NGC 7822 - The Question Mark Nebula I attempted this target earlier in the year using the L-eNhance filter and once I got the L-eXtreme I wanted to give it another go. Captured over 3 nights at the end of imaging sessions, I was able to capture 4.5 hours and it blows my 3 hours with the L-eNhance away. I’ve always wanted to image this area and I finally got around to it…I think I’ll try a longer focal length, on the foreground, next time. As Milky Way Season winds down, I’m planning to do more star trail images. Astrophotography is my favorite despite the fact that it’s what I’m doing the least. Cocoon Nebula - IC 5146 Located in Cygnus, the IC 5146 is a reflection and emission nebula. I finally decided to put everything together on the Celestron EdgeHD 8 for deep space and do some testing to make sure my guiding worked and that I could reach focus. Guiding was the easy part, focus was the pain. I finally got it and on the first night I captured m27 amd NGC 869, those I will post soon. On night two, I decided to shoot the Cocoon on both my Edge as well as my Meade 80mm Triplet. This here is from the Edge, and though I had some focus drift in the middle of my imaging (can't seem to get the auto focus to do its thing when using my Canon), I am happy with the result, especially considering I did not use any filters. . Gum 51 or RCW105 A very very faint nebula (can't even see it in stellarium! So framing was difficult!) Took about 8 hours but culled to 5 and I think it still needs more time!! I pushed this data quite hard, there was alot of noise to clean up. I think a mono camera and HA filter would be better suited. It's located in the constellation Norma. Using my 750mm Newt. The heavens at halfway 📆 Not quite halfway, but it was only a week after the midpoint of 2018 when I was out in the cold of an Aussie winter night, capturing the photos that I used to create this vertical panoramic image. Located near the rural city of Lismore in New South Wales, Australia, this old and former church building is blessed with dark skies on a moonless night. The lack of light pollution, as well as the dry and clear air on that evening, provided excellent conditions for revealing the wispy dust lanes and dark nebulae that characterise the core region of our Milky Way galaxy. 🌌🌟💫 As with so many of my photos from this year, Mars is a dominant player in the scene, looking big, bright and orange over at the top-left of the frame. The Large Magellanic Cloud is peeking out from the bottom edge of the church’s roof on the left, with its sibling the Small Magellanic Cloud making a more conspicuous appearance over the tree near the lower corner of the frame. The short tail of a meteor forms a triangle with Mars and the Small Cloud. For all of the interest that these celestial objects give to the scene, it’s our majestic, magic and magnificent Milky Way that my eyes go straight to, every time I look at this photo. 📷 As I mentioned above, this is a vertical panorama which I composited from ten single, overlapping images. For each of those individual frames I used a Canon EOS 6D Mk II camera, a Rokinon 24mm lens @ f/2.4, and a 15-second exposure @ ISO 6400.
