PASH! February 2019 - Itou Setuo [Mob] & Ootsuka Akio [Dimple] Special Interview

Here’s Itou Setsuo [Mob] & Ootsuka Akio [Dimple]’s joint special interview from PASH! February 2019, in semi-summary style. Contains some lovely meta on Dimple & Mob’s relationship, some headcanon confirming notes on Dimple & Reigen’s relationship, Security Guard Dimple’s popularity, and more!

Ootsuka is asked when he knew season 2 was going to happen. “It was a little before the public announcement. My honest response was, ‘that took its time, didn’t it!’ (Laughs).” [...] “Mob Psycho 100 is a tactful work in every way - the anime not getting a second season was unthinkable.”

Itou & Ootsuka are asked how Dimple and Mob view one another. Itou states that during LOL arc, Mob viewed Dimple as an enemy, and following that arc he remains cold toward Dimple. “But his attitude toward Dimple gradually thaws, to the extent that by season 2 Mob-kun pretty much trusts Dimple. He even leaves his body in Dimple’s care during Mogami arc.”

Ootsuka: “To possess Shigeo - that’s always been Dimple’s dream (laughs). Had this been the Dimple from back when the two first met, then without a doubt, he would’ve run away with his body.”

Itou: “Mob-kun and Dimple’s relationship in season 2… I think it’s something close to a, ‘we don’t call it that but we both get it’, type of close friendship.”

Ootsuka is asked his thoughts on Mob as a character. “Mob Psycho 100 is ultimately a story about Shigeo’s growth - he’s lovely. His growth in season 2 in particular is amazing. He doesn’t even flinch away from tackling an enemy as powerful as Mogami.”

Itou: “Mob-kun and Mogami’s battle is an esper battle, but that big battle contains the question, ‘How are espers supposed to live?’”

Ootsuka: “I feel the relationship Mob and Dimple have is similar to that of Kitarou and Nezumi Otoko [from GeGeGe no Kitarou]. At first, Dimple tries to manipulate Mob, but by the time we get to Mogami arc I feel Dimple thinks of Mob as being too much to handle.”

Mogami being voiced by Ishida Akira is brought up, to which they both sing his praises. Itou: “In the show, Mob-kun defeats Mogami, but in real life I was completely blown away by Ishida-san’s performance…!”

Ootsuka praises the casting for the anime. “The superb smoothness of Sakurai-kun’s performance as Reigen is praiseworthy, and Itou-kun’s Mob is excellent. I wonder who’d play Dimple if it wasn’t me.”

Itou: “I can’t think of Dimple as anyone other than you, Ootsuka-san.”

Q: "What does Dimple think of Reigen?"

Ootsuka: “Reigen introduces himself as an esper, but truth is he has no powers - he’s simply a fraud. Dimple respects Reigen in his own way, as Reigen has gotten Shigeo to idolise him as his Shishou. If Shigeo wasn’t in the equation, then for Dimple, Reigen would have no worth. They’d have no common ground. However, the two of them have been dragged into various different situations together, and in that - utility value put to one side - I think he’s come to feel an attachment to Reigen. I suppose you get a sense of Dimple’s growing humanity there.”

*Dimple’s handsomeness increases upon possessing a human. Security Guard Dimple’s nihilistic coolness - thinking about him even now, your heart will skip a beat!*

Ootsuka is asked if there was anything that troubled him in preparing for the role of Dimple. Ootsuka: “Dimple is, at heart, a sly guy. But, in being with Mob, that slyness gradually gets washed away - that’s how I perform him, I suppose.” Mentions how the plot of season 2 up until the latter half functions without Dimple.

Itou: “No, [...] Season 2 has plenty of stories that take place from Mob’s side and Reigen’s side, and Dimple acts as the intermediary between the two every time.”

Dimple possessing various characters is brought up. Ootsuka: “During season 1, I changed my performance with each possession. I thought, since he uses their vocal cords when he possesses people, it’d be natural to change my voice. I wanted to speak in a similar way to Shigeo when Dimple possesses him during Mogami arc, but I was told to not do that by the director, which was disappointing (laughs).”

Q: “Seems like when Dimple possessed that security guard in season 1, he was amazingly popular with girls.”

Ootsuka: “Girls… they seem to be infatuated with cool, yet sinister and malicious people, aren’t they? Security Guard-san’s facial expressions are a little bit on the sinister side, so I performed the role as such. I suppose that’s what hit the spot with all the girls out there.”

They’re asked if there’s anything they became aware of when recording dialogue scenes between Mob and Dimple. Itou: “For Mob, Dimple’s presence has become a given, so he tries to not sugarcoat his words when talking to him.”

Ootsuka: “That’s because Dimple is kinda like Shigeo’s pet dog!”

Itou: “Actually, he tries to not be too cold when he talks to Dimple (laughs).”

They’re asked how the atmosphere is when recording together.

Itou: “I’ve discussed this before, but Ootsuka-san is the mood maker when we record!”

Ootsuka: “With Mob Psycho 100, I’m both the oldest person there and the one with the longest running career. There’s plenty of young people who record for the show; my aim is to get everyone smiling and lighten the atmosphere.”

Itou: “Before recording for season 2 I’d performed in the stage play, and as a result my acting was initially over the top. I’d lost what made Mob Mob. However, Ootsuka-san told me I’d truly become an actor. That made me really happy.”

They’re asked what highlights there are to look forward to with Mob and Dimple. Ootsuka mentions Mob’s growth, and that Dimple possesses more characters. Itou says Mob’s growth as well, and the support Dimple gives Mob when he’s in a tough spot.

Ootsuka: “When Mob seems like he’s gonna crumble under the pressure, Dimple’s role is pretty much to say, ‘get a hold of yourself!’ (laughs).”

Itou: “In that way, too, Mob-kun needs Dimple in his life. I’ll be glad if you’re able to appreciate the ‘buddy’ kind of friendship they have.”

Q: “Say if you were to become Dimple, which character from Mob Psycho 100 would you join forces with?”

Ootsuka: “Definitely Reigen. If we joined forces, we’d surely be able to swindle a lotta money out of people. All we’d do is fight, but, ‘we’re making a lot of money so I guess that’s just how it’s gotta be.’ (Laughs).”

Itou: “If I were Dimple, I’d join forces with Mitsuura-san and truly try to study powers. I’d want to help people who have faint powers bloom, using Dimple’s powers.”

Ootsuka: “That’s basically how Ritsu awakened to his powers, huh.”

Itou: “[...] Naturally, joining forces with Dimple brings sinister ideas to mind, doesn’t it. Say if he joined forces with Teru-kun, and the two of them ended up having a relationship similar to what Dimple and Mob have now, a different kind of story would unfold. If he joined forces with Teru-kun before he met Mob, Teru-kun would be full-throttle bad… I think some major psychic battle action would unfold between them (laughs).”

KIRAMUNE MUSIC FESTIVAL 2019 -10TH ANNIVERSARY- EXPERIENCED REPORT! Part 2

Before I continue, here is the picture of how the stage was set up

Anyways, I bought my ticket for Day 1 from a friend in Instagram, and she got A Stand in 3rd Base side. They started letting us in at 12 in the afternoon, and it was unexpectedly fast. When we entered the Dome, they were playing MVs, and yes, MVs from 2009! Feels! Watching their MVs on a big screen! I also couldn't contain my excitement since they were showing PVs of their recent released albums and will be releasing, and guess what, they showed VERSUS!!!!! Namidai, Yocchin, and Kakki were so cool! It was a short PV, like 10 seconds? Or 15? But the hype was there! When there were lots of people inside, you could really hear the cheering!

Okay, so I wrote everything I could remember from Day 1! Honestly, I couldn't remember much since Day 2 really had a big impact to me! And yes, Day 1 was really different from Day 2!! I cried lots during Day 1!

We headed to our seat, and actually at first we sat at the wrong row. We thought our seats were at the very top of A Stand, but turned out much closer to the stage! I mean, to the small side stage! I also had a chance to meet with my friend from Twitter, who is from Singapore!

[A-chan, N-chan, and me! When we were still sitting at the top of A stand, we were even getting excited that what if they used cart and go around?! We would be able to see them (well it didn't happen, and we moved closer to the stage]

[International Fans! From Singapore and Canada! Their seat was really close to the stage hahaha!]

