Achievements Analyzing for the Sake of Characterization

((Because what is my liiiife-

Anyways, after bringing up the Oracle Turret as a means of pointing to a softer side of Chell, I decided to look into the other achievements in both of the Portal games [including the Still Alive port] and Mel’s mod for my interpretation of Chell and Mel’s characters [ignoring the ones that are either achievable outside of the main storylines or through deaths, the former I don’t consider canon to them because, you know, not in their stories, and the latter because them dying is def not canon.] because I find that taking certain actions being rewarded is a tad interesting.

Now, these are probably me reaching, buuuuut since Chell and Mel are blank slates, I don’t have too much to go off of, so I’m grasping at as many straws as I can for them.

Anyways! Let’s get started!

Chell

Not really much to say with these ones. You get all of these by advancing the game. Though I would like to point out two of them;

One, the Fratricide Achievement. By definition, fratricide is the act of either killing your sibling or your ally. This is the achievement you get for euthanizing your Companion Cube. Both the name of the achievement and its description catches my attention. The title reinforces, at least to me, that Chell felt some connection to her cube in some compacity. However, the description the extent Chell is willing to go to survive. We all no that she is stubborn and never gives up, but this instance demonstrates that Chell, if she absolutely has to, is willing to sacrifice an ally or even a loved one to stay alive. Really, Wheatley’s not too far off when he called her selfish, which, oof-

And the second one is the SaBOTour Achievement, the one you get for following after Wheatley during your little jailbreak. Not much given, just like the little icon, depicting a stick figure [the player] running while holding a core [Wheately]. idk I think it kinda implies Chell’s intention of not just using him for her escape, but genuinely wanting to escape with him. And I think it’s sweet. Maybe I’m reaching here, but god dammit lemme have this-

Chell’s skills(tm). This shows the extent of her reflexes and speed as well as how well she can solve tests. Not only is she good at avoiding getting shot and can solve at least one test without ever even touching the block needed for it [I know you can get this achievement automatically by solving Wheatley’s first test, but you can actually earn it earlier if you’re clever enough in the sixth chamber] but she’s such a pro that she can manipulate a rocket turret to shoot its own rocket, catch a wildly bouncing box before it even touches the ground, and can even complete at least one test in a little over a minute.

What I’m saying is that she’s practically got super humanly fast thinking and reaction and is overall abnormally efficient. Like, jesus, Chell relax-

Though, to be fair about the last one, the test chamber 10 in question is in Portal 2 Chapter 2, and she’s basically seen it all at this point, so it’s not like she’s naturally this fast.

Chell’s portaling habits. The first two seem to imply Chell testing out the capabilities of the portal gun. Though I am also inclined to believe that along with the Saw That One Coming, Drop Box, and Overclocker Achievements that the first one could also imply that she’s a bit of a show off, or at least that she likes to make personal challenges for herself.

As for the Out of the Blue, this could imply the order in which she puts down the portals.

These are achievements that are rewarded to you for being thorough [I’ll explain the the Scanned Alone Achievement in a sec-] enough to find them. I believe these can point to her being a rather curious and observant person with an experimental “try everything that won’t definitely kill you” sort of thinking.

And the Scanned Alone Achievement can even further that “Try everything” way of thinking, and also demonstrates that not all her ideas work, but hey, at least she knows.

Also it’s funny as fuck to think that this was an idea she had before grabbing a defective turret, and I’m disappointed that Wheatley did not comment on it-

Chell’s relationships with the [rather few] sentient beings she’s encountered, not counting the antagonists. The short answer? She loves Companion Cubes and fucking hates Turrets. To the point where she goes out of her way to destroy them once they deactivate.

Though, the No Hard Feelings Achievement demonstrate that she’s not so blinded by hate that she isn’t willing to make exceptions or recognize that not everything is out to hurt her, and even show some compassion every once in a while. Or at the very least mercy.

