Second, genuine question (and out of curiosity): Why do you self reblog your posts often? People can see your posts on their dash, and even on the search thingy. The search thingy doesn't let people see your self-reblogs (just the original post). Even though I've kinda been on and off of Tumblr for years, I don't really get how it works, so I'm a bit confused as to why you and other bloggers self-reblog your/their own posts?

Thank you for polite question, I honestly don't know if I can help you a lot and if my answer will explain it as you expect. I also was on and off tumblr for a long time and often, but I can answer it based on my own experience on this becasue it was confusing to me too when I first met with self reblogging.

first of all self promotion isn't a bad thing and i'm staring to think some of people here see it as a crime

compared to old one nowday t/mblr is a mess, lot of people left this site and most of them were content creators (either artists or gifmakers) and back then it seemd more welcoming to editors? People would rb your stuff no matter your popularity becasue hey it is content from my fav series i wanna see more i wanna keep it on my blog and show it to others so there was no need for people to self reblog becasue it circulated around a lot on its own.

new people who join this app are raised on i/stagram t/itter and/or f/book where LIKES means everything, you show your support by liking posts THIS NOT APPLY TO TUMBLR AND NEVER DID [you can check this amazing post about rebloging]. As nice as it is to get likes on your post becasue it is like a pat on a head - it is only a pat, doesn't mean anything on a long run. Reblog = spreading. If people don't spread it we stay unnoticed and we tend to self reblog more.

another thing that changed is: people no longer scroll from top to the last post they saw before going to sleep, cos why would they? You wake up in the morning open app while eating breakfast or drinking coffee and you sroll past ten or twenty post or an equivalent of hour or two of your absence - you dont go deeper cos it would be a waste of time - again, I say USUALLY, some ppl still do this and it is ok either way - which leads us to main point of self/reblog:

DIFFERENCE in TIME ZONE not all of our followers live in the same time-zone, when I post something in my free time it doesn't mean others have it too, most of them are probably sleeping or in working place at that hour. We self reblog so people who were absent (and we think might be interested in - becasue why not? they follow us for a reason right?) can see it when they get back on here. By reblogging ourself multiple times, that puts the post back on the follower’s dash and hopefully gives them a chance to see it.

most of people follow ton of blogs (one of my friend I met here told me they follow over 1k blogs) imagine even half of these blogs posting regulary, a few things per hour, the dash is messy and crowded OUR EDITS TEND TO GET LOST IN IT. Most of people follow a lot of blogs and might miss our posts becaue their dashes are WAY more active than these who follow five or ten blogs.

t/mblr fandoms aren't welcoming to new creators in my experience, to get notes you need to be popular/have lot of followers but you can't have lot of them if your posts aren't spread/seen and so on and so on it go in circle (a lot of ppl also only reblog popular posts and avoid these with litte of notes - don't know why it is like this, maybe they think these posts are suspicious?) so with self reblog we also give some of these fake notes to make a post more appealing, i guess? this one is just speculation.

the search function you mentioned is very rarely used tbh people don't go to search for things daily, they usually only do this when they join new series/ship/etc to check if there is something. People usually stick to what they see on their dashes. AND most importantly this option doesn't work as it should. It is some type of algoritm that promote post that are alive/active - even if your post is relativy new it might not show in search becasue it died quickly (as if it wasn't interacted with for some time). With search option it is 50/50 your thing either show there or not. ALSO REMEMBER search option is a terrible promoted thingy that doesn't show you everything so you better stick to /tagged/ thing you can enter manually while on dash if you are using web t/mblr.

people no longer go straight to specific blogs to check if they missed something, they might do it for their besties (as they call it) but other than that DASH is all people see and focus on, so the more often content creators self/reblog the higher chance followrs will see it.

we are not paid for what we do and it come to everything: edits, gifs, arts, writing, video and META POST we are not paid for it and no matter how many people say notes are just numbers these numbers are our motivational payment, the less you get the less you create because you just don't feel the point of sharing your creations if it is not received well or at all.

when I started posting I used to post new content daily even twice a day, nowdays seeing most of my edits not being well recieved in fandom I lost motivation to the point I was thinking of quiting because it didn’t give me joy anymore and I'm still considering it.

