ithums replied to your post “ithums replied to your post “so who else thinks elf!zenos, the...”
yes but i will still fite you
so it’s like this--
SB as a whole (ala mhigo and the far east) have a marked dearth of elezen characters (which i think is partly due to out-of-universe reasons; the previous expansion was All Elfs All The Time and xiv players who don’t have elfs as their faves deserve to have Nice Things Too); it being “just a rando elezen dude” isn’t as plausible as it’d be if this shit was going down in ishgard or gridania or wherever, because this region’s randos are usually highlanders, hellsguards, or cattes.
(now, a lot of imperial garlean mobs have been using elezen models in gyr abanian regions, and i expect that in the event this bodysnatched elf IS a rando, that’s the explanation there).
and of the known elezen men who’ve been in ala mhigo, estinien is the only one where if he just fucking VANISHED for months with no explanation, his absence wouldn’t be noticed for a long time because he’s a known disaster who just DOES this shit on his own. if it was almost anyone else, we’d know they were gone because it’d be a big deal.
also, and most importantly
zenos became shinryu, the two became one--and shinryu came into being from nidhogg’s eyeballs, and the last person to have been in contact with the eyeballs was estinien, when he popped ‘em in the epilogue of SB. and considering how much of a big deal it was made out of how zenos Very Definitely Killed Himself/His Body during the end of 4.3, i’m not sure where else there coulda been a bit of zenos lurking in this mortal plane in search of a body to snatch (see: through the maelstrom, the bodyhopping sahagin). so yeah, i think estinien was the most likely candidate for being bodysnatched by the soul or whatever of zenos (bold to assume zenos even HAS one a thems). and yeah, i know zenos!elf doesn’t have esty’s face, but i think that was primarily an out-of-universe choice, so that we’d read his scene as “omigawd this mystery elf must somehow be zenos!!” rather than “estinien, have you lost your GODDAMN mind?!”
finally:
getting possessed by a genocidal baddie AGAIN will cement beyond a shadow of a doubt estinien’s status as the ultimate kain expy. thus...

Road To Tokyo Dome Night 7 - 12/23/2020: Final KOPW2020 Crowned, Juice Injured, Will Miss WK15; Final Wrestle Kingdom 15 Cards; NJPW Statement on COVID-19 Protocols
Tumblr media
The final show on the New Japan Pro Wrestling calendar has taken place, and you can see it now on NJPWWorld. The last parting shots before WK15 were all over this card.
- 12/23/2020, Tokyo Korakuen Hall (NJPWWorld)
Tiger Mask IV, Ryusuke Taguchi & Master Wato d. Yota Tsuji, Yuya Uemura & Gabriel Kidd (Wato > Uemura, RPP, 9:14)
SANADA, Shingo Takagi & Hiromu Takahashi [Los Ingobernables] d. EVIL, Dick Togo & Taiji Ishimori [Bullet Club] (Takagi > Togo, Pumping Bomber, 8:36)
KOPW2020 Final - Bodyslam or Last Corner Pad Match: Toru Yano [CHAOS] © d. Bad Luck Fale [Bullet Club] (Bodyslam, 6:11) - Yano is the Final KOPW2020 Champion
KENTA & Jay White [Bullet Club] d. Satoshi Kojima & Toa Henare (White > Henare, Blade Runner, 13:08)
Will Ospreay, Great O-Khan & Jeff Cobb [The Empire] d. Kazuchika Okada [CHAOS], Hiroshi Tanahashi & Tomoaki Honma (Cobb > Honma, Tour Of The Islands, 14:08)
Kota Ibushi & SHO [CHAOS] d. Tetsuya Naito & BUSHI [Los Ingobernables] (SHO > BUSHI, Shock Arrow, 17:00)
Ibushi, Naito and Jay White cut one last final promo a piece to see out the year. Jay has the belts now. Really done with stolen belt gimmicks, if I’m honest. Tanahashi went bananas and attacked O-Khan with a chair. SANADA went bananas on EVIL. Yano managed to yoke up Fale to be the one and only KOPW2020 Champion. More below on what the future holds for that.
The fourth match was changed, as, right when his match v. KENTA at WK15 was made official (see below), Juice Robinson has been diagnosed with a fractured orbital bone, therefore missing today’s show, as well as missing WK15 now. Juice has had absolutely no luck at all in 2020. Satoshi Kojima laid out the challenge to KENTA to replace him in the match.
Who did not show up for a challenge? Jon Moxley.
Tumblr media
Prior to the show, chairman Naoki Sugabayashi held a press conference. This can also be seen on NJPWWorld. Among the highlights were Hiromu Takahashi giving statements both as himself, and El Phantasmo (the real one is in quarantine right now). Good stuff.
At one point, Sugabayashi made a statement that after 78 shows since the restart in June, with over 100,000 in attendance, there have been zero COVID-19 cases diagnosed coming from NJPW events. Which is great if true. Yes, this is wrestling we are talking about, and lying is the name of the game. At the same time, lying about COVID-19 cases is irresponsible at best, and I’m sure something Bushiroad does not want to deal with, is the fallout from getting caught lying about it.
Contrast this statement with the announcement of a 22-man KOPW2021 New Japan Ranbo, to happen as the opening match on Night 1. Yeah, hey, it’s great the Ranbo is back after being absent from Wrestle Kingdom cards for a few years. This match is not needed, especially in a pandemic, where NJPW have gone out of their way to limit the matches on cards, as well as the number of wrestlers participating. That locker room is now going to be crowded, and a possible vector for COVID-19 spread. This really is tempting fate.
The upshot to this, is the last 4 remaining in the Ranbo will then compete in a 4-way match to open Night 2, to determine the first provisional KOPW2021 champion. Yes, this title that isn’t a title is as convoluted as it is goofy.
Also added to the card is Ryusuke Taguchi & Master Wato attempting to take the IWGP Juniorheavyweight tag belts away from El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru, as part of Wato’s arc v. Suzuki-gun. KENTA’s match now is not even on the card, yet, although that may change. This whole IWGP US title situation is now a complete disaster. No Moxley, no Juice, not even a match on WK15.
The IWGP Juniorheavyweight title match between Taiji Ishimori v. either Hiromu or El Phantasmo has been bumped up to the semi-main of Night 2, which is rather nice, and I’m glad that’s happened.
Notable is the NEVER Openweight Comedy 6-Man Tag Team titles are not on defense on either night of this show. Maybe that will be a feature for New Year Dash!! on 1/6/2021, which will be a secret show.
Final cards for Wrestle Kingdom 15, although maybe Final in quotes, as “the card is subject to change.”
Wrestle Kingdom 15 - January 4, 2021, Tokyo Dome (NJPWWorld, FITE TV)
KOPW2021 New Japan Ranbo: TBA
Hiromu Takahashi [Los Ingobernables] v. El Phantasmo [Bullet Club]
IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship: Taichi & Zack Sabre Jr. [SZKG] © v. Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa [Bullet Club]
Hiroshi Tanahashi v. Great O-Khan [The Empire]
Kazuchika Okada [CHAOS] v. Will Ospreay [The Empire]
IWGP Heavyweight & IWGP Intercontinental Championships: Tetsuya Naito [Los Ingobernables] ©© v. Kota Ibushi
- January 5, 2021, Tokyo Dome (NJPWWorld, FITE TV)
STARDOM Offer Match: TBA (Untelevised Dark Match)
Provisional KOPW2021 4-Way Match: TBA
IWGP Juniorheavyweight Tag Team Championship: El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru [SZKG] (c) v. Ryusuke Taguchi & Master Wato
NEVER Openweight Championship: Shingo Takagi [Los Ingobernables] © v. Jeff Cobb [The Empire]
SANADA [Los Ingobernables] v. EVIL [Bullet Club]
IWGP Juniorheavyweight Championship: Taiji Ishimori [Bullet Club] © v. WINNER Hiromu v. Phantasmo
IWGP Heavyweight & IWGP Intercontinental Championships: WINNER Naito v. Ibushi ©© v. Jay White [Bullet Club]
No, these still are not the most compelling cards, outside the main events, but it is the best they could do in these pandemic times.
And with that, New Japan Pro Wrestling’s 2020 has come to an end. What a weird, strange, stressful year it’s been.
What’s next for this blog? Probably sporadic posts through the holiday season. I am looking to write a long-form post about idle speculation about the future of NJPW in 2021, however I am also looking to shop that around to other wrestling media so that may or may not appear here.
@damascenocs and I are planning to do our annual mega WK15 preview show, as well as our 5th anniversary, although that likely will not happen until after the Christmas holiday. On Christmas Day itself, NJPW Strong will feature a Best Of episode, that they will also put up for free on YouTube.
Thank you for sticking around in this year, despite months of no shows or news. I hope you all have a SAFE and as happy a holiday period as you can, regardless of what, or if, you celebrate. Take care of yourselves.

