Hello! I have many nice things to say today, (Long ask coming up, I’m so sorry if you‘re annoyed by it. I just want to give as much happiness as I can, if that’s alright. But if long asks stress you out, feel free to just skip it. Nothing I say here is urgent or anything like that.) but I apologize if they sound weird at all. I’ve been told that when I say nice things sometimes it comes off as creepy so if any part of this sounds creepy I am so sorry and I promise it’s not intentional. I just have a lot of thoughts in my head. Moving on, Saturn is such a beautiful name. (Granted, all your names are quite beautiful.)It’s actually a name I’ve considered myself, it’s just so joy-inducing. When I hear “Saturn” used as a name, I just want to jump up and down and wave my hands and smile, that sounds extremely weird but I don’t know a better way to describe the feeling. I wonder if you feel this way too when people call you Saturn? Or maybe something different? I‘d be happy to hear what led to you choosing that name, if you’d be willing to share. If not, that‘s okay too.
Have you ever looked at pictures of hedgehogs before? Or just looked at them in real life? I think they’re a “love it or hate it” animal, but I think they’re absolutely adorable. They’re just so small and squishy-looking, like they‘re little rubber balls or something. The excessive amount of quills they have only adds to their cuteness, in my opinion. As if they’re little balls of death. Destroyers of the universe.
Am I making this about me? I hope it doesn’t come off like that, I’d just like to try to relate with you about something. But just in case, let’s talk about you more! You have such a nice blog! So much attention to detail to the book series that brought us all here, along with some lovely and creative ideas/headcanons for it too! Also, you’re username- it’s so clever, I have no clue how you came up with it. Also also, you’re a writer! I have endless respect and awe for writers- writing can be so much more difficult than it seems. What do you enjoy most about writing? You’re definitely a household name within this fandom, I think I found your posts within the first few minutes of joining the fandom.
Who are your top five Kotlc characters? They don’t have to be main characters, they can even be characters who are only mentioned in passing if that’s who you choose. I’ll go first- (In order from favorite to fifth favorite) Tiergan, Tam, Elwin, Wylie, and Linh. Oh! How many books were there when you first started reading the series? I’m not asking this gatekeep-y, in case you’re worried about that. A fan’s a fan!
I’m going to stop here because this is almost an essay-length ask already. If you want me to continue talking, I can (I have too many thoughts and my brain is much too excited right now, like I said earlier.) but if you don’t want me to, that’s alright as well. Either way, I hope you have a great day/night.
Hi! This has been sitting in my askbox for over a week, lol, I was saving it for when I needed it and you know what? Now I need it. Thank you for your service.
Saturn IS a beautiful name, thank you! I chose the name back in May, I think? I'd recently written a poem about gender and Saturn/ring metaphors, and then a mutual of mine started going by Venus, and I went "space name? space name!" and added it. And yeah, I get kind of a dopey smile on my face when people call me Saturn :)
I haven't, but at your suggestion... HOLY SHIT LOOK AT HIM
Tumblr media
Nah, you're good! The username... I was making puns about how everyone in KOTLC was queer, this was one of the puns, and I thought it would make a fantastic username. I was right. What's my favorite part of writing? That's tough. I would have to say the best feeling is when you hit a wall in your writing, but then the moment you break through it feels so good. It's also really good to hear that I qualify as a household name in the fandom, cause when I got started it felt like everyone was super close knit and I wouldn't really fit in.
Top five? Fuck, I'm genderfluid and in capable of making decisions /j. Marella and Biana are my top two, Della is absolutely wonderful, I agree with you that Tiergan is fantastic, and... yeah, Elwin too. I will declare those my top five before I can overthink that. I started reading the series when... Nightfall was out? But Flashback came out before I'd finished the first six.
You seem really nice and you made me pretty happy, so if you want to come back, that would be cool!

