What is Hermitzine, anyway?

Hermitzine is a fanzine, a compilation of illustration, comics and writing based around the long running Minecraft SMP Hermitcraft, with works focusing on the creative projects, collaborations and interactions the creators on the server (aka Hermits) share with their audiences. For each edition, we (the Hermitzine mods) announce the theme we're running with this edition, open applications, and pick our roster of collaborators from the artists and writers who want to be involved. 

Once our line up of collaborators has been selected, we invite all the contributors for the zine to our discord server, and the process of making the zine pieces starts! Contributors brainstorm an idea for a piece they want to do, and run it past our mods for approval, then work on it over the course of about 2 months (to make sure people have time to put together something they're proud of without having to ignore things like sleep, school and work). Hermitzine #9 has a little bit more going on with collaboration and format, but we go through that in the application form.

What's the timeline of events for this edition?

The current schedule for Hermitzine #9 is as follows:

March 02 — Applications open at midnight GMT

March 16 — Applications close at midnight GMT

March 23 — Acceptance / Rejection emails go out

March 30 — Check in 1 (initial sketches / ideas)

April 13 — Check in 2

April 27 — Check in 3

May 11 — Check in 4

June 01 — Final pieces are due

Late June / early July — Zine is published

How do I apply?

Fill out the form (we'll be posting them very soon)! We have a writers application form and an artists application form, both will be open between the 2nd and the 16th of March.

In your application, you'll be answering a few questions and sharing 3-5 of your best pieces, to let us know what you're about as a writer and/or artist.

Then all you have to do is sit tight and wait for our email on March 23rd to find out if you're in!

Who can apply?

We have three requirements: 1) you’re 15 years or older, 2) you can speak enough English to communicate about deadlines and other important zine-related discussions, and 3) you have a Discord account, as that is how all communications with contributors will be made. A free account is fine — we don’t send files through Discord itself, so there’s no need to buy Nitro.

What do I need to do / have to apply?

For all of our applicants, we ask for a small portfolio of 3-5 pieces of your best finished work. We ask for a small portfolio to keep our views of your work focused on what you think is you at your best. These portfolio pieces don’t necessarily have to be Hermitcraft related, or even belong to a fandom. As long as it’s your personal work and you’re proud of it, we want to see it.

For writers: we ask that the 3-5 works you submit are around 3,000 words maximum, since that is the vague limit you will have to work within the zine. You can submit excerpts from longer works as long as you specify that somewhere within the application piece.

Do I need to be well-known or have a large social media following to be accepted?

Not at all. Social media following does not factor into whether or not you’re accepted. You could have one follower or one thousand — either way, we’re looking at your portfolio. You don’t even need any social media at all! We ask for social media handles in the application in case we want to check out more of your work beyond your portfolio.

What do you look for in the portfolio judging criteria?

We look for several things when judging portfolios. For artists, the list includes:

Your ability to finish zine-quality pieces (fully-rendered, backgrounds, not rushed-looking, etc)

Hard skills: composition, color theory, anatomy, perspective, shape language, etc

Comic paneling skills, if applicable

Solid illustration styles that interest us and we want to see more of

For writers, the list includes:

Your ability to finish zine-quality pieces (complete and concise work, with a full narrative if applicable)

Good grasp on writing basics (grammar, punctuation, spelling, sentence flow, etc)

Solid writing styles / voice / characterization

Ideas and we find intriguing, interesting, or otherwise would like to see written in full

If either of these lists are daunting to you, don’t worry! We are very interested in people who are eager to try new things and push themselves as artists and writers. We’ve accepted many people before based on their apparent eagerness to improve and collaborate with others.

We also like applicants with a unique or unusual approach to artmaking. Some examples include: traditional media, 3D modeling, photo manipulation, graphic design, typography, poetry, etc. While these skills are fun to include, don’t worry — not having them won’t detract from your chance of getting accepted.

Can I apply for both an artist and a writer position?

Yes you can, but if you’re accepted, we’ll choose you for only one of the two options. For example, if you apply to both and we accept you for writing, we expect you to create a written piece for the zine only, no illustration. This decision will be revealed to you in the acceptance email you get once the application period is over.

Can I participate if I’m a traditional artist?

Absolutely! All we require is that you have a scanner in order to submit high-quality images of your work. We work around the 300dpi range, and unfortunately photos taken with phones or webcams usually aren’t high-quality enough for us to include.

