Merle Oberon (Wuthering Heights, The Scarlet Pimpernel)—She was mixed race (born in India and her mother was Sri Lankan) and still managed to make it in the British and American film industries (by passing) despite a rough start in life and industry racism. She was the first Asian person to be nominated for any Academy Award (best actress in 1935)! She also survived a car accident in 1937 and kept on acting until 1973, despite potentially career-ending facial scars. Also, she met her third husband while they were filming a movie together in 1973 (her last movie and she still looks great!). They fell in love and got married in 1975 when she was 62 and he was 36. She died 4 years later in 1979. Iconic.

Jean Seberg (Breathless, Saint Joan)— Some of us watched À bout de souffle as a lil French undergrad and had the trajectory of our lives changed by Jean Seberg. She IS French new wave!! She is the moment!! She sadly had to work with a lot of shitty directors in her career but even so, she has this magnetic energy whenever she’s on screen. In her personal life, she was also very supportive of civil rights causes, and was even targeted/harassed by the FBI for financially supporting the Black Panther Party.

Can I say the JC fandom? Because it's a very small, unpopular fandom, and not many people are fond of Jaime and Cersei together. So even if I'm very vocal about them, I think it's the most obscure one I can think of.

Oh, I think it would be getting my JC tattoo! It was so big on my arm, I was scared at first, but now I'm used to it.

Hmmm, I read "therefore each to other bound" a lot tbh, almost religiously. But I'd say "Until Death Do Us Part" by my friend Annie. It's a Modern AU where Jaime and Cersei are married, and I love it to pieces and keep reading it over and over again.

24. Funniest fandom-related story?

OMGGGG Once upon a time, I blocked another JC stan on Tumblr. Her behavior was really "Meh", very childish behavior, and she kept trying to fight br*imes. And so, I blocked her because I didn't like the vibe she was giving off and she was annoying. Girly got MAD, like mad MAD and everytime she tried to make friends with other JC stans, she used to shit on me. Once, years later, she tagged one of her fics "it's better than most of the Pentos AU you'll read" or something along the lines, and it pissed me off, because you don't shit on your fellow writers, especially in such a small fandom, so I made a vague post about it on my blog. I didn't mention her, only in the convo I had with my friend in the replies. But Ma'am was STALKING MY BLOG, LITERALLY. And a few days later later, she wrote a WHOLE LONG ASS POST about me on her blog, saying I was insane and unhinged. I found out because someone send me the adress of her blog. And honestly? It was hilarious, to see her still being mad years later after I blocked her as if I had murdered her whole family. I didn't say anything about that post because it made me laugh and I don't know what she became, but I do know AO3 banned her for her behavior.

See the thing about Bryn and Cyrus is I feel that they have complimentary ways of expressing affection and intimacy. For Cyrus love is enthralling devotion while Bryn treats her loved ones like they are the most precious fragile beings, regardless of whether they are legendary heroes or ruthless killers. Why you don’t like Apollonia? (I get this vibe from u, but correct me if I’m wrong)

You're 100% correct about the vibes. 🤣🤣 I don't like Apollonia at all, whatsoever and it's because the Godfather fandom completely ruined her character for me. 🥰

It's not just the new Godfather enjoyers, like gen z or millennials but also the boomers. Apollonia is sadly a vessel for misogyny in the Godfather from Apollonia stans alone. I can't look past it even if I tried; I get Apollonia stans commenting nasty shit on my gifsets of Kay (that's how annoying + bothered they are) and trying to start discourse over any post that highlights a miniscule positive thing about Kay Adams.

It's disgusting to see how Apollonia is glorified for being the quiet, submissive and obedient housewife. She's what Michael "needs" and is the "perfect wife" and the ones that put Apollonia on a pedestal like this are misogynists, vehemently sprout the nastiest shit about Kay and women like Kay that you'll ever hear, talk about how Apollonia could have "changed" and "fixed" Michael (dude is beyond redemption and is almost a sociopath) and could have birthed him "lots of babies". Literally, that's all Apollonia is "known" for and loved for, it's pathetically sad. The bar really is in hell.

