I found random members hot throughout the years but no one caught my eye yknow? like I very much remember thinking SC looked super hot in the don’t wanna cry mv when he does the “when we see each other again” part. it’s bc I can only stan one group at a time lol. not saying I don’t like other groups but I can only keep up with one group at a time bc idk haha
my boy mingyu is too much for the heart 😔 also dk is such a package too like he can sing and act and dance and cook and he’s hilarious and beautiful and caring and sweet…le sighhhhh
gose; I have so many lol. the ones that makes me laugh the most are the nonsensical debate night, don’t lie, and of course insomnia zero. so those 3 are first place for me. however it makes me mad how JH always leaves early for insomnia zero lol bc I’m like I WANNA HEAR THE TEA and also someone spill more tea regarding him lol. second place…hmm I really liked the bungee jump episode and the ones that boo hosts like the ones with random games. the talent show one. bad clue 1 was awesome too. so many lol. honestly I love like 98% of gose😍
which gose eps do you like?! how did you stumble upon kpop?
ahhh i see. that makes complete sense to me. it’s hard to keep up with multiple groups and dedicate yourself to all of them equally or nearly equally. i’ve been a multi since… almost the beginning, and i find myself feeling overwhelmed a lot lol. but it’s also so much fun, and there’s always content to indulge in. i love coming back to music i haven’t listened to in a while and falling back in love with it. that happened to me recently with bts’ best of me.
what other groups have you been a fan of?
heart is getting all warm reading what you wrote about seokmin. exactly. he radiates comfort through his voice, his laugh, his smile, the way he loves so purely. the domesticity!! ajduduejqja i love him so much help 😭 my heart is going to burst
i’ll contain myself form spiraling over mingyu, but i have so many thoughts. they’ll come out eventually
debate night is so good! every episode you mentioned is a gem. certain moments from debate night, the talent show, and the bungee jump episode are on rotation in my head lol. they’ll pop back up again randomly, and the cycle begins again. 🤧 for all that jeonghan hasn’t said
my favorite gose episodes: kickball, the talent show, dive into ttt, ttt hyperrealism, seungkwan’s past life destiny (this was the first ep i watched and i was 😧 lol)
ohmygod little storytime. i was watching ashley ippolito on youtube, and i had basically rewatched the majority of her videos, but i never watched any of the bts ones. i decided to watch her rose bowl concert vlog, and i was doing alright until serendipity started. i was blown away by the song, the choreography, the stage, and i started sending clips to my friends lol. one person was like 🥴 this is not for me, and my dear friend addy @fitmydaydream was all over it. she actually discovered bts in 2017 (right? dna?) originally, but we started the journey again together. in january of 2020, i discovered euphoria, probably listened to it 10 times or so, and then moved on with my life. if i had searched a live performance i probably would’ve gotten hooked then, but now i thank park jimin for pulling me in. dove down the rabbit hole after that. i discovered got7 that same week too. now i’m feeling all happy and nostalgic. take me back. what a fun time 😭
how did you start listening to kpop?

So I got bored and decided to type out a list of the cartoons/tv shows I’ve watched, cause why not! I think this is all I’ve watched, or at least recent enough (I’m thinking like…. 2014/15 onward, when I actively started to watch more cartoons)
It’s kinda long, and I’m kinda rambley, so I’ll put it under a keep reading thing (if I can) so you don’t have to scroll through that if you don’t want to. Idk who will actually read this, but hey maybe it’s an idea of what kind of things I might reblog on here! I’m always taking any suggestions for shows to watch, I love learning about and watching more and more cartoons! So if there’s something I didn’t list as something I watched and you think of be interested, feel free to please recommend it! I may update this with a reblog or an edit or something at some point in the future, idk though. For now, its September 19, 2020, and here’s what I got for ya
This ended up way more rambley than I meant for it to be but I started writing it at maybe 12:30ish am and now its almost 2am when I’m getting ready to post it so oops 👀 I’m not really expecting anyone to read this but hey, it’s something! Read if you wanna know what shows and other stuff I watched lol idc
Cartoons I’ve watched in their entirety (or what’s all aired as of today 9/19/20):
(updated 12/2/20 as starting with ATLA)
Gravity Falls - watched since late 2014
Steven Universe (including the movie and Future) - watched since mid June 2015, right before the second stevenbomb/sworn to the sword (early season 2)
Over The Garden Wall - watched back around when it first came out, can’t remember exactly when but sometime in 2015
Star vs The Forces of Evil - watched the first 2 seasons as they aired, then stopped watching for a while and rewatched the whole show in June 2019
Hilda - watched for the first time in I think October 2018, rewatched in May quarantine
She-ra and the Princesses of Power - watched all 5 seasons about/not even a week after season 5 came out, idk why I waited so long to watch it
The Owl House - started watching it after the grom episode aired, idk why I waited so long to watch it but molly and noelle and everyone was screaming about grom on twitter, so of course I had to watch it then
Kipo and The Age of Wonderbeasts - watched it all in early August, right before I watched The Owl House
Infinity Train - watched the pilot back in 2016, then the first season when it came out, but then I started college and didn’t get the chance to watch the 2nd/3rd season until I decided to watch the whole series (s1 again, 2/3 for the first time) this past week
Ouran High School Host Club - ok I know it’s anime not a cartoon and I can’t see myself reblogging anything from it but it’s literally the only anime I’ve watched more than like 1 or 2 episodes of/the only one I’ve seen in its entirety so I figured eh I’ll mention it
Camp Camp - I almost forgot to mention this one! I started watching it when there was I think only 3 episodes of season 1, so back in 2016, and I’ve loved it since then! I guess this summer’s season couldn’t happen cause of covid.... But I’m still excited for when/if it does eventually come out!