How many artists / writers do you accept?

The number of participants (artists and writers combined) we accept depends on several factors — the most important of which are how many mods we have working on the zine and how much we decide we can handle. Historically, our acceptance count ranges anywhere from 35 to 75 participants, with our most recent editions hitting numbers closer to the top of that range.

How do I know my application was submitted correctly? What happens if the link to my portfolio doesn’t work?

If you don’t receive any word from us from the time you submitted your application to when the acceptance and rejection emails go out, then congratulations, your application was submitted correctly! If something is wrong with your portfolio, like if one or more of your links don’t work, we typically request access — which will then appear as an email in the inbox of whatever email is linked to the drive you shared your portfolio from. If the issue persists, you might receive a private message requesting access from one of the mods on a social media handle you included in your application. If you don’t receive an email or message from us, then everything with your application works.

Do you guys send rejection emails?

We do. If you apply to Hermitzine, you’re going to receive an email from us regardless of whether you’re accepted or rejected. If you’re rejected, we give you the opportunity to ask for feedback with your portfolio.

I applied but never got an email. What’s going on?

If you haven’t received an email even though we’ve announced they’ve been sent out on our social media accounts, please check your spam folder to see if it accidentally went there. This has happened a lot in the past!

If I’ve been rejected from an edition of Hermitzine, does that mean I can never apply again?

Absolutely not! You can apply to any edition of Hermitzine you’d like, from now until forever, regardless of the results of previous applications. We love seeing friendly names show up in applications!

Do people who have participated in prior editions of Hermitzine have a higher chance of getting accepted to the newest edition?

No. Applicants who’ve participated in previous editions have the exact same chances at getting into the newest edition than any other participant.

What content is allowed in Hermitzine?

Requirements for a piece are only to feature Hermitcraft and/or the Hermits primarily, follow the theme, be SFW and not have any shipping content. That means that crossover content (ex: the Empires crossover) and hermit-adjacent people can be included, and that pieces can be about content from any season of Hermitcraft.

LTB Worldbuilding Wednesdays: Intro/How I Got Here

When I spun up this blog my goal was simple: a place to dump screenshots of my Tavs and other BG3-related brainrot. My personal site's blog wasn't a good place for it, since I'm a freelancer and it's gotta have at least some concessions to "professionalism," so here we are. But it feels a bit too aloof to do these "Tav Tuesdays" posts chock-full with names and places unfamiliar to 99.9999% of readers here, so "LTB Worldbuilding Wednesdays" have arrived.

They won't be convoluted or super lore-dumpy, but they will provide context for my characters, who've been my 5e mainstays for years—with lives and stories and whatnot—before I imported them into BG3 and forced tadpoles in their heads. For every subsequent post in this series, I'll try to distill the TL;DR of a place or faction or whatever—but only enough for it to be relevant to a given Tav's story, because (again) I don't want to drown a reader in lore (unless that's your thing, which is totally fine and I'm down for asks about that).

I'm also in the middle of churning out a second homebrew fantasy atlas (more on the first one below the fold), so ideally these posts will keep me in the mindset of getting that work done instead of running yet another BG3 playthrough. Wednesdays are the weekly game night for my tabletop 5e group, so it's already a good day to be in worldbuilding-brain.

While it's been extremely fun and fulfilling to do over the past five years, I won't claim that it's the right way or only way to worldbuild, because that's silly given the wealth of other resources out there and the galaxy of creativity we're all capable of. It's worked for me, though, so it's not nothing. Here's a quick rundown of how I got here, with "here" being "a sufficiently fleshed out campaign setting with plenty of room to grow":

Creating a Unique Map Style

I'm a huge map nerd, and have reached a point in my life/career where I get to do freelance map design as a part-time job. I'm shaking off the aesthetic snobberies I learned as a graphic designer, because snobbery is too close to gatekeeping, but I'm still enough of a snob about map style to want my own stuff to be unique. In a sea of samey-looking hand-drawn-hobbit-maps, I wanted my homebrew world to stand out, so here's how I did that:

Creating Compelling Names

Once I had a unique visual style, I had to populate the world (or at least start to, one region or place at a time), which required some decisions about toponymy for names of places, people, and in-world history/lore, because pretty world maps can still feel boring without stories of who lives there:

Creating a Homebrew Fantasy Atlas

A map can only show the names, though—it can't tell the stories to a compelling level of detail—so here's where I got to combine lots of my different personal and professional interests and experience: my own fantasy gazetteer. I made all the maps (aforementioned map nerd), I did all the design work (two decades of experience in publication layout), I created/edited all the iconography/imagery (two decades in design plus two more before that as a generally creative person), and I composed/compiled all the lore (I have an English BA and I dabbled in journalism for a few years). Et voila: "The Nua Gazetteer, Vol. 1" was born.

