#it’s also fun to use this playlist as a way to imagine what the soundtrack could sound like for a Ga’hoole show

Hello dear hooligan friends, I want to share with you a Ga’hoole inspired Spotify playlist that I’ve been putting together in between work and art!
It has themes from the film and game, as well as other various soundtracks that share a similar vibe. If you’re curious to know what I listen to when I draw, this is it.
I hope you like it <3

🎧 I don't actually know your music taste. SO. Either take this as the go-ahead to gush about your music interest, and/or tell us if you're the kind of person who associates music with a character to help write them better. (I used to do that all the time)
Oughg okay umm
I wouldn't necessarily say I have "good" taste in music, I mostly just really enjoy things I can dance or sing to? Upbeat music is usually my go to but I've started appreciating slower songs more and more as I've gotten older (makes me sound ancient I'm only 22 DSFDGF)
I'd say my music taste is pretty eclectic in general, like it's rock and pop and pop punk, crooners and swing, musicals and scottish trad stuff and video game soundtracks I'm really all over the place
I do prefer simple lyrics though, I'm a bit of a "[X song] meaning" googler JKGHJF like just in case I misinterpret or something...
I am constantly having blorbo thoughts when I listen to music, like the hoops I will jump through to connect the two dots (I didn't connect shit /ref) is sometimes silly but it's a lot of fun, it's actually how I came up with my Underground AU that came about playlist first HKGJFG (I've tried making a playlist for Team Sky but it's really not clicking as well :/)
Though, I wouldn't say that associating music with a character helps me write them better? I would say that applying a song To a character is more just another method of expressing my understanding of a character? if that makes sense?
There's like different ways of applying a song to a character/set of characters for me: a song that makes me think of them, a song I can picture them singing/thinking from their perspective, and I guess the middle of that venn diagram would be a song I can imagine an animatic to LOL
I can post some examples holdon (Spotify links sorry lol)
A song that makes me think of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy ^_^
A Sonic song :D
A Tails song :')
Chaotix in general but mostly Charmy GHJGFH
I have so many Sonic and Tails songs idk which one to pick uhh This one's cute :P
This song is suuuuch a my version of Sonia song like down to the voice, I think Kristin Stokes might be my Sonia voice claim HGJH And it's a keys focused song, accompanied by drums and guitar!!(+bass which is what I imagine the second part of Sonic's medallion is like you know how he has one of them double guitars I picture one part of it being bass and he's just fast enough to play both at once GHKFJGH) but like. I actually think it also could work as an Amy song? Like her getting fed up of being left behind all the time? Woagh double meaning song
ANYWAY YEAGH music I like it smile
OH people were asking what song I could imagine Sonic Sonia and Manic singing in that one post it was this song!! I ws embarrassed to share bc it's technically from a musical but again it's got guitar, keys and drums and three people singing it and it's heartfelt and about them working together.. I am a simple man... HGJHF
EDIT: I LINKED THE WRONG SONG FOR THE SONIA ONE OTZ it should be fixed now tho qwq

Which Hacketteers do you think are pro Christmas music and who do you think is totally against it?
Okay this is a great question and such a hard one for me because I’m kind of ambivalent about Christmas music myself! I like it fine for a couple of days beforehand but when it starts playing in stores right after Halloween? I’m still in spooky mode, stop trying to make me be merry for the sake of capitalism! 😂
Also given the setting of New York state, I wonder if any of them come from Jewish or otherwise non-Christian families. Idk who’s most likely to fit into that category but it’s a consideration. Christmas culture infects everyone though lol.
❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
I feel like Jacob is a literal child so he probably gets super excited about everything Christmas and is like helping his parents put up elaborate light displays and buying Christmas themed snacks and stuff, so he’s probably listening to Christmas music the day after Halloween and I feel like Emma might be similar. Emma might come Christmas caroling at your house because she loves performing so much! Emma doesn’t mind a pop cover or a bit of Mariah Carey at all.
Kaitlyn might be a total Grinch if left to her own devices but she can’t help indulging Jacob a little. She doesn’t mind Christmas music in the context of Christmas movies but she probably wouldn’t listen to it on purpose just for fun. She has a secret soft spot for the soundtrack to The Muppet Christmas Carol.
I feel like the holidays might be complicated for Ryan. We don’t know why his mom isn’t around, though I obviously have my headcanons for fiction, but that might make it a little bit of a tough time for him. At the same time, he seems really invested in his sister so he probably wants to make Christmas special for her. He lives with his grandparents, so maybe they’re listening to the more classic, old school Christmas music and jazz covers and he’s probably fine with that.
Dylan I think could go either way, either he’s rolling his eyes about it altogether or he’s making massive playlists of indie and alt rock covers and then throwing in annoying goofy songs like “Dominick the Donkey” and “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.” I think he probably does not want to hear Christmas music prior to Thanksgiving. But maybe I’m just projecting as I often do.
Abi’s watching The Nightmare Before Christmas on repeat to match her Hot Topic aesthetic. 😂 She likes that original soundtrack and the various artist cover versions and “Yule Shoot Your Eye Out” by Fall Out Boy. But when it’s actually the week of Christmas she gives in and gets into the regular cheery stuff.
I wonder how long Nick has been in the US because I always think it has to be so weird for Australians to have all this wintery themed Christmas music when it’s summer in their hemisphere at Christmas time! Maybe he gets really into it because it’s so different from what he’s used to. Or maybe he gets cranky and misses the summer and listens to Tim Minchin’s “White Wine in the Sun” to remember warmer holidays. Could go either way.
Maybe it’s his 50’s fit talking, but I imagine Max being into the old crooner type Christmas music, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra and more recently stuff like Michael Bublé that’s copying that style. I feel like he starts terribly serenading Laura with that music in early November.
I feel like Laura might not get super into Christmas until school is out because she’s so driven, so maybe she pushes all that out of her mind until then, except when Max is badly crooning “White Christmas” in the shower. But then again, I also headcanoned her as a choir kid in high school so she probably had concerts to practice for too that made her get into the spirit earlier than she really wanted.
Thanks for the asks today y’all! I think my brain is tapped out but I will be meditating on some I can send back! 💜💜💜

OK, I was tagged to spell out my url in songs I like by a few people (I am sorry, I have already lost track of who - I am pretty sure @saxifrage-wreath was one, but thank you to all of you!) So here we go.
S - "Shy" by Sarah Jessica Parker
Not a fan of the musical as a whole, but this song is bursting with good humour and fun for an alto. The fact that you get to blast the phrase, "I've always been SHYYYYYYYYYY" at the top of your lungs like a brass band going by really is the best.
I -"Inventor's Daughter" by Branches
I love the imagery and storytelling of this one - it's really only capturing about thirty seconds of their lives and yet I can imagine both him and her so clearly.
E - "England" by Great Big Sea
A lovely little song about some of the first Englishmen to arrive in Newfoundland.
N - "Now and For Always" from the Lord of the Rings Musical
When I was a little kid there was a period where I more or less knew the story of LOTR, but only as far as the end of the 1978 animated film. The last we see of Frodo and Sam, Sam has just expressed that he doubt they have rations for a return journey, and "after that..." Frodo, to the most poignant music has grasped Sam by the shoulders and said, "Oh Sam, Samwise Gamgee. My dearest Hobbit, friend of friends. After that? If the Ring goes into the fire, and we are at hand? After that, dear Sam. I wouldn't worry." (He turns away) Just to get there. Just to get there. The Ring is so heavy now, Sam." And then Gollum shows up, and leads them off over the ridge in search fo the winding stair. And I had no idea what happened to them after that. But that VHS was well worn, even more worn into my heart that into the tape, and to me it was like some kind of neverending myth. As though Frodo and Sam were still journeying to Mount Doom - eternal wanderers on their way to save the world in spite of weariness and suffering. This song, based on another conversation in the book, makes me feel the same way that moment in the movie did so long ago, when I didn't know how it ended.
A - "Augustine" by Vienna Tang
Ring for an Augustine tonight.
S- "The Show" by Lenka
Because it makes me think of a dear friend who considered this her theme song in one season of her life.
E - "Eight Days a Week" by the Beatles
I used to do quite a lot of ballroom dancing, and this one was a favourite for the foxtrot.
V - "Voice in My Throat" by Pearl and the Beard
A friend put this on a very sweet character playlist, and so it's associated with both her and with Gwendolyn from KQ.
E - "Emile et Raoul" from the "A Monster in Paris" soundtrack
Just a lovely little instrumental in a frankly outstanding soundtrack. (Almost all the songs are fantastic, though the instrumentals are nice too.)
N - "Neck of the Woods" by Maisie Peters
Lyrical, joyful, confident, all about closeness and growth.
W -"Will I Find My Home in You" (acoustic version) by Juniper Veil.
I put it in my Portland Row playlist, and have since fallen in love with it.
I - "I Love Rossini" by Andrea Boccelli
I do love Rossini, this one was a favourite when I was fifteen or so, and it now makes me think of my secondary lead character.
T - "The Tower" by Alana Henderson
A song about healing and patience, and I also associate it with Berlyne Alvarado.
S - "She's With Me" by High Valley
High energy, sheer devotion, makes me think of Mary if I listen selectively to the lyrics.