I personally never felt bothered seeing self rebbloged post, I follow a bunch of content creators, some of them sr twice a day some each hour, some more or less often. It often helped me to see something I would missed becasue I wasn't here and personally it often give me joy to see the post I remember seeing that had 2 notes when I rb it and now it is 500 or more.

to anyone who read it and still think self reblog is a bother: do not tell people to stop self reblogging. If you genuinely have a problem with self reblogging, just unfollow or block the person who does it and don’t make a fuss over it!

Hello! @flootweed replying to the post from before. the long format was killing me. why does tumblr look like this...

I haven’t watched episode 8 yet...or have I? If it’s the most recent one. No.

Is the hornbill a bird? It probably is but I have a terrible memory and I’m dumb so. I skipped the last few weeks because I’m scawwed. How are you liking it? I did see someone say that the hornbill makes sense (without knowing what it is...at all) bc heart transplant patients only live like 5-15 years after but someone in those comments pointed out that he was so young when he got his and that’s pretty rare so he has a higher likelihood of survival. Frankly, this is the only way I will proceed. Since when did shows ever care about the heart transplant health? Never and it needs to stay that way!

sort of in the same vein re: taking it easy...we coudl all be more understanding too. to slow it down like you mentioned about not being privvy to fucking eveyrthing and saying anything on our mind. i saw this person talk about y2k which was a huge deal while happening bc it was the turn of the millenium (bruh were u even alive?) but this twitter user grew up in a super super SUPER religious household and was like why do ppl make jokes about Y2K it was insanely traumatizing? though my first instinct was confused ive tried hard to like look more before i judge especially thanks to a friend of mine. turns out that with the further reading the more we found out he was just really traumatized; it was very common in religious households to be afraid of 2000. so we could have come at him with no understanding and he could have thought that everyone had the same experience with that year that he did. his feelings sit precedent though but i think it was just very hard for him to fathom.

jk also theres just different personalities. you and i mesh more bc we have a lot of the same beliefs and are coming from the same place. that makes it easier to understand as well. i really try to remember that but some people are really weird so. again just...the perception of certain things even down to acting skills. but i also dont like.......believe this genre can really do anything at all. on one hand i want them to do it right bc it’s a piece of work so they should. be proud of it. cos most things arent advancing us bc representation and culturalism are a lie bla bla. it’s just that when the depictions are negative or not done well it adds to the problem as opposed to the things that are well done are fairly benign and can’t really pull us back (perf example is the black panther film. i woudl definitely not say it was transgressive as a literal work but visually it’s just stunning. and it’s sad that it’s stunning and surprising but still with basically an all black cast of mostly dark people abd like what it means in the zeitgeist yes. it’s also just a good movie. but it’s still imperialist prop and unfortunately and this is fucking pathetic to say it “opened eyes” in other countries where they hate black ppl and ignore their own racialized minorities HENNYWAYSSSS a better ex is moonlight except moonlight isnt mainstream and is indie tho...still thru a funnel of capital bc a24 but who cares bleed the fuckers dry is my motto. my point is moonlight is both a great work and doesnt bring any failures to the table and its existence helps in ways outside of art but they arent the defining things giving us material advancement sooooo i mean it’s complex (this is my conclusion to everything um guys it’s complex)

er i had one more point in conjunction to above. oh yea so i like dont need all these extra things to make it progressive. like people really want more women in the show and i am honestly like i really dont. i dont want them to actively do this. if they cant do it naturally then let someone else do it. i am not asking for more bc i dont want it from them. when something comes along i embrace it but i do not see why women should be represented when the genre RELIES on patriarchy. there is no complete satisfying existence for the women in these series. i dont want it. i dont ask people to show us~*~* or respect~* like fuck no the people who make it make it and hopefully more will make it in the future but i will not beg bc THEY DONT WANT TO DO IT SO WOULD FORCING IT MAKE IT BETTER? just fucking leave them out entirely. that’s the answer if theyre gonna make nasty female characters then those bitches can geaux. we have other plcaes to be. booked. and. a little bit of backstory: I basically live under a rock when it comes to pop culture and media. Not necessarily due to lack of interest, but I have the attention span of a pea, and getting invested in a tv show or movie always sounds like too much of a commitment for my tired brain. :/ (So if the celebrity became popular after, say, 2010, I probably haven’t seen anything they’re in, and pretty much solely know of their existence from my tumblr dashboard. This leads to a lot of surprises when I actually hear a face claim’s voice for the first time, months/years after I’ve been playing them)

