[scrolling down dash] nice post--oh the third reply is the person who told me i'm probably a violent bully who would've beaten them to death in high school because I said "reactionary ideology contributes to school shootings"
dear kate, as someone who wasn't watching the sport back then I'm very curious about what happened in russia 2018 (re your tags on that post)?
it's lore. Daniel/Christian lore. horrible, awful, multifaceted human lore. when you watch a little thing, just an awful real moment and it reminds you that people are unfortunately complex and love is prideful, and sometimes love is selfish and love manifests differently in different people.
Russia 2018 was Max's birthday, Red Bull got a marching band and mimes to welcome Max into the paddock, it was a v elaborate and uncomfortable affair for everyone involved, and there was a cake cutting ceremony once Max walked the length of the paddock where the rest of the team were waiting for him.
Mind you, this was at the END of September, Daniel announced his departure from Red Bull at the very beginning of August, so it had already been almost 2 months of Christian calling Daniel stupid, and a girl, and that he took the easy way out but also Christians time during the sessions up until then was split equally in Daniel's garage and Max's but after that for a while it was the pitwall or Max's side.
Anyway back to Max's uncomfortable birthday, Daniel was also there but he didn't stand with Helmut and Christian at the front, he was uncharacteristically stood away from them, and away from the cameras. Daniel is usually front and centre during moments like these but I think it was a combination of how insanely uncomfortable the whole mime/marching band combo is and also the fact that he was no longer really 'part' of the team. Christian had already said Daniel will not be involved in the remaining development of the car effective immediately.
The official video that Red Bull posted(still up on yt) didn't really show it but Christian was the most uncomfortable/annoyed by the whole thing, more so than Max somehow lol
In the unofficial janky live stream of the whole thing however Christian kept turning back to Daniel who was behind everyone and it was very much an 'oh.' gut punch moment because it's just a real little human interaction of turning to someone you know/trust/relate to. And I just remember thinking that's like the first bit of normalcy we've seen from them since the torrid separation
Anyway really the most devastating part is from the janky live stream, one of the times Christian bodily turns to Daniel (twice) to catch his eye, Daniel kinda just laughs and tells him "you're not dancing" to which Christian replies by actually dancing for a second
this janky clip from a janky stream was a formative moment
Under the fireworks brightly dyeing the night sky, Han Sooyoung's chilly, sharp dagger gleamed dangerously.
"You, just who the hell are you?”
Hugtober Day 9/9 - Can You Really Call This a Hug, I Didn’t Receive Physical Affection or Anything
[ID: A piece of digital fanart depicting Han Sooyoung and Kim Dokja from Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint. Han Sooyoung is dressed in a purple jacket, dark grey t-shirt, and a pair of black sweatpants and shoes. She kneels in the grass and pins Kim Dokja to the ground with her right hand, holding her dagger aloft in her left as the colorful lights of the fireworks light her figure from behind. Her hair is disheveled as she glares down at him, baring her teeth, though her ferocious expression betrays the faintest glimmer of fear. Kim Dokja, meanwhile, is sprawled flat on the grass, reflexively throwing his arms over his face. His legs kick up into the air by the force of Han Sooyoung’s initial tackle. He is dressed in his signature white coat, black button-up and slacks, and black shoes, which are partly lit up from the light of the fireworks. /end ID ]

I simply cannot find it in my heart to ever believe even slightly that Maglor and Maedhros would have ever countenanced Elrond and Elros thinking poorly of Elwing and Earendil
I just- Maglor in my mind would have sat them down and so gently explained that their mommy and daddy loved them very much but couldn’t be with them because of- “of... difficult circumstances. Bad things.”
And when the twins grew older and Maedhros noticed the hostages and his brother growing too close, he would have snapped and snarled, “We drove her off a cliff, your true mother, stole you from your father, they loved you, they loved you”
and the twins ignore him because they know he’s not really scary and maybe resentment to Elwing and Earendil it their version of rebellion- we love you, we love you, you’re here, we love you- but Maglor and Maedhros just won’t let them
Beg the twins to see all sides, tell them all the horrible things they did, would rather choke that see them blame Elwing for anything, and its so weird and complicated and unsimple and as adolescents Elrond and Elros /crave/ simple- why can’t it just be one or the other? let it be one or the other- but Maedhros and Maglor make sure they see how fucked up it all is
A bad word of Elwing and Earendil will not be spoken of in their presence, and when they’re older, Elrond and Elros are glad that their captors- their fathers- made them see beyond their fear and pain rather than fall into bitterness.
He hears the drums in Impel Down first, weak from poison and dying, but he pays them no mind because Bon-chan is there and he needs no other rescue.