Oh look, instances of Chell being a defiant lil’ shit. What a surprise-

For real, though, Chell absolutely goes out of her way to be a nuisance to her antagonists in any way she can. Just give her half a god damn chance to do so-

Although the name of the first depicted achievement, Camera Shy, also implies that she doesn’t very much like to be watched, fuuuurther reinforced by her smashing Wheatley’s monitors when solving his tests. Though that could also be her demonstrating just how pissed with him she is-

Mel

Unlike with Chell, I’m skipping Mel’s story related achievements because I don’t have anything to say about them.

Also, Portal Stories: Mel has a lot of achievements that involve you dying [Though I have an interpretation on that that involves one of the few achievements that don’t involve dying], so as a result, I don’t have nearly as much to work with. But I will try-

These all demonstrate both curiosity, sharp eyes, and just absolute stubbornness.

Though unlike Chell, she seems to have less of a want to experiment and more of a want to explore or in the case of the Determined Achievement, to not leave things unfinished. And often times goes against Virgil’s advising against it. Probably OCD as fuck-

Also she recognizes that Companion Cube is shaped like a friend and is sad that she can’t take it with her-

An example of Mel’s bitchitude. This combined with her refusing to take Virgil’s advice at the start of their partnership is that she didn’t particularly like him. Aaaaand now that she met him in person, she can get back at him by making him as frustrated as he made her.

And to be fair, Virgil painted himself as untrustworthy from the moment he woke her up and was overall kind of a jack ass, so yeah, it’s fair to think their relationship is rocky at first. Although overtime they did end up growing on each other, so.

Also a pretty fun reference to when Wheatley tried to bust Chell out-

The only achievement where you can be hurt without fucking dying. And here’s my interpretation on this.

Unlike Chell, not only is she very much inexperienced with the Aperture brand bullshit, but she’s also not quick enough to avoid getting hurt.

And that could go back to how the experiment she signed up for affected her health. Remember what Virgil said? The chemicals that Mel was pumped full of could cause heart attacks from the mere exposure to them. Not to mention the instances where she was having trouble physically exerting herself.

Rocks falling everywhere? All she could do was walk up the stairs [if she didn’t take the elevator]. Heavy door Virgil directed her to? She couldn’t open it, no matter how hard she tried, so they were forced to go a different route.

And keep in mind, she used to be an Olympic Athlete. A track runner to be more precise. Competed in the 1936 Nuremberg games. And after the cryogenic sleep test, she’s been brought so out of shape that she can’t even run like she used to [probably from atrophy combined with her heart attack prone... heart...]. And then having to navigate so many dangers? It’s not a surprise she’s gotten hurt throughout the journey. Hell, it’s a wonder she survived holy shit-

Aaaaanyways, I think that’s all of the achievements I could find. I would do one for Gel, but I couldn’t find any achievements for Aperture Tag. So. Fack-

Appearance:

I have long brown and blue hair, brown eyes and a long thin nose. My face is quite rectangular, and I have olive skin tone (but pretty light compared to others). I am chubby and well-proportioned I’d say. My nails are always short (except for holiday season because my nails won’t constantly break like during work) and usually some kind of varnish is on it. 50% of the time I wear clothes with some kind of pattern on it or colourful stuff, 25% of the time black and 25% pink shit, and always my casio on my wrist. I have 2 tattoos and 4 piercings, one stretched earlobe. Usually I wear make-up, and everyone knows me for wearing colourful eyeshadow.

Personality:

I am quite outgoing and like spending time with my friends and family and partner, but as much as I love having people around me, I need time to be alone. I just need to. I try to have an open ear for other people’s problems, but be prepared I might cry along with you because I am a very emotional person (like on Friday I was in a concert and started crying because the song was so touching lol). I’d say I am quite confident, but I need time adjusting in a new environment before returning to my confident self. At work I am the most patient person, but with my family I tend to be impatient a lot and I hate myself for it, but it’s getting better. I am very creative and love dwelling on details on random stuff (like I could tell you for an hour why I like a particular song for example). That’s also a reason why I can’t get shit done sometimes because I daydream a lot. Like… a lot… one person told me I remind them of Luna Lovegood because I seem trapped in my own bubble. I love arts. I used to be super tidy as a child, but now I am quite messy. I am often late (sorry to anyone affected by this v.v°). I love travelling. My bag is always ready for my nomad life, as I am always on the go.

