DEAR FISH FUCKERS, YOU’RE WELCOME

I’ve done what no other has done before (to my knowledge) and found the aging system for the Zora!

Ok so this started as simple research for this ask

See, I misread the phrasing of “best educated guess” to “research for 2 hours and come to a conclusive answer” so anyhow before I indulge you into the answers of the universe allow me to explain the research I’ve come across

[TL;DR at the bottom]

So firstly, we have to look at our conclusive evidence, from which we’ll base our theory/headcanon on, which can mainly be found in the Creating a Champion book, and some dialogue in game. I’ve compiled them all in these bullets here

Zora children are around 20ish years old [as said by dialogue with Finley in her love letter sidequest, I don’t have a screenshot but please just take my word for it]

150ish is considered middle-aged for Zora

Muzu is around 4 centuries old

Curved claws, weathered fins, and worn noses are signs of an older Zora that is more than 3 centuries(ish) old

Zora that were friends with Link must be around 150ish (not just 100), since you need to also account for the 20+ years of growing from a child stage, to the more normal sized form that you see them in the game, ergo, it’s that age plus the 100 years stasis that we determine the “middle age” of around 150

150 is the middle age, double that for the average old age of 300 years, but I say it could go to 400 too for additional reasons I’ll explain later with examples with my final age system. Anyhow, Muzu is around 400 if you take the 100 years for actually growing up from childhood, additional 100+ years of holding a different job as I doubt you just straight out hire a councilman without experience, and then another century for where he first started working in in the council, training Mipha, which would overlap with the period of the pre and post Great Calamity and Link’s return, meaning that’s 3 centuries plus 50ish years if we’re being generous with the overlap. This would help line up with the “for over a century” line as that doesn’t quite mean 2 centuries of working in the council, but Muzu is definitely getting up there to 4 centuries for his age alone

Now, I thought, this was gonna be my breakthrough, this screenshot here, depicting the traits of the older Zora. The elderly Zora are probably around 3 centuries old (since King Dorephan said they were young men around Mipha’s time, 150ish+100 gives us the range of 250-300), so I was like “Oh l can look at the size of their fins and noses and head/tail things and find a more efficient way to find their age” but nOPE. There is very little variation in that ballpark, the Zora either have exaggerated weathered noses or nice and shiny fins and no in between. The size of their head fins are roughly the same, with again, the only exaggerated differences being with the King and Sidon which doesn’t help at all because the Royal Zora already have a bunch of other difference such as their SIZE to name one.

I even went to the part about their curved toes, which initially would line up with some other Zora like Muzu

And let me tell you

I’ve looked at their toes

This is them from a child, a middle-aged, and an elderly. Color doesn’t matter and the curve? Well there’s

BARELY A DIFFERENCE

At least not nearly enough to find an efficient way to find age. Even Muzu’s final model didn’t have the exaggerated curvature as seen in the book.

I looked at their tail tail fins, (not the tail on their head, but their actual small rounded tail fin by their butts) because the book also mentioned how the grown Zora have more pronounced tail fins compared to the kids, but it was the same for the 150s and the 300s sooo not that helpful

So I kept digging. In the book I found that King Dorephan was crowned around 100 years before the game started. In addition I reread the 10 Zora stone monuments and found that he had killed a Guardian with his bare hands and thrown it off a cliff, which he still had a scar from.

[and yes I attempted to find his definitive age by seeing how long it takes for a scar to fade but I gave up cause Zora anatomy is too different to find a conclusive answer]

So I was like, “ok Dorephan had to have been around 150 when he came to the throne, then 50 years later the guardians are excavated giving way to the story about the guardian...” blah blah blahbla I even went to the supposed site where that guardian was, but it all didn’t really give me that much more info than what I already knew. I was researching ways to age the rock monuments from visuals alone which needless to say is pretty impossible, so I gave up on finding Dorephan’s age and I kept digging.

All I wanted was something physical that could properly give way to identifying a Zora’s age was that too much to ask???

Now this is where I had all but given up, it seems that my only answer was this vague note about how their fins move up when they grow

Which, to be fair, held true when I looked at the in-game character models myself, but I can’t exactly pixel measure these things for each Zora.

But THAT’S where the revelation came. I was so focused on finding inconsistencies within the elderly Zora, when I should have been looking at the young baby ones. See, this pictures, literally right next to the page about elderly Zora that I was analyzing for ages, is the key to it all

Now, I was thinking about the rings on a tree, and certain species of banded fish that grow and discard different markings as they grow older, I even counted the neck rings on certain Zora to see if they did that thing where they add a ring for each birthday like some African and Asian cultures do (look it up, that stuff’s pretty interesting!) and that is where it struck me.

Count how many luminescent markings are on their head

The males have 11, the females have 8 (on the one side, the other side has the same number of dots but for simplicity purposes I’m doing one side)

Now let’s count for these Zoras, who are middle aged-ish

The male has 10, the female has 7.

Now let’s look at the oldest Zora that we know of

3 dots above the eye, four on the tail. Muzu that motherfucker has 7 damn dots and I couldn’t be happier.

MY DUDES, GALS, AND PALS THIS IS IT, I’VE CHECKED AND DOUBLE CHECKED WITH NEARLY EVERY ZORA I COULD AND THE NUMBER OF LUMINESCENT MARKINGS ON THEIR HEAD CORRESPONDS WITH THE AMOUNT OF CENTURIES THEY’VE LIVED, LITERALLY AND FIGURATIVELY DOWN TO THE DOT

First we have Muzu, who as I’ve preciously stated is around 4 centuries old. 11-4? Oh, it’s seven, and that’s the amount of markings he has? OOoo??

How about this Zora Lady who recognized Link from 100 years ago?

Seven dots? 8-7 is 1 so shes just over one century which lines up timeline wise. You can even see how the third dot is slowing shrinking on her head so she’s coming up on 2 centuries

Ok how about the elders?

NINE. 11-9 is 2 centuries, with again, the dot by their head shrinking significantly showing how they’re getting up on 3 centuries.