1. your favorite face claims

I don’t think I have any! I usually wind up picking face claims after I’ve developed the character in my head somewhat, so finding an fc is mostly me searching through gif hunt tags and fc directories until I find something that matches what my brain has conjured up. Not even necessarily the physical appearance of a character, but their “essence” so to speak. Like I originally pictured Violet as a brunette, but when I saw a Katie Stevens gif hunt from her in Faking It, I was like, SOLD! She has the uh….it factor, ya know what I mean. The Violet Factor.

Though I generally tend to lean towards actors instead of models / musicians, just because you see them in one “look” for a long period of time, in (most of the time) decent lighting in a wide spectrum of emotions and expressions. Models tend to have a look in a commercial / photo shoot for a maximum of 0.2 seconds, so even if I find a model that would be perfect (cindy kimberly), I would only have approximately….two gifs at my disposal of her in that particular look. And one of the unique things about tumblr’s rping community is the use of gifs, so I like to make it count! I could go on a tangent about how much I strongly dislike the use of teeny tiny gif icons because they defeat the purpose of gifs, but that is for another day!

tl;dr: i like any fc who I think will suit my character well! Also fcs of characters that I’ve grown attached to in previous rps due to nostalgia, though they kind of become off-limits in my head writing-wise since I can’t see them as anyone else.

I couldn’t care less! I’m sure in a few more years (if Tumblr hasn’t kicked me off for being Old by then), I’ll be bitter and jaded and have a list, but for now I don’t think I really hate any fcs. Yeah, there have been a few unsavory characters in past rps who I wasn’t a fan of, but rpgs open and close all the time, and that fc is bound to get used again. It’s all about pulling your big girl pants up and moving on! Don’t hold it against someone just because of your own personal biases. You could really be missing out on a great rp friendship, ic or ooc!

Maybe just because the specific fc is kind of an afterthought for me, but I just don’t think it’s that big of a deal. If you don’t like ‘em, don’t use ‘em, but it’s none of your business what someone else does with their character. Also this isn’t the place for me to go on a rant about banned fc lists in rps, but I have some Thoughts on them and will gladly go off in DMs somewhere…but you probably already know what I’m going to say.

I’m not specifically dying to use a face claim, but I’d love to use the characters they’re attached to real soon! When I fuckin’ actually write something!! However, there are some ~dream fcs ~ that although would jive with the characters super well, just wouldn’t work out for practical or technical reasons (ex. gif-wise). Cindy Kimberly would be awesome for one of my archived characters (can a character be archived if you’ve never used them, just because the rp never got up off the ground?) but she only has one (1) facial expression, and that just wouldn’t do. Also, Francisco Lachowski would have been perfect for Nate if he didn’t only look like this in one (1) picture. But, alas, we cannot create gifs from images in our brains yet. That’ll be Tumblr in the year 3000. Stay tuned. (Dear god I hope this hellsite isn’t still around. Save us.)

I literally do not give a rat’s ass who your character looks like! Go wild! As long as it’s just an fc and not that uncomfortable trend of rpers playing celebrities as the actual celebrity, who cares!

Just me musing and looking back

Honestly looking back on last year and uhh how much I changed is really interesting. Fandom-wise I guess. AKA I am not r in a fandom... or at least i dont feel I am and I don’t identify as being in one.

Like. It’s kinda a two-edged sword tho? Bc like. I still write ff and write original works and it kinda sucks that my writing barely gets any notes/kudos/comments/whatever and I feel kinda forgotten or like no one cares.

But at the same time, it’s really freeing? I don’t have to worry about writing X amount of prompts or watching everything I say/do.

Tho, it is kinda funny I’ve gotten more anon hate now than when I was in fandom but. I also think that’s more me not giving a shit abt the opinions I post and less about anything else.