So while Apollonia is praised for all of these hypothetical scenarios, Kay and women like Kay are shit on, ridiculed and picked apart to pieces. It's disgusting and whether it's a boomer enjoyer or someone my age, they'll be saying the exact same shit like it's scripted or clockwork or something about Apollonia every single time.

Apollonia's young age is also glorified even though she's a minor/child, and don't even get me started on the scene of her undressing in front of Michael--I know it's a little off topic and more about Simonetta as an actress but the fact that there's grown ass men fawning over a minor's breasts makes me want to actually vomit.

Putting aside the misogynistic culture some Godfather fans have placed upon Apollonia here, I don't like the character itself. To me, it's obvious she was a filler, empty character Mario Puzo wrote and used to develop Michael's character development because she's literally never mentioned again unless you want to count Michael confessing to Kay he "slept with someone" in the book while he was abroad.

Apollonia was never in love with Michael and Michael wasn't in love with her. Apollonia's father got giddy at the idea of his daughter's beauty bringing in a rich, powerful and influential man who was the son of a Vito Corleone. Nobody cared what else Michael had to offer the Vitelli family besides reputation, wealth and physical protection. Nothing even mentions if anyone cared how Michael would treat Apollonia but oh boy, Michael showed it well. He literally refused to let her leave home for a week and all he did was have sex with her over and over again. And every single time, Apollonia would just get up, shower, fuck off and do something and Michael would just lay there. She would just do whatever he wanted and yet somehow, the Godfather fandom is screaming "true love" and "soulmate" when it's literally just Michael being horny. I need y'all to understand this man was thinking with his dick only.

I don't care who likes/stans Apollonia, all I want is for people to be respectful about the whole Apollonia and Kay thing. If Apollonia's as amazing as some people claim, then I'd sure hope she can brought up without the mention of Michael being in a relationship with her and without dissing Kay in the same sentence (IMPOSSIBLE CHALLENGE EDITION).

Apollonia and the whole Sicily arc is so far gone and damaged to me that I just skip that scene when watching the movie and pretend it didn't happen because of all the bullshit that went out in the fandom and is still ongoing today. 😐

hello! i simply must know more about lockwood & co. i've seen a couple reblogged posts about it and it does look like something i'd vibe with, but is there anything you want to share in support of it? are there any characters you are particularly attached to? what are the vibes? i would simply love to learn more.

Ahhh I am HAPPY to ramble all about it. Honestly its hard to pick any ONE thing because everything is so good! Like it could easily have been a kids show but its not? The dialogue is so wonderfully written. The shots and cinematography is SO beautiful and artistic and there is so much care in the craft that its been getting rave reviews from absolutely everyone! Critics, fans, general public? You name it.

The show is based on a book series by Jonathan Stroud. Basically its zombie apocalypse where you have to fight the zombies but instead of zombies its ghosts and the only one who can actually see/hear/feel the zombies are children-teens but the danger they pose is to everyone in society as a whole! The vibe is slightly spooky but so completely cozy. Its very hard to describe but it blends the two very well! Its a show I can rewatch again and again and always find something new or not get bored of. Its just that well made and easy to rewatch (and getting me to rewatch 1 thing twice within the same year isn't the easiest task lol).

All the characters are amazing but especially the main trio! They're my perfect blorbos. They're all traumatized weirdos and the best found family and if you're looking for a ship to fall in love with Lockwood and Lucy are so repressed and SO in love and the slow burn is amazing but doesn't feel like a slow burn cuz the intimacy between them is so perfect!!

Also! One thing I absolutely LOVE about the show is its emphasis on friendship not being lesser of a priority than romantic love. George is so important as a character. He's not just the third wheel to Lockwood and Lucy and they show that in such a clear way and its really cool cuz i haven't seen many other shows do that.

The actors are all so amazingly talented. I love them so much. If you go down my blog you'll see its mostly Lockwood and Co and locklyle gifsets! I definitely say its worth it. I put it on casually one day as something to unwind to after a long day and immediately got obsessed! Another thing I have to say is the show takes place at night mostly but you can SEE STUFF! It's not Game of Thrones S8 levels of dark screen. Everything is visible and so very clear. The colors in this show are especially beautiful and used very nicely to add to the storytelling.

