okay so i don't really have a point to make over here but i've been thinking about this a lot lately so here we go: ever notice how alex tends to use a lot of dance-related words as metaphors for sex but almost always undercuts the image of elegance/beauty that might evoke using interesting juxtapositions and wordplay??

in piledriver waltz (submarine ep, 2010; also reprised for suck it and see, 2011) he writes "i heard the piledriver waltz// it woke me up this morning". now 'piledriver waltz' here refers to someone having sex (atleast the contributors at genius think so and so do i). turner uses the word waltz- an intimate ballroom dance between two partners- but adds piledriver- which is, as wikipedia tells me, "a professional wrestling driver move in which the wrestler grabs their opponent, turns them upside-down, and drops into a sitting or kneeling position, driving the opponent head-first into the mat". so you see, the refined, elegant, romantic connotations of waltz is contrasted with the image of rough ruthlessness that piledriver brings.

(ALSO also did you notice? a wrestling reference? all the way back in 2010 👀 now idk if it's a regular vocab words or specific to wrestling-lingo only back in uk, but my studied-english-as-first-language-in-school-but-not-native speaker ass did have to google what the hell that means)

another such oxymoron-esque treatment of metaphors for sex we see in everything you've come to expect (everything you've come to expect, 2016). the line, one of my absolute favourite things turner and kane have ever written, goes "dirtbag ballet by the bins down the alley // as i walk through the chalet of the shadow of death". 'dirtbag ballet' again refers to sex here, this time the illicit kind, the kind that takes place in shadowy corners and dingy alleys. 'ballet' is another term that we will immediately associate with elegance and graceful moves but the use of 'dirt bag' by it's side brings a sense of crassness, almost vulgar quality to it. that term immediately paints a very stark picture of wild clandestine passion that illicit affairs carries probably. the song talks about that a lot.

(PS: an applause for the impeccable internal rhyme in those lines tho. *chef's kiss*)

the last example that stands out to me is from four stars out of five (tranquility base hotel and casino, 2018) where the line goes "hokey cokey with the opposite sex." (someone mentioned it around here today and that's what sparked this post. EDIT: it's @homoirrealis https://www.tumblr.com/lalaballa1977/717488374837084160?source=share) now there's no clever oxymoron-metaphor situation here, but the choice of that specific dance to talk about sex (straight sex, as the songwriter so kindly points out) is very interesting to me. hokey cokey as we know is a campfire dance that originated with brit folk dances and tunes. it's so funny because whenever i hear that line it immediately takes me back to kindergarten and a bunch of us kids standing in a circle, singing the rhyme and learning the dance. therefore in my mind atleast, hokey cokey evokes images of practiced, monotonous movements of hand and feet, no fluidity, no elegance. also the communal aspect of it. what if we read it as something you are made to participate in because you are a part in a group, because a number of pairs of eyes are on you. a question worth pondering perhaps.

and all this referring to sex?

also the song goes on to entice you to escape to this swanky hotel-casino-taqueria up on the moon and get far, far away from shit that you have done and regret and want to forget. then why is this hokey cokey with the opposite sex also one of those things the narrator might want to forget?

Hmmmmm questions worth pondering, innit?

@zoeyfoster-blog Omg I'm extremely biased, but I would say yes. For one, GX is a comedic masterpiece especially if you watch the dub. Yes the dub takes itself way less seriously and changes a lot of stuff from the canon japanese version BUT. It's so funny. It's so so so funny. Other then that I mean, GX is just a fun show with fun characters. I love the characters dearly (Chazz it up for life), but it's not like. The most brilliant piece of media out there. It's a pretty standard show for kids really. Though it get's really angsty and dark in seasons 3-4. Idk I really love it personally. If I were you, I'd watch s1, maybe early season 2 dubbed, because those parts of the show are a lot more silly and watching them dubbed would make it more funny/enjoyable. But def switch to sub on the more serious episodes like those in s3. Also thank you for liking my art :'D!!

what if u and anakin grew up together on tatooine and were childhood friends…you would spend time in each other’s company, him fixing droids, and you helping patch up the other kids and helping animals. you two grew fond of each-other over time, shmi even remarked how adorable you two would be as a married couple. both of you gagged at the statement, but deep down you hoped it to be true, and you wanted him to feel the same. once of age he went to train as a jedi while you advanced in the health field, traveling through different systems to learn different methods of medicine.

