happy valentine’s day <3

a gentle reminder that ronan dreamt adam a watch that told the time wherever ronan was because it was the closest he could get to a love letter. and that instead of saying “i love you” (too easy, too basic) adam says “tamquam” and ronan says “alter idem” which not only literally means “as if a second self” but also implies that adam was the one to start saying it in the first place.

a gentle reminder that the line “i suppose…she makes me quiet. like henrietta” exists and was spoken by gansey about blue in answer to the question “how do you know you love her?” and that blue would do anything for gansey because he’s the first person she calls when she needs to escape because he. makes. her. quiet. too.

and, finally, a gentle reminder that declan wrote “you were the ending i chose for myself” because he wanted to be happy with jordan, to have a life with her. and a reminder that jordan’s first sweetmetal, the very thing that keeps her awake and alive, is a portrait of declan lynch.

Declan will quite literally, roll over like a pup for you, so please please please give him attention. He would tear down mountains, he would rip stars from the sky, all for you to look at him with a moment of praise so please never hold anything back for worry of being too much he would just exist at a point of joy he'd never imagined possible before while melting around you as best as he could.

Yes he's in medieval times! I don't want to have the limitations of modern day stuff with my world building here, also because I like the idea of a Hallewell being a kingdoms dragon instead of an actual dragon it's amusing to me

And the answer for documentations is this! If he's not hunting someone they won't see him, not truly

There will be reports of larger and larger beasts that move closer to who he's hunting, and it becomes part of the Hallewell's legend. Listen for nature's approach through different footsteps sort of ordeal. If someone truly looked to see him in his shifted form. They wouldn't see him unless he wants them to. They might see a man, or a pack of wolves, or a bear, or maybe MAYBE a dragon. That's not to say Hallewell's aren't documented. But usually it's someone being hunted screaming about what they're seeing before they go missing(dying but yk) and humans pieces those together to form a general idea

Maybe someone sees one when they're not a target, but again that's rare and it would have to be the Hallewell's choice. Usually it's a warning. "Be better or next you see me you'll be the one bloodying my maw"

Back to Declan though, you're his heart. You want him to go beast mode? Of course! He holds the same sentience and logic regardless of form but he can't really speak without a human mouth. He'll growl, and purr, and roar, and make all sorts of sounds, and he'll understand you entirely, but he'll never be able to say words like that because the mouth isn't human so no human words

So yeah, do those things. Watch this horrifying creature melt like a kitten. If you fall asleep on him? He won't move, he will remain as still as stone and if any get close enough he'll bite them in two if they risk waking you

Does Vince visit Declan on days when he doesn’t intend to feed? I’m so curious to see what a non-feeding interaction between them would look like (would probably devolve into violence because Vince is Vince) Do they ever manage to have just a conversation? Vince seems too cruel to give Declan even the tiniest sliver of update about the outside world - does he ever drop his guard and throw Declan a bone? Maybe in a flashback or Vince gets his hands on poor Declan again 👀

Another thing that I’m struck by is that Declan has spent so much of his formative time in captivity. He’s very young, and he’s already struck by such intense PTSD. Other than recovering from the trauma of his imprisonment, there’s also the fact that he missed out on normal human things, like watching his sister grow up, relationships, other young adult things. Do you see yourself writing Declan in the future, once he has managed to make a reasonable recovery (*if* he manages to make a reasonable recovery…)

Oh, Vince definitely visits Declan on non-feeding days! Not all the time, but if he's bored and wants to pay a visit to his plaything ;) Vince finds it SO much fun to get Deccy to slip up and land himself in a world of trouble over the slightest infraction. And Vince never tells him anything about the outside world, as far as he's concerned, it doesn't exist anymore for Declan. Declan's not a living being - he's just food.

And you're SO right about Declan spending a lot of his formative years in captivity </3 He'll never be the Declan he once was or ever would be, but he'll survive and in good time, he'll start to thrive again. He'll forever face challenges and struggle with trauma, and the irreparable damage done to his mind and body - he even has a permanent physical disability to navigate. But I do actually plan to write recovery/future Declan and even far into the future when he has a child!

Continued from here X Declan was certainly his name, his eyes glancing up at the woman as she came wandering into his room with a familiarity that had to mean something. For the life of him, though, he had no idea who she was. Or who Eli was for that mattered. He tried to plaster on polite smile, though it far from hit its mark. There was a shakiness there that relayed the concern that he was feeling. The nurses had said someone would be here to take him home. Someone he was supposed to know. He ran a hand down his face before rubbing at the scruff along his jaw line. A telltale give away that he didn't realize she knew. "Yeah, uh, okay." He nodded. If the hospital was releasing him to her, that had mean something. Right? God, he hoped so. He carefully pushed out of the bed, a little wobbly, but stayed on his feet. How was he supposed to ask who the hell she was? It would have made it incredibly awkward.

"Hey, it's okay, I got you." Maria said holding out an arm to take as he wobbled. "You can sit back down if you need to, none of this not taking care of yourself." Maria added.

She watched his expression but couldn't quite work out what was happening, she knew he might be in pain but that wasn't it, his usual smile was missing, the way his eyes lit up whenever Eli was mentioned.

"Hey, are you okay? The doctors said their might be some memory loss, you know who I am right?" Maria asked looking around the room. The doctors said some memory loss but if it was more severe than that surely they needed to keep him in, do more tests, get a psychologist to talk to him.