Avatar the Last Airbender
Shows that I’ve partially watched but not completely:
We Bare Bears - I’ve seen the first 2 seasons, maybe some of the third I can’t remember, I watched it when it first came out but I haven’t watched it in a while, so I would probably need to rewatch a bunch of it (I did rewatch I think the first season sometime this year? But it was while working on school projects so I wasn’t giving it my full attention), apparently there’s also a movie now???
My Little Pony Friendship is Magic - I was huge into the brony fandom from roughly 2013ish-2017ish, I’ve seen up to season 8 and a few episodes of season 9, and the 4 equestria girls movies, and the mlp movie; I probably know seasons 1 - 4 the most, maybe a little of 5, 6 and 7 are kinda fuzzy but I’ve seen them, 8 I watched over quarantine (since it’d been a few years since I had watched any of it, I also rewatched bits of 5-7) as well as I think the first episode or so of season 9, but I don’t remember them too well. I watched the movie (the pony one, not eqg) when it came out in theaters, and not too long after that I drifted away from the mlp fandom (tbh I was drifting a little bit before it came out, but I knew I had to stick in there at least until it came out since I had been waiting for so long for it). The equestria girls movies, I saw them all when they first came out (I even saw rainbow rocks in the theater). I think there’s like, half hour shorts or episodes or something?? That’s in the eqg universe?? But I don’t think I’ve seen any of them, and if I have it was probably a really early one a long time ago because I haven’t really kept up with anything after Legend of Everfree came out
Animaniacs reboot - I’ve seen the first 5 episodes and it’s nice!
Shows that I’ve only seen an episode or few of that I (probably) intend on continuing to watch:
Glitch Techs - I saw the first episode! Definitely want to continue it
Rick and Morty - I watched a few episodes of the first season in like March/April quarantine, but I was still dealing with online school at home finishing out last semester then. I think I want to watch this eventually, but I have other shows that I want to catch up on/watch before I’d get to this one
Tangled the Series - idk if that’s the name I’ve seen multiple names but I hope you know what I’m talking about, I saw a handful of episodes from the first season I think sometime around fall 2019, but I’d probably have to rewatch the whole thing
Adventure Time - I’ve never had cable/cartoon network so I didn’t watch this growing up, but I’ve heard really good things about it and seen a bunch of stuff from it (I’d have to be living under a rock to have not seen anything lol) but it’s so long and I just haven’t gotten around to it yet! Well I’ve seen maybe a dozen or so episodes of the first season but it was a while ago so I’d have/want to start over probably
Shows I haven’t started
Amphibia - I’ve heard it’s good! I just haven’t gotten around to it yet
Avatar the Last Airbender - probably next on my list to watch, I’ve been meaning to watch it for years but I haven’t yet, its on Netflix now so that should make it easier to watch and a friend from school made me promise that this would be the next one I’d watch so that’s what I’m doing (I did watch the last 2 seasons of infinity train that night though, since I was really wanting to finish it first… But atla is next) watched it! (updated 12/2/20)
The Legend of Korra - obviously I’m waiting to watch it until after alta, and I’m probably going to watch it right after I finish atla
The Dragon Prince - idk really anything about it other than I think it’s on netflix? and apparently it’s good and maybe gay idk but I’ve heard it’s good thus why it’s on here lol
Black Horseman - idk too too much about this other than apparently it’s good but also kinda depressing. Similarly to rick and morty I want to watch it eventually but its not insanely high on my list
OK KO - don’t know a ton about it other than it’s decent, a step up from r+m/bojack on where I want to watch it but not urgently
Ducktales Reboot - similarly to OK KO, don’t know much about it other than it’s decent, same level of want to watch
Milo Murphy’s Law - saw a couple episodes when it came out, haven’t watched it in forever so if I ever do want to rewatch it I’d have to restart it, not super high on my priority list though
Bee and Puppycat - another one I almost forgot! I don’t know a ton about this but I’ve heard its nice! Plus from what I’ve seen I like the artstyle so  👀 maybe someday
Animaniacs (original) - I started to watch the reboot and I think I want to watch the original eventually! Just haven’t gotten around to it yet
Clone High - listen it’s not that I desperately WANT to watch this, I just have friends who are like, hey, watch this lol it’s apparently not super long so why not
Other non cartoon shows I’ve watched:
Brooklyn 99 - idk when I started watching it, maybe around season 4/5ish? I think sometime in 2018 so idk the season, idk, most of the episodes I’ve only seen once so I couldn’t tell you exactly what happens in every episode but I still like it
Rise - ugh I miss this show, I started watching it after/around when the 3rd episode came out (end of March 2018?), and I don’t think I’ve watched any of it since it ended (mid may 2018) cause its not on any streaming services anymore :/ at least not that I know of but I loved it and would love to rewatch it
Andi Mack - I’d heard it was good but hadn’t watched it after it ended (early august 2019 I think I watched it), haven’t rewatched it since then but it was decent, I mainly watched it cause I had seen clips of gay but yknow it was alright
Sex Education - watched 1st season sometime in 2019, when rewatched it/watched season 2 when it came out January 2020, this is like WAY more mature than like anything on this list but like it has an interesting story
Love Victor - watched first/currently only season when it came out mid june 2017 (how was June so long ago what)
Queer Eye - I’ve seen a couple seasons of it idk I figured why not add it lol
Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist - I think I watched this around when there were maybe a few episodes of season 1 left (well there’s only one season now but still), idk I liked it cause like musicals and stuff idk
