spent way too long trying to translate the concept of "pride month" to some version of r'lyehian for a dumb terraria thing i might not even make
i ended up with "s'uhnehyeorr'eyar" in case anyone was wondering (just "ehyeorr'e" for "pride")
so, according to this guide:
s'uhn = pact ehye = cohesion/integrity orr'e = soul/spirit -yar = time of
i think "ehyeorr'e" would roughly mean "spirit of integrity," as in the idea of one staying true to themself no matter what. so that feels like a fitting way to refer to "pride."
adding "s'uhn" to the beginning to make "s'uhnehyeorr'e" changes it to what i'd interpret as meaning "unity between spirits of integrity," so that could be used to mean "lgbt+ community"
and finally, the "yar" at the end for "s'uhnehyeorr'eyar" makes it something like "time of unity between spirits of integrity." hence, "pride month!"

Fic Writer Review
Tagged by @mira--mira. Thank you for the tag! 😄 That WIP thing you tagged me months ago still haunts me and I promise I will get to it some day.
1. How many fics on AO3?
19
2. Total AO3 wordcount?
91,058
....when did this happen. 😂
3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
Naruto (10)
Harry Potter (5)
Hetalia (4)
+Bleach and Detective Conan on ff.net.
HP & Hetalia are from, like, 7-8 years back and earlier though.
4. Top Five by Kudos?
c'mon and get your kicks - SNS superhero AU ft. Sasuke's socially inept flirting and one of my favourite tropes - identity porn. Hand-written, typed and edited in a 10-hour daze.
Chameleon White - HSMD canon-divergent, time-travel fixit (sort of). Not sure why so many people read it, but I'm glad that it brought the readers some joy.
Of Monsters and Sleep - DenNor, Hetalia, written in 2013. Can only vaguely recollect the contents.
Simmer Down and Pucker Up - SNS spy AU ft. explosions, nipples, zombies and accidental honeypots. Marked my return to fanfic writing after a 7-year break.
For My Dreams (and a Pocketful of Gold) - Wolfstar superhero AU, written for R/S Small Gifts.
5. Do you respond to comments, why/why not?
I do if it's criticism, or if people have questions that won't be answered later on in the fic.
Otherwise, I don't. As much as I like praise and appreciation, it embarrasses me - both online and offline - and I never know how to react like a normal person since I wasn't socialised properly as a kid. I prefer to blush furiously in the safety of my room.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
There's a Naruto (SasuHina) fic I'd written back in high school. The angst is exactly as melodramatic and cringy as you'd expect coming from a 15 y.o. who's learning how to process their emotions. Otherwise, Chameleon White I guess? Not angsty per se, just a little sad.
7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?
Nope. Can't go through the mental gymnastics of making characters from different universes react, haha. But I like fics where the cast of series A lives in and follows the same rules as the universe of series B.
There's an SNS JJBA AU I fiddle with sometimes, titled Sasuke's Bizarre Adventure. It's basically a retelling of Stardust Crusaders, with Hashimada playing the role of Joseph (the weird and dramatic grandfathers), Orochimaru as Dio (thirsty for that Uchiha blood) and Itachi (parallel to Jonathan's body that Dio...commandeered) who Sasuke and co. set out to rescue.
8. Have you received hate on a fic?
Not on anything after I picked up writing again. People here are really kind! I did receive some hate on a Bleach fic on ff.net that I'd written in 2011/12, but I came across that comment 8 years after it was posted, so it was kinda funny. They were viciously sore about how the 2 characters did not end up together. Which is not really my problem because I never hinted at a romance??? Idk man, it confused me.
9. Do you write smut?
Writing smut is embarrassing, sorry. It's like eating food I made myself, as opposed to consuming food that someone else has made for you with quality ingredients, impeccable hygiene and passion.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Nope.
11. Ever had a fic translated?
Haha, nope.
12. Ever co-written a fic before?
*looks at my million WIPs* I have commitment issues.
13. All time favorite ship?
Well, wolfstar (Remus/Sirius from HP) is a ship that's endured for literal years. I'm a big fan of the best-friends-to-tragedies (with a healthy dose of betrayal) trope. Really goes through the full emotion spectrum. Which is why I like Hashimada and SNS too.
14. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?
Ahiṃsā, an Itachi & Sasuke-centric fic where after the massacre, Itachi runs away with Sasuke instead of running away to Akatsuki. It was going to based on some of the virtues of Hinduism & some other religions which developed in the same part of the world. Edo-tensei Madara would have made an appearance, and it would have been a fic about peace and brotherhood and family and the ties to your birthplace...but yeah. 😅
15. What are your writing strengths?
Conciseness (I say on the longest post I've ever made on this website).