Magician’s resolve chapter 11: A soul’s calling
Tiergan felt a strong pulse pound through his chest as he trudged his way through the battlefield, carrying his friend was no easy task given how physically weak he was along with the fact that he had been exhausted from running around for the past hour or two. His gaze shifted around and it was apparent that the humans were winning, it wasn’t by a close hair either, with their leader gone many of the troops had fled from the scene as quickly as their uniquely shaped legs could carry them. The lavender mage paused as he spotted floating cloths wrapped around a dog-like monster, the creature violently exploded into white dust and knock over several humans and monsters who were still fighting in the area. The morbid colorless powder soaked into the glowing purple cloths and soon Percy stepped out of them with his eyes flickering with flames along with being slit like a lizard. The two purple mages made eye contact and held the other’s gaze for a long moment before the old man blinked away the odd looking eyes and gave a pained smile before he made eye contact with another monster and disappeared from sight as the cloth shot towards the creature and wrapped around it before causing another violent explosion of white powder. Tiergan stared in horror and yet shortly managed to rip his eyes away as he resumed walking towards the hill, he closed his eyes and tried to glimpse the future but the only thing he could see was a blue sky and flickering flames. The boy shook his head as he opened his eyes and swallowed the lump in his throat, he couldn’t shake away the feeling that something even more horrible was coming. He glanced up to the blue sky and a large stream of fire soared over his head, he shuddered as he whipped around and spotted a much smaller version of the king that he had fought before, his eyes grew wide as he stared. He looked to where the fire had gone and saw a slime laying dead on the ground for a brief moment before it dissolved into white dust. “W-What the hell?” The human boy growled and gritted his teeth as he glared back at the young monster. “Why?” He barked sharply as he shuddered in place, his eyes briefly closed to see the future but he could only see the young goatman standing before him.
“You wouldn’t understand, I care for her too.” Both of them spoke at the same time as the human boy opened his eyes. “You knew what I was going to say?” The boy tilted his head and gave off a bored expression as if everything was too predictable for him, that everything was an open book now. “Don’t you dare hurt her, I’ll kill you if I find out that anything happened to her.” Tiergan felt a tug at his chest as he continued to stare at the monster that stood across from him, there was a mutual understanding between them that they didn’t want to see her harmed even if it meant hurting their own people. They stood in silence for a long moment before the monster slowly turned around. “I know that you were not the one to strike down my father, but you will pay in blood for the sins of your people.” The monster spoke firmly while the human merely muttered it under his breath. “There will be honor restored either way.” They both exchanged intense looks one last time before the prince of monsters walked away, he slowly sped up and broke out into a sprint as he let out a shout for his people to fall back. The mage stood frozen as he contemplated what had just transpired, it was the oddest thing to him, watching the son of the worst being he knew act like a noble person.
“Maybe you aren’t so bad….Asgore.” The spiky haired boy stared off as he watched the monsters flee as quickly as they could. He shuddered as he closed his eyes and could only see darkness, he heard someone stumble around and he deduced that he had glimpsed a pointless moment he would have inside his cottage that night. When the boy came to the top of the hill he used a gust of wind to open the door since both of his hands were busy keeping the girl held up, his arms were getting tired and he let out a sigh of relief as he entered the house and set her down on the couch. I need to restrain her some way, my barrier spells aren’t strong enough to hold her back and I can’t have any metal in the room. He bit his lip as he sat down in the rocking chair that his mentor typically sat in, he leaned back and started swaying back and forth in an attempt to stimulate his brain and come to a faster conclusion. As his eyes closed he didn’t activate his future sight, he took a deep breath as he tried to think; suddenly a white screen appeared in his vision. W-What is this? He opened his eyes and the words disappeared from his sight, he looked around and still saw nothing. The boy swallowed the lump in his throat and shuddered as he closed his eyes once again. Lv 3, HP 28/28, ATK 14, DEF 10, EXP to next level…..one…. The lavender mage stared at the letters and numbers and tried to make sense of them. Does she see them too? He opened his eyes and looked over at the girl, he figured she