Idk what else to add to this section but if I think of anything (to any category on this list) I’ll probably update it later maybe idk (again I’m not necessarily going to be reblogging stuff from all/any of these but like, I figured I’d mention it cause idk)
Musicals:
Another thing I love is musicals, like I’m a design/tech major in college rn so yeah I like theatre lol so I’m going to list some I’ve seen (mostly watched bootlegs of, but I’ll list some professional/tour ones I’ve seen in person)(but if it doesn’t say anything special I probably just watched a bootleg, 2017 was a big year for me and my google drive being filled with bootlegs…) This might not be all of them and I won’t go into as much detail (I hope, I haven’t typed it yet) but we’ll see:
Broadway tours I’ve seen: (I swear this isn’t bragging they were cheap seats way up high lol)
Dear Evan Hansen (May 2019)
Wicked (first professional show I saw, October 2017, haven’t watched a bootleg or anything of it since then and I went in completely blind)
Mean Girls (November 2019, last professional show I saw before quarantine)
Come From Away (September 2019)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (November 2018)
The Book of Mormon (August 2018, was hoping to again this August but quarantine :( )
Non professional/high school/college/other shows I’ve seen in person/been on crew for (not all of them, but some) (assume I’ve also seen bootlegs/proshots if there are any)
Newsies
Spring Awakening (spot op)
Shrek (props)
Legally Blonde
I’ve seen done way more but I don’t feel like listing them or that they’re anything I’d want go reblog/actively look at fandom content for (that’s not saying it reblog stuff from shrek the musical but still lol)
Other shows I’ve seen only in proshot/bootleg form:
Basically every Starkid show
Spies are Forever
The Solve it Squad
Hamilton
Heathers
Be More Chill (yes I was in that big amalgamation of musical fandom stuff with these and deh in 2017 aaaa)
Falsettos
Beetlejuice
Spongebob
21 Chump Street
Les Mis
Phantom
(Again maybe not necessarily all but some there’s a slight chance I might reblog things about)
Musicals I still need/want to watch/listen to:
The Prom
Six
The Great Comet (not typing it all out)
Hadestown
Waitress
Bonnie and Clyde
Something Rotten
Tuck Everlasting
Again there’s more I want to see I’m sure but I haven’t really watched bootlegs in a while…. Idk feel free to suggest shows tho
Movies I’ve seen/like: obviously I’m not gonna just every single movie I’ve seen but heres a few I like:
The Sound of Music
The Wizard of Oz - these 2 have actually always been my favorite movies since I was little, I can’t dee myself reblogging much of anything about them but figured I’d mention them cause why not
Love Simon
Some but not all Disney movies (I grew up with no cable/mostly just pbs)
Most pixar movies?
I don’t think John Mulaney shows count as movies but eh whatever I’ve seen them on netflix
Idk what else lol I know I’ve seen more movies than this but eh
If anyone actually read all of this... Wow I’m surprised honestly lol have a free cookie or something for your struggles or smth, idk, thanks for reading this though lol I appreciate you (but also slightly worry, this was a lot of words and a lot of rambling)

hey, i’ve been trying to watch the dream team’s content but i’m not sure where to start. do you have any advice?
oh damn this is a bit of a pfff thing hm... i dont entirely know what you mean by this but ill try my best
well, theres no real place to start?
id recommend starting with their older videos, definately. maybe a few of george or deams older “minecraft but ____” videos to get started? yknow just to settle in before you get to the more... eventful videos [ie the manhunts. they get WILD once dream starts bringing in more than one hunter] so you have context and are also more used to them, so to speak? they can get a bit,,, much. keep your volume down for any manhunts that george is in.
sapnap doesnt have too many videos so he should be a lot easier to sort thru.
i wouldnt recomend watching the stream vods right away unless youre like, mostly caught up? theres a lot of references to older things in a lot of them [like how in one of georges streams where he texts dreams mom, the context to that is in,,,, either a past livestream or a past manhunt video] and a few people show up who you might recognize, you might not [bbh, callahan, alyssa i think? u kno]
but really in the case of the dream team theres no real, legitmate place to start?
if you want video recs, then i can safely say that,,,uhh ok id recommend these [not gonna link bcos im tired but ill put their names]
for dream i rec some older videos such as - minecraft but drops are random + multiplied - minecraft but blocks attack you - minecraft but xray is always on
and a bunch more of the “mc but __” stuff
for george id absolutely rec some more recent stuff though, like the half heart challenge or the dream is a dog video. BUT his “a mob spawns every time we gain a subscriber” video is also good. he also posts a few manhunts! hes. very loud though. so uh. be careful w/ that
sapnap,, well ill be honest i havent rewatched his videos in a while [he stopped uploading for like, 7 months at one point] and he also literally only has 4 videos up, so any of those are good ! i do like his “sharing damage” one though.
but really all i can say is just,, sift through videos and see which ones catch your eye! if anythings out of context you could always ask around for videos or stream clips that help! [and as much as i dislike the compilation videos ppl make [some ppl get WEIRD] those can also be a good source of funny moments or context! space croissant on youtube is one of the ppl i rec for that stuff]
keep in mind theres also bonus stuff on second channels, though its motsly supplumentary stuff that isnt 100% needed to enjoy the full dteam experience
basically; tldr, theres no real way to start, you just,,, gotta. no one will get mad if you dont watch certain videos [i know i will never watch a solid 4 or 5] and like, picking and choosing parts to watch is fine.

