SO! I’ve been thinking about how Zagreus, a literal god, trained fighter under Achilles, has to fight through each region of the underworld, powered by the Olympians and ancient Titan-slaying weapons, dying multiple times, before he is able to reach the surface. And Orpheus, dude who has never held a sword in his life, just walked right in and out with only his lyre and his falsetto. I’ve been thinking about that so here’s a fic from the prospective of Thanatos about it:
disclaimer: I have no idea what the underworld timeline looks like so we are shooting pinball with the ages of the gods here
Thanatos was but a godling when the Orpheus debacle happened. Queen Persephone was with child, attempting to grow a new plant in the garden, when they all heard the singing. This was the first Thanatos himself had heard of it, although Mother Nyx and Lord Hades did not seem alarmed. Specifically, Mother Nyx did not look surprised, but instead, impressed. Lord Hades was enraged. He stood up dramatically, slamming his hands on his desk. Thanatos had been speaking to Mother Nyx about his future duties, the young god had recently found his calling and would soon be working among his older brother Charon and the young Olympian Hermes helping souls to their final resting home.
Speaking of, Lord Hades was working on attempting to gain communication with the god of messengers.
An orange orb appeared in the air, as a quick voice emerged, echoing around the house.
“Hey there, boss, you called?”
Lord Hades’ voice bellowed, trying to be heard over the distant plucking of a lyre. “Have you yet found out who exactly has infiltrated my realm?”
“About that, you see, that’s gonna be Orpheus, son of a Muse, you know those.”
“Why is he here? How did he get so far? I can hear that obnoxious lyre from my desk.”
Hermes tsked. “Well, that’s not a question for me, boss. That’s a question for your security system.”
“My security system is in ORDER! I would have heard if he had killed even one of my wretches.”
“Guess he’s not killing them then, huh? Anyway, good luck, keep me updated, gotta dash.”
The orange orb zapped out and the presence of Olympus left the chamber.
“Agh!” Hades pressed his fingers on his forehead. In a low voice, he called for Nyx.
Mother Nyx carted a hand through Thanatos’s hair to calm him before she rose to speak to Lord Hades.
Thanatos stood up and began walking towards the garden. Hypnos was standing at the doorway of the garden, peering out.
“What are you doing?” Thanatos asked.
“You know, just waiting for the Muse’s kid to get here.”
“He cannot. No one alive can enter the underworld, much less the House. The wretches will stop him.”
Hypnos grinned. “He’s gotten through both Elysium and Asphodel. Tartarus is probably a cakewalk, who knows when’s the last time those shades have heard music?”
“You think he is getting through just with his singing?” Thanatos looked through the doorway. Queen Persephone was no longer tending her garden. Instead, she was simply standing and looking, waiting.
“I can tell that some of the shades out there--they’re sleeping.” Hypnos wrapped himself in his blanket. He said it nonchalantly, as if sleeping shades was a common incident when, on the contrary, it should have been impossible.
Thanatos hovered closer to his twin, whispering harshly: “Don’t you think you should do something about that? Can’t you wake them up or something?”
Hypnos yawned. “I’m Sleep Incarnate, brother. ‘Waking up’ isn’t really my domain.”
Even if it had been, it would have been for naught. A melody erupted from the garden and the twins barely moved out of the way as all the shades in the House burst out the door in a green river of souls. The eruption, followed by a shout of anger from Lord Hades himself, was matched with the appearance of a young man, surrounded adoringly by shades, walking into the garden.
In his short trips to and from the surface, he had heard music but nothing quite like this. This was a melody that seemed to be aimed directly to his heart, his heart, as if it was sung just for him. Hypnos beside him seemed as close to wide awake as he’d ever been, as the two godlings peered out to the garden.
The musician, Orpheus, continued his descent through the garden. Queen Persephone held a dark purple plant to her chest and stepped aside, allowing him entry. She stood still for a moment, and then threw down her flower and ran ahead of Orpheus, past the twins, and to the desk of Lord Hades.
As Orpheus and his parade of shades entered the House, Thanatos watched Queen Persephone take Lord Hades’ hands in hers and whisper a plea.
The professional plucking of the lyre echoed and bounced around the chambers, drawing out shades. The House had never felt like this before, everyone kept to themselves and milled in silence. Even the announcement of the pregnancy of the Queen hadn’t held such a communicable celebration. The arrival of Orpheus drew in everyone. Thanatos could see even Sir Achilles swaying on his feet, debating to leave his post to get closer to the music.
Mother Nyx appeared behind her sons, resting a hand on each of their heads.
“Mother, what will happen to him?” Thanatos asked.
“I believe the Queen is attempting to sway Lord Hades’ anger of the musician’s trespassing, my son.”
“But he must be punished,” Thanatos said, finding sorrow in his tone.
“Yes, my child. But we do not yet know the extent of his crime. The Queen wishes for him to, at the least, be heard.”
Thanatos believed Orpheus was already, clearly, being heard. Mother Nyx remained with the twins as the scene unfolded before them.
As bold as his actions had been and as long as his journey, Orpheus seemed nervous. He arrived before Lord Hades’ desk. The God of the Dead was standing tall, one hand curled in a large fist, slammed down on a pile of parchment-work. The other was gentle, as Queen Persephone was clutching it.
Instead of immediately striking down, sending the man’s soul flailing hopelessly towards Tartarus, Lord Hades said: “Do tell, what has prompted you to defy my power and waltz into my home?”
Orpheus’s song stopped and Thanatos could have wept due to the sudden silence (some shades did). His hands shook as he held his lyre close. “My lord, I-I did not mean disrespect to you and your House, or-or, to the Queen. Quite simply, my muse, my love, my Eurydice, had fallen to unkindly fate which led her here. And, well, I do intend to be taking her home with me.”
Lord Hades laughed starkly at that. “Ah, I see. Not only do you break into my home but you expect to leave with another soul? A soul that rightfully belongs here? Have you any idea who you speak to?”
“Uh, I believe you are Lord Hades?”
“That--why you--”
Lord Hades paused and leaned down to the Queen Persephone, who spoke quickly and quietly. A hand rested on her stomach and the god’s expression softened.
A heavy sigh blew around the chamber. Lord Hades sat down in his chair. The Queen found a seat as well. He said, “Well then. Go on.”
“I’m sorry, my lord?” Orpheus, as well as Thanatos, seemed surprised.
“If your intentions are of that--of love--well, I will need you to convince me. How do I know this is not a ploy? How do I know you did not come here in malice against me and my family?”
Orpheus brought a smile to his face. “I-I see, my lord. I have a song, if you’d be willing, that will assure you my true intentions.”
Lord Hades nodded. Queen Persephone smiled and leaned forward, as if she was preparing to soak in the moment, savoring every note of the lyre and utterance of the man.
Orpheus began to sing a love song. It began light and happy and adoring. Thanatos did not need to process the words for the feeling of it was enough to be understood. Mother Nyx gently pushed on his back and allowed them to move forward.
Thanatos and Hypnos didn’t need more encouragement. Without much thought, the twins broke their endless hover and walked, feet on cold tile, to sit at Orpheus’s feet and listen. Amongst them were all of the shades, gathered around, emerging out of the lounge and administration chamber. Cerberus rested all three heads on the ground, puppy eyes pondering Orpheus. Achilles did not give breaking his post a second thought, and walked over to be closer, leaning with his head against the wall, closing his eyes tightly, as if trying to imagine himself somewhere different.
The end of the song came too quickly and too sorrowfully. Contrary to the beginning, the ending was of grief and mourning, of loss and the extent one will go to lay eyes on their lover again.
At the last note, it seemed like a spell had been broken, releasing the House from the song. Thanatos did not realize how much time had passed, but felt in renewed spirits. He wished to thank Orpheus, but instead rose again, grabbing the hand of his twin, who had curled in his quilt, yawning.
Thanatos returned to Mother Nyx who was watching Lord Hades at his desk, wiping his eyes and furrowing his brow. Thinking of what would come next.
But they all remembered how it went.
Time later, the Queen left and returned, both times due to her son, Zagreus. Orpheus was back and singing once again. Zagreus found Thanatos peering over the River Styx.
“Hey, Than!” Zagreus had just returned from another run, ransacking the underworld. Of course, Thanatos had lent a hand, but that wasn’t something that needed to be announced. It had taken Thanatos time to justify his actions. Especially before it was Zagreus’s duty to do so, back when Thanatos thought that everytime he helped, he was only assisting in Zagreus leaving him.
“Hello, Zagreus.”
“Did you hear? I was able to lift Orpheus’s punishment, he can visit Asophel to see his muse whenever he’d like.”
“That’s great, Zag. I’m sure he appreciated that very much.”
“I sure hope so, it cost me a couple diamonds. I suppose I’ll just get more from Lernie. Actually, I came to ask, weren’t you there? When Orpheus first came through?”
“Yes, I was,” the song Orpheus had sang was a low hum in the back of his mind ever since, “but I was quite young.”
“I see. I can’t stop thinking about it, you know? Everyday or night, I nearly die trying to get out of here, and that’s with help from a lot of gods. And he just walked through. I doubt he fought.”
“No, he did not. He just sang.”
“I’ll have to give it to him. He made it look easy--the getting in part, at least,” Zagreus smiled. The song, that damn song, seemed to play louder Thanatos’s head. What were the words of it? Did it matter? Why was it louder now, but less clear?
Zagreus was talking, asking him a question: “So, do you think you would?”
“What?”
“Look back. If you had been Orpheus, would you have looked back?”
“Oh, well. I don’t know.”
“Me neither. Seems like a pretty simple task with a high reward, don’t you think?”
Thanatos nodded. Seemed so. Then again, sometimes things that seem so simple prove to be the most difficult.
“Alright, I need to trade in some fish, thanks for the help back there?”
“Of course,” Thanatos said as he watched Zagreus trot off, waving to Achilles on the way.
He, he thinks, understands. He knows, actually. If it was Zagreus behind him, he would have to turn back.
He would have to know. Could he be faulted for that?

One of the things I love about HADESTOWN!Hades and Persephone is 1) how important they are to the story by way of world building and 2) how much of an inversion they are from the usual PersepHades adaptations.
In most reinventions of the original Greek mythology, Persephone and Hades’s love is supposed to be problematic but only at the start of their marriage - after which they get made into this perfect goth couple by sappy lonely artists (like me!). Personally, I think it says more about the nature of love in Greek mythology that the kidnapped child bride and her goth uncle have one of the ‘healthier’ relationships anyone can speak of, mostly because they aren’t trying to kill each other and stay mostly faithful.
In HADESTOWN, there’s no mention of a kidnapping. There’s barely even mention of Demeter. “Epic I”’s lyrics say “he [Hades] took her home” and “the lady [Persephone] loved him and the kingdom they shared". Combine that with what Percy says in “Chant II” and it sounds like Hades came up one day, fell in love, proposed, and she instantly took him up on that offer. They seemed pretty happy! They didn’t start out dysfunction they became dysfunctional. And that’s because another theme in HADESTOWN is how perfectly happy couples can turn on each other for reasons in and out of their control.  it asks just how much a six-month-long separation can damage a relationship like it has Persephone and Hades; she had her life but couldn’t share it with him while he had to make one for himself just to take his mind off her and now he refuses to let her live her own life again, thus causing all their problems. All the love in the world can’t shake the fear of abandonment that the Fates feed into which of course affects Hades -- but also Eurydice during the first act when she thinks Orpheus’s love of her is just a passing faze and later Orpheus after he’s been explicitly told that his fiance purposefully left+cheated on him. HT also dissects the opposites attract nature of both couples:
Orpheus and Percy come from backgrounds where they’ve always had enough (Persephone’s bg doesn’t tell us much, but Orpheus was adopted by Hermes; he probably isn’t used to surviving like Eurydice cuz papaHermes always comes for him in the end thus not really grasping how isolated Eurydice is) and are natural optimists.
Hades and Eurydice think themselves realistic when they’re actually pessimists and have been taught selfishness as a means of survival.
It's their opposites that attract the other and leads to their happiness+sadness. And really, I think that’s where the tragedy of the show hits hard: In mythology Orpheus’ turn is just hubris as anyone could either not look behind them when they’re told not to or do so out of common sense. In HADESTOWN, it’s tragic because Eurydice has her faith in life and her bo restored at last, all the while he’s having his trust in her chipped away. Ultimately him seeing her that last time is confirms that his doubts were wrong -and now it’s too late !
The quasi silver-lining/cruel twist being that Hades and Persephone, the couple who you’d think would be beyond help get another chance (tbf, if they don’t the world’s gonna die so there’s that) where Orpheus and Eurydice could have totally overcome their issues had they made it, but they didn’t.
I worry sometimes that tumblr users will freak out and think “HADESTOWN condones staying with your abusive partner because blahblahbah” but NO!- that’s not what I’m saying and that’s not what the show is either!!!
Hades and Persephone’s already-messed-up-by-the-time-the-story-starts-marriage being resolved is a glimmer of hope for the planet as the trueness of that love surviving even after all the turmoil in some new form is a testament to that theme of where that dysfunction comes from. More importantly, how and what you need to do to escape it! I kinda think that says more about the relationship than the “they had a rocky start but now they’re next to perfect goff love” that some PersepHades stories push.

new Hadestown au, ICARUS!ORPHEUS, wherein orpheus is not the world’s greatest musician but rather the world’s greatest inventor/mechanic/tinkerer. his creations are wondrous and beautiful and a miracle. Orpheus his mission is to create something that will repair the world--take what’s broken, make it whole.
Orpheus is still very much an artist--only his art in this AU is visual instead of auditory. and he’s still poor! not everything he makes is immediately useful for survival and y’know, hardly anyone has the money to buy things, and he has a propensity to just. give things away, especially the smaller trinkets he makes. and they take a Long Time to make. so he still works at hermes’ bar
SO!!!
this orpheus is body pain solidarity KDSKFJH
he has a fucked up back from all the heavy lifting he does around the workshop, being hunched over while he works on stuff, and being stuck in weird positions for extended periods of time when he’s working on machines and whatever, especially the bigger ones
also he’s got a wrist brace
he has a set of gear he wears a lot especially when he’s in his workshop
1) his wing pack! he built it himself and he’s proud. the pack was also made to help with his back problems. he doesn’t wear his mechanic gear when he’s working at the bar, but sometimes he’ll leave the wings on because back hurty. also, following w icarus, the wings are kept smooth & together and waterproofed w wax, kinda like a gloss. he reapplies every so often
2) his goggles! every part about the design is impractical (the red lenses and the beak) but i like them. they protect his eyes from flying bits and sparks and sawdust etc. when he’s working and wind when he’s flying
3) his boots! they’re sturdy workin’ boots, and have a talon function to clasp onto and lift things up. especially useful for moving bigger things around the workshop, up to higher levels and what have you, and he gets to flit around the whole space with minimal usage of ladders. (yes, they’re inspired by Vulture’s boots from Spider-Man: Homecoming)
(ALSO. the model of his wings are white crow wings, bc of the myth of Coronis)
because in greek mythology, crows started out white and had beautiful voices and the reason they turned black and got croaky calls is because a crow had to tell Apollo that his lover, Coronis, left him to marry a mortal
and Apollo got so upset he burned the crow and then burned Coronis to death, or burned the crow and then turned Coronis into a crow, depending on the version
(thanks to @princessponies81 for helping me figure this bit out)
so there are some... parallels here
also, IIRC crow wings are elliptical-type wings, meaning they’re good for a lot of control and maneuverability in tight spaces. good for the workshop
also he makes automata too! he has this little mockingbird to help him around the workshop. lots of calls for lots of signals, like how a car will have diff beep signals for low gas or parking brake on or door left open or key left in etc... little bird can measure and alert for lots of things
he’s also less noodle-y than canon orpheus because of how much he uses his arms and legs doing lifting, work, and flying
he’s not like. Built or anything. but hes got some strength to him
he doesn’t just make really good machines either; he’s absolutely as skilled in fine, delicate things as much as the big pieces—he sees the details himself, has to make it himself, he’s as skilled in silversmithy or goldsmithy as he is in mechanics, and i imagine he has skills in metallurgy too. maybe even a bit of glassblowing? just for piece assembly. all his pieces will fit most perfectly if he makes them himself
things like the Silver Swan automaton (i’d link a video but external links are illegal on tumblr)
also... i don’t know if they manage to get married this time, but they at least get the wedding bands
lover, tell me, if you can--who’s gonna make the wedding bands?
