#i love when zelda games are fucked up and strange

majora's mask is so fun it's like. ah yes how should we follow up our popular fantasy adventure game with only vague dark undertones. i know. how about we bring back our child protagonist (who in the previous game was put in a magical coma for 7 years without warning and woke up in a 17 year old's body even though he was still only 10 and then had to save the entire world that had changed so much while he was sleeping and then at the end was sent BACK to the past so he could live out his childhood despite the fact that he has already seen far too much for a 10 year old boy) and send him into another (parallel? hallucination? who knows) land whose population is largely made up of people with the faces of those he already encountered in the first game but now completely different. then we'll add in a time limit of three days before the world ends, which he has to repeat again and again by using time travel to return to the start of the first day. he cannot break this cycle until he succeeds. none of the others know he is repeating the cycle. some know they're doomed, others try and fail to escape before the world ends, others refuse to believe it. our other central mechanic is his collection of masks, some of which canonically contain the souls of dead creatures and forcibly transform him into them when he puts the mask on, which is heavily implied to be painful. it is also suggested he is searching for his companion from the first game who left him without warning at the end when this all starts. perfect

Linked Universe / GN!Reader - Random Headcanons abt the Chain! :)
Part 1 / Part 2 (ur here!) / Part 3
Tumblr media
Sun: Reader (you/they/them)
Orbit: Headcanons-ish
Stars: Hyrule, Time, Fierce Deity, Twilight, Warriors
Comets & Meteors: Content Warnings: light cussing, & Trigger Warnings: none known.
Hyrule (The Legend of Zelda - OG game, Zelda II: Adventures of Link):
Lost easily, obviously, you know this
What you didnt know was that its very easy to get lost with him
Bc he's so excited/curious for new sights he doesnt give any fucks abt where he is, so it devolves into that "wait, I thought YOU were leading us there?? Then where tf are we??!!" very quickly
Does feel bad he stressed u out smtimes but he somehow manages to get into such wild shit that Hyrule's kinda preoccupied being confused/amazed/finding his way out, or any combo of these situations (once again, usually with you unfortunately)
Is the luckiest when it comes to getting lost or anything to do with "natural" things
Like he heard u rlly like this one fruit? Accidentally gets lost all day and panics all the Links + You until he shows up at midnight with a shirtful of them
("I found a few fruit trees/plants in the woods while wandering! I tried to grab a few for you and before I knew it, it was dark, sorry...")
Likes learning little skills from other people, like learning how to do makeup from Legend, or how to spot collections of rupees the Minish have left somewhere from Four, or how walk on any terrain from Wind (good at walking on a ship, on land, climbing etc)
More of a "sunset" hiker than a "sunrise" one
Likes to do your hair! Whether that be braiding, putting accessories (he handmade shhh) thruout it, or helping with hair maintenance, likes how strangely intimate but domestic it feels together with you (u return the favor ofc)
(All the other heroes are looking at you both like kicked puppies jfcccc🙄)
Time (Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask):
Gets anxious if he's late to things, likes being fashionably early (or ungodly, when u let him get away with it)
Has absolutely been that meme from Parks and Recreation where he's like "Alright. I'm not mad, I just wanna know. Who broke it?"
(Abt the coffee pot for the camp)
Knowing full and well-
"I broke it. It burnt my coffee for the 3rd morning in a row, so I punched it. I predict 10 minutes from now they'll be at each other's throats with war paint on their faces and a moblin head on a stick. ...good. It was getting a little chummy around here."
MF LOVES GOSSIP (wouldn't admit this even at swordpoint)
Wars has absolutely been the person in the meme of:
Wars: "...why would you tell me this??"
Time: "Bc no one will ever believe you."
Wars: ...😦
Has a resting bitch face and knows it, actively cultivates it, scary dog privileges for you,
Type to take ur side in whatever situation ur in, even when Time has no idea whats going on, always, without question <3
The same height as First, (Twi's a close 2nd), and feels most secure when the 3 of you are at the front of the group, but First/Time are slightly in front of you
Like ur literally the person walking their 2 huge scary doobermans/mastiffs one leash in each hand basically 💀
(Once again, Link is deeply comforted by ur voice just over his shoulder/just hearing u even without seeing you)
Very subtly sarcastic, u dont even know he made a dig at you until 3-5 business days later
Likes ur sarcasm more than anyone else's in the group, or even his own lol
Fierce Deity (Majora's Mask):
Likes music, any music (amused at drunk karaoke)
Casually cradles ur arms or back whenever ur falling asleep/tripping/being clumsy near him
Very warm and smoothed calloused hands
Thinks abt what he's about to say so hard/long, that the conversation's moved on by like, 3 rounds/subject changes by the time he's actually ready to talk
Scolds ppl (in like a sentence) who neglect their needs, like sleeping/eating/hygiene
Finds peace in nature, if hes ever upset, u can bet he's already taking a walk by a stream
Likes teaching u/other Links little skills he has, its nice to feel appreciated/needed for something other than fighting or big moments
He falls in love with small moments, like the first time u made them all a dessert recipe from ur world, or repaired First's scarf (for the millioneth time) and bc everyone had gotten their clothes scratched up, everyone needed repairs so most Links were sewing smth lol
Enjoys watching ppl experience smth for the first time, or even himself exp smth for first time
Fierce smiled fully for the first time when you got into the mountain hot springs in Wild's Hyrule for the first time and were super excited
Also the type to hold ur hand while stepping in to make sure u dont fall, or just subtly boost a Link that was abt to fall from climbing smth
Like for being the tallest, he's surprisingly sneaky, the energy of the biggest cat in the house yet somehow also the quietest
Does that thing where someone takes ur hand and like massages ur fingers, palm, wrist and shakes them out kinda for you <3
Twilight (Twilight Princess):
Trips UP the stairs.
Cold start LMAO
ok ill be nice to him,, sike
Easy to bully?? U mean that kindly, he's just such a golden retriever sometimes u cant help urself (tho u make sure to reign it in and not take advantage of it so as not to genuninely hurt him)
Lol likes to "herd" his favorite people, like those dogs livestock farmers have u kno that they say end up herding their owners/their family lol
Like making subtle circles around the Chain, wrapping an arm around Hyrule and teasing him to quietly bring him back into the group before he gets lost,
Tugs on Time's armor to slow him down, mf may be in armor head to toe but he'll outpace all of u 💀
Likes to put his hand on ur lower back to guide u back into the group from whatever scenic thing u got distracted by
(so sue you, ur literally in The Legend of Zelda's Hyrule, surrounded by pretty blondes, why tf wouldnt you be distracted all the time??)
The only time he doesnt herd actively is in Ordon, just subconciously lol <3
Terrible sleep schedule, but sleeps like the dead when he does, has collapsed with a limb on top of you and u couldnt escape
Hard time waking up in the morning despite being country boy, who usually have to do chores first thing in morning on a farm
hates/envious of Wild (up at 5am even on days off?? Foul.)
Runs warm, but complains abt a slight breeze?
Would sleep with no covers if it werent for morning dew
Wishes cats liked him more (its the wolf smell)
Twi has the constant energy of a tall person carefully maneuvering around cluttered/low doorways while someone a head shorter runs by him and bounces off of him
U get onto/scold the Links and he's immediately the first to just sit on the ground, or put down whatever he's holding no matter what he's doing LMAO 😭😭
Keeps his eyes on u too the whole time lol
Warriors (Hyrule Warriors):
Cries over romance novels/dramas
A virgo in all stereotypes of the word tbh
Invented the red-string conspiracy theory board before the red-string conspiracy board existed in Hyrule
Also likes to take care of your hair! (What?? He and 'Rulie don't fight over ur hair, that'd be childish, he's not a foolish boy- Hyrule, hand over the brush.👹)
Remembers the little things abt u type of person, like ur favorite drink, ur favorite stories like tv shows/books even if theyre from ur world, ur favorite clothing pieces like shorts vs. pants, etc.
The only Link who can single handedly claim he could take your closet and dress you in something you'd actually wear.
Honestly once he got the hang of it, would get better at dressing you, than you
(Another domestic thing he adores, picking outfits for u/finding that perfect piece of clothing you've been needing lately)
Born to night-owl, forced to morning-bird 😔
Wars wakes up stiff sometimes bc soldier training is sleeping on ur back, hands to ur sides, laying straight in ur bed, so as to fit into bunks/bedrolls close together
It got better as he was promoted to Captain, so he could have his own quarters but its still a hard habit to shake
One of the few Links who works up the courage to genuinely pitfully ask if you'd mind massaging his shoulders again? He slept badly last night, please?? 🥺👉👈
(Ur so weak for pathetic hurting pretty blonde twinks lol)
The most lowkey abt taking care of Chain, but u make sure to take care of him as a gift back, and you've definitely caught him tearing up abt it 💖
Debated writing smth else first but figured this was easy and short and i started it first so youll have to wait like one more post before more Masc Reader stuff guys 😔
Dw its coming, i havent abandoned u my homies out there 🫂
Let me know what u think in the comments of my slight characterizations here!
Im struggling to conceptualize their personalities so thats acc part of why i started to write smaller stuff like this first! :)
Peace out,
🌙