for those years where he was a jedi knight you focused on building your reputation. easy to say both of you were kept very busy and had little time to peruse personal endeavors. once the clone wars hit you gained experience as a battlefield medic as anakin became a general. you had little time to reminisce of your past but you did miss the boy you loved on tatooine, you wondered where in the galaxy he was now.

you gained the reputation of a skilled healer who could find some way to alleviate even the most severe symptoms. you weren’t terribly involved with the politics of the galaxy. you had no real opinion on the fall of the republic or the rise of the empire, all you cared about was healing those who you could. some time after order 66 u got wind of the termination of the jedi, for a moment you let yourself mourn for…. him… anakin, though you wouldn’t let yourself admit it, you always wished your lives would have ended how his mother always said.

you were working out of a small mining system when u saw some storm troopers approaching your camp. you had never had any trouble with the law and weren’t terribly familiar with the new government. all you knew of a ruthless man in a black suit who was ruthless to all who crossed his path. yikes.

you were commissioned to become the new emperor’s apprentice’s personal physician. apparently he had been terribly injured, burns and cybernetic limbs, needing life support to stay alive. you couldn’t really say no so u boarded their craft and set off. they brought you to a planet called mustafar, you had only ever been there once and the heat alone was enough to keep you away. once inside you were brought face to face with THE darth VADER. his mechanical breathing echoing off the halls. the emperor introduced him as HIS apprentice. darth vader was your new patient? you were surprised such a feared man needed the type of care you were entrusted with. after the emperor left you were left with vader in the large room.

he crosses the floor and looks at you for a while. unknowing what to say you just say what a pleasure it is to meet him. he stays silent until he tilts his head “f/n?”. you hadn’t heard that name in what felt like eons. who could have know? everyone who called you that was long gone, who? you looked at the dark lenses and wistfully whispered “ani?” he continued to stare and finally announced “that is no longer my name”. you were so stunned that what he said didn’t register with you. you were so overwhelmed and joyed that he was alive!

smiling you said “i cant believe you’re here! i missed you so much” and went to hug the man. he hesitated and stepped back, opting to lay one of his gloved hands on your shoulder. “i am pleased to hear your thoughts. i too have pondered the past.” reunited once more, vader, under his dark mask felt a sense of relief. you were here and didn’t seem to be applauded by his shift in lifestyle. he felt something inside he hadn’t in a while, hope.

AHHHH i didn’t intend for this to be so long but i have many thoughts….. i’m by no means a writer and i meant for this to be more of a prompt but i may have gone overboard :) if it’s rushed it’s cause i did it between breaks at work LOLLLL, also idk if anyone would b interested in a story like this but if ppl are…. that would b super cool 👀

i really really enjoy the notion that like,, it really was fate for the reader and ani to be together because like THE EMPEROR JUST SO HAPPENED TO PICK YOU out of like everyone in the galaxy like,, 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️ and to have vader remember you!! and i can only imagine just how comforting it would be to him that you hadn't forgotten him, and that you were willing to help him despite everything that he's done. You can definately tell that he still cares for you as well, since he would let you call him ani (and didnt try and kill you knowing that you knew his real idenitity)

👀 : Does your OC believe they are attractive? Do they use that to their advantage?

Virelan does not think she's beautiful, but she does think she's attractive. She doesn't spend a lot of time thinking about herself in that way, and just embodies herself and moves through the world rather than pondering it and her appearance and how she presents to it, if that makes sense? Not a ton of introspection, lots of action.

That being said, she knows that others are attracted to her, so she considers herself attractive. Others like her strength, her bulk, and the sound of her voice, and she picks up on that quickly. She tends to take charge in relationships, so if she perceives that someone finds her attractive, and she wants them, she pursues them — she sets Solas back on his heels after his initial flirtations with her in Haven, for example. I don't think he expected his compliments on her muscles to get anywhere, and was just having a bit of fun feeling like a person! But Virelan did like flustering him, liked that she could fluster him, and had lots of fun with it.

She has a lot of physicality about her so she would linger close to someone she's interested in, touch their shoulder or back while talking, place her hand on the small of their back while passing behind them, that kind of thing. Hand over theirs to show them how to do something, or to take something from them. Sit close at the fire and let their knees touch. Hold eye contact while idk taking a bite from something.