Blood in the dust: The plight of South African farmers is far from black or white
By Jewel Topsfield, The Age, 23 June 2018
In the first week of June two farms were attacked in the South African province of Free State. The modus operandi was more or less the same. Armed intruders tied up the victims and stole guns, cash, mobile phones--whatever they could get their hands on--and then fled in the farm vehicles
Attacks on farms, which are particularly vulnerable due to their isolation, are the nightmarish reality for those living and working on the land in South Africa, which is tormented by a level of heinous crime Australians struggle to comprehend.
Dan Kriek, the president of AgriSA, the largest representative body of commercial farmers in South Africa, condemns both attacks “in the strongest possible terms”.
But there is a difference between the two that troubles him.
One of the attacks, on a white farmer and his wife, was reported in the media. But the other attack--where the victims were two black farmers--received no coverage.
“The point I am trying to make is the media is not reporting the true state of affairs--farm attacks and farm murders are shared by all racial groups in this country,” Kriek says.
He believes the media portrayal of the farm murders as an onslaught on white farmers does nothing to help social cohesion in a country still haunted by apartheid.
“The whole narrative, the fact black farmers and farm workers get attacked and murdered, gets lost in the whole conversation. How do we--in a country with our history--then convince the whole of society this is a problem we all need to address?”
Kriek, a mild-mannered white farmer with a prize cattle stud near the town of Tweeling in the Free State, is at the epicentre of an emotive debate around race, rural violence and land reform that is roiling South Africa.
There are few more affected than Kriek--as AgriSA president and a farmer he knows many of the victims of farm attacks.
Far-right extremists, both in South Africa and other countries including Australia, claim white South African farmers are facing a genocide.
Most people don’t accept the hyperbolic claims of a white genocide--it is difficult to equate South Africa with Rwanda or Nazi Germany.
But there is a concern among white farmers (large-scale commercial farms are almost all white-owned) that they are being deliberately targeted.
They are alarmed by farm attacks and murders--in some cases involving gruesome torture--and land reform aimed at addressing racial disparities in land ownership.
“From the farmers’ perspective the political landscape has recently become more hostile, largely as a result of calls by political leaders for more radical land reform,” says Dr Johan Burger from the Institute for Security Studies.
“They point to statements by various political leaders such as those accusing white farmers of having stolen the land and calling for the expropriation of land without compensation.”
The vexed questions of whether white farmers are killed at a higher rate than the rest of the population and whether attacks are a normal part of crime or fuelled by racial animosity are the source of much conjecture in South Africa.
In 2015 the South African Human Rights Commission said most evidence presented to it suggested the criminal element but it did not dispute some farm attacks and murders were motivated by hate or racial hostility.
This debate will be reignited at the end of June when Ernst Roets, the deputy CEO of Afrikaner-rights group AfriForum, launches a book, Kill the Boer, warning a “looming process of ethnic cleansing should be regarded as a serious threat”.
The narrative of a white persecution has gained considerable traction in Australia, where about 163,000 (mostly white) South African-born people now live.
Earlier this year Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton caused a diplomatic furore when he said Australia had “the potential to help some of these people that are being persecuted”.
His comments followed a spate of headlines in Australia including “South Africa’s white farmers attacked, raped and forced from land”, “Whites persecuted, but who cares?” and “White minority ‘targeted’ in South Africa”.
Dutton said these people “need help from a civilised country like ours”.
Dutton has never specifically referred to white farmers. However his comments caused uproar in South Africa.
“Oz minister who wants white SA farmers has history of racist rants,” screamed one headline.
“I was pissed off,” says South African Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom.
“It was reckless, irresponsible and it was just pandering to a right wing group. I think there was a lot of concern about this statement.”
A spokeswoman for Dutton said Australia’s program “doesn’t discriminate on any basis. The minister has never suggested otherwise and therefore I would discount ill informed comment.”
It’s a miracle Johnny Muller is even alive, let alone that he can still see and doesn’t have brain damage.
Muller, a dairy farmer from a property near the town of Frankfort in the Free State, was shot while struggling with an intruder during a farm attack on September 24 last year.
He shows us the scars; the bullet entered above his right eye and came out on the left side of his neck. It dodged an artery.
Someone told the family the barrel of the gun must have been almost touching his head or it would have blown out a bigger hole. “We didn’t google that,” Johnny’s wife Dalene says drily.
The Mullers believe the motive for the attack was theft: ‘I don’t think all farm attacks are for money reasons, I think some are just to hurt and injure people, but in our case they really wanted money,” Dalene says.
Somehow she managed to press a panic button. The intruders escaped in the Muller’s bakkie (small truck) when they heard the alarm.
“I closed the door and I told the children: ‘Daddy has been shot. We don’t know if he is dead or alive, probably dead, but we cannot go out there.”
It’s hard to imagine the agonising wait for help in the Muller’s cheerful kitchen, with its fruit salad tablecloth, and multi-coloured sign that says “Many people have eaten here & survived”. (The sign, Johnny says, smiling, was there before the attack.)
Dalene says although the farm attacks are a problem, they are not the only people suffering in South Africa.
“There are a lot of people being hijacked, there are a lot of people being attacked in their houses, even in the cities.”
The family never considered not coming back to the farm. “This is where we live. We decided we are not going to let some barbarians ruin our lives.”
Do they think many other South Africans farmers would be interested in coming to Australia? “I think there would be some. In this area I don’t think there would be many,” Dalene says.
Earlier this year Tony Abbott claimed that “something like 400 white farmers have been brutally murdered over the last 12 months”.
However South African police say there were 47 farm murders and 561 farm attacks in 2017-18 (they do not identify the race of the victims or their occupations). The highest recorded number of farm murders was in 1997-98 when there were 153.
AfriForum disputes the police figures and says the real toll is higher. It says there were 84 farm murders last calendar year.
AgriSA, which represents about 28,000 farmers, says an increase in farm attacks during the past two financial years is in line with national crime statistics.
The spectre of violence is everywhere in South Africa. A guard with an automatic gun stands outside Wimpy, a fast food chain in a suburban Johannesburg shopping mall. A metre away a child eats his hamburger.
Middle-class houses hide behind towering walls, topped with electric fences and coiled barbed wire. Signs warn of armed security.
Our car windscreen is cracked from an earlier “smash and grab”--a brick through the window at a robot, which is what South Africans call traffic lights, followed by “give me your cell phone or I’ll shoot you”.
The life of almost every South African I meet has been scarred by violence. They tell horrifying stories of brutal home invasions, carjackings and murders with the same tone of sad resignation Australians use to talk about cancer.
In 2016-17 there were more than 19,000 murders in South Africa--an average of 52 every day. Most victims were young black men.
The division of wealth is stark. Just a few kilometres from Johannesburg’s affluent financial hub of Sandton, where tourists pose under a gigantic statue of Nelson Mandela and then have a glass of Chenin Blanc, is the township of Alexandra.
One of the poorest urban areas in South Africa, the township, its population almost entirely black, is crammed with corrugated iron shacks. Most don’t have running water so the people use communal pumps and outdoor toilets.
The World Bank says South Africa is one of the most unequal countries in the world, with its poverty “a demonstration of the enduring legacy of apartheid”.
When Mandela campaigned ahead of South Africa’s first multiracial elections in 1994, his slogan promised: “A better life for all”.
But democracy has not ended all white privilege.
Almost 25 years after the end of apartheid, two thirds of agricultural land is still in the hands of the white minority. Less than 9 percent of South Africans are white.
The African National Congress failed to achieve its target of a 30 per cent transfer of farmland to blacks by 2014. In December it adopted a policy position that land should be expropriated without compensation to accelerate reform.
The government insists there will be no “smash and grab interventions”, referring to the violent land grabs that occurred in Zimbabwe under Robert Mugabe, and the economy and food security will not be adversely affected.
Farmers have been assured productive agricultural land will not be taken.
Land expropriation without compensation would only occur in limited situations, such as where land was sitting idle for speculation. Cases would be tested in the Constitutional Court.
But still there is uncertainty and fear.
This is exacerbated by militant populist politician Julius Malema, who has urged blacks to occupy white-owned land. He says he is not calling for whites to be killed ... “for now”.
Malema, then a member of the ANC, also caused an outcry in 2010 when he sang the apartheid-era song Shoot the Boer, Shoot the Farmer, which a High Court judge ruled constituted hate speech.
Malema was later expelled from the ANC and formed the radical ultra-left Economic Freedom Fighters party, which commands just 6 per cent of the vote, but his inflammatory comments have alarmed white farmers.
“Politicians say ‘Kill the farmer, kill the farmer’ so they get it in their heads,” Johnny Muller says.
In 1998 Nelson Mandela said the government deplored the “cold-blooded killings on farms”.
Farm attacks were made a national security priority alongside other special crimes such as gang violence, cash in transit robberies and taxi violence.
But AfriForum is concerned the government has since de-prioritised it as a crime, including abolishing the commando system, a voluntary part-time force of the South African Army that assisted police.
AfriForum claims farmers are three to four times more likely to be killed than the average South African and the significance of racial and political motives is underplayed.
Despite the backlash from South Africa, Dutton has said he will “not step back” from the necessity of providing support to people who face persecution.
Somewhat ironically, given its advocacy promoting the plight of South African farmers overseas, AfriForum is not especially enthusiastic about Australia’s offer to take farmers.
“We were very grateful that there is recognition of the problem, that there is acknowledgement outside of South Africa that there is a problem in South Africa,” Roets says.
“But we know that exporting people would not solve the problem, at least not the collective problem. We would want to fix the problem here.”

