.”
“I’m an asshole, and I am so done with peoples shit.”
“You are not an asshole, and people are stupid.”
“Well, you’re only half wrong. People are stupid, but I am an asshole.”
“Why do you say that?”
“I took my anger out on one of the few people who actually care about me. When all they were doing was making sure I was okay.”
“Y/n you had a bad night, no one is going to hold that against you.”
“That’s not the point Jamie.” You let out a frustrated sigh. “I’m not really in the mood for this right now. I have things I have to get done. I will talk to you later.”
You hung up before he had a chance to talk. Throwing your phone onto the coffee table, ignoring the ringing. You got up and walk back to your kitchen. You pull the cheesecake out of the fridge, making sure it has fully set before wrapping it up to take over to Frank’s.
Before you decided to take it over there, there was a few things you needed to do. The main one being find an anger management class, so you could get it over and done with. Once you were all signed up, you put on some music and started cleaning.
It was about five when you decided to head over to Franks. When you got there you notice the extra vehicles that were there. You almost turned around, but luck wasn’t on your side today. The front door opened as you went to grab your trucks door handle.
“Y/n?”
You looked up to see Danny standing in the doorway. You looked down at your hand and just let it fall from the handle. You heard the door close and footsteps coming towards you. You turned to see Danny leaning on your truck.
“What’s going on slugger?”
“Oh God! Not you too.”
“Come on did you really expect to keep this quiet. Especially around here?” He pointed to the house. “Everyone’s in there talking about it.”
You were just hoping the ground would swallow you up, right there and then. You leaned forward leaning your forehead on the door frame and let out a big sigh.
“I wasn’t expecting everyone to be here when I showed up.” You turned your head to the side to look at him.
“I bet. Well, it’s too late to leave now.” He points to the house, you lifted your head off the truck and looked at the house to see Erin, Henry, Frank, and Jamie looking out the window.
“Of course, it is.” You gave them a quick wave. “Or… You could take this inside to your dad and let him know that I’m sorry and I will call him later.” You had a big smile on your face, as you lifted the cheesecake up into his line of sight.
“Not gonna happen.”
“Ugh.” You dropped the smile and lowered the cheesecake. “It was worth a shot.”
You walked past Danny as he laughed at your reaction. The two of you walked up to the door and it opened just as you got to the top step. Frank was standing there with a smile on his face. Danny slipped inside as you stood on the front step.
“Hi.” All of a sudden felt like you were the shy teenager you used to be all over again.
“Hi.” He just smiled at you. “So are you going to just stand there or are you going to come inside.”
“Actually, I came to apologize for today.”
“You don’t need to do that.”
“Yes, I do. I was a complete asshole to you, and you were just trying to look out for me. I took my anger and frustrations out on you. I am so sorry Frank. I know it won’t fix anything, but I made you this.” You lifted the cheesecake for him to take. “I know you like this one, it’s my mother’s recipe.”
He stepped out onto the step with you and took the cheesecake. What you didn’t expect was for him to pull you into a hug. It was one of those big bear hugs, which cradles your entire existence. The kind of hugs really only dads can give.
“Sweetheart, you have nothing to be sorry for. I know you had a difficult day at work. I shouldn’t have overstepped.”
“No, you didn’t overstep. I should feel so lucky to have someone like you to check on me. I was harsh on you, and you didn’t deserve that.” You pulled back to look at him. “Those hooligans in there don’t know how lucky they have a father that checks up on them when they had a bad day or just to see how life is going.” You pulled away from him as soon as you could feel the tears starting to prick at your eyes. “I should get going.” You started backing away.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
“Umm… Home?”
“Nope. You are going to come inside and enjoy a piece of this” He lifted up the cheesecake. “We will talk for a little while, then you can go home.”
“Frank, I really need to get home.”
“Ten minutes, fifteen tops.” He stepped inside the door. “Come on. You know I’m not going to take no for answer.”
“I… Okay.” You walked into the house, and you were greeted by all of the Reagans.
Turns out fifteen minutes actually means three hours in the Reagan world. You did try to leave a few times, but they somehow convinced you to stay. Now you are finally able to leave the house when Danny and Erin said they needed to head out. Quickly that turned into having a chat at your vehicles, then Jamie came out to leave as well.
“I thought all of you needed to get home.”
“We do, we were just saying goodbye.” Erin was the first to address him.
“Well, you’ve been standing out here for like twenty minutes. You don’t seem to be in a rush to me.”
“Has it really been twenty minutes?” You looked at your watch to see it have been. “Wow…”
“I guess that’s what happens when friends get together.”
Danny wrapped his arm around your shoulders and pulled you towards him. You already knew what was going to happen. You tried to get out of it but you were too slow. Next thing you know he had you in a head lock giving you a noggie.
“DANNY! Let me go!”
All while Erin and Jamie are jus laughing their asses off. You struggled against Danny for a little bit before his phone started going off.
“Aww, saved by the bell Y/n.”
“I hate you. This is why Erin is my favorite Reagan.” You started fixing your hair when Jamie spoke up.
“Hey! I thought I was your favorite.” He looked a little offended.
“Nope. After what you did this morning, you were demoted to fourth.”