About 4000 (I am so sorry) Words Concerning Films that Helped Define My Existence
Ah, movies. So much in one package. Story, music, visuals, what’s not to love? Today I shall be elaborating on the most noteworthy films in the thrilling ever-changing saga that continues to be my life. Screenplay alongside a screenplay, if you will (please take this statement as modestly as you can).
The first ever thing in my entire life that I remember being an avid and enthusiastic fan about was the original Star Wars saga, written and directed by George Lucas, spanning May 1977 (A New Hope) – May 2005 (Revenge of the Sith).
Tumblr media
As mentioned in the podcast and as you may be able to tell from said podcast, I can’t really pinpoint an exact point in my life where I was introduced to it as it was kinda integrated into my upbringing from the get-go—and due to this it’s a very near and dear franchise to me. And oh boy fun fact my first ever childhood crush was Luke Skywalker (I vividly recall my uncle asking why I had his page bookmarked haha). I remember it was something that I would always watch with my dad and or grandpa, and then when I couldn’t find the VCR set that we had for it, I officially commenced my illicit streaming career (not really though, I didn’t get very far. Only crappy 20-minute clips on YouTube). Star Wars for me was the first thing that I actively sought out stuff for or showed genuine interest in pursuing if that makes sense. Like, you’d watch whatever movies or shows were thrown at you and you never thought much of them. Ohoho not Star Wars, though, that one lasted years. My cousin and I would always bring our little action figures to play with whenever we visited—or we’d find long-ish sticks in the backyard and have lightsaber fights, I got the video games, posters, Lego sets of ships (X-wing and Y-wing to be exact), an entire encyclopedia that I still own to this day (I just checked and there’s a date written inside, April 9th 2010 (which is my 7th birthday)), and of course inspiration for my own art and such. I remember I made this magazine that was essentially just me redrawing pages from the guidebook I had. I still have it, too! Sitting at the bottom of a drawer right now. Also, later on for some reason I absolutely loved drawing Ashoka Tano. Over and over again man. I drew her taking up my cousin’s entire driveway in chalk once.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not only are the Star Wars films a nostalgic and comforting series, but it held onto its marvel throughout the. Wow well over 10 whole years, I’m getting old. Additionally, because at the time we didn’t have as much access to the things we can achieve with modern technology, I was basically all on my own with it. I fueled my own fascination. And shockingly, not a lot of people in my elementary school (up until maybe grade 6-7) showed much interest in it either. So it was pretty much just me myself and I, and occasionally my cousin whenever he visited, and I think that made it all the more special to me. Also, at the time I think it was geared way more toward kids. There weren’t series like The Mandalorian or active internet communities that were obsessed with the series as far as I was aware, so there wasn’t the same quantity of content nor overall enthusiasm around it. Nonetheless, it was and still is a very personal series due to how engrained it is into basically every aspect of my childhood. I’ll try not to be too repetitive with what I said in the podcast, but ultimately the clear nature of the franchise (attractive character designs, colours, setting in general (it’s an action-packed space adventure what’s not to love)) is what really made me latch onto it, and it kickstarted my interest in the very essence of media and understanding the film medium and what it has to offer. I remember asking how they got Jar Jar to exist on screen and he told me they made him out of CGI, and I interpreted that as they somehow made a real-life computer model out of him and that they were actually interacting with like a physical, solid hologram. Anyway, revisiting the franchise and diving into more of its intricacies now (like the production diaries) is like an absolute goldmine. There are so many aspects of it that 100% contributed to and nurtured my goals, passions, and ultimately who I am as a person. Here is some of my very recent art for good measure:
Tumblr media
Up next up we got Lord of the Rings (dir. Peter Jackson, December 2001 – December 2003) or I guess a better way to put it would be those plus The Hobbit (December 2012 – December 2014) trilogy. I think it was earlier than the Marvel phase (which follows this section) because like Star Wars I can’t really remember my first viewing of it, but I definitely watched it all. It might’ve been around grade 3 so 2011-ish? Quick anecdote, one time I had a sleepover I was really excited for, and as we all know when you’re excited for something as a kid and it’s later on in the day, time doesn’t actually pass at all, and so my genius ass decided to flip on The Fellowship of the Ring and boom it was 5 pm and time to leave. Also my grandparents from my mom’s side of the family (they’re German so we call them oma and opa) were visiting once and my opa (grandpa equivalent) wanted to watch something so I was like “omg Lord of the Rings is perfect there are so many characters he can feel empowered by (Gandalf and Saruman because they’re old)”. Phenomenal logic—now thinking back it was probably much too violent for his tastes but yknow.
Tumblr media
I love Lord of the Rings so much because it’s the true embodiment of an ideal fantasy story; there’s such pure character dynamics and personalities and Tolkien created such an incredibly solid world in which these stories take place. Man knew his stuff, and in turn provided a charming and utterly wonderful scape for young minds to roam free within. I was going to talk about this if I did my other culminating idea regarding masculinity within the media, but I have the perfect opportunity to do so here: something so great about said world is how sincere and genuine a lot of the male characters are (yknow minus people like Denethor and Alfred). Namely the fellowship, they all openly care for and are affectionate towards one another, something we rarely see between men both in modern media and in real life. Aragorn is a perfect example of someone owning and being comfortable in his masculinity. He is kind to and uplifts others, and communicates openly with them. He isn’t afraid of being intimate and vulnerable towards them, either. We see this in Boromir’s death scene. Aragorn doesn’t patronize him for trying to take the Ring, he consoles Boromir in his last moments and they treat each other with the utmost tenderness and respect—not callously or stiffly. Right after decapitating an orc, Aragorn is still able to run to his side, hold him, and kiss him on the forehead following his passing. Aragorn also isn’t afraid to share fame or glory, in fact he never seeks it out in the first place despite his lineage. It was at the battle of Helm’s Deep that he embraced that destine to be king, not out of lust for power, but because these people needed guidance and leadership and he could provide it for them. He elevates others in an incredibly positive and empowering way, especially Frodo and Éowyn, and is content with the fact that the story is not about him. Even at his own coronation, he directs every single person’s attention to the literal earth-saving feat that the hobbits have achieved in light of his own massive accomplishment. He is such a great role model to have been able to look up and aspire to be like, and I wish there were more characters and people like him.