I can never think of titles, so most of my fics are titled with song lyrics. I was from the songfic generation so maybe it just stuck. If I know what I want to write, sometimes I find a song to match the overall vibe and listen to it on repeat for hours while writing. It helps me zone in and get into the feeling. Sometimes the exact lyric I find the most *THEM* doesn't work as a title and it's a travesty tbh.
I'm also on team All Lower Case for no reason except that I think it looks better.
Cursed? playlist below cut, with further notes
Not a song title: An Anthology of Trib...ulations, but it is a tribbing joke, so. Although I don't think I ever got around to that particular act before I lost steam.
when my blue moon turns to gold again (Shadowheart/Lae'zel, warning for major character death) is from an Elvis song with the same title. It fits within the sad-joyful tone because the song is about how happy the singer will be when their lover returns to them, and how they'll never let them go again, but Shadowheart finds peace and joy in the part of Lae'zel that does return to her, even though she comes to learn Lae'zel has perished in the githyanki liberation battles. ALSO, this song is on the soundtrack of Desert Hearts, which is the greatest lesbian movie to ever exist.
green on the vine (Shadowheart/Nocturne) is from "Strawberry Wine" by Deana Carter which has the line, "my first taste of love, oh bittersweet / green on the vine." The song is about a young love that fizzled out, but the singer looks back on it fondly because it was such a formative experience. So that's very Not the Experience Shadowheart and Nocturne had, and ironic because Shadowheart can't reminisce about her first young love. I chose 'green on the vine' as a title because it invokes the image of a fruit plucked too soon and made bitter, much like the way Shadowheart and Nocturne's relationship was cut short over and over by the demands of the cult.
mirage (Shadowheart/Nocturne, Shadowheart/Alfira) is the title of a song by Sylvia and this one is pretty on the nose. In this fic, Shadowheart sees Nocturne all around her as she engages with the Emerald Grove and meets the Dream Visitor. But this song is about being misled/manipulated by a lover, so it mostly refers to the Emperor using Nocturne's image to manipulate Shadowheart.
solitaire (Alfira/Lakrissa) is the title of a Carpenters song, about a lonely man who isolates himself and keeps himself from connecting with others and finding love. I imagined Lakrissa pushes others away with her flippant attitude and pessimism, and isolates herself (notice she sits alone talking to herself in the grove) and her experience in Moonrise is what motivates her to open up and accept the friendship and, in Alfira, the love that other people offer her.
like a candy to an apple (you're so sweet on me) (Alfira/Lakrissa) is from "It's Whatever" by Aaliyah. This is my Official Alfira/Lakrissa song imo, it captures the sweet, supportive, and romantic vibe I love for them perfectly. The whole line is, "like a candy to an apple, oh we go together / you're so sweet on me." This is a fun, romantic, sexy fic, so the song fic captures it perfectly. Definitely listen to this one if you don't know it, it's a favorite and everyone should know Aaliyah!
hold you like a python (Minthara/Florrick) is from "National Anthem" by Lana Del Rey, with the line being "I sing the national anthem while I am standing over your your body / hold you like a python." I always loved the imagery of this line, of squeezing the life out of someone to feed on them and feed one's own ambitions and that's kind of what's going on with florrithara in this fic. There's no romance yet, no feelings--just two powerful women engaged in this mutual chokehold, neither willing to back down, but sure to end with someone's guts on squeezed out on the floor.
lay you down on a bed of roses (Minthara/Florrick) is from "Bed of Roses" by Bon Jovi, in the line, "I'd like to lay you down on a bed of roses / but tonight I sleep on a bed of nails". I really don't have an excuse for this except I was like 'Minthara would love Bon Jovi' and I listened to this song on repeat for hours while writing that fic.
Minthara/Florrick also are part of a series, so they get a series title as well: "I could liken you to a werewolf (but I admit I provided a full moon)". This is from "Werewolf" by Fiona Apple which I think of as the florrithara theme song. It's about an unsalvageable relationship, and that's Minthara and Florrick. The line is truncated from the first two lyrics, but I'm gonna list about the first five lyrics because that's what I think of for this song and ship:
I could liken you to a werewolf the way you left me for dead but I admit, I provided a full moon. I could liken you to a shark, the way you bit off my head but then again, I was waving around a bleeding open wound. But you were such a super guy till the second you get a whiff of me. We're like a wishing well and a bolt of electricity

Music game!
rules: shuffle your “on repeat” playlist from spotify/the music service of your choice and post the first 10 tracks.
thanks for tagging me, @ellena-asg!!
I use Apple Music, so I put my Replay 2023 playlist on shuffle - it's gonna be a lot of Beyoncé, y'all.
spoiler alert: I am very predictable in ways even i could not imagine. Replay 2023 dragged my ass... more under the cut!
Steve Biko (Stir It Up) by A Tribe Called Quest
if I'm not listening to Beyoncé or movie soundtracks, I'm listening to A Tribe Called Quest.
2. SUMMER RENAISSANCE by Beyoncé
what a powerful way to end her rebirth after Lemonade. Also love that she sampled by man Giorgio Moroder who also worked on the soundtracks for Scarface (1983) and Top Gun (1986).
3. CHURCH GIRL by Beyoncé
this is my absolute favorite song on RENAISSANCE. "nobody can judge me but me, I was born free" brings me to tears and then I immediately shake my ass bc Beyoncé tells me to "drop it like a thotty, drop like thotty."
4. Verses from the Abstract by A Tribe Called Quest
this song is from The Low End Theory, which is a different album from song #1. it's wild to think this album wasn't a big commercial success, but it still went on to create alternative hip hop.
5. 6 Inch (feat. The Weeknd) by Beyoncé
this is my second fave song from Lemonade, and how could anyone not love this song? a sexy song about a woman working her ass off thinking she's doing it for herself, but in the end, she was trying to get her man's approval... brutal
6. Main Title (From the Motion Picture "Scarface") by Giorgio Moroder
okay y'all, i swear i'm writing these lil tidbits in real time as i listen. i had no idea this song would come up despite mentioning it in my answer for #2. fun fact about this album: it was not available on streaming until 2022, which i know bc i bought the Scarface CD in 2020 so that I could listen to it in my car
7. Top of the World by Trevor Jones
not gonna lie, my least favorite song from this album was next, so I skipped and got this song instead, which is an actual bop! fun fact about The Last of the Mohicans, it was my least favorite movie for 13 years, but i gave it a final chance a while back. lemme tell ya, Michael Mann does not disappoint, and the music is outstanding.
8. Auto Rock by Mogwai
another song from another Michael Mann movie, this time it's Miami Vice (2006), and apparently this is my most played song this year. Michael Mann does such a wonderful job of picking music to fit the tone of his movie endings.
9. Line of Sight (feat. WYNNE & Mansionair) by ODESZA
full disclosure, i had to skip 4 more songs from Beyoncé's RENAISSANCE to get to this song... sorry not sorry
10. Elk Hunt by Trevor Jones
welp, I guess we just had to end on a Michael Mann movie song. This the best song in The Last of the Mohicans though, so i ain't complaining.
welp. i am nothing if not predictable, which i hate 🤣🤣

My Spotify Wrapped (Kinda)
My family all share the Spotify account, but I'm for sure the one who uses it the most. Mainly because I tend to stay up until sunrise writing fanfic or scrolling Tumblr or reading fanfic while letting my playlist run in the background. ADHD babeyyyyyyyyy
But yeah so there's some of my family members mixed in here and I'll be doing the fun game of identifying where their influences show up in the wrapped!
Tumblr media
Oh the scorecore is my brother. He made a whole playlist of Movie and Video Game scores he loves and he listens to it all the time. I know the Kung Fu Panda and Godzilla: King of the Monsters soundtracks so well (not complaining they slap).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sorry for them all being different sizes. Anyway the middle orange one is for sure my brother's tastes mainly and the morning yellow one is probably largely him as well (though I do enjoy a good Energetic song that makes me writhe while grinning so it's not purely him). The last one is all me though and yeah mostly at night.
Tumblr media
Goh fucking hell- I mean like I said my family of 4 all share this one account but still. I know a huge chunk of that was me, I-I'm looping Playing with Bad Luck by Set It Off right now and the other night I just sat there listening to Tainted Love for literal hours.
Tumblr media
Oh this is for sure because the song is so fucking short. No way in hell this'd be winning if it was for the fact it's like 1 minute long and worked great for a couple night as Writing Background Music while I wrote Hobbit fics. If I had to guess my most looped after this I'd bet on an AJR song or a Set It Off or MCR one.
Tumblr media
... Okay so I was almost right- I really listened to Lift Me Up that much? It is a fantastic Bagginshield song, granted, and just a fantastic song in general. I fucking love OneRepublic.
Cut Off is because of OFMD. I'm sorry that is exactly the song playing in Ed's head at the end of the finale.
Tumblr media
This isn't a surprise except for the 0.1% TOP LISTENER HOLY FUCK UM YOU'RE WELCOME BOYS I GUESS HOLY- WHAT
I say as I loop one of their songs making this post.
Tumblr media
Yeah this one is all me, except Imagine Dragons is probably a combo me and my dad, he also loves them.
Tumblr media
WHAT THE- MY BROTHER AND I HAVE LIKE 3 PODCASTS WE LISTEN TO AND ONE OF THOSE ONLY UPLOADS A SINGLE EPISODE A YEAR
I KNOW THEY'RE ALL 1 HOUR+ BUT STILL
Tumblr media
I cannot stress enough that these are the only 5 podcasts we have ever listened to on Spotify and that I've only listened to like 5 episodes maximum from G!MFST and The Cryptid Factor.
Tumblr media
This is the one that only uploads a single episode a year by the way. And between my brother and I we spent over half our entire podcast time on it. Granted, I did use it to fall asleep to for a couple of months there. After a few gos around learning the jokes in and out, it was a very reliable Background Noise to lull me to sleep and make sure my dreams didn't get too anxiety-inducing. Highly recommend it!
Tumblr media
I can't tell if this is because my brother loves a lot of music from past decades or if it's because I almost exclusively listen to songs form the early 2000's or 2010's with the exception of a few select bands and songs. ... It's probably both, neither of us keep up with current music trends.
SHOCKED that no Goo Goo Dolls made it onto this!

