Eggtober 11th 2023
"Wiggly": Flan with Berries
(Clip Studio Paint, Gouache Brush, Dry Gouache Brush, some Pencil brush for detail, and the Circle tool and perspective tool for the plate. 30 colors. Around 1 hour and 30 minutes.)
Speedpaint at the end of the post.
I really should do some one to one studies one of these days. The shine on top was insanely fun to draw and fiddle with as was the shine on the berries, but the shine on the plate syrup is a little funky to me. Need more practice for sure but still happy with how it turned out. There's more here that I like and had fun with than I struggled with.
Hopefully the syrup isn't too sticky for @lady-quen's Breadbugs.
Technically an eggy pudding more than an overt egg, but I think it counts for @quezify's Eggtober. Am I playing a little loose with the rules? Absolutely. But it's either studies of various eggy foods or I'm gonna become bootleg quezify and only draw fried eggs every day. Like, yes, I'm basically the egg understudy because for two years I have drawn an egg a day for an entire month because of Ruben, but, like. I'm not here to stand in a fabulous shadow or step on any fabulous toes. I am here to draw edible egg. That has been my shtick since the first Eggtober. I am of course TRYING to stick to dishes that are well known for eggs being a major ingredient or dishes where the egg element is overtly visible, obviously. So you're probably not going to see a cheesecake here for example. Not for Eggtober, anyway. Cheesecake is much more well known for the cream cheese and the crushed cookie crust.
But, as with last year, you will be getting more than just "Here's a fried Egg." @quezify has that covered for sure. But you will definitely see loads of fried eggs. I still have 2 very nice fried egg ideas in my queue of things to draw, after all. But sometimes you just gotta play around. "Yes, flan is not egg. But it's known for including lots of eggies to get that custard nice and smooth and spongy and bouncy. Cheating every once in a while with a souffle or a flan is allowed because I say so. There's egg in there as a main ingredient. Fight me. XD
In all seriousness, what counts and what doesn't is wibbly anyway. Because, like, mayo is very much an eggy thing. The eggs stabilize the emulsion. Without them the mayo would just be separated oil and acid like vinegar or lemon juice. Hollandaise is also egg for the same reason. But if you add the mayo to a bunch of tuna, well, that gets wibbly right? It's the basis of tuna salad and definitely has egg in it, but the tuna ratio makes it much more tuna than mayo and therefore much more tuna than egg.
Unless you're a purist that think egg must be overt and independent in the dish, in which case fried egg, boiled egg, poached egg, and scrambled egg are about all you can get away with here, with various sauces. Which would be a fun challenge, I guess. But I am much more a form and constitution neutral participant. If it looks like an egg or if it contains significant egg, I am counting that. That's how we do it here on my blog. Categories are just wibbly boxes and I am playing fast and loose with them. Because it's fun. (This isn't really directed at anyone by the way. I'm just an anxious bean and I like to preempt arguments rather than have them.)
But yeah, Egg King Ruben said I can draw whatever I want forever, so there. 😝

I feel like I've been thinking about Pikmin! Or am I thinking about the creatures that are cute from Pikmin! Well for me, I love the Breadbug because look at that face, it's just adorable! (Rude but cute, because they keep on taking them from me!) and the Gildemandwee because that face makes me wanna go run around like a dwarf bulborb! (All though they are extremely cute when they have the gold thingy on their backs) Their just so cute look at them!
And I also love the Puffstool because look at those eyes! It's just so cute, Funny but cute! (I am litterally laughing because a Puffstool looked like umm... I don't wanna say the word that would makes everyone feel uncomfortable) And it has those little legs! AHHH! So cute!!!

