The Lore of Innistrad: Odric, Blood-Cursed
“Master tactician Odric has always protected the human citizens of Innistrad. In his early career, he served the Avacynian Church as Commander of the Gavony Riders. His cathar troops followed him with deep admiration for his stalwart values. When the church's leader, Lunarch Mikaeus, died in a siege at Thraben, Odric joined the newly formed council that replaced the Lunarch. Odric disliked church politics but felt his participation was necessary to protect the people.
Although seemingly invited to represent Innistrad's military protectors, Odric was barred from voting on Council matters. When he investigated this treatment, he discovered his council peers were actually demonic cultists. Disillusioned, Odric left the capital to join the Order of Saint Traft, a new army raised by his protégé Thalia, dedicated to the old values that Odric still held.
However, a shocking vampiric encounter has left Odric changed. Can he resist his new murderous urges and continue as a champion of the people?”

Today’s budget commander sleeper is another Crimson Vow card, from the main set this time! It’s main drawback is that it introduces day and night to the game, which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.
Hasty 4/4s for 5 are a very solid basis, and one that comes with extra evasion, can pick off utility creatures and other chump blockers, and adds a bit of pinging to the face as a bonus is quite good! The back is just straight up better across the board, but I wouldn’t rely on it. But the front, by itself, can kill most of the most played creatures according to EDHRec (mostly mana dorks) all the while hitting your opponents (and possibly a different one) for 5 damage a turn.
Any red deck that is happy attacking with creatures can run this. It sees the most play in Tovolar of course, it’s a werewolf after all, but Isshin, Saskia, Xenagos, all can benefit from a good beater with upsides. The new 40K favorite, Ghyrson Starn, would greatly appreciate this addition, using the innate pings to bring down most creatures that aren’t played for their stats.
It may not be a Goldspan Dragon, but it’s in the same ballpark of cards, and less than 1/10th the price.
