What Exactly Do I Mean When I Say "Will is Jesus Christ?"
(or Why Will is the Chosen One)
Do I mean that Will is actually the second coming of Christ? Well, no, at least not in a literal sense. All I mean to say by this is that—
Will is the chosen one, and he is the hero of the story who is meant to save the world from the apocalypse.
Apocalypse imagery and references to Revelations is all over the place in season 4. The four victims representing the four horsemen of the apocalypse, Henry "One" effectively being a God-like figure, references to Revelations 1:8 regarding Henry, hell I'll go as far to say that Robin playing the trumpet at the beginning of the season is a nod to the sound of trumpets that is meant to signal the beginning of the apocalypse.
Tumblr media
The important thing about Revelations being that at the end of the day, the second coming of Jesus Christ, the chosen one, saves the day.
This really robust old post that I made, which was also one of my first theory posts, goes into detail on how Will fits the criteria of a Christ-figure, or a figure in literature or media that is allegorical to Jesus Christ. Will's biggest piece of evidence being his full on burial and resurrection in the first season.
If I'm talking about Christ-figures in the show then I should probably talk about El, who admittedly has much more in your face Christ-coding than Will does. Walking on water, performance of miracles, the mother who got pregnant out of strange circumstances, along with her own resurrection and so-on.
So then, if El clearly has more Christ-coding than Will, why am I placing the title of Jesus onto Will? Is it just because I like him more than El? Is it because I see Will as a more important character than El?
Just as a general disclaimer, I will admit that I do have a major Will bias, anyone who follows me knows that. He's been my favorite character since I first watched the show. Although, my labeling of him as the chosen one has nothing to do a dislike of El or a belief that she is not an important character. I love El, and it's plain to everyone that watches the show how important she is. However, I just don't believe that the chosen one who saves the day is what her arc is building towards.
They've been building up El's chosen one status while also quietly breaking it down in the background, in the same way that they've quietly been leaving bread crumbs pointing toward Will's Christ status while also seemingly suggesting that he isn't that important of a character. Why have a character tell El that she's "the cure," then make a point that she loses against Henry at the end of the season? Why sideline Will for the past two seasons, but throw in lines of dialogue pointing toward his involvement with the Upside Down?
What I believe they are going for is a classic bait-and-switch to subvert expectations in the final season. Lead the audience to believe one thing, while still leaving clues to suggest the other so that when the twist is revealed it doesn't come out of nowhere.
So what is El's arc actually about? I won't deny El's role in the final battle of the show, it's not like she's going to be completely sidelined, but I don't think that her saving the world on her own while everyone else watches is what her arc is building towards. The real core of her arc is El discovering who she is as a girl, rather than becoming a superhero.
I actually made a post awhile ago talking about El’s monster/superhero dichotomy, and it’s actually incredibly important to my argument. The post itself is more in depth, but tl:dr: El believes that she can either be a superhero or a monster, and bases her worth on her ability to save the world and others, an unfair expectation to place onto one girl.
If at the end of the season, El single-handedly saves the entire world, wouldn’t it feel counterintuitive to her arc? She needs to learn that her self worth doesn’t rely on her ability to save the world, and if she ends the show this way, it wouldn’t create a solution for her cyclical train of thought.
Furthermore, wouldn’t this ending be a bit expected, and even boring? This is what El has been doing for the past four seasons of the show. Continuing that pattern would only feel anticlimactic. From a writer’s pov, if you wanted the ending of you show to be dynamic and interesting, you would want to do something new.
So why do I think that Will is the chosen one?
It’s not like I’m pulling the chosen-one-Jesus-Christ label out of my ass just because I like Will. I actually do have many reasons to believe this.
The first one is the confirmation that Will is going to be a big part and focus for next season. It’s been theorized that this means Will is going to become a villian, and while I do love a good Will villian AU, there are many reasons I could list off as to why he wouldn’t become a villian. Without going into it all right now, let’s just say that it would not only go against what Will stands for, but also what the show itself stands for.