This got a little long (can you tell I love the show and can ramble so much more about it if given the chance too? Lol). Do I think it makes perfect sense for, instead of Alfred raising Bruce Wayne, Fran Fine was Bruce’s primary caretaker until he got emancipated at sixteen and they still regularly send each other greeting cards at random times through the year? jurassic world dominion rewatch thoughts: the alan/ellie edition (+ some extra)

all my rambles about my favorite dino boos! and then some misc. thoughts about everything else. but y’all know my priorities.

i love the effusive affection that laura dern brings to ellie sattler, and i love that it’s just as present here as in the first movie. i skimmed through the alan/ellie scenes in the junior novelization to try to refresh my memory before writing some fic (sidenote: not super helpful, since it was from an earlier script draft), and in that, they had her say, “you look ... the same” when she first saw him. in the movie, she’s like “you look the same!” with all the world’s enthusiasm and fondness in it and it’s truly just a whole other vibe and it is THE ellie sattler vibe, god bless this movie for preserving it so lovingly. (see also: her screaming ferociously waving a fiery torch at a dinosaur in a dark cavern. i’m sorry, she is one of the most perfect people in all of fiction.)

i think one of the reasons alan and ellie are such a great couple in the original is that they’re such a UNIT and vibe so well and are clearly so aligned in their work and their values that they come off like a force to be reckoned with when they’re together. (which, how wonderful to see a man and a woman in a relationship portrayed like that in pop culture! i wish we had one million more of those.) and i love how they immediately get back into the swing of that! there’s a few moments -- one where they’re talking to ramsay in the helicopter and one when they first start talking to ian again -- where they both get really indignant and are protesting what they’re hearing in unison and it’s extremely charming and extremely in keeping with their original movie energy.

alan snatching the picture of them out of sight! alan making her improv’d iced tea aka water with like nine teabags inside! ellie not judging the sight of that improv’d iced tea in the slightest because she gets this man!

he’s the one she trusts!!!!!!! even after all this time!!!! always!!!!! (i’m already anticipating the gifset pairing that with her saying “you’re still the best, i mean that” in jp3. i’m a simple person with simple wants.)

falling asleep on ya ex-man on a long plane ride!!!!!!! YES! it tickles me thinking about how much time they got to spend together alone during that journey. and it tickles me extra that it ended in accidental cuddling. you just reunited like yesterday!

poor alan having to learn that ian slid into ellie’s dms without knowing what that means, and THEN being confronted with the elaborate world of pretentious hipster coffee like two seconds later. someone help the man!

i fully adore the fact that they narrowly escape death by one zillion gigantic locusts, wearing goofy scientist suits, and STILL get THAT swept up in an “oh, hello, our bodies are suddenly pressed together” moment. YES!

i also love every bit of sneaky sneaking and espionage they do at biosyn, they are so in sync at being hilarious. when ramsay finds them and they’re like “oh noooooooo! we got so lost!!!! a ha ha ha!!!!”. ART.

i love the whole sequence in the mining caves, it’s just so great. ellie’s long jokey-but-sincere apologetic ramble about how she should have left alan alone where he was happy and the way he cuts it off by telling her he wasn’t happy!!!!!!!!!!! maisie asking if they have kids!!!!!! (i personally am not one to play around with the whole “alan is secretly the father of ellie’s kids” thing because i don’t want them to have that much drama in their lives and that would inevitably bring Extreme Drama, but laura dern’s delivery of “nooooooooo, no no” or whatever ellie said was, um, Suspicious. girl! what kinds of fires are you trying to fuel with this??) also, just the delicious horror of them being trapped in the dark trying to get through that gate with dinosaurs on their tails, and the use of darkness in such a simple and creepy way, feels VERY classic first-movie horror. and literally everything ian says in the process of trying to open the gate = *chef’s kiss*

ellie crying and saying “alan, alan!” after the car toppled over when she was in the front seat and he was in the back, sob!!!! they’re so physically close but she’s still so upset to be removed from him!!!! also: excellent jp throwback to her saying his name 829375398 times. another good one: when she’s loving on the bb dinosaur and she’s like “alan! you never get used to it!” even though she’s in a conversation with two people. and alan is simply the heart eyes emoji. I LOVE IT!