My name is Marceline Baggaley, although I also go by a pen name: Marceline Luna. I am a third year student completing my Bachelor of Arts majoring in Creative and Professional Writing, and After I graduate I intend to enter the publishing industry.

I have long been passionate about the arts, with both editing and writing being my main points of interest, as can be seen reflected in my degree choice

Before reaching adulthood, I was an ATAR student who excelled in arts and humanities related subjects and I have been continuing my passion for learning ever since.

During this time, I completed a Certificate II in Creative Industries, where I learnt a variety of practical skills such as equipment handling, bump-in-bump-out skills, customer service, etiquette, and more, as well as more general skills such as teamwork, intuition, care-for-detail, adaptivity, and leadership.

I have experience working for a few years in retail for MyBeautySpot as my first foray with a professional working environment. From this I have strengthened my customer service and teamwork skills and honed my familiarity with phone, email, and workplace etiquette.

My passion for creative arts and both writing and editing continues into my personal life, with reading and writing being two of my most prominent hobbies. I have worked on many writing projects for the sake of my own personal growth, and have even worked with other emerging artists on personal projects.

Over the course of my degree, I have completed an internship at Rabble Books & Games as a part of Edith Cowan’s Professional Placement program within the arts. At Rabble, I gained an understanding of a more arts/publishing-adjacent workplace environment and was able to grow my knowledge of the inner workings of small business.

Notably, during this internship I got to experience setting up events, liaising with customers, preparing orders, stocking intakes of books, etc. My ability to work with others and maintain positive, supportive, and productive workplace relationships grew greatly during this period.

I have high proficiency with the English language and a strong grasp on readability, accessibility, and enjoyability when it comes to written work — which are all values that are important to know in depth for anyone creating books. In my studies, I have learnt how to edit to a high standard, although I am very enthused about continuing to learn more about editing styles and formats and grow as an editor.

Along with that, I consider myself personable and sensitive, and have a strong desire to promote diversity within the workplace. I have the ability to give constructive and meaningful critique and feedback in a way that is mindful of and uplifting for those receiving it.

With this portfolio, I have compiled a selection of both editing and writing work that I feel serves as a good representation of the standard of work that can be expected from me. Ministers with and without Portfolios

When you want to demonstrate your sincerity, you write a letter.

The summer is nearing its summit and 1982 is disappearing in a confused fog. Somewhere, Micheal Foot opens up an envelope. An ambitious young candidate, recently selected in some leafy suburb of London, has written to him. You can feel the youth in his writing - and, regrettably, a palpable eagerness to impress. Nevertheless, there are some admirable phrases:

Socialism ultimately must appeal to the better minds of the people. You cannot do that if you are tainted overmuch with a pragmatic period in power.

For men like Foot, members of a modern British tradition, politics and oratory are not separable. Even the timbre of your voice comes into it. On some cold picket-line, at some bored union congress, or against the baying of the other half of the House, you have to fill the air and rouse the spirits. In so many ways, the tradition of British socialism is a poetic tradition.

Maybe, then, he spots it a mile away. A lack of inspiration, the absence of a real perspective. That faint sense of pantomime. Or otherwise, Michael Foot, soon to be an ex-leader of the Labour Party, dimly registers the writer’s display of party-loyalty and just puts the letter aside. This man had crashed the party’s vote-share in Beaconsfield. Tony Blair is saving face.

Last Friday, it was announced that the constituency of Hartlepool would return its first Conservative MP in 62 years. Labour’s vote-share crashed by 16%. Perhaps most astonishingly, the Conservative victory in Hartlepool is only the second time in 40 years that a party in government has taken a seat from their opposition.

In immediate response, Leader of the Opposition Keir Starmer MP moved to reorganise the Labour Party’s campaign office. Importantly, Deputy Leader Angela Rayner MP was removed from her position as Chair of the Labour Party, the position ultimately responsible for election campaigns. As the Deputy Leader is elected separately, Starmer’s decision has been criticised as an attempt to undermine the influence of a senior elected official. However, as the days have passed, Rayner has emerged with a new position - or, more accurately, a few new positions. Angela Rayner MP now shadows Michael Gove MP as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and occupies the newly-created, elegantly-titled office of Shadow Secretary for the Future of Work.

