author's note: the thing with ike is partially based of a personal experience LMAO. also i think there's tense inconsistencies but i don't wanna revise smh, so sorry ab that!

kyle broflovski

kyle loves to bake with you whenever it rains, it helps him relax. whenever he starts to hear even a drizzle he calls you to come over😫

you guys rarely use a prepared recipe though, and whatever you use to make it changes every time, since you're just winging it most days and trying a bunch of stuff

and you guys love to add random shit to it, like whatever you can reach, you just grab it and dump it in.

you guys are constantly giggling and yelling so it never gets boring or quiet, it's literally so fun

literally everything is funny to you, like kyle mixed up the flour and the sugar and you both found it hilarious??

you guys also put music on and dance every few minutes, and while you wait for them to finish

and sometimes ike comes into the kitchen and joins you guys, until kyle makes him leave against your protests 😔

once, ike got on the counter somehow and smeared the batter everywhere when you two weren't looking. that's why kyle doesn't let him stay long most of the time anymore

it was so funny because you both thought it was shit 😨

you guys were laughing until your stomachs hurt when you realized, but sheila was NOT amused 💀

tbh it took longer to clean than to make the brownies since you made such a mess, and lowk made it worse.. but cold brownies are better anyway!

stan marsh

stan would literally be so prepared. he has a recipe sheet, all the ingredients, toppings, and supplies all laid out neatly on the counter.

he'll probably want to add some weird ass shit to it too, like marshmallows, or peanut butter

"trust me it'll taste good! i swear, i've had it before. you're gonna thank me later"

and somehow it does turn out good?? 😧

he'll probably get cute matching aprons for both of you omg??

he partially takes the lead, being kind of bossy tbh but we love dominant stan

and he's definitely a perfectionist, like he'll measure everything meticulously. if you add even a drop more of something than the recipe calls to tease him, he'll lowk panic tbh

and if you try to taste the batter he'll probably lecture you about how dangerous it is 😒

"don't do that dumbass, you could get salmonella. or e. coli or something."

before putting it into the oven he'll probably write a cute little note on it for you with a toothpick or something to surprise you 🤭

luckily, you guys finish up fairly quickly, since stan's so neat and organized

unfortunately you're not really baking with him, you're baking for him..

does nothing to help you except tell you how he likes it and how he wants it to be

"um, no y/n. i want more vanilla in it. usually i eat them with a lot of vanilla"

he's kind of excited though, he loves when you do stuff like this for him, it literally makes his heart swell 😓

he'd probably be super close to you all the time to supervise you and shit, hugging your waist closer to him

you do the opposite of what he says sometimes just to bug him, because the look of exasperation on his face is so cute 😕

"oh my god- you stupid FUCK i wanted m&ms. what normal person eats brownies with almonds??" (almond brownies are fire btw)

he's so funny when he gets mad too, and you keep having to stop to catch your breath

but honestly, sometimes, he's not actually upset or mad at what you're doing. he just does it more and exaggerates just because he knows it'll make you laugh, and he loves seeing you smile so widely because of him

he's so impatient too, when they're baking he keeps asking when they're going to be done

when you're finally done, he'll tell you how good they are to justify all the stress he caused 🙏

"see? i told you it would be better with m&m's. and the almonds aren't too bad either, i guess."

kenny would agree but he'd be really cautious and scared to do anything

he still tries to make himself as helpful as possible, bringing you everything you need, giving you suggestions or ideas

you have to beat him away with a spoon sometimes because he keeps trying to have all the chocolate 😭

he feels bad that he can't do much, but he doesn't want to accidentally kill himself

so he opts to hinder you support you emotionally as well, just hugging your waist from behind and encouraging you with kisses ☹️

and just like kyle, you guys put on music while baking

but once you knocked over a whole bag of flour dancing, and he was just laughing hysterically 💀

and you yelled at him to help you clean up, but he's writhing on the floor, cackling and coating himself in flour

and then when he's helping you clean, he probably knocks over the batter or something and he starts laughing his ass off again

it ends up taking a while to finish, since you and kenny are both a mess and have to restart tons of times

but eventually, when you finish, he'll probably ask you to take some home for karen and his siblings 😢

***TBB SPOILERS***

My primary takeaway from these last six episodes is that Hunter and Crosshair ARE SO MARRIED OH MY GOD. They do everything together, even little chores.