alan holding her when they’d all just narrowly escaped the big bitey dinosaur on the ladder (i’m good at dino knowledge) = a+++++ survival snuggles

i wasn’t quite sure how to read the moment where ellie runs out while rexy is fighting the giganotosaurus and losing -- is it that she’s trying to protect rexy? if so: absolutely deranged and very delightful of her. (i mean, rexy did save them all from a raptor-y death back in the day! she’s a good girl!)

the kiss remains perfect and such good payoff after our 20 years of suffering!!!!!!!! i just love how they’re standing beforehand in this very pretend-casual way where they are both clearly hoping it’s gonna happen; the whole scene is just so sweetly choreographed. and then the hugging and sweet nothings in the background!!!!

alan grant and ellie sattler, fighting the good fight, cozily bantering while ellie adjusts his neckwear! exactly as it should be. <3

and a few other non-grant ‘n sattler bits:

as someone from cold climes, i love that this movie has some snow in it! dinos in the snow is a visual my heart has been yearning for. (that scene of blue and beta running around in the snow hunting so joyfully! I WEEP!)

maisie flippin’ the bird with both hands was SUCH an iconic over-it teenager moment, i cannot wait for the gif. i really like that we got to spend time with her over two movies -- a first for a jurassic ‘verse kid character!

as i’ve said before, i really love claire as a character and i appreciate that she gets such a complicated arc over these three films and that she feels the weight of wanting to atone so heavily. this time around i was really struck by that sequence of her alone in the forest, and just the idea that that was her kind of gauntlet where she reckoned up close with the full weight of what she had been complicit in. idk. i just really liked it. i love claire dearing!

sidenote: that blind creepy dinosaur with the edward scissorhands was so iconic and disturbing. is it an herbivore that just kills things for fun with dismissive smacks of its creepy-ass fingies????

also, owen having to hold claire back when maisie was on the ladder and the dino chomped on it! i have a lot of feelings about fierce mama bear claire. (and owen being like “you’re her mom, you have to save her” as the plane was crashing! sob! i also loved how he had a beat of just smiling at her lovingly in this moment in spite of everything. i know we’re all pretty burned out on this particular chris, but between these movies and andy dwyer i must admit he’s delivered some performances i find very endearing. beta in the baby backpack!!!!!!!!! he read alan’s book ... on tape! oh, owen grady. you fine, but you simple.)

OWEN STRANGLED A DILOPHOSAURUS WITH HIS BARE HANDS TO SAVE HIS MISSUS. and then said “go on, git!” to make it run back into the woods. THAT’S CHIVALRY. THAT’S ROMANCE.

i am not much of an action movie person and i usually zone out during a lot of action, but the whole malta sequence is freaking rad.

i really liked dodgson as the antagonist here; i had totally forgotten the first time i watched it that he was the one working with nedry to smuggle the dino embryos out, and i think it brings it really satisfyingly full-circle to have him come back. and i’m very down with elon musk-y figures being dragged through the mud in our pop culture right now!

i was talking to my bf earlier about how i really love these movies because they’re about academics and researchers who are sincerely driven by their love of their field and their love of the natural world, and how it’s interesting that our two protagonists from JW are from the military and from corporate culture ... but then both of those institutions are revealed to be corrupt and destructive, and our heroes wind up happy living out alone in the woods. i like that journey.

owen and kayla having that long frightening escape from the feathery ice dino and then owen saying “what an asshole” is just peak jurassic universe joy to me. yeah! what an asshole!

i so appreciate how vibrant and fun and fully developed kayla and ramsay and santos all feel. i felt like they fit into the mix with the other characters so well and i would also love to watch their continuing adventures. HINT HINT, WORLD! (i also loved getting to see franklin and zia a bit more, they are both such fun characters! and owen getting to reunite with his raptor-training bestie barry!)

