From the top!#In looking at the old doodle with a blushy Papyrus it looks like the only thing I ''redrew'' about it was the blush itself lol #And being a bit smiley #He's very cute when he's so distracted in battle haha leave him be he's very busy!#The second one was so fun! I was very stylistic with his lower jaw in the original :D The way he looks like an interlocked puzzle piece haha #I trust him he's definitely got this handled #Colour doodles! Red and blue boys! Tall and short long and stout <3 Love 'em #My two favourite colour tools my blood pen and my blue pencil ♪ I could've gone in with my various yellows but pfsh #A nice clean two-colour is very nice :) Or in Sans' case just blue haha #I was using the same blood pen in the original too! Well the same casing anyhow the ink has since been replaced hehe #Snuggling sleeping brothers <3 Another one that was digitally reconstructed! Hopefully it's not super obvious #Even back them I was doodling them sleeping on each other haha - Handplates was an influencing factor ♪#And now into the definitely-Handplates! I love how even in sleep Papyrus snores in capital letters and Sans in lowercase hehe #It's so cute! Sans will fall asleep at the drop of a hat but Papyrus is so much more obvious with his sleep!#Maybe it's like concentrated vs. evenly spread out haha #Babies!! Love them ;; That one was originally meant to be a comic panel but I got their posing wrong lol I misremembered #But they turned out so cute! Look at them!#I especially like Sans' super-glowing eye in the shade of Papyrus <3 Sweet lads #And a couple sleepy boys to practice skeletal profiles :) Nose? Teeth? They have a subtle silhouette but there are varying shapes!#I defaulted to a more chibi look on Sans tho haha his fused jaw and big eyes just give that kind of appearance ♪

I redrew that one scene of Masky from Entry #####! And I… don’t like it! I think it looks weird! And now my entire arm is sore! Me thinks that creating fully rendered pieces of fanart every day for the last week was not a good idea…

I did just uncover some old-ish Marble Hornets fanart from a while back though, so I may redraw a couple of those sometime soon (but maybe after my arm stops hurting, I think I should probably give it a break lol)

A Walk Down my Art Memory Lane!

Now that I’m thinking about my childhood Kirby art, I dug through my storage a bit and thought it’d be fun to share a few! Here are some of Baby Jojo’s drawings!

note: I was not active in any online Kirby art communities at the time and I never posted these anywhere so I made these drawings just for my own enjoyment hehehe.

These are probably among my earliest Kirby drawings. Most likely ~2008!! I must’ve been in fifth grade maybe…? The first picture is a very rare example of pre-2022 Dedede sightings in my art. Around 2010 I became embarrassed and frustrated about not being able to figure his shapes out. So I spent the next 12 years avoiding him at all costs and instead sticking to the safer things to draw, like nice round Bronto Burts or Waddle Dees. Who knew it would take me writing an entire comic about him in 2022 to finally learn to draw him in my style!! :P

The second picture speaks for itself lol. I was the girl who googled “maskless meta knight” back when we had no fancy 3D renderings of his face. Just edits of anime screenshots and fanart of him holding his mask/getting his mask stolen and looking at you with the biggest, pearliest, white eyes. JPEG artifacts littered these images like sprinkles on a cupcake. And I would giggle and squee with every one like the baby fangirl of Meta Knight I was. :3

This one was probably ~2009. Very ambitious piece for me at that age. I struggled with the perfect roundness of Kirby haha. I had just gotten these cool alphabet stencils and couldn’t wait to write “Kirby” everywhere with them. This was probably the complete catalogue of Kirby characters I had the ability to draw at that time. It’s funny to think about how Magolor wouldn’t exist for another two years when I drew this.

Hmm. Maybe I should redraw this one day as a fun honor for my younger self.

Triple Waddle Dees!! A rare but precious Sailor Dee sighting, and of course my sweet Bandana Dee. This was probably around 2011 after Return to Dreamland came out and I came to adore Bandee. :3

This is probably around 2012- some time after Mass Attack came out. I had this AU at the time where each of the 10 Kirbies from Mass Attack had their own personality trait from the original Kirby, and a permanent copy ability assigned to them. Hence the Spark Kirby having wings and a halo like in the game- where you get damaged and have to rescue the poor Angel Kirbies before you lose that life!

Also my Poppy Bro Jr OC that I don’t think I named at the time- but I redrew him recently and named him Allegro the Poppy Bro. I loved drawing his hair and his funny teeth :D

Finally, I redrew just a few of the characters from my old drawings tonight. Just doodling for fun, nothing serious. But it’s something my child self would be happy to know I could do.

Guess I’d better draw all the Dededes that Baby Jojo missed out on drawing!! Thank you to anyone who read to this point. I encourage anyone to draw things that would make their younger, baby self proud of you. ….even though I bet they already are proud of you. <3

Remember, as long as you keep drawing, you’ll improve at your pace! Just keep at it! You’ll notice that difference over the years!

