A while ago, I read that Mangos are offered to Ganpati, it’s said it’s his favourite fruit. And here I found a bronze sculpture, where Ganpati holds a mango in his left hand. #FullCircle #Gods #GodsOfIndia #FruitsForTheGods #Food #KingOfFruits #Mango #Ganpati #Ganesh #Bronze #BronzeCasting #Offering #Hindu #Hinduism #Mythology #Hyderabad #HyderabadDiaries #HyderabadJournal #Telangana #India #Wanderer #Wanderlust #Travel #Travelogue #TravelDiaries (at State Archaeological Museum, Hyderabad)

Among other monuments in the garden that are not tombs, the most important are the mortuary bath and the Masjid of Hayat Bakshi Begum. The mortuary bath, which stands opposite the tomb of Muhammad Quli, was built by Sultan Quli to facilitate the ritual washing of the bodies of the dead kings and others of the royal family before they were carried to their final resting place. The practice followed was to bring the body out of the fort, through the Banjara Gate, to this bath, before carrying it away for burial with the ritualistic pomp that was required to mark the occasion. A large number of people, fond subjects, friends and relatives attended. The bath is one of the finest existing specimens of ancient Persian or Turkish baths. #Heritage #Historic #Rituals #Bath #Mortuary #BathOfTheDead #Royals #Sultans #ArchesForDays #TurkishBath #Monuments #QutubShahiTombs #QutubShahiDynasty #Golconda #Hyderabad #HyderabadDiaries #HyderabadJournal #Telangana #India #Wanderer #Wanderlust #Travel #Travelgram #Travelogue #TravelDiaries (at Qutb Shahi tombs)

Nataraj Motupalli Prakasam District in this fine bronze of the Chola period, Shiva is seen as supreme god and the Lord of dance Nataraja. The God is shown in the Nandatandava. The upper right hand he holds a drum, representing the primordial sound of creation. The upper left hand who is the flame of destruction, that both destroys and cleanse the impurity of the soul, indicating the overcoming of opposites in his nature that are symbolised by both female and male earrings. He makes the gesture ‘have no fear’, and points to his raised left foot, symbolising release or place to refuse and salvation for the worshipper. He treads upon the prostrate dwarf of ignorance, illusion Apasmara and the sense of ego which a devotee must overcome. The diminutive figure of the goddess Ganga appears in his flowing hair. The god maintains an exquisite poise and equanimity at the centre of the world and circle of cosmic activity, symbolised by the flaming circle. #CholaPeriod #Bronze #Splendid #Precise #Gods #GodsOfIndia #Nataraja #Shiva #ShivShankar #Hindu #Hinduism #HinduMythology #GodsOfDance #Creation #Destruction #StateArchaeologicalMuseum #MuseumsOfIndia #Hyderabad #HyderabadDiaries #HyderabadJournal #Telangana #India #Wanderer #Wanderlust #Travel #Travelogue #TravelDiaries (at State Archaeological Museum, Hyderabad)

The villa is in the palladian style and similar in design to its near-contemporary in the United States, the White House. The house was designed by Lieutenant Samuel Russell of the Madras Engineers and construction began in 1803. Kirkpatrick built the mansion for himself and his Indian wife Khair un Nissa, who bore him two surviving children who were sent to England by the age of five and never saw them again due to the early deaths of their parents. This incredible stairway still gleams of the time gone by. #Heritage #Historic #Architecture #Interior #Stairway #Beaut #Beautiful #DesignAesthetic #PalladianStyle #BritishResidency #Koti #Hyderabad #HyderabadDiaries #HyderabadJournal #Telangana #India #Wanderer #Wanderlust #Travel #Travelogue #TravelDiaries (at British Residency Hyderabad)

Well it won’t be Hyderabad visit, if you don’t go shop some pearls right? Hyderabad has always been referred to as the “city of pearls” even though it is far away from the sea. The Nizams of Hyderabad led a very opulent lifestyle. Pearls in Hyderabad have a long history. Ram Dutt Malji, a Haryanvi pearl trader, became a royal jeweler. His son, Seth Kedarnathji Motiwale, opened the first ever pearl shop in Patthargatti way back in 1906. Intitially, the trade in pearls depended on the pearls coming from the Persian Gulf. There are two kinds of pearls-real or cultured. After a pearl is made, it is separated as per the shape. The drilling is either done horizontally or vertically. This is done by highly skilled artisans. Once this is done, the pearls are graded according to the sheen, glaze, shape, size, luster and uniformity. Various kinds of ornaments are made from pearls like bracelets, Kundan sets and enameled sets, Satlads (seven strand pearl, set with precious stones), lacchas, chand bali (a moon shaped ear-ring), chokers, rassi (a chain set in the form of rope) chatai (a mat type chain, ear rings and rings), hath phool (for the fingers and the wrist), vaddenam (waist belt) and Tanmani. I however after some shopping got totally mesmerised by the Shells 🐚 #Pearls #NaturalPearls #Love #Jewels #Traditions #Crafts #CraftsOfIndia #Nizam #Basra #OriginalHeartOfTheOcean #Elegance #Grace #StrandsOfPearls #TheCityOfPearls #PearlTrade #Historic #Heritage #Hyderabad #HyderabadDiaries #HyderabadJournal #Telangana #India #Wanderer #Wanderlust #Travel #Travelogue #TravelDiaries (at Hyderabad)

The Kakatiya dynasty was a Telugu dynasty that ruled most of current day Andhra Pradesh, India from 1083 CE to 1323 CE, with Orugallu, now Warangal, as its capital. Orugallu is also called 'Eka Sila Nagaram'. Shaivite Hindu in nature, it was one of the great Telugu states that lasted for centuries until conquest by the Delhi Sultanate. The Kakatiyan architecture has unique components that are not seen elsewhere. The strengthening of foundations through sand box technique, the skill of Kakatiya sculptors manifest in adroit craftsmanship and flawless ivory carving technique in their art, the ingenuity of Kakatiya sculptors visible in likes of lathe turned, and shiny polish in dolerite and granite stone sculpture and craft work of Nava rangamandapa are some such aspects. One of the four pillars at the State Archaeological Museum displaying just hints of the grandeur and skills of this forgotten dynasty. #Heritage #Historic #Architecture #Pillars #Chiselled #HandMade #HandCarved #Stone #SetInStone #Beauty #ArchitecturalDetails #KakatiyaDynasty #TeluguDynasty #TimeGoneBy #ThenAndhraPradesh #StateArchaeologicalMuseum #MuseumsOfIndia #Hyderabad #HyderabadDiaries #HyderabadJournal #Telangana #India #Wanderer #Wanderlust #Travel #Travelogue #TravelDiaries (at State Archaeological Museum, Hyderabad)