wouldn’t be out for much longer so he bit his lip and picked her up. The floorboards creaked with every step before he found the secret board and flipped it up with his foot. The boy stared for a moment as he tried to think of a way to lower himself down safely while still holding onto her, he bit his lip and his back glowed white as he made his shirt and robe cling to him, enabling a basic adhesive magic. He picked up Lailani and mentally crossed his fingers as he wrapped her arms around his neck and attached her to his back, after a few moments of climbing she started to fall off of him. “Manere!” He shouted and flexed his magic as the girl stopped mid-air, thankfully they were already close to the ground so he simply hopped off the ladder and ended the spell to let her fall into his arms. The boy grunted as he almost dropped her from the sudden weight, he let out a sigh of relief as he set her on her feet and leaned her against him. He stared at the black mist that flickered in front of him, his mind raced as he weighed his options. It’s the perfect prison, magic doesn’t work in there….I could bind her outside so that she could breathe but not use her magic to break free….that would work wouldn’t it? He chewed on his lip before growling in frustration. What the hell am I supposed to think? I can’t test this and I can’t gather data! I don’t have time to mess around! She could run away if I don’t take the necessary precautions….it needs to be done. He gritted his teeth and swallowed the lump in his throat as he slowly walked towards the mist, Lailani’s feet dragged across the floor as he continued onward.
Are you sure about this, young one? The young purple mage flinched as he heard a voice speak into his mind, the voice was gruff and grumbly as if the person was a giant. The boy spun around as he searched for the source of the voice only to find nothing except for the ladder that was supposed to be there. There’s no use in looking around for me, I’m all around you but you just don’t know it.
“I can’t feel your presence, I can’t detect your magic!” Tiergan growled as he gritted his teeth and held his friend protectively. His eyes continued to dart around the area as he threw up a basic barrier spell. “Show yourself!” He swallowed the lump in his throat and attempted to light a fireball only for the dark mist behind him to lash out and consume the flames in an instant, the barrier shattered as if it were made of thin glass and Tiergan gasped in surprise as he ducked under the fog and bent over Lailani to shield her from any attack that might have come from the mysterious haze.
I will take care of her, do not worry. I have no reason to harm her as that would only turn you away from your path, you must walk down it regardless. The voice bellowed again as the haze weaved around the boy’s body and lifted the girl away, it draped around every part of her except for her head as it held her on the edge of the mist. She flinched slightly and it was clear that she was going to wake up at any moment, the purple mage wasn’t so sure if he wanted to stick around to witness the initial horror she would experience.
“What path are you talking about? Future sight has shown me that I can change what’s going to happen, I can gaze the infinite possibilities and pick and chose what I like. There is no path that you can set in stone for me.” The lavender mage growled as he walked towards the mist and stared into it.
“The path we have set you on my student.” The sound echoed around the human boy, it wasn’t the strange feeling in his mind that he had experienced earlier which only instilled a deeper feeling of terror inside of his rapidly pulsing heart. “It is no coincidence that you were chosen to stay here and continue your training. Your soul is powerful but you keep it wrapped up in chains, you know it to be true.” He could hear that the voice was calling from the mist so he took another step towards it and swallowed the lump in his throat
“What do you want from me?” Tiergan stomped and shouted at the top of his lungs as he thrust his arm into the mist and felt it crawl around him, the sensation of pins and needles tapping against him. The fog slowly crawled up his arm and spread out over his shoulder before he ripped his arm away and gritted his teeth as he felt a sharp stabbing pain wherever the haze had coated. He wildly waved his arm around in an attempt to throw it off but it wouldn’t leave him even after he used a cleansing spell. What the hell is going on? If this….thing, doesn’t want me to get turned away then why is it out right attacking me? He seethed in pain but managed to keep the sound to a minimum as he stumbled back towards the ladder and his head rested against it. It felt like the pain went on for hours as he stood there leaned against the ladder as he gritted his teeth and closed his eyes, making every attempt to somehow dull the pain that was coursing through him. Agony started to fill every corner of his mind as he fought to keep some semblance of sanity in his refusal to scream out.