Dreamin’ of the West Coast: A companion playlist.
Liner notes below!
Oh gosh. The music in my head for this fic. Its a lot! I knew going in that it would have to be a big deal, music is always importing in my writing and since the world of this story is rooted in music I knew that I'd probably end up feeling pretty strongly about it. Some of the songs in this instalment are later additions than others, but some are cornerstone songs that really shaped where this story went. Here are my thoughts about them if you care to read.
Peaches Etude -- FINNEAS
We don't really get into it in this fic, but I definitely think that Eddie uses piano to self sooth, and I think he's been doing the same for Chris. I think this is a song he plays for his son, and when he's missing him as well. Soft and warm and home. Also, Finneas' whole vibe really resonates with my Eddie, so there will probably be more of his music in chapters to come.
Interstellar: First Step -- Performed by Kyle Landry
I went back and forth about what to use here, I knew it needed to be something sweeping and emotion as well as something incredibly technical to play. This is our chance to really understand just how good Eddie actually is, he doesn't get this gig just by being adorable you know. I debated for a while if a film soundtrack was too meta? But then I realized its my fic and i'm stealing all kinds of music to give these characters and I can do what I want so. I love this piece, it just does something to my insides every time I hear it. In my head, the part the band hears begins around the 5 minute mark, the way those last few minutes of music build is breathtaking and I love the image of that music just filling the empty space and the team just standing and listening in awe. As a side note, this is a different version than the one linked in the fic, I couldn't find this exact version on youtube.
West Coast -- OneRepublic
This is one of those cornerstone songs. The moment I heard it I knew it was for Buck. It speaks to his entire journey so beautifully and also its just so smooth and sexy. It speaks of brighter days and that spark of unquenchable hope in Buck that makes him so extraordinary. His path always leads to LA, to home. In this and every universe. I think this was one of his songs that made the band big...but it wasn't their breakout song...more to come on that.
The Maze -- Michael Schulte
This song is all vibes baby. Its about family and overcoming and speaks to who Station 118 are to each other, but it also just evokes the overall sound I imagine for the band.
Wild Turkey -- Amythyst Kiah
Ok. First. If you haven't listened to this woman PLEASE do, go check out everything she's ever done, you won't be sorry. She's a queer Appalachian musician and her music has changed my life. She's a local (to me) artist and is just exploding lately, I'm so glad, because the whole world needs to be listening to her. When I imagine Hen's singing voice, this is all I hear, that rich tone, glorious. This song is hard. Its about losing someone you loved in a way you can't begin to understand. I think it speaks to Hen and the terrible things she's had to overcome. I also like that the harmony is with another feminine voice, that's got to be Karen right? I also get really emotional when the drums come in thinking about Chim being such an important support in Hen's story.
The Boys of Summer -- The Ataris
Move Vibes, Less Plot! I have this silly idea that Station 118 always plays 2 encores, the first is one of their songs, whatever they feel like playing. The second is always something silly or weird, a cover of something they think is fun. I hope to play with this more in future too.
BONUS TRACKS
Your Ghost -- Dave Hause, Amythyst Kiah
Right off the top please know that this song deals with the murder of George Floyd in particular and police brutality in general. First and foremost, if you feel up to it, you should just listen to this song for you because it is powerful and important. But I'm putting on this list because when I think of the blend of Buck and Hen's voices, this is what I'm thinking about. I also think that Station 118 is pretty adamant about making their music stand for what they believe in like this.
The Boys of Summer -- The Hooters
I almost used this in the main fic because this kind of sound treatment is exactly what I mean when I think they do fun covers. Alas, its more mellow than I want it to be, you gotta rock people's faces off in a final encore...so just imagine this kind of treatment but the energy of the original. lol.

Jason Todd Playlist
This is for Lu. Ily and I love your music ramblings so here’s some of mine. My Jason Todd playlist, in order, the main sections explained:
Tumblr media
1) Behind the Wall to Fast Car: Jason Todd’s early childhood. Gotham police corruption (Behind the Wall), Jason’s endurance in a dissonant world (middle three songs: first one about being born to a world that will hit you and keep hitting, and the second two featuring some fairly harsh sounds, at least to my ears), and then Fast Car:
You got a fast car Is it fast enough so we can fly away? We gotta make a decision Leave tonight or live and die this way...
Fast car?? get it?? like the Batmobile? But also, starting from zero, got nothing to lose... finally see what it means to be living. Jason’s reckoning with his own awful life here. And the section about taking care of her father the alcoholic?? Jason with his mother. It’s perfect.
Tumblr media
2) Jason becoming Robin. Charge of the Batmobile, of course. Then I’m ready. Jason is impatient!! Then Little Birdie, which just kills me (in a good way) applied to Robin. Little birdie, little birdie, why do you fly so high? It’s because I am a true birdie / and I do not fear to die. And finally she’s got her ticket / I think she’s gonna use it / think she’s gonna fly away... no one should try to stop her / persuade her with their power... Jason is set on this road and nothing can stop him. He’s going to fly.
Tumblr media
3) Troubles with Robin. Jason argues with Batman, as do all of the Robins. Why do the babies starve? There’s enough food to feed the world! Well, in this one he’s arguing with Bruce Wayne, I guess. He’s passionate about wealth distribution. Then Batman Is Mad At Me Again (remix) my beloved, no notes. Shout by Tears For Fears! Jason speaks up when he wants to. Irrepressible. But also? this song is about speaking out when things Aren’t Right. you shouldn’t have to jump for joy. Then the Bond theme because Jason is a nerd. Then the Finale from Trio for horn, violin and piano, foreshadowing. Then Jason finally asking for love, doing what he does best: making a demand.
You can wait 'til morning comes You can wait for the new day You can wait and lose this heart You can wait and soon be sorry
Now love's the only thing that's free We must take it where it's found Pretty soon it may be costly
Love costs him his life in the next section.
Tumblr media
4) A Death In the Family, the actual soundtrack to Jason’s death. Then the resurrection, the soundtrack to Wolverine getting his metal bones. Agonizing. But it’s fun music nonetheless.
Tumblr media
5) The white-hot heat of Lazarus rage. Screaming, near-nonsensical songs. Very punk.
(note the bird imagery in Novocaine, too!)
Tumblr media
6) Red Hood’s debut. Down the River, full of righteous rage; When The Coyote Comes, a song celebrating a predator and his devilish, fear-inspiring approach. These are a little calmer than the Lazarus songs, but still he is dead-set on his terrible path.
Tumblr media
7) Jason being called back to the family. A window opens up / and someone calls your name / but I can tell you don’t know how to play this game... Actually, here:
So now you’re on your own Won't you come back home To see you're not that kind And find the strength To find the strength To find another way
And then a song for Jason’s response to that: Broken, mostly wailing, wordless guitar, but with a heartbreaking little set of lyrics at the end:
Broken We are broken
In my mind's eye One little boy anger one little man Funny how time flies
Then Achilles Come Down, which I have in the clean version because I don’t like listening to swearing. I imagine this one specifically as Tim’s near-suicidal plea for Jason to come back: if you go I’m going / so jump and I’m jumping.
Tumblr media
8) Jason’s slow path to building relationships again. First a rejection in Howl: I hunt for you with bloody feet across the hallowed ground. Titans Tower near-killing of Tim, much? Then Freedom—he’s realizing he just wants to be allowed to have his own perspective. Then he’s becoming softer, but still fighting for himself in My life:
I don't need you to worry for me 'cause I'm alright I don't want you to tell me it's time to come home I don't care what you say anymore this is my life Go ahead with your own life, leave me alone
Then, for the first time, acceptance. A house is a home even when there's ghosts / Even when you gotta run from the ones who love you most. Jason realizing that he was in the wrong.
And then, finally, one last song:
Forgive me Is all that you can't say Years gone by and still Words don't come easily Like forgive me, forgive me
But you can say baby Baby, can I hold you tonight?
Baby bird, baby bird, can I hold you. Baby bird, will you forgive me. And! We bring it back to Tracy Chapman in the end.

9) Jason outro: The Bat’s True Calling, slow and mournful, regretful, but dignified. Acceptance of his own grief. And, finally, of course, Batman Theme Reprise. Back to that breathless, whirling experience of the Batmobile, Jason’s first taste of freedom in this playlist. Jason’s passionate spirit simply cannot be repressed.

OFMD Mixtape
Having gone down the rabbit hole that is OFMD brain rot, and being of GenX, my love note to the show, those who created it, and the wonderful Fandom, is in the form of a mixtape. Er, rather, a playlist.
Music has always been a salve and takes my mind away from all the trauma of the world.  This list goes from fun and silly to the most angsty, love sick, heart thumping collection representing mainly Stede and Ed’s character development and romance.
I’m going to break them down episode by episode and you can find all the songs linked here:
Please have mercy on me.  I am new to the beautiful world of Fandom (ignore my shoebox full of Star Wars bubble gum cards and my Tardis cookie jar…it took a Pandemic and, well, the current state of the world to bring me to this wonderful collection of people in love with a show.  I’m just a girl, standing in front of a show, and obsessively thinking about the beauty of it all.) I’m working some shit out, apparently.  My rambling gets longer as I get further in the list.
So, with that, please comment suggested songs you find just as angsty and fitting. I've got room for 50 songs on each side of my cassette.
With Love…
Episode 1
We’re going to start, soft and sweet, with “A Pirate’s Life” by Joel Fry.
Yup, part of the soundtrack for the show. This sea shanty by the talented actor who plays Fenchie perfectly captures the innocent (and ignorant) Stede-view of life as a pirate before reality begins to sink in for Stede and for us all.
”The Empty Boat” by Caetano Veloso is also part of the soundtrack and was a perfect way to end the show after Stede experiences death and bumbles through the pirate captain life. It’s too perfect not to add to the list.  Soft and sad,  “From the east to the west, Oh, the stream is long, Yes, my dream is wrong, From the birth to the death” captures Stede’s birth as a pirate and death of his former self.  His journey begins.