And my Crosshair-is-Hunter's-second agenda continues to thrive; since their reunion, Hunter has hardly made a decision without checking with Crosshair first.

The way I cackled at Crosshair looking up at a ship careening in the sky and being all put upon: "Uh-huh. That's the idiot I married. Unfortunately."

And then the way he hurriedly reached for his binocs when they saw the ship crash, and how the camera lingers on him to show his relief, sob. I see you and thank you for your service, shippers on the crew.

Finally a glimpse of the cadets! Thinking about them tasting ice cream for the first time makes me want to cry. How many clones have never tasted it...

I like that "Identity Crisis" was like a mirror of "Confined," but I think it could have been 15 minutes. To be fair to them, I feel this way about like 75% of the franchise.

So we were all very wrong about what was in the Vault. What was Palpatine even going in there for, honestly. I do quite like this foreshadowing of the Inquisitorius though.

The ominous hint about Emerie's past is interesting. Is the implication that Nala Se took Omega under her wing and abandoned the rest of the Omega clones? Like Jango, I guess.

I love that Tarkin's cameos are all about funding. Something about the Imps squabbling over government spending just delights me. I wonder if the end of that conversation actually means he's not going to be killed by the clones but by Palpatine instead? That'd be kind of disappointing tbh.

Hilarious to me that Fennec got an entire episode and Cad Bane got like two minutes of screentime. Like Asajj, he knows when to stay out of the plot. They did my boy Todo justice though, love that dumb droid.

I, a plushie enthusiast, approve of how this is adamantly a pro-plushie show. But how am I supposed to believe that Omega, who missed Lula so much she effectively cloned her, was just going to leave her there??? I guess that whole scene was just a way to remove her and the goggles from the ship before it exploded.

I'm in the middle of writing like five different Tech/Wrecker whump fics and even I wouldn't have written CX-2 effectively shooting Wrecker. My heart!!!

I was so worried about Gonky. Glad he's okay.

"Point of No Return" needed 15 more minutes, actually. I continually find it so jarring how quickly this show breezes through reactions. It would've been nice to see at least a little more from the Batch at the sight of their ship being blown up.

That ending...was not for me. Crosshair missing that shot after he was given an entire episode to figure out what was wrong and meditate is such a frustrating choice. What even is going to be the arc here? Is it really going to be him abandoning his weapon entirely? That should be an upswing in the plot, but at this point it'd be more believable for him to be like, "Man, fuck this, I'm over it," lmao.

I'm glad Omega at least chose to get captured. Everyone knows I've been pissed about the anti-heroic messaging of this show from the start, and given how afraid I was that they would just abandon the other clones, I'm very relieved Omega's had this arc of worrying about them. But it's so silly to retread this line of plot after the three kickass episodes covering this exact thing. These next episodes are absolutely about to be messy af, and it's a bummer how it'll take away from the impressive clarity of the first three.

Why does this show keep cutting the titular team off at the knees?? Seems like Omega will probably work with Emerie and Nala Se to contact the Batch and Echo/Rex with the coordinates, but that will mean that Hunter's group will once again be lost and searching in the meantime. And they didn't even get to find her the first time!

Truly the quintessential fandom show. Half of it makes me tear my hair out in frustration and the other half makes me shriek in delight.

Headcanon A: what I think realistically

i think hw link takes his job very seriously. i haven't played hw but i just get this vibe from him. he's proud of what he's accomplished and also it's gone to his head a little bit. it's canon he has an overconfidence issue but i think that's the sword talking more than him and it backfires horrendously, leaving him incredibly doubtful of his skills.

Headcanon B: what I think is fucking hilarious

hmm... if you think of this like funny as in completely and totally opposite of canon, then i think that canon is leading you to believe that link is a Tough Manly Hot Guy but i think he's a soft lil wet cat. babygirl, if you will. the most pathetic creature on the planet. also i loved mizu's inclusion that asau warriors bakes??? i'm fucking in love with that. housewife coded. COMPLETELY and totally opposite of what u think hw link would be on the tin.

Headcanon C: what is heart-crushing and awful but fun to inflict on friends

realllllly leaning into the horrors of war and the ptsd that comes with that. hyrule warriors haha fun hack and slash game!!! but what if you think about how this is a war going on and people are dying. how that affects a person's psyche long term. depression, ptsd, etc etc etc. this kind of thing can get really bad really quick.