Even in show, we have signs pointing toward Will’s chosen status. Let’s start with the fact that Will is the one who kicks the entire show off in the first place, when he is taken by who we later learn to be Henry. Now, this could have just been wrong-place-wrong-time kind of thing, but given how much has been revealed has actually been part of a larger plan constructed by Henry, I highly doubt that mere coincidence is the case.
Let’s look at some more evidence within the fourth season. Let’s talk about the fact that, despite not even being present in Hawkins and gone for much of the supernatural action, Will is still being brought up by name and even implicated in the strangeness of the Upside Down.
Tumblr media
Do I think Will is gonna solo-kill Vecna in the climax of the show? Chosen one doesn’t mean only one. No, despite all my rambling about El not being the hero, I’m not gonna deny her importance to the supernatural plot. I think something else the show keeps building upon is the importance of support from friends and family— saving the world is likely gonna be a group effort. I do think, however, that Will possesses some kind of unique ability that is going to be crucial to winning.
What would being the hero mean for Will’s arc? Well, it would give him a sense of control that he hasn’t had before. Will has had a lot of agency and autonomy ripped from him in past seasons, and this would be his way of reclaiming that. It would be the perfect subversion of expectations as well. The character that everyone expects to be just the helpless victim, or hell even the villian, is the one who rises to become the hero who saves the day in his own way.

ORAITYY! HELOO DEAR! I hope you are doing fine <3. I was excited to see that ur request for match-ups are open :] I would like to ask for creepypasta match-up please!
I am A Campaigner (ENFP) and The Adorner (EFVL) and 7w6. In depth i am book smart but gullible as well as dense. My sister calls me "idiot" sometimes when I am dense for somethings…hah. I like to study until at one point i would just stay up until 3 am. I also would even drink coffee after 12 am. I have a RBF and i act like I have apathy. But if I dont tbh haha. If anyone i love is in trouble or something similar, I would help them. You wanna argue? Ok sure.I will definetely debate my thoughts lol. I will stand up for myself and what i am fighting for. I am the eldest child therefore i am very independent. To a point that, even if i really need help i dont try to get it. That's the problem with me :P
Height: 159 cm
I have Generalized Anxiety and Body Dismorphia (more to my face actually). So basically, i get anxious a lot about some things and my looks. My personality, uhhh mostly people find me complicated. But to me, I am neutral chaotic, book smart, stubborn, very curious, brutally honest and I have a bit of a anger issue but I am chill tho. I like to study, draw, listen to mucic, watch Youtube and Twitch! Also, I like anime and a fan of BTS. I go to boarding school and i can speak Japanese and Malay. I play Archery. What do I where?? At home i would just where a T-shirt and a blue jacket and some cozy pants.
Stuff that i like: + tall pepol
+ foooood (homemade at shop-made lmao)
+ drinks (favs are coffe and colaa)
+ people who like to spend time with me in any sort if way
+ art
+ M U S I C (anyy) + my favourite colors are black, midnight blue and gold
Stuff that i dont like: + slow people
+ annoying people that waste my time (if they are annoying in a fun way then thats fine)
+ bugs
Appearence? @ brown eyes (dark hazel-ish?) @ dark brown hair (it looks like brunette-ish under sun). My hair is short and it looks like Lee Joo Young's haircut.
Zodiac: Aries, moon is Taurus, Rising is Aquarius. And i am straight.
Aesthetic? Dark academia, Grunge (modern and 90s- ish, E-Girl) RIGHT, thats all from meee. Thank you for your Time <3 TAKE YOUR TIMEE i dont mind :D
Your matchup is... Masky!
[Disclaimer, if you're coming from the tags, this is part of a special event I am holding from November 17th to the 21st where I am accepting matchups from all fandoms I currently write for. Feel free to check out my 1K celebration masterlist here for rules during the window this event is open! If it's past the 21st midnight USA central time, do NOT send me a matchup. I will have to politely turn you down. Sorry </3]
In General
I'm choking bc I read this last night and in my hazy mind said "heh, Egirls are ruining Masky's life" and well, here we are. I never fight my intuition when it comes to these things and uh-
Things He Likes About You
I feel Tim actually really likes your aesthetic style, hence the e-girl thing. Dark academia too!! Also, Aries. Yes. Your dark hair and dark eyes make him really happy, I think Masky likes people with dark hair and dark eyes, making him smile. The things that you like are things he's really into minus the cola, but like, everything else yeah. You're book smart which is something he admires, curious and your honesty makes him weak in a good way. But, the section I really want to go off in is down below.