Episode 2
”Lola” by The Kinks introduced me to gender identity and sexuality and acceptance.  I was fascinated by this song as a kid.  There are so many struggles of identity in this episode and the acceptance that love is love is a big part of the beauty of this show.  Olu understands his love of Jim, and Lucius discover’s Jim’s secret and discloses his own history of hiding who he really is.  Izzy is sent to meet Stede and the stage is set for an epic love story.
Episode 3
"Fantasy" by Mariah Carey may not seem angsty, but it can be.  At the beginning of this Episode Stede is beginning to lean into, in a very Stede way, being a pirate.  He’s in love with his image of what a pirate captain is, and struts through the Republic of Pirates in his virginal white frock dragging poor Lucius (identified as decidedly non-virginal with a scarlet baptism).  I picture Stede tone deaf to his surroundings and singing along with Carey, “Oh, when you walk by every night, Talkin’ sweet and lookin’ fine, I get kinda hectic inside, Mmm, baby I’m so into you, Darlin’, if you only knew, All the things that flow through my mind” as he sings to his inner Gentleman Pirate.   But I like to imagine Blackbeard’s fascination with the Stede he has not yet met, having those very same thoughts, about the Gentleman Pirate.
A shout-out to the sample in Carey’s song of Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love".  “With my boyfriend, my laughing boyfriend, There’s no beginning and there is no end, Feels like I’m dreaming, but I’m not sleeping” Nuff said.
Now we get stabby and properly angsty.
Episode 4
Taylor Swift's "Wonderland" (Wow, that cover looks like it came straight from “Pina Coladas” by the gifted faeeebaeee! Read this if you have not. Be warned, however, faeeebaeee invented angst.) Taylor Swift has not, up to this time,  been in rotation at my house. I had heard rumors she wrote a bit angsty, but man, that girl is working some shit out.  She and Robert Smith need to collaborate.  And thank goodness she did, because this song is perfect for both Ed and Stede.  As mid-life-crisis-Ed sits by mid-life-crisis-Stede’s sickbed and nurses him with his eyes, and um, gentle touch, and as Stede awakens to meet a man (a pirate even) who appreciates him for who he is, I can hear Wonderland playing, “Flashing lights and we, Took a wrong turn and we, Fell down a rabbit hole, You held on tight to me, ‘Cause nothing’s as it seems, And spinning out of control…We found Wonderland, You and I got lost in it, And we pretended it could last forever”.  That’s it.  The only song for this episode.  It’s got the lighthouse, it’s got the tension with Izzy, it’s got Ed’s plan to kill Stede and assume Stede’s identity.  It’s got Ed’s look, as he walks away from Izzy.  It’s got Stede’s fantasy coming to full fruition.  Ooooooh, the angst.
Episode 5
"Got Weird" by Dodie
Oh Dodie, Dodie, Dodie, how I do love thee.  And really, most of her lyrics come straight out of Ed’s brain, I’m convinced.  But this song IS the inner dialogue both Ed and Stede have at different points during this episode in order to navigate dinner with the fancy white racist upper crust weirdos. “Table for two, that’s all sorted, I played the man, and you bought it, We’ll talk over glass, like I own it….So take a deep breath, a big stretch, baby, It’ll feel like a movie (maybe)...A pep talk in a bathroom corner, Do I down the gin, stick to water?”
And really, this song would be great after the actual kiss as well…but as Ed clearly wants to kiss Stede at the end of this episode, you can imagine this being the scenario Ed is worried will take place, “I got weird when we made out, What a goddamn kiss to think about…Clearly, I’ve got shit to figure out, Baby, baby, please don’t hate me, Call me up again, I won’t get weird”.
"Rises the Moon" by Liana Flores
Just perfect.  Sweet.  Sad, cuz we know what we know now that we’ve watched the whole season more times than we are able to admit to ourselves. (btw-I’m not using the royal we here, I’m talking you and me and you and you and you…we know who we are)
“Days fade into a watercolour blur, Memories swim and haunt you, But look into the lake, shimmering like smoke, Rises the moon”
Episode 6
"I Caught Myself" by Paramore I’ve got two songs by Paramore on my mixtape, and this one is for Ed.  It represents his struggle with the Kraken, it represents his struggle with his feelings towards Stede and it represents his struggle with his loyalty to Izzy.  It opens, “Down to you, You’re pushing and pulling me down to you, But I don’t know what I, Now when I caught myself, I had to stop myself, I’m saying something that I should have never thought…I’m saying something that I should have never thought of you, of you…But I don’t know what I want, No I don’t know what I want, You got it, you got it, Some kind of magic, Hypnotic, hypnotic, You’re leaving me breathless, I hate this, I hate this” and I should just write out the whole damn song.  It’s Ed’s struggle with all the relationships in his life.
"Simply the Best" by Billianne  I love this version of the song that I’m sure you’ve heard on TikTok. This song is for the bathtub scene.   (I realize there have been many “bathtub scenes” over time.  Usually they are disturbing, or creepy, or scary, or romantic.  This one is just beautiful.)  This is Stede’s heart telling Ed he loves him when he breaks through the door and tells him, “I’m your friend”.  Course, Stede doesn’t understand it’s love yet.  And it’s Ed being completely and brutally honest with Stede, and the way his cheek leans on Stede’s hand…my heart is breaking a little…again.
“I call you when I need you, my heart’s on fire, You come to me, come to me wild and wild, When you come to me, Give me everything I need…Take my heart and make it strong, baby, You’re simply the best, Better than all the rest, Better than anyone, Anyone I’ve ever met, I’m stuck on your heart, I hang on  every word you say, Tear us apart, Baby, I would rather be dead”.
Episode 7
"Seven" by Taylor Swift
Yes, I get the hype over Taylor Swift now.  What a beautiful song, and for my angsty purposes here, it kills two sets of love birds with one stone so to speak (apologies to Carl).
This song references childhood trauma and we certainly explore Jim’s trauma in their life as a child as well as just having learned about Ed’s dad in the previous episode.  Swift sings, “And I’ve been meaning to tell you, I think your house is haunted, Your dad is always mad and that must be why, And I think you should come live with, Me and we can be pirates, Then you won’t have to cry, Or hide in the closet”.  How perfect is that?
But the love, too, and this episode ends with love, the near kiss with Olu and Jim, the stuck snake snack scene.  “Our love will be passed on”
And there’s one little line in the song that feels like it is foretelling events, “I still got love for you, Pack your dolls and a sweater, We’ll move to India forever…Our love lasts so long.”
"Absolutely Smitten" by Dodie This song captures the joy of the back-and-forth silly banter about Blackbeard’s Bar and Grill and Other Delacacies and Delights and Fishing Equipment scene…it’s got the giddy first love feels all over it.
“She feels her heart begin to swell, Handsome stranger, you have made her insides turn to jelly,  She wants to dance around the room, Kiss you until her lips turn blue…She’s absolutely smitten, She’ll never let you go”.