@supercantaloupe: the river gonna give us the wedding bands -- he draws the mineral, the stones from the silt, and crafts them himself
SO, he charms eurydice with one (or many) of his dazzling creations that also have usages in practicality and survival
as is the youzhe, she leaves when he gets to obsessive with working on something, holed up in his workshop instead of like. Surviving the winter
they last longer into the winter this time though because again, he does have a couple of machines good for tiding over the winter and surviving, and eurydice can operate them. but he’s too caught up with creating something to fix the world to repair them when they break down
when he leaves, he leaves his mockingbird to take care of his workshop while he’s gone. make sure there’s not leaks or fires, etc., keep everything in working order
the trip to hadestown still takes a long time, but less time than in canon, given that orpheus gets there on a pair of wings, though he gets grounded plenty of times due to bad weather. plus, his wings aren’t really meant for long-distance
so in the end the time still matches up; the events underground still happen on the onset of proper spring
he sails over the wall of the Styx on his wings, but it’s a feat easier said than done; it really is high and wide, just... hundreds of feet tall, and i headcanon that the “wall” is in fact seven layers of fortification because some myths say the River Styx wraps around the underworld seven times
and he is not a high altitude flier
uhhhhhhhhh blah blah something something ... i’m not clear on all the details but here are a few things:
orpheus gets the shit kicked out of him in Papers as usual and the fates hold his wings over him instead of his guitar
i have no idea how If It’s True goes
SOMEWHERE there’s Hey Little Songbird II (thank you to @supercantaloupe for authoring this idea);
it's Hades to Orpheus this time. Ironic, as he sings and flies, a real songbird.
and orpheus, that inspired inventor, that mechanic, that engineer, blessed by Hephaestus himself, being tempted to stay. It's a marvel of engineering, those factories. But they're rough around the edges, dirty, inefficient, unrefined. Imagine all the work he could do. Imagine how grand it would be, with just his help. And imagine how much fun it would be to fix it all!
but since he's fallen in love - and lost her once already - he has to pause and think. it's too good to be true, isn't it? Is it true? Can he really stay here forever, with parts and tools and endless projects worthy of his skill and attention - at least, without her?
ok back to me writing stuffs
there is no Epic I / Epic II / Epic III; the titles are now Trial I / Trial II / Trial III, like trial runs of prototypes, and on the third one it has a double meaning as a trial of judgement
Trial III goes as such:
(and thank you to @ferretteeth for this)
Hades orders him to build.  An impressive invention in turn for his life – a chance he gives only because his wife is smitten with interest.
Orpheus gets three days and no more, and when he is finally ordered to come before the throne of basalt and steel he brings his invention. And Hades gives a curt, mocking laugh, because all Orpheus has in his hands is a simple box of bronze, cheap and adorably human.
He almost orders for Orpheus' death the moment he sees it, but then the boy lifts the lid and reveals a mechanical flower. Petals made out of metal rusted rosy, nectar of flecks of fool's gold.
Delicate and beautiful; extremely finely spun, as if the metal were only woven fibers. It is as soft as any silk.
"Where did you get that," the king snaps in a hurry. "How did you know–"
And then, with the twist of a key, the invention reveals to be a music box and long lost chords fill the Underworld.
(i originally had the idea that he builds a planetarium that replicates the summer above, a caught snippet of the thing that hades could never make on a large scale. a beautiful thing with flowers that blossomed and played the old song as hades brushed his hands across them, sun above. but i figured it’s probably more in line with the sensibilities of Hadestown if orpheus had created something less... grand)
so eurydice and orpheus are granted their chance to leave.
i’m not sure what the test is, because he’s got to fly out with eurydice clutched in his talons, and i want him to be as much a victim of his doubt as in canon
but he has to follow this flight path with absolute perfection, down to the flap. you fly too high, the flames of hadestown will catch him. he flies too low, the flames of hadestown will catch her.
i think, in his paranoia, he flies too high, and his wings catch fire
his wings are on fire--his arms are strapped in to them. he’s burning up. he’s burning.
he’s slowing down in his ascent. in a moment, he knows that if they’re going to make it, it’ll only be one of them, and... he’s not going to drop eurydice. he can’t do that to her.
when his wings can no longer climb, he throws her the final distance to the surface. she turns around and reaches desperately for him, but he’s too far away.
he falls. a comet.
he breaks.
Tumblr media
the fact is, he dies
but he dies in hadestown. so now he’s just... well, one, no chance of going back aboveground. two, now he’s... sitting at the bottom of that long climb, broken and in pain, surrounded by the charred skeleton of his wings, broken and burned feathers, drips of melted oil and wax, and blood
he’s... there for a long time, just suffering, before someone comes to see if they made it out, and finds him at the bottom
hades sees this as an opportunity to bring him back, let him heal, and put him onto projects, perhaps “to get your mind off of it all,” but. orpheus doesn’t want to work. he doesn’t want to do anything
thanks to supercanteloupe again for co-authoring this section:
Hades says he'll squander his god given talents to just sit around all day but Orpheus won't listen
hades has just zero fucking clue how to deal with a depressed human
"have I not given him all he could want, metal, tools, a workbench? Bed, bread, fire? Strength in his bones? And yet he refuses still? The boy must be mad," he cries, angry
@s-aint-elmo: "i got a new mechanist"
“you ruined a perfectly good talented young man is what you did. look at him, he's got depression"
persephone herself is a mess (less so after Trial III) but she has at least some sense—she is more in touch with mortals than him, spending time with them up on the surface and throwing revels, but also greeting those who lost their lovers/sisters/brothers/mothers/fathers in the winter before
persephone encouraging orpheus to build, not for her sake or for Hades', but for his own. little flowers, little birds, wind up toys and music boxes. something to keep him going
s-aint-elmo: she brings him pressed flowers from the surface, little trinkets, tokens of the green. orpheus only lets the first few wilt and rot at the corner of his table.
flowers bloom until they rot and fall apart
it's a sad, painful reminder
he eventually has the resolve to rebuild his wing pack—better this time, because really, he feels crippled without them after living w em for so long
edit: (and the feathers are black, a la the crow myth)
when hades first sees him like, passing by w wings on his back, he turns to persephone like “what have you been saying to him?” “only what he needs to hear, husband”
he has a great fear of actually getting off the ground at first, though
he’ll perch at the edge of a rooftop, but... doesn’t move. it’s a leap of faith he doesn’t feel like he can take
he always saw air as just a medium to move through, that it would support him, as easy as swimming
now he sees straight through it to the ground
he has burn scars across the entire back of his arms, hands, and fingers
it’s a reminder every time he gets to working
rough patchy skin. calloused fingers from work
big sigh
eurydice goes home.
there is the empty shell of his workshop. his many machines and trinkets and tools and his hundreds of unfinisheds and thousands of scraps of plans, and… his bird left to care for the shop after god knows how many weeks or months.
it flies down and greets her, some string of whistles and beeps she only half understands. then it asks for orpheus
she tells it that he fell; he’s not coming back, it’s too late
the bird sticks by her from there on out, the last “living” remnant of her lover, besides his shell of a workshop
ok i haven’t thought farther than this, please have fun with this au i think it’s a new favorite alongside Unswayed AU & Apartments AU

Diploma
After 5 years, Eurydice gets to graduate. And there are some familiar faces in the crowd and on the stage.
----
“Eurydice, how long until you’re ready to go?” Orpheus asked, from his place on the floor. He was sat with his guitar in his lap, absently plucking chords to fill the quiet of the room. He leaned against the wall next to the door, sitting across from Eurydice, who was using the mirror to adjust her makeup. Getting ready for him was a breeze; He simply slid on a shirt and a jacket and was ready to go. Eurydice was a different story.
“A few more minutes,” she said without moving her mouth, as she continued to paint her face. “Also — can you get Erato on video chat? I need her opinion on something.”
“And you can’t ask me?” Orpheus asked with a small smile, letting his hands fall away from the guitar to reach for his phone.
Eurydice rolled her eyes, and nudged his leg with her foot. “Last time I asked for you to help me pick a lipstick, you said i shouldn’t wear any because it would probably end up all over you.”
A small blush creeped up his neck at her words, but he mumbled, “and i stand by that decision,” as he called Erato. She picked up after a few moments, and her buoyant voice filled the room.
“Hey Peanut!” Eurydice could hear the smile in her voice even through the phone.
“Hi Erato — Rydice’s got a question for you.” He turned the phone around and passed it to her.
“Erato I need your opinion.”
“Go for it.”
“What lipstick? I was going to use my regular one but Hermes kept talking about pictures, and Urania mentioned the lighting, and now i’m second guessing myself.”
Erato thought for a moment, twisting a braid between her fingers. “What colour is the robe?”
“Black. With a blue and white hood.”
“And what are you wearing underneath?”
“Black dress and red shoes — the ones I wore to Cory’s last opening night. Orpheus, hold please,” She murmured, handing the phone back to Orpheus, who held it up for her while she filled in her eyebrows. Erato thought for a moment — tapped her fingers against her chin.
“Wear the red you wore on New Years, but make it matte. And take off those gold earrings and put on silver ones instead if you can. They’ll match your ring better.”
“You’re very good at this,” Eurydice smiled at Erato, who beamed and shrugged her shoulders.
“It’s my job. See you soon!” Erato hung up before they had any chance to say goodbyes.
Orpheus put his phone down, and as Eurydice went back to the mirror, Orpheus just leaned back and watched. She was used to this by now — Orpheus’ lingering gaze. It used to freak her out, used to make her feel like she was being mocked. But now she just understood this as the gaze of a poet — trying to find the right words in his own head.
His gaze was interrupted by Hermes knocking on Orpheus’ door.
“I’m going to pull the car around — I expect you two downstairs in ten!”
“Almost done, Hermes!” When she heard his footsteps recede and the front door shut, she sighed, and sat back, looking up at Orpheus.
“I don’t understand the big deal,” Eurydice said. “It’s going to be a long ceremony, and then I’m just going to walk across the stage. Hermes didn’t have to close the bar for this.”
“It’s a big day,” Orpheus said with a smile on his face, his hand reaching for Eurydice’s. She stretched her hand out and intertwined their fingers. “And I think Hermes is just excited for you. The last graduation he attended was Poly’s after all.” This made Eurydice chuckle and nod. “I never finished high school.”
“Fair enough,” she said, lifting his hand to her lips, placing a gentle kiss on his fingers, careful not to smear her lipstick. “You ready?”
***
After Hermes convinced the two of them to humour him and take a couple pictures in the Dust Bowl, the two of them were shuffled into the back of Hermes car, as he drove to the campus.
“How are you gonna find parking, Hermes?” Eurydice said, looking out the window at the packed lots surrounding them. “It’s never this busy, holy shit.”
Hermes chuckled and turned to grin at Eurydice. “Urania has a parking spot.”
She cocked her head after hearing this. “But she doesn’t drive?” Hermes kept laughing as he pulled into a spot with a plaque labelling it “Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics: Reserved for Dr. Urania”.
“Do I even want to know?” Eurydice asked. Orpheus  shook his head as he got out of the car, reaching for her hand to help her out. She took it, squeezing his fingers. Why was she nervous? What had gotten into her?
“Later. You’re going to be late though, if you don’t hurry.” Eurydice nodded, and Orpheus smiled at her — big and bright. He wrapped his arms around her waist and she hugged him right back.
It only lasted a moment though, before she pulled back slightly to give him a gentle, chaste kiss. He smiled, a hint of redness creeping up on his cheeks. She let him go, and turned to Hermes, who quickly wrapped her in a hug.
“Good luck, girl,” He said, his hand solid on her shoulder. “We’ll be cheering you on.”
She kissed her poet once more, before rushing off into the basement of the Student Union building to collect her robes. Eurydice would have loved to cling to every moment, to be able to, years down the line, remember how it felt to experience this. But all she could think of was hurry. Time couldn’t move fast enough.
Every member of her family, every garbage boyfriend her mom brought home before Eurydice finally had enough and left, told her she would never make anything of herself. Of her life. The boyfriends she lived with — nothing more than a way to get food into her system and a roof over her head, told her to give up this pipe dream. That broken girls never made it to first place.
All she wanted was to get that piece of paper so that no one could take it from her. She did this. This was all her.
She felt slightly out of body, not fully aware of what exactly was happening. Someone pinned her hood on, passed her a cap, and she lined up. She filed into the stadium. And she waited. She listened to professor after professor speak about the future. About pride and community and perseverance. And then it was time.
When she heard her name being called, with bachelor of commerce - finance, and summa cum laude directly following. She took the cue and started walking across the stage, doing her best to make everything go smoothly. If nothing else, she wanted to remember this.
She felt her own anxieties rising, the bright lights and thousands of eyes trained on her, scattered applause being heard through the crowd. Approaching the centre of the stage, she took the diploma from one of her professors.
“Congratulations, Miss Eurydice,” He said, shaking her hand. “Good luck in the future.”
And then it was done. In that moment, in the passing of papers, it was over — she had done what everyone she had known had told her she couldn’t.
“Thank you, Professor,” She said, finding her voice before walking to the other side of the stage. And waiting for her, drowning in academic regalia, was Urania.
With her hand outstretched and a smile on her face. Eurydice smiled back at her, and shook her hand.
“Congratulations, Eurydice,” She said. Eurydice had never heard Urania sound so earnest, but it warmed her heart. She knew that they had their differences, and that they had clashed in the past, but to be embraced by Orpheus’ aunt this way made her breath catch in her throat.
“Thank you,” She finally managed to say.
“Now look out,” She said, pointing over to a spot in the crowd. Eurydice raised an eyebrow but looked out, to where Urania was gesturing.
In the crowd, she spotted Orpheus, a blinding smile on his face, his features soft, and his eyes brimming with love. She saw Hermes next to him, his phone positioned for photos, and Erato on the other side, her face blocked by a massive camera lens. And surrounding them, Eurydice saw all of Orpheus’ aunts — all of the Muses, dressed up, and standing, clapping and cheering for her.
Eurydice laughed, and shook her head, smiling up at the group of them. She was in shock — it wasn’t only Orpheus and Hermes who had given up their days for her, but all of his family.
She needed to get off stage now, she realised. She had already been up there for too long, even though it had only been a few seconds. She turned back to Urania, and grinned.
“Nice hat,” she said, and Urania rolled her eyes.
“See you tonight,” she said, and they parted ways.
When she stepped off the stage, she was handed her proper diploma and she took her seat. She could barely peel her eyes off her diploma — her name in fancy lettering, with a gold seal and all.
The ceremony ended, and Eurydice did everything she could to keep her head forward, and not to turn and try to catch Orpheus’ eyes. As she and all the new alumni were ushered out of the stadium, she just looked for Orpheus. For Hermes. For Clio or Thalia or Cory.
“Eurydice!” She turned to see her poet, a good head taller than most of the crowd, and she broke out into a smile.
Running to her, Orpheus couldn’t wipe the grin off of his face. And it wasn’t until he reached her, his arms wrapping around her, and hers around his neck, did he finally let out the laugh he’d been holding in throughout the while ceremony. She laughed with him, as he lifted her up, his arms around her waist, holding her close.
Standing a little ways back was Hermes, surrounded by Orpheus’ aunts. He had his arm around Poly’s shoulders, his other arm linked with Cory’s.
“Shouldn’t we go congratulate her?” Erato said, snapping a few photos of the couple from a distance. Orpheus put her down, but they were still holding each other close. Eurydice’s blush was visible to everyone, as was the glowing look on Orpheus’ face.
Clio wrapped her arms around Erato’s shoulders, leaning down to see the pictures she had taken. Erato held the camera out for Clio to see a little more clearly.
“Nah,” she said, a smile in her voice. “This is a big moment for Eurydice. Let them enjoy it.”
And so they watched from afar as Eurydice showed Orpheus her new diploma, watched as the two of them celebrated, spirits light and adrenaline pumping through her heart, pride through his.
It went unsaid, but everyone could feel in that moment, how proud Calliope would have been for this girl she would never meet. But they all knew that, if Calliope had been there, she would have been the first one to cheer as Eurydice crossed the stage.

Prompt”Don’t try to kiss me when I’m mad at you!”
I wrote this in a few hours and I’m actually really happy with it!!!
Also I listened to Roman Banks’ “Scared to Love Again” while writing this chapter! It’s such a good song and it sets the mood I think lol.
...
“Eurydice, wait!”
Eurydice continued her way down the dirt road path, fuming. Seething mad. Should she truly be this upset? Everything had ended fine in the end, hadn’t it?
Pairs of footprints were pressed into soft, wet mud - one feather-light, the other deep and sinking, a full outline of each crevice from the sole fully detailed in brown dirt. Cool tears from the weeping sky, gray and uneasy, drenched the couple’s hair, flat against their ears and eyes, and clothes, scraping uncomfortably against their chilled skin.
“Eurydice! Please,” Orpheus reached out his hand, placing it gingerly on Eurydice’s shoulder. “Are you really that mad at me?”
Eurydice wanted to be calm. She hated being upset, especially at him. She turned to her lover but quickly noticed the flaming welt that lined the base of his neck and she was seeing red all over again.
In her memory, she saw that man. She could remember his pungent breath laced with alcohol and something worse, stinging her nostrils and eyes. His greasy hair and cat-like eyes, stalking her every move at the bar. She remembered his crude advances and his heavy hands that felt wrong on her skin. She thought back to pulling herself and way and the screaming match that broke out in the semi crowded bar. The fluorescent lights spotlighting the brawl for the world to see. She remembered Orpheus, her sweet Orpheus, getting between them, standing in front of his lover as if to shield her from the him that even towered over him.
Why the hell would he do that? I could’ve handle myself damn it!
She remembered the fear that filled her stomach as she watched the man grab Orpheus by his shirt, collar digging deep into his skin, and spitting insults in his face. She pictured the anxiety and nerves that swam in his eyes but the overwhelming love and dedication to her causing him to take the badgering in stride.
