I got. Some thoughts. About this being the movie where Ethan passes Jim in age. “Good luck, Ethan” is such a nice subtle reference it drove me a little insane
#I’m incoherent#sometime I will be able to talk about this movie in a way that makes sense#for now let me just say#everything Ethan has built over these seven movies has all been about#this almost religious dedication to becoming#the anti-Jim#he’s so much older now. he’s so tired and so disillusioned. but he loves his friends. he trusts his friends. and they love him#they trust him#it’s this like. radical emotional connection as the resounding answer to the ‘sea of lies’ of mi1#grace doesn’t trust him easily he earns it#painfully#slowly#by showing her the world he’s created. where he will care about her more than his own life the way he does for#EVERYONE#mi7 spoilers#mission impossible#he could have become Jim!#he could have become john lark.#he could have become lane.#he could have become like the entity.#but he didn’t. he didn’t!!!! and he never will!!!!!!!