Abilities:

I speak 3 languages! Also I draw and make jewellery. Also I have the ability to make a mess out of my room in the shortest amount of time, just watch me :^) professionally I am a druggist (but not the one working at a pharmacy, mind you) and I have a bachelors degree of trade and commerce. Also I’m a certified trainee instructor.

Experiences:

Well? I don’t know what this refers too… Maybe some random shit: -I used to do traditional greek dance as a kid. -I’ve never left Europe (sadly), but I’ve travelled to London, Vienna, Paris, Berlin and other cities. -When I was a smoll bean, I went to the central plaza of my dad’s village in Greece and returned with a puppy in my arms. My grandmother kept the pupper. -I love freaking LOVE technology, when I used my huge ass multitalented wireless printer for the first time and printed something via my phone I almost cried in excitement. -I can stop reading a book if it’s boring. -Once on my way home I sat in the tram, and there was a group of friends, drunk, pretty loud and happy, they were wearing traditional Bavarian clothing (Tracht), and they were …deaf! And one of the girls sat opposite to me, and complimented my hair, like we talked without using words, only by using our facial expressions and our hands, and she grabbed on piece of her hair and pointed at mine and we laughed, and then she offered me some of her vodka and I was so yolo at the moment I accepted, although I don’t accept drinks from strangers usually. I had such a blast these 10 minutes we spent together on the tram, I often think about her, and hope she is doing fine :’) - I remember as a young girl, I was sitting on an old faucet which was built in the short wall framing my grandparents’ house, and I was starring at the sky in disbelief. There I was, a young city girl, born and raised in Munich, sitting on an old faucet somewhere in an small village in Greece starring at the beautiful nightsky, seeing something I’ve never seen before. There were so many stars, just…so… so many stars… thousands and thousands of shiny dots across a black canvas. And they seemed to be alive. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Till this day, I remember this night, and I hear my mom asking what I was doing out there alone, surrounded by the wild noises of thousands of bugs around me. It has been more that 10 years, and this night is so vibrant in my memory. I will never forget this moment till my dying day. Still, I often spent time in Greece watching the stars, always in the back of my mind what my grandma told me once: don’t count the stars, it brings misfortune. - I pierced my ears on my own (…stupid). - I pretty much had my hair dyed any colour of the rainbow (except yellow, but I guess blonde counts?). - I’ve been to A LOT of concerts.

(I have some negative experiences too of course, but I don’t want to dwell on them) My life:

I still live with my parents, because I cannot afford anything on my own atm, but also due to other circumstances. Till the end of September I worked full time, now I started studying sociology (BA). I have been employed in the company I work for for 10 years now, and I love my work although it’s tough :’). I have a little sister who I love dearly, and she is making me a proud big sis:). My parents are the best parents, seriously you could not wish for better parents. I am super grateful to them for all I’ve been able to do in my life and all the love and support they have given, and are still giving me. Also, I’m so proud of them. The thought of what my parents have gone through makes me cry. I used to think I don’t have a lot of friends, but I do! And they all are beautiful unique personalities, I love them! I live the nomad live, as I feel I’m rarely home, always on the go. My co-workers are the sweetest people, I love seeing their faces light up when they see me :’) (ILY!!!) And my partner… there are no words to describe what sweet of a person he is. A puppy is nothing against him. I want to cuddle him forever. I am online a lot, but I don’t get involved with a lot of people online, safe for… 2 :’D Rach and Mine! I usually admire from afar, and fangirl in the tags for example. Overall I wake up everyday being thankful, my life is good! I appreciate every moment. I am blessed.