“Fourth?! Who are the other two ahead of me?”
“Frank and Henry.” You started thinking about it. “Ya’ know you might actually be lower than fourth. I didn’t factor in Nikki, Linda, Jack, and Shawn. You might actually be like eighth. Butthead over there is nineth.” You pointed over to Danny who was still on the phone.
“Wow, after all I have done for you.” Jamie just shook his head; you shrugged your shoulders.
“It happens.”
Danny turns back to the group. “Alright, now I really have to go. I will see you all later.” He went around and gave you and Erin a hug and Jamie a pat on the shoulder before getting into his Jeep.
“I should be going to, I still need to pick up Nikki and make dinner.” Erin turned to you. “We should get lunch soon.”
“Yeah, I have some free time for the next couple of days. My anger management class isn’t until Friday.”
“Okay. How about Thursday?”
“Sounds like a plan.” You smiled as she stared walking to her car. “Bye.”
“Bye.”
You turned and unlocked your truck. When you opened the door and got in, Jamie had his hand on the top of the door to hold it open.
“You were joking when you said that Erin was your favorite right?”
“No.” You just looked at him with the straightest face you had.
“Really?”
“Why are you sad? Jealous? Angry even?”
“No, I just don’t believe you.”
“Well, believe what you want.” You were close to breaking.
“Y/n. I know you better than anyone, so I know when you are lying to me.”
“Goodbye Jamie.” You shook your head, pulling on the door but he wouldn’t let go.
“I want to hear you say it.”
“Fine. I guess you’re my favorite.”
“I didn’t need the sarcasm but ill take it. Bye Y/n.” He closed the door and walked to his car, he watched as you drove away.
Once you got home things went quickly. You greeted Brian and went to the kitchen and started dinner. He came in to help you, then when it was almost done he set the table. The two of you talked about your days. Then you spent time together and watched t.v. for a while before going to bed. That’s how it was with you too as of late. You have tried to change it, but nothing was working. It was like the two of you fell into this comfortable routine, that neither of you wanted to address. After three years together, you started thinking this is all that it would be.
You hate this feeling.
The feeling of something ending.

Today was the day, Jamie becomes a police officer.
You were so proud of him; you couldn’t wait to see him graduate. Originally you weren’t going to go to the ceremony, you were just going to congratulate him and give him a funny card or something. You knew he was going to be upset about it, but you didn’t have the energy to deal with Sydney. You told him it was because you had to work, you didn’t have the heart to tell him it was actually because of Sydney.
After a few days of trying to convince you to come, you finally caved. Luckily, you were able to get enough time off for the ceremony and a half hour more extra but that was about it. Which meant you would have to wear your uniform, but you grabbed a nice jacket to cover your shirt. He didn’t care what you wore as long as you were there.
Once you were on your way into the building you were texting Erin to see where they were. She made sure to save you a seat next to her but far away from Sydney. She was the only one who could see what she was doing to you. Neither of you were going to say anything to Jamie because he loves her, and you didn’t want to ruin that for him.
It took you a while to find them because of how many people were there. When you were able to find them, you were just in time for everything to start. Watching all of the new officers walking in was exciting, you were looking out for Jamie and quickly found him.
After the ceremony, everyone was waiting outside. You stayed behind to talk to a few of the officer before heading out to met the Reagans. You saw Frank and Henry on the way out, so you just tagged along with them.
“Dad!” Erin had her hand in the air to get his attention.
Once the three of you walked up, Danny was already on Jamie.
“Moms probably spinning in her grave, you quitting the law and becoming a cop and all.”
“Danny.” Linda mildly scolded him.
“I’m just sayin.’ Golden boy was on the fast track to Washington. Now look at him. Just like the rest of us Reagans another boot in a suit.”
“Don’t bust my chops, Danny”
“Excuse me, all of the Reagans?” Erin seemed mildly offended.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry, sis. I forgot we got an assistant district attorney in the family. I’m proud of you sis.” He said as he pulled her into a hug.
“Thank you.”
“We’d have another lawyer in the family if these two would set a date.” Linda pointed to Jamie and Sydney.
“What, and spoil all the fun?” Sydney before giving you a quick smirk. You just cocked your eyebrow at her.
“Well, the gang’s all here, I guess we should be getting over to the Breslin.” Frank was looking around the circle that you all had formed.
“Oh, sorry, but first-year associates don’t get lunch. I’m lucky they let me out for this. It was amazing.” She looked to Jamie, giving him a quick kiss. You just looked down, becoming very fascinated with your jacket.
“Bye everybody. Bye I love you.” She said as she backed up and walked away.
“Bye.” Linda gave her a little wave.
“Bye Sydney.” Frank said as she was walking away.
“She seems to be handling this well, you becoming a cop.” Erin spoke up.
“We’re working on it.”  Danny phone started ringing. He quickly picked up.
“It can’t be easy after watching you bury your brother.” Linda said.
“Joe died doing what he loved to do.” Henry chimed in.
There was a small moment of silence between everyone. Danny got off the phone before coming around to Jamie.
“Little brother, I’m gonna have to buy you a beer another time. I got a missing kid. Got to go.”