I got really bogged down this weekend on my writing. This is always the thing that wrecked me about NaNoWriMo: 50k words is juuust enough so that I hit the self-doubt super hard.

It’s where I have enough of the world and the characters down so that I can see them clearly enough to recognize where they’re held together with chewing gum and hope. It’s where I can see the road ahead but also I’m on the edge of the first really big gaps that I just have to put 2x4’s over as a makeshift bridge and fill them in correctly later. The piece I need for that is stashed somewhere near the end of the book. It’s when I find spots in the story where the wiring isn’t hooked up yet and the lights are out so I kinda know three or four ways to get from point A to point B and I can’t see which one’s correct so I just have to kinda write them all (the correct answer has a chance at being a Frankenstein’s monster mishmash of all of them!)

It’s nice that my mom’s been reading the mess as I work on it because it means that I have someone to call and say “It’s trash but it’s still trash with potential, yeah?” and talk my way back to having the confidence to continue. Thanks, mom.

So.

Reminder to Self.

First drafts are The Stupidest Version. The characters get spontaneous amnesia. They know things that they shouldn’t. They try to ad lib instead of sticking to the script. The equipment you ordered for the set months ago isn’t here yet so you’re making do with an old fridge and some cardboard as a stand in but it’s really obviously just a fridge that says “warp core” on it in Sharpie. No one can keep a straight face around it. This is all going to get rewritten from scratch in a few months.

It’s the vomit draft. Sometimes (often) you get caught yammering for three hours about one of the character’s childhood and the camera was running the whole time. The characters can’t quite remember their lines or motivations so they repeat themselves five times in five different ways over five different scenes before someone yells “We got it already! Shut up!” You all explore the basement and the sub-basement before realizing that you don’t even need the -house- that you’re in, but you found a key down there that’ll help elsewhere and so it was worth the detour. Two characters don’t jive naturally yet so you either take them out for coffee or hand them nerf bats and engage with -that- for 2k words, coming out the other side all the wiser but with 2k words that will not make the cut. That’s fine. It still needs doing.

And it’s a sketch. I did a drawing earlier today where I drew, erased, and redrew a creature in the background no less than twenty times (at one point just covering the canvas in question marks out of frustration) before I finally figured out what I was doing. Same diff, but writing takes longer. It’s going to have construction lines and eraser marks all over the place, but later I can pick out the good lines and go from there.

Anyone who suggests that writing is anything but barely controlled chaos is, in my opinion, slightly bonkers. It’s herding cats that can phase through walls and travel in time, and in the meanwhile, all you have is a butterfly net with a hole in it.

And sometimes you just need a good pep talk to remind you that yes, it’s supposed to look this janky. Keep going.

ID LOVE TO TALK ABOUT MY COLORS YEA HI

Welcome to bennys color infodump!!!

OKOK so I always start with a base color!!! Sometimes it’s not even a color I’m going to use in the actual drawing I just use it so I don’t have to worry abt coloring outside the lines!!

Don’t mine the sketchy line art I just redrew a really old sketch of mine for the sake of the example🥺

AFTER THAT I use an airbrush in a color closer to the right corner of my color square thing! The colors I circled is the general area I stick to when coloring!! Whenever I shade I like to move my circle down a bit (yellow to orange, or orange to red, red to pink, etc)

then I put base colors!!! What the base colors are don’t really matter!! I have a habit of using colors near where I circled earlier, but again it doesn’t matter if they’re not as bright as the ones I use

I like to add little highlights and stuff using colors in the very right corner after that!! (It’s my fav area to use for colors all the brightest ones are there)

OKAY NOW WE CAN DO THE FUN STUFF!!! PICK A COLOR!! YOUR FAV COLOR IN THAT CORNER I KEEP TALKING ABOUT!!!! I picked pink. Now clip a layer and literally cover the whole art in it.

YAY!!!! I usually lower the opacity now!! I don’t like it normal, so I play around with filters to see how it interacts with my colors!! If I like how it looks with all the colors other than that, I go and change that color over this layer. For this piece I used luminosity. I’m not sure how other programs work though👍

OKAY NOW I SHADE FOR REALSIES!! I usually either use bright pink or bright blue for this!! Again, I use colors in my favorite little corner

ANNDDD now I get to use filters. I usually duplicate all my layers with color and combine them together so I can filter that version and lower the opacity of it without my colors being invisible

AND WITH THAT IM BASICALLY DONE!! I usually just use effects and clean up! Since this was a quick example it’s a bit of a mess but you get the idea!

redrew an old peice today! (on accident)

made this bc I had just watched s18 and was positively miffed at what they did to my blorbos, drew the poses and then realised I was redrawing a piece from august last year (which is under the cut), very proud of how the armour turned out, first time using colouring pencils on a sketch, details turned out a lil fuzzy so I recomend zooming in on parts lol, but apart from that I'm really proud of this, especailly comparing it to the old one, I've made a lot of progress :]

(also as much as I still love this piece, I do now look at it and cringe at bits, mostly how the colours are and how they blend into the lineart lol)