There's not much you can do about GPU-based crypto mining
I wanted to respond to /u/jaykresge's post about crypto mining and its impact on the PC gaming space in a way that was more visible than a comment on his post. Yes, this means I'm trying to get more attention this way, but I think the dialog is necessary to educate people about things as they stand currently.
Here's a summary of /u/jaykresge's cliff's notes:
Mining gets harder over time
PC Gamers joining the market could trigger a rise in difficulty
Professional miners benefit from misinformation
Casual mining could help pay for upgrades/gives you extra pocket money/could hurt the mining market in general
No flood of current-gen cards around the corner
TL:DR; Join the flood, and get used to the idea of back-ordering or pre-ordering your GPUs and other components so that you can lock their price in. That's the only way the market is going to be able to address the needs of miners and gamers at the same time.
Now, to the key points:
Mining gets harder over time
PC Gamers joining the market could trigger a rise in difficulty
The idea proposed is that gamers sign up for something like Nicehash, or any other one-click solution, and begin to mine with your GPU, increasing the difficulty to mine that algorithm, potentially decreasing the profits of the mining operations you wish to bring down.
This idea is admirable. But it wouldn't work. In fact, it only makes it worse.
Mining today is done in pools, where people pool their mining power together into a single addressable unit to crack open new blocks first before others. Solo miners with small farms almost never achieve profitability because these pools find and mine so many new blocks of coins before you ever get a chance to find even one.
The faster a pool gains hashing power, the faster it can find new blocks and mine coins before anyone else. NiceHash may have, maybe, a few million users. Let's say it's less than three million globally. They were already the most popular setup option among casual miners with less than three rigs. What happens when you add seven million new GPUs into the mix? Well, NiceHash eclipses the hashing power of Nanopool and other contenders, and finds new blocks and coins faster than anyone. Payouts increase, payout rates shorten in time, and the other groups begin to lose users in their pool because NiceHash's pool is more profitable at that point.
The end result? You only make the situation worse by making NiceHash insanely rich, and increasing their hashing power immensely. You successfully triggered a rise in difficulty for operations like Genesis Mining and other solo miners with large farms, but by joining a handful of pools, you immediately increase the profitability of those pools.
Get enough Redditors together in a large enough pool to cause an upswing in difficulty, and you've just created a new pool that mines better than anyone else.
You've lived long enough to see yourself become the villain.
Professional miners benefit from misinformation
This isn't the case for the majority of the mining community, and if you run into this it's only because you're hearing it from misinformed miners.
The miners that encourage people into the community ultimately stand to gain from their involvement - here's one more person who'll end up buying BTC, or buying into the Altcoin you're into, or mining in your pool, or increasing business for the companies that sell all the critical components to the miners.
AMD and NVIDIA see someone who'll buy their GPUs and will pay higher than MSRP prices for their products. Anyson, HEC, or SuperFlower see people who'll pay top-dollar for platinum-rated products straight from the factory floor. Case manufacturers see people who might want custom mounting solutions for their setups. Samsung, Micron, and Hynix see a market that is hungry for faster memory.
Hell, ASUS, Biostar, and ASRock all made custom mining-specific motherboards for up to nineteen GPUs in one system. They made those boards because it is profitable for them to do so. They're selling out on every one that they make.
Misinformation does an incredible disservice to the industry. People that I know that do this for a living are always encouraging others to look into it, but they always encourage the use of caution and common sense.
This is magical internet money after all.
Casual mining could help pay for upgrades/gives you extra pocket money/could hurt the mining market in general
See above, really. This is what drives profitability for mining pools and what drives the ability for Altcoins like Ethereum to see a four-fold increase in value. People are casually jumping on to the bandwagon, mining in their spare time with their PC idle so that they can see something out of it. This is how some people are rationalising the purchase of a GeForce GTX Titan XP, or a GTX 1070 Ti, or a Radeon RX Vega 56. Mining could help offset costs so that it means they're less out of pocket at the end of the day.
Casual mining helps the market, it doesn't hurt it.
But what you're doing here, /u/jaykresge:
my GPU alone could make me ~$60-$75/mo in profit at current rates. Think of how many months/years you go between upgrades. Now, do the math. Needless to say, I'm now regretting not going bigger up front
Bottom line, it's easier now than it ever was before. As I told someone else, "Once I finally started, I wanted to kick my own ass for waiting so long."
...is throwing fuel on the fire. You're encouraging people to buy a more expensive card on the mere speculation that they'd be able to pay off some of that cost, or even the entire cost of the card, over the course of ownership. If more people did this, we'd trigger a constant, never-ending cycle of shortages.
"Buy a GTX 1080, because you can mine when you're not playing or working and earn some of that money back."
It may be the case now that this is possible, but you're encouraging people to overspend on the assumption that they'll be able to earn their money back in cryptocoins. This could be construed as irresponsible advice.
Finally,
Used GPUs will enter the market when they are no longer profitable for mining, and not before. Dedicated miners have lots of room for expansion. When Volta comes out, they're not selling their Pascal GPUs. They're building new Volta mining rigs alongside the Pascal ones, making money off each of them.
Given that we've had a little over five years of shortages up to now, and only one major crash where used cards flooded the market, the likelihood of this happening is quite low. Look around you in the classifieds sections: cards that are currently very profitable are being snapped up quickly, while miners are also targeting older cards that are still valuable, like first-gen GCN and Maxwell cards.
As soon as a Radeon HD 7970 goes up for sale in my corner of the world, it's picked up by a miner. Same goes for R9 380 cards, GTX 970s, GTX 980 Tis and even bog-standard RX 460s. The lack of cards at decent prices has pushed the miners who got into the game late to look at older cards and weaker options that still ROI in a reasonable amount of time, and even a RX 550 4GB pays itself off in seven months at current profitability.
In a nutshell:
Miners hate the shortages that they create as much as you do. They don't like that there aren't enough cards, they don't like that there are some miners that can buy at the factory floor, and most of them realise the impact they're creating on both the environment and the gaming industry. No-one is blind to this.
Until NVDIA and AMD work with TSMC, Samung, and Global Foundries to increase their production and sell more cards, this is the reality that we're stuck with for now. No-one wants to overextend themselves and possibly end up losing money, because currently they're selling every card they can make and they're not meeting demand, not by a long shot.
It's better that way for their books and their planning, and we might even see NVIDIA increase their MSRPs for the first time in years to respond to the mining craze.
It sucks. There's nothing we can do about it. The horse has already bolted, and there's nothing short of a worldwide ban on crypto that would kill it.
Join 'em, don't try beat 'em.

Born with the Moon in Sagittarius, you are likely to be innately optimistic, expansive and positive in your point of view. Sagittarius is a Fire sign, and so accentuates the passionate, idealistic and creative dimensions of life. Sagittarius is also mutable in action, which means you are likely to have an innate need for variety and change. When passion and variety combine, there is often a deep calling for freedom. Because the Moon describes your natural response to things, or where you feel at home, you are likely to feel most comfortable roaming free – exploring your world and expanding horizons wherever possible. This expansion can happen in numerous ways. On the one hand, this lunar position implies a love of travel, and fascination with foreign places. You may be something of a “gypsy” at heart, with a powerful longing to explore the world and move around. You may find you travel a lot, or seek work and situations that allow you contact with foreign places and cultures. Even if circumstances do not allow, you are likely to wish that they would, and can easily imagine yourself making your home anywhere in the world. Dreaming of far-off places helps you engage with your need to be free. Anything that brings you contact with exotic people and situations will warm your heart. You would rather dine at a distant Mongolian restaurant than spend yet another Friday night at the local bistro. Feeling free to experience other cultures satisfies deep emotional needs. This urge for freedom is very strong, and can make you restless at times. You dislike the feeling of being stuck in any place for too long, and will need variety with your environment. You may decorate your home in an eclectic way, or surround yourself with objects that remind you of places you would like to be. When life becomes too routine, it can easily seem lifeless and dull. Therefore, it is important that you freshen up your perspective from time to time by getting out to places that you have not been before. Another way for you to broaden horizons is through study or learning. This sign relates to the search for truth, and ultimately pursuit of wisdom. You are likely to find you have a need to feel that you are always learning or discovering something new. You may be an eternal student, or spend much of your time with recreational pursuits that have an educational bent as well. You can feel that your world is expanding through the knowledge that you acquire, and even if this just means you are a student of life, you are likely to find that knowledge opens your horizons and helps you feel free. Sagittarius is also the sign of the teacher, as well as the preacher. The need to seek truth and wisdom can also translate into a love of sharing that with others. You may have natural gifts for inspiring others to be the best that they can be. You may be very good at explaining different points of view, and may find that others are drawn to you for the breadth of experience you can share. Your greatest gift is your ability to give others the same freedom you require to find your own truth. When you let them explore different ideas and work out what is true for them, you allow them to expand their awareness. You are likely to make a good teacher, trainer or mentor based on your ability to inspire and educate. On the flip side, you may also tend to become so consumed with what you believe to be true that you end of preaching to others in order to convert them to your point of view. You may need to consider whether you have a need to be right, and a tendency to broadcast your belief systems as if they were the only possible option for others to choose. Because this placement implies a strong attachment to the search for truth, there may be a tendency toward believing that what you have discovered as true for yourself should be the truth for everyone else. And so, you may have a tendency toward being bombastic that should be kept in check. When pushed by an emotional undercurrent, you may “share” from a biased point of view, based on trying to prove your version of “reality” and bring others to agree with your point of view. Recognizing that there are many paths which can lead to the same centre is useful, and necessary when agitated by the circumstances that surround you. That said, you are much more likely to be optimistic, positive and sunny in your disposition, with a tendency to live and let live. Sagittarius is a sign of broad-mindedness and you are likely to possess a philosophical approach to life. As a rule, Sagittarian types are more concerned with the big picture than with attention to detail, and unless other factors are present, you may need to watch out for any tendency to brush over the fine print, and get yourself into trouble through an over-reliance on faith as opposed to reason. All in all however, your happy and optimistic disposition should be one of your greatest assets, and help you to rise time and again from any of life’s setbacks. Finally you may also seek to broaden horizons through testing the limits of life itself. Sagittarius is associated with a love of challenge. You may have a need to test the limits of what is possible for you in quite immediate or physical ways. You can instinctively rise to any challenge that is before you, enjoying the feeling of conquest that comes from doing something you couldn’t do before. Here, you can combine your natural positivity with an actual task to focus on, so relishing the new insights that come through learning to go beyond where you’ve been before. Your nature means you are likely to be very enthusiastic, and can draw upon a natural flow of insight and intuition in order to solve the problems that present themselves to you. You may enjoy extreme sports, difficult forms of physical activity or just long sessions at the gym. Finding ways to challenge and push boundaries is a great source of emotional satisfaction, providing you with the reassurance that anything just may be possible for you!

❤️ Virgo Moon (♍︎☽) + Taurus Moon (♉︎☽) :
Virgo Moon and Taurus Moon are extremely compatible. They have a great deal of respect and understanding for each other. Taurus is stable and pragmatic; Virgo is practical and attends to detail. They are made for each other. Both partners are cautious and approach new things slowly. They both enjoy working with nature and natural materials. Both are concerned about how change will affect them.Their differences lie in how they react. While Taurus Moon will forge ahead once they commit to an idea, Virgo Moon will constantly second guess and criticize their choice. The worrying done by Virgo will be comforted by Taurus’ steadiness and emotional stability. Taurus, in turn, helps Virgo to relax and become more instinctual. Virgo Moon may become annoyed with the lackadaisical way that Taurus Moon leaves things all over the house. Overall, however, this is a happy and content pairing. They meet each others’ needs for intimacy and pleasant company. They will be most content in the country or if they are able to grow a garden or at least go camping frequently. They have a need to interact with nature in some way. This pairing should do very well with minimal effort.
❤️ Virgo Moon (♍︎☽) + Capricorn Moon (♑︎☽):
Virgo Moon and Capricorn Moon are the best of friends the moment they meet. They can’t believe their luck in finding someone who shares so many things in common. They are highly compatible, and this relationship should work out well for all concerned. Both Virgo Moon and Capricorn Moon are organized and practical. They both work hard and want to be useful. Both are willing to forego their own desires and feelings in lieu of responsibilities. They are self-disciplined and meticulous. They are faithful, constant and don’t like risks. They will happily tread the safe, logical path to financial security. Together they can have a very powerful connection. Others may view them as boring, but they feel secure and happy. They need to make sure they don’t expect too much of themselves. With their self-critical tendencies, they can undermine their own work. They do need to be wary of overwork. All work and no play will make even Virgo Moon and Capricorn Moon dull. If they can learn to relax and enjoy themselves as well as maintain their responsibilities, they will be extremely happy.

