Boiled Spinach / Large Serving (Cooking)
It's an ordinary dish, but the cost is cheap. There's a farmer in my neighborhood who runs a vending place, and sells spinach in big bundles for a dollar. The same amount at the supermarket would cost 4 dollars. It is a great addition to the household budget. Spinach at this time of year is very sweet and its taste is remarkable.

I learned from them how important it is to stay at least a month ahead on bills, I am used to always saving up in advance for my next month’s expenses even if it means that I have to make some financial adjustments for the time being.
Being a month ahead on bills simply means that you don’t have to wait for your next paycheck before you can pay for your groceries, gas, and utilities. These things are very important and can never wait, which is why you should always have an amount equivalent to your next month’s expenses already saved up in your bank account.

Where do you shop for your clothes? Are there any particular brands you look out for?
OH SO- this is kinda gonna be a frustrating answer.
i shop almost exclusively at this re-sale/second chance/excess store that puts together the unsold clothing from places like free-people and anthropology and the indy brands that they carry. It's INCREDIBLY local to my stretch of the woods- it's called retail 101 in naugatuck connecticut. i got a 350$ dress new with tags for 30$ and that was the most expensive clothing item listed in the store. it's definitely worthwhile to make the drive. it's about an hour for me, at least two if you're in nyc.
shopping there helps me feel better about getting clothes- because they're generally a lot bit better quality than like h and m or primark (which is what i can reasonably afford). it's also not directly supporting like- all those big businesses and keeps unsold clothes out of the landfill ect. It's helped me get some very very nice clothing for very cheap. it's a very overstimulating experience because it's basically just a football field sized warehouse filled with clothing.
i greatly recommend it if you're overly small or overly large because their greatest selection is in the Xs and Xl range like- I think i saw a size 14 jeans that were originally 400$ on sale for 14$ so- if you're more middle sized it definitely requires some hunting.
but tbh i also hit up the target clearance section for most of my jeans because they have really reasonable sales. i got my favorite pair of ripped jeans there for 6.50$. Target just for some reason happens to fit me pretty reliably- which is honestly rare because i have a 28 inch waist but a 40 inch booty.
#i love clothes and shopping because when i was a kid i never got new or nice things.#like we were a one new pair of shoes a year household#and i got like maybe 4 outfits at a time because that was all we could afford#and even then they were holey and didn't fit me right.#I give myself a budget cuz i know i spend too much on clothing generally#but it's very healing for me to express myself that way#because when i was growing up and until i was in college really- expressing myself that way wasn't really an option.#not to mention the other aspect of my life and needing to be able to run in whatever i was wearing#this is not new holly lore but old holly lore but yeah#being stalked really does do a number on you#its funny because as a result i sort of hate sneakers now like#this is just a me issue but i had to wear sneakers for safety every day#littterally every day#just incase my stalker was following me wherever i was and i needed to run#he hasn't chased me like that since like- the first week of the pandemic so <3#healing is still happening and i don't wear sneakers anymore#wouldn't be caught dead in em'#not that i haven't tried to get back into liking them and wearing them because some of them are comfortable

An insane thing I learned is that chicken used 2 b more expensive than beef or lamb - as recently as the 1970s (in the UK and Ireland)! Chicken was a luxury meat! b/c chickens eat grain while cattle & sheep eat grass. & 50 years ago grain was Very Costly.
& that's just flipped completely now! Red meat is high status & chicken is what you throw into any dish because it's the cheapest meat imaginable.
All these things we think are constants can change SO fast. And then we forget that they were ever different! I asked my aunt about Expensive Chicken Days and she was like 'huh. yeah. I forgot that.' I told my sister and she thought I was bullshitting her.

Started adding 40g extra protein to my diet a day and I've fallen asleep within an hour every night for almost a full week which I have never managed consistently my whole ass life
#being well rested makes me feel like I could fight god.#so much nutrition advice online is like 'it's basically impossible to not get enough protein so don't worry about it'#i think our household's combined issues with food texture (autism version)/allergies/eco concerns/budget make it pretty easy to miss.#and i think nutrition advice also assumes you're eating meat multiple meals a day. which uhhh I don't actually know many people who do that

I am beyond fucking around now, this ghoul is driving us all into the dirt so Shell can make £32bn of profit. I’ve been dealing with mould all fucking winter because I haven’t been able to have the heating up beyond the bare fucking minimum and I am actually now sick because it, I keep coughing and wheezing and it’s because there is a huge patch of damp right by where I sleep and work. Please can we stop arguing about dead fucking failures from the 20th century and can we Kill These Fuckers, they are waging war on us and we have to act like it. Everyone is on strike and they are settling with no-one in the public sector because they want these disputes to lose so they can break the unions. We need a general strike to force these fuckers out and then chase them from the very earth