Former MP for Hartlepool and Minister without Portfolio under Tony Blair, Peter Mandelson has been named by sources within the party to Guardian columnist Owen Jones. According to Jones, Mandelson signed off the press strategy for Shadow Cabinet members following the result in his former constituency.

It’s raining in Stockport. The King Street bridge is abandoned. Looking at the slow river, she knows that she is a cliché, a tired punchline. And she knows that she’ll have to leave school. Other girls have done it, so she’ll get through it, too. But it’s an abrupt and unceremonious change to whatever path she was on before. 16 and pregnant. A joke. Then again, wasn’t this always the intended outcome, in one way or another? Cornered. It was going to be a long time before she understood that there was anything that could be done about that.

The wind takes a few of the leaflets out from under his armpit and scatters them all over the carpark of Oxted station. A favour, he thinks. It’s 8 in the morning, they’re all commuters. No-one’s taking them. As if some serious city lawyer is going to read about the future of proletarian resistance, let alone in a pamphlet handed to him by a spotty adolescent. East Surrey Young Socialists. He isn’t blind to the humour of that. Some preachy privately-educated Surrey boy. He had tried to explain that he’d gotten into Reigate fairly and squarely, that it’d only just started asking for fees in the last few years. Much to his chagrin, by the way. People around here don’t listen. If they did, they’d see that there was nothing to be scared of. But they’re closed off, rigid. It’s enough to make you want to pack it all in, honestly.

His father was staring out at the snow falling on the houses of Hampstead Garden in one of his attitudes of preparation. He had an abiding sense of danger, of impending calamity. Peter always attributed that to his religiosity. Eschatology. The End Times. “Have you compiled your application yet?” “Of course, Dad.” Peter knew the counterpoint melody. Your mother and I have worked too hard. He would say it like that because his mother is the real concerned party. Descendants of the Labour Party aristocracy are obsessed with elite education. He is pretty sure that he will get in. He’s clever, goes to a good grammar. And when he gets in, he is going to have fun, the sort of fun you can only have at a place like Oxford. Judgement Day is a long way off.

The Hampstead Garden Suburb was the brain-child of two idealist architects, Raymond Unwin and Barry Parker. The pair were disciples of the Arts and Crafts movement, an aesthetic philosophy with global reach that found particular purchase among British socialists; indeed, Unwin was a life-long and active member of various socialist organisations. Hampstead Garden was to be spacious, communal and open to all social classes. It was built on land purchased from Eton College by a wealthy patron. The Hampstead Garden Suburb Trust Ltd., established in 1906, executed Parker and Unwin’s designs.

Peter Mandelson was born in 1953 to an advertising manager and the daughter of Herbert Morrison, the Leader of the House of Commons under Clement Attlee. He was raised in the Hampstead Garden Suburb, attended a local grammar school and then, studied at Oxford. As a teenager, he was a member of the Young Communist League. At university, he joined the Oxford University Labour Club.

As a veteran in public relations by the time of Tony Blair’s bid for leadership of the Labour Party in 1994, Mandelson, distrusted by trade union representatives within the party, played his part in the successful campaign in near anonymity, being referred to by staff only as “Bobby”. In his acceptance speech, Blair used the moniker when expressing gratitude to his campaign team. After running Blair’s successful general election campaign a few years later, Mandelson was appointed to the office of Minister without Portfolio, allowing him to attend Cabinet meetings without having any formal obligations. Critics have likened it to a sinecure. In 1998, Mandelson resigned from government, having failed to declare dealings with millionaire Cabinet colleague, Geoffrey Robinson. He is now a peer, happy to be part of the club.

Oxted is an incredibly old town. When William the Conqueror ordered a survey in 1086, Oxted had its various assets - hides, churches, ploughs - recorded. It remained a sleepy time-capsule until it was reached by the new railway system in 1884 and run-off trade from London began to bring money into the town. At the beginning of the last decade, it was the twentieth richest town in Britain by income.