what to do when you are a leafling: mouldy bread
(warning for violence agisnt breadbugs)
The little Breadbug squeaked and ran behind the group, they shook and squeaked as the giant breadbug approached. Sherry tilted her head in recognition and floated up to the mushroom. She floated back down.
“I saw that in the plunder palace, it's a harmless breadbug but it’s infected with a mushroom.” Sherry said. She then floated towards Yonny.
“Yonny–” she started to say before she was cut off.
“One moment Sherry, Pom’s in the middle of a fight.” Yonny said. He took a deep breath and looked behind himself. Yonny’s eyes lit up in excitement at the sight of the shambling giant.
“Hehehe, seems that it’s not just the luminknolls that’s getting a visit tonight. Pom nearly killed all of the monsters there so make sure there's a camp to come back to assistent.” Yonny chuckled to himself before turning back to the comms.
Teleporting back to the giant Breadbug, Sherry floated down to the group once more as the Breadbug giant waddled ever closer. Oleander was hiding behind the small breadbug, shaking and sputtering tiny bits of poison. Dingo however could feel a semblance of a plan form in his mind.
“Jack, who is this tiny Pikmin?” Dingo said.
“That’s Oleander! A white Pikmin, they’re poisonous and can withstand poison and can spit acid!”
Acid, that could help slow the creature down. Dingo thought, he looked at Oleander and then at Sherry and Jack. He took off his headband, letting his leaves droop a little.
“Sherry, you teleport up there with Jack with some distance. Jack, lay this down in case all of it is poisonous, Olender–”
“Oleander!”
“Oleander, are you fast? If so, I want you to stop that monster’s approach.” Dingo smiled, pointing towards the Giant breadbug.
Oleander nodded and ran at a speed that Dingo hadn't seen any other Pikmin do. Oleander slipped under the Giant Breadbug, spraying strong acid around the area where Oleander could guess it would step next. Acid ate through the earth with such ease that it was almost scary. The Breadbug took its step and fell into the hole. It screamed as flecks of acid began to eat through its legs.
“NOW!”
Sherry grabbed Jack and appeared above the breadbug, jack tossed down the headband and motioned to Sherry to drop them there.
Jack fell, toothpick at the ready. Jack dug the toothpick into the giant moldy breadbug. It screamed and twitched, trying to buck Jack off of it. The sword glowed as the mushroom turned green. It grew bigger as the moldy breadbug crumpled to the ground from the weight. Jack jumped off, taking the sword with them.
The mushroom began to wither away, leaving the giant breadbug’s lifeless body behind and a sobbing breadbug in the slowly rising sun.
(I’m sorry I really am for that breadbug death)

A few years after the events of Pikmin 3, your boyfriend Louie decided to take you on a space vacation to PNF 404. After seeing you so excited hearing about his adventures with the cute little critters called pikmin, he just couldn't say no to taking you with him.
So here you are now, orbiting around the beautiful green and blue planet speckled with clouds, with your blond headed boyfriend by your side with his hand on your waist.
"Yippee, we made it without crashing this time."
You couldn't help but chuckle at his sarcastic remark, but you agreed. As well as the adorable tales of colorful little plant creatures, you also heard of the vicious creatures that also roam the terrain. Although some of them aren't too intimidating, such as dwarf bulborbs and breadbugs, you really hoped not to run into things like the burrowing snagret or the dreaded water wraith.
To take your mind off the terrors of PNF 404, you think about the savory tastes of Louie's cooking that you love so much, and lucky for you he brought lots of it. You hug Louie, still smelling that scent of fresh cooked food on him.
"Excited for our little getaway, little skitterleaf?"
"Of course!"
"Well then lets give the little fellas a visit."
With that, you landed on the life-filled planet, put on your space suits, and finally met the little pikmin you've been dying to see. After a fun filled day, you're snuggled up in the ship with Louie, staring into the forever ocean called the universe.
He snuggles into your neck and his breath tickles your neck, you roll around and scoot back into Louie, acting as the little spoon. It was relaxing for a while until you felt something against your thigh, you couldn't tell if it was Louie's leg or something else. Part of you hoped it was the latter. To test the waters, you moved around a bit, the groan you got from Louie told you everything.
"You in the mood big guy?"
"Always."
He suddenly rolled you on your back and pinned your arms down, giving you a seductive look before giving you a kiss that you couldn't help but melt into. His hands wandered your body and stopped at the zipper of your pajamas.
"May I?"
"Of course."
He then stripped both you and himself. He then kissed you again, pleasuring your nether region, biting your ear, and grinding himself on your leg. After more foreplay, he got into position, holding you close and his tip at your entrance.
"Ready?"
You nod, then he pushes himself inside. You both moan in pleasure, the initial stretch feeling amazing as ever. He starts moving at a moderate pace, groaning with each thrust into your body. Eventually those groans turn into full blown moans as you both get closer and closer to his climax. He holds onto your hips and kisses you as you both cum.
Louie lays down beside you, holding you close as he rubs your waist and kisses your body.
"You're so beautiful... I love you.."

He covers to both of you in a blanket, and you both fall asleep watching the stars. While there is more fun to be had, that can wait, after all you'll be out here all week.

Haha, my breadbug post has nearly a 100 notes. I genuinely do love the breadbug, I am absolutely gobsmacked by its design and just how cute it is. I'd say they're on par with the blue jelly bean aliens from Bloodborne, another pinnacle of enemy design.
Pikmin 4 in general has really just charmed in a way I wasn't expecting. It has flaws for sure, but I love the world and the creatures.

