i know ive said it before a few months ago but even though i dont go there i feel like people are pretty meanspirited towards genshin fans. obviously one of the biggest games around is gonna attract people who are new to geek ish shit like video games and anime. which means its likely their opinions are likely to be unseasoned. i think theres an entire world that exists for teenagers and normies with smartphones that we arent seeing, maybe its a generational gap idk

like the people who are super into webtoons and genshin and god knows what else, younger people and normies, lack the etiquette that was basically beaten into our brains through years of frequenting forums and microblogging social sites (livejournal, tumblr) (this is a lie because most people lack etiquette to begin with) so they act unbecoming, get into fights, make claims about skinny twinks being daddy or whatever. mostly cuz they know nothing else. is it annoying? yeah, but it feels meanspirited to write all of them off, and all of genshin off. i dont play it, i tried it close to launch and found myself completely disinterested so after not even completing the tutorial i ended up dropping it, but i have a lot of friends who are normal and find themselves enjoying it unironically and theyre surprised that they do due to the overly exaggerated reputation it has. im just speaking in general, of course they have the same issues a lot of people have with genshin, in fact i think most people who Actually Play Games would...

in general i dont get the catastrophization of genshin. i feel like so many people attribute things to it that dont make sense, like how suddenly all anime character design, especially fantasy, has gotten worse. my own feelings on the designs is pretty neutral. but at the same time its like, a fucking anime game, idk, i dont have feelings on it to begin with because it just looks like most other anime games but hoyoverse flare is hoyoverse flare.

to begin with i don't think hoyoverse is to blame for fantasy designs sucking. i think that is completely dishonest to suggest. as a fantasy fan, i think that its an issue of decay and lack of interest in the genre. i wrote about my feelings in isekai before (hint: mostly positive) but its a fact that most people have no interest in fantasy anymore. its seeing a slight genuine revival recently, but i feel like most of people's exposure is from isekai that take a very minimalist and "modern" sensibility to the designs so as not to be cringe and over the top. here is a google search i did in november 2022 with the search term "anime elf"

i mostly use this cap to show that 1) this is an issue ive been concerned about consistently and 2) if you search "anime" anything these days you get a lot of ai art and that is just noise to me in this context. by the way, in nov 2022 if you searched "90s anime elf", the results are entirely deedlit lol. she's very pretty, and every anime aesthetic page on social media is eager to reshare her and erroneously go "80s anime is the best 😍😍😍" you know, the ova series and tv anime that came out in 1990 and 1998 respectively. its just a complete and utter lack of disinterest in the fantasy genre all around that leads to fantasy anime being swallowed up into nothingness and not being present in any zeitgeist. even tales of, a series that seemed inseperable from the conventions of the genre, has forsaken it. the super tropey anime fantasy jrpg doesn't exist anymore. even fire emblem keeps hiring artists that have no business designing characters in a medieval setting (kozaki, kurahana, pikazo). granblue FANTASY has entirely shed its final fantasy tactics inspo aesthetic and is increasingly releasing more characters distant from those sensibilities.

anyway, my point is that for over a decade now fantasy as us nerdy 20 somethings grew up with has been considered owakon and blasé. nu anime fantasy is either informed by wanting to smooth out the fantasy element as much as possible (see: rezero's character design sense. i have no comment on the story itself) or inspiration from anime MMOs that usually had more simple armor and clothing designs for most players who didn't pay up. its a whole issue from top to bottom, and frankly genshin has nothing to do with it. there are modern series clearly made by people who love the fantasy we grew up with. even those that have a different world view, like tensura, lampshades the protagonist's view of fantasy to the world he actually ended up in.

if anything genshin at least feels like its calling to SOMETHING. im not sure what, to be honest i dont really get the design thoroughline of it, and a lot of the designs are overdesigned, but i think some designs do feel reminiscent of a more familiar fantasy aesthetic (venti comes to mind).