You Two As a Couple
Coffee dates are a thing between the two of you. 100%, it's undeniable. You being gullible makes him want to protect you tbh. He does worry that you stay up late but like, hey he stays up late too tf. I think Tim likes debating too - but like, about stupid things like if mint if a valid ice cream flavor or is bacon belongs with pancakes not genuinely important things. He'll have witty conversations with you. He doesn't mind that you're independent but he's a bit of a worrywart himself, so, you might get smothered by him once and a blue moon. I think Tim has body dismorphia as well, so he understands how to help you get through the night. He's good at taking care of people he loves, especially you. Tim has a pretty good limit on his patience, so he'll get to know you just fine, but like, be kind with him too. The honesty thing might need to be softened every now and then?? Tim has a slight ego and it gets bruised EASILY. Likes listening to music with you and will absolutely help you study. He doesn't get anime or BTS, but probably likes BTS songs and just won't admit it. Will give you his clothes and stuff. He's not like - tall tall, but he's tall enough. Will make you food from time to time.
Closing Thoughts/Other Things
Hi love bug, I read boarding school and I'm - I'm going to hope you're an adult/over 18,,,,,, bc otherwise- please not the hashing out again- I digress, hope you enjoy <3

Outskirts of the Capital, Cordonia-safehouse - 16 years ago
“Did...did that work?” Libby asked, flabbergasted.
“I dunno. Sounds like it did.” Maxwell said. “Look at us. First detectives, now electricians!”
“We're almost as multi- talented  as Hana.”
“Whoa, don't let a couple of successes go to your head.”
Libby watched as he plucked a twig from a nearby bush, turning it over in his fingers. A light breeze kicked up, rustling his careless brown hair.
She allowed herself to believe - just a fleeting thought - that they could always be as perfect as they were in that moment.
Everything inside of her was screaming  to kiss him and she found herself involuntarily leaning closer to his slouched figure.
“Listen, Libby…” he broke the silence between them.
“What's up?” She shook her head, her fantasy from a moment ago falling out of focus.
“I was so scared last night.”
“With assassins in the palace... I think everyone was.”
“No,” he began. He focused his gaze off into the forest surrounding the tiny cabin.
“not for my own safety. Well, I mean, partly for my own safety. But mostly, I was scared for you.”
Maxwell trained his eyes on her then, squinting against the sunlight. Libby took a step closer to him, only then did she notice the subtle sheen in his eyes.
“I laid awake all night wondering if you were okay. If you'd made it out of there alive. I tried to go back for you, but they wouldn't let me back into the ballroom.
   I don't.. I don't know what I would've done if I'd lost you, Blossom.”
Libby reached for his hand, gripping it as if she were holding on for dear life.
“But you didn't lose me, Maxwell.”
He gave her a weak, lopsided smile.
“I never want to spend another night wondering if I'm going to see you in the morning. Not knowing was awful. Libby, I lov- I can't lose you. If we left all of this...together...do you understand what I'm saying?”
She chewed over his words, unsure how to respond.
Her mind told her that he was speaking fairy tales. They could never run off into the sunset together, away from the fight that was no doubt brewing in Cordonia. Liam would need every ally he could rally by his side, and after everything he'd done for her- for both of them- her mind knew that staying was the right thing to do.
But her heart- her heart was soaring, thumping wildly in her chest at the thought of Maxwell being hers forever. They'd buy a small house somewhere with a white picket fence. She'd make him coffee while he cooked breakfast. They'd kiss each other sweetly as they left to began their day. He'd come home after work and they'd snuggle by the fireplace and…
Her face fell as she licked her lips.
   “We can't.” She said flatly.
Maxwell pressed his lips to her temple.
   “I know.” He whispered.
They stood in silence for a long time, both knowing that their friends were likely wondering where they were, but neither willing to let go of the other just yet.
