The Oedipus complex that Freud came up with is a argument built on the disbelief that humans are capable of nonsexual relations.

I feel as if the only thing that happens is that the child craves parental care and the love of their mother and father, but society construes those feelings with sexual desires, putting the root into the child’s mind that sex is the highest form of love even over that of a parent

It is not the child actually having subconsciously dirty thoughts or needs, but the society that imposes that In the children so it’s a viscous mess of a cycle. The child is constantly unfulfilled due to sex and romance being the things that are uplifted most in society and not platonic ones with family and good friends. This may come from the puritan believe of touch and such being on par with that of romance but it’s also a bunch of different factors that make this whole issue.

This is why you hear a lot of men paying for sex workers just to have them cuddle and hug without any sex. Why would a man pay for a sex worker to hug and cuddle platonically if they had a decent home life? They wouldn’t be, that’s what. They’re so deprived of non sexual physical touch and things of the sort that they feel unfulfilled enough to have to pay for a total stranger to love and cuddle them for even a moment.