Tumblr media
I was a fan of those original films at an earlier point in my life, but the thing that brought that interest back a little stronger was undoubtedly the release of the Hobbit prequels. Like the Star Wars prequels, everyone can say what they want but they are very gorgeous to me. I skipped out on seeing Frozen with my class to go see The Desolation of Smaug with my dad and that was SUCH a good decision. Although, I’m rewatching them all now and Battle of the Five Armies kinda sucks at the beginning. They kill Smaug in like the first five minutes and like it wasn’t bad but it was very anticlimactic. I also don’t like how they shoved Legolas in there, his personality is really jaded and he’s kind of a big prick in those films. But it’s fine I love Martin Freeman and Richard Armitage and the rest of the dwarves the most. They were obviously the most significant and I like them a lot, and there are three movies as opposed to the one book so there’s even more content!
Tumblr media
WHEW sorry about that anyway The Hobbit really was the revival/rekindling of that past love for Tolkien’s world. I also had a good close friend who was also along for the ride as well—being able to be into these things alongside someone is always fun and I’m grateful she was there and shared my same energy. She had the Lego game for that one, very similar free-roam concept as my Marvel one (coming up next), so we had lots of fun with that too. To reiterate, I am rewatching these movies again now as an older person with like an actual conscience, and my takeaway from them is vastly different on more of like… a philosophical level, I suppose. I appreciate the process of things more and the backstory behind Tolkien’s lore and the timeless characters and deeper meanings that he’s conceived. But that wouldn’t be very chronological of me to go into it here so moving on.
Tumblr media
Proceeding next, around grade four at the most (so just after it came out), I watched The Avengers (dir. Joss Whedon, 2012). Not only did this single-handedly make my art convictions explode (in a good way), it also instigated my love for soundtracks (and also the entire Marvel universe but we’ll obviously be covering that very soon).
Tumblr media
The Avengers was like an epiphany for me. Literally ground-breaking and earth-shattering. Changed my entire 10-year-old life. It was all that I ever wanted and more, and since it was around 2012-13 that I became aware of its existence, the internet community was blossoming with possibilities and content. That same friend liked it as well! My Avengers/Marvel phase definitely rivals my Star Wars phase; I think I watched The Avengers first, and then my dad was like “yeah ok you need to watch everything else now” and so henceforth Captain America and Iron Man and Thor. Those were very good times, and I actually remember experiencing all of them for the first time ever. The Christmas of 2013 was absolutely wild. I only got Marvel related gifts which was incredible at the time. My first ever ‘art of’ book was for the Avengers film, too! I also got an arc reactor shirt that actually lit up and I thought that was the absolute coolest thing ever, and then I remember I cut my tongue on this candy I was eating and my mouth bled profusely for a while. However the most iconic gift of all was my copy of Lego Marvel Superheroes for the PS3. I finished it in about 2 days, and it’s the only Lego game that I’ve gotten 100% completed progress on. I love that game dearly and still play it sometimes. The thing that I love specifically about it was the ability to free-roam the entirety of New York City as any character you wanted, me and that friend would do that exclusively for hours on end and make up our own stories with all the characters. Here is Galactus perusing the streets
Tumblr media
Speaking of characters, this was the first thing that really got me making up and drawing a shit ton (apologies for lack of a better phrase) of original characters. I’d make superhero characters for me and my friend (ok I guess I should give her a name huh), Mackenzie, and even for random people in my class cause we needed to fill in some blanks in the stories we’d make. I’d create comics, write little stories, make variation after variation of these people we came up with, and of course like normal children me and Mackenzie would go to the park near my old house and pretend we were said characters. Man it was so fun. Then we’d do all those personality quizzes to find out which member you were most like. Mackenzie and I would do these quizzes on none other than our state-of-the-art BlackBerry playbooks. For me it was usually either Iron Man or Thor, and Mackenzie had this weird curse where she’d only ever get Loki as a result for anything at all which was very hilarious to me. Circling back to soundtracks, The Avengers OST was one of my first full album purchases. The main theme was my favourite track out of all of them for obvious reasons, but I still paid respects to all of them and listened to it often. Since I bought it with my dad’s Apple ID, it’d show up on the communal iPad that we used for music in the kitchen and I have full recollection of my grandpa playing it on blast in the morning to wake us up one time. I was aggravated at first but then when I realized what it was I was like ah yes of course. After the Avengers soundtrack, I got the Wolverine (2013) OST and that was fun but I didn’t like all the tracks in the same way, but THEN I got the Days of Future Past soundtrack. THAT is a good soundtrack AND a phenomenal film.