The part I circled in green there is jewelry, not a marking, however this only goes further to prove my point. What better way to appear youthful than to have jewelry that makes it look like you have more markings than you have, made with luminous stone, no less.

This guy? Seggin? Super close to 4 centuries, those dots are fading away fast. Count your days old timer

Random dude that doesn’t recognize Link but is an new apprentice for sculpture making? 10 dots, a fresh 1 century pal, lookin young

I was a feral child running across the Domain screaming people’s ages in their face like a rude, naive, brat, I was elated to say the least. Especially since this system even works on the King himself

King Dorephan has 7 dots, he’s 400 years old. Which still lines up timeline wise, especially since he’s similar age with Muzu who he has stated is one of his most trusted advisors, beecaaaaaaaause of the years they’ve spent working together the timelines match uppppppp

This system works for almost all Zora, with 2 exceptions. Guards have helmets that cover their markings, so it’s impossible to tell. In addition, Prince Sidon, has sixteen lights on this hammerhead because he’s fancy like that (we already know he’s canonically 2ish centuries old anyhow from the DLC)

EDIT: I WAS WRONG THIS WORKS FOR SIDON TOO. The sixteen markings I was referring to was actually the amount of marking on each side of the head total, however if we look at the markings for only one side, like intended

Ten dots, Sidon’s over 100 years old. I’d say he’s closer to 150 given the timeline

Essentially, the most surefire way to find almost any Zora’s age is to identify a male or female Zora, count the number of lights on the side of their head/tail thing, then subtract from 11 if they’re a male, and from 8 for a female. The number left is how many centuries they’ve lived. You can check to see if their markings are shrinking and fading to get a sense if they’re coming up on the next century anytime soon. Comparing this with the oldest Zora we see in game, we can conclusively say that the Zora lifespan is around 3 to 4 centuries since no Zora has been seen with less than seven markings

Now go and make your Zora ocs with your appropriate number of lights. I’m gonna have a cookie

1. How old are they? 28 years old in 1899.

2. What gender are they? Male/Nonbinary.

3. What is their romantic/sexual orientation? Pansexual/Ace.

4. How tall are they? 5’11

5. What do they look like? (See #caleb jackson tag for picrew images.)

6. What are their defining features? Caleb is tall, nearing 6ft in height and it makes him stand out in a crowd.

7. Does their name have a meaning? No, but his nickname does! “Crow” Jackson was a nickname he developed by reputation by becoming a successful collector and a vicious competitor.

8. What family do they have? As of 1899, Caleb has one younger brother (Elijah jackson, 21) and his mother. (Elanora Jackson, 49)

9. Do they have a good relationship with their family? Caleb has a close relationship with his mother and a somewhat distant but friendly one with his brother.

10. If not, why not? (Relationship status established above)

11. Where do they live? Saint Denis, USA

12. Is it a safe place? Somewhat. The law enforcement is large and mostly capable but the cities crime rate is still high, conflicts with outlaws happen often and the police themselves are known for making unjust arrests.

13. Are they poor, middle-class or wealthy? Caleb is in the middle class! His job as a collector helped him bring his family out of poverty and keeps them stable for now.

14. Do they look up to anyone? Caleb looks up to his mother for her determination, something that never faltered whenever the Jacksons were dragged through hard times. He looks up to his brother Eli for his bravery and sense of adventure, and admires him for it.

15. Who is their best friend? Unfortunately, Caleb hasn’t made a friendship close enough to call someone his ‘best friend’. He’s worked with people around the city, made some reliable informants and casual friendships in different towns but remains, for the most part, alone.

16. Do they have any enemies? He has plenty of rival collectors and writers, and has even gotten into a few close calls with outlaws on the outskirts of town. (See question below for more details.)

17. Who is the person they hate most in the world? Angelo Bronte, the local tyrant of Saint Denis. Caleb hates him the most for the way he’s taken over the city, for the way he throws his wealth around and most of all, his child trafficking business. Caleb’s investigated it before and his goal is to reveal Bronte’s crimes to the public and take him down so that his wealth will be ripped away from him (and hopefully redistributed to the community) his ridiculous mansion can be repurposed and the children he’s roped into working for him or sold off can be returned to their families. Caleb hasn’t been caught before but he’s sure Bronte knows he’s been snooping around. Bronte and Caleb occasionally bump into each other during city gatherings (parties held by mutual coworkers) and their interactions are full of barely restrained venom.

18. Do they have any love/hate relationships? Not with anyone currently, no.

19. Have they ever fallen in love? No, but its something Caleb thinks and worries about often. He’s been in a few relationships before, but they were short and they never sparked any feeling in him. It makes him feel as though there must be something wrong with him, and as a result he feels very lost.

20. Who is the person they love the most in the world? Caleb loves his mother and his brother the most, they are the people he’s closest to.

21. Does that person love them back? They do!

22. Have they ever hurt or lost anyone? Caleb’s lost his father to tuberculosis when he was a child and Eli was still very little. He’s hurt people around him as he was growing up as a result of lack of communication, anger over losing his father, and conflicts with his brother-turned-outlaw. He’s lost romantic partners before for similar reasons and he’s lost a few pets too.

23. Are they a good shoulder to cry on? As much as Caleb would like to be able to comfort and reassure without issue, he’s not the best person to rely on for it if you aren’t close to him. He panics when no immediate or logical solution comes to mind, has difficulty understanding emotional reactions to certain situations, and gets rather awkward with his words. He’ll offer his hanker-chief and listen to what you have to say but that’s about the extent of his abilities. He’s much better at offering support to his family, he allows them to hug him and sometimes words won’t be needed at all, he knows how to calm them down.

24. Are they well liked? Caleb can sometimes come off as cold or uncaring to a stranger. He’s not hated, but he’s not well known either, and he ends up unintentionally blending in as another passerby in the crowded miserable city.

25. How do they handle being complimented? Caleb does not handle a genuine compliment well, he’s more used to careless formalities since those are the types of conversation that he’s familiar with. He’ll have a hard time believing that someone has something nice to say to him, he’ll probably deflect it to divert the attention on to something else. But he won’t forget it.