Born to a nurse and a toolmaker in 1962, Keir Starmer was named for the first parliamentary leader of what would become the Labour Party, Keir Hardie. He attended a grammar school and was the first in his family to graduate from university, obtaining an undergraduate degree in law from the University of Leeds. As a result, he undertook postgraduate study at Oxford and became a barrister in 1987. During this time, he edited Socialist Alternative, a controversial magazine associated with various factions on the Marxist left.

Starmer is a relatively green politician, having only been selected as a candidate for Holborn and St. Pancras in 2014. The majority of his life has been spent working in the legal system. In 2010, Starmer successfully prosecuted 3 Labour MPs and a Conservative peer on charges of false accounting. In 2011, he encouraged the rapid prosecution of several rioters, sometimes on the testimony of undercover police officers. In 2012, Starmer brought a case against former Energy Secretary Chris Huhne which resulted in the only resignation of a Cabinet Minister over legal proceedings in British parliamentary history. In 2020, as Leader of the Opposition, Starmer ordered Labour MPs to abstain on the third reading of the Covert Human Intelligence Sources Bill, which granted undercover police officers full legal immunity for all actions undertaken on duty. Desperate to be heard, Starmer re-tweeted a Guardian column by Angela Rayner MP, adding: ‘We’ll make sure you know Labour is on your side.’

Stockport lies just south-east of the City of Manchester at the point where the Rivers Tame and Goyt become the Mersey. Although bisected by the feudal borders of the counties Cheshire and Lancashire, it belongs to a different epoch. Stockport is a town with almost 300 years of industrial history, home to one of the first mechanised silk factories in the entire British Isles. Surveying all of England for his 1845 history ‘The Condition of the English Working Class’, Friedrich Engels remarked that Stockport was ‘renowned as one of the duskiest, smokiest holes’ to be found in the industrial heartlands.

By the time Angela Rayner was born on a Stockport council estate in 1980, the country seemed eager to be free of this history. This eagerness sometimes manifested as a disdain for trade unionists and benefit claimants. Both of Rayner’s parents were eligible for benefits. And at 31, Angela Rayner was a senior official for the public-sector union Unison.

Having left school at 16 to raise her first son, she got her GCSEs by studying part-time at Stockport College, where she eventually qualified as a social care worker. At work, she clashed with management, discovering a flair for negotiation that would get her elected as a union steward. Finally, after years and years of confusion and uncertainty, someone was being made to answer.

@Calvin Bonner  Could you please relay the information you compiled to arrive at these assertions. Your hypotheses were well constructed and your reasoning is sound.

Tom Wilson  In 1990, I was teaching Sunday School to High Shcool students and the superintendent said something at Easter that I later found out originated with the Eastern Orthodox Church to the effect that Jesus had to die in order be Resurrection and it stopped me cold,

I decided that I needed to gain a deeper command of the Bible as a matter of due diligence and started with William Barclay's commentaries on them, starting with Matthew. When I got to Mark, the next in the series, I had an ephiphany reading the forward that Cornelius was the author. It just came into my mind, unbidden, and I knew I had to provide a lot more evidence to support the premise before I could take it public,

I was an English major in college and had several courses in the literature of the Bible, so I never came close to the apologetics of solo scriptura, which, in its present form, is, like Luther's commentaries, forensic in nature and a product of the Marxist dialectic historic deconstruction that became popular during the 6l0s. But it was apparent to me immediately that the Gospel According to Mark begins when Jesus appears above the Roman military horizon as a potential insurgent and the rest I've pieced together, bit by bit, over the years, the most important obstacle, as it turns out, being the structures of the Roman military.

My eye sight is such that I cannot read comfortably any long and, starting in 2012, began depending upon YouTube videos, such as Pawson, to provide context separate from the doctrine that it may be embedded in. Bruce Gore's extensive commentaries have been particularly useful because he is Presbyterian and my early church life was Presbyterian. I have his Historical and Chronological Context of the Bible (which he also presents as a video series) that is invaluable.

The thing is, I am an Army brat and a combat veteran and the narrative of Mark, in particular, falls stylistically into the genre of military journalism and history. And it would have been due diligence on the Roman's part to pay attention to this remarkable event. They had absolutely no expectation of resurrection and I can guarantee, from experience, that something like that would have gone through the legions like grass through a goose. It's just the way soldiers spend their time,

Now, for example, from Bruce Gore's series on the historical context of Revelation, I learned that Tertullian had a citation from the Roman archives that Tiberius had proposed elevating Jesus as a legal diety from intelligence he had received from Palestine (Apology V) and that, in his presentation to the Senate, he introduced the nomenclature "Christian" to Rome by 36 but it doesn't show up in Acts until 43 in Antioch, which had a very cosmopolitan population and routine trade with Rome. "Christian" is the sort of label soldiers give to indigenous populations in the way we called Vietnamese terrorists "Charlie". This indicates to me that a Roman portfolio around this whole Resurrection business had been developing Before Cornelius debriefed Peter in 40 and, of course, that portfolio is Quelle.