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
Also conciseness. I would love for my writing to be more descriptive, where I set up the ambience and emotions but it's really hard for me. If I try it, I end up hating it.
Also prepositions. Is it sitting in a chair or on a chair. Stuff like this just fucks me up.
17. What are your thoughts of writing dialogue in other languages?
Not a fan. Some commonly used terms are fine - like common jutsu names etc, but otherwise, it breaks the flow. I get that if you're reading a fic from a character's POV, the general practice is to write in another language if that character is as clueless as you, but I don't like it. I'd prefer if people wrote "kommaut alle woo" (pardon my French) instead of "comment allez-vous" so that I read it in the same way the character hears it, but that's just me haha. Writing stuff in different languages/scripts is fine if the character is reading text they don't understand.
18. First fandom you wrote for?
Bleach or Detective Conan. I'm too scared to go to my ff.net and find out.
19. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?
I have a very hands-off approach with my fics. Once it's written, it's gone. I love the comments and kudos and bookmarks and feedback, but otherwise, it's not my problem. The author is dead, time to play with the next one. But the SNS spy AU kept me occupied the longest and gave me the freedom to write some really random shit, so. :')
......
I think most people I know here who write have already been tagged, but @libby-failedsage if you're up for it and haven't done it already - and anyone else who wants to!

Idk anything about Dragon Age tell me why I should play it. MAKE YOUR CASE LIAM
OH SHIT OKAY!!!!!
-rly rich story. like,, ,, , this is LOTR levels of worldbuilding.  basically it’s set in a world called thedas, yadda yadda, there’s a realm called the Fade which is like where all the magic and spirits come from. People connected to the fade are mages, and they are, well, mages. The religious government, the chantry, decided mages were dangerous and started oppressing them, locking them away in towers and killing any mage who put a toe out of line. These Mage “sanctuaries” are called Circles. Some mages believe it’s their best shot at peace, while others see Circles as cages.  Mages who escape the chantry’s rule over them and live freely are called apostates, and they’re illegal. The story often touches on the mage rebellion against the chantry and its templars. Elves seem to most commonly be mages, though humans and Qunari (big grey horned people) can also be mages. Dwarves can’t, because they evolved so far underground that the fade could never touch them.
-The characters. Varric Tethras is the narrator of Dragon Age 2, and he’s a snarky yet loveable dwarf. You don’t get to romance him though :( he has a heart of gold and a lowkey tragic backstory. (hes also, ,, , probably the only in-game male dwarf that doesnt look like a foot hgfjdksl;). He has a unique and expensive crossbow named Bianca and he basically acts like he’s married to her. To be fair, it’s a really nice crossbow.
Tumblr media
-The representation. Dragon Age has,, a lot of flaws in this regard, but you can’t deny it’s trying its best. There’s romance in all 3 games, and in all 3 of them you can be gay. There’s a huge pool of bisexual and pansexual characters, plus a few lesbians (Notably Sera, the elven rogue who greets you by giving you the recipe for a literal flask of bees)
Tumblr media
and a gay man named Dorian, who’s a romance option and teammate in Dragon Age Inquisition. I love Dorian. He’s rad.
Tumblr media
There’s a trans man in Inquisition called Krem, and as a trans man myself I think he was written wonderfully. He’s,,, voiced by a cis woman but we can’t win all the battles. The best part is that all the characters are 100% supportive, and it’s not a huge part of his character. It gets brought up, yes, but he’s very well written (he’s a buff as fuck idiot who hangs out at the tavern and gets drunk and tells you silly stories about his mercenary jobs).
Tumblr media
There’s also a canon autistic character called Cole, who I really love!! He’s my favourite and I’m making a cosplay of him. He’s never referred to as autistic in the game, however the man who wrote him, Patrick Weekes, has confirmed that he was deliberately based around his real-life autistic nephew. You can really tell, through his mannerisms and body language, and i find it incredibly relatable.
Tumblr media
-The soundtrack. DAI has a soundtrack fit for an epic fantasy movie. Dragon Age 2′s theme (and in part, Varric’s official theme song) is I’m Not Calling You A Liar by Florence And The Machine, and to a kind of cringey extent the theme song for the first DA game, Origins, is This Is War by 30 Seconds To Mars (aka that edgy as fuck song by jared leto ppl use in all the AMVs)
-The writing. I love how all the trailers for these games present it as a serious and dramatic LOTR-esque series, and then you get into the game and instead it’s just shit like the following quotes:
“yes… swooping is. .… … bad….”