Episode 8
"Hate Myself" by Dodie We are now seriously circling the angsty drain of sadness my friends. So buckle up, more songs to cover the last 3 episodes. This song could be playing in both Stede and Ed’s minds while Calico Jack is wrecking havoc.  Ed self-doubting and sabotaging his relationship with Stede.  Stede horribly confused by his own feelings towards Ed, towards Jack, and desperate to have his Ed back.
“Could it be different?  Did I ruin the day?  Oh, do you look angry?  Oh, what did I say?  Filling in the gaps, something wrong with me, I’m getting desperate, losing my mind…When you go quiet, I hate myself”
"Dreaming With A Broken Heart" by John Mayer Again, a song for both Stede and Ed.  Ed has gone off with Jack and I imagine this song has been playing in Stede’s mind all night.  He’s put the song on replay all night long and his red-rimmed eyes say he didn’t sleep a wink (I won’t say 17-year-old-me may have put The Cure’s “Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me” album on replay all night after her little heart got broken-she feels you, Stede).  Ed, waking up, face in the sand, could have the same song playing.
“When you’re dreaming with a broken heart, The waking up is the hardest part, You roll out of bed and down on your knees, And for a moment, you can hardly breathe, Wondering, ‘Was she really here?, Is she standing in my room?’, No she’s not, ‘Cause she’s gone, gone, gone, gone, gone”
"S.O.S." by ABBA You know what, Stede?  You would feel so much better if you just came to my house and we came up with a roller skating routine to this song from a record my mom just got.  We can practice in the basement and later, we can put on a show!
“Where are those happy days, They seem so hard to find, I try to reach for you, But you have closed your mind, Whatever happened to our love?, I wish I understood, It used to be so nice, It used to be so good, So when you’re near me, Darling, can’t you hear me, S.O.S., The love you gave me, Nothing can save me, S.O.S., When you’re gone, How can I even try to go on?  (oh good lord, every lyric in this song is so perfect…and Rhys Darby learned morse code in the NZ military, so, S.O.S.) When you’re gone, Thought I try, how can I carry on?, You seemed so far away, Though you were standing near, You made me feel alive, But something died, I fear…” Every.  Word.  Is.  Perfect.
"The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac After the first time I watched this episode, I had to replay this scene again and again.  It was like watching a perfect music video on MTV’s 120 Minutes circa 1990.  And really, the more I watched, the more I was convinced this is really Izzy’s song about Ed.  So sad, for Izzy.
“Listen to the wind blow, watch the sun rise, Running in the shadows, damn your love, damn your lies, And if you don’t love me now, You will never love me again, I can still hear you saying, You would never break the chain”
******foot touch****** My heart.
Episode 9
"Sparks" by Coldplay Boy are Ed and Stede in their own heads at the beginning of this episode. Stede is shaken by the news he is “dead” and the old guilt about Mary and the children begins to seep back in.  Stede tries to re-kindle the adventure dynamic that made him and Ed so happy, but Ed is floating through the up-ending of his life whilst folding stuff, and that’s OK.  Ed has made a huge sacrifice to save Stede and he’s promising, in his own way, to be there for him, no matter what.  This melancholy song could, once again, fit both our favorite pirates.
“Did I drive you away?, I know what you’ll say, You say, ‘Oh sing one we know’, But I promise you this, I’ll always look out for you…My heart is yours, It’s you that I hold on to…I know I was wrong, But I won’t let you down…”
"Like Real People Do" by Hozier  Oh the kiss.  Oh the kiss.  Oh the kiss. I understand that Hozier wrote the song imagining a romance from one of the well preserved bog bodies pulled from a peat bog in Ireland and a live human, but Ed and Stede both consider themselves monsters of a sort, so, voila!  This is a beautiful song, and the lyrics really do fit the kiss.
“I had a thought, dear, However scary, About that night…I will not ask you where you came from, I will not ask you, neither should you, Honey just put your sweet lips on my lips, We should just kiss like real people do”
"Pink in the Night" by Mitski This is all Ed on the pier, my babies.  “Perfect Day” by Lou Reed is beautiful too, but this feels more fitting (also, fun fact, no heroine).  He’s given up everything to save Stede and now he’s flayed his heart open for the man and there he sits in the lavender sunset.
“I glow pink in the night in my room, I’ve been blossoming alone over you, And I hear my heart breaking tonight, I hear my heart breaking tonight…I love you, I love you, I love you…and I know I’ve kissed you before, but I didn’t do it right, Can I try again, and again, and again…”
"Two Birds" by Regina Spektor
“Two birds on a wire, One tries to fly away, And the other watches him close from that wire, He says he wants to as well, But he is a liar”
Poor Ed.  Poor Stede.  Screw you Chauncey.
Episode 10
"Stop This Train" by John Mayer Can’t listen too carefully to this one, but the sentiment is spot on.  Stede, middle aged and caught between his family and his *still can’t quite understand he is in love* Ed, thrown back into his old mindset by the bullying of Chauncey and Chauncey’s subsequent violent death, flees home.  Life is moving too quickly for him and he returns home, thinking there will be a solution.  Well, there is, I suppose.  But the consequences…oh, Ed.
“No, I’m not colorblind, I know the world is black and white, I try to keep an open mind, But I just can’t sleep on this tonight, Stop this train, I want to get off and go home again, I can’t take the speed it’s moving in, I know I can’t, But honestly, won’t someone stop this train?”
Meanwhile, consequences…
To quote Buttons, the next songs are just going to be pure tone…
ED:
"Shallows" by Daughter
“Let the water rise, Let the ground crack, Let me fall inside, Lying on my back, Lying on my back, Dry your smoke-stung eyes, So you can see the light, Staring at the sky, Watching Stars collide, Watching stars, If you leave, When I go, Find me, In the shallows”
"Where Is My Mind" covered by Maxence Cyrin- instrumental only
"Where Is My Mind?" by the Pixies
“Where is my mind?  Where is my mind?  Where is my mind?  Way out in the water, See it swimming, I was swimming in the Caribbean…Bump into me, swear he’s, Tryin’ a talk to me, say wait, wait…”
"Avalanche" by Leonard Cohen
“You who wish to conquer pain, You must learn what makes me kind, The crumbs of love that you offer me, They’re the crumbs I’ve left behind, Your pain is no credential here, It’s just the shadow, shadow of my wound, I have begun to long for you, I who have no greed, I have begun to ask for you, I who have no need, You say you’ve gone away from me, But I can feel you when you breathe”
"Monster" by Dodie
“Tell me again, About how it hurts, Being awfully loud, For an introvert, Get out of my room, Smile wiped clean, Isn’t it weird, To be so mean?, I’m guessing that I’ve grown horns, I guess I’m human no more, Oh, how easily passion twists, You think I’m a crazy bitch, I craft my words to fit your head, ‘Cause no one listens to the dead, So maybe I will talk to you, The only way I know how to, I’ve said my speech, Through sharpened teeth, You break the rules and spikes grow from your skin, Please, let the devil in”
STEDE:
"Strange" by Celeste
“Say isn’t it strange? Isn’t it strange?  I am still me, You are still you, In the same place, Isn’t it strange, How people can change, From strangers to friends, Friends into lovers, And strangers again?”
"The Night We Met" by Lord Huron
“I am not the only traveler, Who has not repaid his debt, I’ve been searching for a trail to follow again, Take me back to the night we met, And then I can tell myself, What the hell I’m supposed to do, And then I can tell myself, Not to ride along with you, I had all and then most of you, Some and now none of you, Take me back to the night we met, I don’t know what I’m supposed to do, Haunted by the ghost of you, Oh, take me back to the night we met”
"All I Wanted" by Paramore
“Think of me when you’re out, when you’re out there, I’ll beg you nice from my knees…All I wanted was you, All I wanted was you, I think I’ll pace my apartment a few times, And fall asleep on the couch, Wake up early to black and white re-runs, That escaped from my mouth, All I wanted was you…I could follow you to the beginning, And just to relive the start, And maybe then we’ll remember to slow down, At all of our favorite parts, All I wanted was you”
"Ready Now" by Dodie
“You saw through me, All this time, I’d forgotten, People are kind, I was hurting, And you knew, So you showed me, What to do, You said, ‘I will listen, Tell it all, When you’re finished, We’ll talk more’, But I didn’t know how, So we took it in turns, And to my surprise, We found my words, Feet firm on the ground, We stood hand in hand, The world seemed to tell me, That I have a plan, Together, we sang, ‘I’m ready, now’”
I’m hoping that last song by Dodie ends up on my next mixtape for Ed…
And the last song leaves us all dangling over the side of the Revenge, preferably offering Lucius a hand up and into a secret compartment while Stede finds his footing on the water and Ed watches Frenchie hoist his new flag…
"Miles From Nowhere" by Yusuf/Cat Stevens
“Miles from nowhere, Guess I’ll take my time, Oh yeah, to reach there, Look up at the mountain, I have to climb, Oh yeah, to reach there…I creep through the valleys, And I grope through the woods, ‘Cause I know when I find it, my honey, It’s gonna make me feel good, I love everything, So don’t it make you feel sad, ‘Cause I’ll drink to you, my baby, I’ll think to that, yes, I’ll think to that”

Rules: shuffle your “on repeat” playlist from spotify or the music service of your choice and post the first 10 tracks
Note: These are all from Spotify, but I'll also be providing Youtube links for any non-Spotify users. :)
1 : El Dorado - Magdalena Bay (https://youtu.be/mA6lKJNsrqg)
I enjoy the way that singer Mica Tenenbaum switches between Spanish and English on a dime. It's like how Sarah Bonito switches between Japanese and English on Kero Kero Bonito songs. I also enjoy the late 80s atmospheric synthpop vibe this song goes for.
2 : So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings - Caroline Polachek (https://youtu.be/sn3cHUtNZKo)
I want Caroline Polachek to kick me in the head and run me over with her car.
3 : Funky Duck - Vulfpeck (https://youtu.be/dhNfddJRulQ)
"He owns a truck, but he drives a Saab" is the line that keeps me coming back. Also, Antwaun Stanley is just a killer vocalist.
4 : Mr. Pink - Level 42 (https://youtu.be/Dt1APRRddS4)
Imagine this: a fun little dance contest for couples, but they have to figure out how to dance to every second of this song.
Every Slowbro I run in Pokemon these days is named after this song.
5 : pRETTy - Lil Yachty (https://youtu.be/8w3z-7Hq9Ak)
Yachty's weird vibrato moaning at the beginning of this song will not leave my head. It makes me laugh. Fousheé's guest feature on the second verse is great.
6 : Unconditional - Magdalena Bay (https://youtu.be/hQjqyxC97gA)
My new go-to example of how to define "catchy, fun pop song." Chorus is infectious and has gotten lodged in my brain for days, bass line rules, the whole song is everything I enjoy about pop music.
7 : Romanian Drinking Song - Vulfpeck (https://youtu.be/Xg-5ie0OCo8)
Theo Katzman is the greatest kazoo playing drummer of our generation. When his kazoo follows that bass run at around 2:43 it is nothing short of spectacular. Also, Joey Dosik's sax keys apparently got stuck near the end of the recording but it still sounded good enough to keep. These dudes rule.
I've been listening to Vulfpeck's Schvitz album pretty much on repeat all year so far. The whole album rules and this one is a fun highlight.
8 : Woww - Magdalena Bay (https://youtu.be/mb-PYrATAuI)
This is the last Mag Bay song, I promise. This song always reminds me of something that seemed like it came from the Kirby SuperStar soundtrack. This mini song features classic insults such as: "Get out my face / With your stupid face." Lyrical masterminds. Mica Tenenbaum and Matt Lewin are the best pop duo working today.
9 : I Don't Want It At All - Kim Petras (https://youtu.be/JC9FA8lZRy8)
My personal issues with Petras aside (she REALLY needs to understand why people have a big problem with her choosing to defend and keep working with Dr. Luke, infamously known as the man who sexually and emotionally abused Kesha) this song rules. Like "Unconditional," this is everything I really enjoy about modern pop music. It's fun, it's catchy as hell, and Petras is fantastic performer. She's been deserving of the recent hype she's been getting (criticisms aside).
By the way, in case you were curious, yes, Dr. Luke is one of three producers on this song (though it's not under his usual name. He likes to use aliases sometimes in order to hide it... probably no big reason why). Yes, I can still enjoy this song despite knowing that. No, I don't think he should be allowed to keep producing pop hits.
10 : Live and Let Die - Paul McCartney & Wings (https://youtu.be/ZwnX0iqKDdQ?t=7)
This has been on repeat because I plan on writing about it (which you will be able to find over at @therecordconnection in the next few days. Shameless plug? I don't know what you're talking about.)
I'll at least say that this is in my Top 5 of 007 movie themes. I love how explosive and cinematic it is and the way the song randomly transforms into a reggae beat halfway through for like 40 seconds ("What does it maaaatter to ya?") is classic McCartney songwriting (even though that bit was provided by Linda McCartney). It's good stuff. Wings' two 1973 albums, Red Rose Speedway and Band on the Run, both turn 50 this year. They're worth your time. :)
Thanks for stopping by! These are always fun. I'd like to tag @memento-more-tea @themarvelousinterrobang @tahlwyn @the-mind-wanders @oleskellybones and anybody else that would like to join in! :)

