Aizoaceae (ice plant)
There are over 1,800 species of ice plants and 96% of them are native to the ‘Succulent Karoo’. The Succulent Karoo is an ecosystem which stretches along the coastal strip of southwestern Namibia and South Africa's, Northern Cape province. Not only is it the center of diversity for ice plants but it hosts almost 40% of the approximately 10,000 species of succulent plants found world-wide.
Ice plants prefer semiarid conditions but they do surprisingly well, growing outdoors in Vancouver gardens. Evidently, I’m not the only one who enjoys ice plants. The local electric company has decided to decorate this switcher box with an ice plant as some sort of clever disguise.

This is colder than anything. It's ice plant. Where they make the ice that goes into your fridge. These days of the internet, the ice is made centrally, then scent out via the interwebs to your house, where your online fridge converts it back into ice with the addition of a modicum of water.

Well, I got Shiho a new dress and so here she is. It looks a bit too summery, I'll admit but she got a new dress.

🔎 ABOUT THIS PROJECT
===============================
On a stunning 15 km stretch of Portuguese coast two special cliff plants found nowhere else on earth are facing extinction. The main threat comes from a dominating invasive species carpeting the cliff called the ‘ice plant’. Access to the sheer cliff faces poses a challenge for their conservation. This is why we’ve gathered local rock climbers and cavers, passionate about local biodiversity, to remove the invasive ice plant. We’re also using drone technology to document changes to the vegetation. Protecting these precious plants not only reduces biodiversity loss but treasures nature in all its glorious forms.