“You’ve heard it before, determination is the strongest of traits. That it is the one thing that separates monsters from being on par with humans. Red magicians have an abundance of this, yet it is wild and uncontrollable in nature. Determination without direction is mere spite, do you wish to surpass such raw energy?” The lavender mage slowly nodded as he began to pant, sweat was pouring from his face as he clutched his arm and wiggled around in pain. “Then you must do more than merely survive, you must persevere. Take hold of your soul energy, let it run wild through you yet keep it bound to yourself, do not let it go astray and become primitive.” The boy felt his soul being slowly pulled out of his body, a glowing lavender heart manifested in front of him and began to violently shake as it grew to a darker shade of purple. Glowing chains shot out from the boy’s chest and wrapped around the heart, subduing it and slowly turning it back into the shallow color it once was. “You are enslaving it again, give it some more freedom and you will be perfect!” The voice was excited, almost like a giddy child being shown fireworks for the first time. The chains slowly unwrapped and the heart stopped its transformation of color in a state between the two extremes. “Yeeessssss!” The voice chimed melodically and let out a low hissing sound.
“Okay, I’ve done whatever the hell you’ve wanted so far.” Tiergan grunted as he felt the pain start to fade away, the thick fog still clung to him yet it seemed to be more tame. He stared at his arm and swallowed the lump in his throat. How do I know that I can trust them? I can feel my power rising but I still don’t know what else to do with it. For all I know they could be trying to get me stronger so they can absorb me. The boy looked up from his arm and back towards the mist where he watched his best friend hang limp, he scowled in disgust as he thought of what could happen that would inevitably be his own fault. I just handed her over to some weird voice thing that clearly knows more about magic than anyone I’ve ever met, just a pure stroke of genius right there! He cursed himself and bit down on his lip. The boy walked towards his friend and reached out, his hand lightly stroked the long locks that hung to the sides as the girl’s head remained facing towards the ground. I’m so sorry that I had to do this. I don’t know the consequences but perhaps I can scry our future….not my future or your future….our future. He closed his eyes and placed his hand on her forehead, he swallowed the lump in his throat and bit his lip as he toyed with the possibility of seeing a future aside from his own. Let’s just hope this works the way I hope it will. Tiergan took a deep breath as he stared at his eyelids before letting out a harsh exhale, he sputtered slightly as he took in a cloud of dust with his next breath. Suddenly his eyes opened and he was thrust into a completely different world than the one that surrounded him. He felt floaty, almost weightless as he stared out over a beautiful sunset that had painted the sky in shades of purple and orange. A gentle breeze blew through his hair and directed his gaze behind him and he spotted the same cottage that he had lived in for the majority of his teenage life. He slowly walked up to it and he immediately noticed the potted  orange flowers that were on either side of the door, he bent down and sniffed one of them with a light sigh of relief. What kind of future is this? Everything is so….peaceful. He stared in wonder, he knew that he had no real control over his body but he could still experience the sights, sounds, and smells that surrounded him. The boy let out a wistful sigh as he lingered in the pleasant moment as he felt his thoughts fade away from the dusty cave that he had just been in moments before. All of this, everything so sweet and peaceful. He stood back up and opened the door, when he walked inside he was greeted with a savory aroma that drifted from his right. “You’re trying your hand at cooking again?” He smiled warmly as he walked over towards the scent, he spotted the familiar red hood and couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear. There was no control over his body but everything still felt so surreal to the boy that stared into the illusion with such glee. “You’ve managed not to burn it this time, nice!” He chuckled as he came up behind the girl and wrapped his arms around her waist as he leaned his head onto her shoulder and let out a pleasant sigh.