#LookBothWays. Do you ever wonder what your life would be if you chose a different route? Or if a multiverse exists, what your life would be in another universe? This film shows us what life would be like for aspiring animator Natalie Bennett. What happens if she chases after her dream just as she planned? What happens if she got pregnant instead? If you've ever pondered about your own what ifs and what could have beens, then maybe this can help feed your curiosity. What's nice (or maybe not) is how it shaped the narrative in a way that no matter life throws at you, things would be ok eventually. Regardless if your priorities change or if things aren't going as you'd hoped it would be, you'll find your way to make things work somehow. Not everyone has the luxury or circumstances that Natalie has. But sometimes it's nice to unplug and just let your imagination run wild, just like this film. After so many years of watching Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, I didn't have a hard time seeing her play Natalie. It's actually refreshing to see her away from the darkness that is Riverdale. Look Both Ways allowed her to show a different side to her, someone light, relatable, and recognizable. The film's also got a great soundtrack with a cover of the 2011 classic We Are Young by Fun. Also heard Breathe by Michelle Branch playing somewhere. Such a beautiful playlist that I'll probably listen to soon. Overall, there's nothing really special about Look Both Ways, but it is something that can mean different things to different people. Just like me, it can also be your mindless watch, a film that can help take you away from all your thoughts, a much-needed break to have a little fun. 7/10 for me. Idk, there's just something about Lili that draws me to her. Maybe it's her eyes? Idk. Haha! https://www.instagram.com/p/Chgt7oNPbB2/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Playlist Liner Notes For “High Adventure Trucking with U.S. 1″
Here’s the Google Play version of this playlist. Feel free to recreate it on another streaming platform or to create your own.
https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-o3dF3RjvIMWmW7tKkobdTPMWwAMKWXk
This is the "official" soundtrack and liner notes to the unofficial fan expansion of the Marvel Legendary deck-building card game. This is intended to create a vibe for playing the expansion, and to give players a short synopsis of the story of U.S. 1 (or at least this MCU-ified version of it). With the exception of “The Highwayman” (released in 1985) and "Midnight Rider" cover by Zack Williams, this playlist is all music that would have still been lingering in the zeitgeist in 1983. Why 1983? That's the year that "U.S 1" was published by Marvel under a licensing agreement with Tyco Toys, who were promoting their short-lived US-1 Electric Trucking slot car toy line. (If you've ever wondered why in the heck Marvel made a 12-issue comic about a superhero trucker, now you know.)
Are you ready for another surprise? The U.S. 1 comic book series actually isn't bad at all. Why would it be? It's written by Al Milgrom – the West Coast Avengers guy – and it has art by the likes of Steve Ditko, Herb Trimpe, and Frank Springer. Is it any one of those creators' best work? Absolutely not. But they are clearly having a lot of fun with this decidedly silly premise. So let's give this thing the benefit of the doubt, and imagine an MCU film based on what the comic could be if it was being reinvented for the screen.
High Adventure Trucking: The Pitch
Imagine this story as taking place in the early days of the 1980s, when CB radio and long-haul trucking were at the tail end of their short-lived cultural moment. It's a time when the success of films like "Every Which Way But Loose" and "Smokey & The Bandit" inspired dozens of low-budget, narratively incoherent comedies and revenge flicks about truckers. This film is very much an updated version of the best parts of all those stories. It's also very much the story of the comic, just selectively edited to focus on the best moments. (At least until "Already Gone," at which point we take a different route to the same destination to bring in a few more characters.)
But enough from me. Ulysses, Taryn, Al and the rest don't need me to tell their story. They need you to experience for yourself as a weird – and hopefully fun – game night novelty.
*Track Listing*
1. "Midnight Rider" by Allman Brothers Band: The tragedy of the Archer Brothers – Ulysses and Jefferson – two orphaned brothers trying to keep the family trucking business alive. We can't hear the song very well over the storm, though. During a violent late-night rainstorm on a windy mountain highway, their 18-wheeler is driven off the road by a malevolent – and possibly demonic – black semi. The Archers' truck is a flaming wreck at the bottom of a cliff, and a severely injured Ulysses sees the Black Rig overlook the scene before slowly leaving the brothers to their fate. Fade to black. Then, a new song plays as we fade in to see the familiar Marvel logo …
2. "Drivin' My Life Away" by Eddie Rabbit: Cut to Marvel intro as this song begins to play. It's three years later. We start with a montage of 1980s truckers doing trucker stuff, setting the scene and placing in the era. Then, we meet Ulysses S. Archer, everyday genius, through a montage showing the good-natured, helpful, and deeply clever MacGuyver-type guy he is. As the song fades, he gets a call on his CB from a woman with a deep twang in her voice. There's another big dust up at the Short Stop, and she doesn't want to miss it.
3."18 Wheels A Rollin'" by Betty Amos: There's a cartoonishly violent fight at the Short Stop diner, and waitress Mary McGrill is doing her best to keep the violence to a reasonable level. She's doing the everyday stuff of job – pouring coffee, carrying armfuls of plates – all while fists are swinging and bodies are flying. It's funny. This is every day for her, and for her bosses Wide Load Annie and Poppa Wheelie. And then she looks through the diner window, and her expression changes from bored to excited.
4. "Queen of Hearts" by Juice Newton: Ulysses enters the diner, and quickly calms everyone down. This song starts. It's clear that Mary McGrill quietly pines for him. They share a fleeting glance, but then …
5. "Radar Love" by Golden Earring: Enter Taryn O'Connell, the scrappiest driver on the highway, bursts in the door. She's ready to rumble, and she's furious that missed the brawl. At least Ulysses is here to flirt with. As everyone settles, we see that Mary and Taryn do not get along.
6. "After Midnight" by Eric Clapton: That night, the masked villain Midnight and her mind-controlled, truck-stealing minions hijack several trucks. Mayhem and crime abound! She does seem familiar, though … Meanwhile, back at the Short Stop, Poppa and Wide Load talking about Ulysses talk to Mary about Ulysses. He just showed up at the Short Stop one day a few years back, no memory of how he got there or where his brother was. Ulysses did get an insurance settlement, but all of that money went into building a truck that no one will ever be able to run off the road.
7. "Nitro Express" by Junior Brown: On the verge of losing the Short Stop to the bank, Poppa Wheelie and Wide Load Annie ask Ulysses to take on a dangerous last-minute job delivering dynamite to a remote mining town. He does, and we see that his truck – the U.S. 1 – is full of little surprises.
8. "Black Betty" by Ram Jam: The demonic semi that caused the Archer Brothers to crash – the demonic Blackrig – returns. Even with all of the U.S. 1's fancy gizmos, Ulysses barely escapes with his life. Worse, his head is ringing with what sounds like CB radio noise.
9. "The Highwayman" by The Highwaymen: Back at the Short Stop, an old trucker overhears the crew talking about Midnight and the hijackings. The old trucker says that it must be the work of Highwayman. Who? You've never heard of the Highwayman? He was a petty bandit who sold his soul to the devil for wealth and power. His soul is bound to a demonic truck called the Blackrig. He's behind a criminal network that is slowly taking over the whole country, haven't you heard?
10. "Brother Trucker" by James Taylor: It's pitch black on a remote desert road, and Ulysses is on his way to the delivery spot following his encounter with the Blackrig. There's a bright light, and unbelievably loud rumble. His head howls in static-y pain …  and then, it's a clear signal. "Breaker 1-9, breaker 1-9." It's someone calling himself Al, and he says he needs to talk with Ulysses about his brother. As his eyes adjust, his face changes from confusion to amazement. Hovering over the road ahead is a gigantic alien spacecraft, and lit by a spotlight/tractor beam on the road below it is a tentacle-armed creature speaking into a portable CB handset.
11. "Renegade" by Styx: It's early morning back at the Short Stop, the customers and crew (except for Mary and Taryn) are confronting Midnight and her gang, caught red-handed stealing cargo from a truck. As Midnight fights for her life using her mind-controlling whip, various yokels become her servants. It's another dust up, but this time it's more serious. Ulysses and the U.S. 1 arrive right on time, allowing Wide Load Annie to destroy Midnight's mind-control whip. The battered Midnight leaps onto her motorcycle, barely managing to escape.
12. "Barracuda" by Heart:  As the Short Stop regulars fill Ulysses in on what he missed, a roughed-up looking Taryn shows up. She says she was run off the road trying to avoid a crazy woman on a motorcycle. Coming out from the kitchen, Mary McGrill confronts Taryn with Midnight's costume. She's been the villain this whole time, hasn't she?! Taryn denies it, and the two women have a chaotic fight in the diner. Ulysses manages to power the whip back on, and Mary instantly changes her demeanor. Mary was Midnight! She's been mind-controlled by the Highwayman!
13. "Roll On Down The Highway" by Bachman-Turner Overdrive: Having been falsely accused by her friends, and not knowing who to trust or what to believe – demons, organized crime, secret identities, and now aliens?! – Taryn ignores everyone's apologies and bails. Calling her on his CB from U.S. 1, Ulysses begs her to come back and help him end the Highwayman's schemes for good. She's never abandoned a job before, so why start now? She agrees, but says they're going to need a little help.
14. "If You Want To Get To Heaven" by The Ozark Mountain Daredevils: Meet Razorback, Marvel's other truck-driving superhero. He's a giant heroic hick from rural Alabama, so of course he has a wild boar gimmick. And as it turns out, he knows a couple of … er, guys? … who might be interested in taking out a demonic trucker.
15. "Delivering The Goods" by Judas Priest: Meet vengeance-spirit hosts Devil Rig and Hell-Driver, Marvel's vampire-killing take on Smokey and the Snowman. After a short scene showing them in action, we hear their dark, crackling – yet oddly upbeat – voices on the CB. "Devil Rig, this is Hell-Driver. Do you copy?" "Affirmative, Hell-Driver. Come on back." "You ever heard of some unneighborly hellfire-type that going by the handle of the Highwayman?" "Can't say I have, over." "I got that 'Bama giant from the Tuscon job jawing at me over on 2-1, and he says that guy's trying to steal our whole gimmick."
16. "Eastbound And Down" by Jerry Reed: After everyone is brought up to speed, and we have a few character beats at the Short Stop. This is a strange group, and they're having a very weird meet cute. Then, the team rolls out. There's only one song for this moment.
17. "Flirtin With Disaster" by Molly Hatchet: Highway hijinks as the team takes down the Highwayman's various agents in a masterfully paced, '70's truck-stunting montage. One by one, the team takes everyone down in classic truck-based action-movie style. Heaven's Devils M.C.? Yeah. Gun-toting mafia truckers? Crushed. Nazi guy in a blimp? Kaput. He even gives up where the Highwayman is. And it turns out that he's been waiting for Ulysses.
18. "Midnight Rider" by Zach Williams: The Highwayman is finally confronted!. Who is he and what's his deal? Is he really a demon? What's up with the aliens? And how does Ulysses S. Archer fit into all of this? Everything is revealed. (Sorry, until the movie hits VHS and Betamax, you'll just have to read the comics. But I'll give you three guesses as to who he is.)
19. "Already Gone" by The Eagles: The Highwayman is defeated! With America's highways and byways now safe, Taryn decides to leave Ulysses and the Short Stop crew. Turns out that she and Razorback have some things in common.
20. "All Right Now" by Free: "So, what's the next haul?" asks Ulysses to the crew. Smash cut to animated end credit montage.
21. "Keep On Truckin'" by Eddie Kendricks: Of course we need a post-credits scene! Ulysses is still trucking … in space!
22. "After Midnight" by JJ Cale: End credits, part 1. (These final songs are just to pad out the playlist for particularly long games, using songs that almost made it onto the main playlist.)
23. "Driver's Seat" by Sniff 'n' the Tears: End credits, part 2.
24. "I've Got A Name" by Jim Croce : End credits, part 3.