With the Moon in the practical and systematic sign of Virgo, you are likely to be someone who is highly appreciative of structure, organization and detail. You will find your life works better with well-established systems in your personal and professional life. Virgo is an Earth sign, and so pertains to tangible or physical things. It is also known as a Mutable sign, which infers a need for variety and change. When practicality and change are brought together, the principle of refinement is found. Born with the Moon in Virgo, you are likely to have an innate need to improve or refine the circumstances around you – combining practical know-how with the analytical quality necessary to achieve specific results. Virgo is a sign of service. You are likely to find you have an innate need to nurture yourself and others through offering practical service in everyday ways. Virgo is also a sign of humility. You may be quite happy working behind the scenes, adding your considerable talent for organization to whatever you are involved in and happy to be of service, often asking nothing in return. The satisfaction of a job well-conceived, well-planned and well-done often provides the result you need. You should take care, however, not to allow this natural instinct for service to be manipulated, or taken advantage of by others. Ancient astrologers saw a relationship between the sign of Virgo and the condition of slavery. It is important that your need to be useful does not turn into the need to be someone else’s “pack-horse”. The Moon refers to how we need to be nurtured. You will find a tendency to feel safe or secure through knowing that things are tidy, structured and planned. Routine is your friend, and establishing well-ordered routines in your daily life will help you think more clearly. Virgo is associated with process and purification at both material and mental levels. You are likely to be emotionally affected by how well your daily systems are functioning and how ‘pure’ life conditions are. At a simple level, you are likely to feel awkward and uncomfortable in chaotic environments. You will feel more serene and so focussed in an organized space. At a more subtle level, you can be emotionally affected by food additives, pollutants and synthetics in your environment. This is not to say that you are ‘precious’ or need to be wrapped in cotton wool. It is just that you will feel impurities more acutelythan others. Above all else, you need a calm, peaceful and well ordered environment to access your astute thinking processes. You are nurtured by organization and structure. You assimilate information better when processes are clear, and sources of nourishment relatively clean. This is a sign of mental discrimination. You may have innate talents for editing or discernment, able to describe other people’s traits, dispositions and downfalls. Thus you may have strong writing abilities, or work well in fields involving communication, personal service and customer relations. You are likely to have a keen mind, and a great eye for detail. This can be turned to its’ full advantage by seeking occupations that allow you to capitalize on your ability to spot the ‘bottom line’. You are likely to be very good at extracting the essence from something otherwise complicated. You have the ability to sort the wheat from the chaff, and find what is essential in a sentence, task list or schedule. Because of your strong analytical ability,  you may need to make sure that you watch your tendency to be overly critical, finding fault with yourself and others rather than working toward improving whatever situation you are in. Your capacity for analysis is great for problem-solving, but can also be your downfall.  You are likely to be highly adaptable, but also prone to excessive worry. You can easily fall victim to nervous tension by constantly finding faults or remaining in chaotic environments that go against your instinctual needs. It is important that you learn to take time out when needed, and find ways to remedy the effects of too much nervous tension. Meditation, yoga, martial arts and other forms of mind-body exercise can be especially beneficial. This will greatly assist you to stay focussed and calm.Often, those with the Moon here can be quietly critical of self and others. Your tendency to criticize your own efforts may make it difficult for you to see your own true worth. You may underestimate your contributions and be innately convinced that whatever you do, it is not good enough. This can be a humble and shy position for the Moon. Unless other factors in your chart offer more outgoing tendencies, you may fail to receive credit for all that you have achieved. It is important that you learn to recognize how useful you are. Next time you are concerned that you have not ‘done enough’ simply ask yourself if you have improved the situation you are in. Rather than striving to be perfect, you will find that striving to make things better satisfies your need to be useful, and helps you take unrealistic expectations off yourself. On another level, Virgo is associated with the body and health. Thus, you may have an instinctual interest in matters of health, diet and nutrition. You may be naturally quite healthy simply because you have an interest in your own wellbeing, and notice that life flows better for you with regular exercise and good eating habits. It is very important that you to pay close attention to what you do, and do not, eat. Often, those with the Moon here have very delicate digestive and nervous systems. You are likely to find that you may have trouble with your stomach or nerves if you lose touch with your own bodily needs. Excess worry or problems with digestion may plague you if you do not pay attention to what you ingest. Taking in pure food (as well as experiences) is a very practical thing for you. You can be adversely affected by processed foods, and overcome with anxiety if exposed to harsh or critical people. Making sure you improve the systems that regulate your own personal life is essential for you. Through good food, routine and regular exercise you can enjoy extraordinarily good health This interest in health is often quite strong. You may have natural abilities in any area to do withhealth, nutrition and healing, especially in the area of natural therapies, herbs and pharmacology. Often those with the Moon here are drawn to service roles such as nursing and community work. Finding ways to be useful is important. Any activity that lets you combine your innate practicality, fine mind, and willingness to help can work well for you, leading to beneficial outcomes for all concerned. Individuals with the moon in Virgo are usually simple in nature and prefer to live a quiet life without the glare of public eye. They look for small things in their life to seek happiness and contentment. It is the small and insignificant matters in life like plucking flowers from a garden that give them real happiness. It is in their basic nature to not only take care of themselves, but to take care of others as well. Thus, such individuals are of extremely helpful nature and will be first to lend a helping hand to those in distress. These individuals love to have a routine in their life. They cannot do without a routine and if it is missing in their lives, they tend to feel that something is amiss in their life and they are not in their true elements due to it. They tend to act in a fussy manner and are often labelled as complainers as they cannot function properly without having a routine in their life. Due to such characteristics, they love to take on such jobs or tasks in which lot of detailing is required or which has a great scope for micromanagement of things and situations. Such individuals are always averse to public displays of affection and most of the times get repulsed because of that. Such individuals tend to be shy in meeting up new people. However, once they get to know them and gradually open up, they are in their own elements and strike a good rapport with them. Additionally, they are born sceptics in nature and tend to be over critical of themselves as well.

Born with the Moon in Capricorn, you are likely to be innately responsible, pragmatic and measured in the ways that you respond. Capricorn is an Earth sign, and so pertains to the tangible and practical dimensions of life. It is also known as a Cardinal sign, which implies a need to take action. When practicality and activity combine, the urge to master material resources is usually present. With the Moon in Capricorn, you are likely to have an innately serious and responsible nature, seeking to make the most of whatever resources you have at your disposal. Responsibility, and all this entails, will probably form a background theme in your life. You may have had to step into a position of responsibility early in life, or received strong impressions from your parents (most usually mother) about the need to live up to certain expectations in life. You may feel a deep sense of duty around supporting others, and will naturally be drawn to areas of life expression which allow you to demonstrate a capacity to accept responsibility. You are likely to have the ability to assist and nurture others in practical ways, and will often be seen as “the capable one” who can be relied on to find realistic solutions to current problems. The Moon is said to be in “detriment” in this sign, implying that easy and spontaneous emotional connections are not your forte. You are likely to be self-conscious in your emotional approach, and may appear reserved at first, taking time to warm to others and develop closeness. While you may have a huge heart, you do not give it away easily. You need time to get to know others and work out how you really feel about them. It is important to understand how serious or worthwhile any emotional involvement may be before you get involved. Whilst to others this may seem calculating, for you it is just a realistic assessment of the fact that emotional ties can be burdensome, and taking yourself seriously involves assessing exactly where a situation is taking you, and if that is where you want to be. Yet this pragmatism can also be a source of strength. It can give you stability and create a realistic attitude to life’s emotional ebbs and flows. On the up side, this means that for those you hold near and dear, you will be consistent, strong and true. You have an innate ability to follow through on what you say, and are likely to value greatly the worth of family, continuity and emotional commitment. On the down side however, your pragmatic approach to feelings and relationships may lead to a tendency for projecting to others a cold and unavailable nature, concerned more with the bottom line of what you will ‘get’ from a connection, rather than just being able to enjoy closeness and intimacy for what it is. The sign of Capricorn relates to foundations, structures and the gift of Time. You are likely to value tradition, status, and social position. You will require from others the same level of responsibility and capacity that you demonstrate for yourself, and will respect people or situations that demonstrate longevity and persistence. On some level, you are likely to feel most secure when you have solid structures and foundations around you. To this end you may be somewhat conservative, with strong ambitions for yourself based on recognition and accomplishment. Achievements carry powerful emotional overtones for you, and you are likely to feel an inward need to live up to being the best that you can be. You may have a need to prove yourself ‘out there’ in the world as a concrete example of your inner values, so reflecting an aptitude for responsibility and commitment. Alternately, you may have a much more private idea of what success and accomplishment mean to you. You may be less concerned with worldly success and more concerned with doing the best you can on a more personal level. You may set high standards for personal development, with a profound sense of integrity and authenticity. Whether your focus is material or spiritual, you are likely to be committed to making sure that you achieve the things that you expect of yourself. If other features of your chart imply more freedom-loving or unconventional qualities, you may be at odds with other voices within your psyche. If you find yourself struggling between the need to fulfill obligations and the need to be free just remember that your innate capacity to commit and demonstrate responsibility can be expressed in many different ways. As long as you live up to your own expectations in terms of what responsibility means to you, you will feel emotionally stable and secure. From this stable base, you can spin off into any form of expression you so choose. You are likely to be highly self-sufficient and contained, but need to remember that sometimes we build strong emotional foundations by sharing our strengths and weaknesses, talents short-comings and abilities with those around us. You are no doubt very capable, but need to be mindful of a tendency to isolate yourself upon your own mountaintop of duty and responsibility. You may have an innate tendency to expect that no one else will be as thorough as you are, and so take on far more than you need to, at times even taking from others duties that are rightfully theirs. Try not to look down upon “mere mortals’ less capable than you, but realize that your strengths and capabilities have been earned through hard work and sacrifice, yet only count for something if you can share them with someone else. In sharing responsibilities, you will achieve the position of respect and responsibility that you so naturally deserve. In letting others demonstrate capability and endurance, you help build a fertile platform upon which material stability is achievedWith the Moon placed here, you are likely to be innately concerned with how you appear publicly. You tend to be aware of the value of reputation and protocol, and so, will avoid doing anything publicly that may diminish you in the eyes of others. Because you recognize the value of a good reputation, you will strive to appear capable, contained and in-charge. Whilst this is useful in terms of earning respect, it may mean that you avoid extending yourself at times because you will not let yourself learn. You can set such high standards of achievement for yourself that you expect to be able to master whatever you attempt almost as soon as you begin. Rather than learning through a process of trial and error, you will stop yourself doing things unless you are already innately competent. It is important that you recognize the need for learning or apprenticeship along the road to mastery. Showing others your vulnerabilities will not hurt you as much as you may fear, and can in fact help them appreciate your achievements more through seeing your commitment to high standards through hard work. Finally, there may also be a need to release old, crystallized emotional patterns or unconscious fears through subconscious re-programming. Because the Moon represents the genetic or emotional framework through which we view experiences and learn about the world, there may be a tendency to ‘get stuck’ when that frame is inclined to endure and ‘hold-on’. In this sense, unconscious fears, limitations and restrictions may prevent you from opening up to an easy, spontaneous flow of emotion. Old habits and memories can prevent you from connecting with the here and now. There may be inhibitions around revealing the true extent of your feelings, and you may keep others at a distance so they never know how much you really need them. Developing empathy, the ability to self-nurture and kindness for yourself are highly recommended, This will help dissolve any old and unwanted emotional patterns, and open the door for greater vulnerability and closeness with others. You may find tactile or emotional therapies useful for you if find this hard to achieve. Because you are used to demonstrating fortitude and resilience, you may find it hard to soften and let others in. But when you share your capacity to accept responsibility and build solid foundations in life, you are rewarded with full appreciation from those who can understand the depth of your emotional commitment.

