I had to wait an extra day to post this due to timezone reasons XD and this post is also the reason why I didn’t say much in my Day 31 post as well, I tried to keep it a surprise.

I love seeing all of your works and various interpretations of the prompts as well. It made me look forward to seeing them the next day!

I designed this Yuma Month Thank You art based on all the prompts and elements everyone showed in their pieces. Sadly I couldn’t include all of the prompts due to the image being overly cluttered but I did squeeze in most of them.

replicating a style

i feel the need to first point out that no one should do this to quote unquote steal someone's artstyle. being able to emulate a specific style is a good trick to learn for jobs in which you have to do just that (animation, comics etc.) i personally love being as canon compliant when it comes to fanart so i go crazy:

studying the source material! in general with drawing, you think you know what something looks like but when you draw it out, it may look weird and off!! this is when you're gonna want to hoard a lot of screenshots from the source material to study/draw over/redraw based on them. as you're drawing, you may realize that "WOW okay so i didn't know that part was so angled and sharp, i thought it was a near perfect circle!" (me when i first drew mikey's head fr).

repetition!! don't avoid drawing simply because you're thinking you're not good enough yet. art is something you get good at with trial and error so you'll only ever get better if you draw, draw and draw!!!! not only do you learn more with each drawing, you'll also get more comfortable with the overall process :)

(gonna throw in a mystery number three which is not really tied to replicating styles BUT!!! doing anatomy studies is a good way to improve your solid drawing skills fast!!! im linking my pinterest folder that i use for anatomy studies every now and then below the line to help anyone get started!)

animation tips

i'm like, 90% self-taught so i may not know the correct terminology for everything... but you're definitely going to want to study the 12 principles of animation!! there are a LOT of youtube videos available on this particular subject!! once you have gone through each principle, you may want to try and do little animation practices with these in mind!

i think ROTTMNT really kickstarted my personal learning curve as i'm just SO ridiculously eager to learn anything and everything i possibly can, i mean i have never in my life been so excited to just learn! i heavily recommend following the rottmnt animators' online profiles and go through their galleries/portfolios to study their work! it's all so amazing...

tldr, STUDY the source material and REPEATEDLY draw/animate and take active notes on what you could improve on, still. you got this!!! >:]

some links that other people have kindly compiled with lotsa references/tutorials and tips. i recommend eyeballing through them and checking out anything that interests you! :]

was talking to my partner earlier about this but i made a good point (not to brag) so im putting it here . anyways :

the whole idea that someone is selfish if they expect their art to get attention is fucking baffling. how did we go from "reblog other people's art, it gives them motivation to keep drawing and make more art for people to enjoy!" to "if you ask for people to reblog your art, it's guilt tripping and emotional manipulation." how did we go from regularly interacting with every artist in a community, in a fandom, to the big artists reblogging posts from smaller artists and encouraging their followers to follow them, to... no one doing that anymore. to people saying it's selfish to want attention and reblogs on art that you hand crafted and spend hours to days to weeks to even months making. to saying that people who want their creations to be seen by people are "attention seeking", and shouldn't "expect anything from anyone".

and then when those artists stop creating due to a lack of motivation to continue, only then do people come out and say "oh i love your art!!!!!! dont leave!!!!!! i love seeing your art!!!!!!!". that is truly baffling to me

#like not even about being sick i just feel so off and terrible #everything is empty nothing matters why do i try #forcing myself to talk to people but it just makes me feel gross when i do #nothing makes me happy i dont have anything to look forward to #im not excited for halloween im just gonna have this sore throat and feel gross all day #i dont wanna watch anything or draw anything or do anything but i cant make myself focus on school #why am i even. here #ive gotten much too comfortable venting online but writing stuff out is the only way i can feel a little better #has the seasonal depression really already gotten me. it's not even november #i just need to get through the week.#like. i dont wanna talk to anyone ever again feel like m gonna burst into tears if i think about it #but i want um. i just want #someone to say they see me and care about me #i dont know thats so pathetic

Welcome back to tumblr! Hope you enjoyed your break

It was very stressful. Ended up failing the marking period for English, but not by as much as I was failing before. Could still pull up the overall grade by the end of the semester.

#started writing a fic a few days ago. been a while since ive done that.#so far felix is very out of character but he's only gonna be the focus for the first chapter. plus i might go back and rewrite him.#maybe i should wait until the new chapter comes out tho so it's relevant to updated canon #anyway echos started brainrotting about chris in a /pos way so yeah a lot of my break has been rethinking old analysis #started to notice that he's a lot more fun if i get in the mindset that he's not poorly written he's just literally isaac's antagonist #also my siblings have been hyperfixating on DC so i watched a batman series. i think they're very disappointed in me for choosing batwheels.#snowy best vehicle #. what else #oh ive been doodling a nightmare design #been liking the idea of him and dream not being skeletons but dont wanna draw/write them as their canon human designs #because (if i'm correct) they get those designs at some point later in the story. and i don't want to confuse the timeline like that.#so ive been working on concept sketches for a less human design for them. ive also noticed that them being humans in canon actually #makes a lot of sense because the other guardians don't really have any connection between their species and it can be assumed that #whatever they are exists in the universes/multiverse they're from. so it makes sense for the twins to be humans because the utmv has humans.#. but i also like how they couldn't be given the human forms at first because of the lack of holes.#so the design im working on has gill/stripe-looking vents for the energy to come out of.#also gonna try to add little fire wisps into the design because i love their true forms so much #anyway i dont think there's been more that ive done. other than schoolwork. and watching qsmp.#oh i started working on an animatic. but i do that all the time. it'll be a bigger occasion if i finish one lol.#think im gonna still keep interaction on tumblr to a smaller scale because i wanna keep getting stuff done
