wayne just has absolute jäger energy.
in the middle of a fight he stops to shop clothes off the guy he defeated
he believes in hats
his relationship with hats is unmatchable
book 1 plot is he loses his hat and tries to get it back
he's undyingly loyal
eager for a fight
knows how to start a bar fight
brawler in an age where there's shooty things
thinks getting shot at is a form of affection
absolutely would go up to someone and say "nize hat" (and eat it off their head)
inspired by one of my favorite panels of girl genius.
oh, and if they weren't stick figures, wax would be pulling him back by his suspenders.

Unfortunately, I have had to resort to wearing boxer shorts on my head after a tragic flamethrower incident. How doomed am I?
Ho boy. Dat dun sound like a plen dat vent goot for hyu. Ve ken have a moment for hyu hat lost to ashes.
Anyvay, vhy hyu vear boxer shorts? De shame ov loosink a fight to a leetle flame trower? Mebbe hyu trick some townies into tinkink dat is some new fashioneeable hat from paris, but hy iz preety sure most pipple vill know iz chust undervear. Iz... not a goot look for sure.
If hyu is chust tryink to hide hyu messed-op hair, den hy vould suggest a haircut or mebbe sometink dat iz an aktual hat. Like, a bandana effen. Vhich isn't a proper hat, but a proper hat vould need a goot opponent. Vell, unless hyu izn't jäger. Hyu dun sound like vun. In vhich case, hyu ken chust buy a hat. Or vear nottink. Nottink vould mebbe be better den undervear on hyu head.

Hey hey hey I gave original-flavor Virgil a light reimagining that matches my current design and story sensibilities, as well as how he's developed as a character over the years.
He started out as a Girl Genius OC and frankly I'm still very fond of what I did with him; a mute Heterodyne mechanic with heavy spark potential who joined the jagerkin when offered instead of potentially breaking through. He's a lot more low-key than most jagers but has just as much of a mean streak, he's not unsocial but just prefers to keep to his work. He throws himself headlong into clanks and vehicles and other machines, loves working in the bowels of them, working them, trying to make Real Good Explosions, loves his heavy weaponry. He grew up on a hen farm (hates birds, so much) with his mother, older cousin, and three younger sisters and the first thing he did upon becoming a jager was kill his cousin over a long history of bullying and abuse, including the injury that left him speechless.
His preferred hat is a welding mask. He's got grandkids out there somewhere from a relationship where his beau was pregnant and married off before he got the chance to propose; he's still sore about it. He's also very fond of gardening and baking, he's got a few plants at the end of his bed on the wulfenbach ships. Its the only thing he cares much about keeping alive, including himself; he's never been as important as the work he does.

How does this work?
I provide a set of prompts for each day of the event week. You can choose one or more prompts, and then you base a fanwork on that prompt. If you want to combine prompts, or make multiple pieces to contrast prompts, then you can do so.
How do I post?
Post your work or a link to your work (for fics hosted on AO3) on tumblr, and tag it #girl genius event week. You will also tag @girlgeniusevents in the body of the post. I will then reblog it to share with the other participants.
Do not post before the day of the prompt. Late posts are accepted. If I do not reblog your post within 36 hours, contact me.
Are there any limitations?
Please do not submit nsfw if you are a minor. Please provide warnings for fics with sensitive content, and tag appropriately. Please do not bash ships or characters.
Am I supposed to interpret the prompts any specific way?
Nope! So long as it’s Girl Genius and relates to the prompt somehow, feel free to go wild.
I don’t understand what this particular prompt is supposed to mean.
I had to shorten a few to make them snappy, so here's some clarification!
Parent Generation: Bill, Lucrezia, and Klaus's generation. Includes Barry, Aaronev, etc.
Near-Modern AU: a recent history AU (e.g. an eighties AU) that is lacking in canon fantasy elements... or a modern AU with non-canon fantastical elements, like an urban fantasy.
(Or you can just stick with a real world modern AU! There's plenty of interesting work to be done there, too.)
Fighting Girls Tea and Cake Society: the canon nickname for Zeetha, Violetta, and Bang as a trio
Kid Fic: Could be a flashback to when they were kids. Could be de-aging. Could be about their children, a few years into the future. Go nuts.
Foreign Rulers: Albia, Voltaire, Zantabraxus, and so on. If they aren't inside Wulfenbach territory, they count.
Genre AU: Doing a genre fiction story about canon. GG covers plenty of genres in a mix, but a Genre AU would be dedicated to one specific genre that isn't GG's main. For instance, if you wanted to do a film noir AU, you could do a standard film noir setting with GG characters, or you could do something more like the Ivo Sharktooth comic.
Cheesecake/Beefcake: Cheesecake is pin-up style sexy ladies. Beefcake is pin-up style sexy dudes. Phil draws a lot of these, so the prompts are in honor of that. If you aren’t in the mood to draw or write something relating to sexy people, then we also have the option of literal cake.
OCs and Commoners of Europa: Originally, this was just the Circus, but I've expanded it to cover more. Show us your Original Characters, or just write about someone who's living their life outside the plot.

