Mmmh for a person who does not like to do full physical descriptions of people I do love to lovingly zoom in on people's physical features in writing

ok i have decided that the magic system in after the final battle works like magic the gathering (but with destruction preservation and creation)
this is cause 1 i don´t think a hyperdetailed magic system works that well on the medium of comic 2 i don´t wanna come up with a hyperdetailed magic system

I think the funniest thing to happen to me in the last few years was the whole thing about people discussing how their thoughts visualize, and a bunch of artists especially were talking about how they draw with aphantasia. And I would always be sitting there reading stuff like "weird, I can't imagine that at all, I've got whatever the opposite of this is hahahaha" and then one day I was talking with friends and they were like "...Robs that's an actual thing. You literally have the opposite thing."

What weapon do you like if you had to choose?
So I had the fortune of testing a wide variety of cold weapons because of my association with Spring Chant. And I think my preferences lie with a Crescent Moon Spade.
Tumblr media
A chan(2)zhang(4) is a pole weapon that has a flat spade-like blade on one end and a half-crescent moon blade on the other. The half-crescent moon is inverted contrary to expectations so that the convex end is attached to the rod, leaving the concave end open. Note that the blades of a traditional Crescent Moon Spade are not meant to be sharpened.
It is known as a Monk's Spade / Shaolin spade because Buddhist monks would carry these weapons back then to protect themselves against bandits, but it also served an additional purpose. The spade portion is actually meant to bury corpses found on the road, while the half-crescent moon portion is meant to non-lethally subdue wild animals by positioning the crescent over an animal's neck and keep them at bay that way.
From my practice, I prefer heavier weapons to lighter weapons; it's why I wield a staff during my normal martial practice as opposed to a bat or equivalent-bian . And I do like how the origins of the weapon came about, which I suppose is perfect for a mostly-pacifist like me. Broken bones are just as good a way to end a fight if someone intends harm on you.
I once considered a zhanmajian, a large anti-calvary double-edged blade. But in the end, I know that if I connected well with one of those, there won't be much left to piece together. Its name translates to "horse beheading blade" for a reason.
--
On a side note, for martial art movie enthusiasts, the Crescent Moon Spade does make a brief appearance in one of the more modern classics, but most people probably don't realize it because its appearance was so brief.
In the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", Yu Shu Lien (Michelle Yeoh) attempts to use a heavy version of the Monk's Spade against Jen Yu (Zhang Ziyi) in their fight. However, Shu Lien comically falls backwards in the middle of her swing because the spade portion was much too heavy. The weapon gets immediately discarded in favor of a single rod bian. Haha.

Wack Anon: Wasn't going to say it, but yeah, the difference between the pokespe reread and the first time reading is so funny. It's like "Capitalism capitalism gender capitalism gender gender ecological disaster gender" and then right to "these are my babies and I want them to be happy. Diamond please stop doing stupid and reckless things, you could be killed!" It might also be because of how the writing did kind of shift in Gen 4 in part.
yeah there was definitely a tonal shift after gen 3 that affected how i engaged with the manga. and also i was so endeared by the dppt trio that my capacity for critical thought was replaced with "i'm love them".

The one thing I've learned from the whole ai art fiasco is that i genuinely should not give a shit posting art with some flaw in it that I noticed a little too late even if it feels blatant because no one is gonna notice or care

Honestly my biggest pet peeve with how greek mythology gets portrayed these days (besides please pick any of the hundreds of stories that aren't Persephone/Orpheus/Medusa/Troy is on thin ice) is white-washing, like, literally any of the Olympians as progressive in the modern sense (trans-friendly feminist anti-racist whatever) benevolent figures.
Anyway acceptable portrayals of modern Athena are 1) CEO of Predator Drones and 2) super-intense wargaming nerd who starts rolling her eyes when someone tries to bring politics into her hyperdetailed Vietnam War counterinsurgency sim.