also, santos is SUCH A GREAT VILLAINOUS LADY, omg. i love her clear commitment to life/work boundaries in that she always makes sure she’s getting paid extra before she puts any additional work in. (i’m telling you man. kayla and santos: complicated dinosaur smuggler gfs spinoff!!!!!!!!) also she looks god damn flawless, which is important in the dino smuggling line of work. the way that white shirt/dress/whatever-it-was drifted around her was just such iconic imagery. you KNOW there’s a great plot lurking somewhere where she’s imprisoned and gets released on the condition of participating in some complicated dino-related adventure.

obviously i am sentimental about blue watching her humans from afar in their remote cabin home and i am sentimental about them bringing beta back to her and owen and her staring fondly at each other before they part. if being emotionally affected by a bond between a man and the raptor he raised and trained from birth is ridiculous, well, then, call me ridiculous!

come on, those ending shots of the dinosaurs coexisting with the animals were magical.

i love the message of “no one can afford to just sit and do nothing right now” in this current climate and i love that it’s ellie sattler delivering it. YEAH!

hey its time for some cecil brainrot<3<3 keep in mind ive never seen the movie unfortunately so i go off fan characterization etc. but since i saw the quote on THIS gifset im sooo headcanoning cecil as autistic. (im autistic so im right, obviously) austistic!cecil who has to deal with frequent mental shutdowns (because it sounds like that's what it's describing there) and reader just holding him (pressure stims for him--i'd imagine pressure type stims would be his favorite, and so he loves when you hold him tight) through it and helping him stim it out and eughhhghh hes my boyfriwnd and i need to hold him in my arms. im not a writer at all so i honestly do not know how to get my thoughts out but yeah . <3 cecil

I would definitely recommend watching the movie if you can. Because I 100% agree with your characterization here.

When watching the movie I absolutely got neurodivergent vibes of some kind from both Cecil and Harry (which also made me kinda 😬 because of the stigma of neurodivergence and violence). So autistic!Cecil I can absolutely get behind.

He repeatedly tries to stop Harry from killing people and is mad at him for doing so which speaks to a strong sense of justice.

And of course the self-medication with drugs and alcohol which is more likely in broke neurodivergent people (and well Cecil is anything but wealthy). He does actually take pills too (it's not specified what type so could 'just' be painkillers).

Pressure stims sound perfect for him. Just either holding him really tightly or laying on him like a human weighted blanket. Just 🥺

this is hard to answer since s2 hadnt aired yet when i was first supposed to be answering this(sorry) but honestly probably just how much they fucking feel for each other, like i've said it before but i love the competent career life women turned absolute dumbass in love trope, these idiots are so in love and it made them so stupid sometimes and i love that and then when they finally got their shit together they're just so soft for each other while being general badasses and it makes me feeeel things

20. What made you decide to ship them?

I don't know that I decided to ship them as much as I saw a gifset with their height difference that grabbed me by the throat which had me promptly tuning into the 1st episode....and then lucy said 'whistler' utterly laden with history, that whole first scene blistering with Tension^TM

and i don't know if i was simply because it was a procedural or a blonde and a brunette or just the VIBES^TM but i remember my chest simply sparking as i was transported back to high school hunched over my family computer in the dark trawling through passion and perfection and live journal and personal webpages, message boards, reading full on manifestos and watching carefully pulled scene compilations, cabeson necklaces, and jj and emily clothes swapping, sara and cathrine vs sara/sofia, kelly and sabrina's 'blatant' flirting on charlie's angels, eagle eye frame by frame watches of sam and janet and scully and reyes, abby and kate from the flagship ncis {i stopped watching after kate died so i never got into ziva and abby) the list could go on forever but this is where my heart was when watching that first ep and then i got to the end of that first ncis hawai'i episode one minute lucy was apologizing and the next she and kate were full on Making.Out and I was stunned

so many years had passed since those subtext ships i mentioned with so much growth for queer rep but watching the pilot of an ncis end with 2 women who were romantically entangled front and center, main character main text fucking floored me anyway

and i was done, gone this ship had chosen me and there was no going back *snorts*

whatever the future holds for thempossiible the impacts of the strike and whatnot no one can take away the 2 glorious seasons we did get

Thank you for the ask! I was hoping I'd get this question even though it is SO HARD :')

I have people in mind for the cast of my WIPs, but I am fully aware that they might be too old, or not tall enough, or any other manner of obstacles. The following are my 'head canon cast' - the people I'd put in a gifset in a 'movie magic' kind of casting.