PDL Week 0 Draft Analysis and Power Rankings

PDL Season 3 Draft Recap

After a successful draft for season 3 it is time once again to over analyze every team and see if they are up to standards. This year I’m going to be analyzing each team based off a set list of criteria that I think are very useful to have on a good team. I will also be briefly giving my thoughts on the each coaches draft and how I think it might fare. I’m looking at all teams post draft before any trades were made. I will be ranking all 24 based off the following criteria:

Do you have 2+ Stealth Rock setters?

Do you have 2+ Hazard Removers?

Do you have a Fantasy Core (Steel, Dragon, Fairy)?

Do you have a Fire Water Grass Core?

Do you have a Pokemon with speed 110 or more?

Do you have a Pokemon with Speed 50 or less?

Do you have a Pokemon with Spikes?

Do you have a Pokemon with Toxic Spikes?

Do you have a Pokemon that can set up?

Do you have some Speed control? (Webs/TR/Tailwind)

Do you have a Grounded Poison pokemon?

Do you have a Ground type?

Do you have a cleric (Heal bell /Aromatherapy)

Did you effectively choose Z captains?

Were both Physical and Special attackers drafted?

With that let’s jump right into the draft analysis.

Corsola Cola Division

Columbus Gallade: 14/15

Overall a very good draft. The only thing missing from the draft is a mon that could set up spikes. The cores are a little weak with the fairy type being Granbull and the grass type being leafeon but I’m really excited to see how he uses it. There is lots of set up potential on both the physical and special side so prepping for this team is not going to be easy to do.

Pittsburg Piplups: 12/15

This team hasn’t completed the Fire Water Grass core, which while not necessary to a good draft but it does help out a lot. While the team isn’t weak to hazards not having a grounded poison type means toxic spikes become more useful against this type of team. The sand core I think will work really well this year especially with excadrill which is a terrifying mon both defensively and offensively. Make sure you have an answer for it.

Hartford Wailords: 10/15

The weakest part of this team is the reliance on Silvally. The team has several 1 type mons or mons that fill double up on typing without hitting a lot of important types for a draft such as ground, dragon, and fairy. This leaves Silvally for have to fill those roles. Not only that but Silvally is the only defogger on the team. While there are 2 rapid spinners most times they will not want to have to run rapid spin in order to have good coverage. I’m excited to see how Puckbud will pilot this team.

Edmonton Entei: 13/15

There are 2 big issues i have with the draft and they are not completing either core. Not having a fairy type in draft league i think is an issue with most teams having a powerful dragon type. The other issue is not having a water type to finish that core. I feel that leaves holes in the team. Despite some weaknesses it is a top rated team for hitting all the other boxes.

Pewter City Golems: 10/15

This team has a good mix of Stealth Rockers and defoggers but the double golem pick is a little questionable since they basically fill the same role. Otherwise it seems like a decent draft. Not having any spike setters or a grounded poison can be an issue if used against them.

Heartland Haunter: 10/15

Hazards and Hazard removal are what are keeping this team from being higher. Ferrothorn is the only main hazard setter and i’m not particularly fond of the defoggers of Scyther and Koko. However I’m a huge fan of the Koko-Ferro-Goodra core and there are a lot of other good mons on this draft. I think the coach may want to rethink a z move or two but otherwise I think it has a lot of potential.

Green Tauros Division

Republic City Fire Furret: 13/15

The only thing missing from Clod’s team is the option for spikes and Toxic Spikes but other than that this team is fairly solid. A good mix of offense and defense with decent speed tiers overall. Not much more I can say about my team.

Blackfoot Scrafty: 12/15

This is a really interesting team. There are a lot of lower tiered threats on this team that deserve their spot. The only things going against them are not having a ground type in their draft. That and their team is relatively slow so don’t bring trick room. I’m really excited to see how Rotted pilots this team.