Smutember 2021 prompts are here!
And we're back to make 2021 slightly more smutty! Thank you to all people, who asked for it to return and to all that submitted propositions of prompts. Three months should be looong enough for you to create all the smuttiness you can think of.
Rules
All posts have to be tagged with either smutember or smutember2021 hashtag (preferably both). Be aware that ns fw tag is shadowed, and posts with it are not visible in the tags. I personally suggest the revived old lemon tag. it wouldn’t hurt to @ this blog, so that your post won’t be missed, especially if your blog is new and still not shown in the tag.
No minor/underage content.
All submissions have to be at least somewhat smutty/naughty. We don’t require hard Explcit rating, a Mature one is fine too.
If you are planning on posting suggestive pics/drawings, remember that tumblr still has the ridiculous p0rn filter, so I suggest cropping the pic and adding links to external sites.
If your work contain kinks that may offend some, please tag them either in the tags, or in the body of the work.
Prompts are merely suggestions - at the end of the day, you are the one who chooses how to interpret the prompt. You can also completely ignore the prompts and have your own 30-day challenge, we’re not gonna call the internet police on you.
And in case they weren’t clear, here is a list of prompts with explanations and some propositions:
Strip Poker - cards on the table.. and maybe some clothes too. Sexy games and bets galore.
Oral - pretty self-explanatory :)
"Watcha starin' at?" - One person catches the other dressing? Or are they just peeping Toms? Your call!
Gangbang - anything related to threesomes/moresomes/ sex parties/orgies, etc. The more, the merrier.
Public sex - cos the world NEEDS to know you are in love... and remember, it's not illegal if police doesn't catch you.
In the kitchen - some call it boring and cliché, but at the same time, those countertops are at perfect height... Just make sure to the pasta doesn't overboil
Putting on a show - striptease? Cam show? Filming? Roleplay with fancy costumes? So many ways to express yourself.
Against a wall - Vertical is new horizontal. Classic case of a quickie... or just because the beds have not arrived yet.
In a vehicle - Time to rev up those engines. They say car sex is difficult, but you will find a way. Or maybe it's a spaceship? Or someone joined the mile high club? Just don't idle too much...
Hot tub - Is it hot because of the water, or because you are in there? All sorts of bathroom-related shenanigans, not necessarily in the tub itself.
Nature date - Time to return to the nature... doing it au naturel? In the forest? On top of a mountain? The whole world can be a bed if you are creative enough.
Romantic gesture - that's how it starts, with flowers and chocolates... but what happens after? And what if it fails?
Fantasy - We all have them, and so do our characters. All the roleplays, scenarios and AUs suddenly may be real.
"YES!" - That's what you will be screaming... or maybe that's all you can say, agreeing to every decision for a night?
The clock's ticking - Quickie before the boss catches you... or maybe because the world's gonna end tomorrow. Anything that makes love-making time-sensitive.
Secret rendezvous - sneaking away for a date always makes the heart pump blood faster.
Experiments - trying new kinks? New positions? Role reversal? Try it here for free!
Skinny dipping - any beach is a nudist beach if you are brave enough!
Facial - sex is messy, and it's time to embrace it. Anything related to the stckier part of love-making.
Formal wear - sometimes imagining what's underneath is part of fun. Dresses, suits, costumes, fancy parties and balls goes here.
Porno playlist - we gotta have soundtrack for the love-making. Anything related to music or ambient sounds goes here. Feel free to create said playlists!
Celebration night - time to pen bottle of champagne and celebrate.... and you decide what! Maybe even the fact that there is time to celebrate....
"You don't do that with a fruit!" - Insert peach and aubergine emoji here. Food play, aphrodisiacs, or maybe creative use of cucumbers...
Body warmth - Oh no! We're snowed in and HAVE to share a bed! What a... horror. Time-tested tropes of cuddling and being close together, always a good start for something bigger.
Breeding grounds - Time to expand the family... or maybe celebrate the expansion. Impregnation, pregnant sex, breeding fantasies go here.
Bondage - Fifty shades of please look up how it's done and use a safeword properly.
Blindfolds - close your eyes... and let other other senses guide you. From actual blindfolds, through sex in the darkness, to audiovisual deprivation.
Dirty talk - Use your adults words... a lot of them. Pre-sex or post-coital to start another round, oral is not the only way of making use of that tongue.
Wish come true - It finally happened! More fantasies and magical moments, only you decide what was that secret desire of your characters...
Free day - Didn’t enjoy the prompts? Or have you enjoyed them too much and have more ideas? Use this as a wildcard to express your creativity. Anything goes here, as long as you tag it.
And here are the raw list of prompts submitted:
strip poker
striptease, oral, gangbang, public sex, experimenting/ "Try Everything". There's probably more, but that's off the top of my head :)
something where one partner plays with themselves while the other is watching? Not quite voyeurism since they're both together. I don't know what to call it- "presenting" or "putting on a show" maybe?
sex against a wall; in a vehicle; bath or hot tub; out in nature; romantic gesture fails (but then doesn't); wish come true; Yes day (person A agrees to say yes to person B's requests for a whole day); time crunch/quickie; secret rendezvous.
skinny dipping, stripping, sex club
formal wear, pregnant sex
An inappropriate or inconvenient location requiring some discretion or creativity
Sexy Spotify Playlist! Or Makeout Music. Celebration Night (like a holiday, or birthday or anniversary. I'm bad at naming things). "You don't do that with fruit!" "Why is there porno music playing?"
Fishhooking, body warmth/heat, wet t-shirts
Multiple husbands/wives
My prompt are BONDAGE and BLINDFOLD and TEEN ANTICS.
Facial, Fantasy, Dirty Talk
cockwarming, mirror, cam show
in the kitchen; from behind; mile high club; skinny dipping; heat of the moment; summer fling; same time next year (meet same place/time every year or period of time); some repeats could be good too, oral, foreplay, fantasy, etc.
(Prompt for smutember) "Whatcha staring at, nothing to see here"