So, that's the way my defense of the premise that Cornelius is the author of Mark has come together: bits and pieces here and there, over the years. But Felix was not part of the Roman Christian Cabal inside the Praetorian Guard that both Pilate and Cornelius reported to, represented by Theophilus.

For simplicity's sake, I assume Luke began writing Acts as an amicus brief to support Paul's defense in Rome and that he relied, initially, on journals he would have routinely maintained beginning around 50, but that everything that he relates before that date is based on interviews and research he does while Paul is imprisoned in Caesarea, when the Jerusalem church, in particular Peter, introduces him to Cornelius and Cornelius makes Q available to him, along with the Gospels of Mark and Matthew (I also assume that the Gospel of Peter reflects the contents of the intelligence report that was forwarded to Tiberius that Tertullian cites and Cornelius provides Peter this version of events from essentially Roman sources)(it's important to recognize that the Christian narrative begins to reflect Roman Standard Time after Acts 10, which occurs in 39 or 40. The Gospel of Mark is rigidly  compliant to a Roman chronology, but very compressed. It is my thesis that the Gospel of John was written by John Mark as a memoir from his experience with Jesus between his 12th birthday sometime around the festival of Tabernacles in 26 and the Passover in 30, when he was 15. The narratives of Mark and John coincide in Chapter 6 before the Passover in 29 and converge on Palm Sunday in Chapter 11 of both books: Lazarus is raised from the dead the evening after the Triumphal Entry)

Now, I've also reviewed skeptics and anti-theists such as Ken Humphries and Richard Carrier, who skoff at the notion of Jesus, and Bart Ehrman, who I hold in contempt because he became Born again to be popular in high school and has become apostate to be popular as a college professor (and in solidarity with Dale Martin, a gay episcopalian who teaches a Yale Couse on line I have found very useful). Again, little bits and pieces fall out of their research that fills in blanks I can't find elsewhere.

I also review the videos of Henry Abramsom and Lawrence Troster who proved an essential Jewish perspective on the period and people, particularly in regards to Joesephus and Paul.

The thing is, Christianity ceased to be a Jewish celebration when He died and became the future of Rome with Resurrection. There is on doubt in my mind that both sides of the battle of Milvian Bridge was predominately Christian (a proposition Tertullian reflects) and Constantine's adoption of ΧΡ became a determining Force Mulitiplier for his soldiers and destroyed the morale of the opposing soldiers. And, just for the record, the collapse of the Roman Empire began when Constantine disbanded the Praetorian Guard, which had represented the executive functions of the republic for 1000 years, horizontally, and the decadent verticle structures of what became the Vatican and theocracy replaced it.

Anyway, this illustrates the nature of my sources and the evolution of my defense of the premise that Cornelius was the author of the Gospel According to Mark. In 2012, David Pawson became one of my first resources and once you strip away his Scots predestination, he is a valuable source of both hard fact and important historical trivia.

The biggest obstacle I have is to overcome the conventional wisdom that Mark was written after Paul's epistles had been circulating: it's a political issue of Evangelicals because they want Paul to represent primacy of doctrine and, in essence, that Paul sold Rome on Christianity.

The fact is, the Romans bought into Christianity whole hog with Resurrection, but they didn't have any idea what it was they had encountered except that it was big medicine. The important thing that Paul brought Rome was the Christian ethic contained in Romans 13:1 - 7, which endorses the secular rule of law of Rome.  The first 18 books of the canon, the 4 Gospels, Acts and Paul's 13 letters, represent field research in the manner of military evaluation and Hebrews is the finding that becomes the manifesto of the Roman Catholic Church leading to Nicea. I believe that Theophilus is the author of Hebrews and he played a similar role as John LeCarre's George Smiley as the case officer.

I'll leave it there except that it is obvious that the codex is a Roman innovation. The Roman intelligence services kept their spy reports on loose leaf papryus and transmitted lengthy reports comprised of raw intelligence from the field by individual sheets bound on one edge for expediency. And the rough coine Greek of Mark reflects the verbatum reports acquired from the spy networks. And my guess is, Mark was originally written in Latin.

