[DOGSONG INTENSIFIES]
here's a few more Deltarune Monsterswap Kris doodles, and this time I'll toss a handful of related headcanons and tidbits below the cut!
- Kris's origins are unknown prior to Asriel finding them digging around in trash cans in front of the house when they were tiny; they seemed to have been living on their own for a while, eating anything they could get their paws on and avoiding strangers. they might not remember their time on the streets, but they still have a habit of eating weird things-- even when they're not really hungry. if you offer it to them they WILL eat it, that is both a promise and a threat.
- they initially didn't like to communicate outside of a variety of dog noises, and for the first couple years the Dreemurrs weren't actually sure if they could talk at all. they still tend to prefer growls, barks, and whines though, since many sounds used in everyday speech are a bit difficult for them to make and their paws lack the dexterity(and 1 finger) for some sign language. they can still talk though with a bit of effort, and may write out responses or spell in ASL if they're struggling too much with pronunciation. they struggle worse when frustrated or upset due to trying to speak through a growl.
- more of Kris's behaviors carry over from dogs and wolves than just their sounds and appearance; seeing if Susie's head can fit in their mouth once they're pals isn't just a goofy joke (though it's definitely a goofy joke on her part). it's actually their weird attempt at nibbling like a wolf-- a sign of affection and friendliness. nobody in Hometown actually knows enough about wolves to pick up on that, though, so they don't try it with anyone other than Susie since they know she won't panic. she just thinks it's the silliest thing ever.
- Kris is actually a monster loosely based on 'el cadejo,' a mythical dog spirit from Central America. whereas dark-furred cadejos are believed to be malevolent and dangerous beings, white-furred ones are seen as benevolent protectors and guides. their color palette swap between dark and light world references this; in the light world they have dark brown and tan fur with red eyes, but in the dark world they're white and silver-furred with blue eyes. notably, the dark cadejo is also associated with the devil-- paralleling Kris's devil horns they wore as a child. and likewise, their benevolent side is associated with angels, in line with the 'angel' that may or may not be the Player.

And heeeere are this year's traditional art summaries! :D
That was a good art year for Bisig!! I feel like I've finally developped an art style for her after all. Back in February I wrote that I "wasn't always 100% consistent with Bisig’s art style" but look where we are now! I'm sure it'll keep on evolving over time but I think the semi-lineless flat colours look finally settled and I'm really happy.
AND I MADE SOME COMIC PAGES AND THEY LOOK VERY NICE. MY PROUDEST DRAWING ACHIEVEMENT THIS YEAR. HURRAY. The mini-comic has 1822 notes as of writing and it's still absolutely wild to me. I've never had so many notes on original art before ;v;

Day 183!!! Two more expressions to go, then on to coloring! Which, tbh, I might actually decide not to do? Idk, we'll see. Maybe I'll even do it later or something. I'm honestly kind of sick of looking at this and want to be done with it, move on to something else XD Buuuut, I also told my roommate I'd be working on doing this challenge for one of the characters for the comic we're trying to do, so I feel obligated to at least do that. At some point. Maybe not next, but at some point.
Anyway, Rage turned out even better inked than sketched, I'm super happy with it. And I managed to adjust Excited to look a whole lot better. Still not quite how I picture it in my head, but my current skill level will only take me so far. I also tweaked Teasing a bit, can you tell the difference? I might make the same or similar adjustments with Disgusted. Again, idk, we'll see.

Randomly remembering a memory that you’ve forgotten and 100% did not want it back but also explains so many things sucks but at least you have more context suddenly as to why you’re like that.
#just remembered the first time a guy I didn’t know smacked my ass#you know without consent#was in elementary school and the local baseball field had just finished installing a playground#and I was old enough to play on it by myself while my parents watched the game#a bunch of kids were playing tag and I joined in#and one of the boys who was ‘it’ ran up behind me and hit my backside so hard#he just laughed and ran away#but I started crying and didn’t want to play anymore and left the playground#I didn’t even understand at the time why I was so upset other than getting hit#but now that i randomly got that memeory back it was def the fact that a random boy hit my backend#dang I really didn’t want to remember that but at least now I know a reason why growing up I wore a lot of clothes that hid my figure#and to this day prefer shirts and sweaters that cover my butt#(it’s def not the only reason but pretty sure that incident played a role)#not to trama dump but yeah I’m now sitting here with this memeory back playing on loop#not the worst thing that could have happened but def still and upsetting situation especially at that age#it was well over a decade ago maybe even close to two at this point since I can’t remember the exact age I was at the time