26. Are they an affectionate person? When you get to know him, yes. Caleb expresses his affection in many different ways, through gifts, keeping track of someones favorite things and special days, and occasionally an affectionate touch. (It just takes awhile to break through his shell.)

27. Are they very driven? Yes. Caleb is very passionate and works hard, when he puts his mind to something he’s not going to stop until the task is completed.

28. Are they very political? Not really no.

29. What kind of state is the world that they live in? As much as he would like to think otherwise, the world around Caleb isn’t safe or balanced. It’s not hellish but problems and stressors follow him constantly, and it’s very hard for him to maintain a routine that will keep him and his loved ones out of danger.

30. What are the world leaders like? The technical leader of Saint Denis is Bronte, because of his tyrannical control you can only imagine what he’s like.

31. Does the character worry about their place in society? Yes. While Caleb has worked hard to get where he is now, he worries quite often about how long it will last. He worries that more powerful people in society will take everything he’s built and achieved away from him, and that he’ll end back up at square one.

32. If they could change one thing, what would it be? Caleb would move his family far far away, somewhere quiet, open and safe. Somewhere like California, where they could settle down and stay close to one another.

33. Do they like themselves? Caleb likes how he looks, he knows who he is and what he is capable of, but he feels incomplete and unsatisfied with himself.

34. Are they a good person? Caleb is Lawful Neutral and his intentions are good. While he’s not high honor, he’s not morally gray either. Caleb falls somewhere between the two.

35. Are they very forgiving? Caleb might be quick to forgive a transgression but he never forgets it either.

36. Do they believe in destiny? No. Caleb thinks more logically.

37. Are they trustworthy? If you are close to Caleb then absolutely, theres little he wouldn’t do for you. But if you are a stranger or competitor, don’t be so sure.

38. Are they a good liar? Yes, and a bit of a compulsive one too.

39. How do they react to criticism? He takes criticism quite well if it’s constructive, he welcomes it and will correct and learn quickly. If it is not constructive however, he’ll have a few choice words for you.

40. What is their moral alignment? As stated above, Lawful neutral!

41. Can they fight? Ultimately, no. Caleb can wrestle fairly well as someone who grew up with a brother usually is but in terms of a proper fistfight or brawl he’s not very skilled. In a gunfight he’s decent but not quite as good a shot as his brother is.

42. Would they ever purposefully hurt someone? Mentally? Absolutely. If they are a competitor or an enemy he’s not above using his words to cut people down, but it’s something he reserves for dire situations and people he despises. Physically he would never hurt someone and he would never consider intentionally hurting a friend or someone close to him with his words either.

43. Have they ever been seriously injured? Yes. Caleb’s been stabbed and fallen into critical condition before on the job. He was once bitten by the Saint Denis ‘vampire’ and was nearly killed, but managed to escape and recover with aid.

44. Do they know first aid? Yes, Caleb learned from his mother, a retired nurse.

45. Do they have any other survival skills? Caleb’s not an outdoorsman by any means but he’s skilled in first aid and can build a stable campsite.

46. Are they a fast learner? Yes!

47. How intelligent are they? Academically, he’s exceptional.

48. What is the school system like? Caleb didn’t go through the school system when he was a child, and learned most of the things he knows from his mother and books. He learned other skills by watching and listening to people around the city.

Some Seamster!Quinn Cooper HCs

I didnt intend for this to be this long, but my seamstress heart was inspired. I got kind of carried away, and had to refocus, so I'm going to do another post soon with some advice and anecdotes for wrighting costumers.

For the last couple of months I have been absolutely Obsessed with @poindextears 's Crickets, her SMH post-Waffle Frog OCs, and I have had a lot of headcannons about Quinn Cooper: a theatre kid extrordanare and Hoh icon who talks like he's from 50s and is the boyfreind of Nando (Cricket dman) as we have quite a bit in common. All of Mel's fics are amazing, and I would highly recommend! Give them a read on tumblr or AO3

I know Mel has said that Quinn's favorite place is Joanne's, which is completely understandable for someone who doesn't live near actual textile markets... but Joanne's (and similar chain craft/fiberarts supply stores) suck.

Like first of all, on a monetary level... I'm going to start with the assumption that high school Quinn didn't have a large project budget (reasoning: 1. his family is already tight with money, 2. I can't imagine his not-particularly-supportive guardians gave him lots of spending money (esp with theatre fees and materials) 3. I can't imagine he brought in tons of money on the side with a theatre schedule + grades good enough to go to med school + time with his old lady freind + time for sewing)

With that being said: Fabric is expensive. Way more expensive than people expect. Especially if you don't have expensive machinery (like overlock machines) that make cheap synthetic fabrics usable. Also I like to imagine Quinn is in the "fabrics made of plastic are itchy and bad for the enviornment" club like me.

All that is to say: Joanne's is absolutely the worst place that isn't actively upscale to buy fabric (or materials) on a budget.

- The shop's target demographic is stay-at-home white suburban moms who have the time to clip coupons, buy materials on a "when it's on sale" basis as opposed to a "my sister didn't notice the four seperate places I marked my shears 'fabric only' so now I physically cannot continue this project without buying new extra-sharp fabric scissors'" basis, and importantly: can stop by the store every day for a month because discounted items change on a day to day basis, all of which is not particularly conducive to someone a high school kids on a budget.

- Even with all the discounts in existance, the fabrics there are still super expensive and especially for the often lackluster quality (like... they are fine but if I'm paying literally $40/y for enough faux fur to make a big enough "mane" to cover the gap between the cowardly lion's padding and the actor's neck, we shouldnt have to sweep the fur bits off the stage at intermission)

- Additionally if you need a lot of fabric, say enough 7ft squares of heavy mustard yellow fabric for 30 lioness cape/pants? You might just need to run 4 seperate Joanne's out of two different fabrics that were close enough to each other to work

If you are putting in the time and effort to make something complicated,

- Also, and this is probably the most obvious: there just aren't that many options. If you want anything other than a cotton or fleece, than you better hope the single shade they have in the right color works

So I have established: Joanne's = Bad

So how does Quinn factor into all this?