Prince’s Trust Collaboration (Ongoing)

I have previously worked for 5 years as a Prince’s Trust Team Leader, delivering Team programmes in different colleges across London. This collaboration is something that was at the back of my mind for a long time as I know how difficult it is to engage students on the programmes or get them there in the first place. 

Find out below what does the Team programme involve: 

A Team Leader and mentor that I used to worked with, Mr Samuels, was going to celebrate the delivery of his 50th Team in July 2020. So I wanted to grab the opportunity to put together a collaboration between Photography and Film and Production students at Portsmouth University to cover the story by creating a short documentary (which could be used to promote the course). Alongside, environmental pictures and headshots would be taken, outcomes are yet to be discussed... (Marketing, Portfolio, Exhibition are possible) 

Step 1: Gathering a Team to contribute to the collaboration 

I sent a blurb of this project to different people that were recommended to me by tutors. And to my great surprise all of the people I targeted where really enthusiastic and responded really quickly. Consisting of 3 Film & Production students and 4 Photography students. 

Step 2: Organise a Team meeting for brainstorming of ideas and story boards

As a result of the meeting, where we discussed ideas and responsibilities: Laura compiled a very well presented booklet, gathering all information that needed to be shared to the contributors at WFC - She printed several copies for the meeting. 

Nicole was responsible to get the equipment and the Risk assessment signed off for the first meeting - where we would have opportunity to film testimonies at the Prince’s Trust Morgan Stanley centre, where I have organised former colleagues and students to get filmed and questions about their experiences on the Programmes. 

Step 3: Attend a meeting to pitch the idea to the Waltham Forest College 

I contacted the Prince’s Trust Marketing team, was helped by a previous colleague to approach the appropriate person. 

I also contacted the delivery partner manager at Waltham Forest college, in order to arrange a meeting in March 2020. (Agreed date 10.03.2020)

During this meeting we discussed the possibility of the project to go through and what WFC would benefit from this: 

Dates of filming were discussed with the Team Leaders, the most beneficial would be to undertake filming during week 2 (residential), 5-6 (community project), and another visit to film ex-students testimonies (before/after shots) maybe during a quieter time for you (week 7-8?).

As for the photography involvement to support the marketing department across the College and PTTP, we could discuss this further with Tom. I really liked the ideas of banners, Newsletters' cover potentially resulting into an exhibition of the work during an opening event for instance. The Delivery Partner Manager, Omur, mentioned that this could be a pilot for future students from the University of Portsmouth to do professional work for the College. What a brilliant opportunity. 

Step 4: Start gathering some testimonies and photographs concept ideas 

I had compiled a list of questions for the interviewees, and Laura was going to be the one asking the questions. I learnt on this day that in order to get the most genuine answers, these questions would need to be adapted to the individuals and probably reformulated. It was still a success to the Team on the day as we managed to get testimonies of a variety of people that knew a lot about the Prince’s Trust from different angles.

Sadly due to the global pandemic outbreak the University has decided to close down as from mid march this and all projects are not being allowed to go through until further notice. Most of the students have returned to their relatives homes, as we haven't been given a time when the University is likely to resume to normal activities. I am aware that Colleges are likely to close too. 

In the meantime, I will speak to the students to ensure development of storyboards and photographic ideas and make connections with people that would like to partake in this project.

I was a bookworm throughout my education! Classes came easy to me. I enjoyed school! College was a different story. I dreaded the days I had class, and struggled with unbearable anxiety & dread. I felt like my health, and sanity was more important than college at that point in my life.

English was ALWAYS my thing. We were required to organize a portfolio starting in 4th grade, and I feel in love with words. I enjoyed psychology quite a lot, as well!

val  never  really  cared  for  school  since  she  only  liked  the  weird  morbid  stuff  like  war  and  plague  and  death  so  she  started  playing  ice  hockey  in  like  the  6th  grade  and  her  mom  finally  started  paying  attention  to  her !!  like ‘wow  ok  ur  finally  worth  something  to  me’  which  gave  val  such messed up self-value  issues  ?  but  the  sport  became  val’s  life  and  her  whole  existence  revolved  around  it,  it  was  val’s  sole  source  of  happiness  for  so  long  tbh  :((