“And you’ve managed to get home on time.” Lailani smiled warmly and nuzzled into the boy’s head as she returned the light hearted chuckle, she continued to stir the pot of potato soup and even took her hands off as she used her magic to slowly spin around the metal ladle. “That’s a first for you!”
This….this is what could have been. The lavender mage thought to himself as he felt a sharp pain course through his heart as he came to terms with the fragile reality around him. This future seems unlikely, but it is the one that I wish to pursue with all of my might. He smiled again and hummed as he froze in the embrace. The boy opened his eyes and fell back, his soul felt drained and he could feel that his well of magic was running dry. Unfortunately, reality is much more grim and less ideal. He stared into the eyes of his friend and felt the pain course through him once more, it was not physical pain nor was it the pain of running low on soul power, the pain of his heart echoed for a moment as he refused to rip his gaze away. The young man practically collapsed under the weight of how drained he felt, the urge to pass out on the cold ground was strong but he managed to force himself over to the ladder and grip it for support. He looked around as he searched for signs of the voice yet he found no traces of his presence, even though he couldn't detect it anyways. “Where are you? Don’t you have anything to say to me?” He called out into the mist and was met with no reply, he gritted his teeth in frustration. “All that talk about my path and yet I can still see that ending?” He shouted out and his voice cracked slightly. “There’s still a chance that I can make that come true, tell me how to get to that ending!” He barked as rage crept into his voice, his whole body shook and his eye twitched as a single tear ran down his face and went over his lip, his mouth was filled with a salty sensation the likes he had never tasted before. The anger that boiled in him fluctuated for a long moment before he started climbing the ladder and cursed himself and the mysterious voice under his breath. I should have never dared to look. He gritted his teeth and bit his lip as he took a deep breath and emerged from the cave, flipping the panel back into place as he laid himself out across the floorboards.
“Ey there littl’ laddie, I’ve been lookin’ everywhere fer ya!” The boy heard a familiar voice, his eyes were practically glued shut but he could make out the gruff yet still feminine voice. “Don’t tell me yer all tuckered out from such a short battle as that?” He opened his eyes and confirmed his suspicions, Hardwin stood looming over him with her blocky frame and thick armor around her legs, a massive grin stretched across her face as she extended a hand to help him off of his feet.
“When did you get here?” Tiergan slowly rose to his feet on his own, refusing to take her hand as he stood on his own two feet. He looked her dead in the eye and gazed into everything that had pushed him to grow stronger until just a few days before, so much had changed for him in so little time and he could feel the uneasiness creep up on him as fear entered his heart and plagued him like a disease. “I thought you guys would still be half a day’s ride out from town?” The boy made an effort to sound as casual as possible in spite of the weariness that tugged at his soul.
“I just got ‘ere an hour ago, I helped with clean up a littl’ bit before comin’ in ‘ere to look fer ya. I was actually kinda worried that you went off and died without my permission!” She released a hearty chuckle as she wrapped her arm around his shoulder and pulled him into her side for a sisterly noogie. “I’d have ta kill Percy myself if he let such a strong littl’ boy get ‘emself killed over something stupid!” It seemed impossible to erase the grin on her face as she walked with him to the main living room of the cottage and plopped down on the couch that responded with a loud creak at the sudden weight put onto it.
“That doesn’t answer my second question but okay.” The boy cringed as he tried to forget about the sensation of chain-mail gloves rubbing against the top of his head. Hardwin, it’s been a long time, I sincerely hope that you don’t think I’m the same little boy that you used to have to throw towards any sign of danger. He looked into her eyes for an awkward amount of time, in the time it took him to realize his mistake the woman had already burst into a wild fit of hysteric laughter that resounded through the cabin.