Born with the Moon in the lively, communication-oriented sign of Gemini, you are likely to be a curious individual, with an active, versatile mind. Gemini is an Air sign, governing communication, the exchange of information or ideas, and the protocols with which social organization occurs. Accordingly, you may find that you have an innate need to know as much as possible about the world around you, and may have a talent for numbers, speech or the written word. Gemini is also a Mutable sign, implying the need for variety and change. You are likely to find that you are easily engaged in new things, seek stimulation and may become easily bored. You are likely to be very adaptable, and love anything new. You may be an instinctive multi-tasker, and may habitually involve yourself in many tasks at the same time. Your need for variety means you are better when doing several things at once, but need to avoid scattering your mental energies so that very little actually gets done.  The essence of this sign is communication. Unless other factors in your birth chart dominate, you are likely to enjoy sharing information with others, and may be very talkative. You may find yourself involved with lots of different people, flitting from group to group, situation to situation, in order to exchange information and ideas. Information is the foundation of your emotional wellbeing. You are likely to feel at your best when actively engaged in learning something new. For you, information is paramount, and you may not need to study something in depth to feel that you know enough about it. As long as you have glimpsed the basis of an idea or opinion, you may then feel satisfied to move on. Like the literal social butterfly, you may find yourself moving from person to person, gathering data, ideas information or facts before moving on to share what you have gained. You need to know about what is going on around you, and will enjoy imparting to others the information they may need to get through the day. Sometimes, this love of information can extend to gossip. You may have a weakness for scandals, trivia and trashy magazines! You like to know what is happening in other peoples lives. This works well for you when your love of knowledge stimulates good conversation and an interest in the world around you. When taken to extremes, a love of gossip can work against you. You may find that you inadvertently develop a reputation for being fickle, two-faced or unreliable. Others may know you cannot be trusted to keep a secret, and so will exclude you from the true details of their personal lives. Or you may attract to yourself persons who thrive on discussing the misfortunes of others. This can create a negative backlash that will ultimately bring you undone. Discretion is an important trait to develop when born with the Moon in this sign. Because you are interested in everything does not mean you have the right to spread it around! This is a very inquisitive position for the Moon. In many ways, you experience a sense of personal worth by connecting to other people, talking to them about their problems and concerns, and finding out what makes them tick. You are less likely to be concerned with deep emotional intricacies as you are with the peculiarities of their life circumstances or perspectives. Once you have ascertained where someone is coming from and why, you are likely to then feel compelled to move on to someone else, having satisfied your need to exchange information, so entering another “data file” into your catalogue of human experiences. Your interest in others is indeed genuine. You may just find you have an almost unquenchable need to know more. In essence, you will need to find a balance between your need for information, and your ability to connect with others on more than superficial terms. As the Moon is also concerned with nurturing, you may have a special ability to make others feel good with what you say. Because you know how to nurture with words, you may know the right thing to say at just the right moment to get others feeling light and bright again. Gemini is a sign known for humour and entertainment. You may instinctively know how to keep things fun. Talking around the surface of things stop them getting heavy. You are likely to have an uncanny ability to turn the conversation around when needed to the brighter side of life. You are probably very good at defining emotions. You have the ability to categorize experiences based on objective fact, but may be less comfortable actually feeling what is happening. In this sense, you may attempt to avoid deep emotional experiences, feeling more certain of yourself with rational or logical discussion where you can analyze a certain situation, classify it, and move on. In time, you will need to learn to deepen your emotional experiences, so that you can learn why certain emotions occur. Rather than detaching from emotional involvement, you may find that experiencing emotion, then adding logic, helps broaden your social repertoire. As the Moon rules the instincts, you may have instinctual talents with words and numbers. You may be good at keeping score, at accounting, or any form of commerce. You may also have a love for trade, enjoying the hustle and bustle that goes along with bartering and retail. You may have a love of gadgets, and be drawn to anything bright, shiny and new. You may be an instinctive flirt, and love flitting from one admirer to the next. This Moon position is often associated with those whose main concern is with the external world, exchanging facts, ideas and commodities without getting too consumed by the deeper, or more mysterious, dimensions of life. This is fine, as long as it does not preclude you from acknowledging that you are also an emotional being, with passionate needs that also need expression. Then your love of logic can be balanced with a well-rounded interpersonal life. At its best, Gemini is a lively and versatile sign. Born with the Moon here, you are likely to have a quick and adaptable mind. Your interest in whatever is happening around you means that you will feel an ever-present need to “know”. Once you have discovered something, you will want to share it with those around. Upon this foundation, your need for communication grows. Emotional balance comes from being connected to your immediate environment and having other people in your life. The need for variety and change is usually strong here, and you will seek multiple experiences and projects to keep you on the go. Your curiosity can be both an endless source of discovery and a good deal of personal charm. Connected with others, you can share what you have learned. Moving from situation to situation generates feelings of newness and excitement that will always give you something interesting to talk about.

When the Moon is found in Pisces, the emotions are likely to be pronounced. Pisces is the final sign of The Zodiac, and has much to do with sensitivity – to oneself, to other people, and to the mysterious, unseen forces that shape our world. With the Moon in Pisces, you are likely to be a highly impressionable individual – strongly influenced by the compassionate, creative, imaginative, romantic and idealistic aspects of life.On an instinctive level, you may have a natural affinity for the abstract or intuitive. This affinity can be a blessing, or a curse. You are likely to be able to sense the hidden or energetic levels of life, soaking up atmospheres as if you were a sponge. Your feelings about people and situations are likely to be immediate, accurate and intense. Understanding that your feelings provide valuable information, but can lead you astray sometimes, means that you will need to learn to recognize the difference between an intuitive response to something, and an emotional reaction that is based on your response to whatever is going on. Your imagination is likely to be very strong. You can find all manner of nuance in many life experiences. You are likely to respond to all manner of visual and emotional stimuli, which work to jettison you off into the many worlds of your imagination. Here you can find recreation and release. Whether you prefer to escape into a comfortable world of your own daydreams, or immerse yourself in art, anything that works to activate your imagination feels like coming home, and enables you to nurture your soul. This is a great advantage if you turn your talents to anything creative. Most often, the Piscean energy is expressed through abstract art forms, so anything around music, film, photography, dance, drama, poetry or painting may appeal. Even if you do not practice as an artist, you are likely to be strongly in tune with certain art-forms. Because this sign is highly creative, opportunity awaits those of you who find an outlet for your vivid imaginations. You may also be highly intuitive, possessing innate psychic abilities if other factors in the chart are also present. You may have had a powerful sense of knowing from an early age, experienced prophetic dreams, or perhaps grown up in an environment where the women in particular were known for their psychic or healing abilities. Understanding how your “sixth sense” operates is your natural birthright, and one you can readily develop if you give it the time and respect it deserves.Pisces is a sign of mystery, and humanity is not yet at a stage of evolution to understand all that Life has to offer. We do not understand our intuition fully, nor do we understand all the dimensions which exist within our Universe. Accordingly, you may have a natural curiousity about the subtle forces which shape our lives which is beyond what other people understand. Your instinctive awareness that there is more than just the “Here and Now” gives you an innate acceptance of things which cannot be immediately explained. This sign is one of spiritual seeking. You may have a profound and personal relationship with your own experience of The Divine. This does not mean you are religious, and you may not follow any particular faith. But you are likely to feel in touch with something greater than yourself, and in your own way seek to live that experience out. As mentioned, Pisces is a sign of great sensitivity. Your life will be directed by feeling, and by the sense perhaps of an unseen “Hand” guiding it all. Love and relationship may be an area of life where you go through many lessons. Pisces is a very romantic sign. You may have a tendency to enter relationships or new experiences with rose-coloured glasses. Putting others on a pedestal means that invariably they must “fall off”. Yet you have the capacity for a rare kind of loving, based on the unconditional acceptance of others for who they are. Sometimes you experience an exalted kind of love that will bring you an experience of true union with another. At other times, you may need to wake up to harsh realities, seeing others for who they are, and not who you would like them to be. With the Moon here you need to be in relationship with others who respect your sensitivity. For this to happen, you must first respect it in yourself. Most often, women with the Moon in Pisces have an easier time, for women are allowed to explore and develop their sensitive sides. For men, this placement can be more difficult. Many men are taught from an early age to repress their emotional lives, leading to patterns of fear and self-denial in later life where the attempt to shut down and deny their intuitive side. Sometimes men born with the Moon in Pisces fear their natural sensitivities. They react badly to the idea of anything ‘otherwordly’, as this would mean opening up to parts of themselves that have long been locked away. The sign of Pisces carries within it an innate urge to escape – to leave behind the mundane aspects of life. Accordingly, you may find you have the need to withdraw periodically from the demands of life, taking time to replenish your highly sensitive emotional system. If you do not recognize when the time to withdraw has come, you may find yourself unable to cope with the demands of life. Withdrawal or escape is an important part of the Piscean experience. Whether you do this consciously or unconsciously will be entirely up to you.A conscious manifestation of this desire to escape could involve taking time to be alone, retreating from the world for contemplation, meditation, purification and renewal. Spending time by the water, or in nature, is especially soothing. Natural environments help release the emotional and psychological influences you have absorbed from others, and process those experiences that are necessary for your growth. As Pisces is a sign of compassion, you may also experience self-renewal through acts of kindness to others, consciously offering your compassionate nature in selfless acts of service to others. The trick here will be in learning not to take on more than your fair share. Giving of your self is a natural response, but you may need to learn when enough is enough. Sometimes those born with the Moon in Pisces need to recognize boundaries, so that their generous and compassionate qualities are not taken advantage of. An unconscious manifestation of the urge to escape would be more literal. This is usually characterized by a person who seeks to escape from the demands of this world through addiction, drugs or alcohol, through becoming dependent on some kind of government or welfare system, or losing themselves by becoming the victim of someone or something. Sometimes those born with the Moon in Pisces unconsciously become sick, vulnerable or destitute. However the escape is experienced, there is often an underlying feeling of not being able to cope in the world. However it manifests, the urge to escape is almost always about seeking purification, restoration and release on an emotional level. Becoming conscious of underlying motives and needs will help greatly in understanding the complexities of such a sensitive emotional nature. Recognizing that the need to escape embodies a desire to merge oneself back with the source of “All That Is” can help set up constructive paths to become involved in life again, through which a return to consciousness can occur. Born with the Moon in Pisces, you are likely to have an innate need to find outlets for your acute sensitivity. You are likely to be drawn to the romantic, creative, compassionate, service-oriented or spiritual dimensions of life. Your natural ability to sense what is really going on is your best asset but possibly your greatest stumbling block. By learning to respect your own nature, you see clearly the people and situations that will give you the respect that you deserve. Yours is a loving heart, looking for union with another. In Love you will discover your biggest reward, and the most worthy reason to sacrifice.