Minnesota Nidokings: 12/15

Snag has drafted a very defensive team this year with mew. It looks like he had a plan going into the draft and then some of the later picks seems to be filling in gaps for his team rather than playing with synergy, but it is snag and he will find a way to do some great things with it!

Belper Beedrill: 14/15

This draft has almost everything you would want in a draft. Good defense, hazards and good removal. The only thing I can fault is that there really isn’t a good mix of special and physical attackers. The team is overwhelmingly physical and I think lacks some special power but with the ever improving british gent, I’m sure he will make up for it.

Star City Staraptors: 14/15

This is another really solid draft missing just spikes from full points. I really like the offensive presence that this team emits. Between Krookodile and Heatran there is a lot of potential and a lot of mind games trying to prep for this team.

Manitoba Magnezone: 14/15

This is one of the best teams drafted this year. It has so much potential. It can do almost everything you want to be able to do in draft league. We haven’t seen M-Sceptile shine in draft league yet… maybe this year will be the year!

Toxapepsi Division

Miami Delphox: 13/15

On paper this team looks disgusting but then when you take another look at it, you realize there is no fairy type on the team. That isn’t a bad thing but it is important to know, especially when team building. Fack is an incredible battler so I know he will make up for it. I think the Infernape Celesteela core is disgusting along with Manaphy and thundurus-I. An offensive team that is going to be a nightmare to prep for.

Thundurus From Down Undurus: 13/15

Sparky has drafted an deadly team this year. There is a lot of physical power with good set up options however, he does lack the special offensive power. Sylveon is the most offensive special threat, while that isn’t bad it isn’t that good either. That might be a point of weakness for them throughout the season but i wouldn’t count sparky out. He is very capable and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with.

San Antonio Squirtle Squad: 12/15

This might be one of my favorite drafts of the season. Jeremy drafted such good value in every tier and has an incredible draft. The only issue is that he doesn’t have a fairy type. It isn’t needed for a successful draft but it is nice to have. I just personally love a lot of these mons in draft league like Gengar, escavalier and miltank. I’m sure Jeremy will put this team to good work.

Clearwater Magmar: 14.5/15

This is another team that is so close to full points. You may notice the half point that was given and that is because of the lack of physical power on the team. There are several threats like nidoking and hawlucha however nido is usually run mixed and hawlucha needs an SD before it can do any real damage. However it is a team that can do everything you need. Very solid draft.

Glittering Cave Gardevoir: 10/15

I feel that TheBoyGardevior left a lot on the table. After the draft concluded I think he had over 200 free points unused which is not the most ideal thing. This team has a lot of duplicate typings which could be an issue. Granted they are types that do synergize well together. I’m excited to see how he can use this rag tag group of mons to riot against the other teams.

Rochester’s Scalding Volcanians: 12/15

Dennis, despite not having Mimikyu, has a good draft. He showed us in the past what he can do with Volcanion and again it returns to cause more mayhem. I especially love the kecleon pick, because it has so many viable sets in draft league and with protien it can type change like a true chameleon.

Rhyhorn Steakhouse Division

Kona Diamond Head: 14/15

Seth and Ozzy have given into the darkness and drafted semi stall with some breakers. Reuniclus and Clefable are draft league all starts the require prep to be done in order for them not to take complete advantage of your team. I do find this team to be very slow and post draft they still don’t have a water type. I think that is crucial to a good draft but maybe they can make a transaction to acquire one or show us that you don’t need them.

San Antonio Espurrs: 15/15

Sublime checked off every box with this draft. Hazards… he has it. Removal he has it. Set up he has a lot of it! This is a team that took full advantage of the tier list and found some hidden steals in the lower tiers. I really like this team and think that it is probably the most complete. Hats off to you Sublime. Good draft!