“You know, Maxwell, I'm not going anywhere. Not ever. You'll never lose me.” Libby finally said.
********************
Valtoria, Cordonia - present day
“Penny for your thoughts?” Hana asked sliding into the stool beside her best friend  at the bar. Libby blinked away her memory, giving Hana and her husband a warm smile.
“The kids are actually having fun, I think.” Mark commented with a laugh.
“That's good. I'm glad Hana let me get away with a slightly more modern playlist.” The redhead chuckled.
“It was a compromise. I keep the string quartet for traditional songs, and you have your jazzy, retro whatever it is..”
“You two make a good team. I hope now that you've returned you'll stick around for awhile, Libby. Seeing you really makes Hana smile. Also, although I thoroughly enjoy our time at Valtoria, our estate in Whipstaff is...well empty.” Mark told her.
“I can't promise forever, but for a while at least. It don't really have much of a choice. I came back to do the right thing, Mark. The twins will need to be in Cordonia.”
Libby caught sight of Liam, Maxwell and Drake across the room. She watched them, deep in conversation.
Liam wore his characteristic “lost in thought” look, his forehead creasing as tapped his lips with his index finger. Drake was gesturing between Maxwell and the king, and Maxwell popped his neck flippantly. Whatever they were discussing, he obviously wanted no part in it.
“Where are the kids, anyway?” Libby asked. The three friends scanned the room before Mark pointed out. “There. At the table.” He said.
“Well hello there, cousin. Abel. Either of you care to introduce me to the new Lord and Lady?”
“Hey, Bartie. Sure thing. This is Emma,” McKenzie began gesturing to her friend. “And Will Scott, Lord and Lady of Valtoria. Guys this is my cousin, Barthelemy Beaumont, Lord of Ramsford. We call him Bartie.”
The youngest Beaumont male held out his hand to Will, giving it a firm shake before grasping Emma's hand and placing a brief kiss to the back of it.
“I'm surprised we've not met before as close as I've heard our parents once were. In fact, if I eavesdropped properly, your mother was once heralded as a Lady of House Beaumont. During King Liam's social season.”
Emma nodded enthusiastically. She remembered her mother's recount of her past in Cordonia word for word and to say she was excited to be starting her own adventure in the small Mediterranean country was an understatement.
“You can cut the shit, Bartie. These two are far from the pretentious assholes you're used to interacting with at these things.” Mack rolled her eyes.
Bartie's shoulders visibly slumped, almost like a balloon slowly deflating, and he flopped down in a chair next to Abel, slouching.
“Thank God. You never really know,do you?” He breathed a sigh of relief.
“No, you don't, and it's exhausting.” Abel agreed, elbows on his knees.
“Wait, so you're telling me that you always have to put on a show? Like with everyone you meet?” Emma questioned.
“They do. Ya know gotta make the House look good. Luckily, I'm not noble and my dad could give a shit less what this court thinks of him.” McKenzie remarked.
Will shot his sister a pained expression.
“I don't get it though. Why does anyone care?”
“That's this life, man. Everyone is constantly pretending to be something that they're not. Constantly trying to appear perfect. But it's all just a facade. Take a look around you. Everyone is smiling, sure, but how many are smizing?” Bartie spoke up.
  “Smizing?” Mack asked.
“Smiling so that it reaches your eyes. My mom says that all the time.” Will chimed in picking at the linen tablecloth.
“So don't you ever just want to leave? Like sneak away from these things? I'm sure no one would miss us.” Emma suggested and the others all perked up.
“Okay, Lady Valtoria. We're listening.” Abel told her as her cheeks flashed crimson.
Before Emma could respond, Libby approached the teenagers followed closely by King Liam and a brunette man that the blonde girl didn't recognize.
“Hello, kids. Could you excuse us a moment?” Libby asked. Abel, McKenzie, and Bartie nodded, each rising from their seats.
Maxwell planted his feet, slipping his hands in his pockets, fingering the pack of gum in one of them. He appraised the twins thoughtfully for the first time as they rose from the table at their mother's prompting.