Five minutes before 3:00 PM, we thought they would start the Reminders for Rules and Regulations, but nah, they played one more MV, and it was Namidai's. After his MV, black screen then Ever Dream played, and after the 2nd chorus, the Rules and Regulations were showed, courtesy by chibi Kiramune Members. And after that, they played Ever Dream again, then finally it's show time!

The intro video really made me cry! Hahahaha! They were all clips from 2009! And the member introduction started with the latest members SparQlew, Yocchin, Trignal, Nobu, Kakki, Namidai, Hiroshi, Miyu, and then special guest! CONNECT! Seriously the cheer was really loud!!

I had no idea what colour should I choose next. I had three, so one of them was Purple for Hiroshi's, but the other two, I kept on changing them.

Then, first song was Bokura no Egaku Mirai, gosh! I stayed with purple, red and white for my blades {Hiroshi, Miyu/Ryouhei, Nobu}. Their entrance was so grand! (Here's a correction here, sorry, I just remembered their entrance, the stage split into half was when CONNECT entered, their entrance was the big moving stage lifted up along with the members, and they moved towards the end stage.) They were all wearing a very flashy clothes of blue, with mostly blue and I think there were shapes on it and the colour of each members were there!

SparQlew's got a part for Bokura no Egaku Mirai, on the first chorus, they got the KAmiYU's part, it was really divided into five of them. And the second chorus, they got the Uncle Bomb part.

Things really get wild on the next one! It's their special medley! The first one was Miyu, and he sang "doko ma demo", and I would be honest, I couldn't concentrate to where should I look, since they just spread! And all I could remember were SparQlew went to the main stage, and the others spread at the long centre stage. So I just searched for Kamiya-san, and he was smiling so bright coming towards to our side! Me and my two friends just lost it, since the three of us Like Kamiya-san! It was special song medley, after Miyu, Hiroshi sang "shirikagiri" at the very end of the middle long stage, yes near us, and I was shouting again!! And sorry, but my eyes just followed him, but when he went to the other side, my eyes just went towards SparQlew members, ChibaSho and Hozumin went down the stage, and made all the fans on our side went crazy. The other three were on the other side. Since yes they went to the smalllll side stage, I could clearly, clearly saw their faces! I am into SparQlew, especially Hozumin! So I really got excited seeing him there!

Lol! Anyways, after Hiroshi, the order was on how they entered Kiramune. Namidai sang UTAO, Kakki sang Endless journey, Nobu sang Hello, Ms. Sunshine, Trignal sang Gentei Kaigi Ready Set Go!, Yocchin sang Wasshoi, and SparQlew sang Hajimari no Sora.

After SparQlew, Miyu finally introduced our nii-sans! The return of CONNECT and the whole dome went wild! The first song was Say Hello! And I was shouting on top of my lung with "Hello! Hello!" While crying! Too much feels when they showed up on top of the small moving stage. The other members were still there, and the dome was really hype-up! CONNECT stayed at the moving stage, and by the end of Say Hello, the members gathered around the small moving stage at the centre of the middle long stage. After Say Hello, CONNECT's next song was cone sen followed by Pride reamer!

After CONNECT, the order of the performers were on how they entered Kiramune. So from CONNECT up to SparQlew.

Again, I would just write all I could remember. And all of them except SparQlew sang 3 songs, and Miyu had a medley song, and the songs were from his early albums.

There was a video playing behind Miyu, his early performance of エール in Kirafes. I couldn't help but cry again, since it was his debut song, and first Kirafes performance. After that, he had a song medley, five songs from his early albums.

Hiroshi also sang 3 songs from his early albums, it was really nostalgic! My tears really didn't want to stop! The butterflies at the background were so beautiful!（笑）

Namidai sang Yellow Man from his new single release, and my tears just stopped, yes, literally stopped! So Namidai started from the end of the middle long runway stage, and at the very main stage there was a tall yellow ranger came out, and he danced 'gui gui (do it)' the dance step from Yocchin's song, idk if you watched the Kirafes2015 one, the encore part. Because of that Namidai asked him "aren't you Egu?!" Though he denied, we all knew who it was. I think Yellow ranger was there for only 15 seconds.

Kakki was up next, and we were looking for him, we could hear his voice, but nowhere to be found, but then on the other side of the dome, people start cheering. He was on a big cart! A cart with Kiramune logo star on it! オシャレ!

Next was Nobu! Oh, I could remember very well when he sang Sai Saikou, he used both the small stages on each side. I couldn't help but fangirl too much since I could clearly see Nobu's face while singing Sai Saikou! I really love this song! He sang it with KAmiYU last Kirafes, then he sang it this year again, and I was able to see it closer!

I apologize for Yocchin but during his part, I went to the washroom! But I could hear his voice, and there was fireworks. I returned exactly at the end of his 3rd song. He was playing guitar for Dramatic Surf Coaster!!!!!! Actually, I regret missing this part!!!

Trignal was up next, and I never thought that they would sing Message From Live first! My memory here was a bit hazy. Because their entrance on 2nd day had a big impact, I couldn't remember at all! But I could remember that they were on cart, not the same with Kakki, but the usual small ones.

SparQlew was next, and they performed two songs from their new album, Bokutachi no Horizon and Abracadabra! They were so cute! So cute! The dance step levelled up! To why I said that, I apologize but when I watched KF2018 Bluray, you could still see that they weren’t in synch still, but this year, man they nailed it!

After SparQlew, it was talk corner. First day, SparQlew with CONNECT, Miyu, and Kakki. I would try to remember what they talked about here. But, they talked about the weather. They were somehow blaming Iwata-san since he is an Ame-otoko, but thankful since Suzu-san was there, and he is hare-otoko. There was one time that it became so bright on our part, and they were worried on the other side since we could feel the warm, but the other side was freezing. I could remember they were saying how CONNECT were really ojiisan since SparQlew members were with them. I couldn't remember if it was during the MC talk, but they talked about SparQlew's hair. Since Hozumin, ChibaSho and Takuto had their hairs dyed, and they didn't want their hairs to be the same. Also, they talked about their Kirafes experienced, since last year they were only guests, and their real first Kirafes was in MetLife Dome. Also, Kakki and Takuto already had planned to have a drink once Takuto become 20 years old! Also Miyu pronounced SparQlew with perfect English!

Day 3 at Japan Expo Malaysia (28th July 2019)

Today was the last day. The day that I would last see the KiREI members. Cue gonna be a cry baby and go through Post Concert Depression (look it up hahah). Since I wanted to make the most of it, I wore the KiREI T-shirt I bought the first day I met them, which is gorgeous by the way (albeit it was a stock from their concert in Bangkok), especially the back side and I really love it!

As I said in the part one in Day 2’s report, I promised Hanapii that I was gonna draw an illustration for them. But here’s the thing, I initially thought to just post it on Twitter, but then my father said, “You should show them tomorrow” and that was exactly what I did! Now, the previous night’s adrenaline rush and fatigue was no joke, I was so exhausted, and my mind was so jumbled since I was still processing what happened at AKB48’s concert and at the airport (toldya it was VERY overwhelming). Thankfully I brought my drawing tablet in this trip (I don’t know why I did, but thank God I did). I barely finished sketching until I succumbed to exhaustion and went to sleep. The next morning I literally finished breakfast within 10 minutes and went back to our room and stayed there to finish the illustration. Since their last concert started at 2, and I had like 3 hours left to finish it (I wanted to be there by 1). Thankfully I finished on time and I quickly made my way to Pavilion.

When I arrived, once again I was surprised with the lack of people waiting at the stage (outdoor by the way), and this time I didn’t care what people thought and I just stood at the front row under the blazing sun, all in black clothes, and texting to my Discord fellas (lol). So first Austin and another host went up the stage and gave a quick introduction about KiREI and apparently KiREI was made up of 3 disbanded idol groups named “Tokyo Clear’s Smile” (this is the group where Hanapii originally came from, which I found out a couple nights ago lol), “Spring Chubit” and “Astarisk”. The girls were called in and dear gosh! Today they wore yukata again, but different designs than the first day! I just really like it when J-idols wear yukatas or any form of traditional clothing. It’s even more amazing that these girls were not just dancing, but also jumping in them! You have to admire their abilities, if not, impressed, cuz here’s the thing some of their dances were pretty vigorous, and after seeing their performances 3 times now, I could tell that Chori-chan is the ‘genki’ girl as she tended to jump the highest, dance with the most energy and also the one to rile up the audience. Miayan has the best and brightest smile that would capture anyone’s hearts (which explained why she has a fan account). Meanwhile Hanapii has the best balance in terms of her dance, her movements weren’t too extreme, and the fluidity and precision made her dance moves better, hence for me she’s the best dancer among the trio.