Salt Lake Combee: 12/15

Lynian has a really bizarre team in my mind. It looks like he wanted to go one direction and ended up changing half way through. That is also what makes it so interesting and difficult to prep against. Lots of bulk and lots of offensive power. You never know what he is going to bring week to week. I know lynian will show us some fun strats and surprise us all.

San Paulo Scizor: 12.5/15

I really like what Dell has drafted this season. He has good bulk to pair with Zard Y and and Bulu. Outside of those 2 mons I find that his team lacks power. A lot of mons need to set up in some way before they are a threat which in draft league isn’t as easy to do. I think dell is in for a real challenge this season fighting in a tough division and conference.

Houston Zeraora: 11/15

Despite some of the type duplicates and shared weaknesses of the mons of this team, I actually like what Aggie drafted. I think the Aurora Veil offense that he has will be really tough for teams to deal with if he gets a chance to set up. I think this team will be underrated until Aggie shows us it’s true potential.

Dayton Dragonites: 14/15

Dexio drafted an overall solid team. It is comprised of a bunch of mons that have good potential and can be deadly in the right hands. Charizard is tough to play with because of it’s rock weakness, but if you have 4 other defoggers and rapid spinner then it may not be an issue at all. I think we are in for a team with this team because it has so much potential.

POWER RANKINGS

Four times this season we will have power rankings for PDL season 3: Post Draft, after week 4, 8, and right before playoffs. Geo and I will both be sharing our rankings along with the community average submitted by the other coaches. For this first ranking I will be purely going off the numbers of the draft analysis, not taking into account the coaches ability. Geo will give his thoughts below and then we will have the community rankings all side by side. We are only ranking the top 12. These are bound to change as the season goes on and do not take into account any trades these teams have made. If you don’t see your name the best thing you can do is win your games and prove you deserve to be on the list.

Geo’s Rankings

So for my rankings this time around it based mostly on draft. I would say 70% the other thirty percent comes from what I could figure out about you as a coach and a player (recent placings in PUCL tourneys etc.). I can already see a few people who ranked maybe a little lower than you would expect and a few probably higher than you would expect. Ordinarily it would be switched and from the weeks following as I do these it will probably reflect that. We have a few new people in the league (new to me) so I am very excited to see how they perform. One of the greatest things though, is that the gap between the ‘top’ tier and ‘bottom’ tier drafts are lessening. As is play among the coaches. So good luck to everyone and happy hunting.

Community Rankings

For the Community rankings we had about 17 people participate. If someone was ranked 1st they received 12 points, 11 for second and so on down to 1 point for 12th. Then we summed up the numbers each coach got and ordered them in descending order and those are the Community Rankings. The point values overall were very close so you never know what will happen on the next go around.

What's your name?

Ian. You can call me Ian. Or Oath. Hey. 'Sup.

How old are you?

At the time of writing this, 32. My birthday is October 7. I'm not very mature though.

Where are you from?

I live in Orlando, Florida, in the United States. It's okay, mostly warm.

What is your race/ethnicity/nationality?

I'm Filipino American. My mom and dad are from the Philippines, but I was born in Indiana. I look ethnic, but I got that radio voice. Throws people off. I like it.

When do you stream?

At the moment, really, whenever I can. I’ve tried setting a schedule and sticking to it, however, with being a bartender and in a long distance relationship, my professional and private life takes precedence over streaming, so I stream usually in the evenings when I can manage it. SORRY FOR INCONSISTENCY.

What's with the bar and the drinks?

I'm a craft cocktail bartender. I was trained by Rene Nguyen at two of Orlando's best craft cocktail bars, Hanson's Shoe Repair and Herman's Loan Office. Currently in the bar scene, I work at the two aforementioned bars anywhere from two to five times a week. I've built a bar here for the stream due to my recent growing interest. I hope with dedication and time I can share my passion for craft cocktails with the Twitch Community. I tend to stick with classic cocktails, plays on classics, or riffing on classic bases, but I'm open to anything suggested within reason.