“zap! frog time!”
“tell me, have you ever licked a lamp post in winter?”
“what? lead? no no no, no leading. Bad things happen when I lead. we get lost, people die and the next thing you know I’m stranded somewhere without any pants on.”
[those 4 were all from the same character ghfjdksl. his name is alistair and he’s a half-elf-half-human bastard of the deceased king of ferelden. he’s like on Thor levels of ‘buff, blonde and dumb as all hell’]
Tumblr media
BONUS LITTLE TIDBITS
-One character jacked off after you killed a dragon with him because the experience turned him on
-a character had a pet cat called ser-pounce-a-lot. this is ser-pounce-a-lot.
Tumblr media
-the character that jacked off to killing dragons is voiced by fred from the live action scooby doo movies
-as a welsh person it really excites me that it has two notable welsh actors in it, who ironically are both playing elven apostates. Eve Myles, who plays Gwen in Torchwood, voices Merrill
Tumblr media
and Gareth David-Lloyd, who plays Ianto in Torchwood, voices Solas
Tumblr media
Anyway uhhh I don’t know what else to say without rambling for ages (not that I haven’t already) so enjoy.

(1)Ok, here goes. I used to do a lot of D&D, and one of the things I most love is worldbuilding. I have a couple of ideas for "stories" banging around in my head, but alot more idras about the world I want them to happen in. This is a world with old
old school dieties who are active and meddlesome in the world. And I really want to be really inclusive with my pantheons. I already jave this vaguepost esqu consept of my goddesses of Fate and Chance as countebalancing longtime lesbian lovers. I also want gender neutral and genderqueer deities, asexuals, and would love trans but since deities tend to have shapeshifting powers I'm stuck on how exactly to manipulate that one. My problem though, is that I am just a poor white gay man and I am twrrified that if I try to sit down and flesh out these characters that I will FuckItUp(TM) royally. Any suggestions on where you would start? To be more specific, you have some great adice here for introducing said characters, but I'm still at the building and even basic concept stages of some of these. If I helps I am *NOT* using any of their queernesses as the starting points. I want them to be deities who are queer, not queer deities. That is very imlortant to me. Ex: Fate and Chance are a lesbian couple, they are *NOT* The Lesbian Goddesses of Fate and Chance.
apologies for taking so long to respond to this! I’m far from a professional writer (I’ve only done comic scripts and as of yet haven’t started properly working on anything with LGBT themes) so my advice to you is limited but I’ve put a few thoughts under the cut. Hope this helps and as always, followers are welcome to join the discussion too.
First Golden Rule: don’t be scared to fuck it up. Do it, potentially fuck it up, fix it, and learn something new in the process. Fear for getting things ‘wrong’ is probably the most common excuse I hear for writers/artists not being diverse with their characters and stories, and while it’s an understandable one it’s not unbeatable. Writing is the same as any other skill, you learn from your mistakes. Do your research, particularly on what nasty tropes/offensive language to avoid (there are loads of writing blogs out there with pages on ‘How to Write [X] Minority’ which are helpful starting points) and when in doubt, get another human being to look at it for you, preferably from the demographic you’re trying to write. ‘Write what you know’ does not mean ‘stay in the tiny bubble of your personal experience’, it means ‘research stuff before you write about it’.
Personally I would try and avoid shapeshifting abilities when it comes to trans/nonbinary characters. Maybe one single magical transformation as their form of ‘transition’ but it’s a trope very commonly used to hint at a character being being gender nonconforming/queer in some way but doing it in a really ambiguous way. Maybe it’s just me with a pet peeve but I am not a fan of a character who can shapeshift into any form they want being labelled ‘genderfluid’ (see Marvel’s Loki), it just feels a bit...lazy? Idk, it may be just me, but shapeshifting does make things very complicated so have a think about who gets to shapeshift and what the limitations of their abilities are. If you’re going to do it you’ll have to be very explicit about what’s going on.
As for the ‘characters who are queer, not queer characters’ thing, that is probably the best way to go about it as it avoids you falling into the pitfalls of character stereotypes. Personally my way of doing it is to create a character as I would any other, make them as in-depth and rounded as possible, and then add in the sexuality/gender stuff afterwards. This might seem like ‘shoe-horning’ but as long as you then consider how that part of their identity may have affected their life so far, or in the future (because it will! queerness does not exist in a bubble and impacts on our daily lives) then it should feel like a natural part of them rather than them just existing as the token minority with no other dominating traits.
I hope some of this helped? Sorry it’s a bit rambly, but I hope there’s something useful in here for you :)