His jaw went slack as he soaked in their features, noticing now how much Will looked just like himself at that age; and Emma strongly favored his treasured photos of his mother on her wedding day.
His eyes darted over each of them, thoughts racing as he swallowed hard. ‘Still,’ he thought to himself. ‘it doesn't mean much.’  Taking a deep breath he reminded himself that his mother, Claudia, had always been mistaken for Liam's mother, the late Queen Antonia. There was also the fact that Will's wide blue eyes were set on his face almost exactly like Liam's and the late King Constantine's.
Maxwell shifted his weight uncomfortably as he tried to calm his thoughts.
“Emma, Will, there are some people I'd like you to meet. This is King Liam of Cordonia.” Libby began. The broad shouldered young man dipped into a deep bow, his sister a delicate curtsy. Liam nodded to both of them, surveying each child for some kind of sign of parentage.
Emma's features we're graceful, but defined. Her one sided dimple reminded Liam of the identical one his father had had. Will, on the other hand, had the brightest “Rhys blue” eyes he had ever seen.
“A pleasure to meet you both.” He told them, his jaw tensing to try and hide his astonishment.
“And this is Lord Maxwell Beaumont of Ramsford.” Libby continued. The twins repeated the courtesies they'd shown to the king and Maxwell nodded.
“I'm sorry to stare,” he started, his tongue flicking out to nervously wet his lips. “It's just that you both look so much like your mother.”
Liam stared hard at Maxwell. He had known the man for all of their lives, but he couldn't recall the last time he'd truly looked at him. Immediately he noticed that Maxwell and the young man before him shared the same chiseled jawline. He also found himself transfixed by the obvious “Cupid's bow” shape of his old friend's upper lip, which both of Libby's twins shared.
Liam exhaled sharply, his analytical mind already beginning to prepare him for the very real possibility that he was, in fact, not the father of the children before him. Although only hours ago he had not even known of their existence, Liam found himself slightly disappointed by the thought.
“So one of you-I guess-is our dad, huh?” Will asked awkwardly, unable to stifle the urge.
Libby's eyes shot daggers into her son who immediately stared at his feet.
“It looks that way.” Maxwell said shooting a sideways glare at his former flame.
The tension was already thick, and growing thicker by the minute as Liam clapped Will playfully on the shoulder.
“Obviously we all have a lot to discuss in the coming days, but for tonight...perhaps I can interest you in a dance, young Emma?”
Emma batted her eyes bashfully as she nodded in agreement allowing the monarch to lead her to the floor.
A few hours later  Bartie sidled up next to Will and Abel. The ball was winding down now, but there was still a sizeable crowd.
“Hey Will, I was thinking about what your sister said earlier. Was wondering if you guys were really serious.”
“About sneaking out? Hell yeah. I can't wait to get out of here.”
Abel rested a hand on his friend's shoulder.
“This whole party must be kinda heavy for you and Emma.” He empathized and Will nodded.
“Well I had an idea.” Bartie smirked reaching into his pocket. “I managed to sneak into the estate car park and I found these. There's a Rolls Royce in there with our names on it...that is is you guys aren't chicken.”
“I'm game. Let's find Mack and Emma and get outta here.” Will agreed.
Before long the teenagers were barreling down a dark and winding road. Bartie was behind the wheel, as Will and Abel hung out if the back seat windows whooping and hollering. McKenzie and Emma had dialed the radio as loud as it would go shouting gleefully.
“Oh I've been shaken/ I love it when you go crazy/ you take all my inhibitions/ baby there's nothing holding me back!” They sang along with Shawn Mendez as they rounded yet another curve.
“Why have we never thought of doing this before, Mack? Good friends and old school music….this is the best!” Bartie shouted taking his eyes off of the tree-lined road for only a moment to glance at the girls both jammed into the front seat.
“I don't know, but I think it's a new tradition, Bart!” McKenzie beamed.
“Bartie! Bartie, watch out!” Will shouted just as a deer hopped into the road.
Bartie whipped his head back noticing the animal just in time to pull the wheel. The car flipped on two wheels as they skidded into a hard swerve and in the mayhem Bartie lost control entirely. The car careened off the road smashing head on into an old, thick tree.