of course its true that a lot of young artists take inspiration from genshin, you know, its one of the most popular games in the world, its like mind boggling hearing how big its install base is, but also i keep hearing that it had some kind of ripple effect on all character design in every game and anime ever. can anyone actually show me like even 3 examples of this? like, be honest with me. is that not peak catastrophizing? game has barely been out for 3 years, its not really enough for its ripple effect to suddenly change the world.

what you are complaining about is an issue that has been an issue since the 2010s. maybe you are only noticing it now that you have a new mediore hatesink to invest in. anyway yes this mediocre and halfhearted defense of genshin's fans was an excuse for me to rant about fantasy as a genre being on its death throes and how people are misattributing the tragedy to rant about some mediocre anime gacha game. i hope the recent popularity of series like dungeon meshi and frieren (i mention them bc theyre currently airing right now) makes people remember that fantasy can be good and pure soul. i hope we get a real tales of game soon also.

so i was catching up on mp’s blog but then i got distracted by smth irl and forgot what i was doing so then i popped over to apple but they made me sad with their angst so i popped over to tomkitty and as im scrollong i notice just this string of obnoxious anons among tomkitty’s cute art and shit

and ok some of the anons are awesome and valid and shit but fuck some of them

and those were just the ones tomkitty chose to post? there were apparently some that she wouldn’t post about??? which speaks volumes to me about how much more rude those plebs would be

there’s not really a huge point to this, just send tomkitty some love or smth because those anons were passive aggressive little cucks who literally cannot stand anyones happiness happening in a different way to their own

honestly it pissed me off a lot. a lot of them were very clearly trying to shade apple while using tomkitty’s blog to do it (which sometimes i think “i should tell apple its safe to open asks again” and then shit like this happens and im like “yeah, this is exactly why they keep asks closed”) but also pissed me off because LITERALLY LOOK AT MY MUSE LIST I FUCKING LOVE DOUGIE ya’ll shading dougie because literally one person ships him with your uwu butters and ‘gets in the way’ of your ship... fucking seriously

here’s what im dreading though: I know people like to ship in ways that i dont particularly ship and i think so long as you arent an annoying passive aggresive little shit, you can ship in any way you want HOWEVER it actually bugs the shit out of me when i see a ship that only exists to ‘clear the way for otp’. mostly because i love sp characters more than it is healthy to love them and because these ships usually involve less popular characters

like... if you ship kevin and dougie bc they’re both scifi geeks and it’d be really cute if they did couple cosplay, that’s adorable and i support it

but if you ship kevin and dougie because “hahahaha this will totally convince the bugie fans to stop liking bugie and then clear the way for bunny” then i get pretty fucking annoyed

there’s still no ‘wrong’ way to ship, but it is a pet peeve of mine. esp because its normally a super popular ship thats trying to suppress a much less popular ship (ive seen this a lot with kyvid vs style, people ship random characters with david just to ‘get him out of the way’ and its just annoying because DAVID DESERVES BETTER and kyvid is srsly the underdog and its cute too, could you NOT???)

so yeah im jsut in an annoyed spiral because those asks were really annoying to read and i just feel like the next step is going to be some annoying af anon saying “uwu what if we pair dougie with bradley, that way neither of them can be shipped with butters! yay!” or some more passive aggressive version of that

A New Wave of Beauty Influencers!

Welcome to article number 1 of my new series where my goal is to cast some light on new and upcoming beauty influencers. We all know that there are the same few LARGE beauty influencers that seemingly have taken over the beauty space. What if I told you that new and much better wave of influencers are on the rise?? Well, today in my first blog post, we are talking about Cody Jay! Cody Jay is an Ohio based professional makeup artist with such an incredible vibe. I had the opportunity to speak with him on a few topics and also got some input from him on the beauty community as a whole. When I say this man is a breath of fresh air, I mean it!! For starters, his approach of being a beacon of light, encouragement, love, and support is on another level. Through my own personal interactions and observations, I have seen Cody Jay constantly sharing other artists work, incorporating them into his youtube videos to help them get exposure, give up PR spots so others would have a chance to finally be on one, make videos exclusively to uplift other creators and artists, and most importantly I have have seen him use his platform for good. It’s rare to see someone with such a good head on their shoulders. Now if we are talking about work ethic.....man does he ever sleep?? Cody uses Youtube, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, TikTok, and Facebook to upload his content, engage with his audience, and create friendships and connections, Cody literally engages with EVERYONE, unlike most who ignore their fans. He has dubbed his supporters as Jaybabies because he says