Well first of all I would like to imagine that at some point Quinn helped out in SMH costuming, where they teach him the magic of using something that already exists. Samwell being as liberal as it is, I would like to think that the costuming people are aware of how awful the current state of fabric waste is, and, how his sewing skills are so much better used altering things at thrift shops beginning his journey twords my completeley basess headcannon that he one day adopts some vintage looks

While I think he would be down to adopt some of these practices in his costuming (a la my personal anectode below), I have a feeling that Quinn is one of those people who just likes to make things from scratch. (reasoning: 1 his general personality, but far more importantly, 2 THIS BOY WANTED TO MAKE EVAN HANSEN'S POLO BY HAND, WHY??? WHAT IS THE PURPOSE??? DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH TIME THAT TAKES???????? YOU ARE WILLING TO SPEND UPWORDS OF TEN HOURS OF YOUR LIFE ON A MODERN STYLE SHIRT THATS GOING TO BE SEEN 4 TIMES???)

I get it, especially for historical reconstructions, there are people who genuinely love sewing by hand, I love Bernadette Banner as much as the next seamstress, but I honestly don't know how they do it.

I like to think that Quinn would be wandering around some thrift store and out of the corner of his eye notice some curtains and have a vision of frolicking through a meadow like Julie Andrews in cloths made out of a curtain... metaphorically. But he def gets "Do a Dear" stuck in his head every time he wears it

Of course the SMH Costuming crew introduce him to some better places to at least get draping and mock up fabrics, but I think they would also introduce him to an actual fabric store.

Samwell is close enough to Boston that I'm sure there's an actual fabric warehouse within driving distance, so when Quinn can't find a suitable material at his beloved Joanne's, and is understandably skeptical about ordering fabric online, Ford is just like dude, go to the fabric warehouse, so he gives it a try.

Ok his fist thought when he gets there is omg everything is so big. Ok, that's his second thought, his first thought is ugh this smells like the SMH locker room, bc a giant block of concrete with no internal climate control in the New England humidity stuffed to the brim with moisture-holding fabric is def gonna make some kind of funk.

But after that like...

Ok, on the left is your average Joanne's while on the right is your average fabric warehouse

I can totally imagine him physically getting lost. He is tiny, and those places are total mazes, absolutely ginormus, they are all stacked literally 8 feet tall, and all the rows look the same.

Fabric in warehouses is stored for maximum capacity as opposed to places like Joanne's where it is purposely stored in ways that display the whole selection at once. Additionally, while hobbyist bolts face out as much as possible so you can see it at a glance, professional grade bolts face in for protection

...If it's on the shelves at all, the hallmark of a textile warehouse is just dozens of bolts leaning haphazardly in precarious places

This tiny boy is just absolutely surrounded by rows upon rows of fabric, stored in ways that are absolutely not conducive to being looked at easily, and is incredibly frusturated bc Aggghhh I can't look at any of this without moving all of it around, and I can't reach any of it!!!

BUT!

Guess what he has?

Nando to the rescue!

Quinn's big strong dman boyfriend is more than willing to move around and carry the bolts for him and when need be he'll just straight up plop Quinn on his shoulders so he can see the stuff at the top :)

Ok, that's the gist of what I had to say, some other little seamster!Quinn hcs:

his old lady friend taught him the absolute basics, and his wedding gift from her is her 70 year old sewing machine that he first learned to sew on and he treasures that thing FOREVER

bc of his apparent love of hand sewing he is one of those people that swears by genuine leather thimbles, idk why it just feels like him

whenever people compliment his outfit he is just casually like "Oh thanks, I made it" (bc non sewers are always astounded by that and we get to gloat) because I said so