My silly little Link headcannons
hii again I'm very bored rn sooo
again for Zelda, it's only the major ones, sorry obscure link fans
Tumblr media
also wtf is this gif I found 😭😭
Skyward Sword
Tumblr media
✯has the biggest crush on his Zelda bc they're so close
✯like it's VERY obvious how they feel about eachother
✯His fav flavour of ice cream is Oreo ice cream but he also loves toffee and vanilla too
✯He can talk but he prefers sign language (dialect of sign language may vary on preference ((like ASL or BSL or LSE, ect)) ) and talks to save time in an emergency in case the other person may not know sign, but DOES sign if they do
For this one, I thought about the cutscenes where he's explaining something (like the current location or condition of Zelda) to another character and we can see his mouth moving.
✯no because if video games existed in skyloft, i just know that he's playing stardew valley and papas freezeria. I can feel it in my BONES
✯Definitely woke up under his bed once and hit his head on the bedframe
✯him and Groose have insult battles but then they get ice cream together after
Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask
Tumblr media
✯somebody get this poor boy a therapist and a hug PLEASE
Twilight Princess
✯it felt natural to him when he transformed using the Zora mask in mm, because both the models for adult link and Zora link are the same size
✯mute
✯i think he played the ocarina like a recorder (aka with no experience at all) and did each note individually and the magic of the ocarina of time was probably like "there is NO WAY that I'm letting this kid tarnish my reputation goddamit" and made the songs sound nicer after he had played all the notes
✯forgot once that he was a kid again and walked to Romani ranch to get some chateau Romani and was genuinely surprised when Cremia said no
Tumblr media
✯Had more of a genuine connection to Midna, but still had a friendship with princess Zelda
Wind Waker
✯felt a strange familial connection to the hero of shades when he met him and made link want to find out who the hero of shades was
✯does NOT like how short he is when he transforms into a wolf
✯Best poker face in history
Tumblr media
Breath of the Wild
✯Gives Aryll piggybacks when she wants
✯would gladly eat his grandma's soup for the rest of his life
✯His grandma gave him the recipe to her soup when he left to discover the new Hyrule
✯Has the most major and unhidable (that's not a word but who cares) side eye in the history of time
✯If the events of WW didn't happen, I think he would have grown up to be a cartographer or he would REALLY like making his own maps
✯sorry to get all angsty but I don't think he wanted to kill Ganondorf. I just don't. I don't think either of them wanted to kill eachother. I feel like Link feels guilty about it because it's so obvious that it was only self defense after the triforce was touched by king Daphnes and it literally drove Ganondorf insane
Tbh I'd go crazy too if something I had wanted so badly got taken by another person even tho I literally got SEALED IN ANOTHER FUCKING REALM FOR A LONG AMOUNT OF TIME for it
Again sorry for no totk for this one pls no spoilers
Tumblr media
✯Gets ambushed by Yiga so many times that he knows their names
*Yiga poofs into existence* "IM HERE TO KILL YOU LINK, IN REVENGE FOR MASTER KOHGA!!!!"
"oh hi jerry, nice weather eh?" -link
✯After he saved princess Zelda, he took a nap that lasted 4 ENTIRE days
✯not even the sound of kass' accordion could wake his ass up
✯very obvious but if he wasn't a knight, he would be a chef. Not sous chef. He would be head chef.
✯His hands are probably rough as hell from all that Hero Of Hyrule™-ing he has done
✯despite being able to lift heavy objects, his arms are still noodles