He hears them again when he drops from the sky, but Ace is kneeling and chained and about to be executed, so the drumbeat slowly fades into the background as he advances across the battlefield.
The weird golden guy crashes a fist against him, and the drums get so loud that they muffle the rest of the battle, but then the fist is gone and Ace is there and free, so Luffy runs and forgets about them completely.
Then Ace turns back. And all Luffy can hear is drums, beating da-dum, da-dum, da-dum through his blood.
Everything is slow and funny. Luffy is kneeling on the ground, and the angry magma guy is coming closer and closer and closer and Ace is screaming and –
Everything is so slow and everyone moves as if through molasses – hmm, yummy, should tell Sanji to make some later – and Luffy can see where Ace is going and he can see where he will end up and Luffy doesn’t –
Magma guy is really close now, and Jimbei is far away, and Ace is here and he will –
Luffy doesn’t like it. Luffy should do something about it.
Except he can’t. Except he’s too slow and too weak and his crew is far away so they can’t even help him by doing what he can’t do. Except that Ace will protect him either way, because Ace doesn’t think he’s important. Except that the magma guy is strong and Luffy is weak and tired and about to fall asleep and –
Ace steps in front of Luffy.
Da-dum, goes Luffy’s heart and everything is suddenly clear and bright and wonderful. Da-dum, and Luffy’s arm moves when he tells it to, moves funny and quick and Luffy can finally do something. Da-dum, and Luffy pushes Ace aside and Ace bounces against the ground like Luffy always does and the magma fist reaches Luffy.
Luffy can hear Ace screaming, but it doesn’t hurt, not really, because Luffy bends and smushes his body together and the fist goes through but does not hurt anything and Luffy is laughing, loud and free.
Everyone stops and stares, and that’s funny too. Luffy laughs harder, shishishi echoing in the silence.
And then the seagull-hat guy goes white and shouts, “Forget about Firefist! Stop Strawhat! Stop Strawhat Luffy right now!” And then a lot of people are running towards Luffy, and the magma guy starts moving again, and Luffy is free but Luffy is also tired and he doesn’t know how long this is going to last.
It’s still funny, though, when he bends backwards, and the magma guy’s fist flies over his head, and when Luffy kicks him in the leg and his leg bends like rubber too, even though he’s magma. And then the other Marines come, but they come with swords because guns don’t work on Luffy and they slash and slash and slash, but their swords suddenly bounce against each other, and flop to the ground when Luffy touches them as if they’re no longer metal, and melt together when Luffy ties two of them in a bow and then slingshots it with his bazooka at the nearest group of Marines.
And then Ace is there, crying and shouting, but moving against Luffy’s back exactly like when they were little and Luffy doesn’t even need to look to know where he is. And then Jimbei comes, enraged and snarling, barreling through the Marines as fast as he can, falling into place in a gap that Ace and Luffy always leave between them, even after all these years. Luffy doesn’t say anything, because Jimbei is helping and he’s glad but –
And the magma guy comes again, but Ace tugs him away and Jimbei guards his back and more and more people come over, pirates and Marines and Revolutionaries, and then they’re running towards the sea and Luffy laughs. He takes Jimbei and Ace by their hands and they go faster and faster, bouncing against the springy stone as people dive out of their way, and Ace is shouting and Jimbei talking, but Luffy laughs and laughs and laughs.
This is going to be hard to find so, to anyone else who was on James Somerton's Patreon until last night, can anyone help me find out the sources of his Revolutionary Girl Utena video? I really enjoyed that and I'd like to give whoever he got it from some love.
sometimes, i'll knit something super ugly, and i mean like really ugly just to get rid of scrap yarn, yknow? and i kind of worry no one will find any use for it but then it's like, no, statistically, someone will make use of it. there's so many people with so many different tastes in style that it feels virtually impossible for this thing that im making not to fall into the right hands. my theatre prof gave me a bag full of yarn that she wasn't using anymore and in the bag there was the start of, what i found to be, the worst scarf i've ever seen, and i unraveled it and organized all the yarn and i thought it would be funny to knit all her yarn into one big giant long scarf. wouldn't you know, the scarf is ugly, and i started to get worried again that no one would like it, but then i remember that the yarn was going to be made into something not conventionally fashionable anyways, except it wasn't unconventional because my professor was using that yarn anyways before giving it to me. she liked it. my point is, you should be allowed to make stuff for the sake of making stuff and getting pride out of the thing that you made because you know that it has to be cool for someone else, and you made it. you can take pride in knowing you made this really cool thing for someone you might not even know.
