The Ruling Princes and Princesses of Dorne
Leaders During the Unification with the Iron Throne
Aliandra Nymeros Martell - Nora Attal
Qyle Nymeros Martell - Marwan Kenzari
there’s two potential candidates for who the prince of sunspear was during daeron i’s war so I included both of them because it made the number even.
Qyle, Aliandra’s younger brother, is one of those candidates, because we don’t know if Aliandra ever had children
Qyle would have been a bit older by the submission of sunspear which is why I went with Marwain Kenzari
Marence Nymeros Martell - Rayane Allali
Elio and Linda give Maron and Myriah’s father the name “Marence” in the game Blood of Dragons.
It’s only semi canonical though and it should be noted that we don’t know how he’s related to Aliandra.
More on all that in my “who the hell is maron and myriah’s father” meta.
If Marence is Aliandra (or Qyle)’s son, he likely would have been a bit young when Daeron’s war starts so I went with a younger face for him
Maron Nymeros Martell - Tahar Rahim
Maelor Nymeros Martell - Fu'ad Aït Aattou
I specifically looked for a mixed model for this one, and Fu’ad is French and Moroccan.
Now, obviously Maelor is a Valyrian name, but it’s close to a Dornish one as well - Mallor.
I thought, given how much Maron is said to love Daenerys as well as the story Doran tells of Daenerys teaching her son how to rule, that Daenerys had a heavy hand in raising him and perhaps in naming him as well, something virtually no other lady has control over in the series
Hence, Maelor - it sounds like Baelor, it’s a less common Valyrian name, but it sounds Dornish enough as well. Kind of a meeting of both cultures, just like their son would be.
Loreza Nymeros Martell - Leila Bekhti.
This meta here lays out why Loreza is likely her name but to sum up:
Oberyn is clearly trying to reunite his family through the names of his children with Ellaria. Elia, Obella for himself, Doreah for Doran, and Loreza probably for his mother.
Doran Nymeros Martell - Alexander Siddig
Can you believe they wasted the perfect casting choice on that nonsense?
Arianne Nymeros Martell - May Elghety

I read a question a while back and don't remember if this was ever answered. But, when it comes to the marriage talks between Joanna Lannister and the unnamed (Loreza?) Princess of Dorne; do you think that another reason Joanna wanted Jaime to marry Elia, other than wanting to combine their families in marriage throughout friendships, was also so that Elia would be taken out of the competition for Cersei to marry Rhaegar?
Given the timing, I think Joanna’s primary motivation there was being genuinely freaked out and wanting to separate Jaime and Cersei. I think that was the most likely scenario. While it’s definitely plausible that it was partially a political move to better Cersei’s position, I’m not too inclined to believe that it had much to do with Rhaegar at all, or that anyone actually was thinking about the possibility of Elia/Rhaegar at that point in time. And I say that because despite Elia being older than the twins and the daughter of a Great House closest to Rhaegar in age, we don’t have any indication of any plans to marry the two of them until long after her betrothal tour - Elia’s betrothal to Rhaegar took place, like, six years after Tywin rejected her for Jaime and three after Aerys rejected Cersei for Rhaegar. That could be for many reasons, but the one I’m inclined to believe is that the Princess of Dorne was in no rush to marry Elia to anyone.
From what we know of Dornish women, we can safely assume they do not typically marry at as young an age as women elsewhere in Westeros. Arianne is still unmarried, Elia and Sylva didn’t get married until they were in their twenties, etc. We don’t have enough information about Arianne to know when Doran started presenting suitors to her, but we do know that Mama Martell didn’t do so for Elia until Elia was of age. Even then, after Jaime/Elia fell through, she made no steps to secure a betrothal with anyone. So the fact Elia’s mom was looking at that time could indicate that the entire tour, not just the stop as Casterly Rock, was because of Joanna’s request.
Elia had to be one of the eldest in that generation - Oberyn, too, actually. Obviously, Doran is older than them, but by a lot - enough that he’s separated from the rest, and was already betrothed at the time of the tour. Aside from him, it’s possible that no one had an official betrothal at the time, and that the Princess of Dorne taking Elia and Oberyn to meet with suitors was the first step any of the rulers of regions had taken to securing a match one of their children. But we have no evidence of the princess following up on this head start, which makes me think that she was perfectly content to wait, and only went on the tour when she did because Joanna asked. This is only compounded by how Elia was several years older than Jaime - if that match had been secured, it would still have been several years before they could marry at the earliest. So we can state for certain that the princess didn’t have any interest in Elia getting married in her teens.
Now. Rhaegar. I don’t really know what the whole deal going on there in terms of Mama Martell and Aerys was. Elia really was the obvious choice from within Westeros, but Tywin did not seem to realize it, and if Mama Martell did, she made no moves to act on it for years (if ever. The match was very possibly Aerys’s idea). Did Joanna? Maybe. It’s possible that the Jaime/Elia idea was partially politically motivated on her part as a way of removing Cersei’s competition. If so, it was a smart way of solving several problems at once - separating the twins; removing the competition for Cersei to marry Rhaegar; getting a good match for Jaime and a princess as the future Lady of Casterly Rock; securing a formal link to the Martells. At the very least, there was enough justification that Joanna could easily explain the match without anyone being any the wiser about it coming about as a result of her rushing to separate her children. However, of all those potential benefits of the match, the part about Cersei and Rhaegar is by far the least certain because it entirely hinges on the assumption that, without Elia, Cersei would be the obvious choice, which we really can’t say for sure - why wouldn’t Aerys just send another envoy to Essos? That leaves me thinking that Joanna very possibly considered Cersei’s marital prospects in this, but not in terms of Rhaegar specifically. Maybe she just figured that with Elia, one of the most eligible ladies in the realm, linked to Jaime, Cersei would have better prospects in general.
It’s hard to say without further evidence about what was going on at the time. But I’m leaning towards Joanna’s motives being mostly her reacting to the Jaime and Cersei thing.