For this performance, Mianyan noticed me the most and as I said, her smiles were SO BLINDING! I could feel myself getting overcome by it that I had to look through my camera lens instead of my own eyes lmaoooo. Since I’m heavily biased for Hanapii I tended to look at her the most, and I couldn’t help but realized that she seemed a bit down today. I guess it wasn’t surprising since 3 days straight of performing and doing meet-and-greets could tire anyone. However, when she made eye contacts, she made sure to smile as much as she could (God I love her). Meanwhile, Chori-chan climbed in my Oshimen radar because of her bright and energetic interactions with the audience, including myself, especially whenever she invited the audience to chant with her. She’s really like the Takamina in this trio (that’s what I call ‘charisma’!)

Before they started the fifth song, Chori-chan told us that it would be their last song (cue the “Eeeeehhh~” by the audience), and I started to sob and felt my heart twinge a bit. Emotions from the previous night in the airport kind of resurfaced and once again I told myself to not cry or that would make them feel bad if they noticed. Their last song was ‘Dame Otoko’ and I’d say this was my most favorite after ‘Say Yeah! Away!’ (which I kept humming and singing to when I was at the airport the night before) and ending it with this song just made it twice the impact. The performance went splendidly but there was one point again the tears just started to leak, and I had to use my camera to hide my face. Again, I was like “NO. Don’t ruin this for them!”

After they were done, they girls professed their love for being in Malaysia, wanting to come back again (OH HECK YAS, please come back again! And I will too!) Then everyone was called for the obligatory group picture, and now me being in the first row finally paid off!

After the photo session the girls needed some time to freshen up for the last greet-and-meet session. And being the excited fan I was, I waited nearby at their booth, trying not to stand out as much as I could lol. When the booth opened, I immediately lined up behind some prepared fans. This time the man who was selling the merch definitely remembered me as he was like “Welcome back!” This time I was gonna be greedy and bought two Cheki tickets for each member and a towel. He was counting the total cost and I told him “Sanbyaku ringgit (300 ringgit)” which impressed him, and he was like “Oh! Your Japanese is good!” While I was telling him that wasn’t true, he noticed the KiREI T-shirt I was wearing and smiled even more. Honestly I really wanted to shake his hand right then and there, to thank him for his great work, but we just ended up chatting a bit more hahahah.

Before I was about to join the line, Hanapii saw me and she thought I was gonna immediately take pictures with her (oh you sweet darling). But I told her that today I was going to take pictures with everyone, and that I would start from Mianyan, then Chori-chan and finally her. When I went to the line Chori-chan spotted me and immediately assumed that I was gonna take pics with Hanapii as she asked “With Hanapii, right?” I told her I was gonna take pictures with everyone this time, and she was VERY happy, as in she started hopping (ADORABLE).

So I took a picture with Mianyan first. She kept saying I was cute and ‘comel’ (Malay for ‘cute’) and she wrote that on the polaroid frame. I told her where I was from, and since she had a confused look (cuuuuuteee) so I explained the location. I also thanked her for following me on Twitter (she was the first one who followed me). For the first round she and I took a pic with the freshly bought towel hahaha (she was really impressed that I wore their T-shirt too). I was gonna take another picture with her since I bought 2 tickets for each of them but she needed to assist to take pictures for other people, so being the social awkward I was, I stood back awkwardly and ended up going back in line since I wasn’t sure if I should’ve stayed and wait for Hanapii and Chori-chan to be free so I could take pictures with them.

While I was lining up in the very long line I realized Hanapii ran past me to the end of the line to give the last guy a sign that says ‘the end of line’ ah so adorable, at the same time I guiltily thought “Ah crap, I bought 6 tickets which meant I basically took 4 to 5 people’s chance to interact with the girls…!” When I reached them, I made sure to use two of my Cheki tickets in one go so that I didn’t have to go back in line as I specifically said, “Two tickets”. Chori-chan was so happy when I said I was using two tickets (can she get more adorable??). The first round she and I did a heart pose and when she was signing it poor girl thought my main name was “Nagatsuki” she actually remembered me on Twitter (gasp!) and she double confirmed my name with Hanapii like “‘Nura-chan’ dakke? (Was it ‘Nura-chan’?” And Hanapii was like, “Un! Nura-chan!” LOOOL! Before taking a picture for the second round, I told her on my Twitter I post my art and showed her an illustration of them that I made. She went “Amazing!” so many times I thought she was going fangirling as she started hopping on the spot (SO KYOOT). For the second round she held me close with one hand while her other hand was patting my head (I find this a bit endearing since she and I are about the same height while the other two are taller). While waiting for the polaroid to print and while she was signing them she kept saying I was cute and all, then asked if I was travelling so I told her that I came here in order to visit the event, that I was willing to fly over. She then asked me to come and see them again in Japan and before I could even respond she pulled my pinky with hers and made a pinky promise looooooooool. I remember I was so shocked that I stuttered, “Ahhh yeah yeah I’ll definitely try”.

Since Mianyan was busy I had to take pictures with Hanapii first in order to let the line go smoothly. I don’t care how many times she has greeted me with the cutesy “Nura-chan~~~” my heart still fluttered so much! Before we could take a picture, I mentioned about the previous day’s promise that I’d draw something for them and showed my illustration to her. She was like “Eh?!?! No way!” as I told her that I finished it earlier that day. She was so shocked that she was speechless and Chori came over to us and was like “Amazing right! She even drew my red ribbon!” while pointing at my phone. They traded a couple of words together and I just stood there smiling like an idiot. So we ended up taking a picture with that illustration lol.

For the second round, Hanapii was so happy with my visits, my support and the illustration that she was thanking me so many times and she literally hugged me so closely for the picture (I’m not joking, even I was like “Is hugging okay???” and she was like “Yes its completely okay!”). I thought that I still needed to put some distance between our faces, just as precaution, but nope, Hanapii pulled me so close that our cheeks were touching each other! IM SO GLAD IM A GIRL cuz so far I’d seen when they hugged guys (I was the only girl who lined up for the meet-and-greet), they still put some distance. So yeah, I was SO HAPPY with how Hanapii treated me. I then told her that I teared up a bit during their last song since it was their last day and she was like “Eehh don’t cry~” and started patting my head. She then said, “Let’s meet again in Japan, I’ll wait for you.” I thought I’ve died enough. But this comment, THIS COMMENT. I remember I blanked out for a second or two and just nodded (I couldn’t make that promise since I needed to consider my circumstances but MAN I WANTED TO PROMISE HER SO BAD). I was very reluctant to leave and this may sound pretentious but it seemed like she didn’t want me to go either cuz when she held my hands it was firmer than the last 3 times she shook my hands. Before leaving she asked me if I was gonna attend the closing ceremony later that night. Sweetheart you know I won’t miss it for the world so I promised her that I would.

For the last handshake I told Mianyan that I cried during their last performance and she was like “Ehhh~ don’t cry~ were they happy tears?” I took a second or two to rethink my words and spewed “It was both happy and grieving tears since this is the last day” hence we both ended up laughing. I was gonna show her the illustration on my phone, she ended up commenting my Murayama Yuiri lockscreen “Ooh~ cute!” and I almost had to bite my tongue to stop myself from saying “Ah that’s another idol (who happens to be my waifu)” so I just giggled a thanks. Thankfully she was also very happy with the illustration that she took the phone from me (she also added I must post it on Twitter). She then asked me if I just started liking idols (girl if only you knew hahah) so I told her I’ve always loved idols. After taking the picture, Chori-chan told us I was good at winking (I didn’t realize I winked to be honest) so Mianyan went “Ehh seriously??” and quickly checked the polaroid frame and was like “Oh yeah!” while I was fluttering, going “oh nononono, I didn’t mean to do that”. I laughed embarrassingly at first, but I did it anyway and she was soooo happy. I knew Mianyan is the boldest among this trio but guuurrrrllll you’re climbing on my Oshimen radar too strong! And that’s how I ended my last meet-and-greet session with KiREI members in Malaysia.