Born with the Moon in Cancer, you are likely to have an innate need to nurture, support and protect. Cancer is a Water sign, and so, pertains to the emotional, psychological and spiritual dimensions of life. Your empathy for others is likely to be strong, and you will have an intuitive ability to sense what others need. Cancer is also a Cardinal sign, and so is concerned with taking action somehow. You are likely to feel a sense of responsibility that will impel you to take action where others wellbeing is concerned. This is a sign of emotional support; of deep connection to family, home, and togetherness. A sense of emotional wellbeing comes from the family and home connections that you create in your life. The Moon rules Cancer, so is in its’ own sign. This will amplify the lunar qualities of emotion, empathy and intuition. You are likely to be strongly driven by emotion, influenced by your own ever-changing moods, as well as the moods of those around you. As the Moon is cyclic in nature, waxing and waning as it orbits the Earth, you too are likely to be a cyclical being. You are more influenced by your own inner cycles and instincts than logic or routine. You can use this sensitivity to great advantage if you learn to recognize your internal rhythms. Then you will know what you need in each moment, and will naturally follow your own inner path. Moon in Cancer people often do best when they can keep to their own schedules. The ebb and flow of emotion will affect their vitality, and so the kinds of activity that suit them from day to day. You are likely to be influenced by the moods and feelings of those around you, and can be deeply affected by whatever environment you are in. It is very important for those born with the Moon here learn to take responsibility for how sensitive and emotional they are. Otherwise, you may find yourself constantly tossed around in the sea of life, soaking up other peoples emotional and psychic states with little awareness of what is happening to you and why. For emotional balance, you need to recognize the difference between what is yours and not yours. Taking on the moods of others can distract you from your own best path. You may be unable to discern between your own feelings, and attitudes, and those of the people around you, for you are extremely impressionable, and likely to be instinctively responding to how others around you feel. This is useful when it comes to nurturing and supporting. You have an almost psychic sense of what they need and when! But for your own well-being, it can be problematic if you are constantly invested in others’ needs, with little conscious awareness, of what you need yourself! Ask yourself honestly if you know what your needs are? Can you define them? Do they depend upon the relative stance of other people? Are your true needs being met? You are advised to take good care of this highly sophisticated emotional mechanism by making sure you stay centered and grounded. This can be achieved in many ways, including spending time alone in nature or by the water when you feel the need. Meditation and retreat will work wonders for you. Learning to invigorate your emotional self will be one of the smartest skills you learn in life. Your instincts are actually your best friend, and will serve you very well once you have learned to decipher between what is yours, and what is not. You must remember how readily inclined you are to soak up the atmosphere of what is going on around you, and so, stay somehow separated when involved in circumstances where it would be best for you to stay detached. This is difficult, but can be achieved through practice, and using mental imagery to affirm that you are protected and contained. Visualizing a calm and protective white or pale blue bubble around you can be very helpful. The yogic practice of pranayama (controlled breathing) is another excellent tool for keeping your psychic field clear and contained. The Moon in Cancer can be very traditional. Matters to do with home and family life tend to feature strongly. For some, there will be an overarching concern for all things concerning family life. Having your family around you will be important and you are likely to feel very responsible for your family’s wellbeing. For others, especially if the Moon is aspected by other, more independent planets, you will still be affected by family life, but may find part of your journey involves the continual struggle to emerge from the “familial soup” so to speak, and become your own person. You may have to leave behind your family of origin to find your family of choice. You may have constant change with the people in your life, but notice you somehow feel at your best when there is someone there for you to take care of. A sense of belonging comes from maintaining emotional ties. You will willingly take on the responsibility of caring for others – this a natural place for you to be. Accordingly, this is a very maternal/paternal position for The Moon, lending strong nurturing capacities. Your relationship with your own mother is likely to be especially significant, and you may have a close symbiotic bond. Sometimes, the need to nurture can be so strong that you tend to over nurture, or smother, those you care about. With the Moon here, you may have to learn to let family members live their lives in their own way. You may have to let go of the habit of becoming overly invested in your family members’ lives. On a basic level, you need to give support and nurture to those around you, without jeopardizing their independence, as well as your own. Sometime the best way to protect others is to teach them what it means to go out into the world and achieve results. Like a mother hen, you may have to let go of the urge to keep your “chick” close beneath your wings. You nurture others best when you are not attempting to over-protect them from what may be, in the end, your own worst fears. On the down side, this Moon position can also be associated with a tendency to attract persons who are so emotionally needy that the Cancer Moon person finds themselves constantly in a position of taking care of the other whilst secretly resenting the fact that their own need for nurturing and support is not being met. This unconsciously becomes the perfect “hook” for the Cancer Moon individual to become absorbed in taking care of the other’s needs, whilst failing to get their own needs met in return. Often, Cancer Moon folk find themselves in codependent situations as they attract needy people, requiring constant support and attention. Your need to nurture means you get confused around where your true responsibilities lie. This will reflect the basic premise that you are more aware of others needs than you are of your own, and so will take action for them before you will do it for yourself. Withdrawing from relationships where you play “parent” is important and will allow you to attract into your life an equal who will recognize and meet your needs in return. Ultimately, you must learn about the sensitivity and subtle, unconscious patterns inherent in this Moon position. You need to understand your emotional self without being overwhelmed by its’ demands. This can be achieved by actively seeking to nurture others whilst maintaining appropriate boundaries, by recognizing your need to be close and protective, and then asking yourself if your needs can be met. Setting up relationships where you end up being disappointed just perpetuates misplaced feelings of guilt and responsibility. You need to surround yourself with people who recognize your nurturing qualities, and can give you the same in return. On another level, Cancer relates to the domestic side of life. Your home is likely to be very important to you, and in many ways your castle as well as retreat from the world. Your home should be as calm and serene as possible. You are probably naturally attuned to home decorating, and know how to make it both comfortable and inviting. This is the sign of hospitality, and you may be a great cook, or drawn to any activity where you can take care of others needs. Bringing people into your home is a great way for you to show them that you love them. Whilst you may be emotionally sensitive in environments not familiar to you, you can be at your best when home. Every effort should be made to make your home exactly as you want it. You may change homes continually in your life, but what should remain constant is the sense of peace that comes over you when you walk through the front door. Born with the Moon in Cancer, you are likely to have a highly developed intuitive and emotional side. You are likely to have a strong empathy for others, and will feel impelled to take action in order to nurture, support and protect them. Your uncanny sense of what others need gives you the ability to stay one step ahead. You recognise the unspoken opportunity present in many situations, and can act in ways that give others what they need. This sensitivity can be also be used for your own benefit. Recognizing your own rhythms or tides means you know exactly what you need and when. Learning to acknowledge your own needs is important, and may take time. It is easier for you to sense where others are coming from than it yourself. But once this skill is learned, there is little to hold you back. Born with the Moon in Cancer, you are a natural homemaker, family person and friend. With your heightened sensitivity, you connect easily with others, and get great joy from seeing them thrive.