Headcanon D: what would never work with canon but the canon is shit so I believe it anyway

GAY AND TRANS AF BABEEEEYYYYYY!!!! so like in-game cia and lana are like "link is destined for zelda and we're sad about it bc WE like him!" and it's a love triangle going on but i'm ignoring that completely. link is not destined for zelda, they can try it if they want but i don't think it'll work out with these two. rlly hard for me to write a cishet character tbh, they gotta have SOMETHING lgbt. i also can't write anyone that's allistic....

say what?! you're my favorite person anon!

let's see... in general, the black bulls have MANY amazing friendships that didn't get enough exploration or weren't explored at all, potential friendships, underrated friendships, friendships that could've offered the characters a lot of depth and growth, and so on, may be personal because I love gauche and luck but I think their characterizations are so unexplored compared to most BBs, so thank you for giving me the chance to ramble a little about their potential.

starting with honorable mentions:

Luck with Zora (both lost their parents and lived their life hanged by their shadows while acting overly joyful despite their suffering), with Yami, and we can never get enough of his brother-sister dynamic with Vanessa!

Gauche with Noelle (both tsunderes with big/little sibling issues), with Magna, and with the other girls besides grey be it him vibing with nero or bickering with vanessa.

top 7 from least favorite to most favorite:

Gauche & Charmy - again I think gauche should be around the female members more, but I feel like it'll be hysterical to see him spend more time with his senior equal in age, charmy!

Luck & Gauche - I think this is the best and most wasted friendship for each of them because we already have magna & zora as a duo to parallel them and it'd have been interesting to see them working side by side with their shared experience of being possessed by elves and similar character stories... most fans think of gauche's dynamic with grey as his next natural step in development, but I've always felt that him and luck would've made a lot more sense.

2023 AO3 stats/reflections

Hmmm well I took the leap and finally calculated my 2023 stats, and I'm a little shocked at the word count I reached, mostly because I don't remember writing that much. It's certainly a step up from my dazzling (1) 2.5k fic output from 2022 😂

Fandom breakdown

1 狂飙 fic ("Bolt from the Blue" - I think I have my friend who's not even in the fandom to thank for the hit count because most of the fandom is Chinese speaking, I wrote for one of the more minor ships, and I wrote it in English 💀 But my friend tells me they revisit it whenever they need vibe inspo... the highest honor tbh)

6 成化十四年/TSOMD fics, including wrapping up "Like a Magpie", which I hilariously started posting when it was 12/14 chapters finished in 2020... then posted ch.13 in 2021... and then... yeah)

9 Oz fics!

Reflections

Well! Here's to more fic writing in 2024. I have a couple of TSOMD wips I'm hoping to pare down and post as oneshots, but it's not really a huge priority. I'm really proud of how "In the Gloaming" turned out in terms of tone and story and whatnot, and it was super fun to experiment with writing a near-stream of conscious style, although I suppose my readership already sort of dispersed by the time I posted it. I was the most prolific writer for the ship, which was sort of a secondary/rare ship to begin with. I hope that readers revisiting the fandom in the future will find it and like it though. In a similar (?) vein, I'm pleased with how "Surpassing Corridors" turned out, and it absolutely delights me that I wrote a 25k fic for basically no one but myself (rarepair absolutely no one but me is writing for), and yet some people came along and read it anyway. It even has 1 comment, with an emoji combination I shall treasure forever:

Anyway, I've got two Oz wips right now that are both a little on the lengthier side, so as far as posting them goes, it'll probably be a little bit longer for that. There's also a movie I want to rewatch soon to maybe write a quick Oz AU for... And I'm not really an AU fic guy tbh (in terms of writing them). But I guess Oz is such a small fandom and I'm sort of just doing god knows what out here at this point that even AUs seem appealing. Maybe the experimental aspect of the show inspired me to experiment more LOL. I kind of cringe at some of the stuff I've written so far (mainly "Holding Up the Sky" characterisation woes and stupid pacing/plot points.... ugh.... Kill me...) but that's the nature of the beast, I suppose. In any case, I'm glad I played with form and style and stretched my creative muscles;

I've never written a 2nd person POV fic, which I did for "In the Blink of an Eye";

I've never written anything quite as nonlinear as "At Rise", so I'm proud of how that turned out;

and I've always wanted to write an epistolary fic but never really felt a motivation to do so until "In The Matter Of Carmen Guerra, #96G522".