The part she remembered the most clearly still buzzed in her brain, ‘why you getting involved in this, boy? This is between me and that bitch over there!’ ‘Don’t call my fiancée that!’
Fiancée? Since when was I your fiancée? And why doesn’t you calling me that bother me nearly as much as it should?
Hermes had broken the fight up before any punches were thrown, but the damage had already been done. The wave of emotions from the last hour came surging back, burning and swirling into a pool in her stomach. It boiled, the temperature rising cause her anger to swell as well.
Yep, she was still mad.
Just over the hill, the tin roof of their quaint cabin came into view, partially hidden by the muted green, yellow, and red brush of various trees. Eurydice brushes off Orpheus’ hand and rushed away, jogging to the front door leaving the somberly man alone in the pouring rain.
Orpheus slowly retracted his hand. Balling his fingers into a weak fist, he brought his hand close to his chest, as if the woman’s rejection and anger had physically burned him. He trudged himself the rest of the way home, dragging his feet, leaving behind a skittish trail in his wake.
Reaching the door handle, Orpheus realized that the door wasn’t closed, it was cracked. He pushed the door with little force and saw Eurydice, back facing him and arms crossed, standing only a few feet from the door.
She waited for him.
Orpheus ignored the tears forming in his eyes as he closed the door and calmly approached the woman. He wrapped his arms around her center, pulling her arms apart and linking his pale fingers with her honey colored ones. Her skin, even in the dull light, was beautiful. With cautiously deliberate precision, he peppered Eurydice’s neck with languid kisses.
“Don’t try to kiss me while I’m mad at you!” Eurydice tried to bite back but still craned her neck to give Orpheus more room to access her skin. He pressed upwards to kiss delicately behind her ear and Eurydice shuddered. He moved to continue on but she spun around before he could. She cupped her hands around Orpheus’ face, rubbing her thumbs against his cheeks, ear, bringing a hand up to brush away stray strands of wet brown hair away from his eyes. Tears, she wished would vanish, sprang to her eyes. “Why?” she asked quietly, “why would you do that?”
Orpheus wiped her eyes with the pad of his eyes. “I’m sorry, Eurydice,” he said somberly. “I know you can take care of yourself but I...I couldn’t leave you. I wanted to help you.”
“I don’t mean that! Well, I do, I just...gods,” she mummbled away under her breath. Why the hell was this so difficult? She sighed, “you’re right, I can take care of myself. And it’s not that I don’t appreciate your help, but I just, I just don’t want you to get involved in fights like that. I don’t want you getting hurt...” she added the last part so quietly, Orpheus nearly missed it.
She wasn’t mad, “Eurydice, were you worried...?” Orpheus gazed down at her. She ducked her head down, unable to look him in his eyes. Orpheus lifted her head, kissing the spot under her eyes. “I dont think I can do that, love. I love you too much.”
Eurydice heaved, falling into Orpheus’ embrace. She’d never had someone in her life like Orpheus, someone would genuinely cared about her and her well-being. Someone who constantly sang her praises and always tried to soothe her fears. Someone who wanted to protect her from the bottom of their heart, out of kindness and not some selfish reason that involved her paying them back. “You do, huh?”
Orpheus chuckled, “yes, I do. I want to be able to help you. You’re not alone anymore Eurydice.”
Eurydice buried her head closer into Orpheus’ chest. He smelt of rain, alcohol from the bar and of summer flowers. It was intoxicating. “I love you too.”
They stood there for god’s know how long, just talking each other in. Eurydice pressed against Orpheus’ chest, Orpheus’ chin on top of Eurydice’s head, her hair now puffed up from the water. They let their sobs come and go like the falling rain outside. They were soaked from head to toe but were warmed by one another. Eurydice was the first to pull back, staring up at Orpheus who had a hint of confusion in his eyes. “So, I’m your fiancée now? Did I miss the memo?”
Orpheus felt his face catch on fire, “I mean, I did say I was gonna marry you when we met! I just thought...”
“That we actually were?”
Orpheus nodded meekly. His face was so red he could’ve be mistaken for a tomato.
“I don’t, mind...” Eurydice trailer off.
“Really?” Orpheus asked. His voice unabashedly determined and filled with hope.
“Yeah,” Eurydice nodded, turning her head slightly so Orpheus wouldn’t notice the redness in her cheeks. “Not now but once we have the money and you bring the world back into tune like you promised,” she gazed back up to Orpheus staring straight into his hazel eyes, “I’ll happily marry you.”
Outside, the rain has stopped and the storm had passed. The last remnants of the setting sun shined through the windows, the sky glowed a brilliant array or golden oranges, magentas and purples. But the couple was too preoccupied with each other to notice. Orpheus bent down centimeters away from Eurydice’s lips, “may I kiss you now?”
Eurydice smiled, “you may.”

The Dragon Prince/Kaudia Hadestown AU
Sorry! (Okay, anyone who knows me knows I’m not!)
Ok, so like, I’ve gotten backk into my Hadestown phase, and I honestly ship just about anything as long as it’s appropriate and this au got stuck in my head, especially since a few twitter people I follow have been talking about ship, and I’m not gonna lie: It’s pretty cute!
I know I could have done Rayllum for this au, but as much as I like the pairing, I always like to do things just a little differently, and they’re the go-to couple for just about everything, and I just didn’t see them, and I still can’t when I think of this au in my head. Plus, these two characters and this ship is so underrated, and I thought it’d be nice to give them the spotlight instead this time.
So! Here’s what I got so far: consider,
Claudia as Orpheus: Talented, she’s still Viren’s daughter in this au, so I guess she’s a daughter of Hades, which fits her dark magic thing, but I think it still works since in some versions of the myth, Orpheus is either Apollo’s son or one of the Muses’ (goddesses of the arts), although some versions say he was just a normal mortal which only made his talent all that more astonishing. She’s a bit awkward, can come on a bit strong and weird (”Don’t come on too strong.” "Come home with me!” *cue Hermes facepalming in the background*), optimistic even when things are falling apart, falls for a more pessimistic, strong-willed, and slightly jaded by past experiences type of person whose charmed by her quirks and sunshine, trying to work on a spell to bring back spring since her father doesn’t seem all that keen to let his husband go to bring it back himself.
Kasef as Eurydice: Dead. Already got that in common. Has done many things to survive in a world getting harder and colder as the years go by with the gods’ crumbling marriage. Never stayed in one place for long. A bit more pessimistic and jaded than Claudia by past experiences and can only see the world as what it is with little hope it can be anything else, much less something better (Hello? That last part sound a bit familiar?). Tries to keep faith that Claudia is right and will be able to bring spring back, but is soon persuaded by Viren to follow him into Hadestown without knowing fully well what he’s signing up for.
Hermes is still one I’m having a bit trouble deciding except it’s one of the adults in TDP since it’s not easy to think of someone who matches his energy and the story. Sarai is a contender
Viren as Hades: Duh! Associates with death, fell in love with one associated with spring, a bit cold but just doesn’t know how to show his feelings properly, pragmatist, manipulative, knows how to play his cards, had a once warm relationship with Harrow when they were young and in love but over the decades, have grown apart and attempts to save their marriage only seems to make things worse. Starts to keep him in the underworld longer and longer than the arranged six months until Spring hardly seems to come to the mortal world anymore due to growing doubt that with their marriage on the rocks, the time may come when Harrow refuses to go back to him or Hadestown at all.
Harrow as Persephone: Associated with spring and the growing of plants.  Despite being a god, refuses to think of himself as above mortals, strong-willed and has a good heart enough to hate what his husband’s doing is putting the world up top through, doesn’t like being tricked or controlled. He fell for Viren a long time ago but has grown apart and even a bit disdained with him over the years, and the fact his husband is keeping him down below doesn’t really help matters.
No idea who the fates are, but at least one of them’s most definitely Aaravos.

This was literally called “bar bitch so Danielle loves me” In my google docs so here it is
Based off of a prompt I got over at @dilforpheus! Eurydice doesn’t handle women eyeing up Orpheus at the bar very well.
She’s sitting at the bar, at the very end, textbooks filling the bartop before her. Four weeks into the semester she’s facing her first round of exams, and six courses at a time was providing more than enough to study for. Eurydice caught a glimpse of Orpheus, who just finished his set for the night, as he began to wipe down behind the bar and prep it for closing. She was incredibly proud of him- he balanced his courses, his music, his job, and his love for her- all while never faltering in his positivity or the beautiful smile she was so lucky to see on his face.
He had just finished another long night of performing. Performing and singing endless praises and declarations of love for her. “My wonderful fiance, Eurydice. Isn’t it so exciting to call her that!” “My Eurydice, she’s all I seem to write about anymore.” “I was always told growing up that when you find the person the universe made for you, you feel this cosmic, otherworldly connection. I was definitely made for Eurydice.”
Eurydice was sure, that in the next couple of weeks, once they slowly revealed their secret, his praises would include that of her carrying their child and his already deep, pure love for the baby they had yet to meet.
She’s closing up her planner, crossing another paper off the ever growing list of assignments and exams to study for. Eurydice flips to the front of the calender and runs her thumb over her little black and white picture from her doctor's visit the week before. Eleven weeks now, she thinks to herself as a tiny smile graces her face. This is for them, Eurydice. Do it for them.
Eurydice looks up, to watch Orpheus wipe down glasses, but her smile falters almost immediately.
Who the fuck is that.
There's a girl, not much older than her if not the same age, leaning forward on the bar in front of Orpheus. The cut of her shirt didn’t leave much to the imagination, and Eurydice felt the urge to walk over and rip the padding right out of her push up bra. Orpheus, her sweet boy, was making polite conversation with the girl. Even if Orpheus couldn’t see what the girl was up to, Eurydice could. And damn, if it didn’t make her want to rip the cheap blonde extensions out of her hair.
She slams the book shut as she walks over to Orpheus, tugging on her shirt -his, actually- so it wasn’t too tight around her middle. Eurydice knows she’s ridiculous to be so possessive, he’s marrying you, after all Eurydice, but she couldn’t help it.
“I’ve always been fascinated by guitar players… so nimble with their fingers.” Eurydice hears the girl purr, eyeing Orpheus like a fresh pastry on display in a glass case.  “And you write songs..so you’re clearly creative. There's something to say about a man who..expresses himself.” The blonde drapes one hand on the bar, the other still on her chin. From where she’s standing Eurydice can see the pristine pink polish and suddenly she’s self conscious about the chipped black on her own nails.  “You looking for a new muse?” She hears escape the girl’s red painted lips, and it takes all she has not to wrap her hand around the girl’s neck right there.
“Hmm?” Orpheus, clearly deep in thought, responds. Eurydice can see in the way he absently wipes the glass that something is occupying his mind. Probably new song lyrics or a melody for class. Orpheus, oblivious to the carrot dangled infront of him. “Oh? No, actually, i’m working on a song about my Eurydice. Just can’t seem to find the right words, you know?” He isn’t even looking at her, not really, just the polite smile he gives new customers all the time.
“I bet I could help bring a few words to mind..” The woman offers, biting her lip at Orpheus.
Orpheus laughed  awkwardly, and went back to cleaning his dishes. Still in his own world, he hums under his breath, a melody he’s sang to her every night for a few weeks now, trying to will the words out of his brain and onto paper. It’s the same melody he repeats, over and over, as his thumbs run over his copy of their blurry little ultrasound picture, the one that sits in his guitar case and serves as a muse itself.
“Yeah, a few words i’m sure. Whore, being one that comes to mind.” The statement falls out of Eurydice’s mouth before she can stop it, before she can think of the implications of what she’s about to do.
“And who are you, exactly?” The blonde hisses, snapping her head to look Eurydice over. And in truth, she knows she doesn’t look like much. She’s tiny and engulfed in his shirt. And she doesn’t feel very attractive, naked face and all.
“Eurydice!” Orpheus squeaks, settling the glass down. His eyes are wide as he reaches out and takes her hand in a calming motion. He squeezes it, a silent reassurance that everything is okay.
“All those pretty love songs he sings...who do you think those are about?” Eurydice snaps as she took a step closer at the same time the woman stood from her stool. She stood taller than Eurydice, but it didn’t matter much that she had to look up at her. “Think he’s just singing about blondes in bars?”
The blonde looks her over, as if she’s sizing her up for a fight. Eurydice, she grew up on a street. She knows a fight when she sees one. She also knows she could win this if it weren’t for-
Well, fuck.
She couldn’t fight, not in this state. As much as she wanted to, as much as her possessive side said to stake her claim. This is her territory, Orpheus was hers. As much as her survival instincts said to fight for what she had- she had to protect that now, too. A feral part of her said to bite, to bring out claws. But something else, something she couldn’t explain, told her to stop. Told her to go.
“And what, you speak for him? I think he can make the choice himself, and I think he likes what he sees-”
“Alright, listen here you stupid slut-” Eurydice is slipping her jacket off when she feels a firm hand on her upper arm.
“Eurydice! I need help. Now.” It’s Persephone, whispering sharply in her ear, though she’s glaring at the young woman before Eurydice. “It’s important.”
Persephone nods to Hermes, who intervenes with Orpheus as Eurydice is dragged away by Persephone. Eurydice cannot hear the conversation, but can see the woman’s hands flailing in rage before she stomps out of the bar. Orpheus is left looking embarrassed and bewildered as Hermes speaks to him now.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Persphone growls, sitting Eurydice down in the chair in the back office. “You are eleven weeks pregnant, you do not get to throw fists in this bar right now.”
“You didn’t see the way she was talking to him..or the way she looked at him!” Eurydice defended, arms crossing over her chest. She looked away, still silently fuming at the interaction that in the past would have been settled with blood on her knuckles.
“You think I never watched some little intern hit on my husband right infront of me? Some girl in her tiny little skirt acting like you don’t exist.” Persephone’s sitting on the desk, legs crossed and leaning on her arms for support. “Sister, if I threw hands every time I saw it, Hades would be getting me out of assault charges.” She slid her a bottle of water, but the expression on her face remained the same. “You can’t let ‘em get to you. Orpheus is a kind, talented man. Girls are gonna want a piece of him for a long time. You can’t go swinging on all of ‘em.”
“Yeah, well, she looked at me like I didn’t exist.” Eurydice sipped at the water, still unable to look at persephone without a little shame.
“And Orpheus looks at you like you spin the world. What would you prefer?” Persephone nudges her foot a little. “He loves you more than anything on this earth. You can’t let some girl get to you. You’re the one he’s gonna marry. You’re the one who’s havin the kid. You can’t worry about every girl who flirts with him. Trust me. Took me long enough to accept it, but look at me now.”
“How’d you get used to it?” Eurydice raises an eyebrow as she notices the smirk on Persephone’s face.
“...a lot of lunch-break visits.”

hadestown thoughts n’ things song-by-song
Y’ALL KNOW I SAW HADESTOWN A COUPLE DAYS AGO AND I GOT SOME THINGS TO SAY !!! these aren’t gonna be me fully describing how the songs play out (a couple times yes, but not from start to finish), but are me pointing out little things that i found very memorable or funny or were little “OH SHIT” kinda moments.