But I liked him quite much "lion mode", it gave him a sassy aura it suits him so much!!To tell the truth, I'm a little disappointed the DVD was filmed in Fukuoka when he had no lion mane anymore (I don't know about the fake tattoes, I have seen no pic from Fukuoka apart the TORN one). I mean, to me it was as if this tour was 'lion-mane-and-tattoed-Yasu trademarked, I don't know if you get what I mean. Not seeing lion Yasu on the DVD will make me feel a bit like "it's not the live tour I saw"... but just ignore me and my complaints, sorry XD>> I was afraid they wouldn't hold my hand at the end of the show me too, sort of XDIn Nagoya I held hand with a otoko no eighter (a teenager, he was there with another male and a female friend)... I feel so proud of otoko no eighters!!!About eighters... it's true that me and a friend had to "fight" for gaining gintapes at the end of the concert, getting none when said girl had her arms full with various gintapes already and she wanted (and manage to collect) more. But, apart from that episode, I met the first eighters (Japanese, French, Dutch, German) when I went to Rotterdam for Subaru's movie première, and it was only thanks to the Japanese eighters I met there, if I managed to have a ticket for the recital last year. So I'm really really grateful, for this bond. I think eighters are truly kinda special.>> It's not the kind of songs I usually like, but Kanjani makes it awesome for weird reasons? Kanjani8 has this power really. Me too, I think there's more than one song that has this special vibe coming from the guys actually singing it.My friends said that the original 'It's my soul' song (written by I can't remember who) was VERY different from the way Kanjani8 sing it, but it has become special especially because of the very K8 sing (and danced) it. I mean...♥I'll add you on Tumblr if I haven't already done it! (sorry, I'm not adding just everybody because just like on RL I'm a bit wary with friendships, I prefer adding people not just with similar tastes but that I feel confident enough to add, also, or that I met or talked enough with. Aoi Shouta LIVE 2017 WONDER lab. ～prism～ Osaka/Tokyo 2017-02-04/2017-02-12 - Report

*DO NOT REPOST*

Two reports in one post! The majority of the live was similar ✨ Osaka parts will be in italics, Tokyo in bold, plain text means it happened in both lives! Most the official photos I've used here are mainly from Tokyo.

As usual not 100% accurate!

At Tokyo Live

*Thanks to those who responded to my post! ^^* So I got to my seat and after I was ready I messaged @jeanette-ting seeing if she got to her’s ok (we applied for tickets separately so never got to sit together 😢 ). And not long after she told me she spotted Chiharu!!! Here are screenshots of our convo 😂Thought it’d be easier than trying to explain it all lol Hopefully it’s not too small and you can all read it! (Probably better to read on mobile devices since you can zoom in!) Please excuse the spelling mistakes, as you can tell I was really excited 😂😂

And~ then the live started!

If only I could have recorded him 😂 It’s not in the convo but I also saw Agematsu Noriyasu, BROCCOLI’s composer (third photo) he was sitting next to Naru, Shoutan’s kouhai in S Inc (second photo). And I couldn’t tell who it was next to Agematsu-san, but since they were next to him and Naru, I guessed it must be Satou Hiromi, S Inc’s president (third photo). Araki Hirofumi, Kento’s actor in Smile Mermaid was also there (last photo)

I seen Japanese fan reports saying that Onoken was also there but I never seen him.

Video

The live started with a video of painter/artist Shoutan in an art studio. His Budokan Prince outfit was also displayed in the room ☺️ He was drawing a white, space-like outfit. He then turns and look straight to the camera with this expression (noticing us)

(ok not 100% this expression, he was more happy looking) and then he smiled beautifully~

Suddenly he sees something unusual and wiped his eyes to check that he wasn't seeing things. Sparkles started coming out from the drawing, he then smiled again Then Shoutan appeared on stage in that white outfit!!!

“Please don’t be afraid, one day surely it will get brighter~” Shoutan: HEY! Fans: HEY! HEY! HEY! If anyone has seen his performance in T-SPOOK, the way he performed was about the same ^^ The dress part of his outfit flowed really beautifully

I really, reeeeeeally love this song! Most of us chanted along to the “Wow wow wow” parts

Zessei STARGATE

There weren't many people who did the short choreography for both lives :(( But we all chanted "3, 2, 1 LET'S DIVE!!!!" really loud and clear!

Shoutan welcomed us and he looked round happily seeing how his live was full ^^

He said that the theme of this live is to make everyone's dreams come true~ He said that they've asked for fans to send in postcards with their dreams handwritten/drawn on it. Shoutan: Who has sent one in?! Fans: YAYY!! I also cheered since I sent one!

He said even in the video he was painting his dreams, like the outfits, and magic was casted making it come true~

As usual we asked him to spin XD Shoutan: "I was prepared for this lol" He spinned slowly to show us the beauty of his outfit

He said he wanted to be a robot when he was young which inspired this costume Ai-chan? lol, plus the outfit reminds me of his 5th Stage outfit but even more elegant and over the top. It was so beautiful, he suited it SO well.

Every now and then he went back to drink water XD Fans: OMIZU OISHII??! (Is the water nice)

Fans: SHOUTANN!!! Shoutan: Hai~ Shoutan desu~~

Fans: OMIZU OISHII??! Shoutan: Omizu desuka? (The water?) I'll~ leave it up to your imagination~ XD

After thinking, I realised we never got him to spin in Tokyo...

Innocent

I’m always amazed when Shoutan sings this live. Because he properly hits the “Get away!!” notes and doesn’t sing them softly.

UNLIMITED

Just before the song started he took off the dress part of his outfit! So kakkoi!! It really does look like a battle plug suit XD I wasn’t sure whether to mention this or not. Shoutan stood in the middle of his dancers, as the music started, a ball from the stairs rolled down towards Shoutan. Shoutan didn’t see since it was behind him. A dancer noticed it and went to roll it away behind them straight away, then got right back into the dance, preventing an accident. I couldn’t see who he was from where I was sitting. I want to thank him for his fast reflexes and for making the performance run smoothly! The ball is really big, the size of his palm, it also looked heavy.

Shoutan's dancing gets even better and better by each live! His dancing was so slick and smooth!

Video

Painter Shoutan went to sit down, rocking his body side to side, kicking his legs back and forth, he was super adorable here! He wasn't sure what to draw, then he looked out the window and decided to draw the beach (Smile Mermaid????)

He drew a tail near the shore MARINASAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He went to get a pot of water for going over the watercolour on the drawing. He looked at the little owl ornament sitting on his desk, smiles cutely and bopped its nose with his brush XD

He painted over the drawing and then focused on the tail.

Then the waves of the painting started to move. Shoutan who was amazed by it, smiles~

Endless Song!!!

Shoutan wore a outfit what was a mix between Marina-sama and Kaguya He wore long black hair extensions which again suits both Marina and Kaguya He had 2 blue feather rings on his right hand

He appeared at the top stage The shape of the Japanese style trousers made it look like Marina's tail He did hand movements (spin/twist) like he did in Smile Mermaid

He's so beautiful!!!!

Shoutan appeared floating above stage!!!!

He's so elegant He started to float forward and then I looked up and noticed the extension goes all the way to the bottom of the stage! 😳 He- he- he's going to come all the way over?!?! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

He slowly made his way to the end and was lowered down

During the instrumental part he waved to everyone really elegantly *MARINA-SAMAAAAA!!*

Near the end of the song he was lifted up again and was floated back to the top end of the stage and landed there.

There was a long silence before the next song

*??? Is Shoutan ok?* Everyone else was also whispering to each other

He's taking too long before Ai No Sasamaki Goto (compared to Osaka) I can hear faint noises coming from his mic.

*looks through my binoculars*

I think he's stuck or something!? >< Since it was dark I couldn't see clearly, but I seen his silhouette and he was struggling fixing something >< *me whispering* "Ganbare! Ganbare! Shoutan ganbare!"

Shoutan speaking calmly and softly: Minna-san

He said something else which I've forgot >< And then the lights came on

Shoutan: I always ask for costumes to be long, and you can't turn round with long costumes. *looks at his back* Mawaranain desu yo ne. (You really can't turn round in this)

Ai No Sasameki Goto

He stayed at top stage and he sang in a dome(see photo above), the effects were so beautiful, the dome rotated to open up. I was really, really happy to hear this since it's one song which I really love and was a little disappointed when he never sang it at Budokan. During the instrumental part he waved to all of us really elegantly

Sora Wa Toumeina Chika

Shoutan was still at the top and he walked down during the first verse of the song.