“I never want my followers or supporters to think they are just a number. I call them Jaybabies so that they know they are special and mean the world to me. I wouldn't be where I am already without every single one of them.”

That’s enough for me to support him off of that statement alone! In addition to makeup, Cody Jay also has a passion for skin care. He regularly creates skin care content that is for every type of skin. He always makes sure that his content is inclusive and can be helpful to everyone. I think what will make Cody Jay a contendor for success in this saturated space, is his true passion and love for beauty and his naturally kind and supportive demeanor. Based on his actions, it’s clear to me that he wants everyone to succeeed and he already has showm that he ususes his platform to help others succeed.

When asked what his biggest accomplishment thus far was, this is what he had to say:

“Honestly i have had so many dreams and goals and to be honest, I have accomplished half of them in the last year. I have been working my absolute hardest and I try to make sure everything is done the right way. I have a few really big accomplishemnts so far. I would say my biggest accomplishents are being added as an affiliate for Makeup Geek because I love everything about the brand, as well as the owner, Marlena Stell. It’s a globally recognized brand and it still shocks me to see my face on their website haha. I’d also say that being able to monetize my Youtube channel was something i never thought i could do, so that was pretty exciting for me. And lastly, I would say that just having people tell me that my videos or content has helped them learn somthing, or feel better is the biggest accomplishment out of them all”

I applauded Cody Jay for his accomplishments and I believe they dont go unnoticed. I truly believe he is a force to be reckoned with. Towards the end of our interview, I asked Cody what his goals are for the next year as far as social media, Youtube, and overall growth. He had this to say:

“I have a ton of goals for the next year. I of course want to continue growing my platforms, because thats more people I get to connect with and ultimately become friends with. I would also like to join a few more PR lists for brands that i love because being able to be supported by those brands and also be one of the first people to review new products would be very helpful. I want to meet some more of my Jaybabies this year and would also like to collaborate with a brand on some type of limited edition version of a product. I dont know what kind of product that would be yet, but i think it would be amazing. And lastly, i REALLY want to figure out how to make my Youtube channel just become a huge hit. Im working very very hard on that, so i hope to make that happen soon.

My final question to Cody was, “ What are your thoughts on the beauty community as whole, and what changes would you like to see? His response was as followed :

“That’s actually a huge question hahah. For starters, i feel that the beauty community has lost sight of why they are there. There is so much drama and cancel culture is huge right now. It creates so much division, hate, and bad behavior. People need to get back to loving makeup, celebrating the art, and lifting up each other rather than tearing people down. Of course the problem isnt with everyone, it’s typically with larger influencers and then everyone gets super opinionated and they start going after eachother, it’s truly sad to see. I would like to see everyone learn to love eachother again, support eachother, be happy and kind, remember that the beauty community is supposed to be a BEAUTIFUL place, and i REALLY would like to see SO MANY more smaller creators be given the sptlight. It would be life changing to have these larger influencers or brands use their audience to help smaller deserving artists grow. Look at my friend Marly (LVNDRBEAUTY) for example. She was given a gift from a large influencer and she took that gift and turned it into a HUGE empire in a matter of months. Shes thriving right now with her own business and it literally changed her life. We need more of that.”