(i’ll also be referring to the characters by their actors every now and then)
occasionally i’ll refer to the fates individually by their actual names (clotho, lachesis, atropos); if you don’t know which actresses play who:
yvette -> clotho // kay → lachesis // jewelle -> atropos
———
ACT 1
road to hell:
the cast came out all at once and i swear my heart JUMPED when i saw them enter and wave at the audience !!!!
andré came in walking slowly over to his usual spot on stage right. while walking, he was holding the hands of some of the cast who were sitting at the tables.
the fates snapping a sassy look at hermes when he says “three old women all dressed the same.”
introducing orpheus, orpheus is literally a happy ball of sunshine running onstage, holding a red rag and a crate and starts wiping down the tables.
when hermes introduces eurydice, orpheus and eurydice bump into each other at the center of the stage. they stare at one another for the rest of road to hell and it’s so so cute and enchanting. sitting on orchestra left, i was just watching orpheus’s face, so awestruck and in love.
any way the wind blows:
fuck i am so gay for the fates
eurydice’s “anybody got a match ??” and hermes holding out a matchbox to her. she snatches it and says “gimme that.”
eurydice lighting the candle and clotho blowing it out.
lachesis gracing a hand on eurydice’s hair (and i forget at which lyric because my mind is Like That and Forgetful)
come home with me:
eva casually dragging her hand back and forth above the flame, playing with it because she’s not really the focus of the scene and needs something to do while reeve’s busy crumpling a newspaper to make a flower for her
hermes saying, “orpheus......don’t come on too strong”
and orpheus—directly after hearing hermes say that—says to eurydice, “coMe hOmE wITh ME !!!” featuring reeve’s wonky movements that make orpheus seem awkward, which is just plain cute
at one point, he sits on the table beside her
hermes taking the candle from eurydice’s hands and placing it aside on another table. this candle stays lit for a lot of act 1, then is later blown out because we need Metaphors and Symbolism
i love that eurydice crumples up orpheus’s paper flower, then stuffs it in her pocket
wedding song:
damn i love eva and reeve
damn i love this ensemble
damn that flower is red
epic i:
once hermes says “sing it again though” and hands orpheus his guitar, orpheus straps it on. he takes a little moment of silence before he starts singing—like he’s trying to prepare himself first. in that moment, he’s actually just staring at eurydice and smiling because he loves her so much—
livin’ it up on top:
I LOVE THE FATES AND THEIR FANS !!! EVEN THEY’RE SUPER HAPPY THROUGHOUT LIVIN’ IT UP
WHEN PERSEPHONE COMES BACK FROM HADESTOWN, ORPHEUS IS SO GIDDY !!! YOU COULD SEE HIM SMILING LIKE CRAZY AND HE’S A LITTLE JUMPY BECAUSE HE’S SO EXCITED SEPH’S HERE !! HE’S LIKE AN EXCITED LITTLE PUPPY !!! HE WAS SO EAGER TO TAKE HER COAT TOO !!!
orpheus juMP
he was literally throwing a couple silver cups to hermes (who caught them)
there were cute little john and eva moments, with john dancing around her at one point
persephone tried to shove eurydice in with the dancing ensemble to get her to join, but eurydice walked away waving her hands and awkwardly smiling as if saying, “no thanks, i’m not gonna do that,” (but obviously later persephone successfully drags eury into dancing, and she’s wonderful at it)
when hermes said “let the poet bless this round!” ahmad, while holding one of the wine bottles, puts his hands up as if to say “alright, he can do it”
after orpheus gave his speech and they drank from their cups, hermes actually coughed—like the wine was just too much for him asjhsnsj
all i’ve ever known:
persephone’s onstage during the little hermes introduction bit. when he mentions orpheus and eurydice, seph holds out her arms to each of them as he does (as if indicating who’s who) before sitting down at the side to watch the two lovers.
orpheus takes off his apron (finally), revealing him in full with his nifty suspenders 😩💕
when eurydice said “now i wanna hold you too,” she was frantically moving her hands, grabbing different parts of orpheus’s arms
that sex scene was beautiful (IT’S JUST A GRACEFUL INTIMATE DANCE BETWEEN THE TWO AND IT’S PRETTY !! ESPECIALLY WITH THE LIGHTING)
mwah
way down hadestown:
orpheus and eurydice dancing around as everyone sings about hades and hadestown (spoiler: they’re cute)
as hades and persephone descend, smoke comes out of the pit, and the ensemble is leaning in to look down there. ahmad’s in front of all of them—leaning too—but also has his arms outstretched to his sides, keeping everyone else back. they all eventually break apart, and honestly the thing i most remember is just afra with her knees on the table and her hands gripping the edges of the table, too, to peer down into the pit.
gathering storm:
me, watching afra hand eurydice her coat
orpheus takes out his tiny notebook and pencil from his pocket and goes to the side to start writing in it, because he “needs to finish the song”
eurydice clutching her arms as she says “we need food.......we need firewood.....”
“okay, finish it...”
she goes over to orpheus and places a hand on his arm, then leaves
epic ii:
AW HELL YEAH, THEY BROUGHT BACK THE “doubt that she’d ever come, dread that she’d never come, doubt that his lover would ever come back” LYRICS !!
orpheus uses present tense instead of past tense !!! it’s now “he thinks of his wife in the arms of the sun” instead of “he thought of his wife in the arms of the sun” and etc.
chant i:
the workers’ choreo is so mesmerizing. SO MESMERIZING.
reeve sings the la la la’s differently than the broadway preview audio i heard before, and i LOVE how he sings it now. his ending “la la la la la la” leads into the workers’ “low, keep your head, keep your head low” and oh my god i am so in love with that
“is it finished !?” eurydice asks hermes. “not yet,” hermes replies. she asks “is he always like this !?” and he nods.
hermes is now narrating in third-person about how orpheus is ignoring the storm rather than speaking to orpheus directly
i really don’t know how i feel about eva going lower when she sings “harbor me.” in the past she’s went higher; and because i used to hear that all the time, now that she‘s going lower my mind‘s thinking “c’mon, you can go higher !! i know you’re capable of it.” but regardless, eva’s voice is still the most beautiful thing i’ll ever hear 😩💓
the way the fates snatch away eurydice’s backpack and coat is so elegant, yet cool and pitiful
EVA I HOPE YOUR KNEES ARE OK FROM THAT FALL. I KNOW YOU DO IT EVERY NIGHT, BUT STILL.
hey little songbird:
hades casually putting on his shades
patrick’s juicy low notes are to die for
“see how the vipers and vultures surround you” reveals the three fates making their way closer to eurydice
when the chips are down (intro):
the little coin ( / ticket to hadestown ) hades gives eurydice
the way eurydice holds up both the flower and coin in the air as if contemplating which to choose
when the chips are down:
yvette, please step on me
kay, please step on me
jewelle, please step on me
please. step on me.
gone, i’m gone:
shoutout to andré off to the side making all the necessary sound effects.
hermes jingles a coin bag until eurydice comes up and puts her coin (“ticket”) in the bag, indicating she’s boarded the train to hadestown.
cue andré blowing the little flute thing to imitate a train whistle. again, thank u for ur sound effects.
wait for me:
orpheus finally looking up from his tiny notebook with a smile on his face, as if he’s happy that he’s made progress on his song and wants to tell that to eurydice. but when he looks up, he sees hermes from afar instead and (still with an innocent smile) exclaims “mr. hermes !!” before going up to him. (unlike the london production, he doesn’t look around searching for eurydice first before encountering hermes.)
orpheus drops to his knees as he says “no...” during his convo with hermes
the workers shining the lights around like they’re search lights is so COOL
THE FOG !!!
the lights actually swinging over people’s heads in the first row. wow. just,, wow.
FATESFATESFATESI’MSOGAY
THE SET OPENING UP !!! I KNEW IT WAS GONNA HAPPEN, BUT DAMN THAT WAS SO MUCH MORE EPIC IN REAL LIFE
the way reeve jumped off the platform !!! TBH KINDA HOT
i was watching him run along the turntable and it was an awkward little run LOL
“I’M COMING WAIT FOR ME !!!!!” “WAIT” “I HEAR THE WALLS REPEATING !!!” that scene was so GOOD and MUCH MORE INTENSE IRL !!!
i loooOOOVED the way the workers turned their lights at each “WAIT !!”
why we build the wall
the workers retreat to the sides of the stage and hades comes in. they’re so stiff just standing there and singing and i’m like—well fuck.
the saLUTE !!! it’s literally just them putting an index finger up, bUT STILL. FUCK.
eurydice looks around to see everyone saluting, and eventually joins in with them and does it too
the way amber dramatically turns around with her arms swinging about, pauses, then says, “anybody wanna drink?”
ACT 2
our lady of the underground:
“SSSSSSTEP INTO MY OFFICE !!!!” *intensely hip thrusts her way to hell (disregard that she’s already in it—)*
“i got the wind right here in a jar” *grabs her boob and jiggles it*
don’t we just stan amber gray
way down hadestown ii:
andré making the sound of “the pickaxe ringing” by banging a silver cup against the microphone on the stand
eurydice coming through the door and down the stairs. upon seeing the workers, she exclaims, “i’m eurydice !!” with a smile on her face like she’s ready to meet new people, but her smile fades away once she realizes no one’s paying attention to her. “doesn’t anybody hear me?” she asks the fates. and clotho responds, “oh they can hear! but they don’t care,” with a devious smile on her (and the rest of the fates’) face(s). “no one has a name down here.”
the fates proceed to tell eurydice how the workers have all forgotten about their lives before hadestown, and eurydice will turn out just like the rest.
lachesis says, “so what was your name again?” (no response) “see? you’ve already forgotten.”
flowers:
eva’s voice.........SO SAD
how she holds out her hand left hand to the side, as if trying to caress someone’s face who isn’t there.
come home with me ii:
yeah, orpheus comes in from the audience and climbs onto the stage as he says, “come home with me !!” and it’s ADORABLE
he puts his guitar down as he gets onstage (which i’d say is a metaphor for him choosing eurydice over his music)
she leaps into his arms, they embrace each other, and it’s the absolute most sweetest thing ever
papers:
“hades, i know this boy !” (persephone) // “one of the unemployed...” (hades) // “his name is orpheus—!” // “you stay out of this...” // and persephone gives him a look because he just shuts her down, and she knows she can’t do anything about it
as the fates approach orpheus, eurydice extends her arms out trying to protect him
clotho snatching orpheus’s guitar and mischievously examining it
mmmmm look at that fight scene
nothing changes:
ugh, i love that acappella and their voices are SPICY 🔥🔥💯🔥
the way clotho just holds his guitar above him while he’s lying there on the ground, beaten, like she’s teasing him
if it’s true:
eurydice retreating back to the turntable with the other workers, knowing full well there’s nothing she can do, and simply works away like the rest of them
“is this how the world is !? to be beaten and betrayed and then be told that nothing changes—will it always be like this !?” is my favorite
orpheus finally standing and is still in pain from all the workers beating him up
him pointing at each of the workers as he says “i’m asking me...and you and you and you!”
the workers each get up as they sing “we stand and listen” (or is it “we stand with him” ?? whatever, you get what i mean). but orpheus is giving them hope !!! yes !!!
how long:
persephone and hades standing on either side of the pit
they were staring at each other, moving in sync like a mirror; when persephone stepped with her right foot, hades with his left, and so on.
chant ii:
the workers and orpheus slowly rising up from the pit
“is it truuuuue ???” echoing in the back, then hades shouting “it’s the bOY !!”
when the workers say “i can’t look at my brother’s eyes,” afra and ahmad started getting up from the center and refused to make eye contact.
while i am still salty about them cutting persephone’s chant ii verse, i didn’t dislike hades’ new part. i liked it.
as hades shouts, “I CONDUCT THE ELECTRIC CITY !!!!” aLL THE LIGHTS IN THE THEATRE GO OUT AND IT’S WICKED COOL
epic iii:
sitting in my seat was honestly a perfect spot for me. hades was sitting in his stool and his back was to me, so obviously i couldn’t see much of his facial expressions, but it was literally like i was getting hades perspective as he viewed orpheus singing.
the most magical moment in the show tbh
when orpheus first sings “la la la” and hades says “where’d you get that melody ??” he gets up and starts walking towards orpheus like he’s about ready to fight and sue him for plagiarism
but persephone intervenes with a gentle “let him finish hades” before he takes another step. so he backs off.
when orpheus was singing about how hades “saw [persephone] alone there against the sky, it was like she was someone [he’d] always known,” eurydice steps up on the turntable. orpheus is in the center, with persephone and eurydice on either side of him—truly showing the parallels between orpheus and eurydice’s love with that of hades and persephone’s.
hades eventually gets on the center with orpheus, and the platform rises again. when everyone—workers and fates included—surrounds them on the turntable below, singing with orpheus, hades looks around at all of them, angry and confused
at the big “la la la la la la la” moment when everyone joins in with orpheus, the workers each get up in pairs as their side of the turntable finally faces the audience. they step up and remove their hats.
the workers finally make eye contact with one another
REEVE REALLY HITS THAT NOTE. AND IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL.
the way the flower just appears in hades hands after he sings “la la la la la la la...”
you can really SEE persephone crying
lover’s desire:
persephone putting the flower on his vest is so cute
SHE TAKES HIS HANDS
i love hades and persephone ok shut up i’m soft
KIMBERLY PUTTING HER HAND ON AHMAD’S ARM, THEN LOOKING UP AT HIM AND TIMOTHY. JOHN AND AFRA ARE SIDE BY SIDE, HOLDING EACH OTHER AS THEY WATCH HADES AND PERSEPHONE DANCE.
promises:
honestly i don’t remember too much of it visually because i was too busy crying.
i heard “i don’t need a ring for my finger, i just need a steady hand to hold,” and i just started BAWLING
i think i remember she takes his hand when he says “do you let me walk with you” though
“can we go?”
“i don’t know...”
word to the wise:
the fates dancing around hades was just. mmMMM.
his kiss, the riot:
he removes the flower on his vest. (oh, symbolism, we meet again.)
hades is beside hermes as he tells him “let there be one term to be agreed upon...”
wait for me ii (intro):
ah yes. hermes sitting on that stool as it slowly turns around on the turntable.
wait for me ii:
during my show, andré accidentally sang “that is the road to paradise and likewise the path to ruin.” which is alright. we all make mistakes, it’s okay fam 👏
i started crying again once eva and reeve harmonized on “wait for me...i’m coming” and looked at one another
“are we gonna try again?” “it’s time for spring...we’ll try again next fall.” “wait for me?” “i will.”
as orpheus is walking along the turntable, hermes, persephone, eurydice, and the workers are gathered in the center. near the end of the song when they’re all singing “waiiiit for me... i’m comiiiing, waiiiiiit i’m... coming with you” persephone’s holding out the red flower while eurydice has her hand outstretched to orpheus.
EVA JUMP
“I’M COMING WAIT FOR MEEEEEEEEEE I HEAR THE WALLS REPEATING THE FALLIN’ OF OUR FEET AND !! IT SOUNDS LIKE DRUMMIN’ !!!!!!”
it all goes dark as they sing “i’m coming !!!! (coming !!) (coming !!)”
doubt comes in:
IT’S LITERALLY AS GOOD AS YOU’D THINK IT IS
SO OMINOUS AND SPOOKY WITH THE FOG !!!!
eurydice’s following right behind orpheus, but he doesn’t know that. and the doubt and uncertainty on his face is heart-wrenching.
like. the STRESS on his face as he throws both his hands to his head and clutches his hair.
as the scene needs to focus on orpheus and his perspective of feeling alone, the spotlight is taken off of eurydice as she stops walking and lets the turntable turn until her full figure retreats into darkness. the spotlight is fully on orpheus and orpheus alone.
in the dark, three lanterns gradually rise up from the pit. as the fates start singing, their voices are hauntingly beautiful in the scene.
“doubt comes in...the wind is changing...doubt comes in...how cold it’s blowin’...doubt comes in...and meets a stranger walking on a road a l o n e . where is she ?? where is she now ??”
orpheus’s “who am i ?? why am i all alone ?? who do i think i am ? who am i to think that she would follow me into the cold and dark again.”
“orpheus, i’m listening—i’m right here !! and i will be to the end !! and the coldest night of the coldest year comes right before the spring.”
“i used to see the way the world could be...and now the way it is is all i see.”
orpheus’s realism contrasted with eurydice’s optimism just tugs at your heartstrings. orpheus, the once optimistic poet who “could see the way the world could be” no longer has that gift. eurydice, once a realist, has now been given hope that her lover can show her the way.
near the end of the song, the stairs begin to light up, and so does the exit. they’re so close to the surface—they’re almost there. and eurydice is so hopeful. she’s so certain they’ll make it that she doesn’t even doubt for a second that orpheus will turn around. but suddenly you hear a gasp. and you realize in the blink of an eye that orpheus had made a grave mistake. he’s turned around. his eyes are on eurydice, who’s frozen and in tears.
“it’s you...” he utters.
there’s a long silence
“it’s me...” her words are weak. “orpheus...?”
“eurydice...”
eurydice drops to her knees as she quickly descends back to hadestown. orpheus had scrambled his way to the edge of the pit, helplessly on his knees, staring down at where his lover had just been.
road to hell ii:
hermes’ “a’ight” after a long silence just brought me so many emotions. fuck.
as hermes is singing, eventually orpheus gets up and, with no other choice but to push on, continue his way up the stairs (to the surface), slowly and alone.
“‘cause here’s the thing: to know how it ends and still begin to sing it again...as if it might turn out this time...i learned that from a friend of mine.”
“see, orpheus was a poor boy—“ dressed in her act 1 clothes, eurydice reappears onstage saying, “anybody got a match?” hermes is still up front in the center, facing the audience as he holds out a matchbox in his left hand. “but he had a gift to give...” eurydice comes up and takes the box from him, “gimme that.” she sits down on the ground and takes out the candle from her bag, lighting the match, then lighting her candle.
from her pocket, she takes out a red flower and holds it to her face, sniffing it. a soft smile forms on her lips—like there’s some sentiment to this flower that she’s yet to know of—and puts it in her hair.
as the pit comes back up with all the tables and chairs, there’s persephone sitting on one of the tables.
at the end, orpheus returns back onstage with his apron and everything, stopping at one of the steps as he makes eye contact with eurydice. they’re staring at each other, lovestruck, just as they were in the beginning. “we’re gonna sing it again...”
we raise our cups:
persephone and eurydice’s harmonies 💞💓💖💕❤️💞💞
orpheus playing his guitar onstage even though all that shit just happened 😭 i cri
———
miscellaneous things:
act 1 was great, but the moment act 2 started i instantly knew it was gonna be my favorite. in the past when listening to audio, i always preferred to listen to act 1, with only a couple songs from act 2. so i always thought act 1 was my favorite act. but finally seeing hadestown in person, i think act 2 probably takes the cake.
once curtain call started, i was clapping like mad. when we got to the ensemble bowing, my hands were already dead but i was like, “FUCK IT, IF MY HANDS FALL OFF TONIGHT IT WAS WORTH IT BECAUSE I GOTTA APPRECIATE THIS ENTIRE CAST”

I would kinda die for a fic about your modern hc about orpheus’s graduation
This was SO fun to write, your wish is my command. Special recognition to @hollywoodx4 who is literally the coparent to this entire giant modern au we have. She’s wonderful and so special to me.