Rimbaud in Africa, a book review
The only unbearable thing is that nothing is unbearable. These words of Arthur Rimbaud encapsulate the thirty seven years of suffering that constituted his life. One cannot help feeling that the awe with which he is viewed, both for his writing and for the enigma of his life, obscures many to the simpler and more humane fact that this was a person who suffered unbearably and bore it all to the bitter end. Born of an utterly loveless woman, so repugnant to him that even on his death bed he preferred to travel to the other side of France just so he could die in the clinical care of a doctor who sawed off his leg, he could never overcome the wounds inflicted by her and the many ripple effects her existence caused.
Charles Nicholls book Somebody Else; Arthur Rimbaud in Africa focuses on the years between his revolt against Literature and his excruciating death. They are marked by an utter, and as ever utterly self-flagellating, desperation to gain financial independence in a world that had already rejected his raison d’etre. So wounded is he by this rejection that even when the world begins to catch up to his genius (unusual for the world to do so in a geniuses own lifetime, though certainly grist to the mill of this rather unbelievable story) he cannot reopen his heart to it. It is a heart so wounded that it would have been improbable if not for his genius that he found any outlet for his suffering at all. But having done so, only to have it rejected, that heart, connected as it was to an iron will that would have made even Nietzsche blush, seems to have been condemned to be condemned, in the architectural sense.
Charles Nicholls book is unfortunately a bit scant for a book of over 350 pages on information actually pertaining to Rimbaud himself. One might protest that the subject is not exactly one that lends itself to knowledge, that the mystery regarding Rimbaud in Africa is one that is as open as the subject’s heart. But that would only throw the purpose of such a book’s existence into question. So inevitably a lot of the book is what the more cynical might justifiably call “filler”. But looked at another way – and this seems to be common among writers on Rimbaud – the book can be looked at as the personal journey of a lover of Rimbaud following in his footsteps. (And it certainly has that detective element to it). The book is composed of quite a bit of bulk; firstly a larger than expected introduction to Rimbaud’s pre-Africa years (the man from the Ronseal advert would not be happy), personal authorial anecdote, past and present description of the geography and it's socio-political context; all of which is fair enough except when all this is taken out there is actually very little Rimbaud that we do not already know. So though it is not a criticism, as some may still enjoy the world that is created with Rimbaud as its inspiration, others may tire of being constantly derailed from what the title suggests is the subject of the book.
When Rimbaud does appear, it is a mostly melancholy picture. Loneliness, desperation, seething, repressed rage. It is the story of a wounded child, desperate to grow up, desperate for independence from a punishing childhood and a past now abandoned with shame and disgust, but completely without the tools to do so. It is the story of an emotional wound festering without intervention to the stage of gangrene. One cannot help wondering at the close whether his suffering was worth the poems they spawned for such a short time; and if so, then what an artist is when they cease the flow of their art. For such an existentialist exemplar, Rimbaud’s life post-Literature does beg the question whether we choose our raison d’etre, or whether it chooses us, and our only volition is whether we accept it or not. It is perhaps idle to speculate what could have been for this poor man had he not been so traumatised so young, because perhaps then, what poems did come would not have, would have had no need to. It is a mystery among mysteries; which is probably to say that life is far more random and hazardous than we try to make it with our words. And this book is such an attempt, and an admirable one. The author is more than simply a detached detective. His is a labour of love.
The upshot of the book is certainly in seeing in more detail just how revered Rimbaud was in Africa. His colleagues, natives and customers alike tend to express a unique admiration, and almost love, for this individual they readily confess to being surly and morose; they seem to accept this as just a sad trait of one they understand to be broken deep down. His genius follows him even without his art, and is born once more in the eyes of those who behold him, far from the literary world of Paris that is only just waking up to his gifts. It even seems that perhaps in Africa, Rimbaud found what might be described as the closest thing to human love that existed in his life outside of his relationship with Paul Verlaine all those years earlier. And though this experience of love would end in similarly tragic circumstances, at least this time it was not human malice or folly that was to blame. The proof being in the longing and regret the people he left behind felt at his sickness and departure, and equally in his insistent desire to return to the fold as soon as possible. But it was never to be.
Nothing said about Rimbaud in Africa would be ingenuous without commenting on the accusations regarding two subjects: the alleged killing of a man in Cyprus, and his involvement in the African slave trade. Both subjects seem doomed to inconclusion for the time being. The killing, if it happened, was an accident, but Rimbaud already being of a fugitive heart, a feral and desperate child, fled the country in fear. And that ends that, as far as knowledge is concerned. The slave trade is a far more difficult situation to gauge. It would appear that slavery was something so common in the context of the time and place that no European could avoid coming into contact with it, and that even with the strictest moral compass, such proximity alone would go some way to scrambling what moral boundaries exist outside such conditions. A contemporary example might be the way we today deal with homelessness. We know it is wrong, and yet it is everywhere. Do we raise our voices in protest? Do we always give aid? Do we take them into our homes? Do we do anything that can be deemed sufficient as a moral response? These, I imagine, are the conditions in which a European would find themselves in nineteenth century Africa. And Nicholls does a good job of placing things in context, and employing his investigatory acumen in the service of drawing a line between fact and fiction, speculation and proof on this thorniest of issues, and even uncovers sheer irresponsibility on the part of certain commentators whose careless pronouncements in the past have played the greater part in proliferating these stories about Rimbaud. But it must always be remembered that when dealing with Rimbaud we are dealing with extreme love and extreme hate in the shape of his admirers and detractors, as is always the sad case in matters of literary legends. One must always err on the side of caution when looking upon such figures, and not let the words obscure the human.
In the final analysis, it seems to be in the very essence of Arthur Rimbaud to evade detection as a matter of course. He is like the headlights of a car at night, perpetually illuminating just how little is not steeped in darkness. And perhaps the person he most evaded was himself. This young man, never loved at the crucial time, the beginnings of a self sabotaged by his own distrust and the rejection it elicited, then fleeing from that self in disgust and seeking it in some of the most inhospitable regions of the Earth for any nineteenth century European, let alone one who had barely ever left behind his childhood, understandably had a lot driving at his heels. His fate seemed doomed from the start, totally without the tools needed to thrive. To himself he really must have seemed quite another.

Quick Quirks
Some games have quirks, traits, aspects, and other goods along those lines baked right into the game. I’m mainly thinking of GURPS, Hero System, Fate, and Savage Worlds. There are plenty more games that I didn’t list here that have some way to customize and define your characters beyond “I’m a dwarven barbarian with an axe.”
This article is more for those gamers playing the games without these baked-in features of the game, but it can also assist the games that do have these structures.
As a player, I’ve found that my characters are more enjoyable (and memorable) if they have a quirk or three. I generally don’t do more than three because then the character gets annoying to play and to be around. I may even adopt new quirks or allow an old one to be overcome (or simply fade away) as game progresses because of in-game activities.
As a GM, I love adding one quirk (maybe two if it’s a major character) to NPCs that I want the players to remember. It’s a mental hook for them to hang their memory on. They may not remember that “Ragnar” was the fellow with the McGuffin, but they’ll certainly remember “the fellow with the bad limp and comb-over hairstyle.” These mnemonic clues can ease the game for players. This is especially true for those campaigns that may have long gaps between sessions (like a monthly game).
So, let’s get on to some tables you can roll on to generate some quirks. As always, random generation tables are going to produce some really odd results, so use them to spark your imagination. In other words, don’t take the results literally…. Unless that really works for you and your group.

A side note: Yes, I’m aware that 2d20 on a “linear list” isn’t a fair chance for each item on the list, and I didn’t cultivate the list to make oddball quirks more or less likely. I just decided that it’d be easier to lay it out the way I did rather than a d12 followed by a d20, which would be more mathematically fair. It would also give us a chance to use those rarely-rolled d12s. Ah well, such is how I have things done.
I hope you’re able to use this list of quirks and traits in your various games!

What's wrong with JWT and token based authentication in general?
Tumblr media
This article is inspired by known cases of JWT and tokens in general being misused both against stated designers' assumptions and against security level tokens can provide. Also, there is intention to raise awareness of thinking people.
General problem of communication through untrusted peers
There is a very long history of seals, special paper, special ink and other past technology advancements for verification of document authenticity. And it was a constant race against "fraud technology".
However, all that ended in online validation of all paper documents in any IT developed country. Finally, most paper documents have been abolished. Physical or electronic documents on hands become only secure handles/pointers to records in centralized databases.
Token anatomy
Token is an analogue of paper document issued in authority institution and to be accepted in other institution recognizing the authority.
The only way to control validity of document is expiration time and authority stamps. Some post-use checks can be implemented, but it does not prevent fraudulent document acceptance to happen. So, it does not prevent crime to happen. A typical counter-measure is to delay document processing for additional checks what is not acceptable in authentication case.
Token expiration time should be no more than 5-10 minutes to workaround logout problem.
Stamp security is ensured solely by "secure" keys & cryptography technology used. Below is a dedicated section on such "security".
In general, much more advanced client software is required:
It has to manage prompt token renewal every N seconds.
It should avoid renewal request amplification due to multiple running instances (e.g. open browser tabs).
Avoid unneeded token refresh in idle.
Has to deal with refresh failures and "harmful" for processing user actions.
What about well-known X.509 PKI then?
X.509 public key infrastructure can be seen as a "slow" and "advanced" token based authentication and vice-versa. For example, the following X.509 - JWT mapping is quite obvious:
Certificate - Token,
Certification Authority (key) - signing and/or encrypting Key,
Common Name - Subject,
Issuer - as is,
Expiration Time & Not Before - as is,
Serial Number - JWT ID,
Purpose - Audience,
Standardized Extensions - Public Claims,
Custom Extensions - Private Claims.
Basically, X.509 PKI has the same known problems:
CA private key security problem.
Problem of compromised certificate invalidation.
General weak cryptography problems.
The following sub-technologies exist as a proof of X.509 shifting towards online validation:
OCSP as generic online validation:
RFC 6960: X.509 Internet PKI - Online Certificate Status Protocol
also Wikipedia
DNS CAA record:
RFC 6844: DNS Certification Authority Authorization (CAA) Resource Record
also Wikipedia
Most likely, the related working group will come with some sort of online JWT/JWS validation as well. It's only a matter of time.
How secure the tokens are?
You can find many theoretical claims on security of one or another cryptography technology. Let's avoid theoretical speculations about the time when well-known attacks appear for HMAC/SHA-256, elliptic keys, AES-GCM or other types used in JWT/JWS. It's just enough to keep in mind that widely used in the past RSA keys below 1024-bit, MD5 and SHA-1 hash functions are known to be weak now. By fact, it takes years to upgrade technology in field. There is also a rich history of token-based authentication and similar "encrypted cookie" epic vulnerability cases.
There are more serious problems in key management - incompetent and irresponsible personnel. It's a type of security flaw when personnel does not need to be involved in crime, but unconsciously allows it to happen.
That's fatal with symmetric keys. Use of asymmetric keys can improve the situation if third-party authentication provider with proper security practices is used. Implementation of proper automatic key rotation can be a good counter-measure as well.
However, another problem appears in poor security-related design & coding of client and protected service implementations.
What is the proper solution then?
The statement below refer to Single Sign On (SSO) complexity. For a standalone service, it's more simple.
There must be a direct Service to AuthProvider communication channel.
Claims should be signed and the signature must be verified before further processing to prevent DoS attacks penetrating into backend infrastructure.
All claims must be verified online.
Result caching must be aware of session specifics with proper invalidation driven by AuthProvider.
Client fingerprints association is essential for token hijacking prevention.
There is no performance or scalability barriers, if hands and head are in the right place.
Conclusion
So, what is JWT and related technologies? It's just a transport container for claims. It's not a complete authentication solution. Online JWT/JWS validation protocol is essential.
So, what is "stateless session"? Either unintelligent wordplay or simple idiocy. Leaving choice for authors from zero security company.
So, what is "stateless" Token Based Authentication?
It's a regression and replication of past authentication model mistakes.
It's an aid for attackers as they need to concentrate only on token forgery as the only barrier for total control.
It's just another recurring hype for thoughtless masses.
The alternative is scalable and implementable "stateful" sessions as the only way to go for high security cases.
There are always many paths to achieve the same goal. The chosen path depends on competence, past experience and vision.