🔥 : What’s a surefire way to make your OC get flustered?

Gosh this one was HARDDDDD I don't know if I've?? considered if Virelan can be flustered lol. She's usually the initiator so someone being overtly flirtatious with her when she welcomes it and wasn't expecting it would work. I do think she was flustered by Solas's compliments in Haven, purely because a) they were smooth, b) unexpected, and c) from Solas, who to her up until that point had seemed like a woo-less dweeb. She also doesn't respond well to compliments, especially when it comes to non-physical traits of hers. She gets overwhelmed and grumbles and brushes them off. But if she really liked the person she'd be blushy and cute too.

feel so so free to ignore this but I saw in your tags you had some IF concepts with Pacific Islander ROs in mind 👀 I am eager for details (on the IFs or the ROs) but no pressure!!!

It's fine. Because they will probably stay concepts forever or become linear stories (because coding intimidates me), but there is a small part of me who dreams.

The first character is gonna gender flippable (even though I dislike that word. Is there another word?): Naomie/Noel -> Naomie Tikaram (F, she/her) and Noel Tikaram (M, he/him). FCs: Veronica Pome’e and Nemani Nadolo.

They're 6'3" and thick, because that is important to me. I don't remember where I said they're from but they're mostly raised from their teen years in an AU!Haiti. Basically the concept of the story is a Haiti that was never charged to pay back France or was never fucked up by America or the UK, etc. And the concept is lowkey Kings (except I haven't seen Kings, yet, so what I imagine Kings is). There's a prophecy, MC is the "chosen one" ... except not. Sorta, yes. They're connected to two other characters, tl;dr it was born of my desire of wanting more IFs that dealt with politics and corruption but in a sorta Shakespearean like vibe (where's my the Borgias IF? Where's my Scandal remake? Where's my kingmaking! Where's my Xanatos speed chess!)

N (haha) would definitely be one of the RO options and definitely the Lionheart to MC's King. To quote a friend, N's vibe was meant to explore a "character born into violence being thrust into the sudden gentleness of love." Even for a MC not romantically interested, the vibe is meant to be platonic life partners. Regardless if whether or not MC liked them, they're MCs guard and the direction of the story/MC would probably be inspiration for N.

A snippet from my ramblings: What Initially Attracted Them to Their Partner?: Salvation. I almost said hope, but differently than Danys. With Danys MC was light, fun, and even brightness. A joy. For N, MC is a saving -- from the mundane, from the past, from a lack of direction. It’s like MC is both a fixation and a fixed point. A part of them was drowning and MC was the hand that stuck in to grasp it.

My second character is from a story more likely to definitely end up linear (mostly because I'm thinking it might actually be more interesting as a regular story/book). Basically, it is magic as a metaphor (the first one is too actually but also will probably have far too much Catholic undertones, soz. Not soz. I did say Kings.) but for growing up when you're in your 30s. So many IFs (and STORIES IN GENERAL) have people in their 20s and 30s and they're TOGETHER. Or if they're not it's ... in a, IDK secluded way? And basically this story is about a bunch of 30 somethings (and one 20 something. And one ancient being), who are figuring out their issues and life and the various ways they've disappointed their families / their families have let them down. And while a couple are successfulTM job wise ... in other ways ....

NEWAYS.

Isaako Malaitai. My trash baby. Isaako is what happens, in short, when you let misconceptions fester. His Character Sketch -> He definitely gets misconception as rough and “dumb”, and I think he plays that up. But he’s actually REALLY clever. And maybe even a businessman (maybe he’s the underestimated son).

In truth, his very clever but people just see him as the party guy. Charming but an asshole/catty. When he actually has more heart to him. (Though the only living person [he has dead parents issues, if I recall right] who knows it - or rather BELIEVES it - at the start of the story is probably his BFF Ariel.) He’s either gonna be the “bad guy” or a decoy to the actual bad guy (who I’m pondering is being his sibling. Basically MC inherits a B&B that’s connected to this magical hot spot, and it draws all the characters to it. Most of them are non-human, but I don’t know if they know it yet.)

Anyway, Isaako is partially Samoan and fc is Roman Reigns (but suited up Roman).