“You up to catch a case?”
“Yeah, dad. Demarcus is on his way. I’ll see you guys later.” Danny gives Linda a quick kiss, before turning his attention to the boys. “Bye. Bye boys.” Then he walked away.
“You coming with us Y/n?” Henry put his hand on your shoulder to get your attention.
“Not this time, I need to get going too.” You looked around the circle, stopping on Jamie. “Congratulations.”
“Wait you’re not coming.”
“No Jamie. My shift starts soon, and I need to make sure the truck is set up.”
“You couldn’t get the day off?”
“Unfortunately, not. I was only able to switch shifts with Brian to come here. He took mine while I get the lovely nightshift.”
“That doesn’t sound like fun.” Erin chuckled at your sarcasm.
“No, it’s not. I’m going to be getting off at Four in the morning. Then I will be working my regular shift.”
“Oh no. She’s going to be cranky for the next couple of days.”
You looked over to Jamie who had a huge grin on his face. You slightly moved to the side, punching him in the arm. He quickly grabbing where you hit and rubbing away the pain.
“Shut up.”
“Never mind she’s already cranky.” You brought your hand up to hit him again. “Hey!”
“Okay, I really need to get going now.” Jamie pulled you into a hug. Once he let you go, you pulled the card out of one of your inner pockets and handed it to him. You looked back to the other Reagans to see them all staring at the two of you. “Bye guys.” You started walking away.
“Bye Y/n!” Jamie yelled after you. You looked back sending him a wave.
You made it to your truck but getting out of there was worse than normal because of the Officer ceremony. When you finally made it into work, you had about ten minutes to spare. You went inside to your locker and started getting you gear on. Once you were done with that, you went out to the truck and started going through, restocking if needed.
You made it through the majority of your shift only dealing with non-life-threatening injuries. That was until the end of your shift there was as super bad accident. One car was a drunk driver and the other was a family of three. There were multiple ambulances dispatched to the scene. You instantly were at the car with the family, while your partner, Tyler went to the drunk driver.
Their car was hit on the driver side door. You knew that there is no way that you were going to be able to get the door open.
“Tyler, I need you over here as soon as possible!” You yelled over to your partner.
Just as you finished yelling another ambulance arrived along with the fire department. The other set of EMTs went to Tyler and took over the drunk driver. Tyler ran over to help you; he took the husband. The Husband was unconscious, he also took most of the damage. The wife was awake and trying to calm her son, who was screaming in the back seat. You quickly move around the car to check on the wife and child.
“Hey hunny what’s your name?” He looked over to you he looked scared, but he stopped crying. You opened the back door to pull the buster seat out, trying not to move the child too much.
“His name is Tony.”
“Tony. HI Tony.” You were able to get him out quickly. You checked him over as much as he would allow, not seeing any signs of physical injury. “Okay, you look all good little buddy. I’m gonna go check on your momma. Can you be a big boy and stay here?”
All he did was nod his head, but he was watching you closely as you walked over to his mom. You started working on his mom. She didn’t feel any pain, but you put her in a neck brace just to be sure. You were able to get her out and onto a gurney. She had a large cut on the side of her head where she hit it on the window, this was the only injury she had. You were able to get it cleaned up an put a bandage onto it for the ride to the hospital. Tony was on the gurney with his mother, he was curled into her side.
By this time another ambulance showed up. The fire department was able to get the husband out and onto a gurney. He was rushed to the hospital in the ambulance that just arrived, Tyler went with him, switching out with another EMT so that you weren’t in yours alone.
As you were about to load up the wife into the back of your truck, the new EMT came up to you and pulled you aside to speak with you.
“We need to get the son off of the gurney, he can’t stay with her.”
“What do you mean by he can’t stay with her? He’s coming in the ambulance with his mother.”
“There is no room in the ambulance for him. He is going to have to go with an officer.”
“There is room. He’s a little kid, and we have a seat for him in the back next to his mother. He will be strapped in like he’s supposed to be. If you take him away from his mother, you are going to cause unnecessary trauma. So back the fuck off and let me do my job and make sure his mother makes it to the hospital. All you need to worry about is driving the damn truck.” You weren’t going to back down when it comes to this. You couldn’t even believe he would suggest that.
You walked back to the back of your truck and loaded them up. You helped Tony into the seat while you got his mother ready to move. You absolutely hate drunk driver calls. Ever since your mother was killed in an accident by a drunk driver, you hated them even more.
Once you were set to go, you told the other EMT to drive to the hospital. You had a feeling that you were going to be written up for your behavior, but you tried not to focus on that. You needed to make sure to keep them calm on the way. You didn’t care if you got written up, you were in the right.
After getting to the hospital, you got the mother off of the truck before unbuckling Tony. The nurses came out seconds after you got the gurney out of the truck. Tyler was also walking to the truck. You started telling the nurses all of her vitals and everything that happened. You handed Tony over to one of the nurses. You made sure to give them all of the information you had, before going out to the truck.
You were in the back cleaning, when the EMT that Tyler switched with came to the back of the truck.
“What the hell is your problem?”
“Excuse you.” You stopped cleaning and looked over to him.
“I have been on the job longer than you have, why in the hell are you questioning my judgement.”