Personal Character Analysis: Lithuania

Just a quick headcanon/essay about Lithuania, Latvia, the Duchy of Samogitia, The Interwar, WW2, and how all of this helps him to make forgiveness with Poland, who absolutely betrayed him. Also why he chooses, even now that he is free, to overwork himself and run himself exhausted. In short I wrote this for myself to help explain how I can justify how LietPol as a ship is even though they had a pretty bad war between one another. The TL;DR of it is: Because Lithuania was bad too in the past and those he cared for, forgave him, he was able to forgive Poland for the Vilnius Conflict in a similar matter. So what we know is that Lithuania used to be one of the biggest countries in Europe. He ruled for a time most of Eastern Europe as a massive entity that defied a lot of odds. Born of a Baltic Tribe that mostly did stuff in the forests, the Lithuanians did very hard to fight, build, grow, and become an actual nation, all while grabbing hard onto their own religion and culture as the threat of the Crusaders gnawed at them. The last of the countries in Europe to be baptised, which also speaks one of the oldest (unchanged, there are older, but Lithuanian is mostly unchanged from thousands of years ago) languages in Europe (arguably the world) Lithuania was fierce, is fierce, and still around today though it’s really really been through a lot and nothing like it was when it ruled. Throughout this time it had been in wars, alliances, and then controlled. The Grand Duchy of Lithuania (GDL) was a powerhouse with the Duchy of Samogitia to the west and The Duchy of Livonia to the North, these days, mostly, is considered to be what people want to consider as Present Day Latvia (as most of it is). Also there the Duchy of Courland to the North-West. The GDL held mostly full power over Samogitia, a similar tribe, which craved and battled for independence (even still today) against Lithuanians themselves. They would lose each time. If Samogitia (there is OCs of this region) were a person, they would be in a position where they would hold great, great hatred towards GDL. At the same time, Livonia, the parts with the Baltic Tribe (Commonly these days Latvians) was tossed around by the GDL. Of course, GDL always did its best to get them back, but it would probably put a lot of unneeded stress, especially on the Samogitians that wanted to not be apart of the GDL in the first place. I can’t see Livonia/Latvians nor Samogitians be exactly HAPPY with the GDL during these times and manners got a bit weirder when GDL merged with Poland. Before the Commonwealth, GDL also did this with Poland a bit. He stomped the Samogitians from being independent and used the land, even if small chunks, to fight people. So starting with Poland. These two were side by side for almost 500 years (At the very least, 1396~1864 (though I think they worked together before that some and worked together after that some). They were absolute power-couple that took down the Germans, Russians, Swedes. Before the Union of Lublin which involved the actual merging, they had the Union prior to that which formed in 1396 that made them allies in war and battle. Lithuania and Poland were, from that point on, very closely working together. Most wars you will Google will have them either working side by side or offering hands to one another to work on fending off Swedes, Germans, Russians, their Nobility (which lead to their downfall ultimately - He half blames Poland (Polish was COOL, it was seen as the rich people language and culture and dominated the PLC), blames himself for not checking things sooner, but they both blame the Rich.). Lithuania and Poland fought side by side even though the partition period and into the 1800s. There are two big uprisings they both lost that were attempts at rebuilding what they lost. That is a bit when things started to go separate ways from them (mid-late 1800s). Poland became more headstrong and even somehow ended up on both sides in WW1. After WW1, a complicated event happened right after Lithuanians got independence, that can really be summed down as; Poland’s Leader at the Time (thus, Poland) took Vilnius (the historic capital of Lithuania) and claimed it as their own in an invasion after chasing out the Russians. They went in, pushed the Russians out, then argued that because most the people in Vilnius were Polish, that they take it. Their leader at the time made a law that said (because at the end of WW1, it was ALL ABOUT BORDERS) if a city or land is filled with a majority of X people, it belongs to that country. Lithuanians said no to this so they cut off ties with Poland and Lithuania temporary moved the capital to Kaunas. Poland eventually forced Lithuania to re-establish diplomatic relations as Soviet threat became louder. Anyways we all know that Russia goes and takes Vilnius from Poland and then uses it as bait to get Lithuania back to Russian Control. Around this time Russia snags Estonia and Latvia with ultimatums of their own and at this time Poland was mostly off the map again. WW2 ends. Poland gets back on the map under the ‘care’ of Russia. Due to a flaw in the political system that Poles had, it forced them to go under Soviet Control. They did have free elections but if most of the people voting are communists, you get communist leaders. Between 1920~1980 or so, I would think Lithuania hated Poland the most. Between the taking of his capital, the propaganda spread by Russians and Germans, and all of this, Lithuania just wanted Poland not to exist and was happy that he had suffered-- but at the same time he remembered to himself how for half his life (or at least time as a nation) he had this guy by his side. He watches during the 50s and 60s as Poles try to uprise against their forced Soviet Government, he watches as Poles finally get the power to form a political party that becomes a threat to the USSR and feels inspired, remembering how much of a powerhouse Poland is and remembering the powerhouse that HE WAS. When the Poles formed Solidarity and kept that party even through Martial Law, Lithuania watched as they didn’t give up. He, along with the support of the Baltic States (which had their own failed uprisings in the 50s and 60s) made loud protest now. Seeing as the west had their eyes on Poland they could see the huge revolutions that they too were making. Lithuania felt determined that if it was possible for Poland to do it, he could do it too, and he did. Because of this, it was the first step for him to forgive Poland for doing what he did, after all, he remembered how much of a dick he was in both WW2 and when he was an independent giant, and how Latvia AND Samogitia have mostly forgiven him. He thinks that if they were able to forgive him from stomping out the Samogitians will for independence and if Latvia could forgive him as using him as a tool/plot of land, that he could give Poland another chance, especially after inspiring him and his fellow Baltics to take even more of a stand.

2019 Megaman Valentine’s Day Contest Rules Post

It’s year number 12 of lovey dovey-buku contest art, and I’m back at it again. No secret categories, no surprise themes. These are just the two options you all voted on the most, this time around. Let’s do it!

Two categories, in which you are allowed to submit one entry for each category, if you would like. If you place in one category, you will be automatically disqualified from the other, for reasons of fairness, and to give other people a chance to win a prize.

CATEGORY 1: The Way To A Mega Man’s Heart Is Through His Stomach (Talent)

Content Requirements:

* A pinup category focusing on Mega Man characters who are cooking, baking, eating, feeding their partner, lounging on or around supersized pieces of food, or creatively wearing clothing that appears to be made out of aesthetically appealing food products. Basically, some sort of delectable food must be drawn along with at least one character.

* As this is the talent category, judging will be based primarily on the overall composition of your piece and your artistic skills. How well can you bring delicious, appetizing food to life, along with your delicious, appetizing character(s)?

Who says robots can’t enjoy food? Certainly not Fully Charged Guts Man. XD

A popular proverb has long held that one can often fall deeper in love due to their partner preparing their favorite food or sharing a romantic meal with one another. There have been many instances of Mega Man characters who would likely operate in a similar fashion, due to their love for their fave dishes. Netto has his insatiable craving for curry, while his papa Yuuichirou’s palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy, as he holds his fork waiting for mama’s spaghetti. Megaman Volnutt wants his sweets so badly, he’d kick a vending machine to pieces to get them, or bug the lady at Jetlag Bakery for those yummy confectioneries. Kelvin Stelar went a more healthy route and loved carrots as much as his wife’s homemade carrot gratin. And don’t forget the delicious cake waiting for Ashe or Grey in the fridge of Hunter’s Camp 4.

So, your task for this category is to draw the Mega Man character(s) of your choice tempting their Valentine with some delicious food. Some sweets for their sweetie, if you will. But the character you draw can be pretty tempting themselves, to go along with their treats. Create a tastefully seductive combo meal that will leave our mouths watering for more!

Now remember, as much as some of you out there might have first thoughts to draw some melons, bananas and glazed honey buns, this category is not meant to get explicit. No frontal nudity is allowed. So please follow tumblr brand censorship guidelines™ when creating your art, or it will be flagged, hidden from the public and not included in the competition. ;p

CATEGORY 2: Princess Sigmia Returns (Humor)

Content Requirements:

* A Megaman character who takes the primary form of another, opposite gender Megaman character due to a magical crown/mystery tank/navigator’s headset/biometal/battle chip/etc. This character is looking for love this Valentine’s Day. How they attempt to obtain a date/partner is up to you.