how long have you been watching wakfu
Hey moth ✨✨
I’ve actually been watching Wakfu since 2012.
The first time I heard about it was when I used to have Netflix and even then, that was back when the streaming platform didn’t have Season 2 yet lol
What drew me into watching it was mainly cuz of the cover. This one specifically 👇
Tumblr media
It used to only show Yugo opening a portal and because of the style, it made me wonder what the story could be about (at the time I used to think Yugo looked pretty cute so that was also another reason lol).
I remember how my first instinct was switch the language to English when I first watched it. THAT WAS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE. The reason why I switched it for english tho was because netflix was primarily English so I thought that the French language of Wakfu wasn’t the main one (and I thought it sucked without even taking a second to listen to it 💀 ) Thankfully, as soon as I heard Alibert and Ruel talking, I IMMEDIATELY went back to the settings cuz I knew I fucked up. I ain’t listening to this trash again lol
So I switched it to French and i realized it was a thousand times BETTER than the English version. That’s when I realized Wakfu was french.
I loved the places and the people. It was something I’ve never seen before. The French dubbing was so smooth and funny I loved it so much. The “fillers”, which let’s be honest weren’t actual fillers, were also so fun to see with the whole gang.
Even at the time, I used to believe there would eventually be something between Amalia and Yugo lol cuz ain’t no way you guys constantly hug like this for the dumbest reasons.
When Season 1 ended, I really hoped they weren’t gonna do us like that because I really wanted a season season. At the time I didn’t think ankama already did Season 2 (since 2011 💀) cuz I thought Netflix was always on time so it took me some time to wait for it but a year passed by and it finally got here!! I was so happy that day you had no idea. I had to wait for a whole year before it dropped so my ass was pretty much traumatized after seeing Dally die for the first time I legit thought that he was gonna come back cuz of Nox’s machine but nope 💀 I remember being so sad when I first saw that ending. I really didn’t want it to end, I got too attached to these guys (Amalia was still my favorite back then cuz she was too relatable)
So i watched Season 2 in 2013 AND I LOVED IT. Again, they couldn’t disappoint me. It just got better from that day on.
That’s when I slowly started to dig deeper into Wakfu because there were so many references to things that Yugo and the others were saying that I didn’t even understand. I then learned that Wakfu was based on an MMORPG with the same name,Wakfu, and that there was a prequel to it, Dofus. I also saw how they even had a side story called “Mini Wakfu” which were just shorts from Season 1. I watched that mini series on youtube back then.
Because of Season 2, I was now sure that there will be more to it because so much has been said and yet so little has been explored. So I waited, bought myself some time by watching other shows.
That’s when the ovas happened.
And oh my god I was not ready for it.
The ovas released in 2016 on Netflix but had already been a thing since 2014. Blame Netflix.
And again, there were so much more references that made me feel so confused like who Otomaï was, Ogrest (who was only a giant mention in Season 1 to me), Maskemane, Echo, Sipho, Harebourg, etc.
I was confused but so intrigued because it made me learn that the Krosmoz was A LOT BIGGER than what I thought it would be. And that’s what I like. I love how a story has multiple timelines, has complex strange plot holes in certain places that makes you want to become a theorizer, has so many diverse characters and relationships. Things like those are why I fell in love with the legend of Zelda and fnaf franchises.
That’s how I learned about the mangas, comics, different games (Dofus, Wakfu, Krosmaga, Dofus touch, minor Dofus games on the App Store, etc.) as well as cancelled games (Islands of Wakfu, Wakfu: Les Gardiens, etc). I even started learning more about the Dofus era by going through Dofus shows like “Dofus : Kerub’s Bazaar”.
Right after the ovas, I watched Goultard’s special episode, Ogrest’s special episode, and Nox’s special episode. Then, I saw the Dofus movie featuring Joris and his mom before watching the show. After, I read the wakfu manga that was supposed to situate itself between Season 2 and the ovas. At the time, there were only four volumes so I binge read them all on a google drive that someone was kind enough to share publicly (that google drive doesn’t exist anymore). All of this happened in 2016 btw.
After that, I waited for more news of Wakfu but my dumbass got sidetracked because of binge watching other shows while waiting. I was joining multiplie fandoms while unconsciously waiting for more of Ankama. And that’s how I missed Season 3 that came out in 2017 💀💀 I’m so dumb my god all I had to do was wait another year but noooo youtube had to show me the new season trailer in 2018 instead!
I went back to Netflix, freaking the hell out, binge watched the whole season, got emotional, loved Oropo for kissing Amalia cuz I knew there’d be drama, absolutely adored the whole percedal family being a family, trying not to laugh at Adamaï’s look for the first time, expecting Ruel to get hard over money, and LOVED the drama between Yugo and Amalia. I WAS A FAN OF THEIR SHIP SINCE SEASON 1 FOR CRYING OUT LOUD which is why I was so happy that we finally got to see so much more of their problems being addressed.
After that, I knew I needed more so I went back to reading comics. I bought the actual volumes 1 to 4 of the wakfu manga (because I wanted to have a physical copy of them even though I already read the story) and then waited for the fifth one. As soon as volume 5 released in 2019 (July 4), I TOOK IT FROM AMAZON’S HANDS CUZ VOLUME 4 WAS KILLING ME WITH IT’S ENDING- (I’ve been waiting since 2016, I wasn’t gonna wait any longer).
In 2020, I joined the best wakfu amino on the amino app, and then mainly went looking for Ankama related things like their anime Radiant (I started reading the manga first and ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT FOR ITS ORIGINALITY. But I still can’t believe that it got released back in 2013 tho…) and then watched the anime that came out for it (the opening song was good but I hate how the anime changed some things to the story. The manga is better but the anime gets its fair share of popularity so I guess that’s good).
In 2021-2022 I think that’s where I heard about the kickstarter for Wakfu Season 4 and I was mind blown when I saw the trailer for it.
In 2023, I bought Ogrest’s volumes 1 to 4 because I’ve been waiting to read and know more about Ogrest and what was the deal with the Sadida dolls since I heard about those from some people. My god the manga was so good!! I’m still waiting for that volume 5 but I’m extremely certain that it will come very soon now since Mig, the illustrator for the Ogrest manga, has been giving small sneak peeks here and there lately. It was also in the same year that I learned about the One More Gate game and watched Oropo’s special episode.
Then came 2024. And that’s where I went ape shit. Now you know everything ✨
The latest thing I bought from Ankama shop in 2024 now was the standard version of the Amalia figurine, the vinyl disc pack containing Krosmoz osts, and the Wakfu S3 artbook (tho the artbook was actually not something that you can find in the Ankama shop. I had to dig deep on Amazon and find a seller willing to give it away).
So yeah my history with Wakfu is a pretty messy one and has always been all over the place mainly because I was so slow back then to realize when the releases were happening and how the lore was actually constructed lol
Like it took me so much time to understand that Wakfu was only one piece of a bigger puzzle set and being unaware of so many things back then is still something I tend to regret. I understand that it was because I was still a snotty kid back then who didn’t know much about the internet but I can’t help myself to think how easy it was to keep up the pace 💀
At least I won’t have to think I’m late anymore because I’ve got a better idea of how it all works now.
Wakfu has been playing a huge part in my life because it’s always been at the back of my mind no matter what fandom I was in at the time. Sure, it was at the back burner but I never had the intention of forgetting about it. It holds way too many memories of the simpler times and has a lot of great ideas I think I’ve never seen other shows have.