“Just because you have been on the job longer than me doesn’t mean shit. You wanted to traumatize a child, by taking him from his mother. Right after an accident. Do you not see how fucked up that is?”
“He would have been fine.” He crossed his arms at you. You walked to the back of the truck and hopped out. “Just because you can’t handle a car accident after your mother was killed doesn’t mean, he couldn’t manage being away from his mom for five minutes.”
“What the fuck did you just say?!”
“You heard me.”
The next few seconds went by so quickly that before you had time to think and stop yourself it was too late. You punched him right in the face, then grabbed him by his collar and slammed him against the ambulance door. You looked at him straight in the eyes, the anger was just radiating off of you.
“If you ever bring up my mother again, you’re going to have a lot worse than a busted nose.” You let go of him.
“You bitch.”
“I would go get that looked at if I were you.”
You left him to deal with his nose, while you hopped back into the truck and finished cleaning. After a little while he was gone, and Tyler popped back up.
“Did you really punch Ryan in the face?”
“Yeah, I did. He’s lucky that’s all I did.”
“I talked to him about what happened, he wanted to press charges.”
“Fuck.”
“Don’t worry I talked him out of it, but he’s still going to go to our supervisor.”
“Looks like I’m going to get suspended. Great.” You let out a sigh as you sat down on the back end of the truck.
“Hopefully, it’s not too long and you will be back out here. Just hopefully on your normal shift so you don’t have to deal with him.”
“Yeah.” You looked down at your watch seeing it is past four. “We should get back to the station, shift change is happening soon.”
“Okay, let’s go.”
The two of you loaded up, you drove back to the station. It was almost five thirty when you were almost done putting your gear away when Ryan walked through the door followed by Rourke, the Commissioner of the New York City Fire Department aka you boss. By the look on his face, you were about to get ripped a new one.
“Y/Ln! My office now.”
“Yes sir.”
You followed him to his office, closing the door behind you. You stood in front of his desk while he sat in his chair.
“What the hell happened?!”
“Ryan wanted to take a child who had just been in a car accident, away from his mother. I was not going to allow that to happen. I told him off, we got to the hospital with no problems. After the child and his mother were handed over to the hospital, I went back to clean the truck. He came to the back and started talking at me. One thing led to another, he brought up my mother and I punched him in the face, then slammed him into the door. I gave him a warning, he called me a bitch, then I went back to cleaning the truck.” You said this in a calm manner, a little too calm for Rourke.
He wiped his hands down his face.
“I know your mother is a sensitive subject for you. A lot of us know what happen to her.” He let out a sigh, crossing his arms over his desk. “But that doesn’t excuse your behavior.”
“Are you serious?! He was going to traumatize a child!” You got closer to his desk, pointing to the door that Ryan had left out before they entered. “When my mom died, I was in my early twenty’s, not a fragile child.”
“Y/n, calm down.”
“I’m not going to calm down. I don’t give a rat’s ass, what he said to me. I’m more worried about the next child or person he does this to.”
“He is being dealt with. We are here to talk about you.” He pulled out paperwork. “I’m going to have to suspend you effective immediately, and in order to come back you have to complete an anger management class.”
You gave him a bitch face and a cocked eyebrow. “Are you serious? I don’t have an anger problem.”
“Y/n, I’m not going to compromise on this.”
“Fine.”
You got up and walked out, going back to your locker. You pulled out your things when you heard a door open behind you. You turned your head to see Brian walking in.
“Hey.” He said as he came up next to you.
“Hi.”
“Do you know what’s going on? I got a call saying that the schedule was changed, and I was taking over your shift.”
“Yeah, I got suspended.”
“What?! Why?” He was fully turned to you now.
“I punched Ryan in the face.”
“I’m sure you had a good reason. You’re not one to lose your temper.”
“Yeah well, I did and now I have to take an anger management class before I can come back to work. So, there is that.” You were done gathering all of your stuff and ready to leave. “I’ll talk to you later. Stay safe.” You gave him a quick kiss before heading out.

Being a paramedic is something that you have wanted to do since you were young. You have always wanted to help people. Your mother was a paramedic, and your father was a cop. So, you have been around this your entire life.
Growing up you had a hard time; your parents were working all of the time. It seemed like they never had time to be with you. You moved in with your grandma, she was the one raised you. When you were a teenager, she had passed away. This set you into a downward spiral. When you had moved back in with your parents, now you were practically raising yourself. With them being gone all the time it gave you a certain amount of freedom, and not in a good way. You had started partying, drinking, and doing stupid shit.
That was until you met Jamison Reagan.
That boy flipped your life upside down. At first you wanted absolutely nothing to do with him. You would do your best to avoid him, but it didn’t help that you had a few classes with him. It’s not that he wasn’t cute because he was very cute. It was more to the fact that you two were very different. He was a goodie two shoes and you were a bad influence.
It’s not like you didn’t know about the Reagans. Your dad would talk about Henry and Frank all the time. At a certain point you had stopped listening to him. It is also part of the reason that you didn’t want to be around Jamie, you had heard enough about them at home that you didn’t want to deal with it in school as well.
