anyway the most underrated character in ethersea is hermine. i'd die on this hill but there's no one else on or even around this hill to kill me, that's how badly you're missing out on her. she's was a charismatic rebellious young royal that turned into the new world leader in a year. my girl basically overthrew the government and made a completely new, better system. and 25 year later she's still so cheerful and funny and hopeful and kind despite having, very literally, the weight of the world on her shoulders.

and her relationship with the every other character is sooo crazy like- finneas was her collaborator and friend/father figure and she lost him twice. when zoox said that finneas was in the lantern and she asked 'wh- where is he now?' she sounded like a little kid. literally heartbreaking. her causal 'well, i know you' to amber in the trial while amber's freaking out because this kid who was her neighbour on the shoreside is now the most powerful person in the city and she doesn't know how to behave around authority? hilarious. 'i never met a brinarr i didn't like' to zoox.. 'THAT'S ENOUGH' to koda. to a fucking god. are you kidding me?? she even shops at nermal's pile. she's perfect.

ITS BEEN A HELL OF A TWO MONTHS, YALL. Family problems, health problems, disabled problems, this summer sucks lol I read a lot this month thanks to the readathon, so I get some of the good brain juices from that little accomplishment. One month closer to my best friends wedding which I am so excited for, discovered I like mango so long as it’s not fresh (so candied, dried, jellied), figured out the right card combo to get high scores in SIF, there were good things peppered throughout the bad. Still wish life didn’t happen so fast.

I left non fiction books unrated because it feels weird to rate Real Things. SFAH is a very good resource, especially if you’re new to cooking. A lot of it was stuff I already new, but it had me thinking about it in different ways, which is always good. The recipes are also easy to follow and I love the pull out flavor charts.

I finished The Magnus Archives in May and I loved it so much it took everything I had not to immediately start it again. I still might though. I miss Jon and Martin and Basira and Melanie and

I listened to an entire season and then some of The Penumbra Podcast and decided it was Not For Me. It’s Fine and I see what they were going for, but I wasn’t enjoying it. Walks were no longer fun. I thought it was because I enjoyed TMA so much, I was comparing it, like when I was reading Project Hail Mary all I could think was “I’d rather be reading Murderbot”, but sometimes! That’s because the thing you’re consuming isn’t fun! And that’s okay! Also hated that it was a mostly funny and slapstick show and then they blew up a cat.

Started Alpha Sapphire, but I’m taking my time with it. Sapphire was my favorite game growing up, my best friend (WHO IS GETTING MARRIED I LOVE HER) gave it to me in sixth grade and I swear I put a good 900 hours into it AT LEAST. And then another, different also besty friend got me Alpha Sapphire for my birthday this year and I get to repeat the process. It means so much to me, my friends as always are a shining light in my life, I love yall so much.

I have stomach issues again and my mom is dealing with Gross Smells (don’t know if it’s covid related, neither of us ever tested positive), so food hasn’t been a big thing recently. The peach pie was less a pie and more a bowl of peaches with pie crust on top (can’t have a soggy bottom if you don’t have a bottom). It was still good and I still ate it all, don’t get me wrong, but it’s less fun when others can’t enjoy it with you.

July goals? I don’t know lol SIF finally closed up their anniversary events so I look forward to not playing that as often. I’d like to do some art this month since crocheting is still painful and cooking isn’t the same when it’s just me. I need a creative outlet. I need to send off a gift box and get wedding shoes (why is shoe shopping so hard), I want to read the stack of books on my desk (leftovers from the Readathon and library books and books I’m Maybe Feeling Like Reading), I’d like to do another puzzle, and since I’ve finally discovered a way that audibooks work for me, I can read AND puzzle at the same time! Life hacked!

Why do I associate like every character I've gotten for this bingo with red?? Anyway

She has so much going on! But we don't explore it very much. Like I guess in flashbacks we do but it's not properly and there is SO much background with her and amber but it's kind of hidden since that's the way Amber keeps it. I for one am excited to have an opportunity for fans to explore the missing pieces of the puzzle there, but I also feel like it was left behind intentionally. Who knows.

I don't think she's like the next big bad or anything at all, I think her and amber just have beef because of what happened to their friend and.. Amber's brother??? What the fuck was that a fever dream?

Rainer:

My love. My light. I need to think of her more because she is cool as hell! I really love that Travis introduced her as a character with a disability (WITH COOL MAGIC SHIT :D) but it was just part of her, not her whole deal. She is so sweet and a little creepy and I love her with my whole heart. And yes I will project onto her.

It's like it was cute how she had like a small crush on Fitz probably (from my perspective) but like it wasn't a Thing™ especially when Fitz showed he wasn't interested. And with him being canonically ace + headcanon aro, they just remind me of the way I was with a similar guy at the start of high school before realizing I was gay. I dunno I just thought of that parallel-- it's my headcanon and I'll project if I want to😌

What is there to say? She's just SUCH a character and she's fun but grounded and has so much love and anger and <3

She is so cool looking. She has pierced elf ears with like the cuff chain, and a cool red jacket and wears patterned tights and shit(all of which I have in my cosplay for her 🥰). But sometimes just messy hair and sweats and I love her just as much either way.