Okay, so thoughts on the Legend of Zelda and religion, inspired by gameplay and seeing how people incorporate the multiple goddesses and such into their fics.
Usual disclaimer applies: these are only my random thoughts, which are open to change, and Legend of Zelda canon is deliberately inconsistent and definitely apt to change. Everyone is free to interpret it however they want with whatever headcanons they want, as no one can ever be truly correct because no solid LoZ canon exists.
Now, onto really random thoughts, most occurring in the shower or before bedtime:
In some Zelda games, no gods are mentioned at all. Others, they're very vague. Others say some deities and then another provides a different deity and some others reference that this being was perhaps a deity but has fallen and this one might STILL be a deity so good luck.
I like to say that they're all fucking deities. Maybe some more powerful than others, but they're all deities. Some divine, some profane, some really interested in carrot soup, but all are deities.
Demise? A deity. Earth-based, unholy, so full of rage and spite that he's willing to guarantee an eternal foe as long as it means that foe is dragged into this mess with him, aka, the Cycle of Hatred. Strange affection for mortal Gerudo men, whether these guys like it or not.
The Triad: Farore, Nayru, and Din. They created Hyrule, created the Triforce, still have a Presence connected to their Creation as shown by the oracles and spirits and such which have popped up over the centuries. Definitely separate, though. Loves their Creation in a divine, untouched manner. Set up a lesser Goddess to protect their Creation and the Triforce they left behind, which leads us to...
Hylia. Before it was Hyrule, it was the Land of Hylia. Divine. A little too Divine. Needed mortal weapons and mortal Heroes to kill the Earth-based deity Demise. Here are my headcanons on her based on the ever-erratic canon and the Skyward Sword manga: she realized she couldn't win alone and needed a mortal Hero. Again, a little too heavenly to tackle an earth-based deity like Demise. I like imagining her falling for the original Hero, which was one of the factors which led her to having the Fallen Hero reincarnated as the Hero in Skyward Sword. They were supposed to live a mortal lifetime together, albeit one where Hylia used him to fight Demise for the Greater Good, as deities like to do, only for Demise to say "Fuck that, here's the Cycle of Hatred." From then on, she loses her Mortal Love, as the Cycle of Hatred says "the Spirit of the Hero and the Bloodline of the Goddess" (paraphrased). When SS!Zelda dies, Hylia returns to the Heavens, her bloodline continues to carry her blood, and she gets separated because the Spirit of the Hero is now trapped by the Curse. (I like angst, dammit, and that type of eternal separation, especially multiple carriers of the Hero's Spirit are unfamiliar with Hylia, is amazing.)
Other deities pop up in the games. I say they're all deities. These games literally occur over hundreds of thousands of years. Hyrule has risen and fallen and risen and fallen multiple times. It literally exists only due to divine intervention. Hyrule and its people have no idea of their own history and myths. The ones we see in the games are the ones popular in that current era.
There's also the fact that we tend to see everything through Link's perspective, and he seems far more interested in shiny objects and, I dunno, riding/taming/bargaining with the spirits than finding out their histories.
In one era, we don't see mention of the Triad? That generation lost sight of them, but they're reminded a couple generations down the line. Hylia isn't mentioned? She'll come up again soon enough. There's also no indication that any of these deities demand worship. They can be responsive to prayers, but the connection to the deities waver over time, too. Like, how does a human's connection compare to a Hylian's? Humans and Hylians are different species and can generally be recognized by the ears, with the ears of the Hylians supposedly shaped that way to better hear the deities.
Link can hear and respond to the deities, but it's arguable that it's connected to his role as Hero. They need mortal hands to get things done, and he is damned good at getting shit done and not likely to be distracted by, I dunno, a literal god asking him to do shit. Yes, yes, that deity gave him a request. He heard. He understood. It still needs to wait until he found all of these cuccos and returned them home.
More headcanon: it's known that the Royal Family has divine blood and rule by Divine Right. The meaning of this changes depending on the era. For some, it just means Princess Zelda is magical and wise. For others, she is a literal incarnation of the Goddess. The one most likely to speak with the deities and spirits -- Link -- is probably never going to clarify to anyone how it is. Hell, he's probably never going to care enough to ask.
Most eras have no idea about the Spirit of the Hero. Link's either a random hero who just popped up or a strange traveler. Sometimes he is a Prophesied Hero. Sometimes he is a Divine Weapon. Beyond his ability to be a fucking godslayer when necessary, I think it's easy for him to be dismissed. It's made easier when Link's like, "I'm out. I'll leave you guys to fix this rubble. Oh, what happened here? Hell if I know. Good luck." Connecting him to a Spirit which is literally older than Hyrule? Not happening. In OoT, he's recognized as Special and a Hero by a very rare few; otherwise, Link's just a traveler or that weird kid. In BotW, it's pretty clear that King Rhoam views him as just a holy weapon. In BotW, there's no indication that he even really speaks or looks at Link at all until he's a fucking ghost and unliving with regret. No elevation. Barely any notice. Just Link or Nameless Traveler.
In a land as old as Hyrule where deities like to traverse and poke, it's easy to imagine many deities calling it home at least for a period of time. Hell, maybe they don't even call it home but mess with the local deities at some point or another. Also considering how many apocalypses this land has experienced, it's easy to imagine that they can't have a consistent mythology or religion. It changes each era based on texts and art which survived the last round of destruction. Hell, even their major secret-keepers, the Sheikah, regularly struggle with attempted genocide. It's amazing anything survives with any sort of consistency, nonetheless knowledge about a war which existed before Hyrule itself did.

So because I am strange and always fascinated by posing cultural questions when it comes to creating crossover fanfiction, I had this wild thought worm recently for no reason: If you dumped Link (Legend of Zelda) into Thedas (Dragon Age), how the fuck would everyone in Thedas react to him?
I mean, depending on how you interpret Link's character, he doesn't talk. At all. I've always been of the opinion he speaks via some form of generalized Sign Language, but Why Would Thedas Share Any Common Signs? And who's to say there IS a formalized sign language in Thedas? Maybe there is, but it's technically a dead language now. The Elvhenan were fucked up but extremely modernized, so maybe they did have a Sign Language. Maybe the Dalish still have a lot of it, because Sign is a great way to silently communicate and Not Alert The Asshole Shemlen.
Either way, Link doesn't talk. And even if he can communicate via Sign Language, I highly doubt Hylian sign is gonna be understood. So there's one issue.
Secondly: Hylians don't look exactly like Theodosian elves. Modern elves of Thedas are scrawny and small but not too small; eyes bigger than a human and with cat-like night vision. Link? Link is canonically 5'2" and quite fit. Not skinny built and quite healthy, generally soft nonbinary features, bright eyes (at least in recent games; Link's got big fucking blues that almost glow for a nice contrast in TotK/BotW), pointy but not super pointy ears. Compared to Theodosian elves which are designed to look "distinctly fantastically different" in comparison to humans, Link just looks like a very short human with elf ears. So people might get a bit baffled at his looks; he's elfy but to the left.
Third: Hyrule isn't anti-magic. Magic is so inherently tied into everything in all the Legend of Zelda games, we the players just accept it. Link can wield magic rods and staves with no issue. Gerudo can use fire magic or summon lightning storms. Link can use magical items to summon winds, or devices that can magically transport him far distances. Rito can summon gales instinctually. Zora have water/ice magic and healing powers. If Link dodges correctly, he can seemingly slow time for a moment to deal a flurry attack. He uses Rauru's arm's magical abilities without blinking. The Master Sword is literally the ultimate magical item with a spirit inside of it.
Can you imagine Link losing his weapon in battle and just picking up a staff without thinking, but WHOOPS Thedas is kinda religiously anti-magic and someone is watching him just SUDDENLY THROWING ICE SPELLS (thinking about those magic staffs in BotW/TotK with the default AoE ice spell) without any hesitation? That is Not Normal for them like it is for Link. And Link himself like... Serves a powerful princess with the bloodline of a goddess. She literally tosses around light magic and time magic and shit. He probably can't begin to fathom a society that shuns something that so integral to Hyrule/Hyrule's safety in the face of Ganondorf's machinations.
Idk this was a bizarre thought worm I had. Maybe I will write a fanfic. Maybe I won't. It's interesting to think about in an extremely nerdy way, lol.
(also Link would HATE Solas but LOVE The Iron Bull and The Chargers. Prove me wrong, I dare you.)