The real reason the two of you started hanging out was because of your science teacher pair the two of you together for a project. You would go to his house to work on the project, because you didn’t want him to know where you lived. Also, that you were alone most of the time. You would work on the project for hours over there. His dad and grandpa would even stop to help when they could. This is when you got introduced to the rest of the Reagan clan.
You were blown away by the Reagan’s. Being over there was very different than being at home. Even when your parents were there, you wouldn’t really hangout with them. You would always stay in your room, unless you had to come out. There was always something happening at the Reagan’s. You got a small glimpse of what a family should look like. They were always hanging out with each other. Whether it was just watching t.v., playing games, picking on each other or even eating together, there was never a dull moment.
As the two of you worked on the project, you started to let your guard down. You had started to come out of your shell around Jamie. At first you didn’t like that this boy was getting to you, but slowly you started to accept it. The two of you started to become close, so much so that his brothers and sister would tease him. You didn’t think anything of it though. He didn’t have a crush on you, you were just friends.
Once the project was over you had started to retreat back to the old you. Jamie was the only one to notice this. He made sure every chance he got he would talk to you or invite you to hang out with him. You were happy when he did that. You would spend as much time at the Reagans as you could, it was better than going home and being alone.
Jamie didn’t find out about you being alone at home until senior year. One night you had stayed a little too long at his house that it got dark. You quickly told him that you had to leave. Once you had gotten to the door Frank was stopping you. He didn’t want you walking home alone in the dark. You tried to tell him that it was okay and that you didn’t live very far away. Jamie offered to drive you home and he wasn’t taking no for an answer. He ended up driving you home that night.
When you got to your house, inside was dark and there was no car in the driveway. Immediately a red flag went off in Jamie’s head. He asked you about it and you tried to lie and tell him that your mom was probably asleep already. He of course wasn’t buying it. Eventually you told him that ever since you were thirteen you were basically on your own. You could tell he was upset about it but that is just how life is for some people.
Before you could even put your hand on the door handle, Jamie pulled away from the curb and headed back to his house. When you asked him what he was doing, he told you “I’m not letting you be alone anymore.” You tried to argue but he is so stubborn. When you got back to his house, he talked to his dad about you staying there. You just wanted to walk out the door and run home from the embarrassment. You ended up staying the night there. Jamie gave up his room for you, he gave you a pair of sweats and a shirt to sleep in. For the first time in a long time, you felt safe.
The next morning, you were up early, hoping to be out of the house before any of the Reagan’s were awake. You got up and made his bed before changing into your clothes from the day before. You neatly folded the clothes Jamie gave to you, leaving them on the end of his bed. You quietly walked down the stairs towards the door. You walked past the living room where Jamie was asleep on the couch, you could tell that he wasn’t sleeping well on the couch by the look on his face.
After that, you and Jamie were inseparable. No matter what it was you were always together. That was until college came a round. This is when your lives slowly started going different directions. Jamie was going to go to Harvard, and you were going to the FDNY EMS Training Academy. You were happy for each other; you both were doing what you really wanted to do.
After the two of you graduated, tragedy strikes not only the Reagan home but yours as well. Your mother was in a car accident, you were the unlucky EMT that was dispatched to her accident. You tried your hardest, but you couldn’t save her. This made you work harder at your job, you even got more training. For the Reagan’s it was the death of Joe. There was a change in all of them after that. You completely understood this change though.
This changed Jamie so much that he decided to become a police officer. You were the first person he wanted to tell that he wanted to be a cop. When he first brought it up to you thought he was joking. You could tell by how his excitement deflated that he was serious about this. You told him that this is a big decision, and it isn’t to be taken lightly. He also has to think about Sydney.
Sydney… The girl that stole your best friend’s heart. She doesn’t like you because of how close you and Jamie are. Even though you and Jamie had been friends for years, she always thought the worst of you. You only tolerate her because she was with Jamie. You respected him enough to do that for him. The thing is she doesn’t even try to be nice to you, except when Jamie was around. Which is why you try your absolute hardest to avoid her when you go hang out with the Reagan’s.
This is where their story begins.

The Past is Back: Part 1
Tumblr media
-Jamie-
“12 David, we have a 10-52 A, Female in distress. She is currently hiding in her closet from a male suspect.” The radio came to life, causing Jamie and Renzulli to rush back to the squad car.
“12 David to central we’re in route.” Renzulli called back as Jamie started the car. Renzulli looked at the computer before addressing Jamie. “Jamie. Isn’t this Y/n’s house?”
Jamie looked at the screen, his eyes were filled with shock. He didn’t say anything as he turned on the sirens and drove as quickly as he could to get to your house. When they pulled up Danny and Jackie were already out of their car, heading towards your home.
“Danny what’s going on?” Jamie called to him as they stepped out of their cars.
“It’s Jake.” He looked between Jamie and Renzulli. Jamie tensed up instantly when he heard your ex’s name. “You guys take the back; Jackie and I have the front.”
“Got it. Let’s go Reagan.” Renzulli bumped Jamie on the arm, pulling him out of his daze.