Hopefully I will get more confident in my characterisations and whatnot going forward. There are so many great fic writers for Oz who are able to capture such a voice/style that feels so close to the show and then I feel like there's me, puttering around in the kiddie pool, inexplicably wearing giant clown shoes that squeak with every step. LOL. Oh well! I'll get there.

Misc Other

Not AO3 related, but I have had fun writing up reflections on each episode of Oz during my rewatch with my sister. I've never really just written long form posts like that, outside of pointless rambling in the Livejournal days. It's been a bit of an effort to do, but fun, and it's helped me get my thoughts organised about some things and really think about what I watch (as much as my memory problems allow!). My only concern is that I probably sound like I'm bitching about everything the way I comment on it. I'm really not! I wouldn't be rewatching Oz again and again if I didn't like it 😅 I just express my passion by being a hater, I guess.

Fire Emblem Engage 21 - 23

Spoilers for FE Engage beneath the cut. This game doesn't have the deepest cast, but all of them are pretty enjoyable and there's less that are just a single gimmick like in the old days.

Let me guess who the boss is for Ch 21. Some of the hounds?

Sombron trying to revive Atlantis is certainly a new villain motivation. Oh, now we're back to the typical stuff. He wants to invade other worlds also.

So I don't think we get Marni as a unit, but pretty sure we get Mauvier. And now sobstory incoming for Marni. She dead.

I really hope Griss doesn't get a last second sob story. I want him to just be an unhinged psychopath.

And, like, I buy Mauvier's behavior because we had a lead up to it. But Marni's been nothing but an unrepentant killer. Having a hard time caring at all about any of this. I want Alfred, Ivy, and the other rulers back.

I'm trying also to take this seriously that everyone here is chit-chatting instead of trying to kill each other lamo. Like, bitch!Veyle has tortured Marth and we're just watching her. (and Zephia and Griss).

Aw, man, I thought we were going to get Marth back :(

Alear's getting a Disney Death I see. Poor Alfred's so stressed. And Veyle, but I can't bring myself to care about her yet.

Are we losing the rings again? Aw, come on. 😭 Alear, you fucked up. I'm amazed Sombron didn't just wipe out Alear and co tbh. This is a bigger L than ch 10. At least Veyle is actually planning on killing all the heroes bc it's about time someone tried to actually kill each other in a cut scene.

Is this when Deus ex machina steps in? Because we lost the rings. Alear's dead. Veyle's evil again. And she's about to murder everyone else.

Oh, that's actually kinda cool. Alear's coming back as a corrupted. So not Deus ex machina. Since this was already established (Deus ex machina incoming to revert Alear back to human from a zombie).

Zombie!Alear didn't last long. Good voice acting though. It's obvious she'll come back. Which, that means she had two deaths in back-to-back chapters. Impressive? Is this the "miracle" thingy the emblems talked about once? Lamo. This plot. I swear. Ah, and the mom's ring.

But, hey, gotta say it's nice there's real consequences for what she does.

OMG her hair is all blue. Does it stay that way? Is it bad that I don't want it too? I'll miss the Pepsi and Colgate look.

Alear's the Fire Emblem. This is both ridiculously cheesy but also kinda awesome. I wasn't even looking for the "Fire Emblem," but I never would've guessed it was the MC lamo. All the past lords are simping. Do I get Alear as a ring though? Can I give it to Alfred?

The goofy hair is still here!! Yessss.

Alfred and Veyle's C support was hilarious. Mostly because of Alfred. Also, don't give him spicy food lol.

After some suggestions, I put Lyn on Alcryst and lamo. Alcryst + Brave Bow + Alacrity is just disgusting.

The hottest man in this game is Sigurd. This is an unarguable fact.

Is it me, or does Veyle build support REALLY fast?

Ok, but can you imagine your parents tell you that you have no choice, you must be X's retainer. And you expect some boring, stuffy, stuck-up noble - but instead - it's Alfred. 😅 I've seen people describe him as a "human golden retriever" and honestly, they're not wrong.

Ok, guys, I'm about to S-Support Alfred. The ring said it's your "trusted partner," so it might not be explicitly romantic, but as long as it's good, it'll stay my #1 ship in this game.

OMG, that was really cute. 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Alfred essentially says he wants to be more than friends and gives Alear an embroidery piece that's basically a Firene royal engagement rite. Alear says she's felt that way about him since she first saw him. She puts the ring on his finger, and he straight up says "I love you." Shit's pretty explicit and furthers my "devs wanted you to pick Alfred" propaganda. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

So do the two hounds finally die?

