Sometimes, whether we admit it or not, we often listen just to give a piece of our mind, but not to understand what the person is saying.
We don't process well the things the person may say, we only listen so we can react or answer or give a piece of our mind to them. At times, we allow our ego to just talk and talk.
But listening, understanding, and comprehending what a person was saying is another story. And at times, even if we say communication is the key, it only becomes a one-way street, not a two-way.
People aren't all the same when it comes to opening up their hearts especially when they are hurt. We aren't wired or made in the same way.
So our emotional and mental process differs from one another, it's not like you can tell a person to just tell their feelings when they grow up bottling it up within them because they are told that they should shut up.
It takes tons of patience to truly understand a person, especially if you love the person and you care for their well-being. It's not the same for you, or them.
We aren't robots who are manufactured and programmed to feel and process things all the same way. So yes, understanding someone takes a lot of empathy and acceptance.
One would only open up to you if you are a safe space, a safe person to open up to. Forcing it would only do more harm than good, remember that.