Anyway, after that I was a Marvel connoisseur for a little while. Like Star Wars I got an entire character encyclopedia, a bunch of comics, posters, you name it. My parents and sister also enjoyed dabbling in stuff too; we’d watch the animated series together on Netflix and eventually ended up seeing all the new movies together when they came out in theatres (except not my mom though cause she gets motion sickness from action films). Marvel was a staple in the adolescence stage of my life before I was introduced to anime (then it was all downhill from there (I am kidding anime was a part of my life that I look back at with great fondness)). It was reason for so much of what I explored with my art and my own imagination, and was one of my first experiences in what it was like to be a part of a fandom-esque community. There were also memes ripe for the picking when it came to Marvel; as one can assume I had no access to memes in kindergarten to grade 1 in the late 2000s. It was such a lovely and warm point in my life, something that established what kind of passion I really poured into something when I really liked it. And akin to Star Wars, there’s just so much to like about it. There’s so much to offer, an array of colourful characters and storylines—and of course, creative liberty when it came to superpowers and that whole narrative. The sky was literally the limit. Here is some of my ancient 2014 portraiture that I dug up for the sake of this assignment
Tumblr media
Ok heads up we are now veering AWAY from childhood content and touching on a film that played a more personal part, namely during a very pivotal point, in my life. I picked up The Perks of Being a Wallflower (Stephen Chbosky, 1999) at a bookstore and read it at the speed of light; I was crying in my room on my bed by the time I finished it. I love how we see Charlie’s character change over the course of the novel, not only through what he describes or how he perceives things but his style of writing in general. Anyway, I wanted to read the novel first before I watched the movie (dir. Stephen Chbosky 2012), and I was pleasantly surprised by how accurate the movie is to the book (well duh the author directed it). I read/watched this right before I started high school, so I was kind of (but not really considering the built-up childhood trauma he has yikes) in the same position as the protagonist, Charlie, as he was starting out (minus a lot of the major aspects of his character and what he went/goes through (like drugs)). A lot of the things that he learns were really important takeaways for me before heading into that new chapter of life like he did.
Tumblr media
Contrary to the title of the (I know it started out as a novel but I’m just gonna say film) film, you need to put yourself out there and advocate for yourself in life. It’s great to be a trustworthy individual whom everyone is vaguely aware of and likes, but you need to approach things with reason and make yourself known somehow. At the time, both before and during grade 9, and even still sometimes in the present (though I do it more deliberately now), I found myself just standing on the sidelines as life happened before me and I let it sweep me away without having any feet planted on the ground. It was like I wasn’t in control of it, and in turn I might’ve struggled in some areas more than I should have. I didn’t own anything, like I wasn’t totally present. Similar to Charlie, I was a person who’d always be there for others, someone people could talk to and confide in, and ultimately someone people truly enjoyed having around—which is pretty great. But I didn’t fully know my position or what I ultimately wanted in any of those situations. Don’t get me wrong, I am incredibly grateful for my entire freshman experience and I absolutely wouldn’t have wanted it any other way considering all personal circumstances, but with that foreknowledge of the importance of making a name for yourself, especially in high school, I think I was able to branch out with ease a bit more than I would have without it. I at least was aware of what was going on in that sense. That movie is really special to me because it ended up being a pseudo-mirror of my own experiences. Charlie’s English teacher, Bill, embraced his writing abilities and urged him to participate more, share his own thoughts, and express more of his personality by giving him books for extra reading. My first ever semester of Laurier did the exact same for me as Bill did for Charlie. It fostered my interests and intellectual abilities, and you guys constantly urged me and everyone else to go above and beyond what we were used to because you knew we could do it (even though I feel like I could’ve done a lot better on some things as my marks in grade 9 are a bit lower than I’d like them to be, but hey it was a time of adjustment and I did my best and that’s what matters). As a direct result of Laurier, I’m really lucky to have been surrounded by an amazing group of passionate students, a handful of which became my closest friends throughout high school, and that my very first teachers of the day were people who uplifted me and genuinely cared not only about furthering my academic work, but about my growth as a person.
Whew let’s wade out of the sap and get into some more energetic stuff!!! To tie off this recollection of my life through film the most recent and notable movie that impacted my life was, the one and only, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (dir. Peter Ramsey, Bob Persichetti, Rodney Rothman, 2018). Similar to The Desolation of Smaug and Frozen, I went with my dad to the cinema but parted ways with him to watch this movie by my lonesome (he went to the Aquaman theatre instead smh). Again, phenomenal choice. I talked about this in my grade 11 blog, but Spider-Verse is an absolute masterpiece in every way shape and form.
Tumblr media
At the point I watched it, I knew what I wanted to generally do with my life (be part of the art industry) and the visuals of this movie alone were enough to make me want to elope with it and never see or talk to anyone ever again. It is such a gorgeous film. The way they strayed from the yucky 3D conventions norm—and there is literally no way they could’ve done the majority of what they did in that movie effectively if they did it live action. Or, they could definitely try and make an attempt, but it’d look like garbage. For example, a lot of the action scenes in general and also when they become abstracted like with the particle collider. 40-60 fps would not do that sense of movement justice at all. Too smooth. Not enough grit and personality.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, they also pioneered new animation techniques in mixing 2D and 3D, and explored a newer superhero trope where the main character’s own mundane life struggles are equally as important as him trying to sort things out with these new powers. It’s more of a battle between what Miles wants with his own personal life—new school, the friends he won’t be able to see because of said new school, owning his own abilities and adjusting to change. Then on top of that he’s met with all these alternate-dimension people that he has to work and be on par with. Aside from the art, I thought the overall message was every special: Miles learns through trial and tribulations, unsureness—and most importantly, failure. Confidence and optimism, in regard to what he thinks he can and can’t do, is vital. Amidst everything he is faced with, he starts out as just another kid who wants to be just another kid. But we all have something special inside us that we must choose to embrace if we want to truly flourish. We see him come to terms with the fact that he really is capable of greatness if he sets his mind to it—and that’s the main message: anyone can wear the mask. And can we talk about that soundtrack??? Not only the instrumentals, but the actual songs were great too! “Sunflower” and “What’s Up Danger”? Lovely and fitting. And back to the OST, the Prowler’s theme??? Shivers.