Talk

He said that he showed us umi no sekai (sea world) again~ He was really formal and elegant with his words when he started to talk XD Lol he said even his way of speaking has changed with his outfit XD He mentioned about his outfit and talked about the extensions, he said he also got to design the outfits this time again

We asked him to spin, as usual XD He slowly spinned round and stopped to show us the details of the back✨ He said he selfishly wanted a train for the outfit (for Marina) ii yo Shoutan!! It's beautiful! ^^

There was a slight pause again before the talk.

Shoutan: I'll be honest with everyone. We are having some technical difficulties just now, I'm really sorry.

Shoutan: During my second live, there was 2 performances, afternoon and night performances. And during the afternoon performance we had technical trouble too, so I ended up singing Tenshi No Inori in acapella.

Shoutan: Ah, chotto matte... (Wait a second) *bends down to the floor to pick something up*

Shoutan: ...re's a... *holds mic properly* There's a ladybug here

*The camera zooms in* He used his two index fingers to pick it up. He was trying so hard! But it kept falling because he had no nails!

After so long, Shoutan gave up and swept it away with his hand instead!!!

He was trying to save it at first but looks like he may have ended up killing it instead 😂😂😂 Poor ladybug

Shoutan got up and he talked a bit more about his outfit

He walked round in a huge circle so that he could turn round without getting tangled in his train.

It looked so funny and we all laughed XD

Shoutan: Nani waratteru no? (What are you laughing about?)

Shoutan: So in December last year I starred in a Stage Play, a story about a Mermaid Princess Shoutan: Aoi Shouta wa otoko de wasurenai yo ne (You guys haven't forgotten that Aoi Shouta is a guy right?)

Shoutan: There were some who've said/thought, "ah, that's right, Aoi Shouta is a guy" Shoutan: Yes, Aoi Shouta is a guy 😂😂😂

Shoutan: Ja otoko rashiku utaimasu (Then, I'll sing like a man~)

Murasaki

Shoutan: Mairimasu!! “Hito yo~ hito yo ni hitomi goro~” He never did Murasaki dance again this time either, the end of the song was the same a the MV where he twirled his hands

We all changed colour from red, blue to purple well✨

I seen the wire coming down and the fabric behind and under him *is he going to fly again and like Budokan?!?!*

Turns out it was just to raise all the fabric, but it was truly beautiful! *__*

Ai Uta

He held his mic like he did in Budokan again while singing

He also went down to perform on the extended stage, at the last chorus, he laid down in the middle of the circle that his dancers made. The camera shot a aerial view and the effects along with the dance were amazing! If I seen correctly, that part of the stage spinned him round

Dancers and band members intro In the video, Painter Shoutan wrote each dancers’ name on the screen and introduced them one by one as they did a short solo performance It was the same for band members

RUN!! RUN!!

He wore a purple hoodie with checkered shorts and orange trainers. His hoodie had 29 on it for his age XD Pompoms were attached to his back it looked so cute like a tail XD He then took them and danced with them Half way/three quarters through the song he threw the pompoms away and took a huge prism flag (it was taller than him), he spinned, threw it up and caught it when it came back down! So amazing!!! Seeing him perform this live made me love this song even more!

START!!

He sounded even cuter in the way he sang this! And he looked so adorable waving the flag around in his outfit! We chanted “Let’s START!!” in the chorus. The flag looked really heavy though and you can hear him getting a bit tired from time to time ><

Again we asked Shoutan to spin XD He jumped and spinned to show his outfit XD

He spinned and then made a peace sign XD

So there's 29 on this outfit Yep, I'm 29 until August this year! He talked about Hajime (keyboard player) lol his hair is still amazing as ever XD Shoutan: I'm going to be 30 soon~

So there's a number written on my outfit, what is this "29"?? Fans: Shoutan's age!! Shoutan: This number, is my age until August 11th this year!! XD I'll be even more otona- otoko like!! (Lol otona is adult but he wanted to say be more manly otoko 😂)

Shoutan: Daisuke na minna san he(To everyone who I love)

Shoutan: Douko ikouka? Fan: Nani tabeyouka? Shoutan: Koko ga ee na? Fans: Kore ga ee na~

The lyrics is "ii na" but he changed it to "ee" because that's Kansai dialect!! So cute! ^^

Shoutan: Mada neteru no?  Fans: Sakki okita toko Shoutan: Chikoku suruyo?  Fans: Heiki dayo ^^

Usually we only sing the second verse with him! I was so happy to sing the first and second verse too!

He gave us a chuu~ at the end ^^

He turned around after he finished singing and stayed still for a while Touch To Take Trico?? And then I seen a staff handing him the flag Yes it is!

I managed to get my glad ready in good time and so did everyone else “Lalalala lalalala lalala~” Shoutan: Oh you all managed to properly get ready!

*music starts* Already had my flag ready~ Shoutan: "Jyaa!! I'm going to sing close to every one!!!" Ehh what?!?! 😳 He runs to the right side of the stage and gets on a cart!!!!!!!!!!

He sang and waved to everyone in all directions while slowly going round! Wait, wait, wait! Is he? Is he going to come here too?!? >___< *thinking back to 5th Stage, because Saitama Arena is too big, you can't make it round the arena in one song* he's going to come here!! 😭 I think he looked over to my direction when he was at the bottom right of the stadium 😭😭😭 When he made his way over to my side he was so close!!!

He looked like he was about to fall at one point!! *Shoutan be careful!!!* O__________________________O

He travelled on !! *REMEMBERS CHIHARU IS SLIGHTLY FURTHER UP!!!*

OMG! CHIHARU HAD HIS LIGHT ON YELLOW TOO AND HE WAS WAVING AT SHOUTAN LIKE MAD!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Chiharu: "YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!" *Waves frantically* 😂😂😂Chiharu the best 👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Shoutan being professional as he is, never seemed to react, I don't even know if he looked at Chiharu or made eye contact since he had his back towards me

Oh yeah, I looked over to Chiharu every now and then from the start of the live, and he was actually pretty chill throughout the whole live and didn’t wave his light stick much lol. Guess he is sitting at the special section after all, he’d attract too much attention with no one else waving their lights XD

At the end they extend the music and Shoutan got us all the song the “lalala” parts a few times ^^

Painter shoutan couldn't think of what to draw and was pretty down 😢 He starts working out doing stretches, sit ups, then he tried weight lifting but couldn't do it, it was so cute 😂

Then he finally came up with an idea and started drawing and painting the outfit He had a big satisfied smile He was drawing a prince outfit

Shoutan goes to sleep. Wakes up and sees the sparkles coming from Budokan prince outfit and sparkles from the drawing mixing together The magic sparkles gathers on Shoutan Once again, he showed a really beautiful smile

The stage was dark and he appeared at the top of the stage in that Prince outfit.

We all cheer and then it was silent while he made his move, slowly but coolly. He walked to the right side of the stairs. He sat at the top of the stairs

He walked a bit further down before sitting

Kimi No Kotoba Ballad ver

The music starts Shoutan slightly missed the start of the song because he walked further than he was supposed to 💦*me whispering ganbare!* He forgot some of the lyrics near the start *ganbare Shoutan!!* but he picked himself back up

The performance was so beautiful and I was so touched by it once again

Himitsu No Kuchidzuke

As usual, fanchanting to this was so amazing and fun!!!

*Saying this fast*"Fukaku... "karemete ageru?" He said ageru in a higher register sounding like a question

He gave us 3 kisses instead of the usual 2! And we got to hear them loud and clear 💕

He said the lines more aggressively than usual, he was too kakkoi!!! 。・゜・(ノД`)・゜・。

If I remember correctly he came to the bottom of the stage for parts of song!

Couldn't quit hear his kisses here, the same happened in Budokan

And the ending instead of a kiss, he held his index finger to his lips (like shhhh) >///<

Now, chanting to this was also amazing!!!!! We were all so hyped up! Shoutan was extra kakkoi, and aggressive as he said in his blog ✨ He performed part of the song at the bottom of the stage.

Shoutan: *sighs* Boku mo ningen datte, tsukareru toki mo aru (I'm also human, there are times where I'll also get tired)

*Ganbatte! Otsukare!* >__< rest if you must!!

Shoutan: I always will be/want to be everyone's Prince (can't remember which one he said)

The guys were amazing and that's when I noticed there was a guy sitting not too far from me. His cheering was amazing XD

Shoutan talked about the band members Shoutan: Everyone loves curry and only eats curry We usually have lunch box meals prepared, even today the meal they had was curry.