Kinda annoyed Veyle replaced the royals, ngl. She's probably the only character I dislike, meanwhile Ivy and Alfred are my two favorites and Diamant and Timerra are both solid.

So the Hounds ARE finally dying. Finally. But why is Zephia helping us? Telling us about other shards? Also, why is Madonna/whore complex the character talking more than Alear now?

This last minute throw at sympathy for these two is wasted. Like, they were one-note evil before this, lamo. Even the game is like "this makes no sense, please ignore it" with Zephia's dialogue. I'd rather hear Amber talk more about alpacas.

Lamo, Alfred is surrounded by lava and he's like "look, a flower, isn't that amazing!" I love him.

More time wasted on the 2 hounds, though Griss faking dead so he can enjoy the pain is on point. Not even Timerra got this much dialogue.

gjsjshdshf I will go off thank you (also I haven't gotten past the first stage yet but I've collected all the main cast so far, so, have your sister take that into account I guess)

blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most): This is so hard to choose! Like genuinely I just can't. My top guys are Karlach, Lae'zel, Astarion, Wyll, and Gale. It's most of the cast.

scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped): Karlach! She so goddamn cute, and so fun. I know everything ever calls her a ball of sunshine, but they're all correct. She's peak himbo energy in a woman and so much more. If you leave her idle she starts dancing. I wanna buy her icecream.

scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave): Wyyyyylllll. He was a little boring at first just for being so noble with no obvious bastard tendencies, but after having him in my party for a bit I've realized he can be a little shit and I'm so much more attached now. I like that he actually cares and wants to do good, and as always I appreciate when a character has a lot of complications under the surface that are hard to spot immediately. I don't know what his whole deal is yet but I'm intrigued, I'll probably try to romance him in some playthrough. I don't see nearly enough fan content of him and it's a tragedy.

Also Lae'zel fits here I think? She doesn't seem to be as popular and that sucks because I'm obsessed with her. Weirdly enough kinda reminds me of Jamil if he was raised worse and like 80% more unhinged. I love that, despite the outward rabid warrior impression, for her culture she actually seems to be kind of a nerd? Girl read literally an entire library, she's insecure about not being strong enough and failing to live up to expectations, she fantasizes about being accepted by her own people and on some level seems to doubt that it'll happen, it's interesting. She's also hilarious to me, and I enjoy the blatant hostility tbh. Eventually I will convince her to fall in love with at least one of my Tavs, I need to know what she's like when she opens up, if she opens up, and I wanna see what her good end is like

glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week): My man Withers. Memeable af. I haven't had any use for him so far but I love having him around because he cracks me up.

This is not a surprise. Your sister is probably sick of hearing about him. Everyone on the internet is probably sick of hearing about him. Half the fans hate him for reasons that range from fair enough, to homophobic, to entirely fabricated. The other half are completely obsessed with him for reasons that range from fair enough, to fetishistic, to entirely fabricated. I do genuinely feel that he's an incredibly valuable character and gives a level of honest nuance to abuse representation that needed to be shown. I'm glad they chose to portray his bad qualities and keep the good more subtle, he feels real and it's meaningful. He's also really funny and fun to get to know. I started romancing him on accident by trying to banter, and I'm enjoying that route so far. I love how bitchy he is and how hypocritical he ends up being about acts of kindness. I wanna see both his good and bad ends. (also I will never stop laughing at how bad he is at hiding that he's a vampire, like every single step of the way)

Honorable mention to Gale for also portraying a severely under acknowledged form of abuse and trauma! The way he expects and accepts mistreatment, the cruel dialog options that you are offered in response to him, and the reaction of fans who find him obnoxious or cumbersome all work so well to showcase the way society treats both addiction and autism to different degrees? Not to mention the reaction to his grooming, which can get pretty nasty. He's not as entertaining to me as the others, but he's important. I don't have the energy to really elaborate on my thoughts here and I know they're scrambled but yeah, I appreciate Gale.