Smoke billowed from the hood, the sickening sound of crunching metal and shattering glass echoing all around.
Will looked around in a daze, his eyes meeting Abel's. “Is everyone okay?” Bartie called.
“I- I can't feel my arm. Em? Em, I can't feel my arm.” Will began to panic, noticing now that the extremity was pinched between the newly mangled seats.
“Emma! Oh my God, Emma!!” McKenzie squealed. Will craned his neck trying desperately to find his sister. Peering between the seats he saw her crumpled, lifeless body in the front floorboard, head lolling against McKenzie's knees.
His eyes widened to the size of sand dollars as he shouted, “Fuck! Emma? Emma! Please wake up!”

Thoughts on chapter 152
Phewie! This chapter was probably very emotional to all of us, especially us Mirio and Big Three fans! I’ve just finished reading the new chapter and I myself, am all jittery and just sjdsdjksdk WOW this chapter is A LOT to digest. Feelings? What ARE THOSE. MIRIO. Mirio. A mirio chapter. The third one in a row which makes me go WOW but also kinda anxiously screaming and just. THIS MIGHT BE TOO PLOT INVOLVING TO MY TASTE but also I rly want that to happen and I’m thirsty for Mirio content so GIMME.
First of all I want to say that this chapter didn’t get to me to the fullest until I got to the flashback scenes, but I wanna try and calm myself and stay consistent with my commentary and hold my horses ahah. Before the chapter, there were three things I had in mind:
1st) something WILL happen to Mirio. (even if all the deathflags in his tag made me go eh, I still believed sth will happen.) And if it’s not death, it’s probably gonna be that he will lose his quirk, due to the last scene in ch 151 with the bullets.
2) It (the sth that happens) will be plotrelevant. We saw it coming. There was so much going up to that arc, and so much was relevant to Mirio, to introducing him, making him sb that Midoriya looks up to, sb who COULD have been like all might, kinda was, could have been what midoriya probably will be, sb who had a hard time but tries even harder. This all made it clear that the arc will have sth abt Mirio which will get the story going and have a greater impact on the storyline.
3) whatever WILL happen, I probably won’t like it due to my habit of picking favourites and not getting genuinely warm with the main-main cast (I’m so sorry, the third years caught my heart, even more than once...)
TL:DR - I analyze what Horikoshi is probably trying to do with Mirio’s character and why the stuff is happening that happened, while being extremely disappointed on how it was carried out. Also I don’t want Mirio to lose his quirk bc I think it’s so... unnecessary. Cheers.
(disclaimer: I’m trying to be critical while still enjoying Horikoshi’s work! Also I love Midoriya just a -- eh-- heads up...)
ALSO I WROTE THIS AT THE END OF THE DAY COMPLETELY EXHAUSTED PLS DONT MIND GRAMMAR OR ORTHOGRAPHIC MISTAKES THANKS
There was the whole debate going on, will Mirio die, will he live but “lose” something veery important to him, will he be able to save Eri but get harmed severely... So when I first saw the first few panels my first thought was “oh god he will def get shot and probably lose his quirk”. And that’s probably what would be the “big plottwist” that gets the story going and I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FEEL ABOUT THIS.
For one thing, I would absolutely love to get more “angst” for Mirio going, I love when my favourite boys experience some sort of pain and grow from it, but on the other hand he already had to go through so much to get where he was and become this strong so it feels a little unnecessary to make him lose his quirk completely. We already have All Might for that kind of storyline and there are plenty of other characters whose quirks could probably called “useless” but they prove that wrong. Not to forget that the whole point of boku no hero is that someone who is /quirkless/ can actually find a way to get one and become a hero this way... so yeah... this is why I conclude: A Midoriya/Mirio thing.
