man its so stupid that i get insecure drawing fanart / pairing art, and i think its cuz in my silly brain those kinds of drawing are "only for girls (/women)" when obviously they arent lol. also girls are cool so why should i get insecure over doing something that they do lmaoo

and people have been drawing fanart for a looong time. for a period of western art the majority of art being made was fanart of the Bible commisioned by the church. since by definition fanart is art made of or relating to a preexisting media (/person/character) that a person didn't make themselves. literally myths legends etc are all fanfiction of other stories or stories that came before.

its like that saying "there are no original stories" and i get some people dont see it that way but to me i like thinking about it like that, because humanity has really always been the same and connected in a lot of ways especially by stories.

its also funny cuz a lot of things people think of as "modern" "a waste of time" "unnatural" are really jus things people have always been doing. like fanfiction/art, but also dyed hair, makeup, painting nails, piercings, body mods.

even smth as specific as drawing on a graphics tablet while watching a yt vid. thats just a different form of hanging out with people while drawing stickfigues on a cave wall man.

i guess thinking about fandom and being a fan in that context makes me feel less cringe/insecure about it idk.