Shoutan to Taka-nii (drummer): What did you think of the fans? Taka-nii: Yappari dansei no koe ha sugokatta (The guys’ voices were amazing after all XD)

Shoutan spoke to Masu papa calling him papa as usual XD Masu papa: Papa wo yamete (stop it with the papa) 😂 And we all shouted papa XD He talked about Shoutan's talents again and also mentioning how Shoutan had 4 outfits

Shoutan: Even years ago I wouldn't think I'd be here like this like this, it’s really thanks to everyone. We all cheered and thanked Shoutan too Shoutan: No, I mean, without everyone I wouldn’t have been able to hold a live! You can’t hold a live with no one attending!!

He said he won't let go of us

He said that time really flew by and its time for the last song :(

The dance!!!!! It was SOOOO kakkoi! and then it went cute and girly during “Everybody go~ Everybody now~” parts!! Choreography during instrumental part: he walked from left to right in line with the dancers, each dancer stopped one by one as Shoutan walked on.

Shoutan: I said before that the time will fly by and the time has really gone by, it's nearly the end

He performed it the same as his MV and it was perfect!!

Encore

We chanted: Shoutan! Shoutan! It felt really long and it was tiring, but 3/4 through it I decided to cheer even harder!! The girl to my left cheered from time to time, but when she did she was loud and clear (have more confidence and don't be afraid to cheer for Shoutan!!!)

Not many people around me cheered, but even when it went quiet where I was, I never stopped once (apart from when I kinda choked a bit lol). It felt long but not as long as Osaka.

SHOT A LOVE

Shoutan came back! And of course in the Live Tshirt! He wore the same bottoms and boots as his Prince outfit And... WHAT IS THAT ON HIS HEAD?! XD He wore an Optopus hat, he looked SO cute!!

Everyone's postcards showed on screen! They’re all so cute! 90% of them drew illustrations and wrote a message. My Japanese friend’s one was shown! ^^ I didn’t see mines appear, maybe in Tokyo!

I can hear Shoutan but where is he???? HE’S ON THE CART AGAIN BUT THIS TIME BETWEEN 1ST & 2ND FLOOR!!! So high up! The cart has so many of our postcards stuck on it!! Not many people did short choreography, but we all chanted “SHOW TIME!”

Half way through SHOT A LOVE, TRUE HEARTS started! Towel out!!

Summer Dreamin’

The song switched to Summer Dreamin’!

There's also a short dance to Summer Dreamin which @moirica taught me before hand (thank you!) and I did noticed quite a number of people knew it as well which was good!

Back to SHOT A LOVE!

As usual, he ran round stage really cutely during the instrumental part ^^ I didn’t see my postcard here either, but I may have missed it as I was looking back and forth between Shoutan and the screen ^^;;

I can’t remember which song the confetti bursted and fell down. I tried really hard (1. because I promised some friends that I would try to catch one 2. because I never got any from Budokan and I wanted to get Prism’s for the memory) but I managed to catch ONE strip!!!

@kuroitsukinohime I’ve been so busy that I can’t even remember if I told you, but I got us one!!! I’ve already split it all between all my friends and don’t have any left ^^;;

He said he heard us calling Shoutan Shoutan and thanked us

He said it’s his first time performing a live in Osaka and he's really happy and glad.

About his hat, he said he went looking for something with Osaka in mind, he found the big one first, then he found the smaller one and decided he had to put them both together (on top of each other) XD At first he said takoyaki (it's a food) and then he corrected himself and said he meant tako (octopus) instead 😂 He said he wanted to sing close to everyone so he road a cart, and even asked to be on the 2nd floor, the staff helped moved him along. He said everyone’s dreams (postcards) was stuck on the cart and the ones that couldn’t fit in got shown on the screen.

Shoutan: It's my first time performing a one man live in Osaka, and to be able to participate in this theatre. Shoutan: Let's take a photo!

At first he said to do a peace sign Then him and the staff got into position and he turned round again, and asked us, we said we wanted to make an "S" instead for Shouta ^^

So we went with that again ^^ Cameraman: Hai! 3, 2, 1, cheese~ *Silence~* We took about 3 photos or so and it was the same each time 😂😂😂

That’s the Octopus hat lol He said that last year he got to perform in Anime Kouhaku Utagassen, and it was in Yoyogi too, he thought it'll be nice if he could hold his own live there too one day~ And he's here!!

Shoutan: Then to celebrate/for the memories! (I can't remember which one he said) let's take a photo together!! I don't want do be alone so let's take one with the dancers and band too! As usual, let's make an "S"!!

They got into position Shoutan: Ah, a bit further back?? *moves back more*

Shoutan: Make sure your right hand is on top! If it's left we won't know lol Shoutan: Ok 3, 2, 1~ *shoots*

I started tearing up during the instrumental part after the second chorus He sang "Minna ga ireba" just like he did in Budokan instead of "Kimi ga ireba" ^^ The music to Melodia played in the background and Shoutan introduced all the members once again. He lined up in the middle of them, hand in hand *Without a mic*Shoutan: TRULY, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TODAY!!!!

His voice cracked so much because he was shouting so hard! Poor Shoutan!! Some of us laughed. Shoutan waved and said thank you to all of us, he went to every side and every direction, thank you Shoutan!

He blew us all a kiss before he left for good. Once the live ended they played the instrumental of flower.

This Live lasted just under 3 hours (shorter than Budokan). I’m not sure how long Tokyo Live lasted as I never kept a tab on times.

Some things I’ve forgotten when it happened

Shoutan was meant to say he changed outfit, but he made a mistake and said something else which sounded similar and it was so cute!

Instead of getting each floor to cheer, Shoutan got: everyone, girls and guys. Again the guys’ voices were amazing, and again there was one guy really close to me XD Some guys on the 1st and 2nd floor on my left cheered really hard at times and they REEEALLY love Shoutan 😂

Thoughts

It felt SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO short!! Both times as well! As soon as he said it was the last song after S I couldn’t believe it!! Both lives were amazing, but I wasn’t quite feeling it in Osaka for some reason? I couldn’t remember much very well either :/ I was able to enjoy Tokyo Live a lot more and felt more emotional (which is normal for me) Poor Shoutan though, there was so much trouble at Tokyo!! But things like that makes it more fun and interesting! Fav performances: DDD Endless Song Ai No Sasameki Goto Murasaki RUN!! RUN!! Zutto... S Checkmate flower I was disappointed that he never sang Brilliant Moon (super grateful he sang it at Budokan!) and Why, pessimistic? It would have been the perfect set with Checkmate and flower!! But I guess 3 dance songs in a row would be too much ^^;;

Fav parts of the live? It’s the same no matter what event it is. It’s to be able to see Shoutan’s smile. I always look forward to that and he gave me another happy day to remember ^^ I would still say that I love Budokan Live the most. Prism was amazing but that happiness I felt at Budokan cannot be replaced. Every single moment was precious and I received so much when I expected nothing. Even when I received Shoutan’s sign at Hatsukoi Monster Event, I was extremely happy of course, but Budokan is still the happiest day of my life.

So I’ve changed my style a bit and tried to make it more report-like than my usual personal ones. I skipped out way more of my reactions and thoughts compared to my Budokan report. I skipped out about buying goods and things in between. Haven’t included much photos of my own.

gundam ibo rewatch for the orgamika, shinoyama, mcgae

at first i was gonna make an orgamika manifesto (a why ship orgamika?, type of thing) so i rewatched ibo, but then it devolved to just me flailing about and compiling all the orgamika per episode, then the tracing of how/when did mika/orga’s goals changed, then all the shinoyama, then mcgae, then galigali...