Hope this were satisfactory details! But I’m starting to nod off.

Oh, don't you worry! Honestly you've just sent the 👀 emoji & I would've known to tell you more!

You know what? You're getting the whole timeline of Barmey joining the polycule to begin with!

Before Barmey even was considered as part of the polycule, he basically got grabbed by the back of his gamer tee by Beauty and dragged along for some "You need to learn people's boundaries, sweetheart. :)". Him being included very much all depended on Mind being comfortable enough to have the man nearby. That said, Mind already felt very safe, as Eddie, Gorgeous & Beauty would not let Barmey revert to the behavior that made Mind not like the man to begin with. Plus, they would toss Barmey literally out the door if something happened again.

Still… Barmey, similar to Mind, never had people around before him who would tell him off on certain behavior. With Barmey it turned out to be very much a case of him not knowing any better. While that's no excuse for the shit he had pulled, it explained a lot about him.

So, over time, he got included in things like hangouts around the base. First with the Calhouns (+ Eddie), and when Beauty and Eddie were 100% sure he was enlightened to normal behavior, Mind agreed to have Barmey around for their casual hangouts or even movie nights.

One of the many things they did on those nights were/are watching chick flicks… very much with the intention to point out to both Barmey & Mind "You see that behavior? Don't do that" - which also sometimes lead to Mind & Barmey pointing at each other that the other has done a similar thing before. But it was and still is a way of them to learn and grow from their past behavior.

Now Gorgeous warmed up to Barmey fast due to a few things. One, when he offhandedly mentioned his love for the original MLP series in a conversion, Barmey went OFF with an excited infodump on the franchise & how he NEEDS to show Gorgeous the newer show and movies! Which then lead to both of them infodumping about this special interest to each other with the other 'cule members listening with soft smiles.

Gorgeous was the first to bring up to Barmey that he might be autistic… because, well, Gorgeous is & Barmey very much is showing signs as well, now that he's not putting up a fake mask & pretending to be tougher than he actually is.

Barmey, just like Mind, was quick to brush it off… but in his case he actually considered it quickly and let Gorgeous tell him more about it. He doesn't think much about labels, but now he's just "Yeah, could be!" about it. He's just very happy that Gorgeous gets him and they often have a back and fourth about their special interests & hyperfixations!

Adding to this… Barmey was reluctant about the 'cule on the topic of intimacy. He timidly admitted to all of them one night in the cuddle pile that he was a virgin - something his still gamer guy branded brain put importance on - and very much fearing rejection.

Everyone assured him that that is nothing to worry about & Gorgeous specifically took the time to ask if sexual intimacy even is something Barmey wants.

Talking to Gorgeous comes easy to Barmey at that point & he tells him and the others that in general he doesn't think about sex until someone brings it up. Plus he gets distracted a lot during it & that put off people before. Additionally all that only comes up when he's in love with someone… so it's rare anyway.

It's weird to Barmey to learn through Gorgeous about the concept of demisexuality… but once again it's something he ponders over. Gorgeous also informs him that he'd be under the ace umbrella with him (Gorgeous is grey-ace) , so he's not alone in this at base.

In general, Barmey and Gorgeous are simply incredibly comfortable with each other due everything I mentioned before. Barmey is not a judgemental person, plus he also loves the cute things in life - both very important things to Gorgeous. In turn, Gorgeous is very patient with Barmey and doesn't mind it at all when the man looses his train of thought.

Also, Barmey has some health issues that come up sometimes (an array of allergies, low energy levels, asthma), so he actually has an "excuse" to make Gorgeous take breaks with him. Honestly that goes for anyone in the 'cule, but Gorgeous is the least reluctant to stop what he's doing and just relax.

In turn, Gorgeous knows at this point how to work with Barmey's low energy & to get him out of bed on bad days. All of the cule members do, but Gorgeous just has a very sweet way to coax him to let him pick him up and carry him off to help with a shower.

Also, these two looooove old and new anime - though Gorgeous rolls his eyes at Barmey's vast hentai knowledge - but he accepts & respects it) and they will go to anime conventions together.

Gorgeous was reluctant to go a brony convention at first, but Barmey natural way of having no shame and just being really excited to spend a whole weekend with Gorgeous melted the anxiety away.