Im from a rediculously small ass town in missouri (grain valley), but managed to get out and travel unlike most of the rest of my town... i work on the road touring (guitar teching/playing... check the "jobs section" for some of the bands and tours i was w/ or on), so i can definatly hang w/ and bro down w/ the boys. . ive been to every state but 3 (on my own/touring and not w/ family)... (all before i turned 21). im a lazyass when it comes to wandering around cities etc... but not when im working... im weird. showers suck, baths rule. im addicted to my sidekick. and my thumbs are going to fall off. true story. im really really easygoing, almost to a fault, i just dont ever really get mad. im super chill. (except for while working on warped tour... but anyone whos been there, falls into that catagory.) i used to have braided extentions for 2 years, then, i had dreds for 6mths, and yes, i managed to spend foreveeeeeeeeeer, and brush them out. boooo... i wub my brothers... dakota and peter (<3333)... (whoa, lame) haha.. cats rule, dogs drool. (although, there are exceptions). i was a total band/marching band/jazz band geek, and i miss it more than anything ever. ugh... *tear* and i love big cities to no end. esp ones over seas... (oh, and im obsessed w/ brittish accents) looking back now, i miss grain valley, and living in the country, and the weather and everything. im a HUGE history geek and am obsessed w/ anything world war 2. i collect ww2 artifacts... if you find anything authentic, original and cool as hell, LET ME KNOW! i took japanese for 4/5 yrs. but still cant speak it fluently. i LOVE doing anything hands on, like arts and crafts or building/fixing things (no matter how big or small). and always have since i was little. i have a list of words that i irrationally hate for no reason at all. the way the word sounds itself, not what it represents. i hate clowns with a burning passion. not really scared of them as much as they just disgust me. i hate them. this prob goes back to me sneaking in and watching IT while i was supposed to be in bed when i was 3. ...bare with me, ill add more new stuff soon, i promise ps. our animals rule the fucking world

Pretty Little Liars Recap: Confessions Of A Mid-20’s Drama Queen

Welcome back to another week where I sit through my own personal hell, aka , and try not to put myself into an alcohol-induced coma. And shoutout to all the keyboard warriors who love to type shit in the commentsyall take this show way too seriously.

We start with Mona and Emily discussing Charlotte, who apparently stood Mona up the night of the murder. What kind of loser gets stood up by another chick at a shitty diner?

Emily is like and Monas like, uh no? I feel like thats pretty much the only answer you can give at that point. Emily figures that Mona changed her mind in the trial so that Charlotte would be out of jail and Mona could get to her, which is like real far-fetched.

Monas like *what would you do if your son was at home, cryin all alone on the bedroom floor.* and Ems like Monas like, well even if I wanted to kill her, she fucking stood me up so yeah. Of course, this whole conversation is overheard by A.

Aria is like,lets tell the police it wasnt me at the diner! Arias really seen some shit lately. She got burnt and questioned by the police. All Hannas had done to her is getting shitty room service food with a cryptic note. Spencer is like,

Lucas is back. Goddammit. Anyways, he overhears Hanna talking to weird ass Jordan on the phone, and is like Hannas like, Where are you gonna seat him Han? No one wants to sit next to the virginal weird kid from high school. You cant just mix the band geeks with the Plastics, thats not how this works.

Besides, there is this scenario:

Priest: Speak now or forever hold your pe- Lucas: MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Hanna is like, . Wear those ties Lucas, you look like a second place winner at a science fair. He tells Hanna that hes thinking of buying some factory and giving Rosewood a second chance. LOL rookie mistake.

Ali and Snaggletooth are being sexually aggressive in some shit bed and breakfast somewhere in bumfuck nowhere, East Coast. The Ali from Season 3 would have been honeymooning in fucking Paris rn. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Speaking of falling, Ali trips on her skanky heel and takes a tumble down the stairs, effectively knocking herself out. OKAY, did I not set that up just perfectly?

Alis in the hospital with a concussion, and Snaggle is like, you need to stay in the hospital. Shes like and its like, because thats how injuries work dumbass. The manager of the shit hotel is like and its like duh you know that shit is tampered with.