but i’m posting anyway, so i don’t forget to finish it eventually lol

this is part one, bec i’m only up to s1e19 as of now:

s1e1 - 1st scene is when mika, after killing someone, presumably for money based on orga's orders, asks what he needs to do next // next scene is mika waking orga up w/a smile, SMILING MIKAAAA // shino tries to discuss girls w/Mika, only to be shut down. also, they explicitly say that mika's not interested in girls // mika pinches eugene's ears off when eugene fights w/orga // orga talks w/ossan & tells him that he can't be seen as uncool, while ossan correctly guesses/adds "by mikazuki...?" - it's correct because orga smiles lol // during the fight, mika reacts when orga finally takes command // mika's dynamic entry has been timed / coordinated by orga // first mention of the "we'll go to somewhere not here, to someplace where we truly belong"

s1e2 mika learns that piloting barbatos can fry his brain, and he says it's ok bec he doesn't use it anyway // during their initial strategy meeting as to how to betray CGS, orga says that he forgot to call mika (is he assuming mika's already tailing him?!), tho he tells them that if mika is against his plan, then they won't push through. shino & eugene are confused, tho orga says that mika won't go against it anyway, because if orga shows his serious, mika will surely respond to him // when mika sees orga beaten up, he LAUGHS and calls orga an "iro otoko" pffft // mika also smiles when he quotes orga re: living instead of dwelling over comrades' deaths // when orga tells mika that there's a job he'd like him to do, mika agrees before orga's finished, taking the gun // when orga teases him that he doesn't even get the specs of the request, mika says he'll listen, but he'll do whatever it is anyway, if orga's already decided on it & orga thanks him for that //

s1e3 pretty domestic scene of orga & mika hanging out in the engine room, while mika eats his favorite; he offers one to orga, tho orga declines --- and they're apparently chilling just before they plan on killing off the CGS higher ups // mika acts as the bodyguard during their coup // when crank appears, orga simply calls out to mika and asks if he "can do it" while mika answers "sure", and everyone's confused, so orga clarifies that he asked mika to kill crank // mika tires of the discussion w/crank and just tells him that orga told him to kill him // mika smiles again when he says that 'tekkadan' (a name that orga decided for their new group w/o any input from others whatsoever, to eugene's annoyance) is a nice name

s1e4 mika shows disinterest in the talk about the future

s1e5 when atra asks them in public to be hired as the cook, mika doesn't react - orga has to prompt him (so i guess orga, like everyone, KNOWS that atra likes mika, while mika's more or less oblivious // also as a sidebit, yamagi asks shino if he likes girls (not if he likes girls *only*, mind) and shino says sure lol! //

s1e6 orga watching over mika & takaki & co learn how to write // and mika ofc reacting to orga's presence // orga & biscuit's convo about orga being so risky - to which orga replies that he feels that mika's eyes are always watching him & asking him as to what to do next & what kind of WAKUWAKU thing he's gonna do // and that he always wants to be the best and coolest in front of mika (cue biscuit's unimpressed look lol) // and we learn that mika was looking for orga // and then mika says that he prioritizes reading/writing so he can help w/mobile suit maintenance AND THEN reading books about farming // cute banter about being tired // orga says that while earth is far, they'll keep on moving forward AND THAT THEY'VE FOUND THEIR PLACE // mika says that orga's decided on it already // orga says that they'll make mika's dream come true //

s1e7 mika being so calculating lol // mika's watching orga as to how he'd react to naze & orga's watching mika back before he decides to do the crazy thing // when naze generously offers to take on tekkadan under his wing and have them work (separately), mika says that he doesn't want everyone to be separated - it's all orga needs to turn down the very reasonable offer // (also omg that shinoyama moment ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh)

s1e8 mika was... down? after not winning against lafter, but he does cheer up once he hears about orga's raid being successful, so // and mika does consider himself not doing a job well done, he's mopey on top of barbatos even when orga praises him // when orga tries to dissuade him from that thinking, mika still pushes on with the "i need to do better", orga relents and says that "he needs to be better too" // mika reveals that the reason he tries so hard is because he doesn't want orga to have a reason to ditch him - though orga says that there's no such thing as ditching when it comes to family (orga does get embarassed as he says this tho lol)

s1e9 during kudelia's moment of (in)decision re: her half-metal/mars independence movement, mika tells her that she HAS to decide, because her entire future will depend on her decision. this is a parallel to his decision to follow whatever orga decides on (he even says that this is a moment like the time he first killed someone - implied to be that one scene they keep on flashing back on). something noteworthy here is that mika says that it's a decision that must come from the person itself (which should shoot down any 'orga led mika to being his puppet' theories) // orga just looks on worriedly at orga getting carried away at the treats and at drinking // and then mika ends up just rubbing orga's back after he (presumably) throws up // and the way mika jolts after merribit intrudes lol and his reaction as merribit goes away // also, the translation is kinder - orga literally calls the handkerchief STINKING (not just smelling) like a woman // mika just stares at the drunk orga and says that it's the first time he's seen orga like this // but then mika SMILES when orga babbles that the reason he's so HAPPY is because he finally made a family for tekkadan // mika taking care of the drunk orga again - he's so worried about orga catching a cold, he even drapes his jacket on him; such a cute "taku" there too! // when mika and biscuit talk, mika asks if it's okay that he DIDN'T OPPOSE with the decision (that he didn't make, and not up to him to make) without asking orga // though the 99% of the time they were talking mika was looking at the sleeping orga and not biscuit, how rude // "thanks to orga's guts, we can continue to dream" // (also yamagi sulking after shino's night out lol and yamagi sulking even more when shino appears and is all sexed up) // mika, i caught that stare at orga's clothes // and mika being happy at sharing a kanji with orga;;;; - and thanks naze, for unsubtly pointing out that the kanji (that mika likes!) mika and orga's names share means "oneself" // naze foreshadows that orga should not lose this "self" in his character (so if he loses it, it's still w/mika, and vice-versa...) // after the ceremony, mika calls orga cool lol and orga apologizes for worrying mika;;;; and mika smiles again at orga

s1e10 ossan teases mika about being sad as he's left behind, but mika just admits it lol // and the conversation between shino/eugene/orga... where orga says that he doesn't care for women (women are just fucking betsu ni for him lol), then as they squabble, orga says that he's fine w/the family he has with tekkadan

s1e11 not a lot of orgamika, as the episode focused mostly on akihiro's plot & the gaelio/mcgillis in the middle

s1e12 shino being a bro to akihiro (and mika being a badass by saying outright that he'll try to go easy on his opponent, but he'd kill them if he's in trouble)

s1e13 mika continuing not to mince words to shino // mika looking so unimpressed w/the funeral rites & he doesn't cry when everyone's crying // shino finding yamagi to thank him about the funeral flowers & then yamagi refusing shino's request to make the fireworks again when he dies (though he said it in such a tsundere way tho, just admit that you hate the idea of shino dying already) // also, mika just kisses kudelia after he says that she looks cute after trying to comfort him (hc that he does it so cleanly because he's practiced in doing that lol)

s1e14 mika just goes on as normal after that lol, poor kudelia's so confused // kudelia's side-eyeing mika, but mika's just staring ahead/at orga

s1e15 during the Dolt coup/kidnapping fiasco, orga first checks in on mika's condition instead of y'know, they're client, kudelia // mika being so overprotective of atra and biscuit (mostly atra bec she's the one who's tortured) // also, orga's dynamic entry doesn't surprise mika at all despite hte lack of planning, but biscuit's all surprised

s1e16 not much gay haha;;

s1e17 when they decide what to do re: escaping to the elevators, orga asks mika for the decision, which mika cycles back to "i'll do what you decide, but seeing them getting beaten isn't interesting" // when shino launches, yamagi gives him a video call (as opposed to orga previously just giving him a voice call) and tells him to take care, and shino replies/refers to the funeral flowers again and says that yamagi will not need to make those for him this time // also, when mika recognizes gaelio's voice, he just goes, "you're chocoman's..." lol // also, GALI GALI

s1e18 dat gaelio/ein moment - gaelio proving that he's BEST MAN //

s1e19 such pure gali gali omg // also SHINO trying to console eugene saying that if eugene fails, they'll just think it's good ol' stupid eugene and won't blame him for sending them to their deaths lol // also eugene character dev't!!! // tho shino just laughs at eugene's akogare for orga lol // also, gaelio reminiscing about the past & how carta fell in love at first sight for mcgillis // "the place they truly belong?" "what kind is that?" // amazing + plenty of food + beds, but orga tells him that they won't know what it is untilt hey see it // if i follow you, orga, i'll see lots of things i never have //

FALL 2018 ANIME - FRIDAY

Dakaretai Otoko 1-i ni Odosarete Imasu. - Oh hey, it’s a BL show. I can’t remember the last time I watched a legitimate BL anime.

I actually like the protag, but I don’t like the love interest, which is pretty disappointing... And it sort of rushed into the sexytime stuff. There were multiple kisses in this first episode alone, and even one of those fade-to-next-morning sex scenes. Isn’t that a little fast paced? At least the guys have nipples in this one.

