me, gearing up to explain why the dragon prince's latest seasons have continued to disappoint me, that while i love the lore and worldbuilding and characters there are clear pacing issues that are so jarring it takes me out of the experience, and that i say all of this with great love for the series but there's only so much good concepts can do before animation has to catch up in order to retain the average viewer's attention. that although season 4 and 5 have been branded as "the mystery of aaravos" the titular character barely appears and that is a crime to me, that even if it's for the suspense and intentionally leaving the viewer/main characters in the dark it's not doing a good job at building up his character and i fear for the exposition dump that will inevitably happen later on. that i will be harsh in critiquing this series because i love it so much and want it to be the best it can be: *inhales*
also me the moment i actually finished the goddamn season:
Tumblr media
#no fair viren i want a canon lovechild with aaravos too are u kidding. i'd do anything to let him manipulate me#AARAVOS<3333#as mlm there is just something so lovely to me about aaravos like they put something in him that activates my neurons#aaravos#the dragon prince#the dragon prince season 5#love them. love this hot elf bastard. i feel ill#my critiques still stand btw. but god its so hard to hate it when hehe elf man <3#think im just grumpy they dont show aaravos more when hes literally the only thing keeping me watching at this point.#at first it was rayllum#but hmm....#some of the emotional side plots are... cheesy at best.... i wanted to roll my eyes at a lot of points... its just so overdone?#is it just me being used to these kinds of storytelling?? like its good but its not anything im not used to so i just put it on bg noise as#as i wait for the season to finish..#i hate to do this but not only is it avatar tla but also somewhat reminds me of RWBY. king i'm sorry to do this to you i really am..#to be fair theres nothing wrong. with being any of this. i think tdp is still nice standalone#it just drags out sometimes it's silly#also those clumsy sequences where it wanted to replicate that 3D + 2D animation hybrid#that spiderverse pioneered???? i mean. there was an attempt and i respect that#overall though!! i really do love this series i think it's still charming and im def tuning in to the next season with bated breath#i have more good to say than bad tbh if i tried theres just so much about it :]]]]] i love <3

Aang and Korra: Two sides of the same coin.
I know I've already made a post about this some time ago but i will do it again.
It's easy to say that their journey's are somewhat similar but I will go a little further and say that their journey's complete each other.
There's this quote, I've already saw a thousand times, that is: TLA is the history of a boy who learn to be the Avatar and TLOK is the history of the Avatar who learn how to be just a girl
While Aang grow up traveling the world , Korra grow up training isolated from the world.
While Aang already knew his life long friends at the age of 12, Korra only knew hers at the age of 17(except for Naga).
Aang wasnt the "perfect Avatar" from the problems of that world of war, that world needed a combative Avatar. Korra wasn't the "perfect Avatar" from the problems of that way more political world, that world needed a diplomatic Avatar. So to defeat Ozai, Aang needed to learn to be more like Korra and for Korra to just live in her world she needed to become more patient and diplomatic like Aang.
It's like Bryke made this on purpose ( captain obvious here). It would be to easy for them just to make an Aang2.0 but they actually made Korra, at least book 1 Korra, the opposite of Aang.
"oh but it would be better if they really made Korra an Aang2.0"
Really? Because if they had did that they won't have much new things to show us, because all the arcs would be like an copy of TLA, instead of its own thing.
But the things that Aang and Korra had in common is how much they needed their friends. The Avatar is powerful but it can't deal with all the shit alone.
The so called TLA fanboys and Korra's haters used to forgot that Aang didnt win the fire nation alone. He needed Zuko and Katara to defeat Azula, He needed the white lotus to free Ba Sing Se, He needed Toph,Sokka and Suki to destroy Ozai's Fleet. Oh and for all that to happen he needed Katara to save his life and the Avatar cycle in the and of Book 2 when Azula almost kill him.(and for a moment, I think she did)
But for those people Aang alone heal himself after Azula hit him with that lighting, Aang defeat Azula in the Agni Kai, Aang free Ba Sing Se, Aang destroy Ozai's Fleet.
Why Aang can have the help of his friends but Korra can't? Why Aang can like, almost died and nobody question his power and strength but Korra can't? Why Aang can make mistakes but Korra can't?
Do your guys notice that those blind haters never discuss about things like narrative choices but instead they only throw shit at Korra and Korra only.