Getting ever closer to radicalisation by trying to buy my cats a bed and realizing it would cost me nearly a hundred dollars to buy anything passing a decent standard of durability when I could just build a bed myself out of a wooden crate and some old pillows and fabric for $20 or less and my cats would be perfectly fucking happy
#wifey and I had to do the budgeting for the household shopping today and most of what we have to buy is so pricey now#we're trying to make as much of it as we can to cut down costs but my god#i can't handmake water fountains for the pets yet#and we don't yet have the resources to supply our own food ingredients#so we're just left being able to handmake furniture items and clothing#it's kinda brutal actually

i'm gonna be honest... i have been getting GENUINELY upset at grocery prices lately. like i go to a store and i feel CRUSHED checking out with 4 days worth of food for 2 people for $80. it just feel like so much money falling into a black hole to never be seen again.
i'm not that good at meal planning but convenience foods are starting to rival restaurant prices, so why buy a $6 hoagie of 5 inches of dry ass bread with a meager handful of meat and cheese when it's not even a remotely pleasurable experience OR cheap. At least give me one of those.
i've always spent a good amount more at the grocery store than a super strict budget might allow because i don't like cooking very much and i don't want to spend mental energy fussing around with exact deals, but at this point, i have to download their stupid app and clip their stupid digital coupons to try to squeeze a few more items into my budget, and it just sucks, and i literally know the companies are price gouging, and now i have to give up my data to try to stay afloat.
it's just one more thing in life that makes me feel like i'm trapped in a car with a broken parking brake that's slowly rolling backwards into a freakin lake. it's impacting my HARMLESS LITTLE HOBBY of TRYING WEIRD FOODS because. at this point. who can spend the money to potentially not like what you get
#and genuinely. don't be like 'wait you guys were buying name brand before' meme or whatever at me because i will start biting#the reason why i had a slightly extravagant grocery budget is that it was very frequently my ONLY extravagance#i don't own a home i barely own a car i've spent most of my adulthood living with relatives while working full or nearly full time#i don't go out drinking i barely have vices i sometimes go for weeks w/o buying anything other than groceries and necessities (esp lately)#and if i didn't have SOME outlet then i would snap and start making fuck-it purchases that would break my budget even worse#i'm not squeezing my budget because i have two kids like my mom did at this age. i am in a household of 2 adults only#this was already such a measly little comfort and losing it is genuinely making me upset on a weekly basis

what's your opinion on regulus/lily? i love them, but i honestly don't like the fics because they often make snape not a bad person, but i digress. i tend to read the fanfic because if you don't get pro-snape things, you don't get anything at all with that ship.
(or, what about, for fun, regulus/lily/evan)
i think regulus/lily can be very cool, AS LONG AS it doesn't turn into 'dramione but make it marauders.' (this is actually a caveat i have with a lot of marauders' era ships - that the potential is there, but the dynamic is often just like it is in a popular golden trio era ship. i'm down for a LOT of ships as long as the characters and dynamics don't feel recycled)
i think if i were to write a regulus/lily fic, it would probably be grounded in the war, because i feel like they need very high stakes to really push them together (see ttdl LMAO) - unless they're in the same house or year or something like that where they naturally run across each other a lot
like (and this is just off the top of my head - if someone wants to take this premise and run with it, go ahead! i already have far too many wips afjlshgskdf), this would be my go-to:
due to various scheduling issues, regulus and lily are assigned to do prefect rounds together (a combination that would normally NEVER fly because they try not to put muggleborns and People With Close Personal Ties To Death Eaters on patrol together)
lily goes into it hackles up, in the direct wake of sirius's disownment, expecting the worst from regulus black
regulus goes into it mildly curious about this lily evans who he has only ever heard about in the context of a) snape or b) potter, but honestly he's preoccupied with Sirius Angst and Family Pressure Angst and lots of things like that
slow burn the fuck out of it. regulus will probably be the one who has to actually break the ice because just b/c lily is no longer expecting him to blow up at her for blood purity reasons it doesn't mean she expects him to be worth befriending
bond over being younger siblings with very complicated relationships with their older siblings
become close friends (and here you get the joys of the secret relationship trope before a romantic relationship even develops, because War and also Sirius)
(side note - much character work for sirius would be necessary to make sure he's not just Regulus's Shouty Dramatic Brother)
and then i don't know where it would go from there but i do really like the idea of them working together in the war. either as an 'they're on their own side' thing or as a 'infiltrated both sides, using them for their own agenda' thing. like let them have a safehouse that lily has stocked with hand grenades, that's my vision
regulus/lily/evan would be A HOT MESS (in a fun way afjslghskdjf i just mean i'm laughing thinking about it) - triple the complicated relationships with older siblings. evan 'flirting is my middle name' rosier vs regulus 'pine until i either have to confess my undying love or fake my death' black vs lily 'historically people have just fallen all over themselves to ask me out and i don't actually know how to demonstrate interest in someone' evans. lots of lighthearted bickering. lily introducing regulus and evan to modern muggle technological marvels (disco ball). they have 'study dates' which are actually just lily and regulus studying and evan being distracting. they have a black and white cat named oreo (evan thinks this is the most original cat name ever). regulus is tormented constantly by lily and evan attempting to invent new household charms whenever the mood strikes. he and oreo often retreat to the library (spare bedroom full of books and one (1) disco ball) for safety. lily has a secret diary in which she keeps track of Definitely Totally Very Real Muggle Inventions that regulus and evan don't know she lied about yet. they have GREAT photo albums

Bleh…
#not feeling terrible…still tired#but mostly just…disappointed I guess#cause last year the family did drawing names for Christmas presents#and I thought we were gonna talk about it first before deciding what to do this year#but I doesn��t seem to be the case#I understand that it can help with budget and stuff#but it kind of makes me not as excited for Christmas by…a lot#I think it’s the gifts love language in me…#it just doesn’t feel….exciting when you might only get gifts from two people#plus there is the weirdness of people living in the same household usually giving gifts to the other#I don’t know it just feels unequal or weird#but unfortunately I don’t have a solution#so I’ll probably just have to deal with it even if it kind of makes me really sad…#*adds this to the list of things I could talk to my counselor about*#aceo rambles