Totk spoilers and speculation ramblings as I've just completed a main quest and am emotionally wrecked from it.
Zelda after her mom died when she was so young and her father Rhoam crushed her under the weight of his expectations and responsibilities finally found a mother and father figure who loved and cared about her and wanted the best for her. Sonia and Rauru did what Rhoam never could, they supported Zelda in what she wanted. And when Zelda gushed about Link, that look in Sonia's eyes and both her and Rauru's faces conveyed the intrigue and concern and doting love of two parents hearing about their daughter's clear crush on her best friend. Sonia saw Zelda as her own daughter and held so much love and warmth for her.
And then it was all too soon snatched away from them when Sonia was murdered by Ganondorf (what the fuck was that face he made tho like seriously wtf body horror alert). Zelda and Rauru had to bury the first queen of Hyrule and the first mother figure Zelda really had after the Calamity a century prior (because I absolutely think Urbosa also was a mother figure to Zelda too). The amount of grief and strife and trauma Zelda continuously goes through, the number of times she bonds with someone and they're killed or otherwise taken away from her, poor girl is Not Okay.
And Link, seeing these memories of Zelda and discovering her Fate in the distant past and having to hold that information close. He so far hasn't told anyone the truth of where Zelda went - who the fuck is going to believe him if he tells them the princess turned into a Dragon? Sure most people are willing to believe some wild claims coming from Link knowing who he is and what he deals with - Paya is quick to believe the claim that the Zelda seen across Hyrule giving strange orders is a demon king imposter. But the princess being a dragon feels like it may be a bit too far fetched even from Link.
The emotional pain Link must endure every time there's a lead on Zelda to find it's for naught, or worse, that it was a trap to try and kill him via the Yiga. The Yiga having the audacity to impersonate Zelda to get at Link must be so incredibly nerve-wracking for Link because all he wants is to find Zelda and bring her to safety and these bastards are using it against him. I wouldn't blame Link for turning evil in the way of not caring if the world burns if it means he can get Zelda back. I know the game implies the Yiga don't die and always poof away without actually dying but I know in my heart Link would kill the Yiga without mercy especially if they made the decision to impersonate Zelda or use her as bait. The Yiga are people, choosing to sew destruction, and the reformed Sheikah man in Kakariko is proof they have the capacity to be reformed, but I doubt that's at all on Link's agenda when he sees a Yiga blade master poof out of a disguise as Zelda and laughs at Link.
Master Kohga and the Yiga clan may largely be comic relief but their actions are so dark when you look beyond the slapstick and banana jokes.
And throughout it all, the real Zelda is robbed of her agency for the sake of her responsibility once again. She's so selfless that she literally gave up her sense of self and identity to save the world she knew. I'm sobbing. So is she, perpetually crying dragon.

I think the M2 dynamic that really works for me, is when Matt is headcanoned as a low-key boring guy. Like, he’s a genius, but he’s a boring genius. His IQ is high, he’s brilliant at most things, but all that comes out of his mouth is 2+ hour monologues on the history of Pac-Man (and I’m not calling videos games boring, but when you’re not a gamer, listening to people talk about the many tracks in Mario Cart means absolutely nothing, and I cannot imagine that Mello is a gamer). He fucking rehearsed what he was going to say to those cops if they caught him, like twenty times. In fact I laugh to think that Mello did not like Matt when they first met. But what Matt also is, that Mello is not, is patient and even tempered to a saintly degree. He just gets on with things without getting riled up about them. And Mello hates to admit that he loves and needs that. Matt is Mello’s emotional support dull person.
ALERT ALERT EVERYBODY THIS IS NOT A DRILL WE HAVE A WATPOST ABOUT M2.
This is so so so absolutely their dynamic LOOOOOOL he is Mello's strange little nerdy (my phone autocorrected to needy which is maybe true too LOL) boyfriend that's always like 😰 that seems like a bad idea dude. He scored well in all the subjects at Wammy's, and though he doesn't remember anything about them because he doesn't care, he can recite every canon factoid for every extant LoZ character and plot line. <- he has explained this to Mello at least 7 times, Mello likes to mess with him by pointing out Link and saying 👉 look it's Zelda. 😬
HE DEFINITELY PRACTICED HIS COOL GUY SPEECH IN THE MIRROR IT'S JUST CANON YOUR HONOR 😭 *putting him in bubble wrap to protect him from the evils of the outside world*
Also no I agree my hc is that Mello thought Matt was annoying/boring/kind of a goody two-shoes (read: didn't want to get thrown out of Wammy's for arson or whatever). But Matt was his best and only friend and he was cutely persistent lol. His patience and forgiveness kind of balance out Mello's hotheadedness and refusal to let go of any perceived slight lol. No matter how many times Mello pushed him away he kept coming back until Mello finally got it through his thick dumb skull that maybe he can be nice sometimes. I need to write more actual cute stuff about them LOL. I just love when they're perfect opposites that compliment and balance each other out <3 but also soulmates twin flames best friends the only ones who understand one another so devoted theyd die for each other etc. I WILL EXPLORE THIS DYNAMIC IN SOMETHING LESS EXPLICIT AND MORE FLUFFY SOON. <- BET.