Do you take orders? How can I suggest a drink?

I do, so long as I have the stuff for it and it’s a classic cocktail in nature. Inappropriate drink orders, like a Redheaded Slut, Liquid Cocaine, or a Leg Spreader, for example, will not be made, nor will it be taken likely in the chat. Classic cocktail requests only, plays on classics, or a craft cocktail you may have tried, hell, if you wanna throw ideas at me, we can workshop on the stream.

What games do you stream?

I stream mostly the Sims 4. I'm pretty much a Sims 4 streamer, but I do play other things as well, mostly city builders, RPGs, survival games, sandboxes, anything with larger scope, long term gains aspect to it. I play story driven games on occasions, but not as often. Big indie game fan, so you'll see some of that. Not much of a FPS/shooters kind of guy, so you probably won't see me at the Call of Doots.

What're you computer specs?

I have an Intel i7-4790K Quad-Core CPU at 4GHz, 16GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GTX 970. That's the important bits, I think. You can gauge my computer's capabilities pretty much with just those things.

What do you use to stream?

Open Broadcasting Software. It's free and cool.

What's your audio set up?

I use an Audio Technica AT2020 condenser as a studio microphone hooked up to a Behringer XENYX Q502USB if I'm just playing games or for any guests on the stream. Usually I have a lavalier microphone on, an Audio Technica MT830cW attached to a Audio Technica ATW-T1001 System10 Wireless Body Pack Transmitter, transmitting to an Audio Technica ATW-R1100 System10 Receiver. It all sounds sexy.

When did you start playing the Sims?

I recall buying the first game when it came out, getting every expansion and stuff pack for that, and ever since then, owning every release for every version of the Sims for the PC since. so I guess since 2000, the initial release of the Sims.

Can I request a song?

It...kind of works? I use Ankhbot and it’s not the best at handling requests at the moment. Once I figure that out, sure, we can do that.

Can I be a moderator?

No.

Did you invent the Hunger Games for the Sims 4?

Yes I did. I created the Hunger Games in an attempt to weed out the population of my viewer sims town as best as I could. I adapted the rules from PopKell and her Sims 3 Hunger Games.

Essentially you’ll need an Arena; if you need one, you can search for me on the Gallery and I’ll have a few provided (OathD2C is my name on the Gallery, I’m fairly consistent like that about my username). Next, you’ll need 8 sims who all have one particular trait: Loves Outdoors. The other two traits and the aspiration don’t really matter, so long as they have this one. Next, you stick them in an Arena and...wait.

The idea of the Hunger Games is an attrition based, commentary heavy, specifically made for streaming method of gameplay. You don’t essentially do anything aside from streamlining the action and bringing back sims that teleport out by accident. Usually within 20 minutes to an hour and a half, you’ll have a handful of the original 8 dead to some form of attrition, whether it be actual hunger, embarrassment, fire, or the usual drowning. The idea is that you do not control any of them, but merely observe. Hell, you can take bets or even make it a drinking game.

What time is it there?

I don’t understand why this is a really heavily asked question. I live in Florida, which is Eastern Standard Time in the United States of America (EST), Greenwich Mean Time -5:00 (GMT), so that makes it something-o'clock. I get that you’re trying to gauge when and if the stream will end, but knowing what time it is where I am doesn’t really make a lick of difference. I start and end when I want, and I stream for as long as I want.

How long are you streaming for?

I seriously don’t understand questions like this. What’re you doing? Are you multitasking? did you put me on in the background while you’re doing dishes? Did you happen upon me, liked what you see, but have some engagement you’ve committed yourself to and are wondering if I’ll be on when you get back? I seriously stream of my own volition; simply put, the stream ends when it’s finished. I know that doesn’t tell you much, but I have ended a stream after 45 minutes and I have gone as long as 25 hours. I seriously don’t know how long I’m streaming for. Until I’m tired or done playing games for the night, truth be told.