* As this is the humor category, judging will be based primarily on how funny your piece is. Consideration will also be given to a lesser degree on your creativity in combining your characters into a hybrid, and your overall design for them. But the point of this category is to make us laugh!

Following 2018’s hottest videogame art trend, that of the genderbent transformation of Bowser and crew into Princess Peach-looking alternate forms of themselves, it’s time to continue that spin with more Mega Man characters.

Looking to clean up real nice in the ultimate battle body for a night of love and romance, Princess Sigmia is ready to hit the club/restaurant/park/etc., and this time she’s brought friends.

Your goal for this category is to create the funniest romantic scenario this hybrid character can get into on Valentine’s Day. What made them use this magical, transformative item? What are the reactions of other characters to this newly made up character, who resembles someone they thought they knew? Let your imagination run wild, and draw most hilarious creation you can come up with!

There are no restrictions on what characters you merge, and no, you don’t have to stick with my combination of Sigma and Alia. You can base your transformations off of heroes or villains, minor enemies or main characters. It just has to follow the similar format of gaining the appearance of a familiar character of the opposite gender, while still retaining some characteristics of the original character. So, whether you create Mistress Ashebert, Mega Man VolBonne, Rainbow Cieldevil, Prince Praika, or Crimson Akane, the combinations are all up to you!

PRIZES:

It’s the usual, ‘get-what-you want’ option, for the top 3 artists in each category. As always, if you prefer a cash prize through Paypal, and just need the money, that’s typically the easiest and quickest option to get your reward.

But like normal, I will be flexible and work with the winners to purchase Megaman-related prizes, if there’s something you’ve really had your eye on and would like ordered. Allen Rambles about Cross Tag Battle

So I already did an Under Night In-Birth Rambling a few months, and I don’t feel like retreading that game again for the sake of another half-baked Rambling like the Persona 4 Arena one. No, I’ll talk a bit more about Under Night In-Birth and it’s Light Novel elements another day when I actually have the drive to do so. Instead, I’ll jump straight into talking about about Blazblue Cross Tag Battle, namely, expanding on my initial thoughts of it.

I had a chance to play the beta of the game when it was available, had a lot of fun playing it, and left it feeling confident this game could sell well, but a bit uneasy as well.

But first before I get to explaining that...

The DLC Issue

It wouldn’t be my Rambling unless I got out of the elephants in the room straight away, now would it?

So... that DLC, huh?

I’m not gonna’ bother defending this, but I’ll say this much in its defense. The season pass and the game is about 70 US dollars all together. That’s 50 bucks for the game 1 dollar for every extra character. That’s not a bad deal on paper. Let’s be real here, Dragon Ball FighterZ has more expensive DLC than this and much more expensive season pass combo pack, Blazblue Central Fiction had more expensive DLC than this, and several other fighting games have done worse practices. Dead of Alive has cosmetics that total up to hundred of dollars. From what I’ve seen and played Street Fighter 5 has a handful of costumes can only be purchased with cash rather than the in game fight money, among a few other practices I’m not cool with. And we can probably go on and on about EA’s DLC practices. Worse has been done, and if an extra 20 buck for 20 more characters on an already decent rooster seems bad to you, then... well I think you haven’t been playing fighting games that long to not see this coming.

However, that’s on paper. In context, this is just flat out shady and I’d even say exploitative.

I’m not going to pretend that what Arc System Works is doing is okay. Let’s be real here, a lot of the assets we’re seeing are being ripped and reused from each character’s respective game save for some new animations, the gameplay itself is very simplified, and the fact that they announced such a large amount of DLC before the game was even released is already shady business. I hate it when companies do that, and Arc System Works shouldn’t get a pass for it either.

Not to mention the fact that a portion of their EVO line up is DLC characters. That just kills me a little. I’ll admit that I have a negative opinion of the FGC and competitive fighting game community as a whole, and I’ve already talked about my opinion of EVO in the past, but I really don’t think this game deserves to be in the EVO line up when it only has a little over half its full cast in the game for competitive play, with about a fifth of that cast being DLC. That means you need to shell out at least 6 extra dollars just to have an idea of certain match ups and playstyles, or worse, play your main. That’s no where near fair on a competitive level, that’s a scam and I hope someone more familiar with the competitive side of the fighting game community calls Arc System Works out on it. If your main is locked behind a paywall then you have a right to be angry and even go as far as to boycott this game for this kind of practice.

I’m not happy with the idea of paying to just to play as Orie and Naoto, but as I’ve said, worse has been done in the gaming world. If you aren’t buying this game for the reasons I mentioned, then I respect you’re opinion. However, I’ll also ask you to at least try and get this game on sale otherwise, as there is a good fighting game here, just one that needs to shake off a bad first impression.

Ah, and speaking of the game...

This Game is Simple

Like I said, I took some time to play the Beta, and I have to say this game is a little too simple for my liking. Not that I’m some genius fighting game player that could tell you all the frame data and hitbox nonsense, but I feel like I’m grasping this game’s controls a little too fast for someone of my skill level.

Let me explain.

In the majority of fighting games I play I usually maintain a 10%-20% win rate, so I usually win 1 out of 10 matches. For a casual fighting game player that’s not bad considering I’m usually fighting competitive players, but with Cross Tag Battle I left the beta with a 50% win rate. That’s... quite a jump, but I don’t think that’s due to my skill, but how simple it is for someone that’s familiar with fighting game mechanics to understand the system. Now I’m also keeping in mind that everyone was learning the ins and outs of this game along with me during the beta, but this still.

This simplicity isn’t a bad thing. It works in the game’s favor and makes it much easier to grasp how all these characters works, which is needed for a tag-team style game, but it is something that makes me wonder how long this game will be popular. This game has two auto combos, for every character, and all the characters that aren’t from RWBY have a diluted moveset of their original game. It feels like you know everything about a character in about an hour of practice.