I HEARD YOU WERE MALIMG SCRUNTY AN OUTDOOR CAT AND CAME RUNNING🏃‍♂️. I have an outdoor cat, and he’s my entire world💕! They’re pretty independent, and easy to take care of. When he’s home, (most of the time now that he’s a little peepaw), he mainly sleeps and eats. He used to go out for days when he was younger, (the first time he didn’t come home I had a literal jammer), but he always comes back. They’re supposed to have a shorter life expectancy, but he’s literally unkillable💀. -🍓🍷

Yeah I live in the middle of nowhere farm country so outdoor cats are common, but I really don't like the idea of them that much. It gives me too much anxiety, so mine are strictly inside kitties only.

For the DHMIS universe and thematic purposes, I think it would make sense for Scrunty (hilarious fucking name btw) to be indoor/outdoor, like to explain why you never see her. I'm also just assuming it's a her because they really don't need another male member of the household. Doggie needs a grouchy girl bestie tbh, it'll help keep her sanity intact.

1. book you’ve reread the most times?

I don't really tend to reread books tbh. There's so many other books I wanna read that I'd get more out of than a second go at something I already remember, y'know? That said, I have read the bible cover-to-cover four times. Normal behaviour.

2. top 5 books of all time?

Aw fuck. I dunno. I'll assume "books" here means "novels" and I'll list five of my top books of all time:

The Dispossessed, by Ursula K Le Guin. I need not labour the piont here 'cause I know you've read it, so I'll simply say that Le Guin is possibly my favourite writer of all time, and this is her at her best.

Ubik, by Philip K Dick. This book gets weirder by the page. PKD loves poking at the nature of reality, and this is the exemplar. A lot of his output reads as surprisingly adventurous work to come from a 60s sci-fi guy, and this is among his most interesting. Several carefully-crafted "wait - oh, shit" moments in a deliberately-contradictory narrative. Head-spinning stuff.

The Fifth Season, by N K Jemisin. A lot of SFF is, like, fun, and that's cool; I like to read that stuff too. This is art, no two ways about it, and of a kind I'm not sure you could easily translate into a different genre or medium. Bold and nuanced exploration both of the apocalypse and of parenthood. Also rocks are magic, and magic is rocks. When people ask me to recommend a book, this is my go-to.

Version Control, by Dexter Palmer. This is pretty lit-ficcy compared with my usual intake (ie. genre fiction that wears it's genre-ness like a tiara). If an act 1 full of normies having brunch doesn't put you off - and it shouldn't, because the characters are extremely well-drawn - then it'll be very satisfying when all the little bits of wrong-ness come together. Also far more prescient as near-future spec-fic than any cyberpunk.

The Traitor Baru Cormorant, by Seth Dickinson. Unlike most in the tumblr-popular "SFF imperialism but with lesbians" genre, this one sketches out an imperialism that's mostly plausible and worth exploring. The worldbuilding is really very good. This is mostly a pretty light read, for all it deals in heavy themes. I basically don't believe that spoilers diminish one's enjoyment of a story, though that might just be me, so I still think it's worth reading despite your having looked up the ending on wikipedia. The rapid series of increasingly-punishing gut punches in the final few chapters is worth experiencing first-hand.

19. most disliked popular books?

I'm sure I've bitched about this to you before, but I thought Harrow the Ninth mostly sucked. I respect the ambition of the book's structure, but I felt that it fucked the pacing unbearably. Gideon is way more interesting to read about than anyone else in these books, and I might have felt better about being dragged through 400 pages of Harrow moping by having "you're gonna find out what happened with Gideon soon, I swear!" dangled in front of me like a carrot for a donkey, if the payoff was worth it. Unfortunately the denouement largely consisted of everybody standing there and stating out loud what their master plans were, I guess because the stupid B-plot where I'm somehow expected to care about Ortis at all(??) took up too much space so there was none left for a proper ending. There were some fantastic scenes, but in my opinion they couldn't save the book. I thought Gideon was truly excellent, so this was a bit of a let-down.

Also - if you'll allow me a brief tangential rant - I can only assume the publisher (correctly) decided that the meme references were highly marketable, because otherwise an editor that let that shit through should surely have been let go. It's baffling, because these books are frequently hilarious, but never when referencing Bone Hurting Juice or whatever the fuck. "Oh it's a worldbuilding thing, it shows that John-" no. It's stupid. Piss off.

Sans: I Wasn't Built For This™

Why did he let Nick convince him this would be fun? Go camping they said. It'll be fun they said.

He refuses to sleep in a tent. He just puts the seats down in his car, all the pillows and blankets he needs, and sleeps there. He's above sleeping on the ground tbh.