“I know ya got somethin’ ta say, I can see it in that intent gaze you were givin’ me!” The amazon of a woman stifled her laughter and leaned over slightly as she gave a playful look of curiosity. “I know it’s been quite some time, you probably have all sorts of questions fer me don’tcha?” She grinned smugly as she fully leaned onto his shoulder and tilted her head against his, she hummed happily and giggled as if she were still a child.
“Uhm, I, uh…..” The lavender mage looked at his feet as he searched his thoughts for the right questions to ask or what words he wanted to say that would give him the answers he was looking for. I don’t know if you still believe that this war is just. He thought to himself for a moment before he looked back at her and quirked an eyebrow. “You got here faster through rapid use of spatial distortion, didn’t you?” He bit his lip and mentally cursed himself. That’s the best question you can think of to start the conversation slowly? Well, at least it might be a decent start to not thrust her into the fire and the flames from the get-go. The boy cleared his throat and sighed.
“Indeed I did littl’ laddie!” Hardwin chuckled again as she gave the boy another rough noogie with her metal gloves. “That’s why I’m ‘ere earlier than ol’ Caolos-Tonn and Kairim! Suckers couldn’t catch up to my teleportin’ prowess!” She grinned happily and slapped the younger boy on the back.
“T-That’s cool.” Tiergan was forced to cough as he felt a shock run down his spine from the playful slap, he leaned forward and took a deep breath in an attempt to return himself to a normal lung capacity. “So Kairim is gonna be here too? How does she feel about Desmond?” He coughed again and cleared his throat before sitting up straight and twisting his neck, a slight popping sound erupted and he cringed before returning himself to a proper state of mind as he listened intently.
“Ah, yeah she’s quite over that whole mess now. Took ‘er a while but she’s probably past it by now, we can talk about Desmond without ‘er gettin’ all pissy for no real reason.” The orange mage sighed as she stood up and scratched the back of her head. “Anyways, we should probably cut our chat a littl’ short, there aren’t enough people working on clean up after that battle. There’s still a lot of scraping to do, quite the big mess you guys left!” She beamed with pride as she extended a hand again in spite of the fact that the boy had denied it the previous time she made the offer. The woman frowned as she watched her much younger friend stand up and shake his head as he silently made his way to the door, there was an increasing atmosphere of tension between the two of them and the older mage could feel the pressure grow at a rapid rate.
“That’s good I guess.” Tiergan muttered under his breath as he flung the door open and held it open for the woman. But what about Lailani? I know that there were orders to execute the human traitor, will you waver when you learn of who it is? His eyes narrowed with contempt as he stared into the woman’s eyes that returned the intense gaze. You’re starting to catch on to what I’m thinking, aren’t you? He smiled slightly as he let go of the door and it swung itself shut with a loud thud.
“You’re curious about my thoughts on the human traitor, ain’tcha?” Hardwin scowled and put her hands on her hips as she looked at the ground to think of a reasonable answer. “Yeah, I know that it’s Lailani...so does Kairim….” She swallowed the lump in her throat, it was odd to see her so hesitant about something given her rambunctious nature. “Look, I know that she’s yer friend and that she’s Kairim’s niece, it doesn’t actually matter because we can’t make exceptions to the rules. If we don’t hold ‘er to the same standard then that’s not fair to everyone else, she made her choice to betray the entirety of humanity and thus she has to be punished the same way as anyone else.” She gritted her teeth as she slowly walked forward and put a hand on the boy’s shoulder.
“Get off of me!” The lavender mage shrugged the hand off and pushed his way past her. “I have something to take care of. I’ll refresh the bindings I put on her while you go do whatever the hell it is you were going to drag me off to do.” He shot a glare back at her and snarled a he met her gaze. The woman growled and exited the house in an equally aggressive way to how the boy himself had stormed off. I guess I should do something about this. He flung the hatch open and jumped down, he cast a levitation spell just before he hit the ground and slowly hovered down.
*Release Lailani?
* Yes             *No
The boy stared for a second before muttering to himself. “Yes.”
*Would you like to save your progress?