There is such a unique and beautiful vibe to this movie, and it’s inspired me in more ways than one. Aside from that nice motivational stuff, it also has recently played a tremendous part in developing my own art. All of the artists who worked on the film are people I immediately tried to find on social media so I could see more of their work. I purchased the art book, and even bought a 2D sequence illustration course provided by one of the art directors, Patrick O’Keefe. That course also came with the (digital) brushes he uses, and I’ve used them in pretty much every single one of my pieces since downloading them. This movie really showed me the possibilities of what could be achieved in the art industry, and it made me want to be a part of it so much more than I was before. I want to be involved in revolutionary visual achievements, and I want to develop characters and stories and worlds that are as interesting and loveable as the ones in Spider-Verse. (my stuff featured below)

So there you have it folks, 5 (five) of the most significant movies in my life relayed in a whopping just over 4000 words. I hope this has been enlightening for all you readers out there, perhaps you now have a better understanding of how I came to be personality/interest-wise, and I hope you can catch a glimpse of that same importance these pieces of media have in regard to me and my values.

AGWBWW that soundtrack is so good it tugs at my heart im so glad u shared it w/ me! I really am reliving all of this again I feel like I ran a marathon,, one of my fav ost is called “frustration”!! “evolution” & “supernatural haste” r really good too// ohmygod that scene where oikawa falls trying to chase that ball ahshhh same I always cry at that part ;; seijoh is just a Wholesome team!where it’s not centered around one player only and the trust they have for each other! i totally get u,,, 1/3
god the whole scene were he says talent is something u bloom!! bleasee (this worthless pride of mine!)now that I’m a lil older and having rewatched it, i feel like I understand and (admire??)oikawa way more,,he really is so so hardworking and then u think about how they never went to nationals :’)) I too sometimes think that this is all fictional and im getting way too emotional, but! im having fun and enjoying my time so I should give myself a break and just watch what makes me happy yknow! 2/3
scenes!! let’s see every time oikawa serves and the crowd goes goooo!! I get chills havwhgwhw also the whole match w/ johzenji is soo so fun to watch!! I lov how they’re not afraid to try something new even if it costed them the whole set?? Idk i just remember having a good time watching them play,,,,aaand i loved the scene where daichi got injured and they showed just how important he is even tho he doesn’t have any flashy moves or whatnot!! i have a soft spot for these kind of characters…3/3
oh wow this is getting too long I hope I’m not annoying you w/ my ramblings!! youre so fun to talk to, thank you friend youre too sweet😔💫 enjoy s3 too!! also whats your fav opening and ending out of all of them? for me, i lov the second op in s2, the s3 op and the second ending in s1!!
IT is, i rlly rlly love it and it always makes me cry,,,, when the whole music slows down and the violins just play slowly,,, it’s beautiful i used to play the whole playlist after school on the bus everyday and sleep listening to it lol, the whole thing is supposed to hype you up but somehow it calmed me and i slept, i want to gjke go back :( when we used to get excited over the episodes coming out, every week,, fun times interesting,,,, those osts !!!!! i love them the violins most of them have violins and makes me cry all the time,,,, frustration is so good ahh!!!! so are the latter ones,,, i cant wait to listen to the whole osts again :p i cannot for the life of me believe they put violins n pianos in such a hyper anime jvfknvdkjd it makes everything so much more,,,,, worth watching yknow
yknow the scene when oikawa turns around to say i believe in all of you but they all say “we believe in you captain” ,,,, have u ever seen a Team where every single one of them trust the other so b i g ,,,, its wholesome,,, heartbreaking, amazing, i rlly love that scene, the whole 5/6 episodes with seijoh really did end me entirely
mvkdsgjns bls pal, this is the most weird n embarrassing gmrjdkgdn thing im putting out on the internet but my 16 yr old self got through her junior year because of that phrase “talent is something you make bloom, instinct is something you polish” , i used to watch haikyuu before the start of njfkesn junior year, damn those times really were good ones, i used to look up to the way oikawa worked so hard, so damn much, n now that i am rewatching it ,,, i get you i totally get you, i Just seem to get everything 2 years later huh,
GOd dont remind me jeivsj have u seen the movie, i actually havent but heres this clip on youtube of seijoh after the match,, its very …. sad (but hopeful in a way at the same time) so thats a little warning ( x ) i dont think i cried this bad even during the match…. hhh
ah i have been thinking about, the emotional investment i really put into these fictional characters, but i guess when you’re enjoying something and learning something from it, it really doesnt matter, as long as it makes you happy you can put all energy into it, doesnt really matter much heh!!!