“Hiking? That... That sounds exhausting. How long is the trail? FIVE MILES!? Nah. No thanks. you guys go ahead, I'll protect the site from bears or something.”

Day drinks like a mother fucker. Also is the one who usually grills the food considering he's the best cook in the group. Naps all the time.

Once he's a bit more tipsy he's a lot more open to the adventure. Found a rope swing over a lake and went for it without hesitation.

Is the only one who's actually able to start a fire. He watches Nick and Jonas try to do the stick trick and just, “Oh my God, that's so stupid. Just use a lighter. Fuck.”

Tells the best scary stories at the campfire. Leaves the others trembling all night long with his terrifying tales of torment.

Sometimes, no don't tell anyone, he'll get up on the roof of his car and just stargaze... He's glad Nick got him to come. The stars are so clear outside of the city...

Nick: The Environmentalist™

IS THAT A FUCKING BEER CAN!? ON MY HIKING TRAIL!? ABSOLUTELY THE FUCK NOT!

Always looking for the closest trash can and picking up every piece of litter he finds on the trail or near the lake.

Brings little bags with him and gives everyone some to encourage them to also pick up any litter they see.

Always taking candid videos to document their experience. Will do a David Attenborough impression while filming his friends doing stupid shit. No, it's not a good impression, it's the worst British accent you've ever heard.

If he sees a stream he WILL follow it. Even if it goes off the trail. Probably the least responsible thing he does but it's just SO FASCINATING! If he does need help, Jonas can just howl like the wolf he is until Nick makes his way back.

He loves exploring. Always climbing on rocks, and trees.

Always trying to get Sans to participate, no matter how many times Sans says no.

Talks in length about how he wants to set up an off the grid cabin and just "live off the land," in a commune or something. Always talking about how he'd start a big garden, get rain catchers, solar panels, compost toilets... If Ted Kaczynski can do it, why can't he?

"I'm sorry, the fucking Unibomber?” “He had some good points! Don't worry I would never fucking bomb anyone, he was wrong for that.”

Nick always plays the guitar at the campfire and the boys make up random songs to sing with each other, with Nick leading them like the lil lead singer that he is. :,)

Alphys: Having several regrets...

Nope. Sans is right. Sleeping in a tent sucks! Worst sleep ever. She ends up sleeping in the car with Sans.

Chokes down the bitter ass coffee they have to brew themselves to feed her ✨addiction✨

She misses takeout delivery. And video games.

IS THAT A FUCKING SPIDER!?

She absolutely REEKS of bug spray. Mosquitoes don't even go after her, but she still sprays herself down out of paranoia.

Unlike Sans, she actually tries to participate in the "fun" activities cause she doesn't want to feel left out. Is always out of breath and has to be carried by Jonas halfway through because she is literally gonna have an asthma attack. She doesn't even have asthma, but she will after this five mile hike!

Walks into several spider webs, the poor dear.

Loves the campfire and listening to Sans's stories and Nick's songs. Probably the best part of camping is that moment with everyone. She also loves s'mores :)

S'mores are definitely the best part of camping... And also the fact it makes her feel like she's in a studio ghibli movie!

Jonas : The Wilderness Explorer ™

Jonas absolutely loves camping! Being outdoors in general is his jam. Just because he's a grunge skater boy doesn't mean he's above fishing and hiking.

Always trying to impress people with survivalist shit. Can pitch a tent like no one's business and builds little shelters out of sticks, leaves and moss for fun. Still hasn't figured out how to start a fire with sticks but he's persistent.

Really enjoys the fact Sans is out of his element. Constantly making fun of him. "HAH! look at this guy, he can't even pitch a tent."

After Sans decided he was above sleeping on the ground, Jonas thought it would be really funny to tie some hammocks up in the trees. Sans wakes up to the guys sleeping in the canopy and Jonas is just gloating, “WHO'S ABOVE WHO NOW, SANS!?"

When they're hiking, he always climbs up onto big rocks and howls because it's the funnest shit to do ever.

Loves swimming in the lake and when Sans finds the rope, he's overjoyed. Always doing a bunch of flips off of it. Definitely caught a fish with his bare hands.

The fish promptly slapped him in the face as it flailed from his grip to get back in the water.

LOVES s'mores, but can't eat chocolate, so he just eats the marshmallows off the stick. Always talking about how there's a proper way to roast the marshmallow but immediately burns it.