I had similar feelings about Dragonball FighterZ, all the character felt too similar to each other outside of some special moves. Cross Tag isn’t as simple and not all characters feel the same, but one of the big appeals of a fighting game is being about to learn a character for months and still find new techniques and strategies with them. Cross Tag Battle doesn’t feel like a game I’ll be able to do that in.

Again, that’s not a bad thing, but it’s just something that has me wondering about the direction fighting games are taking... or maybe this is just a product of team-based fighters. That simplicity might be needed for the sake of everything meshing well. I mean, if Ragna could do all his rushdown stuff and have an assist to reset combos he’d be a nightmare to fight against. And Nu... don’t get me started on Nu.

But then again, Skullgirls has a good balance of complexity, and the potential for 3-on-3 combat. All their characters feel and play in very unique ways too, so maybe my worries are founded in some ways...

But speaking of...

How Characters Play/Feel

Like I said, this game is very simple. These characters only play slightly like their original games. I've only played with a few people, namely my mains, but Yosuke doesn’t feel like the Yosuke P4A with his 48 mix-up tools, Linne and Hyde feel like themselves, but with less combo options than in their original game. Sadly, none of my Blazblue mains are in the current roster, so I can’t say much about them, but Ragna feels like a watered down version of himself at the very least. I think that goes for most of the cast. They all feel very watered down. This isn’t bad, it’s just different, and I’m not sure how I feel about that yet.

I’m excited to know I’ll have Orie and eventually Izayoi in the game to play with, but I’ve seen gameplay of Orie, and she doesn’t play the way I play her in UNIEST. I get the feeling a lot of people are going to be playing around with the cast for the wrong reasons.

That said though...

The RWBY Characters

The RWBY characters play the best too me, but that should be obvious. They were made with this game in mind from the ground up. As such their combo animations are smoother than the rest of the cast, their sprites are a little nicer, and I can really see a lot of love went into make them feel and play like how they are in the show. The references and callbacks are great as someone that’s a fan of show, and I honestly think their voice acting improved a little in this game... then again, I’ve been hearing their voices for a few years now so I might just be a bit numb to how they’re directed in their series, but I’m surprised how well they mesh with the overall cast. I can see the shipping possibilities and fanfics already. I’m definitely going to have Blake in one of my presets when the game comes out, probably pair her up with Linne or Hyde.

Speaking of voice acting...

The English Dub

Thank God we have a dub again. It’s great to hear Patrick Seitz as Ragna again, and the rest of the cast as well. The Under Night In-Birh cast sounds great too, my favorites being Linne and Gordeau. Seriously, the UNIEST cast sounds great and their voice actors really capture their character well from what I’ve heard so far. It really makes me wish we got a dub for that game so those overlong light novel portions didn’t feel as long.

I did little blurbs about voice actors when Elsword and Persona 5 voice actors were announced, and I’ll definitely do the same kind of blurb for Under Night In-Birth once all the voice actors are known. This game gives me hope that the next Guilty Gear will have a dub and then I can finally care about the story again.

But moving on...

Looking back, I wish I stated Nine instead of Izanami, but Izanamis were kicking my ass by the time I wrote up my speculation and I was very salty about that. I also wish I added Mika into my curve ball list instead of my wishlist, but... well, I can’t predict everything. Speaking of that wishlist, a few people made it like Izayoi, Hakumen, and Akihiko, but that was my personal wishlist and not a speculation, so I won’t count those.

Anyway, I got 5/14 right. I’d consider that pretty good for pure speculation.

My Hopes

I’m just gonna’ list these down, as now we’re getting into my unorganized thoughts.

A simple, fanservice-y story mode. Like I originally said, this game is Arc System Works fanservice incarnate. Frankly, trying to tell a serious story with all these properties, while possible, will just be a giant mess, especially trying to deal with all the quantum mechanical, timeline jumping, dimension hopping nonsense of Blazblue, so I really hope this story will be more like Super Smash Bros. Brawl’s Subspace Emissary where the story is simple and more fanservice for fans of all these series and just see everyone interacting with some fights in between. From what we’ve seen of certain cutscenes CGs being released this just might be the case.

Free DLC. I already bought the Season Pass because I’m a degenerate, but I really hope this game does what Skullgirls did and have all their character packs free on at least the first day of their releases. I have major issues with this kind of business practice and completely understand if you guys don’t buy this game because of it. I’m hoping Arc System Works will realize this and make all the packs be free for at least their day-one release to try and dowse the flames a little. And hey, the first pack and the rest of the RWBY team is free for the first while, so I think that’s exactly what their doing.

...

I’m gonna’ feel like a chump for waste twenty buck if that’s the case, but hey, I do like the series.

A Good Single Player Experience. I know it’s a fighting game and all, but I hope it’ll have something that’ll make this game fun three years from now when the online community is dead. Something BBCP’s Abyss Mode (because CF’s is garbage) or Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’s Golden Arena Mode. Something like that. I doubt that’ll happen, but it’s a hope for a reason.

Overall, despite my mixed feelings, I hope the best for this game. And as we count down to the final days before release, I hope you all enjoy this game as much as I will.

Dwin’orrel and the Dinner Date 1

BACKGROUND:

So we’ve gone over the basic relationship between Emalynde and Thalandril--for the most part. (http://emalynde.tumblr.com/post/156271641901/new-elf-boyfriend-campaign-character-the-oc-of) This RP is following an encounter I ran for our usual DM--since he plays Thalandril. TL;DR some old dude disgruntled with the city’s progression and tolerance toward the drow who defected from Lolth to Eilistraee throws a tantrum. Basically, the Queen, with Jarlaxle’s help, relocated a whole drow house into Leuthilspar and not everyone is onboard with their assimilation. The old dude in question happens to be a senator with great influence within the governing body of Evermeet, since he’s the head of the Defense committee, essentially. Now, the drow are Evermeet’s biggest threat; making friends out of the nice ones is not in the best interest of this senator, Dwin’orrel. Doing so chips away at his preservation of power. So, in order to pivot the inclusion of drow to his benefit, the wizard strikes a deal with Lolth: she gives him the knowledge and her blessing to create Chitine and he punishes the renegade drow for disrespecting her. Chitine are the result of painful, horrific sacrifices of surface elves to Lolth, who infuses them with her ‘spark’ to create these humanoid spider things.