This whole world is, and I'm so excited to share a piece with you!
Please enjoy sweating, uncomfortable Eurydice.
The warm spring air may as well have been a blistering, 100 degree summer day to Eurydice. There was no difference now. The heat made her feel like her skin was melting off, hair frizzing around her face. It didn’t help that she had to dress up- she was so happy in Orpheus’ t shirts that still fell to her thighs despite her protruding abdomen. Persephone insisted however, and she knew she was right, that she dress up for the occasion. Besides, she knew Orpheus would enjoy seeing her in the more dressy outfit. And that's how she ended up in a pale pink sundress, that was so tight around her chest she felt she was spilling out, and emphasised her midsection so thoroughly there was no question- she was very pregnant. She managed to get away with wearing light, slip on sandals- which was a blessing, considering none of her other shoes fit over her swollen feet. For all the poetic ways Orpheus described her day in and day out, the only way she would describe herself was a cow.
She was fanning herself with a folded program, thinking about how she couldn’t wait to get out of this heat when Persephone’s voice snapped her out of her reverie.
“You alright there, Chickadee?” The woman asked, her own curled hair pinned off of her neck in this warm weather. “Don’t go passing out on us, I have some water if you want it.”
“How in the hell did you do this? And Junie was born in June! You had to be miserable.” Eurydice groaned, running her hand over her forehead to catch some of the sweat.
“I had a pool and a husband who wouldn’t let me leave the air conditioning. I know Orpheus tried to get you to stay home too-”
“He did and I told him I wouldn’t miss this for the entire world. I’d have to be in labor to miss this, and i’m not having this baby for at least 3 more months. I can handle this for him.” She ran a hand over her stomach fondly, “we can take a couple of hours in the heat, can’t we baby-”
“Oh is baby talkin’ Aunt ‘Rydice? Can I talk to baby?” Persephone’s daughter piped up from her place on her father’s lap, before crawling over Persephone and onto Eurydice’s lap. “Hi baby.” Juniper cooed, leaning her face as close as she could to Eurydice’s stomach, the layers of tulle on the toddler’s dress only adding to the heat on Eurydice’s thighs.
“Sure Junie B, you know they like to hear you.” It was true- the little ball of energy that was their ‘niece,’ with her curly corkscrew hair and endless joy- tended to make Eurydice’s heart yearn for her own baby to be in her arms. Mostly because it was so sweet to watch Junie murmur sweet words to her baby, but also because those words caused said baby to move endlessly within her.
“She is gon’ be my best friend. Thanks for makin me a best friend. I cant wait to see her, ‘Rydice” Junie murmured, tiny hands moving over her belly in some unrecognizable pattern at the same time Persephone reached over to smooth the bow in her hair.
“She insists that baby of yours is a girl, and I have half a heart to believe her. My mama said the same thing with her, and even knew what I was gonna call her before I did.” Seph admitted, holding her hands out. “JuneBug come here, your gonna give your auntie a heat stroke in that dress of yours.”
Junie shook her head, wrapping her little arms around Eurydice’s middle fiercely. “No mama-”
“She’s fine, trust me, she makes this more bearable.” Eurydice promised, running her fingers through Junie’s cafe colored hair. “Besides, she’s just talking to her future best friend.”
She was distracted by music overhead signalling the beginning of the ceremony.
The ceremony itself droned on. Speakers of all ages, her inability to locate Orpheus in the crowd, the spring heat boiling around her. She was midway through reading a picture book to Junie when she heard them get closer to Orpheus’ name.
Junie climbed onto Persephone’s lap, jumping excitedly on her mother’s thighs. “Ophie!! Yay Ophie!!” She clapped her little hands, the three year old doing her best to get his attention with no avail.
Eurydice looked up just in time to see him walk up the stairs to the stage, right in time for his name to be announced over the speaker. She felt her heart speed in her chest. She wasn’t sure where to place this feeling- pure pride mixed with pure unadulterated love. Before she realized what was happening there were tears in her eyes. She didn’t even know she was crying until hot tears dropped onto her hand in her lap. Eurydice wiped at her eyes with the back of her hand, smearing whatever makeup hadn’t melted off her face.
She would remember to thank Hermes after, for snapping endless pictures of Orpheus, on this big stage accepting a B.A. degree. Yet in the moment all she could focus on was that smile of pride- pride in himself- that Orpheus wore on his face. He worked hard. She saw first hand the extra shifts he took on to save up for their baby, the late nights he spent singing to their baby, the songs he wrote and rewrote to perform for a grade. The early mornings where he made her breakfast before class, the afternoons he spent by her side as she experienced morning sickness into evenings. The mantra he repeated day after day: It’s for us. It’s for our life together.
Orpheus. Who was a nameless baby left to Hermes by his sister. Who was raised by three young adults who hadn’t learned to care for themselves, let alone an infant. Orpheus, who wears his heart on his sleeve. Orpheus, who fell in love with a girl at first sight across a coffee shop. Orpheus. Who was endlessly optimistic. Orpheus, who proposed to a girl after knowing her officially a month. Orpheus, who every day reminded her how worthy she was. Orpheus, who’s entire world revolved around a baby he hadn’t even met yet.
Eurydice was still crying when the ceremony ended, wiping fruitlessly at her eyes when Orpheus found them, that brilliant smile etched on his face.
“Hey guys!” He was as excited as a little puppy, scooping his niece up and tossing her in the air. Junie’s bell like laugher rang out as he kissed her cheek, before handing her back to Persephone. “Thanks for being here-” He kissed persephone on the cheek, before hugging both Hermes and Hades both.
“Think we’d miss this?” Hermes remarked, giving him a firm pat on the back as he hugged him. “Waited a long time for this, boy.”
“Cold day in hell that would be, us not being here.” Hades gave his nephew a firm handshake, before pulling him into another one armed hug.
“We successfully raised a college graduate. And we weren’t even out of college when we got you.” Persephone pulled him down so she could kiss his forehead, hugging him tightly around her daughter. “I’m so proud of you, kiddo.”
“Thank you- all of you. Can’t believe it, really.” Orpheus smiled sheepishly, setting his diploma case down before turning to his almost wife.
He wrapped his arms around her, lifting her up effortlessly, so he could kiss her before spinning her around. “‘Rydice? You okay?”
“I just love you so much.” She whispered, her hands cradling either side of his face. “I’ve never felt so proud of someone in my life.” Eurydice ran her thumb over his cheekbone, leaning in and kissing him. Her arms wrapped around his shoulders, and for a moment they were not in the blistering summer heat surrounded by his fellow students. For a few seconds it was just them. Them against the world.
When he sat her down and they pulled away for much needed air, he kept his forehead pressed to hers, arms still tightly around her middle. They smiled at each other, tears still running down Eurydice’s face.
Orpheus couldn’t stop smiling as he sunk to his knees in front of her, nevermind the inevitable grass stains on his knees. His hands wrapped around her middle, as he rested his forehead against her stomach in the most reverent way Eurydice had ever seen. Her breath caught in her throat as he pressed his lips to her belly, a gentle smile on his face.
“Hey baby.. We did it.” He whispered, running a hand down her side. He looked up and met her eyes with his own- now filled with tears too- as his palm was met with a solid kick.
“She’s proud of you too.” Eurydice promised, running her hand through his hair. The pronoun slipped out, as a result of Junie’s rambling. He didn’t question it, not now.
Orpheus rose to his feet, wrapping one arm around his shoulder as he kissed her temple. “In six month it’s gonna be your turn. And she’ll be so proud of you.”
“Come on, you two, we made dinner.” Persephone waved, though Orpheus caught her wiping some of her own tears away.
“I made dinner, she picked the plates.” Hades teased, taking Junie on his hip and wrapping his arm around his wife’s waist. “Noone is getting ramen for dinner tonight.”
“Children, please.” Hermes teased his sister and her husband, shaking his finger. “None of this foreplay at the ceremony.”
Eurydice giggled, wrapping her arm around Orpheus’ midsection. “Come on. Lets go home?”
Orpheus merely nodded, as they began walking. “You look beautiful ‘Ridyce.” He started, but turned back to see Hermes with his camera. “You comin?”
“Go ahead. I’ll be right there.”
They would later see all the pictures Hermes captured. Eurydice holding their niece. Orpheus smiling out to the crowd. Orpheus with his arm around her, kissing her temple as they walked home into their future.
One photo though, of Orpheus on his knees, talking to their baby, tears running down Eurydice’s face as she looked at him nothing but love- that one would remain framed on their wall forever. It would be Orpheus’ favorite for six short months, until it is replaced with one of them with their daughter cradled between them at Eurydice’s graduation that December.

Note
Would you be willing to write a sequel sequel where Persephone finds out that Eurydice got bashed in the head during the bar fight after she comes back and is totally like “ABSOLUTELY NOT.”
ABSOLUTELY YOU CAN. also, this turned into a persephone and hermes bonding session near the end so im sorry if that wasn’t what you asked for or wanted.
***
The train arrived on time, for once, with the lady in green flouncing off of it with a spring in her step unlike any of a mortal being. For she wasn’t a mortal being, as any person with eyes could see, she was a goddess ascending from below to bless their lands. She blows a kiss to her brother, the man she can see in a silver suit not too far away, shining the sun. Sunlight sprinkles from her fingertips. The green of her dress leaves a trail of clovers and newly green grass behind her. As she walks, she spots the young couple, always together, those two. Joined at the hip, almost. Arm in arm, stuck in a neverending embrace, as if they let go for one second, they’ll be separated for good. Persephone can’t blame them.
She waves and smiles brighter, Orpheus catches her eye first, his own grin broadening to something even brighter, if that’s at all possible. Persephone parts to crowd to greet the two of them, throwing an arm around the boy first, giving his forearm a squeeze before turning to the girl. And then she forgets whatever good things had been going through her mind, and all that is left is anger and frustration and a lot of worry.
“What in hell happened to your face?” she reaches for Eurydice’s chin to examine the bruise that flowers along her jawline and cheekbone, faded slightly to show she’d gotten it a little ways back, but dark enough to let Persephone know that it had been a hard hit, or a hard fall, that had left such a dark purple and blue mark along her olive skin. The scratch there had healed over but Persephone could make out the scab where it used to be.
“who did this to you?!” she holds Eurydice’s chin for a moment before the girl jerked away.
“They- I- it was no one, I didn’t- I didn’t start it.” Eurydice stammers, her face dropping from the smile it had worn moments ago. She crosses her arms over her ribs protectively.
“Oh, I’m not interrogating you to ground or somethin’, hon.” she assures her. “I want to know who it was so I can kick their ass.”
Something like relief washes over Eurydice’s features, the tension Persephone hadn’t noticed until that moment nearly completely dissipates as she lets a laugh fall from her lips. Orpheus leans over to bump her shoulder with his, probably as some sort of gesture of “I told you so”.
“there was just a fight at that went a little too far.” Eurydice explains concisely. “I fell, hit my head on the way down and your brother over there kept me in bed for two weeks straight. And I can’t have much fun over this summer cause otherwise I’ll ‘damage my head’.”
“you should listen to Hermes, girl, he’s a smart man.” Eurydice nods, taking the comment as completely serious, which was true. “speaking of which, I’ve gotta go to talk to him.”
she wanders over to the man in the silver suit, leaving greenness and spring in her wake while somehow having this solemn, angry look on her face that did not match the birds singing about in the trees around her and the joy of the town now celebrating the arrival of spring.
“good morning, sister.”
“is he still around?”
“who?”
“the deadbeat who gave Eurydice those bruises, is he still hanging around?”
“you’re assuming it’s a he, Seph.” he said with a click of his tongue.
“I’ve met the men in this town, Hermes. And Eurydice could take anybody but a man at least three times her size, I know that much.” she rambles. “you didn’t answer my question, is he still around these parts?”
“if I say yes, will you hunt him down and give him twice as many bruises as Eurydice?”
“Hermes.”
“Fine, fine,” he waves his hand nonchalantly, in that way that only Hermes could. “He’s stopped by once after the whole fight went down: he didn’t even get through the front door. Our favorite young couple is so beloved in this town that not even the bar patrons would let him in. Luckily, Eurydice was at home at the time and Orpheus was manning the bar so neither of them had to relive that ordeal.”
“good… so you think he won’t come back?” she says, her anger was beginning to wane but still that buzz of impulsivity that took away more of her control than wine. Anger could drive her towards most anything, especially when that anger was directed towards protecting her family. And Eurydice was her family at this point. Persephone would do anything to protect her.
“not much for him to find here if he can’t have booze. we didn’t even know him too well, not even sure of his name and I know names pretty well, so there’s that to be said for how well known he was in the community.”
“if he comes back once this entire summer, you’ve got to point him out cause when he goes back to wherever he came from after dealing with me he’s gonna be missing a-”
“I’ll make sure he doesn’t come anywhere near our resident bar bouncer.”
Persephone runs a hand through her hair, letting out a frustrated huff. “how could you let someone hurt her like that, Hermes? look at her, she’s so tiny! pitting her against gargantuan, drunk maniacs isn’t the best idea!”
“you know as well I do that she can hold her own against 99% percent of us. It was just that 1% that got ahold of her that night and we all paid the price for letting her go up against him alone. Next time we’ve got reinforcements.”
“yeah?”
“Orpheus is never letting her break up a fight on her own again, that’s for sure.” he laughs. “you know him, always so worried about her even though she’s the strongest person he’s ever known.”
“I know,” Persephone smiles, peering over the crowd to look for the couple amongst the growing group of people. “They seem even closer this summer compared to the last time I saw them, more in sync with each other.”
Hermes smiles, one of the few genuine ones he actually lets out these days. “don’t tell them that I told you this but… they got secretly engaged during the winter. they only told me, since they don’t have the means for rings and a ceremony and everything, but they don’t need much. They’ll tell you on their own time but I wanted to see your face.”
And her face is priceless, jaw dropping to the ground, her eyes brightening to something even shinier than the sun. “gods, I always miss so much when I’m down there.”
Hermes nods. “your husband doing well?”
“much better than before.” Persephone nods. “thanks to your godson, of course.”
“all of this is thanks to Orpheus.” Hermes says, gesturing to sunshine and warm temperatures around them. Springtime.
“it sure is. He’s a special one.”

the grinning man and/ or hadestown??
thanks, Ali! :D
- Hadestown -
Favourite Character: the tall worker/patron. ms. afra hines’ Tavern Patron. Ms. Jewelle Blackman’s Fate. Orpheus.
Least Favourite Character: not at all in terms of “I Don’t Like This Character” or “I dislike this character” but just in the sense of, “I Enjoy Every Other Character Just A Little Bit More”, it’s Hades  for me 😱
Favourite OBC Cast Member: i don’t actually know much about any of them, but i think Ms. Hines has great vibes and am also fond of Mr. Hughes and, of course Mr. de Shields.
Favourite Current Cast Member (If Applicable): i have Zero idea what’s even happening with the show rn so instead i’ll say that i really like what i’ve seen of Ms. Nabiyah Be’s work and enjoyed her as Eurydice
Favourite Song: that part in Lover’s Desire where Orpheus is going off on the La La La’s and it sounds like he should be flitting about like some kind of happy little Sprite. also If It’s True. also the part in Wait For Me when Orpheus sings “and I am not alone” and u can hear Hermes sing it with him. also the part in Wait For Me where there’s that kind of background/overlay of “I’M COMIIIIIIN” also If It’s True, also Wait For Me II, also Chant III
Least Favourite Song: i think it’s Hey Little Songbird? again not as in i dislike it at all, it’s just
Favourite Act (If Applicable): ooooooh...i...i think Act One? but...no it kinda depends on the day/mood, i think. Act One when i want some happyjoy and act 2 for angry depression with a lil hopeful streak thrown in.
Favourite Ship: i friend!ship Persephone with the Tall Worker. but also heck yeah Eurypheus
Least Favourite Ship: i don’t personally enjoy seeing Hades paired up with anyone in this musical who is not Persephone. Especially in certain contexts.
If There is Something I Would Change about The Musical: Papers.
Ratings: 10/10 for me. Maybe 9.5 if i’m nitpicking but, idk for me Hadestown, especially the Broadway one, is just really satisfying.
- The Grinning Man -
Favourite Character: i’m so weak for Bristol!Quake and honestly it’s so out of character for me and i have no excuse but. :/ Also, Gwynplaine is The Certified Primary Designated Favorite of the situation.
Least Favourite Character: i think i’m gonna have to go with Ursus? just bc the way things play out with him, while dangling in a similar manner to Jojo and Dirry-Moir,  irks me more in a character like Ursus than it does in characters like Dirry-Moir and Josiana
Favourite OBC Cast Member: so, Bristol? Probably Ms. Gloria Obianyo. I just love her Lady Trelaw and Quake. I also quite liked Mr. Angell as Mojo’s Head/Archbishop Kupsak :3 Ms. Brisson’s Dea is also my favorite Dea.
Favourite Current Cast Member (If Applicable): for London it’s gonna be Lady Trelaw/Quake again. Ms. Mackay’s Please Don’t Take My Little Boy reprise is intense and powerful in a completely different way.