Renzulli was already walking around your house to the back, Jamie quickly followed behind. His heart was racing. How did he find you? What was he doing here? There were so many questions floating around in his head as he approached the back door. Renzulli pulled the door open for Jamie. He quickly made his way to the front where he heard Danny and Jackie yelling. He wasn’t prepared for what he saw as he rounded the corner.
When Danny and Jackie got to your front door, Danny gave her a look after seeing that the door was open. As his hand came up to push the door open there was a crashing sound. They quickly went through the door, making their way to the main area. When they got there, they saw you pinned up against the wall, you were barely conscious and Jake with the gun to your chest.
“Police! Drop The Gun!”
Danny and Jackie had their guns pointed at Jake. He looked over as he moved his finger to the trigger. Both Jackie and Danny noticed this, but Danny was quicker at pulling the trigger. As soon as the bullet hit its target, he dropped. Releasing you from his hold. As you started falling to the ground, Jamie rounded the corner to see you going down. He slid down to his knees to catch you, not caring about the glass that was cutting him up.
“Y/n!” He was cradling your head, trying to get you to open your eyes. “Come on Y/n. Open your eyes baby please.”
Danny dropped down next to you and Jamie. He could see that you were still breathing, which was a good sign. The not waking up, wasn’t. Jackie ran outside when she heard the ambulance sirens, coming back a few seconds later with the paramedics. They quickly came to your aid. Danny and Jamie needed to step away, but Jamie didn’t want to let you go. One of the paramedics had to cradle your head as Renzulli pulled Jamie back from you.
Danny had walked outside to call Linda, he wanted to make sure that she was the one who caught you when you got to the hospital.
“Hello.”
“Linda, I need you to do something for me.” She could hear something different in his voice.
“Danny what’s wrong?” “It’s Y/n. She is coming into the hospital; they are loading her into the ambulance as we speak. Jamie is riding with her; his knees are cut up pretty bad too. Linda, she’s not waking up.” Now there was no hiding the fact that he was starting to cry. “I need you to be there to help her. Please help her.”
“Oh my god.” She was in shock but was quickly able to recover. “Danny, I will, I will do everything I can okay. You need to call your dad and let him know. I have to go. I love you. I promise that I will be with her as soon as she gets here.”
“Thank you, Linda. I love you too.”
Once he hung up with Linda, He was already making his next few calls. He was able to finish them quickly, before getting Jackie and driving to the hospital.
“Danny, I need to tell you something.”
“What is it, Jackie?” He looked at her for a split second before going back to the road.
“Last week when I had to go back to the locker room, I saw Y/n.” She was looking down at her hands, she felt guilty for not saying anything to him when it happened. “I saw that she had bruises on her back and her hip.”
“What?! Why didn’t you say anything?”
“I asked her about them, and she told me that she fell in her tub. I didn’t want to assume anything. Especially since she was dating Jamie. I know he wouldn’t do that to her. I’m sorry.”
The rest of the car ride was in an uncomfortable silence. When they arrived, they quickly looked for Jamie and Renzulli. They found them in one of the rooms, Jamie was on the bed getting his knees bandaged.
“Jamie, where is she?”
“Linda took her. They said something about surgery.”
“Did they say anything else?”
“No. They wanted to get things taken care of quick. Everything was moving so fast that I didn’t catch all of it.”
A little while later Frank came through the doors, Henry and Erin followed shortly behind. They found Danny and Jamie quickly.
“What happened?”
“Y/n called me, and she was hiding in her closet because Jake was in her house. She was supposed to call me right back after she called 911, but she didn’t. When we got there, he had a gun to her chest, and she had blood dripping down her face.” Danny ran his hands down his face, trying not to cry again. “Jamie couldn’t get her to wake up. I had to get out of there, I couldn’t see her like that.”
Over the years, you had become like a little sister to both Danny and Erin. Even Frank saw you as a daughter. You had spent so much time with them that they practically welcomed you into the family. Even before you and Jamie were a couple. You didn’t have any family left. You lost your father in the line of duty, and you lost your mother when you were a teenager.
So, when you met the Reagan’s, they welcomed you in with open arms. Danny was the one that introduced you to the rest of the Reagan bunch. You immediately hit it off with all of them. Jamie more so than the rest. Ever since then you have been inseparable from them.
“Oh my God…” Erin brought her hand up to her face and sank into a chair next to Jamie.
“Where is that son of a bitch?!” Henry was looking around the hospital.
“He’s dead.”
“Good.”
Frank pulled Jamie and Danny aside to talk to them about what has been going on. Neither of them could really tell him anything. Jamie told him about the conversation that the two of you had the night before. Danny told him about what Jackie told him, but that was really all of the information that they had.
Renzulli went back to work but told Jamie and Danny to keep him updated on your condition. Everyone sat down in the waiting room for you to come out of surgery. They were all getting nervous the longer they had to sit there. It was quite a few hours later before a doctor came out to the waiting room.
“Y/n Y/Ln’s family.”
Jamie stepped up to the doctor with his family standing up together behind him.
“I’m Jamie, Y/n is my girlfriend. She doesn’t have any family left. We are the closest thing she has to one.” He turned and gestured towards the wall of Reagans behind him.