I thought I'd share my playlist for the anniversary of the boathouse kiss. :)
Song translations, MANY thoughts, and timeline under the break.
Noise warning for song 19, Hinahanap-Hanap Kita. 4:23 to the end. Loud high pitched beeps.
YouTube music version to be made soon.
Translations for foreign songs:
Ewan [Dunno] — Apo Hiking Society — Filipino/Tagalog
Amour plastique [Plastic love] — Videoclub — French
Panalangin [Prayer] — Apo Hiking Society/Moonstar88 — Filipino/Tagalog
Hinahanap-Hanap Kita [I'm Looking For You] — Rivermaya — Filipino/Tagalog
This is a collaborative playlist made with my friend.
Thought Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy would be a good starter song. Something about the music. Represents a good start of Alec persuing Maurice, like, hey, I can be yours... Whatcha doin'?
I added Puppy Princess because of the chorus but I know some people don't like that song so... You can skip if you'd like. KISS MEEEEE KIISS ME WITH YIIR EYESSS CLOSED . ALL I WANT IS YOU YEAH YOU. TELL ME I'M NOT FUNNY TELL ME I'M LEGIIIIT
Ewan. OH MY GOD this song is so them. Alec cares for Maurice, and doesn't like not being taken seriously or being treated badly and brushed off.
"I don't know why you're like that, you're difficult to talk to and you're a snob" COME ON IS THAT NOT THEM — Just a smile from you, and I'll be in heaven. Please give me a response, anything but "No idea"... What a perfect representation of Alec's continuous persuit of Maurice, always talking, always trying...
I could go on with every lyric.
Edit: I just realised this song fits so well for Alec's letters and meeting at the museum. Must resist the urge to add the same exact track twice.
So about Touch Me... Some of the lyrics apply better in other versions. Spotify just has this version tho. Touch me, just like that.
All I've Ever Known. Maurice discovered so much that night about touch and sharing and being with someone. He wants to be with Alec. "All I've ever known is how to hold my own, but now I want to hold you too. [Hold you close, I don't wanna ever have to let you go. Hold you tight, I don't wanna to back to the lonely life.]" Alec opened up his eyes and he'll never be the same.
Can't Help Falling in Love With You. 'Did you ever dream you'd a friend, Alec? ... Someone to last your whole life...' 'Alec, you're a dear fellow and we've been very happy.'
I'd Like To Walk Around In Your Mind was added from Maurice's perspective. Perhaps it fits Alec too...
I think Love At First Sight has the double meaning of the literal title, as well as "wouldn't you like to kiss her" perhaps being... Something Maurice would hear.
I Don't Dance. Based on this post/edit. Please watch this video oh my God.
Pink in the Night. Alec yearns for Maurice in the boathouse. He hasn't come. He hears his heart breaking tonight.
Every lyric is perhaps pulled straight from Alec's brain, to be honest. I remember seeing a post with this song in other contexts with them too. So yes, a few meanings.
Amour plastique. Alec reminiscences on the night in the Russet room. Why hasn't he come?
In my mind, everything goes wild. I lose myself in your eyes. I drown myself in the vagueness of your loving gaze.
And at night I cry tears that stream down my cheeks. I think of you only when the days ends, only when my sad demons descend upon my mind, into the bottomless abyss.
Waiting in the boathouse at night, when the day ends.
I ring out in kisses all down your chest. Lost in the avalanche of my heart astray. Who are you? Where are you?
The moments of then repeat in his mind. Where is Maurice?
I suppose Hopelessly Devoted To You and I'm A Fool To Want You are self explanatory. Maurice should really come... Alec really toughed it out, 2 days he spent in the boathouse, really wanted to see Maurice, really knew they had something, and doesn't want to be treated like a dog. Generally, his 1st letter.
Moon Song. My friend said they added it as a general love song. — Why do you treat me like this? Why didn't you come to the boathouse? — Alec's 2nd letter as a whole. Plus bits of 1st.
And you pushed me in, and now my feet can't touch the bottom of you. ... So I will wait for the next time you want me, like a dog with a bird at your door.
Ewan would fit here tbh.
Panalangin. My only prayer in this lifetime: to be beside you, to be together with you, that's my prayer.
"I since cricket match do long to ... place both arms round you and share with you, the above now seems sweeter than words can say."
And this heart won't allow if you will be away from me, my love, please listen.
It also fits the end of museum.
I Want You. Maurice, can you come to the boathouse already? Alec has no power to teleport you there. I hold one card that I can't use.
I found you. I found the door, but when I stepped through, there was no floor. He found Maurice, bit he's not being here for Alec.
You're coming back And it's the end of the world We're starting over And I love you, darling And I am done, dear
Alec wishes this would happen. Also, he does come back later and they love again over, and "it is finished".
Credit for suggesting the next two songs goes to @beatle-capaldi!!! He also wrote was in quotations!
English Summer Rain
The Most Radical Thing To Do
Hinahanap-Hanap Kita. 1st letter, he's looking for Maurice. Thinking about them together.
In my thoughts and dreams, in every turn of destiny, I look for you. Also applies to that hotel/post-hotel feeling. I look for you, even if I try to forget you, saying goodbye, looking back...
Wildest Dreams. They think a lot of each other. They share once more. But they must say goodbye. Alec saw this coming. Maurice hopes that Alec will remember him like this.
I Hear a Symphony. Alec truly opened up Maurice's eyes. Maurice was meant to be with him. He helped Maurice, changed his life. But now Alec is leaving on ship... Or is he? The symphony leads into...
An orchestral sountrack. The Boathouse. Unfortunately the Maurice soundtrack is not on spotify. It's on my personal YouTube music version. I added it because it just captures the boathouse the only way the sountrack itself can.
The Word of Your Body (Reprise). MLM people have moment of romantic tension, which culminates in confessions of love. Just had to add it. "Haven't you heard the word of your body?" perfectly describes Alec gifting and showing Maurice the wonder of truest physical affection and love. He lets Maurice be okay with himself, and again, changes everything. Every lyric is perfect.
Also, sorry JBW, I like other versions more... Too bad Spotify is mean.
I See The Light. Yeah. Every lyric. Maurice is Rapunzel. Movie Blond too. Both the morning at Russet room and the museum. And the world has somehow shifted. All at once everything is different, now that I see you. "By now they were in love with each other consciously."...
Suddenly Seymour. Suddenly see more, yeah? Clive = ass and someone gives him affection for once, wow! Sidenote, I want to sing this with them and their accents... Suddenly SCUDDER...
Helpless. Musical theatre songs seem to be good retellings of their love story. It's why they belong in post boathouse. Summaries and retellings. They're also good at conveying love they'd feel for each other in general, all times ever. Like loving men, retelling a story.
I'll Cover You. Cute love song feat. gays. I like to imagine them dancing around, declaring their love and devotion for each other. Walking and dancing around like in the original scene, sometime post canon. In my own imagination, I thought of Alec as Angel and Maurice (Christopher) as Collins.
Video Games. They must love spending time together. I thought this to be Maurice POV. Only worth living if somebody is loving you I mean, come on.
It's you, it's you, it's all for you. Everything I do. I tell you all the time, heaven is a place on Earth with you.
Un sospiro. I headcanon that Maurice picks up the piano and plays for Alec. Perhaps he picked it up bc of/after Clive, but now can play it for someone who gives a shit.
Something about the melody reminds me of them. And then it gets more intense... A bit like the passions of love, showing up in sharing and touch and more, too.
Liebestraum. I mean, it means love dream/dream of love. I just had to. Also I just like Liszt.
Take Me Up With You, Dearie. This song is just so sweet... So soft... Edwardian to boot... I love how quintessentially 1909 it is. Discovered it in a YT video. The thought of them getting married makes me cry. This song in general makes me want to cry, it's so romantic, tender, and exudes my favourite era...
Let us float, float, float through the clouds, and just have a lot of fun. We'll go up, up, up as two and then come down as one.
Put Your Head on My Shoulder. We Belong Together. I always imagine Maurice and Alec slowdancing to songs that come on the radio together, when the 1950s hits... Alec probably rests his head on his shoulder as this plays and they dance...
I'm using a lot of ellipses, am I secretly Rupert Graves?
Welcome to the 70s and 80s. They love dancing together and being with each other. Now, Panalangin can be a happy song. My only prayer for this lifetime ... To be together with you. And this heart won't allow if you will be away from me.
Just the Two of Us. What a nice, vibey song. Great title, great scenario of them dancing to this...
Tiny Dancer. Your Song. MLM people in the 70s + Radio, being happy and in love with each other. — I just thought I should add some Elton. A different friend, and I, like him. Maurice sings to Alec, "And you can tell everybody this is your song." That I put down in words how wonderful life is with you in the world.
Electric Love. Fun fact: this song got me to share the playlist. Got me thinking about them and their anniversary again. The funky busy instrumental describes well their passionate love. The highs of electric LOOOOOOVE describe the intensity of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Alt text continued: themselves together under and the love. And the love. The song has its own tension and it perfectly pictures their own tension. So yeah, this is THEIR song quite literally.
Sorry if my music taste is perhaps basic. I just made it for when I hear songs that are Them.
Falling for Ya. Alec falls for Maurice. "I saw you when you first drove up, Mr Hall..." Something about Maurice, right? Plus really nice vintage vibes with the music. The bit about Into your arms and it's a secure sure sounds like Maurice. Awh, they're falling for *each other*...
Rainbow Connections. Gay and bi people. Marriage. Everything that Maurice and Alec went through to get here, where they were meant to be. Clive. Working for Clive. Leading up to now.
All the things that had to go right, all the things that had to go wrong, that lead us to the place where we were going all along.
On the YT version there's a soft/jazzy cover of Panalangin here. Because they're old and spending time together and being happy. What a throwback, a defined meaning in their lives over time.
Still Into You. After all these decades... Old and grown, together... True soulmates... Two men can defy the world... Maurice and Alec still roam the greenwood. Imagine Maurice meeting Alec's mom in this context. If only.
Postmodern Jukebox cover, because they are a quintessentially 20th century couple. They exude vintage.
Some piano playing for Alec. Soft, tender, romantic, emotional, true. Feels like nighttime. Feels like Maurice and Alec. And a throwback to the pre 1914 world as well. Claire de Lune feels like... A credits of life piece. Time spent in the early 1980s. Nocturne feels like that too, but more romantic. Smidge less nighttime. Ah yes, Gymnopédies. The truest credits feel of them all. None of these actually are credits for Maurice and Alec, but I struggle to find the word for this feeling. But yeah. These all have Them vibes to me. Piano of the time just does I suppose. Glad to be reminded of them at any time.
What a long playlist. Like going through almost their whole lives together. 1:52 hrs. Almost like a movie. Imagine that. A full movie of THEIR lives... But leaving to the imagination was a good thing. Led to this such action. Thank you E.M. Forster.
Timeline:
1. Pendersleigh
4. & 5. Russet Room. Night, then Morning
9. Cricket
10. Boathouse Nights
18. The Museum
20. The Hotel
21. After
23. The Boathouse
24. They Still Roam the Greenwood
I just like to imagine them dancing to songs on the radio, for decades to come...