Favourite Song: “The heart of our story is clear to me now/Oh, Dea, my love, it’s the fire in your heart/We found truth in the dark of the night/That shone bright on the darkest of nights/You always said pain would make us strong/And you were right, Dea, you were right./But noooow that I can seee my paaaain and Know the Hidden Face Of It I’m Grasping What Myy Mother And My Father tried to saaaaay to me/As they stood with stools beneath them and with nooses ‘round their necks the thing that they were fighting for was strength to look into the eyyyyyyyyyyyes of someone who is maiming you and SEEEEE THAT THEY’RE THE SAAAAAAME AS YOOOOOOOOOOOUEH/YOU DIDN’T CUT MY FAAAAAAAAACE/AND IN YOUR BURNING HEEEEEAAAART/URSUS DIDN’T CUT! MY! FAAAAAAACE/DEA YOU HAVE KNOWN THAT FROM THE STAAAAAART/AND WHEN I LOOK. IN THE EYYES. OF THE MAN. WHO. DID/AND WHEN I LOOK. AT THE MAN. WHO CUT. MY. FACE./I SEE MYSELF. AND WHEN I LOOOK IN THE EYYYYYYES OF THE WOMMMAN I LOVE. I see myself. there. tOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YOUR KISS OF LOV” just. that whole bit.
also looooooove love love Laughter is the Best Medicine, By the Laws of Every Land, and every edition of Labyrinth. I have no standards when it comes to Labyrinth. I want them all. oh! and that part of born broken when they’re like “STRONG AS THE HEART/LOOK AT THE SMILE/OF YOUR MOTHERLESS *seagull meme* CHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLD” i want to say Freak Show too but idk if it’s the song i like or if i’m just in love with that Thing mr. maskell does with his lack of bones in the london edition.
Least Favourite Song: I Have Never Seen A Face Like This. it’s good and fun and catchy but i get this weird sense of embarrassment and just don’t like the scene.
Favourite Act (If Applicable): Act Two! Mostly everything between the Wedding and them walking into the audience. But i also enjoy the dungeon scene for reasons that admittedly do include exactly what one would expect but also bc Gwyn just sitting there asking no questions and kind of dissociating through the whole thing and then just straight up fainting is a big mood and i respect it. and am gutted at not getting to see London’s take on it.
Favourite Ship: Dea/Gwyn
Least Favourite Ship: Josiana/Dirry-Moir
If There is Something I Would Change about The Musical: first of all and most importantly, crucially, critically and off utmost essentiality, at the part where he sees his mother after the duel and he goes and falls to his knees in front of her and she’s caressing his face and singing “please don’t take my little boy...” and he’s looking up at her with this utter exhaustion in his eyes, it is at that point that Gwynplaine Trelaw would address his mother as ‘mama’ in the most tender, exhausted, half-pleading and broken tone since the invention of speech, and it would be emotional devastating, so jot that down. either Ursus would know from the beginning that Dea’s his daughter, or it’d be like the book where she isn’t his biological daughter at all. Dea would get her own sort of ‘I Want’ song and would also sing the line “Surely I once had a mother” at some point, the “blood-red hair” thing would either not exist or just wouldn’t be tetris’d in so awkwardly, Dea and Gwyn’s kissing would be different- during the first Beauty and the Beast, she’d still kiss him on the mouth, over the bandages of course, bc Audience Perception, but outside of the performance, and especially for the Big Damn Kiss at the end, it would be shown that kissing has to work differently for the two of them. Dirry-Moir and Josiana wouldn’t wind up together in the end. They’d both show at least the beginnings of actual change in their character. Gwyn would have at least a couple lines about how messed-up society is and would have that going as a little background/secondary conflict. Probably handle his arrest differently and cut the meeting with Josiana/move it to later in the show and switch up the context a little. Let Dea go slam off at some point. Lord and Lady Trelaw sing the “strength to look into the eyes...” up through “...and see that they’re the same as you” with Gwyn and then walk offstage together, holding hands. hmmm...probably change up Please Don’t Take My Mother and The Drowning Song a little bit. Throw in a very short, dark reprise of Beauty and the Beast before Gwyn leaves Dea in the cart. He’d take the Beauty puppet with him, just kind of absently, and that would explain why “it was among your possessions” even tho Bark hadn’t yet swung by Ursus’ cart. I’d probably have Gwyn’s speaking voice, and his singing voice when addressing any character except Dea, be a bit chopped up. Maybe have him sing differently depending on whom he’s talking to, just to illustrate say during Freak Show how the audience is hearing him, vs. how Josiana’s feeling about him during Brand New World. Dea always gets his ‘real’ voice except in moments like the first Beauty and the Beast, which is an act. Ursus' arc would be treated differently in one of two ways. idk how exactly but the whole thing where Gwyn’s able to forgive Barkilphedro would be tweaked too just so the “I look at him and see myself” thing would make a little more sense. My version of this show would be like 3 hours long tbh also Gwyn would react to the realization that Ursus was there (thank you, London) and would have the decency for his voice to break on “when I look at the man who cut my face” (also thank you, London) while we’re thanking London, the proverbial third run in my heart also very much includes Gwyn’s hand-flapping and little noises. and would include some Shaky Trembly Acting from Gwyn as well at different parts of the show, especially toward the end, bc That Is One Tired Boy. and and and during the dungeon scene Gwyn would spend a lot of it looking specifically at Quake’s baton.
oh, and the otter on Josiana’s breakfast tray? there’d be a second one but it would be a whole Otter and it would be with Osric at all times bc i’ve decided that the Stokes-Croft kitten is actually an otter.
Ratings: 8/10 docked points for the stronger profanity since i personally am not a fan, and also the story has its definite flaws and things i don’t really care for. less overall technically satisfying than Hadestown BUT also caters to my exact interests in multiple ways, has excellent music, i love the story, Dea and Gwyn are beautiful together, it has definitely captured my heart and imagination and i absolutely thrive on all its layers and nuances. in my emotions it’s a 10.

Theatre Thurs - April 29th
Tumblr media
Epic II takes place as Orpheus adds more onto his song, despite the encouragement of Eurydice in A Gathering Storm to prepare for the upcoming storm. This version of his Epic focuses on the glittering riches of the Underworld, as well as the highly contrasting construction that is always taking place there, which is done by all of the residents of Hadestown. We also learn that without Persephone there, loneliness looms inside of him, and that is why he turns to such projects.
King of silver, king of gold
And everything glittering under the ground
Hades is king of oil and coal
And the riches that flow where those rivers are found
Chant shows the listeners/viewers the true desires and the differences between the two couples in their relationships are revealed. Eurydice learns that Orpheus prioritizes his music over their survival and seemingly, even their relationship. Persephone sees that Hades has begun to prioritize growing his empire to mimic the world above that she loves so much over her. As the storm gathers, the characters will drive themselves farther and farther apart until it is too late for Orpheus to salvage his love while he still has Eurydice.
And that is the reason we're on this road
And the seasons are wrong
And the wind is so strong
That's why times are so hard
It's because of the gods
The gods have forgotten the song of their love
Hey, Little Songbird happens as Hades and Eurydice meet for the first time. Hades tempts to entice her into coming with him to Hadestown, promising luxury and safety through the deal, and playing into her fear that she will not survive with Orpheus, who is merely a poet and has nothing more than his music. Eurydice who has been going hungry recently and is fearful of the winter storm to come, is enticed by his offer of security and wealth.
Hey, little songbird, look all around you
See how the vipers and vultures surround you
And they'll take you down, they'll pick you clean
If you stick around such a desperate scene
See, people get mean when the chips are down
When the Chips are Down (”Songbird vs. rattlesnake) [Intro] begins as Eurydice is faced with the decision of going to Hadestown or staying in the world above, and leads into:
And Hades gave her a choice to make
A ticket to the underworld
When the Chips are Down takes place as the Fates appear and encourage her to consider the offer after Hades invites Eurydice to come with him to Hadestown. They tell her that she should and needs too look after herself now that she is starving and the “chips are down”, leaving her very own life in the balance of her decision.
Help yourself
To hell with the rest
Even the one who loves you best
What you gonna do when the chips are down
Now that the chips are down?
Gone, I’m Gone has Eurydice explain that, although she is in love with Orpheus, she cannot overcome her desire for the material protection, providence, and safety that she will be provided with in Hadestown. Orpheus is unable to provide for her, and because of this, she decides to go to the underworld where she is promised those things.
Orpheus, my heart is yours, always was, and will be
It's my gut I can’t ignore
Orpheus, I'm hungry
Oh, my heart it aches to stay, but the flesh will have its way
Oh, the way is dark and long
I'm already gone
Wait for Me (”Hey, the big artiste...”) [Intro] shows Orpheus as he realizes that Eurydice is gone, goes looking for her, and is told by Hermes that she has gone to Hadestown. He then tries to convince Hermes to give him directions to Hadestown, and it leads into the next song:
So... just how far would you go for her?
To the end of time
To the end of the earth
You got a ticket?
No...?
Wait for Me starts Orpheus’s descent into Hadestown as he looks Eurydice. Not knowing why she is there but determined to bring her home, he begins the long trek to the Underground. Hermes gives Orpheus the much-needed advice for the Underworld that he will need in order to survive the journey. On the other side, the Fates try to discourage Orpheus, saying that his trip is pointless and he will fail.
Wait for me, I'm comin'
Wait, I'm comin' with you
Wait for me, I'm comin' too
I'm coming too
Why We Build the Wall shows Hades leading a chant regarding the values and reasoning of “life” in the Underworld. These values include working for the sake of work, rejecting poverty, and isolationism. This song illustrates the silent power that Hades has over his kingdom, while his workers sing the creed. During the song Eurydice also learns from a resident of Hadestown what it is like to live there and how she is to spend the rest of her life.
The enemy is poverty
And the wall keeps out the enemy
And we build the wall to keep us free
That's why we build the wall
We build the wall to keep us free
Why We Build the Wall (”Behind closed doors...”) [Outro] has Hermes is guiding the audience’s attention to the fact that a lot can happen on both sides of a pair of closed doors. Eurydice may be signing a sketchy contract, but Persephone is letting the workers rebel and get a glimpse of freedom.
Now a lot can happen behind closed doors
That's for sure, brother, that's a fact
But a lot can happen on the factory floor
When the foreman turns his back

Peachtober | Day 31: Masquerade
Summary: It’s been two years since you and your love Namjoon met. Another year, another Masquerade Ball. However, this year is a bit differnt. Joon-ie is acting different. He’s still your’s, right?
Warnings: Angst, smut at the end, cheating(?), fluffy smut, breeding kink (let me know if I need to add more)
Also, the answer to all my weird questions: @hobis-baby-prince @therealredraven @dimpled-rapper-stan
Tumblr media
You and Namjoon had been seeing each other for almost two years. The 25th Halloween Ball is what both of you called your first date even though it was by chance. It wasn’t soon after that everyone knew you as the girl probably dating Namjoon because you were in fact dating him. Four months after meeting, fans had created a ship name for you two: Squirrel and Tree because he was so tall and you were so cute and brown.
It had been your boyfriend’s idea to start a Lovestagram for all of your couple photos instead of putting your couple photos on your individual pages. Those were more for who you were as people and more about careers and friends and life outside of the partnership.
You had been performing as Eurydice in Hadestown which was literally one of the best roles you had ever gotten. It was nearly a year of you playing that part. However, the internet was calling you an unfaithful gf because of how you would kiss another man that wasn’t your boyfriend. You loved Namjoon more than you did Kim Woosung no matter how silky his voice was in comparison to Joon-ie’s natural growl.
Woosung had taken up acting with most of his group serving right now, and it just so happened he was playing Orpheus with you. Today’s show was no different. He made his lovestruck eyes at you and asked Hermes (played by Shinhwa’s Hyesung) if this was a real deal or not.
Then we walked single file on the moving platform, me trying to console him from behind, but not getting through to him.
“Orpheus, you are not alone. I am right behind you. We're all behind you, and I have been all along. We have been all along…The darkest hour Darkest hour of the darkest night Darkest night comes right before the- Right before the--”
Just as Fate had dictated, he turned around to face you, making you gasp in response. He wasn’t supposed to turn around. The thought of the audience was one.
“It's you…” He says with a smile, glad you were actually there.
You nodded, “It's me…” and sang his name one last time starting to cry. “Orpheus~…”
His eyes were so full of hope as he sang back, “Eurydice…” with all the love in his heart...before you’re taken away.
He didn’t hold up his part of the deal. You had to go back. You screamed and he reached as you were pulled back into the darkness by the workers. Then you all had two more songs to do while everyone in the audience was crying even if they had watched it a thousand times before. Hope tended to bring people more tears than tragedy. This show had both.
A moment of silence and then the crowd cheered. Flowers were tossed onto the stage as everyone finished up everything and soon enough, you were back in Namjoon’s arms. He hugged you.
“You did a great job, 공주님. As always.” His smile was hidden behind his mask, but made his eyes smaller as they were pushed up by his cheeks.
You kissed him once you were done with the stage door, “Thank you, 왕자님. Where to for dinner?”
“Our apartment. Pizza and 치맥 are waiting for us.” He said.
“Let’s go!” You said and pulled him along in your matching sweaters that you took pictures of this morning before he dropped you off at work.
There was a couple simply standing in front of your door, both in white diamond encrusted masquerade masks. The two of you instantly froze and prepared to run. Your hand was already reaching for the pepper spray when they both bowed. Rabbit and a Butterfly.
“Please don’t be afraid. We are only here to deliver this year’s invitations.” The taller one said.
Namjoon nodded, “Right. Almost forgot. Please, come in if you have the time.” and moved to open the door.
He unlocked it. You knew who the Rabbit was, but you weren’t sure about the other. Butterly was Namjoon’s Mentor, his Guide. Yet you had no clue about her identity except she was well revered in k-pop history. Your guess had been someone from SNSD. You weren’t allowed to know, however, so you would spend many years wondering.
Once inside, you jabbed Heechul’s arm, “I hate when you show up unannounced, and you know that.” no longer in awe of everything he was. You were too close of friends for that.
“Ouch. Don’t treat me like that. I’m working.” He chuckled and then pulled out a five colored envelope from his pocket.
Your name was on the back. Namjoon was handed one by his Mentor with his own stage name on it in neat hangul. You received the letters with both hands and thanked them.
“That’s not all.” She said, the Butterfly. “You have to wear this too.”
Medium sized boxes that most likely held your masks.
They then told you “Happy Halloween” before leaving. There was something strange about the look she gave your boyfriend. You weren’t the jealous type. You swear! It just stuck out for some reason. Seemed, unnecessary.
Both of you opened your invites away from each other and called the ones who had just been in there to set up an appointment for your fittings. You looked at your invitation.
Tumblr media
Emerald. Green. It seemed as if the invitation really was made of the gem itself what with the way it sparkled and all. After about half an hour of conversation, you two snuggled up with animal night masks in matching pajamas to eat cold pizza and watch the latest episodes of Jin’s and Taehyung’s TV shows. Even Yoongi was a judge on a singing competition nowadays.
Tumblr media
You had described your dress to Heechul saying you wanted to show off your legs. This wasn’t the Christmas Ball held by him each year, so you could be a bit less covered. Ruffles too, but not too many. You looked at your card again and what had come in the box. Your mask, yes, but also the emerald choker you’d be wearing.
Emerald. With these Masquerades, you let yourself be a bit extra and ignored the rules of fashion a bit. Today was your off day after all, so you followed the Rabbit’s tracks to the tailor’s shop on the outskirts of Seoul. You and Namjoon would find out each others’ color on Halloween Day. This cast of Hadestown had a less famous understudy, and you wondered if she was going to be invited or not. You kept a close eye on your phone to see if it’d be cancelled that day.
Heechul was in his rabbit mask the whole time you were being fitted, giving comments as you were done up and beauty was stitched around your frame. He also asked about your makeup.
“Sparkling and green, both eyes and lips.” You replied. “I might even do some green highlighter, but I feel like I’d be stepping into Elphaba territory if I do that so perhaps silver? To match the accessory?”
He nodded, “You gain a bit more fashion sense every year, a bit bolder.”
I chuckled, “Well, it’s never consistent. I always want to be talked about for being stunning.”
“And you are, even if the fans don’t know your name.”
“Absolutely. It’s a fun guessing game, and sometimes I realize that I’m wrong when I guess who’s behind the mask.” You replied before changing back into your regular clothing and heading to the museum with Namjoon.
Six days until the ball and the two of you would be leading some middle schoolers through some American Fairy Tales. You dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood while Namjoon was the wolf. The young teens loved it and saw it as a learning experience for their culture class.
Tumblr media
Five days until Halloween arrived, and you spent time working on your outfits for the ball before you had to go in for the show. You put on your many layers and boots and then did your makeup. It was really simple makeup for everyone, so you didn’t need anyone to do it for ya. Taehyung showed up today, surprising you with a kiss on the cheek and some flowers.
“You’re so sweet~” You said. “We’ll go out to eat after the show.”
“I have stuff to film today. I’m gonna be late because I wanted to watch your show, so maybe next time.” He replied.
You smiled, “Lunch on Halloween? We can invite the others out for ice cream with us.”
Taehyung asked, “What kind of ice cream would you get?”