some nattering about how I characterize Rauru and Sonia in my Ganondorf/Rauru fics.
as I have mentioned before, usually I prefer to adhere strictly to canon when writing fanfiction, to the extent that I used to think of myself as trying to write exactly what the author had in mind but didn't put in the story. yes, I have always been this pretentious.
but then I looked at what Rauru and Ganondorf have going on and went "ah, they need to have nasty, resentful, dubcon-at-best sex about this" and I'll be honest I'm not sure played-straight loz characters (vs. various permutations of joke characters) are even allowed to know sex exists, so this was obviously a departure.
which means that Questions of Kingship exists, in my mind at least, in a strange space that is both canon-compliant and AU, and I have made characterization choices based on the story I was telling rather than prioritizing sticking to what the game has in mind. And I don't think my readings are entirely wrong--do I think Nintendo intends their King of Light to be a rapist, no, but they sure did write a guy who disregards and tramples over an implicit "no." This is what is conveyed by Ganondorf mentioning that Hyrule has sent the Gerudo repeated invitations! I didn't actually make that part up! Honestly I expected to have to defend my choices re: Rauru from some very irritated fans who forgot about the back button, but it seems that if I irritated anyone, they remembered the back button. Good for them, and to everyone pressing the "more of this" buttons instead, thank you, I appreciate you, what the fuck is UP with this guy amirite??
Anyway though,
Sonia.
Oh, I have struggled with Sonia mightily. I did not want Rauru to be cheating on her. And partially this is because I don't particularly care to write about cheating but largely it is because a huge part of Rauru's sense of superiority over Ganondorf is a moral one, and if Rauru were betraying someone he loved to carry out this affair, that sense of superiority would be chopped off at the knees. And I'm using that sense of superiority, thank you very much.
So: it became the case that Sonia needed to know about the affair, needed her to be on board with it. And well, there were very quickly quite a lot of jokes that she and Rauru had "looking for a third" vibes, and I do think that's true, and anyway that girl married a goat god. "A very canny monsterfucker" is the kernel of canon characterization that I wound up building around. Very clear-eyed, less self-deception than Rauru; an overpowering propensity to identify what she wants and go for it. It's just that Zelda didn't see much of that. I guess, is the argument I'm going for. Well, then, Sonia is someone who can play at sweet and harmless and kind until she reveals how much of an edge she has.
Does the game suggest she has such an edge? ...No? I guess it doesn't. I don't know. But if it is not possible to hide anything from Sonia, and Hyrule is behaving coercively towards its not-yet-allies (and it is! again I did not make that part up!), then she must be aware of this. And she must be on board with it. She adores Rauru--this is clear in the cutscenes, just look at the light in her eyes when Rauru is speaking sometimes--and so I make the two of them a team, united in intention. But where I write Rauru as conflicted--naive thoughts about kingship stumbling against the reality of it--I place Sonia in a more decided position. Her premises: that Rauru is good, and that a unified Hyrule is a superior outcome over disparate nations. She is aware that the latter premise is not automatically accepted by everyone, but she has unwavering faith in it so she moves to carry it out without the indignation that resistance inspires in Rauru. Resistance does not make her doubt herself in the same way. (That's worse??) She is more pointedly, more cannily political than Rauru. Rauru wants a kingdom united in friendship (genuinely he wants this, as I write him); Sonia knows that friendship is not what unites kingdoms.
She just... winds up with this strange amoral core to her. A surprising one, I think. What I find myself writing is a Sonia who seems kind and sweet and confident and only very occasionally lets anyone see the part of her where she has made up her mind and is unmovably certain of her own rightness. A part of her that doesn't need it to be a moral rightness. Am I making any sense here.
I mean for some of that startling strangeness to come out in the way she regards Rauru's relationship with Ganondorf--I don't know if that comes through. I write Ganondorf conflating Rauru's sexual submission with political submission to excess; Sonia is almost the opposite, believing that the relationship between the two can exist as a function of desire alone regardless of the political dimension. It's about wanting and having and that is all. But the very assumption that that's all comes from the position of Hyrule's dominance, an unassailable position in her mind. I'm having trouble getting at what I'm getting at, but, my point here is that she's a little scary. that's all.

6, 10, 12 for the choose violence ask game?
6. which ship fans are the most annoying?
Probably a tie between Revalink and Zelink shippers. Revalink because they think 'being an asshole' is good characterization, and that's like the only reason everyone won't shut up about him. Also, people love M/M ships, so you take both and you have a fandom saturated with Revalink. I guess I'm just tired of seeing it everywhere.
Some Zelink fans are really snotty about the fact that their ship is canon. Or would be, if Nintendo would commit to the bit. And I may still be bitter about the time i tried to engage another fan by asking what they saw in Link and Zelda's relationship in AOC, because all I saw was them looking at each other and nodding. To me, that isn't an indication of any kind of emotions. The person seemed to think I was implying that Link had no emotions because he didn't show any and insulted me for daring to misinterpret their headcanon and calling me 'fucking blind'.
PSA: for anyone reading this who takes it personally when someone doesn't like your ship to the point that you think you have to defend it by insulting a total stranger, grow up.
10. worst part of fanon
The persistent idea that the goddesses are jerks for forcing Link to always have to save Hyrule, cursing him to a never-ending cycle. First of all, Demise set the curse, if we're going there. Anyone who blames Hylia is an idiot and is looking for an excuse to hate her. There's this strange need people have to look at a character who is the embodiment of good in a work and decide that they are secretly evil. Even though there's no evidence, forcing them to stretch the interpretation so far that it snaps. Why? Why can't there just be a character who is good for the sake of it?
12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them.
I can't think of any. I'm pretty mainstream.

omg for the ask game 2, 4, and 14 for both the links and the zeldas if you’re up for it??
I have had to answer this ask three times bc my phone keeps crashing and I have a cat on my chest so I can’t get my laptop, BUT I am always estatic to talk abt heroes gate and zeldas universe so let’s go!!!
2) Who was the hardest character to design?
Twilight, sky, and waker def. I wanted twilight to look very distinct from other aus, which tend to stick to common motifs like face tattoo, wolf pelt, etc, and that proved to be very, very hard and I’ve actually redesigned him a lot recently and need to post those redesigns haha. Sky was hard for similar reasons, but also bc I have a hard time with fat characters. I myself am fat, but I have a hard time making characters that look like me; I get quite embarrassed and end up not making them look how I want. Sky has always been fat since day one of designing, but making him fat on paper is much harder for me. Waker’s prosthetic gives me trouble— I wanted it to look similar to an 1800’s soldier's prosthetic, but that’s easier said than done when they were so awful for the person using htem. I’ve had to do a lot of research which has been fun, but also lots of work and redesigning over and over.
As for the zeldas, it was definitially my two armored girls, phantom and aella. phantom bc the phantom armor is ugly as fuck and very bulky and mature, something phantom is not, and aella bc I wanted to keep her elegance but had to sacrifice it for actual armor, since she is ya know. In the middle of a war.
4) Is there a character you want to include but didn't for whatever reason
I would have LOVED to include the first ever hero from the skyward sword manga. He’s one of my favorite characters to sandbox and I think he would have added a lot, but I’m already running with a shit load of characters so he got cut from the roster :(
14) Do you have any headcanons about the Rito/Zora/Goron/Hylian/ect
YOU BET I DO!! World building is my bestest of friends, and i have too many to do in one sitting (if you'd like me to go more in-depth i would loveeeee to) but i do have a huge post on the interactions between the gerudo and sheikah here. i dont agree with all of it anymore, as my ideas on ganondorf have shifted, buuuut it's still a good read :)
just gonna hit some bullet points of headcanons bc if i try and make it a cohesive paragraph we'll be here for everrrr
each race has very different ideas of gender and sex; in particular, the gerudo's terms voe/vai dont actually mean man/woman, that's just the meaning hylians put on them. it actually refers to a role in society; there is no real concept of hylian 'man' or 'woman'. the kokiri are completely agender (one of the ways oot link realizes they/she aren't kokiri is bc they/she realizes theyre/she's transfem. poor kiddo), and the gorons have little in the way of sexual dimorphism and are all genderless. the zora are all asexual, though they range in romantic orientation; they find the hylian concept of sex to be strange.
there are many kinds of zora; ocean (including subgroups like deep sea, costal, artic) zora, river zora, and lake/marsh zora. they do not have a history of getting along, but the calamity forced them together and they've become a multicultural diverse and mostly peaceful society
sheikah language is heavily gendered, but the sheikah's concept of gender is outside the hylian binary. the sheikah are deeply, deeply religious and historically served as priests and monks as well as soldiers for the hyrulian crown.
mentioned in the post i linked but: impa is a name passed down to the leader of the sheikah, and as subservient to the hylian crown (gross), it is expected that each impa will serve the queen and her children specifically as a bodyguard since the first impa (skyswd) served the first zelda.
because the sheikah were expected to carry out the hylian family's violence for so long, which primarily targeted the gerudo, there are tense relationships between the two groups
sheikah cover their faces 24/7 out of remembrance of the sheikah who worked alongside hylia, who had to hide their faces to avoid being burned by her holiness. the sheikah directly and deeply revere hylia as well as local gods and spirits.
hylian ear shape has changed over the centuries. skyswd hylians had short but pointed ears, but the later early generations of hylians had large, very long, furry ears from intermingling with zonai, and as time passed and the zonai disappeared, the ears lost their fur, became medium-sized, but stayed pointed
i have a LOT more but i dont wanna go on forever so ill stop here lol.