The whole point of Mirio “Lemillion” Togata existing in bnha is most likely to make Midoriya stand out as the pro hero to be as Mirio himself loses his quirk and experiences pain that way and I don’t like it one. damn. bit. People would probably disagree and I want to disagree myself but when I think back to earlier chapters when Mirio was just introduced, suddenly there is this whole new stuff about All Might and how Mirio was actually supposed to be his successor and there was a lot of drama (Midoriya even cried bc it was too much stress with all the stuff going on and the internship and then he wasn’t even meant to be the one? Well congrats Midoriya now Mirio doesn’t have one anyway...). It definitely was on Midoriya’s mind a lot and it was clear that there was supposed to be some kind of mentorship between the senpai and kouhai, both kind of successors of All Might.
We already had All Might losing his quirk dramatically, what even is the point?
The point is that Mirio is probably here to show that one can be a hero despite not having a quirk. And I would laugh my salty laugh if he manages what Midoriya couldn’t: become a hero without your favourite hero maigcally appearning from the sky and handing you his dna to become the protagonist of a super hero story. (oh wow my salt level is rising with writing this oops...)
Don’t get me wrong I love Midoriya with all my heart, I love his relationship with Mirio and that he finally has somebody to ask questions and hang out with a third year senpai. In fact I think it’s lovely. I’m just questioning whether it was really necessary to put Mirio in this position for dramatic effect. And what will Mirio do about it?
We don’t know the extent of Eri’s powers nor do we know if her qirk even fully manifested. She’s still a child, her quirk could be weak, her quirk could be something entirely different, or later in life she could even be able to grant quirks or give them back, however you want to see it. I would definitely love to see that, give Mirio his angsty arc where he overcomes his frustration and sadness and then Eri appears and helps him recover. If anyone would deserve it than Mirio.
Even more so after reading this chapter, and noticing all these panels of the flashback scenes (and GOD am I weak for childhood flasbacks aaaa MIRIO’S FATHER DJSDKJSD and the miritama childhood panel absolutely KILLED ME), it opened my eyes just how bad Mirio thinks of himself. How low of an opinion he has on himself. It was shocking because you get introduced to Tamaki and think “yeah, he feels so bad about himself, good that there is his buddy mirio to cheer him up”... JUST THAT IT’S ACTUALLY THE OTHER WAY ROUND. Tamaki might have felt inspired from Mirio to strive even harder bc of his hard-working attitude but boy does Mirio need all the cheering up from his friend.

I mean just LOOK AT THEM SOBS. This was actually my favourite part of the new chapter, that we get to see more of the Big Three’s origins and how they came to be friends. I always thought that Mirio and Tamaki were practically always a duo from point one since they started at UA and gradually Nejire appeared in their lives, but no, it’s actually Tamaki that stood out more in the beginning and so did Nejire.

It was actually so heart-warming for me to see Nejire talk to Tamaki first and be interested in his quirk. Mirio looks so adorable as he stands in the back, not rly sure what to do with himself, even if it’s also a little sad bc that was before they were the big three so he must have dealt with his own amount of self-doubts. Poor boy, but he’s not giving up!!
This is something very positive I find about bnha manga, the energy spent on showing characters back stories and interpersonal growth, even for villains and side characters. You don’t find that in every shonen manga and it’s a pleasant surprise (I’m talking abt beyond main cast-flashbacks here!).
And when Sir compliments him and tries to encourage him, he looked so happy and excited I honestly nearly cried.
So yeah, in my mind it’s still unlikely that Mirio will lose his quirk forever and never be abe to use it his whole life, but there is definitely something that happened to him that can’t return to the way it was before. The scene with Tamaki waking from his unconsciousness to worry about Mirio is kind of a proof to that. He worries about his friend, his gut feeling tells him that sth happened. And Miro himself was thinking about Tamaki and other people that are important to him.
About the last two panels, I honestly to god am very disappinted that for once, Mirio doesn’t get to end his angst chapter himself, but no Midoriya had to steal that spotlight from him. Because the oh so mighty protagonist appears, and saves his poor quirkless senpai from the hands of the villain and/or death. Like really. We really didn’t need that. What we wanted, at least after all that, was a Mirio that stood to the end, presevered, standing and not losing his hope, grasping Eri into his arms and carrying her to safetly (preferrably outside where he could be tended to too bc damn did you see those wounds...)
Alright those were my two hundred) coins, I am a salty Mirio fan who is curious about what turn his storyline will take.