“Matcha probably. I love the color of it. Maybe mint.” You tapped your chin. “What about you?”
“Lemon. Something with citrus.” He smiled his boxiest smile. “Have a good show, (Y/N). I can’t wait to hear you, my Little Songbird.”
So he would be wearing yellow for the ball. You wondered what jewel that coincided with as it was 10 minutes until curtain. One look over your makeup and outfit and you got checked by the costumer. She said it was done correctly and that you had everything. The cast be recording for the Original Cast Album after tomorrow’s show.
You were the one who really pushed for this before the original Hades aka Super Junior’s Siwon officially retired from the entertainment industry to just chill with his family and show up on variety shows every once in a while.
Tumblr media
The ball was in four days, and here you were in a binder, leather overalls, and a brown belt with holders on it while singing your solo.
What I wanted was to fall asleep Close my eyes and disappear Like a petal on a stream, a feather on the air
Lily white and poppy red I trembled when he laid me out You won't feel a thing, he said, when you go down Nothing gonna wake you now
Dreams are sweet, until they're not Men are kind, until they aren't Flowers bloom, until they rot, and fall apart
Is anybody listening? I open my mouth and nothing comes out Nothing, nothing gonna wake me now
Flowers, I remember fields of flowers Soft beneath my heels Walking in the sun, I remember someone Someone by my side, turned his face to mine And then I turned away, into the shade
You, the one I left behind If you ever walk this way Come and find me lying in the bed I made
You sniffled at the end and let out a huge breath before smiling and showing off a red carnation in your hair. It was the only one they were video recording for you today since everyone already did the wall song earlier.
Tumblr media
Your dress was nearly finished as the spooky romantic holiday was three days away. They no longer needed you to come in since all they had to do was add the sparkle to the skirt and torso. You hugged the tailor and told him you were excited to see his finished project. His partner was there too and she’d be helping, but she didn’t like physical contact all that much. So you simply bowed and said the same thing to her.
Hadestown wasn’t performing today after yesterday’s two shows, so you all went out and helped to hand out candy and visit children at a hospital while we dressed up as our characters but in a more traditional sense. You were a glittering fairy. The kids were interested in your curly hair and some tried to grab at it, but you told them it was better to ask first if you let them touch it at all.
It was hard to say no to such cute faces, though.
Tumblr media
Two days until the ball, and Namjoon seemed rather…secretive? He had been going out a lot lately and not telling you where. However, BTS was currently on a break so it couldn’t have been for work. If he was working while he was supposed to be relaxing, you were going to fight him.
“Doubt Comes In” played in your mind as you tried to stay strong and trust him. You did. More than most of your own family members if you’re being completely honest, but that was because he would always communicate with you. He wouldn’t usually leave while you were sleeping without leaving a text saying he had gone out. Namjoon didn’t always tell you what he was doing, but it just seemed so very uncharacteristic of your lover.
Tumblr media
Halloween was tomorrow, and you two were doing a Vlive together as you usually did on Wednesdays. It was the two of you cooking a winning recipe with fans as they could watch from three different cameras. Today was an American Korean fusion dish of black bean alfredo pasta with some sweet cornbread as a side.
He cuddled up behind you and gave you a back hug, “You mix that cornmeal so well.” he purred and kissed your neck.
You giggled and bit your lip, “Aren’t you supposed to be boiling pasta?”
Namjoon knew your weak spot, and you knew he wanted something. He was teasing you in the most innocent of ways since you were live.
Your prince hummed, “To think, maybe one day, we’ll be doing this stream with a crying baby in the background or a hungry tike pulling on one of our aprons.”
You stopped stirring to look at him, “You gotta marry me first.”
He winked, “I’ll think about it.” and gave a shy chuckle as he went to go finish his end of things.
Then you two ate with fans watching and answered some questions. Doubt was still nagging at the back of your mind, but you smiled through it knowing he would never betray you or your heart. You loved each other more than anything in this world.
He waved his hand in front of your face, and you focused on Namjoon’s smiling face as he chewed. Then he chuckled.
“You were staring~.” He said in a sing song voice.
“I love you so much.” Was your reply and kissed his nose.
Your Joon Bug scrunched up his face with affection and then you two went back to eating. They wondered if you were having kids or getting married any time soon.
“We’ve talked about getting married.” You replied. “But not as much recently. We’ve just been so busy. Maybe on his next break, we’ll have our wedding. Who knows?” you laughed.
He started singing, “‘You take me in your arms and suddenly there's sunlight all around me. Everything bright and warm, and shining like it never did before.’”
You chuckled and blushed, “You never sing on streams.”
Namjoon shrugged, “I love you so much. Also, guys, make sure to get tickets to Hadestown and watch my wife in the lead role.”
Your fork dropped onto the table, “Wife?” you asked as he used the term 여보 which was mostly used by already married couples.
“They were just asking about marriage, so I wanted to try it out.”
You put your hand on your cheeks because you were blushing so hard, “You. I don’t. I need a minute. Ah, my heart!” you went away from the camera and did a little happy dance.
Just him saying that word and referring to you was enough to make your heart race a thousand times in a second. To actually be his wife. To be the one he wanted to spend his life with. That was a moment worth more than your weight in gold, or diamonds, or emeralds. Or amethyst. Namjoon’s invite was on the coffee table, and you were just barely able to make out the words.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today was the day when you got to wear your dress to the Halloween ball. Your mask was in your hand while Namjoon was looking in the mirror trying to put on his Jewel, a choker matching yours but made of amethyst.
He froze the moment he saw you in the reflection, “Wow…you look. You’re stunning, Y/N, and here I thought you could never be more beautiful. You’re literally glowing.”
“You say that every year, 왕자님. Need help with your necklace?” You reached out as he nodded and handed it to me.
“Maybe I should’ve put the mask on last instead.” He chuckled.
You smiled as you could reach his neck better at this angle, “Your eyeshadow looks great.”
“Yours too. Hopefully, it won’t melt by the time we’re back at the hotel.”
“Hotel?” You asked. “What hotel?”
He smiled, “Surprise. Since we live quite far from the venue, I decided to book a hotel for the night.”
You gave him a cheeky grin, “Is that so?”
“Mmmmhmm~”
“Can’t wait.” You whispered before grabbing both of your invites and taking a moment to admire how Namjoon was only wearing a purple velvet blazer with dress pants and black Oxfords.
There was no vest or dress shirt under the blazer. Guess he must’ve heard your thoughts about showing more skin and wanted to partake in the look as well. You had your right leg out as well as your own shoulders to make sure the Jewel stood out. The two of you had matching feather and acorn earrings with a matching gem stud in opposite ears.
Your lips and eyes shone just as much as the choker. Namjoon had put on simple but still bold shadow. Both of you had decided to wear colored contacts in the other’s given color scheme. It was fun to wear purple contacts.
Tumblr media
The two of you joined arms and went into the sapphire colored limousine that had the other guys and their dates waiting inside. Hobi had been lucky enough to also get emerald and wore a green and black Gucci suit while his boyfriend was in an ombre purple ball gown. It seemed they had been given matching brooches. Taehyung was in a golden yellow suit and waved, showing off his yellow citrine bracelet which matched his gf’s blonde hair which cascaded over a bold ruby red gown.
Yoongi and his partner were both in amethyst tuxes. Jin seemed to be whispering sweet nothings to his darling love as he was in his ruby embroidered blazer and they tucked their neon pink hair to show off their emerald earring. Both Jimin and his hunk of dark chocolate were in blues which made me happy because he looked best in that color.
Jungkook said hi as he adjusted the leaf shaped emerald brooch on his white cravat which peeked out of his silk green vest. He looked like a prince with his banana dressed gf by his side, both showing off their tattoos.
It had been a while since they had all been together like this, about a month or so because they had all gone home. Now you were all in the back of a limo and having a good time jamming to music and chilling to random music, featuring some of your vocals since the Hadestown album was coming out bit by bit.
“Ah, you’re such an angel, (Y/N)-ssi. You’ve grown so much since you were in Hamilton,” Jimin said. “We’re so proud of you.”
You blushed, “Thanks, guys. It helps that I was able to get a vocal coach after the ball that year. I had a bunch to choose from.”
Soon enough, you were at the rather large mansion where this ball was being held. All fourteen of you did makeup touchups before securing our masks on. Jungkook and Neveah were first out of the limo, followed by Tae and Imani. Jimin was helped out of the car by his boyfriend Evan who had gotten his hair lined up nice for this event. Yoongi and his boyfriend kissed each other’s cheeks after they got out, and Jin was the perfect gentleman helping his partner out of the car as well. Next were you and Namjoon who were then followed by Hobi and his bf Sara.
Tumblr media
There. You walked the ruby red carpet and posed for the cameras. The air of mystery of who was dating who even though the world knew who you were without the masks on. You greeted the livestream, and he kissed your lips before we headed in. You would be entering from the top of the stairs into the main room.
However, both you and Namjoon were stopped before and given matching crowns. Not small ones or light ones either. Real heavy crowns that had all the jewels placed in the framing. You asked what this meant, and the woman who placed it on you simply smiled and said that was for later.
She seemed to have the same build as Namjoon’s mentor but it was a different mask. It was a relief that you didn’t have to work during the ball this year and sing for attention to boost your career.
Your friend Zuzu had come to Korea to spend it with her girlfriend Amber. There were rumours about their relationship, but nothing had been confirmed. Then again, she said that they were going to go public December 1st. They made such a cute couple. Both were were wearing red. Zuzu in a dress that matched the streak in her braided hair and Amber in a crushed velvet blazer and matching pants, large rings on their fingers. Zuzu’s dark brown skin went so well with the silken gown making her appear as a volcano of affection.
She came and hugged you tightly, “OMG, you are slaying that dress gurl. Lookin’ like an expensive ass avocado.”
“Ok, Miss Bell Pepper lookin’ goddess.” You said in response getting her to laugh. “Nice to see you again, Amber.” You smiled in her direction.
“Hey Y/N, you look great.” She said in her red suit with glitter lapels.
You asked with a playful tone, “Where’s your dress~?” not even able to finish the sentence before laughing.
“I only wear a dress for certain people when we’re doing certain things.” She pulled Zuzu back by the waist and kissed her cheek.
Tumblr media
Sara asked who Amber was with shyly because they looked so good together. You introduced Hobi’s boyfriend to the sapphic couple and they were able to hold an easy conversation while you continued to dance with Namjoon who you knew was starting to feel a bit neglected.
“You could’ve talked to them longer.” He said.
You shook your head, “I mean, I could have, but we don’t get much time to be together. You’re the one that I love in this world.”
Namjoon blushed, “I love you too.” and he kissed your forehead before spinning you around a bit. “How many children do you want?”
“More than two. Only children usually grow up wishing they had siblings.” You replied.
“Hmmmm, if we were to get married, where would you want the wedding?” He asked.
You smiled, “Anywhere you are...as long as we go to someplace really fun for our honeymoon.”
Joonie grinned, “Note taken.”
Then you got a very pleasant surprise.
Chan’s girlfriend and one of your best friends, Jay, showed up in matching sapphire looks. The media called them Chay while all her friends called them Cray because they were crazy in love. Also, we used his English name. She hugged you and you complimented each other on your outfits.
She was in a tight fitting evening gown with a lace cape. Her Jewel was a blue monochrome brooch that was clipped onto her waist. Her hair was put into a sleek ponytail. Chan had the biggest professional crush on Namjoon, and it was so obvious especially with his red ears so close to his blue blazer and pants. His brooch was on his left side, over his heart and shaped like a dragonfly. He had a layered cravat the color of cream.
Jay talked about the book she had written. Chan bowed to his sunbaenim Namjoon and the two men talked about what the younger would be doing for their next comeback.
Tumblr media
“I actually wanted to ask you a huge favor.” She said, her Korean having a bit of a Dutch accent to it.
“Anything for you.” You replied.
She shoved a small packet in your hands, “Learn this in like an hour and then perform it real quick. It’s to promote the musical I’m making out of my book. If you just do this one favor for me, then you can have the lead. Nay, you can have any part your heart desires. Please please please? I just finished writing it this morning or I would have gotten it to you sooner.”
“I swear to God, Jay. I better get to help design costumes.”
“Anything. I love you so much.” She said and then put her arm through yours. “We’ll be back as soon as we can.”
Tumblr media
For about an hour and a half, you studied the lyrics she wrote along with the beautiful melody. She admitted that it was based on one of her old fanfictions before she dated her current idol bf about “an introverted young man working as a barista in a book cafe where every day the girl of his dreams drops by. But what would a girl like her, beautiful and cool, want with a nerd like him?”
It was originally about Jungkook, but she got the book deal after she changed the names away from idols and towards “regular” names. She kept the lead as a Korean male, however.
And then you were rushed on stage with the music packet in front of you on a music stand just in case you needed it. Sara and his love Hobi were in the front row with Namjoon rushing to make it to see you as he was a steady source of strength.
Jay stood up on stage and smiled at you before addressing the audience, “Hello, I am an internationally acclaimed author R.R. Valravn. Pleased to meet you. My friend Y/N is up here ready to sing a song from my book because it is being turned into a musical set to debut in 2-3 years. Until then, here is a taste of what’s to come.”
She stood off to the side and had her co-writer play piano while you sang the song she had written. *
“Day in day out soft mellow tunes / accompanied by the warm scent of coffee / and the tales of others to protect / fill the hours at a distant  of a young man with a dreaming mind. / Often I wonder how the world looks / through eyes filled with fantasy / yet there is no courage to ask / for fear of waking him / for killing those dancing lights / ignorant of reality. / So I let him dream, / hoping one day the imaginations / are no longer creative ghosts / and the world is his story.”
*(Read Down the Rabbit Hole by TheRealRedRaven on Tumblr)
Everyone watched as you slowly opened your eyes to see Namjoon’s mentor whispering in his ear and then wiping her lipstick off of him. A small fire flared up inside of your stomach. She was trying to make him cheat on you. You could just feel it. You could feel there was a secret between them, and it pissed you off!
Because you didn’t want to be seen as the angry black woman, you smiled as you, Jay, and the pianist bowed together before leaving the stage.
Namjoon came over to congratulate you, “Hey, you did such a great job, Princess.”
“Don’t you princess me. Why don’t you go chat it up with your Mentor about whatever is going on between you two?” you pulled your arm away and huffed.
You found yourself in the fall tinted garden. Orange leaves were lit by amber lighting encased in black iron. False ghosts and real spider webs decorated the area. And you found yourself running into an empty gazebo that overlooked the city.
Tumblr media
Why was he keeping secrets from you? What was so scary that he couldn’t tell you, the one he supposedly loved? You trusted him! You loved him! Did he no longer feel the same? On your two year anniversary of dating? And here you thought you were going to marry him.
“Y/N! Princess, what are you doing? What happened?” His concern sounded so truthful, making it sting even more as he tried to catch his breath.
“You tell me! I’m not blind. You’ve been sneaking out lately, when I’m sleeping. Where do you go? To see your Mentor?”
“Yes, but--”
“WHY?” You didn’t want to yell, but you did. The word reverberated off of the marble poles. “Why are you going behind my back to see that woman? I don’t even know who she is!”
“Ailee. It’s Ailee. We’ve been friends for a long time. She took me under her wing, but none of that matters.” He was so upset and confused that you couldn’t look at him.
You instead responded, “Then why are you sneaking out to see her? Without telling me when or at least why.” with your hands tightly gripping the banister. He was so good to you but it pained you to look at him.
“Because, Princess, she’s been helping me do something...for you.”
You rolled your eyes and scoff, “What do you--?”
There was a smile in his voice as he said, “Turn around and find out.”
“What the h…” The rest of the words forgotten as you turned and didn’t see Namjoon until you looked down.
He was on one knee in front of you and holding out a ring. You shook your head trying to understand…
“N-Namjoon?”
“Y/N, I’ve spent the last month trying to find the perfect ring to do this with. Ailee has been helping me because I would rather fall off this mountain than ask you to choose your own engagement ring.”
“Don’t say that; you might actually do it, you klutz.” Different tears started to build behind your eyes.
He took a deep breath, “My Princess Y/N, my love of my life, my past and my present state of being belong to you. Will you be my future, too?”
“J-Joon. Joon-ie, I…”
“Will you marry me, Y/N?” He actually said it.
You nodded and covered my mouth as tears started to cascade down my cheeks, “Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes! I’ll marry you, Namjoon. Of course I will!”
He slid the ring onto your brown hand, the orange light of the gazebo becoming softer in the moment.
Tumblr media
Namjoon kissed you and held you tight around the waist as you hugged him still crying.
“I’m so sorry I got so suspicious. You know I didn’t--”
“Shhh, I know, Princess. I know. I just wanted it to be a surprise. I’m so sorry I made you doubt me, 여보.” He said.
You grabbed his face, “Call me that again.”
“여보?”
You kissed him, “Again.”
“여보.” Smooch. “여보.” Smooch. “My lovely wife.”
When I went back inside with the others, Jay approached me with Zuzu and Sara.
Jay was excited, “I just got like 25 different people saying they wanted to try out for my musical or saying they wanted to fund it. Thank you so much, Y/N I owe you big time, lass!”
