Season 3 of Psych is making me a lot more emotional in my rewatch than I remember being when I watched it back in 2012
#only three eps into the season but man I can tell now this was when they started to buckle down on truly sincere moments#not that the earlier seasons didn’t have that either but man all three eps in s3 so far#have ended with character building Shawn moments#1) the whole thing about his mom and how it turns out she’s the one who left and it wasn’t Henry#2) him being 100% upfront with Abigail about why he left her that night back in hs (and also setting up the whole thing with Juliet ahdkshd)#and 3) the daredevil episode where he talks to the guy about how his family would want 6 more months with him rather than an insurance check#it’s all insane. and I know that Mr. Yang is coming at the end of this season too. the Psych writers showed UP#psych#white weasel talks

really wish people would read blog rules more, it makes running blogs like this very low reward and you feel like a machine if people aren't commenting and aren't even abiding by one of the, honestly, very few and politely phrased rules i even have

You ever do something not thinking much of it, but after you do it you realize it was actually like a genius move?
This happened to me with my story: Started it off with a fairly standard conflict; someone wants what Tuon has. But afterward I was like "Oh shit, this is a prime opportunity to show his unyielding guardianship!" But not only that, I also realized that it did a great job at reflecting his flaws and sort of foreshadowing them to the reader
Oh man THATS SO GOOD!! It is so nifty when things work out like that, I hear you- long story relatively short, you betcha.
I had something like that with Aeonian, my Tav for Baldur's Gate 3. One of their quirks that I put down on paper early on was that the places were their muscles would be are rock hard - mainly because of the fact that they're cramming a monolithically sized form's worth of matter down into a humanoid body thats eight times smaller, hence putting a lot of strain on their body as a whole, but also à la a statue for a physical form.
"Statue for a physical form.... death and rebirth themes*......statue made of rock. wait."
Because I cannot escape my hyperfixations, geology was thrown back in my face in whence I was immediately reminded of the ROCK CYCLE:
-which can be pretty well-applied to the whole death and rebirth thing, not to mention a nifty little guideline as to how their character arc can go as well as Aeonian's place as a story in of themselves (long story, involves statues though) and their tendency to 'erode' themselves per se if it means getting where they need to be. Metamorphosis also links pretty cleanly here too, not only because of the metamorphic rock and its processes but because of parallels between Aeonian (embodiment of death [at sea]) and Thanatos, the greek personification of death, who is usually represented by way of butterflies.
I'm real bad at explaining things so I apologize if none of this made a lick of sense, I promise it's a lot clearer in my head and please feel free to ask for clarity on anything!! this is probably some of my favorite character work I've done so far

Oh i am so mad at Roger. They settled with Rick at least but are still going with Roger.
#supertramp#roger keeps pulling the I did all the work but i promise you his music wouldn't have been as popular without the collective effort of all o#these people#like John wrote all of his own parts and often also made an insane amount of suggestions mostly for the better of songs#now rick isn't involved but his piano solo makes school and he also basically wrote more of it than roger anyway#but like the lawyers arguments also bring rick down again which roger likes to do so much#as if roger is the only reason supertramp even exists and managed this#without rick the band wouldn't even have existed#roger helped with a huge part of it but don't be so damn arrogant man#stupid piece of shit#i was mad about roger and rick about this lawsuit before tbf but it's news they settled with rick but it just seems in character Roger#is not relenting while there's clear proof over the agreements the royalties were not a gift but something in contract#initially only Rick and Roger would get something and the rest would literally just get a barely liveable salary#imagine pouring everything into a band and being met in return with this absolute bullshit#and then dougie accused bob and John for continuing to tour with rick solely cuz of the money cuz he left supertramp cuz of his loyalty to#roger which is insanely hypocritical to me but whatever#just glad the three of them are now coming together to do this#i wonder if John will be asked about it now cuz there's an actual article about it#first it was only court documents

the book i have been proofing for work might be the first proofing project i give up on before the end of the book
#its not the worst thing i've ever read but also it's not very good#and the longer it goes on the worse it gets#unoriginal premise. quippy characters. too many characters introduced for no reason. characters retelling shit we just read over and over#there's at least three instances where a plot twist is revealed in an aside with the BBEG the chapter before it twists so it has no teeth#every woman is sex crazed (but don't worry its their religion/training/method of seduction/etc etc)#there have just been chapters where the protagonist and his love interest end up naked for basically no reason#also the most overt “the main character is autistic actually wait he has a demon in him eating his emotions” bullshit#not to mention the most ham-fisted attempts at representation that just feel disingenuous#they just introduced another set of characters doing a completely different thing from the main party and I DON'T CARE. SHUT UP#me gnashing my fucking teeth: if i was the editor i would have cut everything in this section and this one and this line sucks and#i only have a hundred pages left and if it dicked me around for 400 pages just to set up a sequel i will do a violence#AND THEY KILLED THE ANIMAL COMPANION. #the two most agonising things a human can experience: starting 2 new classes tomorrow AND having to write a sex scene#the history class shouldn't be THAT hard all things considered#but the japanese class looks to be pretty intense#its three sessions in person plus 2 online classes per week#which is like...8 and a half hours a week i think??#then i have another (slightly less intensive) japanese class to do as well but that one starts on wednesday#i only have 4 different modules this term but yeah that japanese one is pretty hefty#granted the sex scene is entirely my own doing so i can't REALLY complain#but god. every time i start one i remember how utterly excruciating the last one was and why i said i would never do it again 😭#this one also has the unique distinction of being solely composed of characters whose anatomy i can concretely define#which may not sound like much but its certainly different to how i normally write these things#(i.e. w characters whose anatomy is left up to the reader's interpretation)#so you know. One of the biggest reasons I try to recruit all the characters in Three Houses isn’t just because I don’t want to kill them, but because if I do, I still have to go back to the monastery afterward. I still have to pass by their dorm rooms full of their belongings and know that’s where they spent their alone time and where they slept. I still have to pass by the spots they frequented the most. It’s not just the sad dialogue of characters reacting to the deaths, but passing by the spots I vividly remembered them hanging out at.
I realized this most in my first playthrough when I didn’t have the chance to recruit everyone and I accidently killed Raphael at Gronder. I didn’t have the enemy attack range turned on so I didn’t realize he was in range of attacking.
During an exploration, I was looking for Ignatz who was, unfortunately, in his dorm room... and I walked into the wrong room and into Raphael’s after he was killed and man that fuckin’ sucked! Feels bad but like, multiplied with big numbers, u kno??? ???
YES, IT’S A VIDEO GAME. YES, I HAVE HUMAN BEING FEELINGS ABOUT IT.

I'm pretty sure I got him on the absolute last week so literally on#the absolute last possible exploration for recruiting. I had Linhardt already so I was hellbent on getting Caspar#bc I didn't want them to have to be enemies. basically I'd watched the game online already before playing#bc I didn't own the game or a Switch for a while after the game was out. I knew the spot you fight them at#and that they're both in the same chapter as enemies if not recruited which meant that if I only got Linhardt#that Caspar would be alone as my enemy and he wouldn't even have his best buddy there AND they'd be enemies#also tho Raphael just hit hard because I may not consider him a fave at all but he was still a nice dude you know??? ??? ???#like he's just a regular nice guy vibing and like... realizing that gentle nice man was killed in war#and walking into his old room was SADS. very big sads#DCB Three Houses Stuff