People should stop talking about Jägers not being sneaky because like. Look at this scene. Lars doesn’t even bring them up as an option or a risk and neither does Abner. In fact they’re intensely startled to see them.
That means Da Boyz left the town, changed clothes, snuck back in the town, and then fucking sat down on top of the wagon where nobody noticed them. Possibly right in front of the guards.
Jägers are experts at sneaking. But only use it for the drama.

Zoing didn’t originally have a hat.
But with all the jagerkin around, it was inevitable Zoing heard about hats.
It wasn’t so much that Zoing got along with the jagers.
Just he was very impressionable.
And jagers always were talking about hats.
Hats seemed important!
Some had feathers.
Some were very, very small.
All of them had great colors.
There were the ones with wide brims.
Some were pointy on top!
Some were taller than Zoing.
Zoing always had a new hat to tell Gil about.
Till one day, finally, Gil acquired a hat for Zoing.
Zoing’s very own hat!
Suddenly, the jagers were very aware of the blue arthropod's existence.
Especially this one hatless jager.
Zoing felt sorry for that jager.
Until the jagers all tried to pounce Zoing.
Tried to snatch Zoing.
Tried to squish Zoing.
They also thought Zoing looked pretty tasty.
Gil always managed to stop them.
Even when he was not much bigger than Zoing himself.
Somehow.
Still, this happened a lot.
Especially after the Baron let slip his son needed extra training.
Zoing got very good at running with tea.
Gil got very good at fighting jagers.
To this day, Zoing remains undefeated.
I’ve been thinking nonstop about Zoing with a little cup of tea running from a pouncing jager. I’ve thought about it so much I’m now half convinced this must already be art given how well I can visualize it. If you art, would draw this, and take commish, message me?

hello!
tonight a Jewish holiday partially about hats starts! its called Purim, and we celebrate by making fun of the villain of the Purim story, Haman (boooo) and haman's (booooo) hat!
here is what his hat looked like
we also make cookies in the shape of his hat (or possibly his ears) called hamantaschen and eat them to celebrate defeating him.
Purim is celebrated by partying, drinking a lot and being as loud as possible, so I think it could be quite popular with Jagerkin!
Ho, dat does sound like fun! Mebbe hy take a break zo it dun get too loud fer me, but any party iz pretty often qvite fun.
Now, hy dun know about de jewish holidays. Hy didn't get out ov Mechanicsburg much, ja? Und our holidays hy tink iz pretty locally specific. Zo! Hy looks into it, because, vell. Hyu mention a hat zo ov course hy gots to!

Proposed Girl Genius OT3 wedding
the red Cathedral,
Obvs big crowd: they only let minimum inside but the entire town, and all of Europa wants this, the only ways to have a little ceremony would be to do Gil's plan and Elope or else Lock down Mechanicsburg and go under siege for the duration (the castle would find that highly festive: ready access to as much celebratory blood as they need!)
the boys are the procession: starting at two opposite points of town and marching at the head of a parade of their subordinates (and unofficially by the crowd of those that especially supported their suit).
The two processions then meet a good distance out from the cathedral. Before that point they were both stately, if celebratory hordes, but their joining is riotous!
Are the two Fighting? Dancing? Racing to the cathedral by increasingly impressive Parkour??
Who Knows!
But the crowds are doing all of the above with all the enthusiasm of Mamma's at Brawl!
The Consorts-to-Be are alternatively grappling, attacking, and running in very traditional Mechanicsburg (Jager-ish subset) Flirting!! The Crowd is Eating it UP!!
and finally, the consorts arrive abreast to the chapel,
[most of, though not all political connections and a solid chunk of their personal friends (which categories conveniently overlap) are already seated and warned of their immanent arrival]
but there's no one at the alter?
a moment of (feigned?) confusion, where the boys glance at each other and walk in together when they're a bit more than halfway down the aisle
KA-BOOM!
lightning strikes the alter! the whole crowd winces away in the wake of the lightning- Agatha appears at the alter (standing on it dramatically really) as the last of the charge arcs off in very 1985 visual effect style as she "confronts" her suitors and demands their devotion
Tarvek swears upon her kindness and determination
Gil swears on her intelligence and fidelity (the liege version, this is about Mechanicsburg)
both beg the privilege's of staying by her side forever, approaching the alter in the process
at this point, Agatha steps down to meet them.
She formally accepts Tarvek for grace and cunning,
and Gil for strength and devotion.
I want the local Officiating Phrase to be "Behold my consort(s)! Quail before our strength!" because Mechanicsburg is cool like that
the doom bell goes off of course, and there's a brief lull, while the guests recover (the castle is sulky that Agatha made it warn them).
then the party descends in earnest! braziers go up all over town as the sun does down and the drinks and food come out
the details of what happened at the party vary (and are contested by various drunken or inventive viewers) but Lady Heterodyne and her consorts wander about town accepting and giving gifts at various points (started with the chapel members, which were mostly political gifts, a different thing).
Eventually the happy throuple wander off to do pretty much exactly what the Jagerkin imply and everyone has a good night