“Where were you two?” Sara asked, fixing his necklace.
You held up your hand, “Getting proposed to.” and showed them your ring.
They all squealed and the congratulations started. Then the boys found out that you had said yes and congratulated you. Heechul took off his mask and hugged you, saying he better be invited to the wedding.
“This wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for you, asshole! Of course you’re invited!” you giggled.
And then Ailee approached after she hugged Namjoon and kissed him on the cheek. You went over to bow and apologize.
She just smiled at your offering, “I’ll forgive you on one condition.”
“Anything.” You replied.
“Be a good wife for Namjoon and a good mother for the children you two will raise. Work together with him and be happy.” She held my shoulders.
You nodded and giggled, “Done and done.”
“Then you’re forgiven.” The brown haired idol said, hugging me tightly.
So that’s what the crowns were for. You were Halloween Ball royalty having met and now being engaged at the party. They had known. Why would they not? You and your husband to be Namjoon danced in the middle of the ballroom until it was time for you all to leave.
Tumblr media
Your car with him went to the hotel he booked. The small bags of luggage were already in the Lovers’ Suite. The two of you began to get out of the super formal clothing and into the more comfortable nudity.
“여보~” You said. “Can you help me out of this dress?” The question came out of your mouth as your arms were already out of it.
Namjoon came over after tossing his blazer on the plush chair and unzipped the gown, and you let it fall to the ground. You were still in your undergarments as you hung up the dress and set it on the other chair before swinging around the stripper pole that was in the room.
“Really, Namjoon. If you wanted me to give a show, you could’ve just asked.”
He was blushing, “I didn’t know it had one of these. I--”
“Mmmmhhmmmm~”
You faced the pole and then tried to climb it, but Namjoon didn’t want you getting hurt by any pole that didn’t belong to him. As soon as he kissed your neck, your legs nearly gave out and you let out an airy moan.
“When did you wanna get married?” he asked.
“Now.” You responded in your lacy mint colored lingerie smiling at him.
He chuckled and began to grope at your breasts, “Do you think it would be too much if we consummated before the wedding?”
You smiled and turned around, “No.”
Your lips met his and you unbuttoned his pants as he unclipped your strapless bra. The heat between you two increased as you became more and more undressed. You loved him. You loved him so much, and you made sure he knew that.
“I don’t deserve you.”
“I was about to say the same thing, and yet somehow you’re mine.” He said as he laid you down on the bed, your choker jewels clacking against each other.
You giggled, “It’s been a while since I’ve had you in a collar.”
He licked your ear and purred, “I could say the same to you.”
You moved your leg to rub up his crotch, making him gasp and whimper as you made contact, his brown eyes fluttering for a moment before they focused on you. Namjoon didn’t hesitate to kiss all over your chest. He sucked on your nipples making you mewl in pleasure and grab his head as he went lower and lower. His long fingers played with your clit and soon he sunk two digits inside your folds.
“Baby, you’re so wet.” He purred.
“Only because I love you, idiot.” You gave a breathy moan that hitched in the middle as he took your pert dark brown nipples between his teeth and tugged. “Ooooh, Joon-ie~ I can’t, oh, I can’t wait.”
Namjoon swirled his tongue around your chocolate areolas as he added another finger inside of you. His fingers still had several rings on them, making the texture even more enjoyable for you pussy which began to pulse at the added stimulation. Your fiance had a silly rule for having sex with you, one of the few he had. You had to orgasm at least once before he fucked you loopy. He was a gentle lover, sensitive and sweet and considerate until he got inside of your heated cunt. Then he lost all of his reason and just wanted to fuck you.
It was so cute when he got so needy. Even when he was domming or during simple sex, he’d ask for your permission to cum. Sometimes you were the one begging for release because it felt so good and you lowkey forgot which role you played for the night.
You blindly reached for his cock and began to rub it making Namjoon bite his lip and moan with his eyes closed. He was already very sticky from his own leaking precum as well. You turned the tables so that you were on top and lined up his cock with your hole and began to sink down.
“Babe, what, ah~ what about the condom?” He hissed and held your hips.
“Ah, ah, oh shit. Don’t need one tonight.” You said, stretching to fit his thick dick inside. “I’m gonna be your wife soon and we should get a head start on making babies.”
His eyes lit up, “We’re gonna have such beautiful kids. With a mother like you, oh fuck Y/N! How many kids?”
“As many as you can fuck into me.” You bit your lip and bounced on him. “Use your hips, you gorgeous idol you.” You giggled.
Namjoon lifted his hips to connect with yours, making you squeak. He smiled up at you and you clawed his chest as his cock reached deeper and deeper inside of your wet heat. Your moans filled up the room, but it was a waste to be in the lovers’ suite and not use any of the toys. You grabbed the scarf you were going to wear tomorrow and told Namjoon to tie your hands to the stripper pole.
He did and just watched you squirm for him as he searched for something for himself. What he found was a vibrating cock ring that kept him hard as he plunged into you again as you faced him. A connections of eyes and a shared smile led to a kiss deeper than his dick could ever go. So tender and yet so rough that both of you teared up.
“I love. I love you. I love you so much.” You said.
“Me too. I love you too. I can’t wait to be your husband, Y/N. Kim Y/N, my wife. Oh god, I’m gonna cum.” He said lifting your leg over his shoulder.
You gripped the cold metal made hot by constant friction, “Let’s see if we can get some twins out of you? Kiss me.”
“Always.” Namjoon thrusted his hips into you more and more and felt you melt on him as he painted your insides white with his cum.
A moment of hard breathing and your legs began to shiver as your third orgasm of the night washed over you no matter how dry it was. You could feel Namjoon’s cum leaking out of your pussy. He scooped it up and pushed it back inside you.
“Can’t have twins if you let them seep out of you.” He kissed your shoulder and laughed. “What the fuck did I just say?”
Both of you began to laugh and then he untied you and you used your mouth to clean off his dick before both of you hopped into the shower. Then you and your husband to be cuddled in the large bed before falling asleep in each other’s arms. You couldn’t wait to be his wife.

parkner | orpheus and eurydice au | chapter one | underneath his wing
summary; a parkner au of hadestown and the myth of orpheus and eurydice
“How far would you go for Harley?”
"To the end of time.” Peter says firmly, gripping his mask in one hand, “to the end of the universe.”
"It’s no spaceship,” Tony warns him, “Getting to Thanos is not an easy path – not for the sensitive of souls”
He pauses. "So do you really wanna go?”
"With all my heart.”
Tony regards him. “Well, that’s a start.”
-
chapter summary;
“Hermes? Like the Greek god?”
“Shhh,” he raises a finger to his lips and leans in slightly, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes, “I’m incognito. Call me Tony. Tony Stark.”
“A god called Tony?” Peter asks sceptically, as though that’s the weirdest thing he’s seen today.
Tony draws back in mock offence, “Yeah, shut up kid.”
notes; I've planned every chapter for except the last cos I still don't know how it will end oops. Inspiration from Hadestown and also some Percy Jackson because that series was the foundation for all my Greek mythology knowledge. It's my first mcu fic that I've /actually/ written and first parkner fic. Let me know if you have any questions because this universe is probably a bit confusing cos I have merged...everything.
read here on ao3!
---
As many Greek tales begin, this one starts with a god and a mortal. And, as many Greek tales do, it ends with tragedy. Still, there is always the slightest belief that perhaps this time, this time the story might just turn out differently.
Hermes spends a lot of his time in the mortal realm. As the god of messages and travelling, Zeus doesn’t even know how busy he is - what with all the up and coming technology and developments and aliens! His immortal life just got a whole lot more interesting.
Even so, he only ever watches them as they scurry about their fleeting lives - some search for meaning, some scrambling to leaving a mark on their world - really, it is fascinating. And yet, rarely does he interact with them.
To be fair, few believe the gods of Ancient Greece actually exist anymore. Demigod children and rare and far apart (he’s not quite sure how Zeus has managed to keep it in his pants - it’s almost impressive) and have practically died out. They had sworn an oath to no longer consort with mortals but really, when has a little thing like consequences ever bothered the gods?
No. Hermes tries not to interfere with mortal lives. More often than not, the gods’ involvement only ends in doom. Still, he’s only one god whose impulse control is his father’s threats and in the past century or so, he’s been involved with two mortal lives: once was an accident and the other by choice. And somehow, by a strange twist of fate, these two lives collide.
Ultimately, it’s their story that’s being told.
It mostly starts when he meets Peter Parker.
He’d watched the boy for a while now. Never before had he seen someone so well-intentioned and pure of heart and so, so willing to throw himself into all sorts of unnecessary danger. Hermes isn’t one to get attached (mortals die too quickly and too easily) but he can feel the fondness growing for the boy and he did not want to see him die if he could do anything about it.
You see, Peter Parker was also Queens’ friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. And every night he dresses up in red and blue pyjamas and goes out stopping petty crime in his city. It’s rather noble, Hermes decides, though if the kid could try his best not to get shot and fix himself up on his fire escape in the middle of the night, it would do wonders for Hermes’ immortal heart.
For all the oaths they’ve sworn about not having any more demigod children blah blah blah, not once has Zeus said anything about just…talking – maybe mentoring? – a random mortal. Of course, Hermes is going to take advantage of the loophole and chooses to do something about Peter Parker. Technically he’s not breaking any rules.
And so, Hermes starts to scheme.
It’s been a while since he talked to a mortal so obviously, he needs to make sure he doesn’t come across as a crazy person. Turns out, he’s not a huge fan of planning and decides to turn up outside the door of the Parker residence the next day.
He takes the form of a mortal – wears a business suit, a funky pair of orange-tinted sunglasses, throws on an odd goatee he must’ve seen on a poster and gives himself a moment to adjust to the vulnerability and smallness of a human (he’s so short this is ridiculous!).
He still doesn’t have a plan.
He’s a god, he doesn’t need that. The kid’s a mere fifteen years old – a complete baby! – and Hermes is just here to provide some extra protection.
Really though, all he did was find all the tech Peter might need to make a new-and-improved-not-just-cotton Spidey suit and shove it into a purple paper gift bag.
The door flies open.
Hermes hasn’t even rung the bell.
Peter stands in the doorway, eyes alert like he’s expecting some sort of attack. Hermes tries not to show his surprise and hopes that the wings on his shoes don’t make an appearance because that would be incredibly difficult to explain.
The two stare at each other for a while.
“Uh…who are you?”
Hermes opens his mouth to answer when Peter’s gaze drops and fixates on Hermes’ shoes. Or more specifically, the wings that seem to have taken a mind of their own and flutter nervously by his ankles.
His mouth drops open almost comically. “Hermes? Like the Greek god?”
Now, Hermes is stunned. How the kid’s perceptiveness slipped his notice he has no idea. He tries not to flinch at the use of his godly name, straightens up and pulls a smirk onto his face.
HermesTony draws back in mock offence, “Yeah, shut up kid.”
Peter’s eyebrows are drawn together in confusion but he nods slowly.
“What are you doing here, Mr Herm- Mr Stark?”
“I want to discuss something with you.”
When Peter doesn’t make a move to bring Tony in and perhaps give them some form of secrecy, Tony rolls his eyes and juts a thumb into the flat, “Private matters. Of the arachnid sort.”
Peter’s eyes widen and he practically drags Tony – he is a god! – into the flat.
“What are you talking about?” Peter hisses, suddenly on the alert again.
“Look, kid. I’ve seen what you can do and I’m not gonna stop you. Nor am I going to out you. I do think you’re doing good.”
As Peter flushes slightly at the praise, Tony ploughs on, “But then again, I don’t want you dying anytime soon so I’ve found some tech that you can use to make a suit that can protect you better than those pyjamas.”
He holds up a hand to stop Peter’s protests, “I know you have the skill to make your own stuff – I’ve seen your webshooters in action – this is just for your own safety.”
By the gods he sounds like a mother. He’s known of this kid for a couple months and he’s already attached. There’s no way this will end well.
He lets his hand fall, allowing the kid to speak. “Well, questions?”
“This is amazing Mr Stark! Thank you! But…” Peter starts, slowing his tone, “when you say found the tech did you mean…steal from Hephaestus?”
Tony splutters indignantly because no, he had actually asked nicely! but when he sees Peter stifling his laughter, he lets his lips quirk up in the smallest of smiles.
“You’re gonna be the death of me kid.”

post-chant: “you can’t go there”
Cory was sitting on the couch, eating Erato’s leftovers from earlier while her feet soaked in an ice bath. Only a couple days left of Nutcracker performances, and she was trying to push through. She ate quietly while Erato paced the length of the living room in front of her.
“I just don’t get it,” she said, running her hands through her hair, wavy after being let out of braids. She had been sat at home, frantically been pulling cards, trying to find answers she knew she had no right to know. So she had pulled herself together, and had gone to meet Cory and Pat after the show, and even then, both the dancers could tell that she was on edge.
“What don’t you get?” Cory said, her mouth full of rice and stir fry.
“Why Eurydice would ghost him.” This had taken up the better part of her brain since family dinner. Since Orpheus showed up solo to the Nutcracker gala. Since Hermes had told Thalia that Orpheus wasn’t eating.
“Era…” Cory started to warn her sister. “You can’t go there.”
“They were so good together, Cory. What happened?” Erato turned to her sister. Erato loved Orpheus — they all did, but Erato took Orpheus’ pain as her own. She wasn’t allowed to see him after the funeral. Her sisters were worried that she would upset him with her fretting. And this was no different.
“Era—” Cory started, but was cut off.
“Cory he’s hurting. And we aren’t doing anything.”
“We can all tell that he’s hurting. But it’s not just her. It’s been four years,” Cory said, pulling her feet out of the ice bath and drying them off on a towel. “It’s been a really rough four years, and we all thought this year was gonna be easier for him because Orpheus would have Eurydice. But she must be hurting too.”
Erato shook her head, continuing with her pacing. She had tried to call Orpheus earlier — had tried to convince him to come and watch Cory and Pat dance. But he wasn’t answering his phone. It was ringing and ringing but no answer.
Erato ignored everything Cory said. Yes, her sister was probably right — Orpheus at least had them. Eurydice didn’t have anyone to turn to as far as they knew. But still, Erato pulled her phone out of her back pocket.
“I’m gonna call him again,” Erato said, pressing his name on her screen, and holding the phone up to her cheek. Cory rolled her eyes, but tucked her knees up to her chest, secretly just as worried about her nephew as Erato was.
The phone rang one, then twice, and Erato bit her lip. She could finally breathe when she heard the young boy’s voice on the other end of the phone.
“Erato, is everything okay?” Erato breathed a sigh of relief. He sounded less shaky than he had sounded the last time she saw him.
“Hey peanut. Yeah, no, everything’s fine. Just checking in on you!” She tried to infuse a sense of enthusiasm and cheer into her voice, but there was nothing there that sounded real.
“Oh… okay. Can I — do you mind if” Orpheus was cut off by a voice in the background.
“Orpheus, who’s on the phone?”
Erato thought it sounded like he  had pressed the phone to his shirt, mumbling something before he put the phone to his ear again.
“Orpheus,” Erato asked, her eyes widening, catching Cory’s attention. “Is that who I think it is?”
He struggled to find his words for a moment, and Erato jumped in. “Orpheus, where are you?”
He was silent for a moment, before responding: “Erato I’m… I’m at Eurydice’s place. Can I… Can I call you in the morning?”
“Orpheus just…” She didn’t want to pry. He was an adult now, and he didn’t need her doting on him. But she needed to know. “Just tell me — is everything okay? Are you two…?”
Erato trailed off, not really wanting to ask the question but desperate to know the answer. But when he responded, Erato could practically hear the smile in his soft, lilting voice.
“We’re gonna be okay. Promise.”
And without saying goodbye, he hung up. And as the line disconnected, Erato broke. She broke out into a smile, her eyes lighting up and her heart breaking and reminding itself, and she could finally breathe a little easier because they found each other again. they had come back to centre.
“Don’t get quiet now, Era, what happened?” Cory sat forward slightly, worry in her voice but hope in her eyes.
“He’s there. He’s with her. They’re back together,” Erato said, flopping down on the pink sofa next to her sister, pulling her in to lean her shoulder on. Cory let out a sigh, and reached over to squeeze her sister’s knee.
“Oh shit we need to tell the others,” Erato said, sitting up, and opening up her phone. Before Cory even had the chance to wonder if maybe this was something that Orpheus should be sharing, she felt her phone beside her start to buzz.
Erato: ORPHEUS AND EURYDICE ARE BACK TOGETHER. I! REPEAT! THEY’RE BACK TOGETHER
Thalia: oh FUCK yeah thank god, i was missing my game partner
Clio: ???? details??? are they alright?
Poly: huh. interesting
Mel: Oh that’s so wonderful to hear! They only have so much time left so it’s nice to know they’re spending it together
Euterpe: What happened. What are the details. When am I allowed to kick her ass?
Clio: Does anyone know if Eurydice is alright? How’s she faring?
Cory: geez, euterpe, chill otu a little we all no u love her 2
Urania: ….. i still stand by my statement earlier
Poly: and what statement was that?
Urania: that Orpheus is too good for her and I Don’t Trust Her
Thalia: oh shut up Urania he loves her and so do you