Hello my dearest enemy enthusiasts! Welcome back to Funky Friday, where we post about things that aren’t from Mario, twice a month! And let me raise you a question: Mario, Zelda, Pico Pets.... What do these all have in common? Why, they were all born from the brilliant mind of Mr. Shigeru Miyamoto, give or take one! So it’s only fair we shine the spotlight on another of his brainchildren... Pikmin!
And Pikmin has a LOT of funny enemies. Silly creatures in all shapes and sizes! I could hardly pick one... but I picked the Breadbug, because it’s so funny to look at. If you haven’t looked at it yet, take a moment to scroll up and do so!
There we go. Wasn’t that funny? It is absolutely worth a chortle. Hoo hoo!
The Breadbug is a sneaky little fellow- they like to take things, and drag them back into their den! Treasures, pellets, corpses... as long as they can carry it! As the player, it is also your objective to take things, and this obviously poses an inconvenience to you, so what will you do? You gotta wrestle for it!
Or rather, your Pikmin have to wrestle for it. It’s a dangerous game of tug of war! Should your Pikmin get dragged into the Breadbug’s den, they’ll die instantly! But with enough troops, you can overpower this wheaty fiend and drag it to your Onion instead... When that happens, the Onion will try to suck it up, and the poor Breadbug will smack its head against the top. Well, serves it right!
In fact, that’s probably the most effective method of dealing with them, since the Breadbug’s thick hide protects it from most attacks... and makes them look like a bread roll! Have I mentioned that? It is just so silly. Pikmin really knows how to strike a balance between realistic and whimsical, and I love it so!

Why, the Breadbug is so silly, you could easily forget they’re the namesake of a family of enemies, the breadbug family! Yup, Pikmin has an entire fictional taxonomy, and yes it’s an absolute delight. For example, the common Breadbug’s scientific name is Pansarus gluttonae!
But strangely, most members of the breadbug family are in fact... Bulborbs! Specifically Dwarf Bulborbs. You know Bulborbs, the common (and adorable) enemies with similarly stumpy legs? Turns out Dwarf Bulborbs aren’t at all related to the large Spotted Bulborbs from the grub-dog family! They just happen to be Breadbug-like creatures who evolved exactly like them. It’s absurd! I love it!
Fret not! If bread is what you seek, take a gander at the Giant Breadbug! This image is a lot smaller, so you’ll just have to trust me on the fact they’re giant. But this time, they look not like a roll, but a whole loaf of bread! And I’ve got to say, that’s some nice looking bread. I... want to eat it. A little bit. Is that strange? Either way, Giant Breadbugs are technically considered bosses, but they really just act like regular Breadbugs... they don’t even get a boss theme! They're called Pansarus gigantus, by the way.
Last but definitely not least, Hey! Pikmin introduces the Crumbug, which I believe is just the best name anything has ever had. I hope the localization team was real proud of that one! And also...it’s adorable! So tiny and bite-sized, and so tempting to pop a few of these into my mouth. You wouldn’t judge me, right?
The Crumbug doesn’t really act like a Breadbug, but more like a typical first platformer enemy, an easy foe with a simple pattern. Why they didn’t use Dwarf Bulborbs for this role is beyond me, but do you think I’ll complain?
This post has reached its end, and I genuinely am a little hungry for bread. Louie’s culinary Piklopedia entry describes the Breadbug as “bland and unimaginative”, and the Giant Breadbug as “flavorless”, but I am willing to believe he is just a bread hater! I won't let him crush my dreams of eating a Breadbug, no matter how long I need to wait for the post-apocalypse!
...I need to calm down. Weird enemies are my friends, not food! What’s come over me? I’ll see you all in the next post, which will hopefully be a non-edible Mario enemy! Ta-ta!