Right, got a bit sidetracked there. The main characters are actors, one of whom is a veteran and one of whom is new to the scene. It’s pretty standard fare as far as BL plots go. I can’t tell if there’s going to be a broader cast, but I would sure hope so, because the chemistry between the main pair isn’t so entertaining that it could carry the show alone. Oh, or maybe this will go on to be about different characters in different circumstances, like an anthology?

The lead is a fun character, but I’m not sure there’s a lot else here for me. Maybe if some other cute guys show up I could be roped back into this one, but for now it’s a No.

Gakuen Basara - It’s an anime taking the characters from Sengoku Basara and putting them in high school. I didn’t get a lot out of this one, because I’ve never played a single Sengoku Basara game.

The animation is okay, but has a sort of drab, unappealing color scheme that’s tough to explain. The characters look all right though, as I had to go look people up and so ended up comparing them to their in-game counterparts.

I stopped watching at the commercial break because it just wasn’t funny or entertaining to me. Maybe if you really love the games, there could be something to this one, but for me it’s definitely No.

Irozuku Sekai no Ashita kara - The premise for this anime is practically bludgeoned over your head in one of the least elegant opening scenes I’ve ever watched. The lead girl meets her grandma to watch some fireworks, and the grandma basically says, “I’m going to send you back in time.” Why? And the girl doesn’t even get a choice; she sounds like she’s hearing about this for the first time. Seems kind of cruel, don’t you think?

But the art is very pretty, and the atmosphere is soft. The protagonist is a bore, but they introduced some other characters who could prove to be fun enough to make up for her. I guess magic is real, so there’s that, and the lead girl can’t see color, except for in drawings done by this one guy we barely got to meet. Some whimsical stuff going on here.

For a show that looks high budget as this, I desperately hope it provides more story. This episode, quite literally, raised more questions than it gave answers. I am actually a bit curious though. I think it’s a solid Maybe.

Hinomaru Sumo - I’m really surprised... but this one was very good!

It’s a shounen anime about sumo. I can’t tell if sumo is really something very popular or not, but this anime (like all good shounen) manages to make it look like the coolest shit in the world. Production quality is above-average, and the cast has unique designs. Voice acting really packed a punch too.

That said, I’m not sure I’m super invested in it. I think it’s good, but idk that I really care to watch it that much? Maybe I’ll come back to it if I get bored. A weird “I approve, but No.”

Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san - Uwah, I’m blown away. I think this is my favorite show I’ve watched so far this season!! I was not prepared for that.

A girl goes into the woods to meet a “living doll,” but she turns out to be a vampire. Also, she doesn’t live in the woods. They end up becoming friends, and then the protag basically strongarms her way into moving in with the vampire.

It’s a very silly premise, but the jokes landed one after another. I was laughing a lot! And I took a lot of screencaps, too. It reminded me of my halcyon days unabashedly anime blogging on this very blog.

I’m absolutely sold. This one’s my easiest and most enthusiastic Yes!

Uchi no Maid ga Uzasugiru - I like this one. Sorry. Yes.

Jokes aside, I took a break after Kyuuketsuki-san, so here seems the perfect interval to talk about this show, because I actually watched it last week.

It’s about a woman who used to serve in the military, but applies to work as a maid in her return to civilian life. The young girl in her care hates her, and doesn’t want a maid in the house, no matter what it takes. It’s the kind of plot that reminds me of a movie, but I haven’t been able to place which one. Huh.

I thought it was decently funny, and the production quality was high - the art in this show places it among the growing ranks of “best looking from the season.” I absolutely love the ending sequence! It might be my favorite of them all.

So why the “sorry?” Well, the maid is... I’ll use a euphemism here. If the maid was offered the opportunity to transform herself into a little girl à la Cagliostro from Granblue Fantasy, she would enthusiastically accept. Here’s hoping it stays far away from anything perverse.

I said already, but Yes... for now.

Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet - This was one of those shows where as soon as I started the episode, I wanted it to be over. Still, I tried to endure as much of it as I was able. Surprisingly, I watched the whole thing.

It’s really not that bad. The art looks nice, so you can tell they tried. But the plot totally lost me. It’s a very basic Romeo & Juliet set up: there’s two factions at a school of some kind and they hate each other. But the main man from one side and the leading lady from the other end up in a relationship, which they keep a secret.

The thing I don’t get, however, is why these two factions hate each other. They were seriously brawling - an entire student body of high schoolers beating the shit out of each other, over which dorm they live in, or something? And at the end of the first episode, the two protags duel with real swords! This doesn’t appear to be a full-on fantasy universe, so why is everyone fighting so much?

It’s not awful by any stretch, but I get the impression this is going to be one of those romances where every development is agonizing. I feel a little bad ragging on it so much, especially because the ending scene actually did make me smile. I simply don’t have it in me to watch stuff like this very often anymore. No.

Yagate Kimi ni Naru - Ohhh... it’s good. It’s really good.

Okay, well, as far as romances go, I don’t know that I would describe it as anything particularly ambitious or mold-breaking, but still. It’s just... one of those instances where they set the standard very high. It’s Quality™.

A girl starting her first year in high school is rused into joining the student council. She’s been putting off replying to a confession from a middle school friend because she can’t tell whether she actually wants to date him. But she meets one of her senpai, who shares her feelings exactly: “Up until now, when someone’s said they like me, it’s never made my heart flutter.”

The protag is so cute, I want everything to go well for her. Although I think she might have an ever-so-slightly high expectation of love (she seems heavily influenced by manga and popular songs), I also understand her desire to really feel it, and not simply go with the motions or be in a relationship “just because.” She’s a pretty relatable character, though I want to see what the rest of the cast ends up contributing.

The art is so pretty! I love everything about how the scenery and characters look. There were these novel first-person scenes used sparingly, and to great effect. Soft, pleasant bgm, too.

It’s such a comfy anime. Yes.

CONCLUSION - Yeesh... That was a lot. I’m happy though, because Friday has some seriously good shows lined up! I probably wouldn’t have checked out Kyuuketsuki-san or Yagate Kimi ni Naru, so I was missing out.

Going off of MAL though, my total is already at 10 shows. That’s almost too many, maybe... Depending on how many I truly end up with, I might actually make some cuts, lol.

About next week’s ep: Why is it a “Mad who Can Tell the Difference” (sic)? Shouldn’t it be a “maid” or something? Update: Translation of the preview (linked below) says it’s a man who can tell (understand) the difference (chigai no wakaru otoko), which makes more sense.

I think it was that you could predict a person’s personality by their sleeping position? Cho-chan seems to reflect that, as does Beethes.

Not sure if you can call Hasshie’s room a “room” or not.

I still think the avocado is such a non-sequitur it’s stupid, but…yeah, it was also great. It’s the “this is anime?” kind of great.

The next ep preview here says next time it’s Fur Elise under the guillotine…I actually look forward to that, since even though Fur Elise has tortured me to no end during my piano days, someone I know who’s barely educated in music has been trying to learn it so I’ve had to get my rusty piano skills out of the gutter for them.

(Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga ep 8)

The thing about Blue Exorcist is that it’s so serious, it ends up being not that bad when it gets to the “all talk, not much movement” parts. That’s because each piece of dialogue is a small step towards the bigger picture.

I’ve always been such a sucker for white haired guys, so Abend Qualm is definitely my type, LOL.

I always thought chocolate rice crackers was a weird choice. To see rice grains turned into chocolate-coated objects though…that I definitely question…

Wait. Is Nino’s father Abend or Qualm? They referred to the white haired man as Qualm, meaning Nino’s father is Abend, but since I don’t remember what the white haired man is called in the present day…yeah, I got confused. A lot. Update: Oh, that’s why. I think of Qualm as “that grey haired guy” and when I think of “that white haired guy” I think of Grossular. By the by, I read the TV Tropes page while trying to figure out who Qualm was and I LOLled so hard at “91 Cakes” plus the comments on bread.

How old is Nino? Dangit, he must be twice Jean’s age…Update: 25?! That makes him at least 10 years Jean’s senior!!!

When I can predict Nino did it for his father and not for Qualm, that’s when I start to drop the ratings a little bit. I dropped Divine Gate solely because the naming scheme of the protags was too obvious.

Smalt, Jaune d’or (?) and Mordore…well, I guess that was not what people meant when they said, “One does not simply walk into Mordore,” eh. By the way, doesn’t “jaune” mean “game in some language or other?

Revelations from this ep beggar the question: is the girl in the ED Schnee or Lotta?