“Okay, Jamie. We were able to clean up the side of her head where it looks a glass bottle broke and shattered on her head. We initially thought she would need surgery, but it wasn’t as bad as we initially thought. Now we did a CT scan of her brain, to make sure she didn’t have a concussion. Unfortunately, she wasn’t so lucky in that department.”
Jamie was going through so many emotions at this point. He promised you that nothing would happen to you. He had failed you. He had tears coming from his eyes, he ran his hands through his hair and left them at the top of his head.
Danny came up to try and calm his brother down. He put his arm around Jamie’s shoulder before turning to the doctor. “What happens now? Is he able to see her?”
“I want to keep her for at least three days. The next forty-eight hours are critical, and I want to keep her the extra day just to monitor her and make sure everything stays on track. She needs a lot of rest right now. I can allow you to go and sit with her, but she isn’t awake right now. We are hoping that she will wake up within the next hour or so.”
“She’s not awake yet?” Jamie’s voice was wavering, he was trying so hard not to cry.
“No, she’s not.” The doctor sighed, she didn’t want to upset Jamie or anyone else more than she already has. “How about I take you to see her?”
Jamie nodded his head before letting go of Danny. He followed the doctor down the hall to the ICU. Before getting to your room, the doctor stopped Jamie. He looked down at her with a confused look.
“I need you to mentally prepare yourself. I don’t want you to be shocked when you see her. She has bandages on her head. There are bruises and cuts all over her body. I wish that I could make all of it go away but I can’t.”
Jamie looked away from her and sighed. He was trying to compose himself, but all he could think about was how he had failed to protect you from Jake.
“Whenever you are ready Jamie, we will go inside.”
“I’m ready.” After a few seconds he spoke up.
Even with him trying to mentally prepare he wasn’t ready to see you like that. Once his eyes landed on you, it just broke him down even more. You looked so fragile with the bandages, tubes and wires that were connected to you. He grabbed one of the chairs from the side of the room and pulled it close as he could to your bed. He hesitantly grabbed your hand, not wanting to hurt you. Once he had your hand in his, he placed his elbows on your bed and the dam that was holding back his tears broke. He brought your hand up to his face and kissed it, then he pressed his forehead to your hand.
He stayed there for hours, just waiting for you to wake up. Once the tears were gone, slowly he started falling asleep himself. He didn’t remember falling asleep, but he woke up to someone running their fingers through his hair.
“Jamie…” a soft voice broke the silence.
He opened his eyes to see you looking down at him. He got up quickly, making sure that he didn’t hurt you.
“Hey. You’re awake. Are you feeling, okay?”
“Yeah, I mean I have a headache, but I think I’m okay.”
“Are you sure, I can get Linda or the doctor.”
“No. I’m okay…” You looked down at your hands, a few tears started falling down your cheek. “Jamie, I… I need to apologize to you.”
“No, you don’t.”
“Yes, I do. I was distant, cold, I was lying to you, and everyone. Then I went and broke your heart.” You were fully crying now. “I was trying to keep you safe. I didn’t want him to come after you or your family. I know it was a stupid thing to do but I didn’t want any of you to get hurt.”
“You have nothing to apologize for. You were trying to protect us. Sweetheart, you didn’t have to do that. I not going to lie I was upset that broke up with me, but thinking about it that was just to protect me, wasn’t it?”
“I had to do it; I didn’t want to. I am in love with you, but I just needed you to stay away from me for your own safety. I couldn’t let him hurt you. I’m so sorry.”
“Hey, I’m here and I’m not going anywhere. I’m absolutely, head over heels in love with you. Nothing is going to stop me from being with you. Not even your crazy ex-boyfriend.”
He gently wiped the tears away before placing a hand on the side of your face. You leaned into his touch, placing a hand over his. He leaned down pressing a soft kiss to your forehead.
“So where does that leave us?”
“What do you mean?
“Do you still want to be my boyfriend? I know that sounds like a stupid question since we both just told the other that we are in love with the other. You can be in love with someone and not be with them. I don’t want to do that, but I would completely understand if you didn’t want to be with me though. I have done terrible and stupid things over the last few months, but the worst thing I did was break up with you. He was there that night watching us and he was threating you. I… I… I couldn’t risk him hurting you.” You couldn’t stop the words from coming out like word vomit. Your voice was frantic, and you were trying to make it even out, but it wasn’t working.
Jamie was just standing there in shock that you would even ask him that.
“Y/n, I need you to listen to me. I love you. I want to be with you. I can’t go through my life without you in it. I’m not giving you up that easy.”
You stared into his eyes; you could see that he was being genuine. Your tears started falling harder. You pulled him down into a hug, not caring how bad it hurt you. Pulling back slightly to look at him once again, before kissing him.
“I think I probably should get the doctor to let them know your awake. Then I need to go tell everyone. They are probably losing it by now.” Jamie said after pulling away enough to place his forehead on yours.
“Okay.”
He stayed there a little bit longer, giving you another kiss. Then pulling away and leaving the room. He moved to the nurse’s station, finding Linda there. Letting her know that you were awake. She quickly got the doctor. Jamie waited until Linda and the doctor went into your room before going out to the waiting room. All of his family was still there, with Nikki, Jack and Sean joining the group.