If she were real I would marry her and also be afraid of her. She's so powerful. She wouldn't hurt me though. Unless I was a prick.

I put kinda for screen time because I think the amount we got of her was like.. perfect? For what she needed to do? But yeah I do still wish for more of her but we have liveshows for that. And fan fics

I previously joked about her carrying a little dog with sunglasses in a handbag like legally blonde style and naming it Barry one of the cycles where he fucks up early on and dies and goes lich mode. I still want to draw it.

She is amazing on her own but I especially love her relationship to the other characters, and how she interacts with each of them, and really grounds Taako. It's just so special. It's easy to see why they all fell apart when she left.

uhhhhhhh well. in the years since consistent activity I have:

Started, Subscribed, and MSQ/Major sidequest Cleared FFXIV and it occupies my brain like a parasitic worm (but I love it) as goes most people who get into it it seems. For those wondering started with WHM and have run it through just about everything so I'm fairly confident I am at least Somewhat Competent in pretty much everything except Savage and Alexander raids (shudders in Eyes of the Creator if you know you know)

Not only that but have main 5 categories of battle class leveled- WHM for healer, PLD for tank, MNK for melee, DNC phys ranged, RDM caster

I should stop talking about FFXIV help

I think I've changed jobs??? still call center-based work boo been there two years and I Hate It Homie (but hey 16/hr without a degree is hard to beat)

my cringe ass ff.net is poised for deletion as I've got ebook back ups of everything I just can't commit yet (and might not have to since I hear. Gasping Dying rumors about ff.net being on last legs)

I've developed a hobby of making FEH wlw ships- Azura/Deirdre, Mathilda/Lilith, Nagi/Natasha, Felicia/Selena (sacred stones) to throw some out -and stubbornly want to write fic but can't seem to figure out how to finish it oops

also generally feel awkward posting on AO3 because I don't really agree with their "you can write fic of actual people" stance but also Where Else Post Fic but also jokes on me I can't finish fic anymore

speaking of I did contribute to a zine or two with the Invincible Zine group over on twitter a handful of Duo Unit scripts and a 5k one shot on the Horrors of Adrift Corrin

("Katie isn't that the "uwu" corrin alt that looks after baby azura what is possibly horrifying about that" you ask and to which I respond "eldritch horror of being a dream-based sentient clone made real babeyyyyyyyyyyyy" and I didn't even use all my concepts and ideas)

Genshin Impact made a character I finally was willing to eat the lore for Miss Shenhe I love you so much what a wlw icon I think I did reblog something of her earlier but yea love

Played through Persona 5 Royal was a good game but I have never seen a game Say So Much and Nothing At All at the same time while also contradicting itself (and somehow in 100+ hours of gameplay even on 2nd easiest difficulty and w/ a friend and a guide hello). Core cast is poggers tho love these high schoolers and I don't think anyone would be surprised to hear I love futaba the most

Have kinda accepted that I've fallen out of love with KH and frankly don't feel a lot of hype for 4. 3 was a solid gameplay entry with some neat use of worlds for the filler plot but the more time goes on the more disappointed I get with how it handled resolving anything from all the build up, shafting it in favor of setting up a game that doesn't even exist yet.

Because of this I REALLLLY loved Endwalker and was very happy to play it on release (oops back on XIV braincell)

I do miss RikuVen tho and think about how Re:Mind validated the hell out of me by confirming Riku hung out with the Wayfinders and to the lil guys out there making content big fucking salute I'm sorry I'm a bitter woman who couldn't handle expectations.

Have a wild ass idea about XIV/Fates crossover to give an excuse for Ysayle/Corrin to exist they are just about perfect together but can't quite figure out how to make a plot to justify it that I'm satisfied with

I made a quotes bot on twitter that may not last much longer but eh

Gotten really into The Oh Hellos not out of any christian love but moreso the lyrics are just (chef kiss)

TAZ Ethersea season one was. Okay? It started really strong but fell off like the shoreline which was. sad. I can hope season 2 learns better from the mistakes there but also can't be too mad improv-based storytelling is hard to 100% nail

is that everything? I think that's like everything. still me just now several years older and just a smidge wiser and man I'm gonna be 26 in like. a week.

Ethersea

I remember how excited I was for Grad based on the trailer, so I’m trying not to come into Ethersea with high expectations. I truly appreciate that it opened with how this is not a story about saving the world because I know for sure that confusing, apocalyptic stakes lessened my enjoyment of Amnesty.

(As for Grad, I quit around Mission: Imp Hospital because the whole campaign had begun to feel like a chore. I tuned in for the last two episodes and have no interest to see what I missed. Mostly I feel bad for Clint because he had a great character and kept trying, in spite of not being allowed to use sneak attack when he could—to quote a Book Castle guardian: “Sneak attack has nothing to do with stealth rolls and everything to do with whether or not the rogue has advantage on their attack or are fighting with friends nearby.”—or that the DM told him how his character felt at the culmination of his arc or that he never got to role play as a kitten or… I digress.)

The world presented in this feels really neat. The choice of The Quiet Year looks like it will really benefit and fill out the setting, which explains how none of the characters in the trailer are PCs. (I’m revisiting Marielda now, FWIW.)