Is the one who can't sleep after Sans's ghost stories.

Midas: the Anti Boy-Scout 😈

Unlike Alphys, Midas isn't afraid of creepy crawlies... In fact, he's the one tormenting people with creepy crawlies >:)

Definitely placed a tarantula on top of Alphys's sleeping bag and is the reason she now refuses to sleep outside.

Finds the biggest bugs imaginable and chases Maeve on the hiking trail. He is a fucking menace to society and MUST be stopped!

He swims under water (with tinted goggles of course) and pretends to be a water snake to freak people out. Will like swim underneath them and his snake hair will definitely slither along their legs. Has been kicked in the face.

When he's not terrorizing his friends, he's binge drinking at the campsite and smoking. Probably knows all the mushroom types and exactly which mushrooms will get people off their shits.

That being said, he has used his powers for good once and caught a big cotton mouth near the campsite so no one would actually get hurt. Carried it away safely and no one was the wiser. An unsung hero, truly.

One time he went out by himself to just enjoy nature, and took his sunglasses off to enjoy the breeze on his face.

Almost turned a hiker into a monument. Thankfully, he was quick to dodge that bullet.

After Sans's ghost stories, Midas will purposefully stay up and fuck with the boys while they're trying to sleep. Like I said, a fucking menace.

Maeve: ✨ Polaroid Princess ✨

“Wow this is so aesthetic.” *📸*

Where Nick is taking stupid candid videos, Maeve is always forcing everyone into fun, cutesy group photos.

Loves watching the sunset, always crooning over the pretty colors.

Basking in a warm patch of sun is one of her favorite activities. Has definitely found a sunny meadow and just laid there to watch the clouds.

She's always put together, outfits are always coordinated. Definitely over packed and now has to wear EVERY outfit she packed for a two day camping trip.

Much like Nick, she's always trying to get Sans to participate but it's to no avail.

She is also the one to keep Alphys the most company and encourage her all the time when they're hiking. “Guys maybe we should turn around, Alphys is getting tired.” “No I'm fine!” -cue Jonas having to give her a piggy back ride back to the camp site, with Maeve tagging along like “I told you.”

Always forcing people to drink water to stay hydrated. “Hydrate or Die-drate."

Hates swimming, but, again, loves basking on the shoreline while the boys are goofing around in the water.

Jonas and Midas have pushed her in the water once and regretted it immediately because she hulked out on them. Went full Lioness on their asses. She is literally the tallest and biggest out of all them, they should've seen this coming 🤦🏼‍♀️ The bugs were one thing, but THAT CROSSED A LINE!

Frisk: Little Miss Sunshine 🌸😚

Absolutely precious. Always asking people if they need help while setting up the campsite. Definitely brought fairy lights and hangs them up in her tent and around their site in the trees. Everyone wants to hang out in her tent because she made it so cozy. Even Sans isn't above hanging out in there.

Is definitely super stoked about camping. Much like Jonas, she absolutely adores the outdoors and spending time in nature, even though she doesn't have any of the survival skills.

Always asking Jonas to show her how to do cool stuff and he is more than happy to teach her how to do things. He definitely shows off for her all the time, and she enjoys the attention.

Keeps the campsite tidy and organized, always agreeing with Nick about keeping the land clean and picking up litter.

When everyone goes off to hike, she stays behind with Sans to hang out with him alone.

She actually manages to convince him to enjoy the outdoors and the two go off on another trail by themselves, and just talk about life and shit. Occasionally they can hear Jonas howling or Maeve's blood curdling screams from being chased by bugs and they start giggling with each other.

Definitely makes little wildflower bouquets for everyone and also flower crowns.

Everyone is always making sure she's having fun.

Hangs out with Maeve because they're pretty similar. They're always taking pictures together and Frisk is always offering to take pictures of the group so Maeve can actually be in said pictures.

Loves swimming. Tried the rope but it unfortunately snapped on her. The boys constantly asked if she's okay after flopping on her back, but she's just giggling about it the whole time.

Is the one who kicked Midas in the face. She feels really bad about it, and he always teases her about it but hey, he shouldn't have been acting like the creature from the black lagoon!

Loves listening to Sans's ghost stories and Nick's songs too. Definitely the boys' biggest cheerleader.

At night, she climbs up on the roof of the car to stargaze with Sans, and the two point out constellations with each other and tell each other stories.

For some reason, these songs gives me Camping vibes so...