For the Adventures of Sitora Lux:

Sitora - Dianna Agron

I have had such a hard time finding an actor who has the youthful, unassuming joy that I picture in Sitora. Dianna has it. The main thing that I'd look for in casting Sitora would be her smile. Never mind that she's 5'5" and Sitora's a cool 6'. That's what movie magic is for 😂

Raelynn Thenorin - Danielle Rose Russell

Saw a gifset on Tumblr and just thought "That's my Raelynn". In particular, her bone structure just makes her look so much like how I pictured Rae. ❤️

Lance Marrowstone - Malachi Kirby

Just look at my boy! Lance is a major sweetheart and a badass fighter, and it was important to me that I choose a Black British actor for him.

Trix - Brenda Song

Brenda is who I pictured when I wrote Trix, and she's just got that glamorous, superior look down pat. She's older than the character is supposed to look, but we have time powers here.

Protagonist

It's very uncool how much Timepiece Chardonnay suits my protagonist: he's got that baby face and the typecasting of being a brooding lil guy. But part of me really does want to see him go completely feral and murder a 300lb Viking.

Matthew Raynott - Dan Stevens

I was agonising about the casting for Matthew when I realised that I literally named him after Matthew from Downton Abbey. Is it any coincidence that Dan is the perfect fit? I've been on Pinterest literally staring at gifs of my blorbo for days now.

For Chrissie's of London:

Silas Chrissie - Aaron Taylor Johnson

I don't know how to tell you that Silas Chrissie is somewhere near the midpoint of Aaron Taylor Johnson's 2012-2022 detwinkification process. Also, Silas is NOT meant to look this good with a moustache.

Jacques de Éloïe - Louis Garrell

A jawline built for angst. Big brown universe eyes to get lost in. That's my boy!

Loretta Cramps - Helen George

Can rock a period look? Check. Can rock a bob? Check. Totally nails Loretta's down-to-earth, smartest-person-in-the-room vibe? Yes!

Amanda Suffolk - Jessica Chastain

Absolutely frothing at the mouth for Jessica Chastain in any period pieces. The only problem with her taking on Amanda as a fairly small role is that she would totally steal the show.

Look, this whole exercise does make me a little uncomfortable. Am I going to get cancelled in the future if any of these actors end up being problematic? Maybe. Is this an official 'author's endorsement' for casting my stuff? Hell no, this is just so my followers can see who I see in my head. A small part of me does find this desperately creepy too >_< but also it's been fun.

Me at myself in the mirror at 3:50 in the afternoon one day: the thing about the sequel trilogy of star wars is that Finn was in the perfect position to be a foil to Kylo Ren and a hopeful spin on the character of Anakin Skywalker and the fact that nobody even noticed these parallels is a testament to the power of racism and the fact that bigotry actually makes you a worse writer

No but. Anakin’s out here with his introduction in the prequels as a slave, and it’s poorly done but implied that the pain and fear of that part of his life impacts how he interacts with… basically everything ever, and ultimately makes him susceptible to palpatine’s grooming; your mileage may vary on the ratio of canon to fanon in this interpretation but I think we can all agree being a slave from birth is gonna fuck a kid up and there’s a reason why George lucas chose this particular backstory for him.