Ali: I was really happy before I fell, maybe this is my karma Snaggle: Thats not how the Universe works

ARE YOU SURE? Because pretty sure its an established fact that what goes up, must come down. Also, Ali its not karma, you just clearly dont know how to put one foot in front of the other and walk like a normal fucking human.

Snaggle is like, its an accident and he would know all about those, since his face looks like it was a victim of a tragic lawn mower accident. Ali decides to text her friends a selfie of her in the hospital, because concussion photoshoots, so hot right now.

All the Liars are like . They have 3 days to give up the murderer, because A is a psycho. All the girls are shit talking Mona and Hanna comes to her defense, because Hanna is like, such a good friend.

Aria and Ezra are getting ready to go to a dinner with their boss and Ezras talking about how he doesnt like the book ending or some shit. Arias like and that shit is about to go from an Ernest Hemingway to a really quick with Ezras freaky self.

Hanna goes to visit Ali in the hospital and Ali tells her she is going back to Rosewood when she can gtfo of this hospital. Ali has flowers all over the room, because apparently people like her, wtf?, and Ali says that they are all from Snaggle.

Of course, Hanna is looking at all the flowers and sees a very creepy card that has pictures of a staircase, and all of them on it. Either Snaggle is one fucked up dude, or A is just like, really a dick. Honestly, probs both. Obvi, Hanna steals the card.

Emily facetimes Spencer a video of Mona and Sara Harveys body guard dude chatting it up. Weve all seen , Im expecting some bodyguard three-way action ASAP. Also, how did Emily even remember that body guard? I watch this show every fucking week and make it a point to write down every flaw they have, and even I didnt remember this. Wow, I need to get it together.

Also, them talking looks like any relationship I have ever had: Mona talking shit and the dude sitting there looking awkward. Spencer and Emily follow the bodyguard when he leaves.

Back to Snaggle and Hans. Hanna is like, And Snaggle is like, Im sure you said the same thing about that B and B, you human chipmunk. Hes like and its like cough, cough, lesbianssssss.

Spencer and Emily follow the bodyguard and act like idiots on crack and pretend to hit the bodyguards car. Hes like uhhhh no its fine, and Spencer somehow manages to get information on the papers he is holding. I have seen better body guarding by the fucking preteens in Project X. Seriously who is this dude?

Spencer learns that the documents our shit security guard has are blueprints to Radley, because of fucking course. Do they just hand out blueprints willy nilly in this town? God I hate myself every time I watch this stupid fucking show.

Aria is reading Ezras newest chapter and it flashes back to a conversation with Ezra and Nicole. Ezra is begging Nicole to come with him, but shes like

Anyways, Ezra goes to his typical EZRA MAD, EZRA SMASH mode and basically yells at her and leaves fucking pissed off. And yeah, thats the last time he saw his girlfriend. One girlfriend you took advantage of when she was a teenager, the other you let get kidnapped by terrorists. Let that soak in.

Hes like , and Arias like,

Emily follows the bodyguard to a fucking ice cream truck? Wtf? And hes just casually sitting there, licking a Drumstick, when Sara Harvey drives up and gets something from him. Wait a second, she cant text and grip shit because of her hands, but she can drive? The streets of Rosewood are not safe. Maybe she was the girl who tried to run over Emily at the diner. She wasnt really trying to run her over, she was just making a very sloppy three point turn.

Hanna shows Caleb the staircase card. Caleb is like why did you come to me? And Hanna is like They decide to call As bluff, because that plan has worked every time before.

Spencer is on the phone with Emily, when she is greeted by her boyfriend and his ex. What a time to be alive. They act super weird, and then Hanna makes up some bullshit story about how she killed Charlotte. She starts crying to Spencer and Spencer is like YOOOOO THIS IS HEAVY SHIT.