i think the entirety of the chaos kin arc is my favorite scene in kiu, to the point that the next chapters after 22 are almost underwhelming to me, the emotional weight of the events that unfold have so much meaning to me and add so much to all of the involved characters, i almost wish the chaos kin arc had been a sequel centered entirely around that story and given it even more depth and focus!
i love the little cutscenes in pikmin when you’re introduced to your first individual of a new type, they’re always so cute ;-; when the flying pikmin do their little flips and the yellow pikmin in 1 and 2 hum and swing their little heads and the cute lil sounds the white pikmin make and aaa!!!
💕 tell us about one of your favorite characters and why you like them!
i love dark pit!! so very much!!! he’s been very meaningful to me for years and i just think his personality and origins are not only neat but also interesting to try and expand on, i guess! someone like him would have a confusing and easily misunderstood, including to himself, line of thinking and set of emotions and i think that’s probably something i just relate to heavily. that and i just want him to be loved and happy someone please give this boy a hug
i love every pikmin i think every single individual pikmin is cute and unique and special and i hate watching them die. they’re such hard workers and they all deserve so much!! pikmin have been with me my whole life and i just think they’re neat!! every kind is so interesting and i’m so excited to meet even more of them someday! i wonder all the time what kinds of pikmin are out there that we and olimar have yet to discover!! i know i’ll love them, too!!

i have so many kiu and pikmin facts locked inside my tiny brain!! i hope these ones are interesting!!
there is no ‘th’ sound in japanese, so thanatos’ name is written out as tanatos, which was mistakenly kept so in the english manuals for the nes kid icarus! this is rectified moments after thanatos’ introduction in chapter 7! palutena’s name, likewise, is technically a mistranslation of a form of shortening ‘pallas athena’, though hers was of course kept in place!dark pit’s lines in english about ‘if i were a copy, why would i kick my own butt?’ were actually along the lines of ‘why do you say i’m the copy?! i’m alive!!’ in the original japanese, which i think is SO MUCH MORE INTERESTINGin chapter 25, pit and hades shout each other’s name before hades sneezes, but in japanese, pit is the one who sneezes, and it even comes with a unique dialogue sprite that is never seen in the english versions!there are THREE WHOLE CHAPTERS we missed out on that were cut early in development and there’s no info on what happened in them, but god i wish they’d make a kiu hd remaster and add them in or something

Eggtober 29th 2023
"Tell Me More": Korean Egg Bread or Gyeran-ppang
(Clip Studio Paint, Gouache Brush, Gouache Blender, Overlay adjustment layers to get the crispy brown bits to look right. 16 colors? 45 ish minutes.)
Egg 2 for today. You get the 3rd egg I did tomorrow. Gonna queue it.
So yeah, didn't know humans already invented the perfect food. Bread with an egg on top. What more can I say? I've seen a couple recipes suggest additions like sausage, bacon, or cheese. The main bread recipe seems to be a sweet vanilla flavor, so I guess this just tastes like the best savory-sweet brekkie combo? I want to try it so bad.
But alas, I'm stuck drawing it until I clean up enough space to make some at home. We have a marble slab counter specifically for bread baking and bread pans and everything, I just never have space because our kitchen is chaos. But maybe someday~
I wonder how @lady-quen's breadbugs will go about tackling this treat?

There is a brief stage where, admittedly, the egg white looks like that danish cheese filling instead of egg white (to put it very politely) so yes, I do see it. But shush, it quickly looks like egg and then delicious so don't @ me. XD
Speaking of which I cleaned up that meme image I made about Eggtober 1st 2023. I'll slap that under a cut just in case I need it...
I swear guys, my eggs accidentally looking suggestive is not on purpose even if that would be incredibly funny. But hey, 3 people saying a thing made me draw my ancient video game blorbo and the silly Chopper meme, so there's that. XD (The meme is free to use with credit, by the way.)

"So Just One Did All This?!" Shrimp Fried Rice
(Clip Studio Paint, Gouache Brush. 12 Colors, around an hour? Maybe longer, I took a break for my wrist and then went down the youtube rabbit hole and forgot to time it.)
Title obligatorily references the "You're telling me a shrimp fried this rice?" joke that everyone makes.
Mom's been really into scrambled eggs for breakfast, and occasionally, if we have leftover rice, I'll whip up some fried rice with them. But on the very rare occasion we have leftover shrimp, I'll add some shrimp and make shrimp fried rice.
Didn't have any frozen pea/carrot mix to pop in, but I made this a week ago and have been waiting for the energy to draw it ever since, and since the Omurice I drew turned out well, I decided to take a crack at it.
Not much to say about this one other than shrimp fried rice is tasty as fuck. Especially if you make it with lard or bacon grease or just straight up put bacon in with the shrimp.
Hopefully @lady-quen's breadbugs don't get lost in all that rice!

As you can see, I started drawing on the wrong layer. "Hmm, wonder why the rice texture is so rough no matter the pressure? Am I using the wrong brush?" And nah, it's just the wrong layer so it doesn't interact with the background color properly. Sometimes I'm just a goober.