Occasionally, a purer, better version will result from the ritual, a pony-sized, sentient spider called a Choldrith. Dwin’orrel intended to amass an army of these creatures and loose them upon Evermeet, scapegoating the drow in the hopes it would have them relegated back to hated enemy status and kicked from the city. Emalynde got tangled up in this mess on accident, as Dwin’orrel was a client of hers whom she and Thalandril suspected of some wrongdoing, but nothing of such a scale as this. Thus, she likely stumbled upon too much or was unprepared for a confrontation of the situation and ended up as a sacrifice. She, of course, was discovered by Thalandril before the ritual was complete, as the intelligence agent had started looking for her after realizing just who the last client on her schedule was. The following linked RP explains their last interaction and therefore some of Thalandril’s misgivings, along with context. (http://emalynde.tumblr.com/post/156267244801/elf-boyfriends-dd-game-rp) Of course, the dashing rogue saves the day (although admittedly I almost killed him in combat on accident :X) and submits the traitorous mage to the senate to be tried for his crimes. This RP begins when Emalynde comes to. She knows nothing of what occurred. Enjoy <3. *** Given the magnitude of response to the discovery of Dwin'orrel's treason, the 4 surviving elves--including Emalynde--were rehabilitated by the end of the day. Regenerating that much blood was a task requiring just about the highest level clerics, but it was not impossible. The downtown temple of Corellon Larethian was bustling with its current occupants: intelligence agents, some of the Queen's personnel, and the resident clerics. Two of the women were older than the redhead, perhaps middle aged, hovered over by elves with notepads who were scribbling furiously away. The smallest elven girl was less than a hundred and was taking the longest time to recover; she looked like one of the younger priestesses of Hanali--little more than a child.

The room she was in had walls made of some sort of plastic-looking lining with runes inscribed all over them, some of them glowing and spinning on the surface of the quarantine walls. People moved about in an ordered fashion taking notes of the other figures lying on beds in the room, monitoring their eyes, heartbeat, and analyzing the words written on all of the elven bodies.

Standing right next to her, speaking quietly, is a face colored in hues of deep indigo and black, stark, ivory hair pulled back under a hooded cloak. The drow priestess smiles reassuringly as she speaks, her accent thick as though she was struggling to put the right words in order. "Do not worry, madam, I am not here to startle you! Please just lay back, I am only making sure you are taken care of. My name is Priestess Elvan’shalee, here to watch over those infected by Lolth--and to bring you back to the world of the living." The drow priestess reached out for Emalynde with a wet cloth smelling of rubbing alcohol to remove the marks on her body. "I was told by a little birdy that you would be able to keep secret about my helping out, no?" The ebon-skinned elf tried to be as calm and reassuring as possible, all while still going about her duties purifying the courtesan before her. "You were the first to wake; the others have not stirred yet. They will not know I was here; but for now... Shhh" She placed a finger to her mouth with a wink in her eye. "I am training the other priests and priestess in how to deal with this before I must be off at the waking of the others… who might not take too kindly to me." Elvan’shalee would go about her duties cleaning up and monitoring Emalynde while explaining to the other healers how to treat the curse and magics at play.

Behind the drow, Emalynde would see Thalandril's second-in-command waiting in the back of the room, making sure everything was going smoothly and keeping his eagle-like eyes on every movement within the room--his ears open for anyone coming, as he was ordered. He makes eye contact with the redhead, and gives her a knowing look. She knew the agent well, having spent almost 50 years as his partner during her youth. He was a good man who had this position due to his loyalty to the crown and to Thalandril personally. The slight, blonde-headed elf approaches and asks her how she is feeling. Ethren almost awkwardly makes small talk before informing Emalynde that Thalandril had been immediately called into a Senate meeting by the Queen to make emergency preparations and decisions based on what had transpired.

Emalynde's vision adjusts in increments--blurring in and out for a few moments before the redhead really gets a bearing on her present location. Worry creases the delicate lines etched into the courtier's face as Ema comes to the realization that she knows not where she is. The ebon-skinned visage appears before the enchantress' eyes, causing her to start somewhat-- although the reaction manifests mostly as a sharp intake of breath. As the drow speaks, Emalynde does just as requested of her--lying back onto her pillow with only slight trepidation playing across her feminine features.

While the priestess applies the sodden cloth to her skin, Emalynde glances down slightly, noting that she was both naked and covered in odd markings--which the woman seemed to be cleaning away. At the mention of an informant, puzzlement furrows the enchantress’ brow momentarily, still not having quite enough information with which to place the individual. But she spies the familiar face of Ethrend. The puzzlement and worry eased from the contours of Emalynde's face, drawing in a deep breath of relief. It didn't matter that she had no idea what was happening. Thalandril's fingers were dug deep into whatever this was, given that Ethrend was here.

Her caretaker spoke of others, the information prompting Emalynde to glance over to the three women who were receiving similar treatment--although without drow aid. Curiosity piqued the redhead's interest, allowing her gaze to alight upon her darker-skinned counterpart. "You are quite lovely," the freckled elf states almost matter-of-factly. Her tones were sweet and complimentary, attempting to lift a hand to brush against the priestess' face--presumably--but couldn't quite manage the movement. It looks like she lifts a hand toward the woman but the gesture is weak and wavering. This fatigue was sobering. Never had Emalynde felt so thoroughly exhausted by such a small motion. The courtesan cracks a smile at her limited motion, instead offering, "Thank you."

As Ethrend journeyed to her side, the freckled elf made no show of covering herself or otherwise even taking note of her bare figure. She would appear much as Ethrend remembered her, almost 100 years ago. At the kind inquiry, the redhead favors her former lover with a beguiling smile dampened only be her weakened state, "Well, now that you have come to visit me."