When will the stream end?

When it’s finished.

What is HBnBM?

HBnBM, Headbang ‘n Buttonmash, was a editorial website dedicated to bringing you clever articles written by fans of metal music and video games. As of July 2015, the website has shifted focus to apparel and storefront operations, bringing you clever designs by metal and video game fans for metal and video game fans. When it was an editorial website, I acted as Editor-in-chief and wrote for the video game editorial column. I managed the HBnBM channel and Twitch representation for the site. Where did your username come from?

“Oath” is short for Oathbreaker. I was an avid fan and player of the Warcraft series, in particular, World of Warcraft, where I played, since 2005, a Warlock, and as of late 2006, a Blood Elf Warlock named Oathbreaker on Farstriders Realm. I was an English and linguistics major in college, so etymology was standard, and the word warlock is Gaelic for oath-breaker, so it’s a literally translated name. I’ve used the name in some form or fashion ever since.

“D2C” is an abbreviation for “Dressed to Cuddle.” It’s an exacerbated inside joke that slowly ended up being a personal label, clan tag, and website. It’s also from my WoW days where I met a majority of my friends in the game from a level 19 twink guild called Dressed to Kill. Twinking in WoW consisted of stopping XP, back in the day, mechanically by not doing quests, currently by turning off XP by speaking to an NPC in a major city, and playing content in such fashion. Between 2007 and 2009, twinking was big on our server and our group garnered a small reputation in Warsong Gulch, Capture the Flag. Our rivals were Farstriders Elite (FE), and we communicated with them on the WoW forums constantly, sometimes competitively, sometimes just talking shop, and sometimes it got ugly. On one occasion, four of us, Mordypants, Mooj, Elegia, and myself, were in a Battleground up against a full FE premade group of 10, and we got our asses handed to us, needless to say. Queue after queue, we kept running into them, and it got to the point where we “gave up.” Giving up, to us, consisted of us taking off our clothes and dancing in the flag room. When FE realized that we weren’t really playing, not putting up a fight, they decided to have some fun with it, because capping the flag, getting honor, all when you’re already top geared and honor-point capped, is boring. So some of them took off their clothes, some of them danced with us, and then finally, all of us, nearly 20 Alliance and Horde (I say nearly because there was a handful of PUGs, pick up players, actually trying to fight and not getting what was happening) buck-ass nude walking to the Alliance flag room to cap the last flag of the night. FE started a thread on the forums, titled “Dressed to Cuddle,” sharing the experience for the rest of the realm, and what was meant to be slightly insulting ended up sticking. We treated our guild like a family and we genuinely loved each like brothers and sisters, so being a bunch of carebears, we took it in stride. A few months later, I bought DressedtoCuddle.com and I started blogging about the random shit I did in WoW. I keep the abbreviation in my username for all things I do to remind me that it’s all just a game, in the end, despite how competitive things can get, don’t get heated, have fun, and always remember that your friends are on your team and, sometimes, on the other team.

Read the title! Seriously, the whole “I can’t see the title” is bullshit. EVERY PLATFORM shows you the title. I’m usually good about putting what game I’m playing, if it’s not the Sims 4, in the title. Seriously, you’re lazy. How do you end up in my stream?

How tall are you?

I actually get this question a lot. I seriously don’t know why. I’m 5'7".

Do you play Minecraft?

Yes, not on stream though. Minecraft culture makes me nervous. I like the Sims Community, I like the culture and people it fosters, and I’ve seen what Minecraft does for and to streamers. While I can objectively say, sure, it could be ridiculously successful for the stream, it makes me wonder at what cost. At the end of the day, I like to think I bring in quality viewers, and even though I’d love a subscriber button and pull in those numbers, I don’t want to do it in any other way but my own. But then the question comes up, will I EVER play Minecraft on the stream? I dunno. If I get a pang to play it, sure, let’s toss out the idea that maybe I will. One day. Probably not.