Then Hannas like PSYCH and tells Caleb Well thats the stupidest shit Ive ever heard. Caleb is like and its like NO WTF HANNA DOESNT KNOW JACK SHIT. LITERALLY ANYTHING AT ALL. NOTHING. SHE KNOWS NOTHING. Why doesnt anyone understand this?

Aria and Ezra are at dinner with the editor and shes like, l Arias like and Ezra is like NAH I GOT U FAM, Ill have it to you by next week. Ezras that dick in every college class who votes against the deadline extension. There is a special place in hell for you.

Hanna and Caleb are pleading their case to Emily and Emilys like And for once, I agree with her. Spencer backs up Caleb and Hanna and is like, *under her breath* . This sounds like every parental argument.

Emily/Dad: We cant support our daughter moving in with her boyfriend Spencer/Mom: We need to support her, because if we dont shell work against us. And I want grandbabies!

Hanna is like and grabs Calebs hand very lovingly. Spencers like and its all v awkward. Spencer does what I would 100% do in this situationmake snarky jealous comments and guzzle a shit ton of red wine. I am Spencer, we are all Spencer (without the bangs, obviously.)

Emily also suggests they visit Ye Old Lizard King Toby and let him know about this whole shindig. Again, this idea never works out.

The editor lady tells her that Liam isnt on the team anymore and Aria is like, uhhhh okay. So I guess that relationship is pretty much dead. Good talk.

Spencer flashes back to a night with Caleb in Europe, talking about art and his foster homes or some shit. Yawn. For once, Spencer actually looks good in a nice dress. You did okay PLL wardrobe, dont get too excited over your one time you didnt fail.

Its a pretty pointless flashback, except it shows major sexual tension between Spencer and Caleb in Europe, which is like right after they both broke up with their significant others. See, I told you it was pointless?

Caleb goes to drop Hanna off at Lucas place and he asks Caleb on a very awkward man date. Below are the actual quotes:

Lucas: Do you lunch? Caleb: Uh, yeah I lunch. Lucas: Lets lunch!

A whole portion of dialogue that could have been summed up to we should get lunch sometime. Fuck yourself, Freeform.

Lucas shows Hanna the factory he wants to build and is like Shes like If she even THINKS her shit is going to be better than Clothes Over Bros, shes straight trippin. Lucas is like Bitches love companies.

Okay my high school friends will barely buy me a beer, let alone give me a fucking factory.

Ali has a dream of some kind and sees her mom, dressed in a fugly green top and with some bushy ass hair. I know they have leave-in conditioner in heaven, you lazy bitch. She tells Ali that Snaggle will take care of her and that she loves her, yadda yadda. For a loving mother, she also looks like she lowkey wants to strangle the shit out of Ali.

Mona and Sara meet up, the two sketchiest bitches on the block. Sara looks like Miley Cyrus if she ate herself and took makeup inspiration from a raccoon. Seriously there is like 6 pounds of eyeliner on this bitch.

Mona is like and Sara is like Sara is like, . Oh stfu Sara. You look like a balloon shaped like Nick Carter and your only friend is a dude who eats ice cream on a street corner like a fucking poverty stricken 6-year-old.

Ezra and Aria are having tea like a bunch of pussies and Aria drops the A bomb on him. She goes from 0 to 100 real quick and is like I HAVE TO END THIS.

Back to Ali and Snaggle. Lucky us. Ali tells Snaggle to go to his conference in Chicago and that when he gets back theyll resume their daily programing of boning each other (what a fucking gross mental picture.)

Caleb and Hanna present their shit idea to the group, who all agreeits a shit idea. Caleb is like . Hes getting awfully close to Hanna and Spencer looks like she is about to cut a bitch.

Caleb: This isnt a cheer-ocracy Spencer: Youre being a real cheer-tator, Caleb!

The plan starts by Hanna sending a message to A saying leave my friends alone and then a Carly Rae Jepsen-esqe version of Call Me comes on, while the binary code of her text shows up on the screen. A gets the text of that dumbass admitting to murder. Its about to go down.