And though I feel forgotten and a bit discouraged when it comes to posting my writing, I feel so much happier with my writing in a lot of ways. I feel like I can write what I want again and that I can write for myself again, which is something I lost at the height of my work while in fandom. I have a lot more freedom with my original stories and I feel like. I’m moving forward and accomplishing things, not just stuck in the mud. I can freely tell people that hell yeah I’ve written a novel, without my brain hanging onto the but it’s fanfiction sorta thing.

I lost a lot of people I talked to and knew due to me changing blogs and distancing myself, but at the same time, I’m so under the radar I feel like I also lost a lot of people who hated me too. Though said people still make me paranoid, and always will unless they, you know, tell me they don’t hate me (which is impossible as I got them blocked lol)

But in the end? They are going their own way, I am going mine, I have them blocked, and I never gotta deal with those ugly people ever again. Plus, going on my own means, for the most part, I won’t be apart of any discourse.

Though, thinking back, I wasn’t really a discourse sorta person either. I never attracted it nor did I really get into a lot of discourse, which is pretty nice.

Honestly, I do sometimes miss fandom. I miss people reading my stuff, the anon asks, people telling me how much they liked my writing, and posting a lot and getting The Attention TM. I also miss interacting with people in general and some portions of the community.

But at the same time, I don’t miss feeling upset if something I did wasn’t as popular as someone else’s and the jealousy that came from that. Nor do I miss the pressure and the general toxicity from fandom either, the entitlement readers can have, and feeling like, as a person, a means to an end (AKA people recognizing me for just my fanfiction and not my writing in general)

But overall? I think leaving fandom at the time I did was the best thing I ever did, and I honestly can’t imagine myself if I had stayed in the bd fandom. I wouldn’t have made so many wonderful OCs and original stories and stuff.

At the same time, I kinda can’t completely knock the bd fandom nor anything of that sort. It’s how I met a lot of friends, such as Angel, (among others) and how I got back into writing after running out of steam for my first fic. It’s what led me to go back to writing original stories and taught me a lot about... internet courtesy and things of that sort.

Earlier last year, the few months after I left fandom, I felt raw, like an open wound. It hurt, I was bitter and angry, and I feel like I lost... everything. I am a very materialistic person, so deleting my old blog, erasing what I had built up for myself, stung. I actually did cry when I realized I had to delete my blog and leave fandom. I cried even more during the week I was moving things over to my new blog, and was numb and tired and miserable as I hit the delete button on my old blog.

But sitting here, with a new-ish blog, and a even a new URL to boot with a lovely Christmas!Gabriel as my avatar, I do think it was the best thing I could’ve done for myself in terms of mentally, emotionally, and for my future when it comes to writing.

I don’t feel as shackled by tumblr or online---it feels like a minor hobby or thing to pass the time, not this major thing in my life, and honestly? That’s perfect for me. I wouldn’t want anything else.

I called my insurance company yesterday to get a quote for a change of vehicle as I was planning to buy a new car. They said my monthly premium would still stay the same and the quote was only valid till end of the day which is fair enough. They said they give the quote on whatever the insurance rate is at the current time so if i was to call another day it could go up but it shouldn't go up that much. So I went to view the car yesterday evening and decided to buy the car. I called my insurance company today and they said it would cost me an extra 350 to get me insured on the car. So i asked them how could it go from nothing to 350 within a day. They come out with the quote is based on the daily rate of insurance and they cant do nothing about it. I wouldn't have mind if it went up by 100 or so but from nothing to 350 in one day is a big jump. Is there anything I can do?

A couple of weeks ago a lady ran a red light and hit my car. Her insurance company took a week to get me a rental and two weeks later finally go look at my car and determined a total loss. There were some dents from hail on the hood and trunk lid but every used car in Oklahoma has hail damage since we have had several storms over the past few years. He said that they would have paid $5900 for the car but because of the hail damage they will only pay $1250 which is ridiculous. I've done my research and the average cost of my car within 200 miles is $6000 and I have received one estimate on repairing all of the damage was $2000 yet he claims it will cost $7000. The dealership I bought the car from just sold a vehicle just like mine with hail damage for $5000. The engine and everything else on the car was perfect. When I told him all of my info he laughed at me and said oh by the way we are only paying for your rental till the 9th so you need to settle quickly, take it or leave it so I said I was calling a lawyer.