occasionally i wonder if, considering the huge amount of different precious metals in eorzea, if gil is backed by boring old gold or silver... or something more exciting, like mythril, or is it bimetallic or perhaps even polymetallic? and even knowing gil just is the way it is for the ease of players rather than anything in-universe, i channel my inner william jennings bryan when i consider the monetarist faction in ul’dah vis-a-vis currency backing considerations

wantcookie replied to your post “so i am fuckin Made Of Hype for getting FF1 in the final chapter of...”
doesn't look like anyone's mentioned it yet in the replies here, so: the ffxiv twitter apparently stated that chaos is gonna be the FIRST boss of the alphascape. which, uh. has some very interesting implications.

so, one thought i have been returning to frequently over the past several weeks is concerning zenos
and it is that not since og sephiroth has squeenix presented a villain so totally sexlessly and yet wound up with a very large and incredibly thirsty and eroticized fandom for them, and it makes me wonder if, since 4.2 and especially the 4.2 stinger is what it is, sephiroth’s meta trajectory over the compilation might be an informative and useful thing to consider
now, let me clarify my terms here
first off, what i mean by “sexlessly presented.” i do NOT mean anything about the character’s attractiveness, nor do i mean to say said character is asexual, nor do i say anything about the validity one way or another of sexy fanart/fanfic concerning the character. what i mean is that the creators of the work went to some lengths to avoid either presenting the character as sexual or in an eroticized way, positive or negative. just a big “mu” there on the topic of character sexuality. this is very much a doylist (out-of-universe) analysis rather than watsonian (in-universe) going on here, so i’ll go in further, and in doing so bring up the other final fantasy villains whose presentation cannot be described that way as counterexamples.
so! sex in the presentation of a character can refer to one of two (or both) facets, i’m going to phrase here in the form of questions: “does the work care to inform the audience about that character’s sexuality/sexual interiority?” and “does the work invite its audience to consider the character’s sexual attractiveness to them personally?” if the answer to either of those questions is “no,” that indicates the character was presented sexlessly. do note that all of this is concerning how the creators intended the character to be read, which is not the same as audience reaction; “i think [character] is hot therefore they were presented sexually”/”i think [character] is ugly therefore they were presented sexlessly” are not valid responses here. --in fact it’s important to note that presenting an “ugly” character in a sexual way is a common tactic to increase audience revulsion; presenting a character sexually doesn’t have to mean titillation or pleasant fantasizing. also important to note is that, for those questions, the answer to one can be “yes” while the answer to the other is “no,” and to further elucidate this, i’mma grab two other final fantasy villains as counterexamples, ultimecia and seymour.
ultimecia is, i would say, an example of the answer to the first question being “no” but the second question being “yes,” due to her character design and the long history of male gaze in visual works. cut of outfit, posing of character, angles of shots, yadda yadda, y’all should know this please don’t ask me to redo the past sixty years of film criticism in a tumblr post for free. and despite the eroticization of ultimecia’s character design, in the work there’s basically nothing regarding what she thinks and feels concerning sex, who or what she’s interested in if indeed she is interested in anything at all. (do note: for the purposes of this analysis, i do count explicitly confirming a character to be asexual as presenting them sexually; essentially because in so confirming it does inform the audience about the character’s sexual interiority). meanwhile, seymour is an arguable example of the reverse situation; the audience isn’t invited to think sexy thoughts about seymour (most of FFX fandom considers him ugly/repellant) but we do have something of an idea of the character’s sexual interiority because of how plot-relevant his marriage proposal and his relationship (such as it were) with yuna are. so yeah, in summary both characters are presented sexually though in very different ways.
i would say that zenos is presented in such a way that the answers to both questions are “no”: the work offers no insight regarding the character’s sexual interiority, nor does its presentation of the character encourage sexual consideration in the audience. yes, zenos is handsome, with his long blond hair and striking features, but that is not the same. all we ever see of his skin is his face, he is always clothed in armor bulky and concealing--its silhouette obliterates that of his own body, disguises it to look like a Scary Monstrous Thing rather than anything sensual or fleshy. his motions and poses are intended to make the audience fear and be awed by him--his slow walk is to inspire dread and impress the audience with his power, not to seduce, when he stands he looms intimidatingly. within 4.0 itself, no other character is shown as thinking or feeling anything sexual about him--indeed, that’s explicitly shot down in the scene where nameless characters we understand to be bitter and jealous of fordola accuse her of gaining her position via sexual favors to zenos, which we know did not happen and have further reinforced later in her post-experimentation scene, with her in her underwear with zenos and aulus and it being totally serious and focused solely on the surgical aspect. similarly, zenos as a being with a sexuality is unaddressed--yes, there is fandom interpretation of his feelings towards the player character as potentially sexual, but 1) fandom does that with literally everyone and 2) thanks to characters like haurchefant and aymeric, we do actually have something of a model for what it can look like when romantic/sexual interest towards the player character is textual, and zenos don’t do it. so--strictly in the context of 4.0 text, yes, i would say zenos is presented near-totally sexlessly, both as a character for audience consumption and as an in-universe person whose sexual inner life is left unaddressed.
and yet, like the last time squeenix made a villain a handsome man and presented him sexlessly, he’s gotten an enormous and enormously horny fandom. now, the compilation of ffvii has acknowledged and capitalized on this response, but it remains to be seen if the same will happen (or happen the same way) in the patches in the 4.x series. it’s interesting to me then that not only has zenos been “brought back to life” (i remain unsure if it’s the genuine article or some manner of magitek/ascian fuckery), but the same installment that did so also introduced asahi, frighteningly devoted zenos fanboy extraordinaire. this could go a lot of directions, it remains to be seen which one will be chosen.

newly-revealed color scheme of 4.3 doggo mount is making me revise my personal odds ranking of what the ~*~*~spoilery mystery trial~*~*~ will be
previously it was 50/50 “some zenos bullshit”/”some (yo)tsuyu bullshit”
now it’s 50/45/5 “some zenos bullshit”/”some (yo)tsuyu bullshit”/”some magnai bullshit”

thought:
if alisaie’s shoes are still a bit eh platform-y or lifted, but alphinaud’s no longer are (as per the official artwork in last reblog) this would mean the twins are not actually the same height anymore, and so:
one
is it finally happening? are they beginning to grow up???
two
is refusing to “let” alphinaud be taller than her a conscious choice of alisaie’s, and if so, how far will she go in terms of footwear to maintain this dynamic

weird hypotheses i have been entertaining, in no particular order:
the ivalice raid questline will turn out to be ~*~all a dream~*~ or have taken place in a ~*~magic book~*~ or will be ~*~made unreal~*~ or some other such reset-button device will be employed.
omega plotline may wind up being more than 3 installments, and final installment will not involve borrowed and slightly altered dissidia nt assets more famed villains of final fantasy history but rather the weapons: ruby, emerald, diamond, omega.
4.0 had alisaie stop bein an ACN and instead be our RDM “ambassador” of a sort, per her personality and appropriate to her red ribbon and other red elements of her outfit. 5.0 will repeat this, but it’ll be with alphinaud and blue mage (he has always been good at using his enemies’ words against them. it’s just a little more literal now).
ala mhigo as the setting it wound up being in the final product was a last-minute decision--originally when they were working on it they had a much more eh. “typical fantasy setting” in mind (the way gridania, ul’dah, and limsa lominsa [as much as i love them] are verymuch following the “generic fantasy forest area,” “generic fantasy desert area,” and “generic fantasy maritime area” templates) and the final decision to change course and gun for persia or bust was made uncomfortably close to the point-of-no-return in development timeline.

so before 4.2 hits i just wanna throw down My Hot Take on the zenos business that sprung up from the 4.1 stinger
basically i don’t think zenos is secretly alive, nor do i think there is a plot to either bring him back from the dead or seriously perpetuate a belief that HE LIIIIIIVES. (i acknowledge i could very well be wrong, but)
varis (and elidibus) know zenos is dead. varis does not mourn his son, and admits that he would have been a very, very bad ruler. why, then, not use his official position as emperor to quash rumors about zenos surviving? why even lend them the stamp of his authority in the form of official pronouncement? he knows zenos is dead, and, i suspect, he knows it would be so simple for the current provisional government (in function, if not in title) of ala mhigo to immediately discredit the rumors and undermine garlemald by proving zenos dead. the other imperial official in that conversation even spells out how: producing zenos’s remains. as zenos died as himself, “cleanly,” and his body immediately fell into the custody of the responsible, reasonable members of the scions/alliance/resistance (as opposed to e.g. being strung up for a mob to abuse), that in fact is the most convincing method and it makes them look strong. “zenos is dead, and we can absolutely prove it, here, see his dead body. we have nothing to hide.”
like i said--it should be trivially easy for the provisional government of ala mhigo to provide, for garleans to examine however much they need to to determine that it is not counterfeit, the body of zenos yae galvus, varis’s son, heir, and irreplaceable test subject.
i’m pretty sure making that happen was the plan from the start.

consider:
aight so i know every single building, edifice, habitation and so forth in the game is designed to be usable by even the largest of player characters as well as the 3rd-person camera and no one ever remarks on this but
consider that if there is one place on the game where failing to account for the particular accommodations needed by lalafell would make sense through a watsonian lens, it'd be ishgard, where the vast majority (esp of the dominant/wealthy classes) is composed of two-meter-minimum snow elfs. then consider that during 3.0, tataru had to make her way through that.
just picture: after a long and aggravating day contending with elezen-sized furniture, elezen-paced stairs, elezen-height doorknobs and elezen-appropriate quills and other tools, tataru decides she deserves to treat herself... and orders the largest dessert off the elezen-aimed menu.