I’m bored and sad again so guess what time it is? Head canons!
-Legend is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to anything player related. Like, after he remembers he is basically a constrictor snake around them, has to be touching them at all times, he even hisses whenever anyone comes too close. He has had so much torn away from him (including player if, on his side, they had to leave for every in between of his journeys. Don’t know if that’s the case, but it’d be angsty as hell if it was. Having them leave, to coming back, only to leave again and repeat the cycle until they stopped returning.) and he is not going to let one of the things he just got back again go.
-Player must pet every. Single. Dog. They see. Big retriever? Pets. Little angry chihuahua? Pets. Big wolf- HOLY-! Better yet they know it’s Twilight and by the looks on the others faces most if not all of them don’t know. So they get to make puppy talk all they want and won’t be deterred by Wolfie’s grunts or growls because they know he won’t actually hurt them, while they also are completely aware of his situation and why he isn’t turning in front of everyone else to stop the merciless petting.
-There have been times where the player has (begrudgingly) looked up the answers to puzzles online, but they have done it so rarely with the Zelda series because it’s their favorite and they’d hate to spoil anything. This means they are the Loz puzzle pro and can take just one glance to solve half a dungeon, they are just that used to the Zelda formula. Every time the boys are stuck on a puzzle player comes swooping in spewing out orders faster than Epona can run, within a minute they’ve made it to the next room and can continue with their lives. It’s very strange for the chain.
-Player has shown them a cutscene or two from Botw, where in that game there is voice acting. One of the boys asks “do we also speak in your quote on quote ‘games’?” To which player, innocent (evil) smile on their face, shows them a ten minute video of all the Links over the years making their wide range of grunts, yells and “HYAH”s.
-Player shows them all the silly little games they have on their phone, to which the gang get addicted to playing temple run or something and strive for a better score than everyone else and proceed to very quickly drain the phones battery over the course of a day. Player is not pleased to say the least.
-“So basically they are metal carriages with no horses and a spinning wheel inside to move it about?”
“Hit the nail on the head!”
“…Yeah, not sure I believe that.”
“Wah- oh come on!”
-Player has mentioned Fi before and freaked out Sky. Like- “how do they know? Did Fi come to them at night and tell them? Are they also a spirit in a sword and they all know each other or something?!? Is that why (Name) is so weird?!”
Player: Thanks goodness the other two aren’t here!
Time: What other two?
Player: These two other Links I know, you wouldn’t want to meet them.
Wind: Ugh! You’re telling us there are more? Just when I thought I was free from even more overbearing adults.
Player: Nah, I bet you won’t ever meet them. One’s game is… a little too out there, and the other doesn’t even have a game, it’s all perfectly fine-
Koridai and Courage, emerging from a random portal: Heeeey-
Player: (screeches)
Anyway, that’s it. I hope my description on Korodai and Courage was accurate. I believe they are the cd-i Link and the, “Well excuuuuuussse me, princess” Link respectively, but I may be wrong on that.
(You're completely correct on Courage and Koridai babes, those cringey boys)
ALSO LOVING THE HEADCANONS KEEP THROWING THOSE MY WAY THEY MAKE ME HAPPY TO SEE THEM!
"Nah, because- something like the divine beasts makes sense but a car doesn't!?"
"Yup."
"That's it, put your hands up we're about to fight."
My personal experience with puzzles is that they're literally the light of my life, fucking love those things (hate having to look for solutions to hard puzzles tho) so Player happily commits to the puzzles in the dungeon while the Chain is debating their next move.
"So, if we-"
"Done."
"....What?"
PLAYER NEEDING TO PET THE DOGS-
"....(Name)?"
"Yeeeeeesssss?"
"Why are you cuddling a wolf?"
"This is a dog?"
"No...no it's not..."
"Huh....well, she ain't done anything yet so I'm not bothered."

I saw your So You Want to Buy a Vpet post, and one thing stood out to me in that you mentioned the Digital Monsters Color are not newbie friendly , which I take it the rationale being they run their evolution timer too quickly due to protein and sleep.
This is the one bit I sort of disagree with, because it always felt like a brand feature as one of the vpets to teach about growth, death, or in the strange lore of Digimon (following Buddhism) the idea of reincarnation
As a pet raiser I feel like the kidlike philosophy (which i definitely possessed with the orignal vpets when I was young) of wanting to hold on to the same pet or put it in cryo in order to preserve its form to stare at sort of goes against the concept of them being creatures we are responsible for into objects we own.
From a gameplay perspective a quicker timer also let's you explore the roster better. In a similar sense to Pokémon nuzlocke runs it opens up experimentation and new sentimental attachments to monsters other than our favourites
The digivice and anime forgo this in chase of constancy and mass appeal. For me it loses its original flavour and makes "digital monsters" and "Digimon" somewhat two distinctive separated fanbase. It always makes me slightly taken aback when fans prefer the RPG games to say, redigitalize or world championship on the DS, or say world championship is boring.
Actually I considered them not newbie friendly because they are expensive. And because they were Premium Bandai exclusive, they are kind of hard to find for the already expensive price tag they launched with. And with a price point like that, they're fairly basic. I don't think someone who's just getting into this hobby is going to want to drop more than half a hundred bucks on a virtual pet that they might not even enjoy especially when other virtual pets are more feature heavy.
As for your opinion, I can appreciate how you feel but to me it just sounds like another case of Casual gamer vs Hardcore gamer to me. I hesitate to use the word "Gate Keeping" here but if people want to keep their pet alive longer and have an easier time raising them, we should let them, especially if the features that enable this are mostly optional. We don't have to freeze our digimon if we don't want to.
Besides that, the easier digimon are not immortal, they can still die with neglect. And it's a little funny to call the mindset of wanting to keep your digimon "childlike" given... it's a fucking toy. So it's not like the lesson of life and death and possible reincarnation ( though I don't know how a kid is supposed to glean that from an LCD pet with no dialogue ) is going to be lost on a kid raising a virtual pet. But adults already understand this concept. But are less likely to appreciate it when they're likely more busy, and frankly, more likely to actually buy a virtual pet than a child. It's like "okay yeah I get it, but I still wish the window for mistakes was more narrow so my greymon doesn't fucking die before I go on my 10 minute break for work."
And again, I'm recommending these to NEWCOMERS, not enthusiasts. Like you wouldn't recommend someone with no video game experience play Zelda 2 The Adventure of Link as their first game, even if you actually love it, you'd start them with something easier and more contemporary, and slowly ease them into it.
I can't speak on the video games because 1. I've only played like three and finished none of them. And 2. Digimon just keeps making completely different styles of games, and I don't think most people play them for virtual pet aspect. They're likely in it for the story more than anything. At least that's my impression from trying Cyber Sleuth, currently the most popular digimon game, and being bored to tears because it was almost nothing but human characters talking. There is just no accounting for taste, but you can't act like people are wrong for it not aligning with your own.

