i adore 13 but the material she was given made all of her episodes feel like they were written by someone who knew what doctor who was about but has never seen an actual episode of it

Cas killing Billy is like...I liked Billy. she was cool. she had understandable convictions about the natural order of life and death, and because of that she didn't put up with Sam and Dean's shit or let them convince her to break the rules for them, but she was never actively trying to screw them over. she even helped them sometimes! she helped them talk to Lucifer in the cage, she got the souls for the bomb to use on Amara, she got Dean back in the building during Asa's funeral. she wasn't bending over backwards to help them out like a lot of characters do, but she wasn't a bad person and she wasn't so caught up in hating them that she lost sight of the greater good. she even came around to letting them come back from the dead one last time. and I truly don't think the condition that one of them then had to die was malicious from her point of view. like she told Mary, she thinks what's dead should stay dead, that resurrected people are out of place and unhappy on earth and would be better off if they moved on. yes she said she would put Sam and Dean in the empty but my admittedly shaky understanding is that the empty isn't supposed to be painful, just sleeping forever, and it was something about Cas specifically that made it a problem(idk though I haven't seen those episodes yet) and she told Mary she'd take her to heaven. I really think she saw it as like "I'll get the natural order a little closer to fixed, one of you gets to find peace, and the other can live outside of this torture prison. everyone wins."

but at the same time Cas risking "cosmic consequences" to save the Winchesters-because they're too important to the world, and they're too important to him, because he can't lose his family(because he can't lose Dean or watch Dean lose another person he loves), because he loves them and that love is what his character is all about, and love and sacrifice and family that don't end with blood is what the show is all about- is actually so good I'm kicking my feet and giggling about it. so. mixed feelings.