I think the answer for that is simple. What those blind haters truly hate is the fact that Korra is a poc lgbt woman who isn't there just to be cute, girly and helpless. Because those people can't support to see any woman or girl not acting like they think they should.
So like I said. Aang had to learn to be more like Korra in the same way Korra had to learn to be more like Aang. So for this hating Korra is also hating Aang.
Oh dud, this post gets a path that I didn't predicted.
Oh and I almost forgot the fact on how TLOK ended things that started in TLA, like the Air nomads. In TLA they are gone and TLOK bring them back.
And also some cool stuff like while Aang connected with past Avatars, Korra connected with herself.
Aang was the last Avatar in a 10.000 cycle. Korra is the first in a 10.000 cycle. And if you see this, I think that was exactly what it was supposed to happen
Tumblr media
After Roku only has space for one more Avatar, maybe two, Aang and Korra.
So the air nomads predicted the new cycle Korra started? Or they predicted something more dark like the end of the Avatar in that harmonic convergence? Korra was supposed to be the last Avatar but her and her friends manege to save the cycle then?
PS: this post really started with parallels, pass through the "why people hate Korra and why those haters aren't even truly TLA fans", than ends with Avatar theories.
PS: Please don't get mad because I put "lgbt" instead of bissexual while talking about Korra. I just think that the show set a room for others interpretations about her sexuality, like that she, instead of bissexual she is a lesbian who was trapped in a heteronormative compulsory. I think both interpretations are fine, the show set room for both of them (probably without even notice).

Let's talk about Katara
Through the years I've heard lots of comments about her character, memes and even write before on what I think about her.
And i still feel a lot of people don't understand her character. And i say this because I'm tired of seeing people somewhat comparing her character arc with Toph's like if they are the same person.
First of all: Katara ain't a fighter. Of course she teaches Aang to master Waterbender and fought a lot during the 3books of TLA but she ain't a fighter. She doesn't look for a fight, she actually trys to avoid it. In other hand, Toph loves fighting and she does looks for a good fight however she can. So yes, compare Toph with Katara arc is wrong.
I've also comment before about Katara's appearances in The Legend of Korra and yes i understand and i also think is sad that we didn't saw any statues of her in Republic City (even though I think she may have her statue in the hospital or something) but i think there's people missing some things
1. Is The Legend of Korra so as much as is amazing be able to see old Zuko, Toph and Katara, they aren't the protagonists here, their arc was already told in TLA. So there's lots of people complaining that there's no much Katara, Zuko and Toph there and they should have had a bigger role and all but like? They aren't the protagonists here.
It would be so easy for the writers just don't show them at all and put other characters to be in their spot. Like, replacing Zuko with Iroh II, Toph's with both of her daughters, Katara with Kya.
But no, they give us this fanservice of seeing old Zuko, Toph and Katara. And i personally like and think that what we saw of them in TLOK matches what we saw of them in TLA. Agreeing or not with their life's choices.
2. There's a difference between what we want for a character and what actually matches with their arc and story.
With that said, a lot of people also hate how after the war Katara basically just became Aangs girlfriend and later a wife and mom.
Again, for me, Katara never pass the image of a fighter in the context of someone who loves fighting like Korra or Toph per example. So for me, makes sense that after the war she probably focused more on her healing abilities and also helping Aang and Zuko with the creation of Republic City.
Let's remember that the avatar world has its moments of sexism, and of course things changed since the "we don't train woman to be a waterbending fighter" bullshit from the northern Watertribe in TLA to Korra's time. But i wouldn't be surprised if the society in between the end of TLA and the beginning of TLOK still had some sexists shit with Katara sadly being seem only as the avatar's wife. And yes this sucks
Also there's a lot of people that gets mad because Katara choose a more quiet and common life without being a part of the politics and conflicts. What's the problem if after she had her kids, Katara choose to dedicate her life to her kids since herself grown up without a mother?
Just as Toph gived too much freedom for her daughters since she grown up without any of it. Why think that Katara became a housewife since she lost her mother as a child is absurd and bad writing?
Dude Katara had mommy issues, okay, not really issues like Azula's but she definitely felt her death maybe even more than she expected. So do you guys really think she would be like "fuck that" to her kids and just travel the world solving shit?
And no, this DOESN'T make her a weak character. It makes me mad how people often weaken characteristics that are more associated with femininity like motherhood in this case.