Okay I THINK I may have sent this in before, I apologize if I have, I can't remember if I have or if I've just complained about it a lot skdjskdndn
One thing that I haven't really seen anyone talking about, probably because the story fails to invest anyone in much of anything, is that. Sonia got fridged. Like there's no arguing it, it's almost as bad as the example that gave fridging its name. All that Sonia got to do was cheekily say "what, you didn't believe her?" or something like that, allegedly teach Zelda about time stuff, and get her spine broken so that Zelda and Rauru could be sad about it for a while and then never bring it up again. There were so many other ways they could do this if they wanted Ganondorf to steal a stone, and even that plot point already has some unfortunate consequences. She has basically no purpose in the plot, gets sidelined throughout a lot of the cutscenes, and dies in such a way that literally nobody cares less than half a cutscene later. What the fuck
Oh yeah Sonia 100% got fridged lmaooo, it was some bullshit. When they first introduced her I was actually pleasantly surprised, holy shit her name ISN'T Zelda, is that even allowed? Crazy. And I was just sort of enjoying the ride, always like it when a pretty woman is in a game, looking forwards to seeing more of her.
...Aaand then the third memory I found opened with Sonia dropping dead, and I was just like oh come ON, NINTENDO, I SAID I WANTED TO SEE MORE OF THE HOT LADY AND YOU IMMEDIATELY SHOVE HER INTO THE FRIDGE. WHY.
I mean I know why, it's to further cement how eeevil ganon is and to make sure nobody questions anything about the situation, but at the time I just threw my hands up in frustration. The second major disappointment I ran into actually; my first incident of "OH COME THE FUCK ON" came from when I was in the intro sequence, and I was joking to some friends about how Zelda's haircut and outfit are very cute, I greatly approve, and if Nintendo forces her into an impractical gown for the final battle like they did to Sheik and Tetra, I'm throwing my Switch into the fucking sun.
And I mean, I was wrong! They did not force Zelda into a floor length dress for the final battle! My expectations were really low, but I thought I could at least make it out of the FUCKING TUTORIAL before Zelda had her practical clothes stolen. I hate these goddamn sleeveless white dresses she keeps being shoved into. This one wasn't as ugly as her Sacred Bath Towel Maternity Dress from BOTW, but for the record I find it very strange that Sonia's idea of getting Zelda cleaned up was to only provide her with an outfit identical to hers, down to the jewlery choices. Why did she just have a smaller replica of her dress laying around. Was it really that hard for Nintendo to just use the fancy gown model for Sonia and keep Zelda in her own outfit? Is the world going to end if Zelda is allowed to wear pants for more than five minutes??? And boots, let her keep her damn boots! Stop making Zelda run around active battlefields in a sleeveless white dress and flimsy little sandals! SOMEONE GIVE THIS WOMAN A JACKET, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.
At least they didn't magically grow her hair out to make her a Proper Princess, I was absolutely fucking expecting that lmaooo. So that's a little bit of progress. Literally less than the bare minimum, but I'll fucking take it anyways.

(totk ending spoilers ahoy)
wow ganondorf sure does love gettjng stabbed in the head huh
ya know, for all the shit i've given this game about how much i hate the story, that finale was fucking amazing. better than botw's even (i know it's not a hot take to say botw had a mediocre ending for how much i enjoyed the rest of the story).
so.... i loved the callbacks to the beginning with gloom's lair and the forgotten foundations. i loved that you can remove the rocks blocking the way to see the rest of the mural now that you know what happens (kinda strange that the murals were there before zelda even time travelled but whatever. i just gotta accept that the time travel in this game makes zero fucking sense). but it was just very cool to have a book closing situation with it. AND ALSO ZELDA'S TORCH WAS STILL THERE!!! very sweet and sentimental detail. i also liked how it was the opposite of botw's, as in botw you were ascending hyrule castle but here you're descending far far below the castle and further below anywhere else in the depths.
the atmosphere here was amazing, especially with how the power of the sages couldn't reach you. it was truly isolating and i knew that the sages themselves would show up eventually but nonetheless it was really hammering in the tenseness of the situation.
one of my gripes is honestly with the sages. they felt kinda....useless?? which feels means to say because i like their characters but it felt like they didn't have much of a presense in the final despite literally being there. i do like how tulin was like "we need to work together" when his whole thing during the rito questline was how he was doing everything by himself and had to learn and accept teamwork. if totk carried at least one thing over from botw it was that the rito continue to have the best and well-developed characters lmao (even if the impact of tulin's felt smaller. probably because he's not.... ya know....dead).
AS FOR THE FINAL BATTLE ITSELF. WOW. ganondorf's ai was fucking incredible here. also his taunting was just very funny to me for some reason??? except for when he reached his second phase and was beckoning link closer i was like okay you need to die now.
SPEAKING OF THE SECOND PHASE: LOST MY SHIT AT THE HEALTH BAR. i love when games play with the hud and that adds to the story (prof sada/turo's text boxes glitching out and it briefly flashing with "they have no intention of fighting anymore" before changing back comes to mind as something similar). it was just very cool.
third phase was also very cool with it incorporating the sky and zelda joining us (nitpick time sorry: though the fact that she is capable of recognizing link and helping him even as a dragon kinds goes against the whole "losing yourself" aspect of it. like she was clearly still in there). i don't think the third phase was as good as the first and especially the second though. it was very easy, though it was cool that if you got hit by ganondorf's attack you would permanently lose one of your hearts. it was still a good part of the fight though, don't get me wrong.
JUMPING AFTER ZELDA AND REACHING FOR HER WAS BEAUTIFUL THOUGH. WAHHHHH
as for the epilogue it was sweet but the entire story of the game let it down a bit. i felt nothing for mineru passing and that's because everybody from the past barely felt like a character to me. this is also extends to when the current sages were vowing to protect hyrule and zelda had a flashback to the old sages. like wow it's very cool that you got to know those guys zelda and i'm glad that they meant something to you. wish i could say the same considering we still know fuck all about them.
epilogue aside, the ending was wonderful. it brought this game up from a 6 out of 10 to a 7 out of 10. if only the rest of the story was of this quality.