So you’ve got Kylo Ren, eschewing a family that cares for him (please don’t talk to me about whatever the fuck was going on in those last jedi flashbacks first of all that’s bad writing babe and second, we’re talking solely about the expectations and possibilities established in force awakens because there’s not enough narrative or character consistency in the sequel trilogy to take. Anything as a whole there) in order to chase after this version of his grandfather that isn’t even the version he died as. Like! Whether you think Anakin/Vader achieved redemption or simply did one good thing at the end of his life, we all know that act of sacrifice on Luke’s behalf is. The definition of Star Wars. Vader choosing to do good in his last moments was what the original trilogy built towards and what the prequel trilogy always knew, and it’s this fucked up spectre over everything Kylo Ren says or does in Force Awakens because he’s out here pleading with the ghost of a man who is not real, he’s chasing Vader instead of Anakin Skywalker and ignoring the choices his own grandpa made in the name of… honouring him somehow???

And then there’s Finn. Finn who’s been raised since who knows when but definitely childhood given he has no name to remember to be a weapon for the First Order. Somehow I doubt they pay their stormtroopers, somehow I expect their education is more indoctrination than anything, somehow I doubt Finn was ever instilled with a sense that he as a person mattered – Finn’s a slave when we meet him. Unequivocally. And this man who’s known nothing else his entire life turns around and says “actually I think I will do good things or at least stop doing bad ones” and runs the fuck away, freeing himself. (and also Poe. Something something the act of saving others in turn saves you, this is my eternal soapbox but that’s not my point right now)

Finn is afraid, and very nearly runs away from the fight like “I’m safe so it doesn’t matter what happens to others” – when satisfied that Rey is safe (and under the impression that Poe is dead) he feels no strong compulsion to protect an ambiguous “rest of the galaxy” which honestly is exactly the vibes Anakin Skywalker has for pretty much all his life. Anakin would be a hero because the people he cared about wanted him to be. He fought for Padme and Obi-Wan and frigging Palpatine (and Ahsoka, I say, skipping outside the movies for a hot second because I love her) first and foremost, and the Jedi and the Republic because those were the causes his loved ones cared about. Finn has the opportunity to get away, to protect himself for the first time in his life, and he doesn’t have to worry about the few people he cares about so he very nearly goes for it.

Then the thing is, Finn, unlike Anakin, doesn’t let that fear rule him? He turns around and goes back for Rey, follows Poe, stays with the Resistance. He gets to be terrified but he also says that terror isn’t his only motivating factor, and that his self-interest matters less to him than the galaxy �� a choice Anakin struggled to make until literally the end of his life.

In conclusion, if the sequel trilogy had stuck to its guns and been about the tragedy of history as a cycle and the way we cling to idealised pasts and torture ourselves over might-have-beens (and also how that inaction and obsession with history allows the rise of fascism bc we spend so much time patting ourselves on the back for defeating ‘the bad guy’ we ignore what gave the bad guy power) – if it had been a well written story Finn should have been a hopeful twist to the story of Darth Vader, a man who faced the same struggles as Anakin but made better, kinder choices, which would bring it nicely full circle considering George Lucas was like. Very into star wars as being about Vader

But nope we had to have whatever that poorly written racist tug-of-war was instead. I don’t know about you but I need better fandoms

The way two different people I followed years and years ago for completely different things have posted in the last three days about missing julie and the phantoms... Fucking hell Netflix do you see what you've done. This show was for everyone and you've ruined it. Can you imagine if these people had posted about jatp before now. I might have actually verbally interacted with people I've quietly awkwardly admired for years.

Midway through Andor and I don't have very solid thoughts, at least not ones that haven't been said already by ppl much better at saying them, but something about seeing the ppl on Aldhani have this religious experience while all this shit goes on behind them. The way the whole chaos of the interspliced scenes quiets for a moment as the sky lights up - and then it's right back to the heist because they don't care because they can't afford to care and it's not their belief anyway

The empire sees the Eye as this thing to gawk at and Cassian and co are looking at the Eye as part asset part obstacle, just something to navigate through, and it would be easy to stay with their perspectives, but instead we get these moments of wonder and community, the culture that these people are trying to protect independently of all this galactic scale stuff - and then of course we also know that the empire is doing their level best to take that away too

I'm not phrasing any of this well but man that aspect of it really got to me and I'm not even sure why, fully