“Is she okay?” Erin was the first to spot Jamie.
“Yea, she says her head hurts but she’s okay.” Everyone let out sighs of relief. “Thank you, guys, for being here for her. I don’t know how I would have managed all of this if you guys weren’t here.”
They all just looked at each other before surrounding Jamie in a family hug. All of them looked up when they heard a voice behind them.
“What about me?”
Linda was standing behind them with her arms crossed. Everyone let go and Jamie walked over to Linda. Pulling her into a tight hug.
“Thank you. I’m glad you were the one who to help her. I don’t know what I would have done if I lost her.”
“Hey, she’s okay and she’s not going anywhere.” She pulled back a little, not breaking the hug. “It’s my job to help and take care of people. Besides, she is family. I would do anything for her, you, or anyone of those troublemakers over there. You don’t have to thank me for that.”
“Well… Thank you for being there for her when I couldn’t.”
“You should go back in there; she’s asking for you.”
“I’m going.” He had a big smile on his face when he let go of her to get back to you.
A little while after Jamie got back into your room there was as knock on the door. Both of you looked over to see Danny standing in the doorway.
“What’s up Danny?”
“Can I talk to you for just a second?”
“Yeah.” Jamie got up and walked over to Danny. “What’s going on?
“I have to talk to Y/n. I need to get her statement. I want to get it done and over with so that she can put it behind her and not have to think about it. She can just rest and not have to worry about him anymore.” He talked in a low whisper so that only Jamie could hear.
“No matter what happens she will remember that asshole for the rest of her life. Please don’t push her to do this right now.”
“I’m not going to push her. Why would you think that?”
“Danny, you don’t have the softest approach when it comes to things like this.”
“Wow. Thanks Jamie.” Danny moved around Jamie over to you.
“Hey.” He was standing next to your bed.
“Hi Danny.”
“I need to talk to you. Only if you’re up for it thought.”
“I’m guessing that I have to make my statement now. I have to ask…” You looked down at your hands, rubbing them together like you were nervous.
“What’s that?”
“Can Jackie take my statement?”
You couldn’t look at him. The things that Jack did; it was going to be hard enough to talk about it. You don’t want Danny to look at you any different after hearing what happened. For that same reason you didn’t want Jamie in the room either.
“Y/n… Yeah, I can get her.” You could hear the hurt in his voice as he sent a quick message to Jackie. You could tell that he was thinking that you didn’t trust him.
“Can it be just her?” you said in a quieter voice.
“You don’t want Jamie in the room?” He stepped a little closer to you, keeping this conversation quiet.
“No.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah. I need to do this without him here. I won’t be able to tell her everything if he’s here.”
You were holding back tears at this point. Danny leaned over, carefully pulling you into a hug. You held onto him, just letting it all out. You didn’t even hear Jackie come into the room.
“Y/n?” You pulled back from Danny to look up. You only saw worry in all of their eyes. You wiped your eyes on your hands, then you looked to Jackie. Danny got up and walked over to the two of them. Talking to them in a whisper.
“Thanks Jackie. She wants you to take the statement, and she wants to do it alone.” He looked to Jamie.
“What?!” Jamie spoke a little loud causing you to jump slightly. Instantly regretting it once he saw the way you reacted.
“Jamie, she needs to be able to talk freely. She can’t do that with her boyfriend in the room. She will tell you what happened when she’s ready, but for now don’t push this.” Without saying another word, Jamie walked out.
“Go after him.” Jackie put a hand on his shoulder before walking to you.
Danny looked back at you one last time before following his brother out of the room. You didn’t want Jamie to be upset with you. You felt bad enough with everything that you did, this was just the icing on the cake. You pulled your legs up towards your chest, wrapping your arms around them. You didn’t care how much it hurt, you deserved it for all of the pain you had caused Jamie the last couple of months.
“Y/n?” You looked up to see Jackie moving to the chair that Jamie had been previously sitting in.
“Jackie… I messed up, didn’t I?”
“No. No you didn’t.” She placed her hand on your arm. “Jamie will be fine. He just wants to be here for you.”
“But I made him leave.” You dropped your head back onto your knees.
“If you didn’t, I would have. I know that this is already going to be hard for you to talk to me about and I’m one of your friends. I couldn’t imagine how hard it would be to have your boyfriend hear what happened to you.”
You looked over at her, she has sympathy in her eyes and written all over her face. You put your forehead back on your knees, trying to calm yourself down. A few seconds later you felt Jackie’s hand lightly touch your arm.
“Honey, I know this is going to be hard, but we can go as slow as you need to go. Okay?”
You nodded, then you picked up your head, wiping the tears off of your face and looked at her. You started telling her all of the events that have happened over the last few months leading up to today. You told her that you had saved all of the text messages that he had sent to you. You even made sure to take photos of yourself every time something happened to you. You gave her your phone as evidence.
Not once did you feel like she was judging you for the trauma you had gone through. You felt safe telling her everything. You let everything out, and when you were done it felt like a huge weight was lifted off of your shoulders. You were finally able to breath. You were tired, you felt drained from all of the talking, but now that it was out there, and this is completely over…
You feel finally free…