ah the match with johzenji is my second favoruite, the seijoh one is intense and powerful, and the johzenji one is just so fun to watch, they were all so fun to watch, pulling tricks out of nowehere, how impulsive they are n they just ?? pull off everything so perfectly, it was a fun game to watch, ah but the end, again it broke me,,, terushimas expression when he realized, ah youre right about having soft spot for these type of characters, i love them really!!! they build the base of the whole thing yknow hhhh
oh no you’re not annoying me at all, i love talking to you pal…. its been a long time since i watched it n i love talking about anything n everything jfegksnd i always have so much to say :p (i just hope my answers arent too big n overwhelming hhh) okay hmm favourite uh i love the s2 opening both of them, n for the ending the first s2 ending (the lighter mellowish one) n the funky s3 ending heh, okay question, who’s your favourite character? (i’ll start with mine i actually officially decided after thinking for so long oikawa (i think its very obvious) / sugawara / kuroo / futakuchi / makki / mattsun / iwaizumi / kenma heh

okay now that i’ve had a few hrs to like process some of that final season in my head (and much needed sleep), thought i would just comment on a few things that like... stayed in my head the most afterwards, plus some minor complaints. so spoilers below if you haven’t watched the new s.pop season yet
first of all, i think it’s a good thing i didn’t go in with high expectations. while yes, i was generally excited to see how it would end, and the two teaser clips that were posted on the dreamworks tv channel (which has since been renamed but details), i wasn’t like “i’m hoping that x ship becomes canon” or whatever kind of major hope. i think what i really wanted, was to feel okay with the ending. satisfied with the way the finale came to a close for all the characters involved. and i can say that i was.
i think my one real letdown honestly is the fact that adora didn’t really have much of a... “growth” in realizing what shera meant to her, or that line from madam razz on how shera isn’t the sword but adora. like... the show lightly touched on that, and kind of connected that the reason why adora was able to connect to shera again was because of catra, but i also wish it wasn’t?? at least... not just because of her. don’t get me wrong, this new season made me feel okay with the ship again because of what they did with catra (a point i will touch upon in a further paragraph), but maybe that’s just me. i think i wanted to see how adora would’ve closed her personal arc and her “destiny” in regards to her own worth alone but yknow... it’s still a kid’s show and they can only try and do so much in the series with it ending
i did appreciate that this was probably the most netossa and spinnerella have ever spoken in a season since they’re debut, and gods despite all the canon couples, or hinted at couples, i love spinnetossa the most and they just... my soft wives... even with all the angst. also netossa got some fleshing out ??? albeit minor but like... seeing a bit of her tactical prowess??? amazing. phenomenal. extraordinary. legendary
everyone else was also just... GREAT. entrapta was so endearing and just... so her and i loved every moment of it. the scorpia and perfuma dynamic was also like... so nice ??? scorpia finally having a really good and positive friend in her life??? sign me the fuck up. wrong hordak was absolutely PHENOMENAL he made me laugh the entire time and i loved it. also the star sibs? it’s sad they were only in one ep but all of their designs were great and i loved them all please bring them back
oh yeah, and redemptions happened this season. and after watching a video from the sin squad abt the concern of how the show would tackle redemptions (and if they were gonna get any) from catra, shadow weaver, and hordak, i had kept that in mind. given that there’s only 13 eps and there’s still a whole lot of stuff going on, i can tell that some “redemptions” weren’t as fulfilling as others, or felt like it was... not enough in some cases?? i think i kinda feel that the most with hordak??? sorta??? i mean i think i was trying to see what the show would do with catra, because around a certain point of the series, as intrigued as i was with her character, i also was feeling a bit... uncomfortable, which resulted in me pulling back in shipping her with adora until she worked some of her shit out. and don’t get me wrong, i do think that catra still has a lot more to work on. but again, they did the best with her redemption in the amt of time that they had so i can’t really complain much. shadow weaver’s redemption was... okay it may be my personal fave. i always found such an interest in her character as a villain. like yeah, she’s incredibly toxic and manipulative, but i love interesting villains. and her redemption happening through sacrifice to save catra who can save adora because she knows how important those two are to each other is just... so good. yeah, that doesn’t excuse all the bad shit she’s done, but i can feel satisfied with her ending. so yeah, i wasn’t really disappointed with how these three had their redemptions played out
the new shera look was also just... amazing. i liked how it felt like, in a way, it showed how adora had come into the role on her own, versus her old look which was tied to what the first ones wanted her to be (as well as mara in the past before her sacrifice). i almost forgot to mention that
the final episode made me tear up a lot, but it really hit when like... the glimmer vs micah scene was going on as well as the catradora moment (but im also an emotional sap sooo yeah)
okay finally, for now, i wanted to just briefly touch on the canon ships of the series. first of all, not mad abt any of them. seamista was pretty much “canon” but it felt more validated with sea hawk’s i love you and i love them. glimbow wasn’t really surprising for me. i mean, i’ve always been a multishipper so i always liked glimbow (and glimmadora and bowadora or whatever they’re ship name was), but i’m glad to see glimbow canon. say what you will abt childhood friends becoming lovers being an overused trope in fiction, i will still eat it up. i will say that glimmer just saying “i love you” kinda almost randomly was a bit shocking but i also figured, they’re in for the fight of their lives and it’s better to say it now then to not say something. and finally, catradora. honestly, it was either going to become canon or not, and i was okay with either choices depending on how things played out. the fact that it was canon was nice and a big step for more lgtbq+ rep in children’s media. like i sorta mentioned when i talked abt redemptions, i do think that like... the way they handled catra did soften me up to being okay to openly enjoy the pairing again. still, i also think they did... rush into it, but again, they’re trying to tie up loose ends so makes sense
i know there’s more to say, and there’s other things i left out, but all in all, i am really happy with the show as a whole. i never watched the original series, but what they did with this rendition was absolutely great and i know i’ll be rewatching it eventually. i may be slightly sad that adam doesn’t make a cameo but it would’ve been impossible to bring in he-man with everything, so that’s what aus are for
and yeah, that’s my review/random thoughts of the last of she-ra. what a great run that was
